PacmanandMariofan's Review of Super Mushroom for the NES!Hello! Here is my review of Super Mushroom for the NES. Super Mushroom is a hack of Super Mario Bros. that is very hard. I don't even know if level 2 is possible. I will tell you about it in the addictiveness, depth, and difficulty categories.
Graphics: 9
This game has excellent graphics. I didn't rate it a 10 because of the fact that all enemies are re-textured to be colored circles. Other than those, the graphics are perfect. Everything was either re-textured or shaded in differently. Here are a few examples of how great the graphics are:
The new main character, the mushroom, is the best and most detailed new sprite in my opinion.
The text at the top of the screen was changed to be a bold light blue and white color.
The title screen was completely re-made to show a new logo without the brown box behind it and to not show the 1-player and 2-player game options which got
replaced by the words "PUSH START!"
Sound: 8
The sound is really good too. All of the music is brand-new but not all of it sounds very good which is why I didn't rate it higher and there's a new sound effect for jumping but it only plays sometimes which is weird.
Addictiveness: 3
I am definitely not playing this game again because I can't even get past the second level. The first level was great and the first part of the second level was too, but the underground section of the second level I find to be impossible. I'll talk more about that in the difficulty category.
Story: 0
I didn't know the story since I couldn't beat the game but I found a video for it and I'm very disappointed that there isn't really a story to this game. I said 0 here but I had to rate it a 1 for the actual category rating because I had to re-do the categories since I found a video for this game and the site won't let me pick 0 for the rating since I already chose another number :(

Like I said before, I can't beat this game. I've tried every method I could to beat that terrible underground area of 1-2. I used savestates on every method but I just can't do it. I found a video for this game and I found out it has 4 worlds and 3 levels in each world. That's not very much compared to the original Super Mario Bros. with 8 worlds and 4 levels per world.
Difficulty: 9
This game is super hard because level 1-2 is impossible for me and there are no power-ups. 1-1 was pretty easy for me, though. The power-ups got
replaced by those red circle enemies.
Level 1-2's underground area is only area that doesn't require any scrolling. The only objects there are blocks, a question mark block, and a pipe. Now I will explain the methods I used to try to beat that underground area of 1-2.
For the first method, I did a savestate and then jumped rapidly to the question mark block and then I jumped off the question mark block rapidly to try to make it to the pipe. I had to rapidly jump to and from the question block because if I didn't do that, I wouldn't jump very far and I would die. When I did do that rapid running and jumping method, I'd hit the wall below the pipe and die. If the pipe was any lower I could probably make the jump but I couldn't with the pipe so high up.
The second method isn't so complicated. For the second method, I tried going up to the wall under the pipe and jumping off of it to get an extra boost so I could make it up to the pipe. I tried so many times but each time I hit the wall and died.
I found a video for this hack and the player had to use cheat codes to beat the levels. I can't find any other videos for this hack.
Overall: 7
This game is pretty good. If only the creator of this game didn't make the underground area of 1-2 so unfair, I would rate this game higher. You should try this game only if you're good at the wall jumping glitch in the original Super Mario Bros. I had fun until that underground area of 1-2.
I hope you liked this review! I would appreciate some feedback!
