Super Punch-Out!!   Totts
If any game deserves rave reviws then it is this one, this is possibly one of the finest boxing games on the SNES, if not ever. Its early predecessor on the NES is no slouch either and is in itself one of the finest games of its generation, an instant classic with mass appeal. The number of clones this game spawned is immence, but if its a fantasitc fun filled virtual punch up you are after then this game certainly dissapoint. For further evidence, not that you will need it, just refer yourselves to the countless times Bart can be seening ‘bashing’ his dad Homer on their home console verion of boxing which bears an uncanny resembalance to the NES version, coicidence? I think not…..
It is, however, with the SNES version, however, that this game really comes of age. From the start you are just literally itching to get your gloves on and start slugging.
This is a one player game where you get to test your boxing prowess against a number of fun and captivating opponents, it will take some skill to beat all 16, but what a thrilling ride you are in for.
Masters of this game will know that there is a distinct learning curve to this game, you have to like a real boxer would, study your opponent and look for their weak spots and exploit them, you can of course ‘cheat’, and there are countless guides you can get that provide you with the correct formula to beat each opponent, nearly blow by blow in some cases, but for me just playing the game in such a technical no frills way just reduces its appeal. This is one tough game no matter which way oyu look at it and it will take time to learn all the sequences required to beat it.
Of course it would have been nice to have had a two player mode where one could have a ‘bash’ wiht their friends mano a mano style, but given the first person ‘behind the back’ perspective of the game, I don’t think the programmers thought it possible, less they split the screen and you each gained a first person perspective, which in hindsight might have been a nice feature and added to the longetivity of the game. Although it does possess a time attack mode that records the fatest knockouts for each opponent which gives the game more deapth in addition to its rapidly increasing level of difficulty.
The grapghics are stimulating, using a good spread of the SNES colours and shading, including the use of tranparancy, being both bright and captivating. The sound is superb, with a pleasing use of a synthesized voice to act as compare to your bouts.
I still find myself drawn to this game again and again, despite my knowlede of how to beat each opponent, this is because you have to think and look for the opportunities to beat them, this makes you have to think and have gret timing, rather than bash at the keys mercillesly. Even when you have mastered this game you will need rapid repsonses each time to beat it again.
Overall this game, therefore, makes a sincere attempt to take home console boxing to the next level, a carnival thrill ride of a game that certainly deserves its place in the collection of all SNES owners and certainly ones who like sports and fighting games. It has a pleasing level of difficulty and its ‘time attack’mode which distinclty adds to its replayability.
Arguable you could say on nostalgia alone, the NES version is ‘better’, and had a much larger influence and audience too for that matter, but this game should not be ignored for taking the original to the next level, and that is why you should play this version and give it a chance to gain its place in retro-game history, for one reason alone, despite all the technological innovations of current games and the coming of 3d, the transparency aspect of the graphics still sends shivers up and down my spine and due to the increased depth and perspective of this game and varied music, this game is certainly one of the best.

Super Punch Out   Saunter77
A delightful boxing experience, Super Punch Out is a fine example of the boxing genre. Sporting lovely graphics and fine playability, Super Punch Out is, after two decades, still one of the best examples out there. Each opponent comes with their own set moves, which must be mastered before progressing. Even after learning your opponents moves, co-ordinating your reactions to actually dodge them in the heat of a fight is where the skill lies. After the game is completed, one is still prone to lose to any of the better opponents if not enough concentration is applied.
Three tiers are available to work through, the Minor, Major and World divisions. Three opponents and the Champion await you. The game lacks some depth insomuch as there is not a Career Mode to speak of, which would've added some more layers to the game. However, it certainly doesn't stop ones enjoyment. The game excels in its use of viewpoint, which is where other games struggle, in my opinion.
As a side note, the use of the counter punch, although sometimes difficult, is where the speed knock outs are achieved. I have knocked out many opponents inside thirty seconds or less (Gabby Jay is possible to KO in 9 seconds), and I believe there is a way to complete the game beating every opponent inside thirty seconds, using the counter punch and power punches.
Overall, one of my favourite snes games, and a more satisfying boxing experience will not be found elsewhere.

A Sports Game That Even Haters of Sports Games Will Love   name543
I was seriously surprised when I played this game. I'm not a fan of sports games at all. Though from all the great comments I've heard about Punch Out, I decided to try it. I'm very glad I finally took the chance to play this game. Super Punch Out proved to take far more strategy and quick thinking than I expected, being very much a game of anticipation and reaction to the opponent's moves.
Graphics: There's not much to complain about with the graphics here. Which isn't surprising, seeing the lack of actual areas that needed to be made. All that needed to be modeled was the ring, crowd, and competitors. But it still looks like a great game. Each fighter is well made, having enough detail to enjoy fighting them. The colors are also vibrant and nice to look at. So you won't be bored by the look of the game during a match. It helps that so many of your opponents are such strange looking characters. Even a clown shows up to battle you at one point, giving many distinct visuals for you to look at while you pound your opponents face in. The graphics can get kind of silly at points, especially when you stun an opponent. The only problem I have is that most of the fighters in the game are palette swaps of other fighters. But this doesn't even matter much, as the palette swaps look different enough to be identifiable.
Sound: The sound of Super Punch Out is another place where it rates high. The music that plays during matches is good for getting you into the spirit for the fight that's happening. Each punch also sounds like it has impact, giving you audio confirmation that hitting your opponent in the face is actually doing something to them. The voice for the announcer during the battle is also pretty decent for an SNES game. While it's not exactly amazing voice acting, it's nice to be able to understand what he's saying. Seeing how many old games with voice acting proved to be hard to understand. The sound is an overall plus, and really got me in the mood for every fight with the game's music.
Addictiveness: I found myself very addicted to this game. Each time you beat a circuit, it keeps track of your scores on how quickly you beat each fighter and your score for doing it. Obviously you'll want to keep going back to beat your old scores. This proves especially true once you've gotten used to the game and improved a lot. Fighters who once gave you trouble will be easily taken care of, giving you more points and a shorter time for winning the match. This gives reason for coming back and fighting again. Though, the largest reason for playing fights again is to unlock a special reward for doing good enough in every match. If you manage to get through every circuit without losing a fight, you unlock the real final circuit. This will really test your skills, and most likely take a while for you to beat.
Story: I'm going to admit, the story in this game is nothing to write home about. Really, there isn't much story at all. Mostly it's just your character rising through the ranks to become the boxing champion. Though you'll fight a lot of very interesting characters along the way, the story doesn't really change or become anything more. I did at least give the story a 3 though. Because, while it's not much of a real story, it does it's job to get you playing. Plus, with a simple story like this, at least you won't run into plot hole after plot hole like in some games.
Depth: Unfortunately, there's not much depth to Super Punch Out when it comes to variety and all. The game has a set of predetermined fights and you go through each of them. Sure there are a lot of different ways to fight each opponent, and you need to mix up your fighting  styles for different opponents. But when it comes to lasting a long time with a bunch of different content, Super Punch out falls a bit in the middle. It gives enough flexibility in the controls to fight in all different ways, but it also doesn't have much to do outside of the main fights beside a time attack mode.
Difficulty: The difficulty is a huge part of the experience of this game. Rest assured, you will be beat up, many, many times. But the point of the game is to overcome how difficult the opponents are. Most of the game's fighters hit much harder than you. They all seem to be able to beat you easily the moment you make a mistake. The important part is that you can do the same thing. The main draw of this game is how you have to watch your opponent. Every single move they do is telegraphed in it's own way. You need to watch how your opponent fights and learn when they'll use certain moves. Once you know how to dodge or block an opponent's attacks, it's much easier to start returning the punches and actually do some damage in return. Super Punch out will definitely be a difficult game, but not for the wrong reasons. The controls are simple and easy to learn, plus there is little to no lag. So if you do lose a match, it's not the game's fault. It's because you simply need more practice in how to dodge or block specific attacks. Or how to capitalize on the opportunities you do have.
Final Thoughts: This game was much better than I had expected it to be. I expected it to be another boxing game without much actual fun to the experience. Though I was shown wrong in the first few fights. The cartoonish art style and fun boxing kept me entertained the whole time, even when the difficulty had me wondering how I was supposed to beat the current boxer. This is a very fun game that I would highly recommend. Even if you're not a fan of sports games, you might have a great time while you play.

When the bell rings, come out swinging!   BlastOffMoony
Growing up I never got the chance to play this game, not because I didn't have the money for it. I got plenty of money for my B-day and other occasions. I didn't get to play it because back then I saw it and said "Sports game, not interested." It wouldn't be until many years later that I learned sports games could be more then stat watching and position making. (Looking at you Madden.) So I tried out 'fun' sports games such as Punch out, the Mario sports series and etc. Now I'm the kind of guy that isn't normally into sports but when there 'fun' I can enjoy them such is the case with Super Punch out. This game is very addictive for someone such as me, I love to find out the tactics to each boxer and I love how unique there personalities are such as the case with, bear hugger for example. A big burly lumberjack type that you can't hurt by hitting his stomach. In closing, this game is very appealing even to the non sports lovers such as myself.

a Mighty Knockout   SuperCrash64
Introduction:
A review by Sc64.
Here we have Super Punch out, For the super Nes.  A game I've spent weeks on end.Playing, but I haven't exactly finished it yet.  This a fine Boxing game, and totally one of the best out there. The only strange part is that it shares a uncanny Reference to the original nes game, when it's yet very different.  It seems and feels More based on the Arcade cabinets of Punch out more then anything. as far as I can "Tm"  See it. With that said it's still a fun game nontheless. Let's get started on the review.
Graphics 9
(likes:
There was So much difference between this and it's original nes game. The colorful characters, have more of a cartoonist Style added to them, and instead of the light and brown skinned Little mac. You have this newcomer in town. Still The visuals look pretty good for this type of gem. The colors are very vibrant, and Each of the characters were designed and remade Nicely. Like Super Macho Man. His Nes counterpart. Was good, but he looks like a cool person.  His design choice in Super punch out was excellent. He now has a tan. which makes his coolness appear and feel more natural.  Each characters has different stances and Designs, which makes the game even more appealing.
(Dislikes:
Like the original Nes game. There were Sprite swaps used for some characters. Like Bear hugger. He was used as a sprite swap for Mad clown.  This does kind of bother me in someways, that I just can't over look it.
Sound:9
(Likes:
There are various Grunts and Voice samples added to each character, Unlike the Nes game, were it just had little squeak sounds for each sound effect.
The Music is particulary different, but It's actually not that bad. It feels and give's me a good edge and makes everything exciting for me when I play through this game.
(Dislikes:
Like in the graphics of this game. there were sprite swaps. There are also many reused voice overs for each character. Like ball bull and Mr sandman. again this makes the game less appealing.
So in other words: Yeah a bit of swapping for both the graphics and sound.
Addictiveness depth and difficulty: 10
The game had me addicted for weeks, were I would Keep on playing it day after day. and I'm still trying to beat it and finish it.
Now as for the depth section: there are three Main Circuit's. That being: Minor, Major, and World Circuit.  There are plenty of characters within this game. You will have to learn what they'll have planned to defeat you. in order to beat them. It took me weeks to get to get to the world circuit. so that's already an example of how big this game is.
There are a matter of easy foes, and hard foes.
Easy foes like Gabby jay, Bear Hugger.  Hard foes Like Mad clown, and Super Macho man.  This game get's easier and harder later on. I'm still trying to pass through The special circuit within this game.
Story: N/A I didn't find no plot in the game, other then to win championships.
Overall Super Punch out is a pretty good Snes game.

Let's get it to boxing!   MyHelmetHazS.
Super Punch Out!!! We meet again.
MyHelmet Here, with a new review about this Kick-ass game!
(This  uses to be a short-like review,If you have suggestions for the next review,Add a comment!)

                                                                                               Gameplay
The gameplay is actually good for me,but you need to Practice till you can beat Nick Bruiser or other people. The game offers Few moves to use while in a fight:Left,Right,Bodyblow, uppercut,Super Punch and Other. I just finished the major circuit, now I am to the world circuit. For some people,it takes a while to beat, including ME and Newcomers. I might say the gameplay gets a 7/10.

                                                                                                 Graphics
The game should NOT be judged by the Graphics,I have no problem with the graphics, they're actually good and enjoyable for classic gamers, like how actually WE are. And will be forever. I  will give the Graphics a 7...
                                                                                                Sound
The Sound...We meet again. The sound is good,I played it with Razer headphones, and it sounds good, and enjoyable, the punches are clearly to hear, except for some people, the super punch...Including Me. Sound gets a 10.
                                                                                                  Story
The story is about Blond Little Mac from other games(Not blond in other,NINTENDO Decided his hair colour)Where he wants to be a champion. So he trains,as shown in the cutscene of the boot, after the Nintendo logo. Story gets a silly 6.
                                                                                                Depth
Depth.... I can't say you something good, but the game takes a while to beat for some people that Are bad at boxing or video games(Newcomers).Depth gets a 6.
                                                                                              Difficulty
Difficulty is kinda a Medium game or something. By me,I give it a 4 for few reasons that I can NOT tell.

                                                                                                  Disappoints
I dislike at his game Aran Ryan's grab n take health ability, because it's so Annoying!I can't even beat Aran Ryan at All. Other thing is Aran Ryan's rush,he is that fast I cant even press up,and leave it,for few seconds. Other thing is Dragon Chan's Karate Thing where he gets on the boxing rope, and does that karate kick.My cousin fell for that!

                                                                                             OVERALL RATING
Here comes the sad end...Where we will meet in other review, but it's not over! The game gets a 9.5 from me,I would play this game many MANY MANY TIMES
"Piece of Cake!Right On!" -Blond Little Mac
"See you Next time!" -Mario

Punch-Out moves to the SNES   tdw2000
Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES is a great game. It's one example of a game that you can just pick up and play. No introduction, you're just plopped right into the game. And what a game it is. The graphics are an improvement from Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! and are more detailed. There are still palette swaps, but each character has a unique design to them that sets them apart. As for the music, it's not as memorable as Punch Out on NES, but it has some points going for it, such as each circuit having a different theme. The game's addictiveness is limited by the fact that once you beat all the circuits, there's nothing much else to do except beat up boxers that you've already beaten again to try to get a better time or score. There isn't a real story going, as far as I know. The game won't take a long time to beat if you know how to beat each opponent, but it can take some time to get used to their tendencies if you're a newcomer. As for the difficulty, like I said, it's easy if you know what to do, but it can be challenging on your first try.

SUPER PUNCH OUT   rebelyell
Get ready to step in to the ring with some cheating boxers, .Tha'ts right you'll have balls thrown at you, hair in your face and even spit. This game well have you coming back over an over to learn the movies of the monsters your going to fight. This is a great second punch out just as good as the first might even be better. I found my self getting mad at the game even yelling you cheaters, but I keep going back to it. This is a game your going to play until you beat it. The story is simple win fights be the champ. Easy right? Wrong!!! The other guys will stop at nothing to make sure you lose. Difficulty it get harder as you go as in most games. Addictiveness is worse then crack. As for the sound when you get hit you hear it bad. So get ready for a great day of super Nintendo.

This Game ROCKS!!   austinmccrea123
In this review I want to break down the three leagues and give a nice overall explanation of how good this game is.
Minor Circuit:
Going through the first four competitors are going to teach you the basics,  practicing your left and right dodging, blocking, and ducking.
Each opponent you face has particular weaknesses and combos that will be implemented it the next two leagues.
if its your first time playing you're going to want to really absorb / remember the patterns because they will reappear later in the game
Gabby Jay is as simple as it gets.. No difficult combos, barely blocks, and is intended to give you an easy win.
Bear Huger can only be hurt with punches to the face, he has one strong attack and some basic jab / hook combos
if you're a newcomer this guy might give you a hard time.
Piston Hurricane is where things start to get tricky. This guy has some more complex combos and a couple of dangerous power strikes.
his most annoying combo is his fast jab combo. Count his strikes and remember his patterns and you will make easy work of him.
Bald Bull is your first real challenge, once you beat this buy you got the minor circuit down. Watching out for his power strikes and his
ability to absorb damage. Play it safe and try to build up your power bar. I good tip is to throw random body shots every now and again to
keep him from throwing non stop hooks and jabs.  chances are you might get a good stun in so you can implement some serious damage.
Major Circuit:
The major circuit is definitely the moderate difficulty. This is where you will need to learn some more advanced patterns in order to out smart your opponents. Try not to be intimidated by these four opponents. Most of them have some flashy and annoying power strikes. Patience is definitely the key until you memorize all of the patterns
Bob Charley is a pain in the ass as first.  just jab at his face or body when he isn't blocking. Look for your openings and capitalise on them.
If you play defense to much he will use his windmill uppercut to knock you out over and over again, also when he gets knocked down once or twice he start to "shuck and jive" .  Block and dodge his strong shots and mix it some jabs. Should be pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Dragon Chan is a butt head to say the least. This guy loves to kick and counter punch. His mega kick from the top turnbuckle will drain your entire health bar! So watch out! You have to get quick with your dodging and punching at this point in the game if you want to move on.
Masked Muscle , I personally struggled with this character for a long time. He is a no good cheater! A good cheater too.
watch out for him spitting in your eyes, it renders you completely vulnerable to attacks.  His most annoying power strike is his Head but which his you twice. For this you gotta dodge left or right and throw a body shot to counter him and get some nice shots in.
Pro tip, body shots do more damage to this guy !
Mr. Sandman is gonna be hard.  This guy is not joke and can cause some serious frustration. My only advice is to take your time and study his combos and memorize how to dodge his power attacks. By the way when he gets knocked down twice he becomes much more dangerous.  Good luck!
World Circuit:
Aran Ryan is gonna start you off with a challenge right off the bat. This is where you memory of previous opponents comes into play.  By this point you should have the skill required to beat him. All you gotta do is study his attacks and practice  if you keep losing to him.  the tricky part is his fast jab combos, just block low then high a few times and dodge to the side when he goes for his uppercut. He also likes to grab you when you super punch him, if you time it right you can counter punch and stun him before he grabs you.
Heike Kagero is a real jerk. This long haired weirdo is gonna drive you nuts. Hes got some tricky combos and about three strong attack combos. His hair whip is the strongest combo, you gotta dodge left for the first attack and duck for the second attack then counter him quickly to put an end to the combo. He also has a mirror image attack. If you get the timing down you can hit him with a body shot and lay into him with a couple jabs.
Mad Clown is very similar to bear huger. Only face shots hurt him but this guy is much better at striking.
he as a serious deak out attack that will trick you over and over again, timing your counter just right with get you through this.
he also has an attack combo where he throws balls at you. Try to dodge his attacks three times in a row and then duck his last attack.
Super Macho Man is going to be a really hard opponent. He constantly moves around and has an arsenal of attacks meant to confuse you. Taking the time to remember his combos is going to take a while, even if you get really good. All I can really say is good luck on this one.
My Overall Review
Just so you know there is a forth league but I'd rather leave that to you. The final league is bonkers.
Just keep trying and you'll get it. If you can beat the first three circuits you should have the knowledge and skill needed to beat it.
Anyways, I love this game.  I got hopelessly addicted and am attempting to break speed run records.
I just really enjoy the challenge of classic games like this.  I really hate when a game is too easy.
It would be awesome to get a hard copy of this game to add to my collection.
I gave this game a 9.2 rating cuz lets face it, it's not perfect. But its close enough.
Thank you for reading my review / walk through advice thread. Good luck and have fun !

An awesome sequel to an awesome NES game.I never get tired of it.

This game has a severe learning curve to it. The first time you fight a boxer you rage so hard. Then once you beat him once or twice you wonder how people can have trouble with them.

I punched him right in the gut, and he went "BONK!"

Super macho Man is my arch nemesis. Every time I think I got him figured out, he ends up beating me to a bloody stump lol. I'll get him next time

You gotta hit him in the face to beat bear hugger, then dodge his double fisted head pound.
Tranzia 03-18-14 - 08:51 AM
I love Aran Ryan, but I can't even get past Bear Hugger... Also, what even is he doing with his tongue when I hit his belly...?

This game would make an epic highscore competition. It's so tricky to max out the points.
mikey2win 07-14-13 - 02:17 PM
I did with my original system about 10 years ago. Actually except for Mad clown and bear hugger you can beat all of them in under 20 seconds
GOLDMACNCHEEZ 05-21-13 - 10:21 PM
I beat everyone here now and no one should feel bad when losing to Aran Ryan I have beat the game about 20 times and I still have trouble with him.
GOLDMACNCHEEZ 05-21-13 - 06:45 AM
Has anyone else managed to beat everyone in under a minute?
shanezer 03-05-13 - 09:45 PM
