It's a Mario Game That's Not Actually a Mario Game! Wait, what?   Itachi9695
Greetings ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to Mario Month! Today we'll be looking at Super Mario Bros. 2. A game that is so frustrating it'll make you...wait, I'm thinking of the Japanese Mario 2 aren't I? Sorry, this is the American Mario Bros. 2...even though it wasn't originally a Mario game at all. I'm quite certain that a vast majority of people know this already, but for those who don't, Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a. The Lost Levels) was released in Japan as a direct sequel to Super Mario Bros. However Nintendo of America thought the game was "too hard" for the American gamer. You know, even though they let several other "hard" games come here, like Contra, Mega Man, Battletoads, Ghosts and Goblins, but Mario Bros. 2? Forget it, way too hard. So they came up with an idea. At around the same time that Mario 2 was released in Japan, Miyamoto had developed a game called Doki Doki Panic. Nintendo of America decided to take this game, slap a Mario skin on it and BAM, new Mario game. So, is this game worthy of being a sequel to the classic of all classics? Let's find out!
Graphics
The graphics are an improvement over the first game. You can distinguish certain characters better than the other game and the animation is pretty good by NES standards. I have to say, this is one of the best looking NES games of the time. While the backgrounds aren't exactly too detailed, they at least match their environment. The stages themselves look nice and really good by NES standards. The enemies are all distinguishable and you can tell which ones have certain abilities based on how they look. It's a good-looking game and it still somewhat holds up today, even though it has aged slightly.
Sound
The soundtrack, while not too varied is often very catchy. Take the ground theme and the boss theme. Both are really memorable and anyone who's ever played this game knows it. They're probably the most recognizable tunes in the entire game as I tend to hear these songs quite a bit in Mario related videos. The jumping sound effect is pulled straight from the original game, go figure, and the rest fit pretty well with the effect they're trying to give.  Not the best, but very far from the worst in terms of both music and sound effects on the NES.
Addictiveness
If you really enjoy this game, it can be a blast to come back to. It's a new direction for Mario and I think it works quite well. I know this wasn't originally a Mario game, but it does play like one in most aspects. With the addition of 3 new playable characters, well not "new", but we've never played as them like they are in this game at this point, you're probably going to want to try all 4 characters to see which one you like the most. The level designs and bosses are quite creative and unique and I don't remember seeing boss fights like these ever again. I personally think they should bring these back, even if it's just one more time, I'd like to see them again.
Story
Ok, we all know the classic Mario story; Bowser kidnaps Peach, Mario rescues Peach and...wait, that's not this game's story? My mistake, Bowser actually isn't even in this game at all. He doesn't even have a cameo, at least as far as I know. So apparently, Wart decides to take control of a place called Subcon and Mario and friends decide to take action and pop this Wart. (Get it? No? Nobody? Aww...) At the end, we find out it was all just a dream that Mario had. Don't worry, this plot theme will never show up in any game from here on out. Right? (Looks at Sonic '06) Oh, right...
Depth
The game has 7 Worlds, with 3 Levels in the first 6, and 2 in the last world. A pretty decent game size, but not quite as big as Super Mario Bros. However, what this game lacks in quantity of levels, it adds to the levels themselves. Sometimes, you will have to find a key located in a specific jar or other area in order to complete the level. The game has quite the number of enemies, but they are pretty spread out, so you shouldn't have too much trouble dealing with them. A pretty big game, but I can't help but think that this could've been so much bigger, but I won't judge too much on this aspect.
Controls/Gameplay
The gameplay is very similar to the first, but it does have major differences. The D-pad is used to move and the A-button is used for jumping. The B-button is still used for running, but is now also used to pick up items like vegetables, Bob-ombs, and other enemies. You can get an even higher jump if you hold the down arrow, then when your character starts flashing, jump, it's great for reaching higher areas. One change is that instead of one character, you now have four to choose from, Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach, each with their own unique traits. Mario is your standard all-around character with no specific emphasis on any ability, he's very "middle-of-the-road" in this game. Luigi is probably the character I use the most. I've been using him ever since I played the GBA version of the game, and it feels somewhat weird using anybody else. He has a higher jump and is slightly faster than Mario, however this does cause him to be a bit more slippery on the ground. Toad is the strongest of the characters, but his jump and speed aren't exactly on par with Mario or Luigi. Toad's perfect for large enemy clusters, whenever they appear that is. And finally, we have Peach, the weakest of the bunch, but she does have one ability that could probably immediately classify her as being "easy mode", the ability to float for a brief period of time. If you want to get through a heavy platforming level with little to no challenge, use Peach. It still controls really well and is a pretty easy game for someone to pick up and play.
Overall, while the second installment to the Super Mario Bros. franchise is still a decent game, I don't find it to be as good as the original, and to be honest, I don't consider this a true sequel, I'll save that for the next review though. With good controls, good graphics and great music, I give Super Mario Bros. 2 a 7.5 out of 10. Join me next time for Super Mario Bros. 3, and until then; Peace out!

Super Mario Bros 2 (NES)review   bombchu link
Super Mario Bros 2 (NES) Review.
Super Mario Bros 2 is a classic title, but if your not a "Super" Mario fan or a Retro gamer. You most likely have memories of Super Mario Bros 1, or 3, why? Well, let's take a quick look back at the history of the game. . .
Super Mario Bros 2 started out as a Game called Yume Kojo, or in English, Doki Doki Panic. . .yes, I'm not fooling. . .Doki Doki Panic was a Japinese only title that would feature 4 Ninjas who were out to stop an evil King called Wart. But about 2/3 way throught development Nintendo saw that the Mario series was about to blow through the roof. super Mario Bros 3 was quite away off, so they though it would be best to release Super Mario Bros 2 by using the Doki Doki Panic engine and finish the game really fast, and avast, we have Super Mario bros 2. Instead of featuring the 4 Ninjas like originally planned, they were replaced with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad. this really explains why their are no Goombas or Koopas or (yours truly) Bowser in the Game, And we have Shy guys, Pokeys and Wart instead. not to mention that you pickup baddies and throw them at other enemies to kill them instead of the traditional goomba stomping fun. Now that I have given you a little history lesson, on to the review!
~Graphics~ 6
Not to much to say here, the Graphics are clean but a tad darker was used then you would expect to see in a Mario (or really Doki Doki Panic) game. As for the enemies and Bosses, they are not exactly original, unless you can call a three headed snake or a spiked walking cacti "original" . But were looking at Doki Doki Panic more then we are Mario at this point, so I better get used to it. I would have honestly put more down for graphics, but I have a really hard time getting over the hurdle of "oh, the graphic are nice and clean, and bright" :/ well pity me, onto Difficulty.
~Difficulty~ 8
This title is quite a hard one, especially for a Mario game. You know how there is a general rule where you head right to get to the end of a level, well this game takes is as a more of a suggestion, Level 1 and 2 of each world, follow this plan, but the third level has you climb a tower to nab a Key and take it to t the bottom. . .while having to avoid a floating mask that is CONSTANTLY trying to hit you and make you drop the key. And the last level is just, almost impossible. Running around the giant palace while trying to find the key and taking it around (whilde avoiding the relentless Mask as well)  just makes the game aggrivating to me. I'm not the best Mario player mind you, but no one should have to put up with this.
~Depth~ 6

there are 7 worlds with three levels each (excluding world 7 which has only 2 levels, witch comes out to 20 Levels for all you math nerds) The game will take you about 2 to 3 hours to complete, on average.  .. if you are skilled at Mario titles that is. their are 4 characters you can play as, and they all have different stats. Mario is you basic unit with medium jump, pull and run. (pull is how fast you can pick up enemies or pull turnups out of the ground) Toad had great speed and even better run, but this jump is very lousy. Luigi has jump beyond compare and can almost float he is so light, but he has a lack of pull and speed. Peach has poor pull and bad speed and a medium jump. her advantage is that she can float in the air by pressing A while jumping.  The stats of characers do help add to the playabilityand can help when your stuck in a place and they also add variety. to the game.
~Sound/Music~ 6
Hey! Finally something Mario-y in the game! at least after putting us in this starnge world you give up some music that takes
us back to the Mushroom kingdom! The music sounds cherry in all, but their are only 3 different tunes (if I am correct in that the final boss does not have his own tune) Land/Sky, Cave/Dungeon, and Boss music, it sound nice in all, in fact it sounds very good, and was very enjoyable, but music was never something that stood out in Mario game s like it did in Zelda titles, it is classic, but not epic. Grand music didn't start to appear in Mario Games untill Super Mario Galaxy over twenty years later. (and yet Zeld had grand music by their third game, Dark world anybody?)
~Addictiveness~ 5
I was never a hardcore Mario fan (ok, maybe I was when I was 5, but that was a long time ago) I played through the game once (with countless savestates) and was done with it. not to slam on the game, it was a good game, but wasn't exactly a great game. It's one of those titles that you like or you don't (Like Sonic CD).

~Story~ 7
Mario games don't usually have good Story, but this is an exception to that rule. The story starts out where Mario walks into a cave and opens a door. After opening the door he falls into another world called Subcon. In this world he must travel to the castle of Wart who lives in the sky and free the land of this evil king. It's a simple story, but honestly it beats "Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser! Mario (for the umphteenth time) must save her" anyday. You go on to find you that Mario was just dreaming any you wake up at the end of the game after defeating Wart. Hence the name Subcon, as in Subconcious.

~Overall~ 7

The big complaint athat I have for this game is that
Now, lets review what we have learned.
PROS:
   New type of gameplay style
   New/better plot
   Good music
CONS:
   Not really a Mario title
   Difficulty is to high
   Mario is NOT a ninga!
No Fire flowers. or other Mario elements :(

Super Mario 2: the Easier Version   janus

In Japan, the “real” Super Mario Bros. 2 was known back in America as “The Lost Levels” on Super Mario All-Star. Deemed an “exercise in fake difficulty” by tasvideos.org, that game was considered too hard for America – I agree: too many long jumps that can only be achieved with very precise jumping on enemies or if you could ride the wind long enough (on SMAS, you could save after every level rather than every world) and the poisonous mushrooms could kill you.

So instead, Nintendo swapped the characters from Doki Doki Panic (on the Famicom Disk System) with Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad and called the game Super Mario Bros. 2. It’s quite a departure from other Mario games, but the result is still good.

Graphics: 8/10

The graphics are quite an improvement from Super Mario Bros. 1. Instead of a blob of pixels, the characters actually have human-like features (even when they are small). You can see their faces (the Princess’ mouth doesn’t have half her face anymore), their clothes and they can pick up enemies/plants from the ground and throw them. That latter action was impressive for 1988; you couldn't’t even pick shells in Mario 1.

In addition, all characters have unique characteristics: Toad doesn’t jump very high but it’s not affected when he carries something; Mario is the 2nd best jumper and it decreases a little when he carries something; Luigi is the best jumper but it decreases a lot when he carries something; and the Princess isn’t a great jumper and she becomes the worst one when she carries something. However, her dress allows her to float for a few seconds.

The levels are colorful and varied. On the overworld map, there are a variety of paths rather than the regular brick path and jump platforms in Mario 1 – you can even see realistic waterfalls. The ground is covered with vegetables to pick up, bombs and sometimes beakers. Throwing them on the ground will reveal a door where you can pick as many vegetables as you can see (giving you coins for a bonus round), grow-up mushrooms (extending your life bar) and sometimes warps to another level if there are urns.

Other than the regular “grass” world, there are two levels with quicksand that can kill you and even a realistically icy level that can make you slip on an enemy. Finally, there are also underground levels through which you will have to make your way in a variety of manners: finding a key and getting chased around by ghosts, digging sand to the bottom of a barrel or finding bombs to open brick walls.

Finally, your enemies are also well-drawn and much more diversified than Mario 1. The most common one is the Shy Guy, which comes in a variety of colors and abilities (some can spit beads, although it might not be called Shy Guy as such). The mid boss (Birdo) also comes with various abilities; he can spit eggs that you need to throw back at him, a mix of eggs and fireballs or strictly fireballs, in which case you need to throw something else. And zone bosses also come in various shapes and difficulty level. The mouse throws bombs you need to throw back before they explode, the tri-headed snake spits fireballs (the higher the level, the more fireballs); there is even a fireball whose spit you also need to avoid.

Music: 8/10

While having only slightly more diversity than Mario 1, Mario 2’s music is more elaborate. It’s even more elaborate than the original DDP music, with longer loops.

The general overworld theme is very upbeat and joyful, and the background beat seems to have inspired the bonus level theme for Super Mario Bros. 3. The underground theme has much more elaborate composition than Mario 1 with “Arabic”-sounding beats. There is even a theme for bosses and the final boss, something Mario 3 put more work into. Finally, kudos for the Mario 1 Easter egg music for the subworld (when breaking the beaker).

Because there are more actions, sound effects are more elaborate in Mario 2. The spitting sound is the same as the magicians you encounter in the first Legend of Zelda game, the picking and throwing sounds are neat, although the “picking random objects” (cherries, hearts to replenish your life bar) are rather bland. I also preferred the jumping sound.

Addictiveness: 8/10

Although I never really played the original Mario 2, I still have to admit that the “hooking-up” potential is quite high.

Other than graphics and music (which are an essential part of a good game for me), the gameplay in general is enjoyable. Unlike Mario 1, you can get hit as much as three times before the next hit kills you, and you don’t shrink by the first hit unless you only have two bars on your life meter. In most levels, you can increase it by strategically throwing your beaker and finding magic mushrooms (they will also restore any bars you lost).

Also, the subworld offers you the possibility of gaining tokens in order to play a slot machine that might give you extra lives. Getting the perfect combination (99 lives) is almost impossible, but you can at least get one or two if you get that many cherries.

Finally, the simple fact that you have a choice of four characters (which you can change after each level/ death) makes strategizing a thoughtful project. Levels with quicksand are better with Luigi and the Princess – they can avoid them better – but they can be hard to maneuver when the ground is icy.

Depth: 9/10

Mario 2 has so much more to offer than Mario 1.

First, the levels are much larger and have much more to explore. Granted, there are at best two beakers leading to the subworld and its bonus, but the levels seem to all alternate between the over and the underground. In Mario 1, it was always one of the other with the occasion bonus pipes. Also, Mario 2 offers more challenge by not having strictly flat levels like 1-1 in Mario 1. World 1-1 in Mario 2 offers extensive opportunities to jump over chasms and water falls, and you will climb ladders to reach a door you can’t (normally) reach otherwise in a higher elevation.

Second, the mid bosses also offer more challenge. No longer do you simply have to capture three flags before facing the same old, same old Bowser. In Mario 2, you will encounter three different forms of Birdo and five different bosses, whose challenge increase as the levels increase.

Finally, the final boss is much more challenging than any forms of Bowser in Mario 1. In the latter, you simply had to hit the axe at the end of the bridge (of fire enough fireballs) to kill him. But in the former, you will need different strategies as Wart won’t die just by jumping on his head on throwing vegetables randomly at him.

Difficulty: 6/10

Despite the many challenges of Mario 2, it’s much easier than Mario 1.

First, there is no time constraint whatsoever. Unless you get killed by an enemy of fall in a hole, you can just stand there (and appreciate the music J). Hell, you can even stand on top of an enemy as long as it doesn’t fall off/turn around because it reached the left-end side of the screen.

Also, as I said above, you have the possibility of getting up to four life bars in most levels, meaning that you don’t die right away; hell you don’t even shrink right away if you have at least two bars left.

In addition, the four different characters, all with their strength and weaknesses, will make your progress easier. Should you die because, say, you couldn't’t jump far enough, then you can get a character than jumps further and/or better when carrying an object.

Furthermore, invincibility stars are relatively easy to come by. You just have to pick enough cherries and they will come from the bottom of the screen.

However, the game does have a few challenges. First, finding those warp zones is much more difficult than in Mario 1 since you need to throw your beaker at the right place. That can take a while to find.

Also, getting lives in the slot machine can be challenging since (old technology obliging) the spinning wheels spin much too fast for you, unless you have extremely good reflexes. That was corrected in the Spade House in Mario 3. It’s also your only opportunity to get lives…

Furthermore, there is quite a bit of fire in the game, be it from bosses or regular enemies. Be sure to have a vegetable/a mushroom block at hand or you’ll get toasted. Also be very prudent when handling keys. They usually awaken VERY annoying ghosts that can make you lose your temper.

Finally, levels with sand in them will prove to be challenging. On the overworld part, it will quickly sink AND kill you, or slow you down enough so snakes and cacti can kill you. And in the underworld, some levels require you do dig into sand to make your way. Not only will you face enemies on your way down – who will fall in the holes you dig, no matter how narrow it becomes – but if you jump to high (and change screens), they will reappear – those spitting beads will have their weapon ricochet on the walls. And of course, there are deadends.

But overall, Super Mario Bros. 2 was a very nice game for its time. Nice graphics and music, lots to explore and a reasonable challenge. Sweet dreams!

Mario Bros 2. Review.   billythekidmons..
Well here I am once again. I have not had many reviews well any at all for quite a while now but I decided to write one and see if I can get myself back into the writing session that I had before. If you missed me I hope that I will be around a lot more. Though if you did not too bad, I am back and hopefully here to stay. That being said during my break I played through a lot of games so I should have a lot of reviews coming up. Here is my first of the bunch and it is Super Mario Brothers 2 for the NES.
First I have to say that right of the bat this is one of the few games that I have actual nostalgia for. Being younger than most people the games I have nostalgia for are newer then the games others have nostalgia for. Well when I got this game it was new to me. So in a first I will tell you guys about a little back story into my first Mario game.
Christmas morning about 6 AM. I cannot remember the year but that does not matter I was young and I felt like I could take on the world. The Game Boy SP had come out about a year before and I had wanted the game for quite some time. I was almost sure that I would get it for Christmas and I could not wait to get it. I got all of the presents that they set aside for me and opened them. I went through all of them in a timely manner as I did not want to look like I knew what was coming. Then after opening my gifts mostly clothes and a few books I sat there. I knew that I put my hopes up for nothing. Though I was happy with what I got. Then my mom said looks like there are two more under here. I immediately perked up. I put my hands out and the second that wrapping paper touched my hands I ripped it open. I found that there was newspaper and packing tape. I ripped that open. Then there was duct tape and more newspaper. This cycle went on for a long time then finally I saw the top of the box. I saw the Nintendo symbol and flipped. I knew I had to get in that package. I had to know what it was. I ripped through and found that it was a GBA SP. I went berserk. I also got a game that was like a 2 in one that was Shrek and Shark tale. A surprising title if I say so myself but that is a different review. My brother got one too and he got Mario 2. Naturally I slipped in one day and took it and fell in love with it. Now that you know the back story on to my actual critiques of the game.
Now aside from the fact that I told all about the GBA that is not the game I am reviewing. I am reviewing the original in all of its 8 bit glory. I never played the original for a really long time actually not till last year. The game looks good in my opinion though there are a lot of stages with just black backgrounds. This is weird because even the original Super Mario Bros. had bright colorful environments behind it. So I do not see why this game does not include that much of the time. I do like how the enemies look though. They all give me a slight giggle when I look at them just because they are well done and a departure from turtles and walking mushrooms in Super Mario Bros. I like this change as Shy Guy was introduced here and he is one of the best characters in Mario in my opinion. I like how all of the people look as well. You have 4 characters to pick from and all of them look different and play different as well. Mario looks a lot better than he did in the first NES game with his name on it and his brother is now his own man not just someone who is his twin but wears different colors. Luigi as a character as far as looks goes was actually based on this game. I think that is pretty cool.
The first thing that you will notice in this game is it is a large departure from the first title. You could almost say that it is a different game series entirely. While this may turn some people off to the game I still tell you that it is fun as ever. Like I said you have four characters; Luigi, Mario, Toad and even Peach. They each have their own special abilities that make them much different than any of the other characters. Mario is well Mario, he is the guy that is reliable but not too much beyond the ordinary. He can run jump and do all that but no more or less than you expect. Toad is a different story. Toad is quick and he is also really good at picking stuff out of the ground (more on that later). But he literally sucks at jumping. He cannot make some of the pits unless you are really good or really lucky. What is there to say about Peach? I cannot say much as I did not play as her much and found that she did not fit my play style. She can float like she is sitting on some cloud or something and it looks really weird to be honest. Though she is quick and floats so that makes up for her being extremely weak. Then last but not least is Luigi. I saved him for last because this game like I already hinted on pretty much set him up as a character, except for being a coward that was brought on by the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. I digress; in this game he is fairly weak though he has a distinct advantage in the jumping area. I mean DISTINCT. He can jump higher than anyone in the game and he has a flutter kick kind of thing that keeps him off the ground. This gives him a distinct advantage over all the other players and more than makes up for his lack of strength. In a game all about running and jumping he was made for it.
Another thing that was different about this game was the inclusion of a few things. First thing I would like to talk about is the inclusion of the Hyper Jump. This is where you hold down and then you charge up your jump so that when you click that jump button it is too the sky. This can be very helpful to get to secret pipes or even jump out of trouble. The other addition which seems very strange is the fact that you pick stuff out of the ground and hurl it at enemies to kill them. This is very odd because before you would just jump their heads and that was that. Though this will work no longer as jumping on them just makes it so you can pick them up like an item as well. This can come in handy during many fights and it is also an easy way to get one ups if you wish to get as many as you can. There is a one up trick in the game that is quite hard to pull off but if you can do it you can mine the 1 ups for hours. I did this all the time as a kid just because it involves bombs and explosions. I enjoy those things, as well as some extra lives. I could not find it again but I am sure someone knows what I am talking about. The game also includes what I like to call the Dark World. You find a potion (found by over tipping some plants) and this takes you to a screen just like your own to find a one up or coins. This is pretty nifty as some of these lead to a secret exit that can make the game beatable in a shorter amount of time. Though you will not have problem beating the game already as it is fairly easy depending on whom you like to play as, and it also only has hard boss fights. I like the inclusion of different bosses than just Bowser. I also like how you can get a star by collecting a few coins and you also have a life bar. This is also the first Mario to have a life bar the next being Mario 64, man this game was full of firsts. Because of that this makes the game feel very fresh and different as opposed to the Lost Levels which is the actual direct sequel to Super Mario Brothers.
One of the best parts about this game is the excellent sound design. The game takes the level of awesome music set by the first game and brings it a level higher. I can not get the menu screen tune or the start up tune or the first level tune out of my head! Not to mention many others. This game has some of the best music in any Mario game that I have ever played. The game has many upbeat anthems that make you feel happy as you are playing through the game. Even some of the hard parts (which are quite rare) have good tunes. I especially like the boss fight music for each stage; though it may be the same the music is very simple and devious at getting in your head and not getting out. I recommend playing the game if not for the game itself but just the fact that the music is so darn good. If you like 8 bit music this is the game for you, eat your ears out? Though I cannot say the same about the sound effects, many of them are not that great. I do have to say that they still give you that typical Mario feel but just the fact that it did not give me the same feel as the music made me a bit sad. Though the sounds are still excellent as far as some other games go.
Graphics: 8 – The game looks quite great though I have to say that I am not a fan of the backgrounds a lot of the time they look quite ugly just being like playing the game in a large blue hole.
Sound: 9 – The game has some of my favorite Mario tunes that are in any game. Maybe even some of my favorite 8 bit music. The game is just filled with good songs. Though some sound effects are lacking.
Addictiveness: 7 – The game is a fun little romp through the mushroom kingdom. Though you will probably not want to play it again especially after you find out the end of the story.
Story: 3 – I have to rate this because there is technically a story in the game. I literally cannot say more than that or it will spoil the ending because the story is the ending. It’s there, not more or less.
Depth: 10 – Four characters. This is pretty un heard of as far as a NES plat former goes and that makes the game really deep. Then factor in all of the different throwing stuff and jumping and you have one heckuva game. No power ups though.
Difficulty: 10 – The game is easy. Though I have to say that it is not a bad kind of easy or a good kind of easy. I can say it makes the game a bit shorter to play through and it also makes the game a little bit more approachable for the kids.
Overall: 9.7 – I have to say that going back to the original was a struggle for me purely due to the graphics sucking a bit. But graphics do not make the game game play makes the game. So for that reason I give it 9.7/10. Go play it if you have not already.
You may have noticed that I made no mention of Doki Doki Panic. That is because I honestly do not think it is as big of a deal as many make it out to be. I can understand the older gamers feeling betrayed by the fact that it is almost the same as another game but for the newer generation it should not matter for that reason alone people should let the whole flame die. I have to say that if you judge them side by side they are very similar but they are both great games, if you prefer one over the other great, if not ok. They are the same in concept and practice but it just happens that they are both great. Get off that high horse and move on!
Well that was a very nostalgia driven review that I did not really plan on writing but I actually liked the way that it felt. I may or may not write another one like this but I am not entirely sure. I will say that with the Nostalgia glasses on it affected my score a bit but even with them off I still say that you should play the game. Go out have fun and,
Thanks for Reading!

Super Mario Bros. 2 (U.S.) review   IgorBird122
Here's a review by IB122, this review is on Super Mario Bros. 2 (U.S.), in this game, this isn't that bad and I know this game and Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan) created a lot of confusion with the titles and the Japanese though that Super Mario Bros. 2 was a little too difficult to be played by none-Japanese people and instead, we got a game from Yume K?j?: Doki Doki Panic, just replace the playable characters as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach and boom, you got Super Mario Bros. 2 (U.S.).
The Graphics:
The Graphics isn't the greatest in the game, but it's alright for the NES, although some parts do get a little glitchy and a little flickering here and there so it's hard to defeat an enemy. For other parts for the game, it's all pretty nice like the background and foreground is pretty great for the NES. Some of the veggies you pull out from the ground is also great as well and the enemies looks really good, but the mini-bosses in each world and Wart looks really great. For the character spites, they look pretty good for the NES, although some of the playable character's are a little bit off but this being an NES version it's seem pretty ok.
I give this a 7 out of 10.

------
The Sound/Music:
The Music in this game isn't bad but the only thing is that they're 4 different songs on here (Overworld, cave/vase/fort, boss battle, and Wart's battle) and I think more should of been added into this game, although even with 4 songs, they all sound pretty impressive though. As for the sound, the sound effects are pretty alright to, like jumping, picking up stuff, climbing, and all that, although some sound effects does found a little off like the picking stuff up and throwing, so the game don't have the best sounds effects.
I give this a 6 out of 10

------
The Addictiveness:
This game is pretty addicting even with the graphics and Sound / Music, I've been playing this game for a long time (since around 2000) and I first started this game on the All-Stars release and when I was searching this game and I played this game on a different site (before I came to Vizzed and played it) and it was pretty good to play, and even know this ain't as addicting as Super Mario Bros. 1 or 3, but I can say, this is a pretty addicting game nonetheless.
I give this a 9 out of 10.
------
The Story:
The Story in this game is that this is part of a dream that Mario is having for an adventure in Doki Doki Panic, but the characters are Mario characters instead. What you do is that you fall into Subcon (What the world is called) and you notice that all the creatures have all turned against you all due to Wart who you have to face at the end (Yes, this is the first non-Bowser Mario game), but first, you have to go though 7 worlds in order to face against him, and every world, you have to beat some bosses from Wart's army like Mouser, Tryclyde, and all them. Once you defeat Wart, you can restore Subcon back to normal, but then you realized that all that was from a dream that Mario was dreaming.
I give this a perfect 10 out of 10

------
The Depth:
The Depth is pretty good, you got 7 worlds with a total of 20 levels (3 levels in 6 worlds and 2 in the final level), with 20 of those levels, you got a lot of paths to take because some levels only has one path and other levels got a secret path to take to get to the boss quicker, and in some levels, you got some warp vases (like in the first Super Mario game with the warp pipes). Also in this game, you see a number of enemies make their debut into the series although only one enemy was seen in future games and those were the Shy-Guys. Not just in the levels, you also can choose from 4 different characters to play onto each of those levels so whenever you're at a point that you need another character (like need to get higher or needs faster speed, you can just choose another character in the character select screen.
I give this a 8 out of 10.
------
The Difficulty:
The Difficulty is very hard, even for experience Mario players, some of the levels can be quite difficult to pass the first time so it's going to take a whole lot of practice and patience to beat each of the levels in this game so it's pretty much trial and error when playing in each of them, and the enemies can be all over the place and can cause you to loose a life if you're not careful in some levels, especially the ice world where you can die instantly. It's not just the gameplay, it's also depending on the character you select, some has their advantages and disadvantages like with Luigi, he's can jump a little higher, but his strength isn't that high (slower veggie pulling), and Toad has higher strength but his jumping isn't that good, so it all depends on who you select. So, Super Mario Bros. 2 (U.S.) isn't the most hardest game I've ever played, but it is up there though
I give this a 9 out of 10
------
Overall:
Overall, I'm not why people call this game a rip off from Yume K?j?: Doki Doki Panic, to my mind, I think this is a pretty good game nonetheless, Just think of it that Doki Doki Panic was a Japanese only game and they made this game from that game and just replaced the characters so pretty much, we're playing Doki Doki Panic, but we end up getting the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 in 1993 with Super Mario All-Stars.
Overall, I give this game a 8.5 out of 10.

The underrated Mario game   totaldramaman2
Overall - 9.1
Super Mario Bros. 2 is one of the most explorative and underrated NES games ever. A lot of people say "The Lost Levels are alot better we should have got those" or "This is just Doki Doki Panic with Mario slapped on it". Honestly, I don't get why you're being like this. Nintendo wouldn't have released it if it wasn't so close to being a Mario game originally. This game has great graphics, sound, and gameplay, so I don't know what you're complaining about. SMB2 is awesome.
Graphics - 9
The graphics are great. They're not the BEST NES graphics, but they're still up there. This game took full use of the 3-colors-per-8 bit-sprite rule. The Albatosses have SIX sprites. The bosses are animated good, and the scene at the end (where Mario is in bed, sleeping) Looks almost like it was hand-drawn. My only complaint is: WHY IS TOAD BLUE?!?!
Sound - 10
The music in this game is very catchy, and unique. The sound effects are not repitive, unlike some of the crappy games I've reviewed. This music is composed by Koji Kondo, the man who made the classic Mario theme. The final boss music always reminded me of the CastleVania death theme.
Addictiveness - 9
The way that these levels are so big and so diversegive the game a feel that coud only be replicated by a 3-D game, or an overhead game. But it's not. It's a side-scroller. With doors, mazes, and puzzles, this game is exploration-based in so many ways, it's undescribable. Every time I replay the game, it feels like a fres, new, experience.
Story - 6
This game's story is weird. Here's me trying to explain it: Mario has a dream about going through Subcon and saving it from Wart. He goes on a picninc with Luigi, Toad, and Peach to talk about his dream. He went in some random cave and opened a door, and he saw exactly what happened in his dream. *plays through game* PLOT TWIST! The game was actually a dream. A dream inside a dream. Paradox, much?
Depth - 9
As I've said before, this game is full of puzzles, mazes, and platforming. It;s a really big game, and I don't even think I'VE explored all of it. The enemies, bosses, and unique character abilities are just some of the amazing things in this game. I'm sure this could of been turned into a 3-D game. I cross my fingers that a Super Mario 3D Land 2 will be made, and that it will have this game combined with 3-D elements.
Diffuculty - 6
Although this game is fun, it is hard. I seem to have a bit more trouble with this game than usual, but it has some difficult parts. Some hard parts are when you have Bob-ombs, the Mushrooms in World 6-2, and the Trouter/log jumping in 5-1 (or is it 5-2?) Either way, this game is a bit challenging, but nothing major.
Conclusion
This game is awesome, but it is underrated beyond all belief. I hope that one day, people wise up and see the greatness is Super Mario Bros. 2. This isn't one of my favorite Mario games, or one of my favorite side-scrolling games, but it's one of my favorite NES games. If only everybody appreiciated this game like me.

  sonicthehedgeho..
Ah Super Mario Bros. 2  I remember when I first played this game I thought it was amazing for it's time and thought it was an amazing sequel to the cult classic Super Mario Bros because at the time I was only 6 and I didn't know about the Super Mario Bros 2 on the Japanese Famicom so I considered it to be the sequel to the first game. Either way even now I still love the Super Mario Bros 2 that we got here in North America and I actually prefer it over the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2 even thought it was a copy of the game Doki Doki Panic from Japan I still liked it as it had a new story and new gameplay to it which made it more fun to play. The really funny thing about this game is the ending but we will talk about that later in the review. So without further ado let's get a started!
Graphics: 10 out of 10
You can just tell from starting this game that the graphics have taken a huge step up from the first Super Mario Bros game as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach all show lots of quality in how they look compared to how they look originally even the enemies themselves have alot more facial features and moving/attacking features. The backgrounds and objects also have alot more visual detail as well as features to them such as having to pluck the vegetables out of the ground to throw them towards the enemies. The mini-bosses also have alot more detail added to them as you can clearly see when they are going to attack, for example with Birdo you know she is going to attack when she opens her mouth and prepares to shoot an egg out of it so you can tell that this game had alot more visual effects added to it. Great job so it earns a perfect 10 out of 10
Sound: 7 out of 10
While there are only 3 songs in this game so that's why I took of 3 points but with how great the songs are I consider that at least at 7 points. Now the three songs that play are: the song in the overworld of the game, the song for the mini-bosses in the game, and the final boss music in the game. The songs are really great as the overworld theme is like a feeling of adventure is a strange place and really sets the mood of the game right, the mini boss theme gives you a feeling of distress where you feel you have to beat this mini-boss and keep moving on towards the end, the final boss theme gives the feeling that after all the tough battles you've faced you're finally ready to take down the main point of evil in this game and it makes you feel powerful and ready to fight. So this deserves at least a 7 out of 10 even though there are only 3 songs in the game.
Story: 10 out of 10
The story of this game is kind of interesting with how the put it together as basically when you start the game up and select your character (Mario, Toad, Luigi, Peach) you fall from the sky and finally onto ground where you see a single door and once you enter through it you see a land with mysterious enemy's all around for example: Shy Guys, Mouser's which are Mouse mini-bosses with bombs, Ninji's, and Birdo's which are the bosses in a few levels each world. The main point of the game is to go and defeat the main point of evil in the land a giant frog named Wart, YEAH that's right BOWSER isn't the main villain of the game that is definitely a good change made to this game so you're not finishing Bowser off again. Now you remember when I said this game is interesting how they put the story together well you'll see what I meant now because after you beat Wart the final boss of the game you see a little credit roll with Mario and everyone else waving in celebration that the land is now save but then you see that Mario is asleep in bed and everything that happened was just a dream he had and the celebration was showed in a little story bubble over Mario's head. It's very funny when you see the ending and see that Mario is asleep cause it's like "wow you sure had the celebration done fast". It is a very great and interesting story which makes you interested in the game and makes you want to keep playing and finish the game so this once again earns a perfect 10 out of 10.
Difficulty: 7 out of 10
Super Mario Bros 2 on NES isn't the hardest game on the NES but it can be annoying and hard at some parts in the game as you can have multiple enemies that will come and gang up on you so you really have to move fast and think about your attacks before you actually rush in and try to finish off your enemies, if you rush in and just start attacking without any thought at all I can guarantee that you will either lose a life, fall into a pick, or barely even survive at all. One of the main reasons why the difficulty is higher is you only start of with 2 hit points and I think the maximum that you can have is 4 and the only way to earn more hit points is to get a magic potion and use it to make a door appear and hopefully a mushroom will be in there if there is one in there then you can grab it and you'll earn an extra hit point. However once you complete that level it will revert back to only 2 hit points at the start of the next level. If you take the time to understand the layout of the levels and the enemy's as well as choosing which character will help you out the most in the level you'll be playing since all 4 of them have different qualities which are (Mario= Normal Speed, Normal Jump), (Luigi= Slow Speed, High Jumping Ability's),
(Toad= Poor Jumping, Normal Speed, and fast plucking of vegetables/plants),
(Peach= Slow Speed, Can levitate in mid-air for a few seconds after jumping). So with all the choices you have to choose which person will benefit you the most which does make this game slightly easier so a 7 out of 10 is what I'm giving the difficulty level of this game.
Depth: 9 out of 10
The game is 7 worlds long each having 3 stages per world EXCEPT for world 7 which only has 2 stages so basically 20 levels in the entire game which you're probably thinking "wait a minute this game is even shorter than the first game on the NES and the Super Mario Bros 2 from Japan on the famicom" In which you are correct it is shorter however with it's difficulty it does make this game last longer and it will take a while for beginners of this game to beat and if you're an expert at this game it still will take a good chunk of your time away while you play the game so either way if your good or bad at this game it still will take some time to beat. Just like the first game on the NES and the second game on the famicom there are warp zones hidden out through some stages in the game which are: #1 = World 1 level 3 where you have to find a potion the go all the way to the right side of the screen where you should see a vase, use the potion and enter the door and once your inside go down the pipe and you will be transported to World 4, #2 = World 3 level 1 where you have to go through the door to the large waterfall with all the clouds and then jump down and land on the platform in the center and enter afterwards to do the same thing you did in World 1 level 3 by using the potion and entering the vase which will take you to World 5, #3 = World 4 level 2 where you have to progress through the level normally until you reach a door that's sitting on a cloud and their is a black whale underneath it, once you are there you have to go to the left of the screen to get a potion and then continue to the right until you see a vase once you are there use the potion and be careful as their is very little space to move and once you enter the vase you will be warped to world 6, and finally #4 = World 5 level 3 you're going to want to choose Luigi or Princess Peach as you need a person that jumps high to be able to reach the vase anyway when you start the level continue through the level normally and right when you go up the ladder you should see the vase right away go and jump up there and there will be a potion that you can use and do that same thing as the last 2 times go down the vase after using the potion. Whew that was a mouthful anyway this game does have alot of time that you can put into it and alot of things to find so I'm going to give this a 9 out of 10.
Addictiveness: 8 out of 10
This is a game that I had when I was around 9 years old for the Super Nintendo on the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge and I loved playing this game as I liked the idea of being able to pick up your enemies and throw them into other enemies and I wondered why they never thought about that before but like I said a million times already it was only the second game in the series so a change was probably a good thing. One of the main reasons why I think this game is so addictive is the fact that you are able to choose between four different characters before entering a level and each of them are different in their own way which adds a nice touch to the game. Plus with all the new enemy idea that they had with having to throw the eggs that the birdo's shoot out of their mouths or having to throw the bombs back at the mouser's in other levels in the game it just give you that feeling of power and happiness inside. So if you're looking to pick this game up or play it on vizzed then I would suggest it as it is very addictive in my own opinion so an 8 out of 10 is the right rating for addictiveness to me.
Overall I don't see why people look down on this game so much, I mean yes it was a clone of Doki Doki Panic but is that really a bad thing? If you think about it all games released in North America by Nintendo are clones as they all are made in Japan first and released here later. But I'm not here to argue about why people like or dislike this game I'm here to give my thoughts about this game and I'd have to say I'm glad we got this game and we got the real super Mario bros 2 in America anyway. Ahh I think it's time for this review to come to an end and now I'm going to go fall asleep <---- (Just a joke)  just like how Mario was doing throughout this game.

8.4
a game you should cut some slack for   ender44
As I said in my review of Zelda 2, humans seem to have a thing against change. I like change though, and I don't understand why this game gets so much hate. What is so bad about change? People talk about how different it was for the series. But guys, it was the second game, there was no precedent for how it should work. But yes, the original super Mario bros 2 was INCREDIBLY difficult, so we instead got a copy of doki doki panic with Mario characters tacked on. Well, on with this review thing.
Graphics: Probably the one part of this game I just don't like. The graphics actually look a little blurry. The characters look pointy in some parts, though the enemies look alright. The characters animate well enough, though again they look blurry. The maps actually look really good and I enjoy them very much. The backgrounds, like with other Mario games can get a little bland, though I do like them quite a bit. There are also a few objects such as rolling logs and waterfalls, which animate decently. I am kind of disappointed with these graphics though, as they barely(if at all) beat the first Mario game.
Sound: This game has at most 3 songs. That is really disappointing even though I do like them. Good or not, this game could really use some more variety. So, 4 points have been deducted from the sound part.
Addictiveness: despite the review so far, I really do like this game. The general change of pace will make you want to play it more than some of the other Mario games. It has many characters that you will want to try and I can be sure you will want to play it more than once.
Story: I give Mario a lot of crap for its story. Because it really follows the same formula every time. This part right here is why I like this game more than some of the other Mario games. This game-though the only real reason it has a different story is because it technically isn't a Mario game-has a good story. It involves you trying to defeat the frog king named wart, nice name man.
Depth- There are 20 levels, spanning 7 worlds. And unlike nearly every single Mario platformer game, you have four characters, each with different stats. There is definitely a lot to do in this game and you will have your hands tied playing it. On top of that, there are also tons of secret passages and rooms you can find. There are also tons of weapons to use, as well as many new enemies.
Difficulty: This game actually throws some difficulty your way. There are some difficult platforming segments, some parts that will trip you up, some levels that are specific to a few characters in terms of bring easy or hard, and some bosses that will give you multiple game overs. I like the fact that Nintendo actually showed some difficulty in this game, and wish they would show it in some others.
Overall, I wish some people would stop giving this game so much flack for being different, different is good, I like different. I hope you have fun with it.

Super Mario Bros. 2 Review   luigi25

Super Mario Bros. 2 was released for the NES in October 1988. It is based off of a game that was released in Japan around the time called Doki Doki Panic. The game that was supposed to be released as the sequel for the original Super Mario Bros. game was never released in America because of its difficulty. Instead, Doki Doki Panic was reworked into the game that we know today as Super Mario Bros. 2. Super Mario Bros. 2 is one of those games that I grew up playing as a kid 5 years after its release in the fall of 1993. I enjoyed this game quite a lot but found it to be a lot different from the other games in the Mario series.

The setting is odd as well as the gameplay mechanics in this Mario game. I also found it interesting how you could play as other characters besides just Mario. Luigi was available in the first SMB but only in 2-player mode, and even then it was hard to play as Luigi very much in that game. SMB2 was the first time he saw that much action. Toad was now playable, and what was a real shock to me was that Princess Peach was now a playable character! This isn't an old NES Mario game that is as well known as Super Mario Bros. 3, but I think that Super Mario Bros. 2 is a special game in its own right.

Graphics 8/10: Super Mario Bros. 2 is where you start to see a lot of color and detail put into these old school NES video games. For once, the backgrounds seem to be more developed. I guess the background objects aren't that good in this game either, but they look better than they did in any of the other games before it. The sprites on the other hand are a lot more detailed by now. The characters have more facial expressions, and they are just better drawn in this game than in any of the other ones. Graphically, this is where Nintendo started making really good-looking games. Sure, this game still looks dated, but SMB2 is where the NES games started to finally look decent.

Music 9/10: Super Mario Bros. 2 has a nice collection of songs that are very enjoyable. About all the songs sound catchy and upbeat. Not only that, but this is a soundtrack that has a wide range of variety. The only issue I have with it is how the underground theme is used over and over. It is even played for the castle levels too. Other than that, the soundtrack of SMB2 is pretty much flawless. I love listening to the boss theme, and even Wart has his own final boss theme. I don't think many games were able to do this at the time. Most of the music for the SMB Super Show that I watched whenever I was in 1st grade came from this Mario game. I just wish they hadn't have reused the underground musical theme so much.

Gameplay 9/10: Super Mario Bros. 2 is a platforming game just like the one before it. However, it is a completely different type of platforming game than the first. The player has the option of playing as either Mario, Luigi, Toad, or the Princess. At the beginning of each level you have this option and once you have selected your character you can't go back. After playing this game for the first time, you discover each player has their own unique abilities. You learn which character is best suited for the level you are about to play before you play it. This is one option that I always enjoyed most about the design and layout of the second Mario game.

Mario is a character with normal jumping, plucking, and other abilities. Luigi can jump the highest, but he is awkward and the hardest to control. Toad is the strongest and can pull up vegetables the fastest, but he can't jump very high. Princess Toadstool picks up objects and vegetables the slowest and can't move very fast. However, she can float in mid-air briefly, and that comes in very handy on some of the levels that require precise jumping. So, every character has their own strengths and weaknesses which makes SMB2 stand out from all the other games. You have the option to use other characters, and that makes for a totally different experience than what I was used to at the time.

The mechanics of Super Mario Bros. 2 is also what makes it totally different. Enemies can no longer be killed by jumping on them. Not to worry though, they can now be picked up and thrown at each other. This can be done by jumping on them and hitting the B button. The is how you pick up vegetables to throw at your enemies as well. An area called Subspace can also be accessed by plucking up a magic potion and throwing it down creating a door you enter. Here, a Mushroom is usually found, around the same area where the potion was found, that increases your maximum health. Coins can also be found here to use in the slot machine matching games at the end of each level. Although, I found it pretty hard to win extra lives in these games. This is one of those sub-games that feels like pure luck instead of requiring any kind of skill.

The stages of SMB2 have quite a lot of variety with: palm trees, grass, waterfalls, caves, clouds, ice, stars, pyramids, quicksand, etc. There are a lot of cool new ideas, but it's not like every level is different. Still, many of them feel the same, and they also play the same theme for the: caves, castles, and underground areas. Things feel kind of repetitive, but this definitely isn't a dull game. I liked the character selection at the beginning of the levels as well as the plucking gimmick. There were some new ideas that were starting to take shape with this second game in the Mario trilogy.

Story 10/10: The story of Mario Bros. 2 takes place in the land of Subcon where Wart has captured the people of this land and trapped them in a vase. Mario had a dream about this the night before, and later that day he takes his friends to a door at this exact location from his dream and that's how they end up in the dreamland of Subcon. It doesn't take place in the Mushroom Kingdom at all. Wart is the main antagonist of this game and has a whole new army of baddies for this new sequel. This time, Mario is now joined by his younger brother Luigi, Toad, and the Princess. Nintendo definitely took the storyline in a different direction for this sequel, and I really liked how it is unlike any of the other games in the series. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show even borrowed a lot of ideas from this game's plot.

Content 8/10: Super Mario Bros. 2 contains a total of 20 levels. This is less than the original game, but these levels are longer than those of the first game. Not only that, but most of them also have their own theme. World 1 is a Grass World. However, worlds 2 and 6 are Desert Worlds. World 3-1 takes place in a waterfall with clouds, and 3-2 takes place inside a cave. World 4 is an Ice World (something new at the time for a Mario game and used again in SMB3, SMW, etc.). World 5 takes place at night, and finally, world 7 is a Cloud World with Wart's Castle located in the sky. I wish that worlds 2 and 6 could have been different, but there still is some variety with the levels of this game.

It was also kind of hard for me to finish Super Mario Bros. 2 on NES when I was a kid. It's a game that takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete. You can't just quit and leave the NES turned on! I liked how Super Mario All-Stars had a save system, but that isn't in this game. This was quite a long haul with the second and third games. The second one does have a lot to it, but it's not as long as SMB3. Nowadays with today's save systems finishing these games aren't a problem, but back then, it was hard to sit down and do this.

Difficulty 9/10: I think there are still a lot of issues with the difficulty of Super Mario Bros. 2 like with the first game. The NES version is pretty hard. I felt like it was damn near impossible to earn extra lives in the bonus games at the end of the levels. This was just a game based on luck. You could take more damage in this game by finding Mushrooms in the Subspace areas. These Mushrooms gave you more health points. There are checkpoints on the levels, but these levels are longer. There are also continues, but you only get 2 of them! Why? Not only that, but they take you back to the beginning of the world.

After using up your continues, you have to restart the whole game which is a lot to do! The NES version of this game is playable, but I had a hard time with it. I beat the All-Stars version before I beat this one growing up in the early 90s. This isn't an impossible game, but I still thought it was pretty hard with the limited continues and few chances at extra lives. I got better with it over time, but this is a game that isn't good to beginners. It's easy now because I've played it a lot, but most newcomers will have a hard time beating this version of SMB2.

Overall 8.8/10: I like Super Mario Bros. 2 a good deal more than the first game. I feel like about everything is an improvement. This isn't my first Mario game, but it is one from my childhood. I didn't play this one until later on, and it felt totally different. It's odd how Bowser isn't in this game and how it takes place in Subcon with Wart as the antagonist. He never appears in any of the other games. The plucking ability took some getting used to too, but it is pretty fun. The levels are different, but not like the way they were in the third game. By now, things were starting to improve with the Mario series and with NES games in general.

Review of classic Mario game (Super Mario Bros 2)   tornadocam
Mario and his friends are back for this adventure.
Graphics: 8.
The graphics are much improved over Super Mario Brothers one. Mario and Luigi have a more defined shape and sprints. It seemed like the first game the sprints were lacking. The backgrounds are nice for a 8 bit system. The underground levels are also nicely done. I also like how the veggies swing to the music. The only thing that keeps this from being a 10 is sometimes it seems like the game lags some. I often play as Luigi and it seems like sometimes his sprints and controls are lagging just a bit. I guess that can be expected for a 8 bit system. But Super Mario Brothers 3 did not have that problem. The other characters sprints and controls seem to be fine.

Sound: 8
The game has very good sound. The tune has a nice beat to it. The underground music makes a player think they are in a dungeon. Also it is kind of funny how when enemies are thrown into enemies how it makes a unique sound. When the player picks up a pow block and throws it makes an earthquake sound. The only thing about the sound is there are only two music tunes to this game. The music is good but for some players they may get tired of hearing the same tune over and over again. So that is what keeps this from getting a higher rating.

Addictiveness: 8
I find this game to be addictive mainly because you can chose to play as 4 characters in the game. I got this game when I was 4 years old and I still enjoy playing it today. Sometimes it is fun to play with different characters. Mario and Luigi are my favorites.

Story: 8
Unlike other Mario games Peach does not get captured in this one. Anybody that has played Mario games know that is a rare. The story is creative so it was nice how it was done. Reading from the instruction manual is were the player will get the plot of this game. Basically Mario dreams that he hears citizens of  a world calling him that is in distress,. The people in the world in distress tell him "please help us the evil wart has taken over, and cast a spell, Remember Wart hates Vegetables". Mario goes on a picnic with his friends and tells them his strange dream. To his surprise he hears the same call from help and sees the mysterious door in front of him. His friends enter the door. Okay the story is creative despite their being now Koopas or no Bowser; so that is why it gets a decent rating.

Depth: 7
The Depth of this game is not as good as Super Mario Brothers 3. The game is not as big as there is only 7 worlds, that are short,  and shortcuts can be taken so that cuts the rating down. Still the game makes up for it because the player can chose 4 characters to play with: Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach. All of them have their weakness and strengths. It is often fun to go through each game with a different character. The bonus game you get to earn lives is nice. However unlike other Mario games there are not a lot of items to earn or win. So that takes the rating down.

Difficulty: 6
Okay here is were Super Mario Brothers 2 suffers the most. Unlike other Mario games this one is not too difficult to beat. Players can take shortcuts to bypass the most difficult world. Still I gave this game a moderate difficulty for a few reasons. First time players will find the enemies might be hard to dodge especially the flying ones. There is one world that is difficult as it requires creativity to clear. And two of the world bosses can be tricky to beat. But even with those  the game is not difficult. Once a player learns how to get over the traps defeat the bosses the difficulty just does not seem to be there compared to other Mario games. So yeah this probably one of the easier Super Mario games.

Overall: 8
This is a solid game despite the negatives it is fun to play through. The graphics are okay the story is okay. The thing to note is that Nintendo did a good job sailing this as a Mario game. Here is were I am going with this. This game was borrowed from a Japanese Nintendo game called DokKi Dok Panic with all the levels being the same. Nintendo replaced the players in the Dokki Dok game with Mario characters. They changed the story to make it more appealing. There is no Bowser or koopas in this game. However some of the Mario enemies were introduced in this game such as Shy Guys, Ninjas, and Birdo that have become mainstays. Still this game ended up being a huge hit. I got this game when I was 4 years old. I played it then and I still play it now. This game has been remade to fit different systems. So even though there is not koopas in this game; it is still a good game. I recommend this game especially to those playing Mario for the first time.

I know, its not really Super Mario, but I like it!   endings
Super Mario Bros 2. Not the actual one they got in Japan, its the American version. Its decidedly different, and explains itself only at the end as to why none of the other games of this series are like it (and not the real reason -its a palette swap).
Graphics: 7
The wait between Mario games felt like forever. And the jump up from the first game with Mario's pointy nose to this one with his more cartoony, rounded features was just great.  Nintendo wisely used all the characters we knew, the princess is here, Luigi is not living in his brothers shadow anyone - he stands on his own. And total wallflower Toad, who did almost nothing in the first game except disappoint you, would end up becoming my favorite character in this game.
The enemy characters really pop, and are great looking. The snake with the giant bug-eyes. The Snifit with his gas mask. The endearing Pokey, who just doesn't care if you jump over him or pull him apart.  Boss are bigger (yet not big enough) and somewhat impressive. Many get reused, but this is still a step up from the first game and its one repeated boss.
The backgrounds suffer majorly here though. They are often plain colors and without much detail. Its so flat and boring. For games at the time, this was not common - and I could name several 1988 NES games that had great background art.
Sound: 9
There is probably only 8 tracks in this whole game. But fortunately, like the original game - these are great tracks. They almost never become annoying (almost.. by world 7 I was done with the overworld music), and are super catchy. You could play me a second of any of these songs, I'd probably guess it.
That being said, I felt they could have done more. The weakest tune might have been the boss music, for me , it just repeats too easily.
Addictiveness; 8
This is a fun game, and you can just run right into it, changing characters willy-nilly, you can play straight through or use the warp tunnels. There was a lot of options here and it took no time for people to get used to the new jump and pluck strategy of attacking. The choice of character was just dandy, you could play to your own strengths and style.
Story: 4
Ok, this is where the game's Frankenstein hack-job of turning Doki-Doki into Super Mario Bros 2 falters. You were in the Mushroom Kingdom right, so now theres almost no mushrooms in the game (they are invisible). In this, you are in dreamworld. Um. Ok. Where are the dreams you enter? I don't get how this land of waterfalls, deserts and mice with bombs is anyone's dream? The only thing that ties the story together is the ending.
Depth: 8
You have the unique ability to jump on top of your enemies, and it doesn't hurt you. Therefore, you can use them to ride over dangers, you can grab potions that open up a shadow area that can find you extra life meter or coins for playing the extra life game at the end of a stage. The bosses take the pull and grab aspect into account, and often have to use their own attacks against them. There is an enemy who uses a magic carpet you can ride. Some pots contain a snake that will pop out, and you can just pull him out before he tries to surprise you!
Some of the touches of mario bro's past game are still here. The warp pipes are back (although not pipes anymore) and this adds complexity. Skip over the stages you don't like!  The mushrooms are hidden on the stages (2 each) and if you find them it will increase your life for that round only. The invincibility star returns. Its a lot of new things, but they added in just a touch of old to make you feel comfortable.
The characters each play differently. Princess Toadstool can levitate. Luigi can jump the highest, and there are some stages only he can reach all areas. Toad can pick things up the fastest, making him powerful at getting extra lives, and defeating some bosses.
Difficulty: 5
Its definitely easier than other Mario games, but this also feels because now enemies can be ridden and you just aren't as in as much danger. There are no levels with giant fish that swallow you - or flying cheep cheeps that can take you out in one hit. It only requires you to learn its quirky attack mechanics, and perhaps some of the long flying parts on the last levels, but this game is kind of a snap.
Overall: 8
While not even a real Mario game, this game is very fun and easy to get into. Yeah, you wonder where the Goombahs are, the Piranha plants. But you didn't mind so much because this gave us lovable Shyguys and pesky Snifits, and adorable Ninjis. These black-sheep characters were put into other mario games and made this series canon.

Mario's Worst Platforming Adventure   gamerforlifefor..
After Nintendo saved the gaming industry by making Super Mario Bros, they decided they needed to make a sequel. In Japan, this sequel is what's known in North America today as Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels. However, Nintendo of America felt that The Lost Levels would be too difficult for American audiences to handle. (I'll admit though, it's an extremely tough game) So, Nintendo of America decided to do their own sequel, which involved getting rid of the 4 playable characters from the Japanese game Doki Doki Panic and replacing them with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad and calling it Super Mario Bros 2. The result of this was what's in my opinion the worst Mario platforming game of all time. Why do I feel this way? Well, I'll explain my reasoning with this review.
Graphics: 6/10 If there's one good thing that came from Super Mario Bros 2, it's the character models, aside from Birdo. That thing looks Mario almost looks as good as he does in Super Mario World for the SNES, which is very impressive seeing that this game is 8 bit and Super Mario World was 16 bit. Luigi and Toad look impressive as well, but Peach still looks terrible with her brown hair. I was glad when she finally got remade. Anyway, While the characters look good for the most part, a lot of the levels don't look very impressive at all. The desert levels are the only ones that caught my attention. All the other levels are very generic. The graphics for Super Mario Bros 2 are mediocre, but most of the character designs are really good other than Birdo, so I'm giving the graphics a 6.
Sound: 5/10 The soundtrack for Super Mario Bros 2 is nowhere near as catchy or memorable as the original Super Mario Bros. Also the music gets very repetitive as well. The main theme doesn't even come close to comparing to the classic main theme from the original. The boss theme in this game is extremely short and repetitive, and I can't even remember the rest of the soundtrack because it's so bland. Because of how unmemorable and bland this game's soundtrack is, I'm giving the sound a 5.
Addictiveness: 1/10 Normally, this is the category where Mario games shine the most. Unfortunately for Super Mario Bros 2, the severe and unnecessary changes to the gameplay make Super Mario Bros 2 one of the most unenjoyable games in the entire series. Instead of beating enemies by bouncing on their heads and getting powerups to pwn your enemies, Super Mario Bros 2 has you picking up vegetables and throwing them at your enemies. It's either that or jump on top of an enemy, pick it up, and throw it at another enemy to kill 2 enemies at once. I really don't like this formula because it's tedious, it's nowhere near as satisfying or fun as squashing goombas by jumping on them or knocking koopas out of their shells by jumping on them. Another thing that makes this game so repetitive is the ridiculous amount of times you have to fight Birdo. That thing appears way too often. It seems like at the end of almost every level, you have to fight it again in different color variations. The fight isn't even that entertaining to begin with. All you do is throw her eggs or something else at it and boom, it's dead. If there's one good thing about this game, it's that there are more playable characters than just Mario. There's also Luigi, Peach, and Toad. The repetitive boss battles combined with the unnecessary changes to the gameplay make Super Mario Bros 2 one of the most unenjoyable platforming games I've ever played. If it hadn't been for there being 4 playable characters, I would've given the addictiveness a 1. Instead, I have to give it a 2.
Story: 3/10 Super Mario Bros 2 has Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad travel across a dreamworld to defeat the evil frog named Wart. The story isn't all that compelling or memorable, and the fact that Wart is the villain and Bowser doesn't even appear in this game makes Super Mario Bros 2 even less enjoyable than it already is. Also the fact that this game introduced Birdo is very disurbing. Overall, I say that this game doesn't have a good story or a good cast of villains, but there are worse storylines out there so I'm giving the story a 3.
Depth: 5/10 Super Mario Bros 2 has a decent amount of levels to play thorugh, and the can take awhile to beat, meaning that you'll be playing this game for awhile. It also has a decent amount of enemies to fight, even though the gameplay itself isn't very good. The game suffers from a lack of diverse bosses and the game doesn't provide a big challenge either. Overall though, Super Mario Bros 2 does provide some depth, so I'm giving this category a 5.
Difficulty: 3/10 A lot of NES games provide a major challenge. Super Mario Bros 2 is NOT one of those games. The boss fights are very predictable and they aren't difficult at all, and the levels themselves aren't very difficult either. This is one NES game that I never got a game over on. There are easier games out there, but I'm going to have to give the difficulty a low score of 3.
Overall Score: 3.5/10 Super Mario Bros 2 is not only my least favorite Mario platformer, but it's also one my least favorite platforming games of all time. With revamped gameplay in the worst possible way, a throwaway story and poor cast of villains, Super Mario Bros 2 is nothing compared to it's predecessor. I'm giving Super Mario Bros 2 an overall score of 3.5 out of 10.

Fun and Entertaining!!!   poopywyatt
Super Mario Brothers 2 (American version), is a fun and
entertaining game. The control is tight, the game play is fun, the music is
fantastic, and the colors are bright. The Irate Gamer did an entertaining rant
about this game, but as entertaining as his video was, I completely disagree
with his opinions. As a youth, we did not care if the game was really called
Doki Doki Panic with text and palate swaps of all the characters. For us, it
was the ability to play separately as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess. These
characters were not clones of each other, but each had his or her own strengths
and weaknesses.
Super Mario Brothers 2 is a side scrolling platform game.
You run either right, left, up or down to get to the end of the stage.
Sometimes there is a mini boss, sometimes not. All the stages are divided into
8 worlds, and there is a main boss at the end of the world. There are several
warp point scattered throughout so you can finish the game quicker. Unlike the
previous Super Mario Brothers from the vantage point of an American, you cannot
jump on an enemy’s head to kill them. In this game, if you jump on an enemy,
you just stand on their head! To kill them, they must walk off the screen, you
pick them up and throw them off screen, throw and enemy into another enemy,
throw a vegetable at an enemy, or get an invincibility start and touch an
enemy. There are day levels, night levels, air based levels, ice levels, and
desert levels. Eventually you make your way to a big from named Wart.
My friends, family, and myself had a blast playing this game
back in the day. Upon revisiting this game, I find that it still stands strong
as a game and has aged well.
Graphics: I think the graphics still hold strong today. Even
in the super HD updated versions, the graphics are relatively unchanged. They
are cartoony, bright, colorful, and easily recognizable. They are fantastic in
any generation.
Sound: The music is fun and catchy and fits the mood well. Good
job Nintendo!
Addictiveness: This game is very fun and I remember playing
this game over and over again with my friends. Currently, I did not find this
game as addictive, but no less fun.
Story: As typical with Mario games, not much story. I do not
remember the story well, other than you free some fairies after you beat the
last boss. But maybe it was just a dream.
Depth: You have four characters to choose from. Mario is Mr.
Average at all the skills of speed, jumping high, digging/picking up, and
jumping distance. Luigi can jump very high and remains in the air but is a
little harder to control in the air, and is a slow digger. Toad is the weakest
jumper, but can pick up/ dig things super fast, but can also run fast. The
Princess can’t jump very high, but can hover a long distance. She is the
slowest runner and slowest picker upper/digger. If you know what’s coming, you
can choose the most appropriate character for the situation. If you are on a
heavy digging level, Toad. Lots of jumping? Luigi or Princess. I have noticed
the Princess does well on the Ice Levels.
Difficulty: This game is not the most difficult. I had no
problem beating this game as a youth, or even now. But this game is not meant
for experienced adult gamers, but for children. I think the difficulty is where
it should be.
This game introduced a lot of game play mechanics and enemies
that have since become staples in the Super Mario Brothers universe such as
Birdo and throwing veggies at enemies. Playing this game is always nothing more
than fun and entertaining. You cannot go wrong with this game!

Super Mario Bros 2 Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 10
Super Mario Bros 2 on the NES is an awesome classical game to play.  I remember playing this all the time in the past and would never stop playing it.  In my opinion, this game is different compared to the first one and the third one.  The game play is so awesome.  I guarantee that this game is so much fun.
Graphics - 10
The graphics are great.  The only thing that I realized was that Toad is blue instead of red.  I do not mind that, I think he looks better in blue.  The effects in this game are great.  It is just like any other Mario game.
Sound - 10
The sound is awesome.  Just hearing the music while you are playing just makes you love the game even more.  The sound effects are what they sound like in any other Mario game, with the jumping and the throwing.
Addictiveness - 9
Like I said, I would play this a lot of times, so I would definitely play this a lot more.  It is just so much fun and it does not get old for me.
Story - 7
The story is kind of confusing because it is not what you expect.  There are four heroes in the game that you can be and you go and save something called Subcon (I have no idea what that is) from an evil toad-looking creature named Wart.  Usually, it would be Bowser, but in this game, it is Wart.  Kind of confuses everyone about that since they went right back to Bowser in Super Mario Bros 3, but it still is a good game.
Depth - 8
The game does not have much in it, but it still has some good things that make people want to play it.  First of all, you can be either Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Princess Peach.  The best part about this is that when you use them in one of the levels, you can choose the others in the other levels or you can just pick the same character you picked last time.  Another thing about it is that there is secrets that are just like the first one, where you can warp to a different level.  In this game, it is harder to find them.  I have not found any, but I do not care about them since I can at least beat the game.
Difficulty - 5
The game is not that hard.  I have beaten it about 3 times and I had no problem with it.  The enemies are easy and the levels are okay.  The only thing that is annoying is the head moving randomly in the level and you cannot get away from it unless you get out of the area.  It is annoying and that is probably the hardest enemy in the game.  The bosses are easy if you understand the way they fight.
Wrap Things Up...
Super Mario Bros 2 is a fun game to play.  I highly recommend trying this game out if you have not already.  The game is so much fun and I guarantee that you will enjoy it.  Play it now. :)

a good game but a bit of a lie   SuperCrash64
Before I get to this review heres why this game is a bit of a lie . The original Mario bros 2 squeal was released only in Japan  because Nintendo thought it was too hard for the us . So instead of A real Mario Bros 2 squeal. The Us ended up getting a hacked version of japans do key do key panic .Just with Mario characters. Such as Mario Luigi toad and peach.
Graphics Well as I said before This is a hacked version of do key do key panic .So these graphics are exactly the Same as do key do key panic which was decent for the 8 bit system.so graphics for the 8 bit version of Mario gets a 9. These graphics are pretty lazy
Sound Well everything was ripped off of do key do key panic so sound effects were good in that game there exactly the same here.so sound gets a 10
Addictiveness this game is fun even though its a texture hack I mainly enjoy it for its unique game play. So addictiveness gets a 10
Story  Gets a 6 it tells about Mario having a dream about someone calling him to come to the place to come save him. So story wise its almost the same thing as do key do key panic.
Depth  offers everything that do key do key panic offered including the frog boss. The only difference is Mario sleeping with the credits at the end.so depth gets a 10
Difficulty I didn't find Mario 2 hard at all its was fairly balanced game.controls worked perfectly as expected So difficulty gets a 5.
Final Verdict although it is pretty said only Japan got the real Mario bros 2 but this game is pretty fun .
I give the game a 8.0
I would give more depth but its mainly a hacked version of do key do key panic with Mario characters so I cant really say that much .More about this game
more reviews coming soon

Super Mario Bros 2 - Doki Doki Panic Reject   pacman1755
In this special review, I decided to review Super Mario Bros 2. This game is both pretty good, and pretty bad at the same time. Its good since its a sequel for Mario Bros, and it was fairly popular in the NES, I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem, is that its an unoriginal game. Its a rehash of another game called Doki Doki Panic which is from the Famicom system that was originally suppose to release for the NES, but it was never released outside of Japan. So they decided to put the game, mix the story up, put the faces of Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach on them, and slap the Super Mario Bros 2 logo on it, and bam! You got yourself a Mario 2 game. So let's begin the review.
DIFFICULTY: 6
Its not that hard at all. yeah, it has its difficulties, and yeah it has some different techniques to beat bosses and enemies. Instead of simply jumping on them, you instead find a plant area, or its grass like head, and pull out vegetables, and hurl them at the enemies. Yeah, that's something you want your kids to know. Don't eat them, kids, instead, throw them at animals! No wonder they didn't release it. :P Overall the difficulty isn't anything special, it pretty much only appears when you bump into the end of the level boss or world boss, so I wouldn't worry about the enemies or the level itself. Maybe the last level castle, but nothing you should get worried about.
DEPTH: 5
The depth is fairly long. Yeah its pretty long if you count the worlds. In total there are 7 worlds, and 20 levels total. So yeah, it's not THAT long, if you know the secret warps that is.
Here's a list of the bosses in the game.
Birdo: You might see this guy a lot. It should be pretty easy to kill it with throwing its eggs at it when spitted out. Most likely you will see it half the time at the end of the level.
Red Birdo: This guy is exactly the same person, only it spits out fire every once in a while, so watch out where you jump. Its all about timing. Again, 3 hits will kill it.
Green Birdo: This one is probably the toughest in its species. It does not spit out fire at all, it only spits out fire. Nothing more, nothing less. You need to find an object in the room to throw at the Birdo to kill it. again, it should be dead in 3 hits.
Mouser: A mouse type of bad guy, that throws bombs at Mario/Luigi/Toad/Peach. To defeat this guy, you need to grab the bombs he throws, and throw it back at him. Three hits should kill him.
FryGuy: That one fire enemy that attacks you by only touching you. Once you throw objects at it 3 times, it doesn't die. Instead, it falls to mini FryGuys and jumps around. 1 hit should squish them out of existance. Beware that the more you kill, the faster/higher they move. Watch out.
Tryclyde: Basically a Snake with 3 heads. Yeah, its straight from your wildest dreams of hell right here. It spits fire at you at any direction possible. Luckily there is an easy stradegy to avoid it, make a wall of your objects to throw, and throw the object over that wall to hit it. Should die in 3 hits.
Clawgrip: Basically your average crab on steroids with its attacks on you. Its pretty tough, I'd be cautious about it. Again, 3 hits should finish it off.
Wart: The King Frog of the game? I don't know, its a mystery if he's a king or not, he just has a cape and crown. In this final battle, it sits up on the corner and shoots out 4 bubbles of death at you. Easily avoidable, luckily. To kill it off, you need to catch the vegetables coming out of this machine in the room, and throw it in his mouth. Basically choking him out. I'm not sure how many exact hits it should kill it, but its more than 3. I'd guess maybe 5 or 7? Something in that range. It takes a bit.
Overall the game depth may sound very long, in reality, its not. If you know what to do, you should beat this game in one sitting.
STORY: 7
The story basically sums up to this: Mario is contacted through his sleep that this person's kingdom is in dire danger, and Mario, and his friends are their only hope to stop the madness and restore peace to its kingdom. So Mario wakes up and gathers Peach, Toad, and Luigi and they head out to find this Kingdom. They stumble upon this doorway, and they fall down to their new adventure. To sum it up, Mario is out to fight another battle that isn't Bowser this time, only a new enemy that is not enclosed to be Wart yet. Mario gathers his friends to help him along his adventure to save this unknown Kingdom.
ADDICTIVENESS: 8
Its pretty average in addictiveness, but I put it up in the higher rankings since its one of the pretty good classics of the NES, and I have a fun time playing it. Its a shame its only one player, or I would bump this up to at least a 9. Oh well. Overall I would play this for a good couple of hours if I set my mind to it. Its really fun, but the bad side is that only one player gets to play. Which sucks. In my opinion, I'd think that you would feel the same way, the game is fun, but it has its bad sides on it.
SOUND: 8
The sound is pretty cool, its repetitive though, which is pretty stupid imo. Yeah, I sound like a broken record right now with the "stupid" comments, but yeah, its kind of lame that they didn't have much on the sound track, but then again, its the NES days, they didn't have that much of a variety to offer. Look at Mario 1 and 3. They had only a hand full of games to play. Example Mario 1. They only had 4 themes. Overworld, underworld, water, and castle. That, and the you got the princess, and you beat Bowser themes. Mario 3 had a bit more, but you get the idea. Overall, the music isn't annoying one bit, it may be repetitive after a while, but its catchy and pretty legendary. If you know what I mean.
GRAPHICS: 7
They are mediocre at best when you count the overall graphics and creativity in the 8 bit world. Its okay since its 8 bit, I'm not expecting to be amazed when I'm seeing this in the game, but its a bit under average. I didn't see much creativity. Overall, I'm not too impressed on how they made the game with this. Yeah, its 8 bit but I expected better out of them. I'll give them credit though, they did what they could for the game. Its only 8 bit. They can only do so much with it.
OVERALL: 8.4
Overall, the game is pretty memerable for what its done for the business. It may be a rehash of Doki Doki Panic, but it could have been much much worse. I mean, look at some sequels to some games, some of them took a good game, and completely tarnished its reputation. Some of them made an embarrassment to the original game. It just sucked. This game didn't do that, thankfully. I enjoyed what its done. Great game.
Final Verdict: The game doesn't suck the life out of Mario Bros. It may not be the original Super Mario Bros 2 but it didn't completely disappoint our expectations. I liked it.
Do I recommend playing it? Yeah, its a good time killer and can be fun.
Thanks for reading.

The graphics of super Mario bros 2 are great, almost perfectly drawn!
The sounds are great, too! Gotta love the subspace music!
The story of the game is amazing, 4 heroes trying and succeed to free the subcon from evil, that's such a good story for a good game.
You won't be able to stop playing because this game will "keep your eyes glued to the Television"! One by one you play, one by one step will you get further each play.
The game can be hard at times, but there are 20 levels to get through with only 5 lives, but you only have 2 continues! :( If you lose your continues, guess where you have to go, Back to the title screen!
Overall, it is a good game, but it is hard sometimes, but I have never beat world 6-1 with warps, need more continues, infinite is good.
There's other things, like different characters having different abilites, I'll point them out:
Mario is the average character allaround.
Luigi runs slower than Mario, but can jump the highest, he kicks his legs so he falls slower. He plucks a little slower than Mario.
Toad runs really fast, he plucks the fastest, but jumps low.
Princess can float in the air at the peak of her jump for 1 second before she starts falling. She unfortuantly runs the slowest, plucks the slowest, but she's a little higher in jumping.
Wow, this game is great, and speaking of great, I can also review super Mario bros. 3 if you want me to.

Through a dream...   TanookiJosh
Overall rating: 8.5
Graphics: 9.0
The graphics are pretty good for an N.E.S. game. But then again, graphics don't make the game.
Sound: 9.5
Though the music isn't the greatest, it's still pretty good. The sound quality is great.
Addictiveness: 7.6
The game is fun, but not too addictive. I find myself playing it every few months or so.
Story: 8.0
I like dream worlds, and Mario and the gang spend their entire adventure inside one! You must save Subcon from an evil ruler named King Wart.
Depth: 7.0
The game is just an N.E.S. game so I wouldn't expect much. It contains seven worlds, but worlds 1,3, and 5 are grasslands. Also, 2 and 6 are deserts. 4 is snow, and 7 is clouds. so it's kind of like there's only 4 worlds. All together there are 20 levels, 8 bosses (not including Birdo, but including rematch bosses) and it's not too much but still fun. You also get to play as 4 characters: Mario- a normal type: Luigi- a jumping type: Toad- a speed type: Princess Toadstool- a flying type.
Difficulty: 6.0
So it is a challenge to beat this game. This game has 2 free continues, 1up games, and warp zones. So I rank this in the middle which is good.

Instant colorful classic   PD Man
Doki Doki Panic,or as we all know as "Super Mario Brothers 2" is an instant classic starring Luigi,Peach,Toad and,of course,Mario. With Luigi's agility and jump ability,we'll be able to trust him to reach in high places. With Peach's hover ability, she'll be able to reach far in her journey. With Toad's super strength,he'll be able to lend a helping hand. With Mario's all around classical skills,we'll be able to stay calm, knowing there's still a little something we're used to. Mario and friends try to stop the evil Wart while avoiding tons of obstacles along the way, like Shy Guys. Super Mario Brothers 2 is an instant classic everyone will enjoy everywhere.

Since the mario games are all taken down does anyone know a site we can play them on?
Lexatom 01-02-16 - 01:12 AM
This game is weird as crap, but I like it.
VizzedGuy111 10-15-15 - 03:04 PM
Quite a good game, a bit simple gameplay, a good system, and you know the word we all know, fun!

Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess are fun to play.

This game gets me so nostalgic.

 My favorite Mario Bros game
Vanelan 01-18-15 - 08:38 PM
This game is highly underrated. Even if its not canon, and a remake of Doki Doki Panic, its still a fun game.
rcarter2 02-03-14 - 11:27 AM
madison: The reason for the time removal was because I was testing something. I wanted to see if the delay in the game loading up was counted in the overall time. I decided not to resubmit my other time because I was going to beat it.
Richard geller 02-03-14 - 12:55 AM
Felicidades,Madison por tus records del primerísimo lugar tanto en super mario bros uno como en el dos en la categoria de speedrun. Ya solo te falta batir mi speedrun en super mario bros 3 para ser el rey de los super marios bros ????
jerryaberry 01-29-14 - 07:23 PM
Thanks madison. It's a deathless run but definitely one of the easiest routes using primarily the princess. Anyway, 15 min is just bonkers!
madison 01-29-14 - 02:19 PM
And nice new run, jerryaberry. Vastly improved over your previous one.
madison 01-29-14 - 02:18 PM
Hmm, rcarter removed his time. He must be scheming something. . .
jerryaberry 01-26-14 - 01:39 PM
Yeah those guys can make this speedrun super technical. I'm avoiding anything too crazy like that for now. In my last run I gambled A LOT on free lives to little avail. I didn't even need the lives!
rcarter2 01-26-14 - 12:34 PM
Just one stage is giving me trouble. Stage 6-2. Sometimes the Beezo's don't appear at the same time, which makes me fall. If I get through that level without dying, then I can have a chance at taking back the first place spot.
SacredShadow 01-22-14 - 03:25 PM
 poor rcarter :(
rcarter2 01-21-14 - 07:06 AM
I can get that time in under 16 minutes. I just have to do a flawless run. Thing is, the 2 parts where I died were parts I usually don't die on :(
madison 01-17-14 - 11:21 PM
Thanks, jerryaberry. My run is much less impressive than you think. I lost enough lives during it to get a game over!
jerryaberry 01-17-14 - 01:31 PM
Great entry madison. You're one of my favorite speedrunners particularly with Mario games (Although this isn’t exactly a Mario game). Anyway, glad to see you competing.
4444alex 01-06-14 - 04:10 PM
Love the game! I haven't played it for a long time.

 Princess is the best.

Haven't played this game in a long while.
8bitNESPlayer 07-09-13 - 06:34 PM
@RcKl3ssGamingHD, it's because it's based on the Doki Doki Panic game. The original SMB2 (in Japan) was so hard, so in USA they made this game version.
SuperCrash64 07-09-13 - 06:23 PM
lolol, You have to pick up items and throw them at enemies, the boxes are gone i believe, the coins are used for tokens I think..
RcKl3ssGamingHD 06-23-13 - 12:00 PM
ERRR HOW DO YOU KILL ENEMIES, AND WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE COINS AND BOXES???
