Super Mario Land 2 Review   Zircron Swift

Super Mario Land 2 offers a wide range of odd and new features in a Mario game that were never seen again….or at least until say 15 years later with  some where Super Mario Galaxy came out. Once again, this was one of the first games I played, and I loved it. It just seemed so….weird yet great at the time. So let’s look into it.

The story is that as you return from saving Daisy form that….thing, some menace has taken over your castle. I didn’t realise Mario had a castle….This foe is Wario, his first appearance. No doubt he dresses like you to make things easier for himself. He has sealed the front door, making it impossible to make it back to your castle….unless you get the six golden coins from around the land to place in those holes. It sounds like this is turning into a Zelda game. So how does this work out? You own a castle on an island. Does that make you king of this island? In which is everyone there your subject? I don’t know, he’s not wearing a crown, so maybe….*shakes head and screws up paper into a ball and throws it over shoulders.* Now where was I…? Oh yeah, gets golden coins, break into castle, defeat Wario. Simple.

You travel around the island in an overhead view, in which you van travel to one of six sections, ranging greatly with the themes, such as a space one, a haunted one, an underwater one, and even a house one….where you are tiny! That blew my mind when I shrank at the door step. It has to be one of the most remoral moments in Mario history for me. Each section has a certain amount of levels in, and a boss at the end of each section. Victory will earn you a golden coin with the symbol of the section you were in. I suppose they did that so they knew were the coin was meant to go  -.-   . At the end of every level, you have to ring a bell.....What are you looking at me for? In the original Super Mario Bros. game for the NES you ended a level by jumping on a flag. You save all the coins you gained from the level. This can be used at a slot machine to gain power-ups (just the usual fire flower and mushroom) or lives, if you’re lucky. If your unlucky, you’ll lose some coins.

This game has a lot of hidden secrets. In almost every section, there is a level which has a second end to it. This can either lead to a shortcut to the boss room, or to an entirely new section. Completing these will not give golden coins, just some more percentage to your total game. I was thrilled when I found different levels in the space section, and that I found hidden blocks in the house section. The sound isn’t that bad. But it’s not the best. I remember the first level music being good, but I can’t really remember how it goes. The boss music was very much like the boss music from Wario Land 2. The music fitted the level well to some degree, but the better music being at the end of the game. The graphics were pretty good. Mario was way more detailed in this game than the first Super Mario Land. He was detailed much like Mario Bros 2 and 3. I always liked the enemies in this game. From the creepy pumpkins from the haunted section to the giant ants in the house section, there were very amusing and very well done for a Game Boy game. The game play is pretty good. The first game was a little slippery, and this game seemed to have tightened that bolt just a little bit to make it have the fine line of a little slippery to realistic movement. It’s a little change, but makes a great difference. Sometimes, the layout of the game makes it hard to know where to go next. I find myself at least twice having to run back and forth and then realise I have gone the wrong way. Now, it might not be a problem, but back then...I had pretty much no sense of direction on this game, well, maybe just a little.

The game isn't that hard. Even back then, I found only jumps to be a concern. The really hard part of the game is the last boss and finding all those little secrets for more levels, in which I needed a walk through to find most of them. The space and unwater levels are possibly the hardest, but maybe that's because it had different elements, such as low gravity or....water. The layout of each level was perfect for the section you were in. They hit it band on the nail with this one. My favorite being the house ones, although the haunted one was great as well, with it's fire and spooky pumpkins. It was creepy, but not shockingly scarry like those zombies from Wario Land 3!

Overall, I give it a 7.9/10      This game is a classic, with it’s odd world and sudden change of motivation from the first game to the second. One thing they did well, and I mean really, really, well is the last boss. It’s hard, it’s epic, the music suits it perfectly, and even back then when I was little, as I fought him, that boss battles should be like this, or at the very least have a few more of them like it. Having different stages in different parts of the castle, in which you can die at any time was just....wow. It's graphics being a high point of the game, giving a friendly charm, even in the mist of danger. Along with some decent music and fluid game play, it makes a very enjoyable game to play. It just has to be one of the must-play games in the Mario series, so go ahead and play it!

Most Memorable Game for the Original Gameboy   luigi25

Super Mario Land 2 was released near the end of 1992. The game introduced a very memorable Nintendo character called Wario who would go on to have his own series of games. In this game, Wario is the villain who has hypnotized the people of Mario Land and taken over Mario's castle. Super Mario Land 2 also features an overworld map similar in layout to that of Super Mario World. It is patterned very much after Super Mario World in terms of gameplay and level design. Although, I played Super Mario Land 2 before I got to play Super Mario World. I remember watching the SMW cartoons that summer but didn't play the game until the end of that year when I got it for Christmas.

With Super Mario Land 2, I got it for my 10th birthday in mid June of 1993. I played it regularly throughout that summer, and this game became a big part of my childhood. It was at a time when I was really into video games mainly Mario games, but I was also starting to get interested in the Sonic trilogy as well. I hated how there were never any cartoons based off the Mario games for the Gameboy. Wario would have been a really cool character if he had been animated. He was Mario's evil counterpart, so would Tatanga, Princess Daisy, and Captain Syrup. Sadly, the Super Mario Land/Wario Land series never got its own cartoon. However, Super Mario Land 2 is still an awesome game.

Graphics 9/10: The backgrounds and sprites of Super Mario Land 2 have a lot of detail to them. The only thing this game lacks is color. If it weren't for that, this game would be a perfect 10. SML2 looks a lot like SMW, and this is especially true for Mario. He basically has the same sprite. Kirby's Dreamland started a revolution with its impressive sprites and graphics. Super Mario Land 2 borrows a lot from that game, so it isn't the best looking game on the Gameboy. I do consider both games to be equal in quality, and they look amazing when you consider the hardware Nintendo had to work with.

Music 9/10: Most of the songs in Super Mario Land 2 sound amazing, but there are one or two exceptions. The game contains a lot of tracks, but this variety is what hurts it more than it helps it. Anytime you have a large selection of tracks, some of them aren't going to be that good. For the most part SML2 delivers, but there are a couple of songs that sound flat. The theme for Wario's castle is my favorite, and I also like the theme for the boss level in the Space Zone. The first level has great music, and just like with the first SML, the music is still very upbeat and catchy.

Gameplay 10/10: The second Super Mario Land game has lots of playability and challenge to it that make it a very great game to play. Just like with any other Mario game, the goal is to get to the end without running out of time. In this game, there are items like the Mushroom, Fire Flower, and Carrot that helps Mario get through these levels. The Carrot gives Mario bunny ears, and he can use the bunny ears to float over areas in the levels by repeatedly pressing the A button. This comes in useful on parts where large gaps have to be crossed. Bunny Mario is similar to what Raccoon Mario and Cape Mario were in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. There isn't that much of an item selection in this game either, but there is some emphasis put on exploration with the level design.

Super Mario Land 2 contains 6 different areas called zones that can be played in any order. At the end of each zone is a boss, and after Mario defeats one of the bosses, he gets a golden coin. After collecting all 6, he unlocks his castle which has been taken over by his evil doppelganger named Wario. I like how every area of this game has their own theme, boss, and overworld map. I liked how Nintendo put Mario into outer space in this game. There is no gravity on this section!

Not only that, there are several secret exits to explore in this game as well. Although, SML2 doesn't contain as many as it did in SMW. There is exploration with the levels in this game but not much. For the most part, it's the variety and creativity of the game that players will enjoy. There is no Special World or Star World in this game. Super Mario Land 2 only contains about one secret exit per zone, and some zones don't have any secret exits at all.

The bosses are all fun to fight, and you have to figure out their pattern in order to defeat them. The overworld maps are also a nice addition to the 6 areas of Mario Land. Each map is part of the bigger picture which is Mario Land, and it has been taken over by Wario. "He has transformed it into his own private playground" to quote what was written about this game in the instruction manual. Just like with all the Mario and Sonic games, it is mostly the creativity of the level design that makes me want to play it, and there is some exploration to the game as well.

Story 10/10: While Mario was away in Sarasaland saving Princess Daisy from the mysterious spaceman Tatanga, his childhood rival Wario has taken over Mario Land and placed its inhabitants under his spell. Wario has also transformed Mario's castle into his own, and Mario must collect the 6 Golden Coins needed to unlock the castle gate so he can fight Wario. The character of Wario was well thought out by Nintendo. He was an antagonist in this game who was jealous of Mario's fame and fortune. Wario wanted a castle of his own and stole Mario's. It was up to Mario to boot him out of his home and restore peace to his kingdom called Mario Land.

The storyline of SML2 introduced a new character who would go on to have his own game series, but this is where he got his start. Mario has to restore peace to his kingdom and kick Wario out of his castle. If it weren't for this game, there would be no Wario Land games. Wario would become the anti-hero in that series, and it is interesting to see how he got to that point. He just wanted a castle of his own and was tired of Mario getting all the fame and fortune. All Wario wanted was some for himself, but unfortunately, he fails in this game.

Content 9/10: Super Mario Land 2 is divided up into 6 different zones: the Tree Zone, Space Zone, Macro Zone, Pumpkin Zone, Mario Zone, and Turtle Zone. The overworld map is similar to that of Super Mario World. To start with, you have a map of Mario Land that shows all the 6 zones of the game along with Mario's castle in the center. This was similar to Dinosaur Land with Bowser's world also in the center. Mario travels along a path that leads to each of the 6 areas, and when he enters one of these areas the map changes to another map of the zone in which he entered. Each zone has its own theme. The Space Zone was something totally different from any other Mario game at that time. Mario put on a spacesuit and floated through the air by pressing the A button. In all, the game takes between 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours to finish, so it is kind of a lengthy game.

Difficulty 5/10: Overall, the difficulty of Super Mario Land 2 isn't that bad. I don't think it is a hard game until you get to the castle, but you can go back to levels you have already played (like in SMW), grab the carrot, and fly over the lava pits of this level. The Carrot power-up makes it easier and is what takes some of the difficulty. Again, you can use it to float over entire levels without having to get a running start like with the Super Leaf of SMB3 and Cape of SMW. If you Game Over you can continue, but you have to fight the bosses again in order to get back the Golden Coins. Like before, as in SMW, you can go back to levels and power-up infinitely for the more difficult ones.

There are a few parts of the game that are hard, but with the infinite power-up system, it doesn't become too hard. The bosses do take some time to get used to especially the 3 pigs in the Mario Zone. Mario's castle is the hardest stage and did give me some trouble until I figured out you could go back to stages and get items. Players can earn a lot of extra lives, so this is a game with a difficulty that is pretty well balanced. It is by no means easy and took me almost all summer to beat when I was a kid. Although, it is not hard either.

Overall 9.4/10: Super Mario Land 2 is a very good game for the Gameboy. The graphics and soundtrack are fantastic. The level design and gameplay does leave a little to be desired but very little. For the most part, the stages and zones are very creative with their themes and bosses. I didn't like how there wasn't that much exploration or item selection, but it still gets the job done. The storyline was really what stood out to me and went along with the game's design which made sense and made up for some of the design flaws. It also offers plenty of content for players and has the right amount of difficulty. Super Mario Land 2 would be the last Gameboy title with Mario as the main protagonist. Enter the anti-hero of Nintendo, Wario!!

good game for the GB   TheeDragoniteMa..
i found this game very fun because there are many cool things about this game. to get to the final boss you have to get the 6 coins which isnt so hard. with the coins you can actually buy things like 1 ups and power ups to use and that helps a lot when you are prepearing to face a boss. in one of the levels there is a bubble and you can just ride it the whole way through the level easily.
i think the only exclusive power up in this game is the bunny power up which allows you to glide slowly. it really helps when the jump is high and far. the six zones where you can get the coins to reach the final boss are the pumpkin zone, the tree zone, the mario zone, the star zone, the turtle zone and the mini zone. i dont really know thereal names for the zones but a few of them are correct.
Graphics:  the graphics in this game are good for a GB game and defenatly an improvement from the first mario land. the enemies were more detailed then the first mario land. i gave the Graphics  7
Sound: the sound in this game is good and the music level suited the level so it wasnt like some happy song in a scary place or anything like that. i gave the sound 7
Addictiveness: i found this game very addicting i kept playing it untill i had completed it. what made it addicting is that there are some really easy levels and some really hard levels like in lots of games. i gave the addictiveness 8
Story: the story isnt very clear in this game. im not even sure if there was a story at all. the only thing that was clear is that the final boss was wario. it was to clear that the final boss was wario because you can just go to his castle and see a W on it and you can see wario at the top of the castle running. i gave the story 4
Depth: this game was not very long it just took a bit of effort and you can complete it in a day. i also gave the depth 4
Difficulty: this game was farely easy. you just need to put in some effort and it wouldnt be so hard. this game also forces you to be smart with some of the bosses like the one at the star zone where he shoots 2 projectiles that you cant dodge at first because one of the follows you when it is about to go past  you but you will not know that till it happens. i gave the difficulty 6
Overall: overall this game was fun to play and had lots of surprises like the ants that have spikes on top of them. the only thing that i wished this game had was colour. thats why it was made on the game boy instead of the game boy colour. overall i gave the game 8.1
i hope you enjoyed my review.

Super Mario Land 2: Golden   kabenon007
Among the various Mario titles on the GameBoy, I place this on the very
top. Though it is a short affair, and not very difficult, it offers up
the most unique environments in a Mario game up to this point.
Graphics: 9
The graphics really shine, though only on the primitive GameBoy. The
environments, as mentioned before, are very intense, varied, and
specific. The accompanying graphics capture each environment perfectly,
whether it is the dark and surprisingly sadistic Pumpkin Zone, or the
oddly yet appropriately mechanical Mario Zone. The environments never
feel stale and make great use of the hardware that the GameBoy has to
offer. The amount of detail that could be packed into a game made
entirely of primitive pixels continues to amaze me.
Sound: 10
Surprisingly, this aspect of the game was what I found most enjoyable.
Each environment has a wonderful set of background music, magnificently
accentuating the experience. Whether it is a woodsy type song for Tree
Zone, or a bubbly song for the Turtle Zone, the songs are immediately
recognizable and make you think "Yeah, this is a tree. Or a pumpkin. Or
the moon."
Addictiveness: 7
Yeah, this game is fun and all, but it's really not all that long. Sure
there are a few hidden paths to discover through the levels, but even
with those the game is very short. It is hard to recommend more than a
couple of play throughs, because once you've played the game all the way
through once, you know where every enemy will be and how to counter
them.
Story: 9
Ok, so the story is much more of a setting, in which Mario must gather six macguffins
to unlock the gate TO HIS OWN CASTLE in order to kick Wario out of HIS
OWN CASTLE. It's just my own opinion Mario, but wouldn't it have been
easier to just keep Wario out of your castle than to have to go to all
this trouble to get him out? And seriously, who has six different keys
that you have to have to unlock your front door? If I had to go to the
grocery store, the gas station, and a slew of other locales just because
I forgot the key to my front door, I would rethink my whole spare key
idea. But I like this story because it shows off Wario who is, in some
ways, more frightening and challenging to Mario than Bowser. Sure Bowser
breathes fire, but Wario is capable of using the exact same power ups
that Mario himself can. Heck, he even looks like him, giving it a very
"your greatest enemy is yourself" feel. Or maybe I'm reading too much
into it. Nawwww.
Depth and Difficulty: 6 & 5 respectively
I group these two together because they were what took me out of the
game the most. As I stated before, it is short. I blew through this game
in a couple of hours, and there's not a whole lot to do after that.
Maybe discover a few new routes here and there, but nothing else. And
throughout all of this, I barely died. Sure I had my slip ups, but it
was more due my not paying attention to the game because it was so
bloody easy. I found myself not paying very close attention to what I
was doing, breezing past enemies and obstacles, and then all of a sudden
a challenge would appear, but I was still in "autopilot" and I would
blunder right into lava. Or spikes. Or whatever. The point is, it lulled
me into a state of going through the game without really paying
attention, which isn't good.
Overall, I would say that you have to play this game at least once, if
not twice, to appreciate the wonder of the world created here and to see
Wario pitted against Mario in their first big confrontation, the first
of many.

Super Mario Land 2 Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 9.4
Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins on the Game Boy is a very fun game to play.  I did not know that there was a sequel to the first Super Mario Land, but there is.  When I played this game, my opinion was that the game played 2 parts: Super Mario Bros on the NES and Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo.  At first I thought this game was going to be similar to the first one, but I am surprised that it is not, which is a good thing.  I really liked playing this game and I guarantee that you will enjoy this game.
Graphics - 9
The graphics are very interesting, even though it is in black and white, it still is not that bad for a Game Boy game.  The effects were slightly bad, but in a way, it plays as the first one and I seemed to not bother me much.  What I am talking about is when you are an adult or you have a fire flower and you get hit, the game does not pause for a millisecond, it will keep on playing while you are getting smaller.  That is really good because we all know how it feels to get hit in the air and you suddenly mess up and accidentally end up being in the dead zone.
Sound - 8
The sound is kind of disturbing, but I seemed to not care much on a count of how old this game is.  First off is the music.  The music is okay in some levels.  The sound effects really caught my attention.  For example, when you get the star in the game, it is not going to play the melody that we all seem to know in all the other Mario games, it would play something different and that is kind of weird to not hear the star melody.  Other than that, the rest seems to be good.
Addictiveness - 9
The game is very fun to play, like I said.  I would love to keep on playing this game till I get to the end.  I would say that it may get addicting, but that is what I like in a game, addiction.
Story - 8
The story connects to the first game.  After the first game, Wario comes in and brainwashes everyone in thinking that he is the king.  Wario takes over Mario's castle and it is up to Mario to retrieve the 6 golden coins to get to Wario and defeat him.  This is surprising because I would never expect to see that Peach and Bowser have nothing to do with this game.
Depth - 8
The game has a lot to offer, surprisingly.  For instance, at the end of a level, you get a little bonus game where you can get either a mushroom, 3 lives, a fire flower, and other interesting items and there is no losing to this, which is awesome.  Another thing is that the levels look a bit small, like it is zoomed in.  Kind of weird, but a long as there is nothing coming from the top is okay.  Also, the features in the game, when choosing a level, are a bit different than Super Mario World.  You can move around places in the area instead of having to beat every level to reach to where you want to go to.  There is another thing that surprised me and it was the check points and the end of a level.  They are bells.  I thought it was for decoration, but I realized that the bells are the checkpoints.  All of this is very interesting as a Game Boy game in my opinion.
Difficulty - 4
The game is not that hard, but it is a little when you are playing it with a keyboard.  The enemies are what you would expect: goombas, koopas, and all them piranhas (Ha, tried to make a little rhyme there :P).  For the levels, it is not that bad.  I do not see anything very hard in the game as far as I am concerned.
Wrap Things Up...
Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins is a very interesting game to play, especially when you do not expect it to have some of these things.  I highly recommend trying this game out if you have not already.  I really enjoy playing this game and I hope that it is the same to you. :)

Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins
Release Date : 1992
System : Game Boy
Overall : 9.9
I really like this Mario game , the first time I played this , which was last year I thought I was a bad but when I beat the first level I quickly got addicted to this game , I have beaten the game which was hard but it was worth it and just to tell the first time I played this game was on my 3DS .
Graphics : 7
The graphics are good , not saying that its terrible just because it was in black and white , its suppose to be like that since its was old game but Nintendo should of put this game in color like Super Mario Bros which came out before this game , but again the graphics are good .
Sounds : 9
The music is new to me since I started playing like last year . But I can' t say much about the music but that the music is great and its still stuck in head .
Addictiveness : 7
I will say that this game is very addictive for me , I have beaten the game in one day because its was very addictive and I never got off my DS unless it was to use the restroom or eat but to tell that you should play a game for hours without rest , you will get poo brain :P
Story : 8
This how the game begins , you have to beat the first level to go to different worlds but I forgot the names  and I nearly to say that you need to get six golden coins to get to wario and beat him .
Depth : 7
This game could offer a lot from defeating enemies and beating levels to Defeating bosses and beating the game , but I believe it offers more than that I just can't ... oh yeah there is a mini game that lets you get more items or lives . Last time I got over 5o lives from the mini game .
Difficulty : 6
Super Mario Land 2 is a little hard to beat but I manage to beat it anyway it took me a day because I was addictive to the game like I said before maybe for some people is easy .
Well that's all I got to say for the game , it is a great game and I hope you have a great day . :D

Mario Golden Coins!   darthyoda
Welcome to another darthyoda game review, please comment if you have a different opinion on this game or would like to add to it...
Run through the world of Mario, with Gumpas, koopas, flying gumpas, and 7 different bosses! There are seven different worlds each with their own unique traits, like the micro-house, where you have become small and fight different ants, each has different abilities. One of the ants has spikes on its back that come up when you come near, and another has pincers... Also you have the turtle zone, where you are underwater for most of the zone. You have the tree zone where you will be fighting at the base of the tree, at the crown of the tree, and at the very top. Bowser isn't in this game, but you have to fight another enemy known as Wario! Although I have never beaten the game, I have gotten to wario, and have seen one of my brothers beat the game. Enjoy running through this unique, and exciting world of Mario!
Graphics
Because this game is from the Game boy, it doesn't have very good graphics, but still the image is very clear... You also don't have the game freezing, or blacking out. One will find it hard to set down, because of the clear graphics, which make the game more exciting.
Sound
The sound is very good, with addicting tunes, that you will want to hum all the time!
Addictiveness
The game is very addictive, especially for an old classic! I found this game very hard to set down!
Story
The game doesn't really have a story, but you can still see through what is in the game, and what happened behind the scenes.
Depth
The game has a lot to offer, you can play all levels over, and over again! You also can find hidden short cuts, which allow you to pass many of the levels, and go straight to the boss!
The game isn't very difficult, until you get to the bosses, then the game seems much harder!

Super Mario Land 2 6 Golden Coins review!   G@mehe@d
Super Mario Land 2 6 Golden Coins was released in 1992 for the Game Boy. It was a dramatic improvement from Super Mario Land 1. There is way more levels with plenty of hidden routes, and there is more stuff do. It does not however have as much replay value as the first one. It is still a great game that you should play.
STORY: The story is where Wario invades Mario land and does terrible stuff to it. Mario has to get 6 golden coins from around Mario Land. He will encounter evil enemies and foes, but Mario has a new power up called Bunny Mario. It may seem useless but it can come quite handy. Like if Mario need to cross a long distance, his bunny power up can make him glide through the sky. Once Mario has all 6 golden coins. He can get in Wario's castle and attempt to defeat this evil freak.
GRAPHICS: The graphics are a major improvement to it's predecessor. There is more detail and more elaborate levels. Also there is a lot more original levels. Some you can go inside a robot Mario, or you can shrink to go in micro zone, you can even go into space. There is plenty more levels that I could tell you, but that's something for you to discover!
SOUND: The soundtrack is a lot more complex then the previous title. There are more songs and better sound effects. This game is definitely a major improvement.
ADDICTIVENESS: Once I started the game, I did not want to get off. So I played through the game in an entire hour and a half. However the game does not have nearly as much replay value, as the previous game. You will still be glued to the game though.
DEPTH: There is a lot to offer. There is 29 levels including some secret levels. That is more then twice the amount of levels then the previous game had which has 12 levels. There is also a little bonus house that has 4 different pipes that cost different amounts of coins to get in. The more expensive 2 have better things you can win, and the cheaper 2 have more simple stuff like 1 extra life or a power up.
DIFFICULTY: The game is just as hard as the first one. In fact, maybe easier I did not die as often in this game then in the last one.

Carrot to look at this review?   supernerd117
Ah, for a simpler era. Simpler graphics, simpler controls, simpler levels. With every few steps forward, we have taken other steps back. Some things have improved. Others have deteriorated.
Case in point: Super Mario Land 2. For its time, this game had fantastic graphics. It also had a plethora of levels that could be traversed backwards and forwards. But it also was very simple in just about every way. Its simplicity was its greatest weakness.
Let’s start with the controls: A to jump/glide, B to run/shoot fire/pick up and throw enemies. Control pad moves Mario, and down crouches, enters a pipe or does a twirl in midair, a la Super Mario World.
Aside from the standard mushroom, there are two powerups, the fire flower and the winged carrot. The former can burn certain blocks and enemies, and the latter can allow you to glide certain distances but negates the ability to twirl. The carrot is put to liberal use in many levels, and can feel like a bit of a cop-out to Mario speedrunners. Often, the fastest way from point A to point B is to grab a carrot and glide, although other means may be used, and are often encouraged.
After a simple intro level, the game is split into 6 zones:
1. Tree Zone
a. Focus on leaves/treetops
b. Giant owls appear in certain of these. Mario can ride on them.
2. Space Zone
a. Focus on space
b. In one level, Mario can float as the screen moves toward the right.
c. In another, Mario jumps very high due to low gravity.
3. Macro Zone
a. Mario is mini
b. In the levels, with the exception of most enemies, objects appear huge.
4. Pumpkin Zone
a. Halloween theme
b. Various halloween-themed enemies are fought in these levels.
5. Mario Zone
a. Completed in a giant robot version of Mario
b. Many conveyor belts and the like.
6. Turtle Zone
a. Inside a turtle
b. Many levels feature large underwater sections.
Overall, the concepts in these levels are not dwelt on enough or are too easy fare for the common gamer. Younger children may feel at home. Most people probably will enjoy it, and move on, unless they are a fan of Mario games.
Beating a zone earns a “token”. Gain all six, and a final level will open up. Lose all your lives, and you have to face the bosses of each zone again. Fortunately, there is a generous sprinkling of lives (hearts) throughout the levels. In addition, you can spend coins on a slot machine of sorts. The more coins you spend, the greater chance of earning more lives.
Also, defeating 100 enemies earns Mario a star. This star appears immediately in the level once Mario defeats the 100th enemy. Like previous Mario games, it will make him invincible for a short amount of time. Defeat enough enemies (5+) and you will earn consecutive 1ups per extra enemy beaten.
Overall, this game is mediocre for a Mario game. I give it a 7.0.
Nota Bene: The final level may be worth playing through the game for. It is tightly designed, and is quite the challenge.

a golden sequel   Spicy
Hello
imamonster here with another game review this time I will be reviewing Super
Mario land 2 6 golden coins. First let's talk about the back story of this game
and how it came to be. Super Mario land was a big success so of course they
would make a sequel soon right? NO. This game came out 3 YEARS 3 FREAKING YEARS
after the super Mario land 1 was released. What took em so long. Like the first
super Mario land Shigeru Miyamoto was not part of the credits. Since he did not
work on this game. This time it was Hiroji Kiyotake. This game is also
known for something else a secret but that will be told later in the review.
Let's get started.
Graphics 10/10
The graphics are amazing for the gameboy. If you have read my previous review.
You would know that the graphics in the first Mario land were not so good and
made the game harder. Everything was small. But this time everything is big!
Mario it looks like you stopped that diet huh? (reference to my previous
review) The sprites are well detailed and platforms this time around are easy
to see. There are emotions on the faces. And animations are phenomenal.
Backgrounds are also very well done some even look amazing. Space zone just
looks awesome all the little details they put in like the word happy in the sky
and the blinking stars. And macro zone where everything is big or where you are
small. And there are giant bugs. And then there is pumpkin zone. A zone with
horror movie influences. You will see things like Jason masks. And the mirrors
from the Dracula hammer movies.(only a horror movie nerd like myself know how
they are) and that makes it my favourite zone in the graphics department. And
the Mario zone is also great. Which is very unique with balls in the background
If you play the game in color it looks great it looks vibrant and nice.
that is really it for the graphics there isn't a lot to talk about The
graphics get a 10/10
Sound 8/10
The music of the first super ?Mario land was composed by Hirokazu Tanaka the music was great. But in this game the music was composed by Kazumi Totaka. Known for games like The legend of zelda links awakening and yoshi's story. In a lot of the games he worked on there is a secret. Known as totaka's song in this game if you get the game over screen wait 2 minutes and 30 seconds the totaka song will play. You can defenitely hear totaka's style in this game. It is very uniqiue and hard to explain. It fits the game perfectly.Compared to other games on the console it is not overwhelming. Its very basic and fun.he is also worked on the music of Wii sports. im sorry this part is a little lacking, its just that totakas style is hard to explain. Dark area's always fit with totaka's style. the sound effects are great. Breacking a block feels satisying and fun because of the effect. also when the timer gets low you need to hurry and the sound supports that. Overall the music is great and unique and the sound effects are satisfying and fitting a 8/10
Addictiveness 7/10
This game can be super addicting. The game is huge (for a gameboy game) the controls are smooth and there is a lot to do. There are a loooooot of secrets you can discover. (i have not discovered all of them) There is a zone called space zone wich is a secret zone but it is one you need to advance in the game. The only issue with Addictiveness is ?that the game is too easy and gets boring. This is a game i will play again. The secrets keep it interesting. you will be satisfied when you find these secrets. When i found one wich im not gonna spoil it felt great. playing trough the levels is a lot of fun. Stomping on goomba's and also on some new enemies keep it fresh. The story is pretty good and making your way to wario's castle to kick his but is fun. overall the game is pretty addicting. however the game is very easy and gets boring if you have played the game for a long time. ?
Now let's talk about the controls they are smooth and are great. You have good control over mario and stomping an enemy is easy. The objective like most mario games is to get to the end of each level. And while the first super mario land had more in common with the first super mario bros on nes. This one has more in common with super mario bros 3. So if you like mario bros 3 you will probably like this one. I give the addictiveness a 7/10
Story 6/10
The story in this game is good.It takes place immedtiatly after super mario land 1. While mario was away in sarasa land wario put an evil spell. It brainwashed the inhabitants in to thinking that wario was their master and mario their enemy. This was because wario wanted mario's castle. Wario was always jealous of mario. Wario scattered all the 6 golden coins over the land now mario needs to get the golden coins back if he gets all of the 6 golden coins and if he defeats wario his castle will be his again. Better story then most of the mario games. In almost all of them it is bowser kidnaps princess mario needs to save her. Now this story is very unique (for a mario game that is) this is also the first time we ever saw Wario. At first a lot of people thought that wario was mario's brother but this is not true. Overall the story is something fresh (for a mario game) and a good story for a portable mario game. That was it for the story a 6/10
Depth 8/10
This game ?is BIG! (for a gameboy game) these are the zones hold on to your seats! Here we go.
tree zone
space zone?
macro zone
Pumpin zone
Mario zone
Turtle zone
Mario's castle
A lot huh. I cant say how many levels because that will take a 1000000000000 hours to read. there is a lot to do. secrets are cleverly hidden. A lot of the enemies of super mario world are here. The spin jump from mario world is also in this game. The fireball is back. But different then in the first mario land. It does not bounce of of blocks anymore and is like the ball in super mario world. Bells now count as a checkpoint. There is also at the end of each level a bell you can ring to play a bonus game. You can get 1 ups fireflower and a new powerup. Its a shame they did not use this powerup in any other game. It is a carrot. If you get it you can hover in the air. Overall there is a lot you can do in this game (for a gameboy game) i give the depth a 8/10.
Difficulty 3/10
This where the game falls short. It is too easy. The first mario land was hard but rewarding. If you have beaten this game. You adont feel rewarding,Because the game is to easy. While the last level is hard.If a game is hard its easy to explain but if a game is easy it is not easy to explain. There are not a lot of enemies wich are hard to dodge. And there are a lot of power ups. this game overall is to easy a 3/10
Memories 7/10
If you have not read my previous 2 reviews (wich you probably have not) this is new to you. This is were (if i have memories) the memories are talked about. I have one about this game.
So i just finished super mario land on an emulator (at age 9) i used save states because the game was kicking my butt. I got bored after i finished the first mario land and searched for another game i could play on the emulator. And i found Super mario land 2. My 9 year old heart started pumping so hard i could hear it. I screamed: HECK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. so i quickly asked my mom if i could download it. She was afraid that there was a virus so we had to check that. it took so long (probably only 5 minutes but for a 9 year old that is 5 hours). There was no virus. So i could download it i put it on the emulator and i played the game the whole day. And guess what i did not save states. Anyway that were the memories.
OVERALL 8.5/10
This is a great game that you need to check out if your a mario fan. Controls are smooth. There is a lot to do and it is just plain fun. ?So i say check it out!
If you liked the review please reply. It makes me wanna continue

It's a good sequel. No, an amazing one!   RedHotToddy
When Super Mario land hit the scene on the Nintendo gameboy years and years ago, Fans of the plumber were amazed at how much this game felt like the original first few Mario adventures, the game went on to be one of the gameboy's best sellers quickly! Now the game that we are going to be looking at today is the fun sequel to the hit platformer, this is Super Mario land 2:6 Golden coins for the Gameboy, will this game be a worth sequel, or will it go in the broken pile like most sequels? Let's find out .
Story-7/10
The main plot behind this adventure is that Mario's royal and giant castle has been stolen by his arch-nemesis Wario! It is now up to you to get the castle back into the right hands! But it is not all that simple, Mario will first have to retrieve 6 golden coins hidden around his world in order to get the castle back! Anyways, now you know the plot, let's just get into the gameplay.
Gameplay-8/10
This game plays much like the previous installment, except there are a whole lot of new things added in, The first main difference is that the levels are not just one plain point A to point B level like in the last game, Instead the levels are actually connected by worlds much like Super Mario bros 1, you know? World 1-1. 1-2, 1-3, and so on. So anyways, as Mario you will be running from the beginning of the level to the end trying to get back in once piece, Along his way he will have to fight a bunch of enemies and collect various items, Most importantly the 6 golden coins so he can get back the castle and his world, and coins hearts 1-ups and all that good stuff. Every few levels you must fight a tough and challenging boss fight, these guys are way powerful then normal enemies and will take alot of strategy to defeat. The controls are pretty simple, D-pad is move, A is jump, B is run, and yeah that is pretty much. Every few levels you will have to play a fun little bonus game to earn 1-ups mushrooms and all of that good stuff. Anyways, that is pretty much it for the gameplay.
Graphics-8/10
Back when the first game came out, everything looked like a freaking pixel, But a few years later, Nintendo really stepped their game up! Everything looks larger and better then ever! The levels, the sprites, the HUD, and so on. But anyways, the game's graphics are really good! But considering this is the gameboy, everything is black and white, but it still looks pretty darn good! All the levels are big vibrant and have tons to do and see! The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It displays your amount of lives left until game over, Your current amount of coins, how many enemies you have killed in a while, and your overall score for the level. Mario's sprite in this game is my personal favorite, he really looks like himself!  And so are his enemies, most of the oldies like koopa goomba and others have returned, but there are some new ones as well! Anyways, that is it for the graphics.
Sound-7/10
Like all Mario games, the game has very very cheerful happy and vibrantly catchy music that will really catch your attention the whole ride through his world. My personal favorite is the overworld theme in the first level, It's like every first level of a Mario game has some nifty overworld theme! Now as for the sound effects, they are pretty self explanatory as well, you get your basic bleeps, bloops, booms, bangs, and a bunch of other cool stuff. Now while the music can get a little and I say a LITTLE repetitive at certain times, It is really no problem to be honest!
Addictiveness-8/10
Like a majority of all Mario games I have played, the game has alot of charm and fun to keep me coming back for more! The first sign of this is how much stuff the game offers! Each world in the game has a bunch of levels, mini levels and bonus stuff to it! Now that is something you would come to expect from Mario!
Depth-9/10
Wow! Not only is this game big, but it is really long and packed with stuff to do and collect the whole ride through! First of all, the game is over 6 worlds long! So It will most likely take you around 2 hours to get through this one. And second, the worlds are really big and long! About 7-8 levels and mini-levels in total, so that is alot to have you coming back, and the levels themselves have alot of treasure and extra goodies to get as well, which is really the icing on the cake! Mario games are big long and have alot to do, so why not this one?
Difficulty-7/10
Aside from all of that, the game can actually get pretty hard at times! I remembered getting pummeled by some of those tough bosses quite a few times, but oh well, The game is made by Nintendo, so It is supposed to be hard! Or else this would just be a game that no one will even bother to play at all! But if you are a true expert at gaming, then this one shouldn't give you much trouble, for now that is.
Overall-8.5/10
I am really no stranger to good sequels, and this is no exception! This game is really fun challenging and just overall a blast to play through! I will give you my reasons why I rated the game as it is, I gave this game a 8.5 because it is fun, challenging, and offers alot And I say ALOT of replay value to it! Buy this one now, YOU WON'T REGRET IT, anyways this has been my 103rd review, see you guys later!

SML2: Golden Coins Review   IgorBird122
This is the 2nd Mario game installment for the Original Game Boy. This game right here is where we see the beginnings of the Greedy Wario, who happens to take over Mario's castle when Mario was saving Daisy in the last game.
The Graphics:
The graphics in this game is extremely awesome for a Original Game Boy version. The background in each of the worlds is well done, even for the Game Boy. Not just the Background, but the foreground and the character spites as well. Although some does have some flaws, but other that that, it's great.
I give this an 8 out of 10.
--------
The Sound/Music:
The Music in this game does sound really good, even some are addicting to listen to.
The Sound effects it pretty alright, some of the sound effects does come from the classic Super Mario Bros. (like the jumping and the fire power), and others does have an interesting sound, althoug a couple does sound a little sharp, but other than that, it's pretty good.
I give this a 9 out of 10
--------
The Addictiveness:
The addiction level isn't really that high, but I can say, it'll have you wanting to play this game again in the future, just to try out all the different levels in the game or just want to face Wario again.
I give this a 6 out of 10.
--------
The Story:
The Story of this game started just after Mario saved Daisy from Tatanga in the last Super Mario Land game. When Mario returnd, he found out that his castle has been stolen by Wario and Wario has scattered 6 golden coins which unlocks the door to the castle in 6 different worlds (a.k.a. Zones) and Mario has to defeat those 6 bosses in each area to get those coins and once you get into the castle, you have to dodge a ton of obstacles in your way and once you're able to get though all of that, you go face to face with Wario and fight him to get your castle back.
I give this a 9 out of 10
--------
The Depth:
They're really a whole lot of depth into this game, instead of completing all the worlds in order, in this game, you can play all 6 worlds in any order you want to play (although you got to do the level in order in the world). once you do complete all 6 worlds, you can go to your castle and reclaim it once again after the castle has been stolen from Wario. Not just the 6 different worlds you can choose, but also some optional bonus levels in each of the Zones you can play in and you also got a mini-game to play for power-ups or lives (although it cost a certain amount of coins to play).
I give this a perfect 10 out of 10
--------
The Difficulty:
The Difficulty isn't that bad, in fact, the game is pretty easy to play, although the final level (Mario's Castle), has taking me quite a bit of time to complete, but other than that, the game is really simple to play, mostly if you know what you're doing.
I give this a 5 out of 10
--------
Overall:
Overall, this game is really interesting, it does ave a lot more than the previous Mario Land game offered. I do have to say, this game is a pretty great game if you haven tried this game out, so if you're one of those guys that wants to play worlds out of pure random, this game you should try out.
I give this game an overall rating of 9 out of 10
