One of the best sonic games to date   ender44
Sonic and I have always had a weird relationship. I would go to being in love with the series, like when I played "Sonic adventure 2" and this game, to being all meh, when I played "Sonic R" and "Sonic 3D blast". Though, every time sonic fails me, I can always turn to this game. I will be honest guys, I have played this game much more than I could possibly be proud of. Sonic 3 was released in 1994, it and "Sonic and Knuckles" were supposed to be one game but they were split during development. It is a direct sequel to "sonic the hedgehog 2" and it introduces a character I have changed my thoughts about more times than I can count, Knuckles the echidna. Knuckles the echidna is a red echidna with gloves that have spikes at the knuckles, giving him his nickname.
Our good old friend knuckles makes his first appearance in this game. He lives on angel island and guards the master emerald.
Gameplay: Did you play the first two? You've got your answer. The first two games had controls that could end up a bit awkward. This game simply sports a more polished version of these controls. The controls are very smooth and I enjoy them. Sonic can go forward, backward, and he can jump, now don't get too overwhelmed yet, because the spin dash returns from sonic 2. You have the option to play as sonic, tails, or both. I will break it down for you. I explained sonic just now, so I will do the other two.
Miles "Tails" Prower: Our adorable little friend is back to help sonic. Tails' ability to fly gives you access to some puzzles that sonic himself would not be able to access, though this is short-lived, as Tails can only fly for a short amount of time before coming down. Other than that, he controls similarly to sonic.
Both of those crazy kids: You can have a second player connect to tails and play cooperatively. This player using tails will have the ability to pick up sonic.
Graphics: The game did a bit worse than I expected. I figured it would look quite a bit better. It appeared three years after sonic 1, and it simply sports a more polished environment. I by no means think it looks bad. The environments were beautiful, something that I had never actually seen achieved in a game this old. Even its direct sequel doesn't look as good. There are tons of colors that merge together to make a great zone, and it works out for each. Sonic however, does not look as good as I thought he would. He somehow got shorter than he was in the first games.
Sound: I'm a pretty big fan of this department.. The sound is a bit of a rehash from the first two, but again it is more polished and sounds a bit better. It takes on a sort of catchy tune that you really cant describe until you play it. Though, Sonic also has to make a sound when he jumps, and that sounds like it wouldn't bother you, but it gets really annoying by the second zone. Though, the game could have done some more. Take the angel island zone act 1 for instance. This level has blissful music, and then as it starts to get burned to the ground, you would expect some darker toned music. Nope, this level retains the same music, and while this is not a huge deal, I see it as a flaw.
Addictiveness: Didn't you read what I said in the beginning? I have beat this game so many different times. It holds me like a spell, and I just cant shake it. The classic gameplay and wonderful environments are way ahead of 1994. I have logged tons of hours into this game, and I think you will too.
Story: Starting directly after Sonic 2, Sonic uses the chaos emeralds he has to transform into his super-form. He then flies to angel island where he is ambushed and assaulted by our friend knuckles, who then steals the emeralds, bringing Sonic out of his super-form. Sonic gives chase to knuckles. Knuckles is tricked by Dr. Robotnik into thinking that sonic is going to steal the master emerald, the thing knuckles protects. Robotnik realizes he can use the master emerald to power his ship, the death egg, which was destroyed in sonic 2. Sonic encounters knuckles in almost every level, which will hinder Sonic's progress. At the end of the game, as Sonic fights Robotnik and defeats him. He leaves the ship as it is falling, and he and knuckles become a team, leading into the events of "Sonic and Knuckles". There is also another ending to this game, this ending being accessed by Sonic getting all of the chaos emeralds and transforming into  Super Sonic.
Depth: There are six zones in this game, with the addition of seven special stages where you can access the chaos emeralds. There are also. There are also six save files you can use. There are three character choices, each can be used to find special places. There is also multiplayer mode, you can use a computer to play tails, or have a second player play as tails.
Difficulty: This game should not give you too much trouble. There are some cleverly placed enemies and spikes, but its not like you will be given too many game overs. This game is pretty easy, the only times you might get frustrated are when you are trying to get 50 rings to access the special stages. I beat the game in about a week, and I doubt it should take you much more than that.
That's all for now you guys. I will be reviewing the sequel to this sometime this month, as I am deeming this month "Sonic month". This game is one of the best of its times, and I hope you have tons of fun with it.
See ya

“Sonic 3 presents an old enemy and a new rival!”   sonicthehedgeho..
With the evil doctor’s mechanical fortress ruined, Sonic and Tails decide to look for new adventures while flying on Tails airplane named “The Tornado”. As they were flying around on their quest they spot an island known as Floating Island, Sonic decides to speed his way over there to check it out by changing into Super Sonic...however; just as he approaches the island a new character named Knuckles the Echidna burrows himself out of the ground and smack his fist right into Sonic knocking him out of his Super Sonic form, wait.....WHAT!!! How is that even possible?! Due to this attack all of the Chaos Emeralds to drop to the ground and Knuckles collects them after having been deceived by Dr. Robotnik that Sonic as well as Tails are his true enemies when in actuality it’s the doctor, who turns out to be the real fiend behind the curtain. So now it’s the blue hedgehogs and two-tailed fox’s job to collect the Chaos Emeralds once again and stop Robotnik from achieving his goal, while avoiding that hot-headed echidna Knuckles through-out the adventure. Are you ready for this adventure? Are you prepared for the difficulties ahead of you? Can you stop the mad doctor from achieving his master plan Well...there’s only one way to find out by starting the game as well as the review.
Graphics: 10 out of 10
Compared to when I was first introduced to the Sonic the Hedgehog series with Sonic 1 & 2 on the genesis where I thought the graphics were alright but could be better. Sonic 3 took its fist, punched me in the eyes, and then what I saw afterwards (besides bright spots) from the game was breath-taking to say the least since its visuals were totally revamped and each with an extra touch to detail, where the pendulums that you swing on are actually held by vines from the wall or having to stand on a block of frozen snow to break through pillars of ice that would be otherwise unbreakable. Sonic himself also looks better in my opinion with a more detailed outward appearance especially when he turns into Super Sonic as before in the second game his fur would only turn yellow and his eyes would remain black compared to this game where he fur will turn yellow but this time he will have jade green eyes giving a bigger impression that he is strongly borrowing the power of the Chaos Emeralds in order to save this land known as Floating Island. Whether you’re traveling through the frozen landscape of Ice Cap Zone or hitting the pinball slots in Carnival Night Zone, I can assure that you’ll find every bit of this games graphics enjoyable so a perfect 10 out of 10 is awarded for the graphics of this game.
Sound: 9 out of 10
Just like its predecessors in the series, the music in Sonic 3 hold up very well among many people’s expectations and its tunes will surely pull you into the game as you experience that adventure that is just waiting to come along. When you’re in the Hydrocity Zone you get a nice jazzy feel of ambiance while you’re running on ground and through the water at certain points, As well as having a dark and evil feeling in the Launch Base Zone. The sound effects haven’t changed all that much from the past 3 Sonic the Hedgehog games (Including Sonic CD) so I would rate the sound as a 10 out of 10.......wait but why did I put a 9 out of 10 then? Well to be perfectly honest there is only one song I find to dislike a lot and that is the Super Sonic theme as it repeated way too often compared to Sonic 2’s version which did repeat yes of course but; it still went longer before it looped over again. Because of this I don’t find myself using Super Sonic in this game that much so I took off 1 point because of this giving the sound score in actuality a 9 out of 10.
Addictiveness: 10 out of 10
Oh my goodness this game is one of the reasons that I started liking Sega a lot more than how I did with their beginning two entries in this series and for several reasons. 1st it leaves off right where sonic 2 ended with Sonic flying away on the tornado along and him turning into Super Sonic, 2nd This game introduces a lot of new features such as Sonic’s new special attack known as the Insta-Shield which can be used to attack enemies that may be surrounding you by giving you a very short shield attack that destroys any of the badnicks that you attack with it. There are also more shields in Sonic 3 such as: electric, fire, and a water shield that will help you through certain environments however; with every advantage there will always be at least 1 disadvantage for example. If you were to go into the water with a fire shield then it will disappear or let’s say you have a water shield if you land on electricity or fire you will also lose it, and finally if you were to achieve and electric shield then end up falling into the water or fire it will be destroyed. Moving onto a different subject though; just like in Sonic 2 there is a multiplayer mode that you can play with a friend or go through 1 player with a friend controlling Tails. Plus having someone play as Tails actually helps out more in this game than in the previous game since Tails can carry Sonic for a few seconds meaning you’ll be able to reach higher places easier compared to before, saving you from wasting a lot of time and without any unnecessary hassles that might have occurred ahead in the level. Finally the last reason this game is so much more addictive to me than the earlier Sonic games on the Sega Genesis is that the special levels to earn the chaos emeralds aren’t as difficult and tedious, of course that doesn’t mean that they’re something you can sleep through and play without any effort either...because in later levels if you don’t plan out which path to move onto and how you progress through it then you might end up having to do some risk taking by jumping over red spheres (will take you out of the special stage empty handed) or jumping over white spheres (which will bounce you back or forward depending on where you’re hit from. Phew....all that bouncing around and talking about electricity has made this section go on so long and made me lose my breath (Just Joking...obviously), so now the rating that I’m giving the addictiveness of this game is a perfect 10 out of 10.
Story: 10+ out of 10
As I stated in the addictiveness section, this game takes place after the events of Sonic 2 in where Sonic has defeated Robotnik once again however; Robotnik has decided not to show his face of recently so our blue blur decides to go searching for an adventure to go on and comes across an island in the sky which is simply titled believe it or not “Floating Island”. When he arrives on the island a certain echidna decides to give him a nice welcome gift by punching him right in the face knocking him out of his super form and stealing the emeralds, Sonic starts to wonder “what the heck was up with that guy?” soon afterwards he spots badnicks on the island and immediately realizes that this vile work can only be from the evil mastermind we all know as Doctor Ivo Robotnik. Tails looks and Sonic as he states that they’d better move quickly if they want to stop this doctor’s evil plan, but; while they’re dealing with Robotnik...who is going to stop Knuckles from interfering? This story is also spilt in half for one main reason but I’ll be getting to that later in the review as chili-dog loving hero would say for skipping ahead in a review: “Woah now that’s way past uncool dude!”. So all in all this was my favorite story among the Genesis games era which give the story a 10 out of 10 just like in other reviews I would give it higher if I could but can’t so let’s a go onto the next part.....wait THIS IS a Sonic review why did I talk like Mario right there?! I guess I’m just being blasphemous in this review, ok seriously let’s move on now.
Depth: 8 out of 10
You’ve probably played Sonic 1 & 2 before playing this game...hopefully, and you may notice that this doesn’t seem as long of a game as you would expect since it is about the same length as the first game because it also has 6 zones with 3 acts. Most likely another thing that caught your eye is the ending to this game since it feels kind of unfinished wouldn’t you say? Well that’s due to that fact that this game was going to have around 14 zones with 13 of them having 3 acts, but due to hardware limitations they had to split the game into 2 different games with the first part being Sonic 3 and having the second part being a game known as Sonic & Knuckles finishing the complications left at the end of the third Sonic game on genesis. So I can’t really give this game a high score because of the amount of levels it has however; I can’t give this a bad score either because it was like I said limited to how much they could put into those games during the early 1990’s. To be fair I’ll give this the same rating that I gave Sonic 1 which is an 8 out of 10, now it’s time for the difficult part of this review.
Difficulty: 6 out of 10
Once again like its predecessor this game isn’t as difficult as the original entry in the series which I do prefer greatly especially since the water level Hydrocity Zone doesn’t want to make me tear the hair right off my head, mostly because of the water shield that I mentioned earlier in the review which allows you to breath underwater forever until you lose the shield. Environmental hazards aren’t really that much a problem anymore either since half of the time gaining one of the three shields introduced in this game will prevent you from taking any damage although being crushed well nothing can save you from that, it’s like running away from Amy Rose and no matter how fast you are she’ll always come running after you...I guess you really are crushed Hehaha. Since the special stages are relatively easier in Sonic 3 compared to the earlier entries in the series, you can easily become Super Sonic in the 3rd zone which is pretty funny because then you don’t really have any worries afterwards except for like I said with being crushed by a platform or trap. In case you’re looking for a Sonic Genesis game to play you’re just planning on having fun without the worry of frustration, then I’d definitely recommend this game as well as its direct sequel Sonic & Knuckles which I’ll be covering at another time. After looking at everything I’d give the game a difficulty level of only 6 out of 10 in my opinion.
Now you stand once again at Robotnik’s feet, as he comes out with his newest machinery to destroy you. Of course you prevail as you watch the bad doctor’s plans fall into the depths of the land just like his Death Egg ship as it is seen exploding and falling in the background. With your job done and complete I’d say it’s time to head back to our peaceful life once more. I must say after this long adventure I also need a rest from writing this review and it’s time for me to juice!

Michael Jackson? In my Sonic? ...AWESOME!   Itachi9695
In case you hadn't figured it out yet, I'm doing Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles separately, I might do Sonic 3 & Knuckles sometime in the future, but for now they're separate games. Now for the intro. Sonic 3 is often considered one of the best Sonic games of all time and there's good reason why. So how about we take a look at this game and see why it is considered so great. By the way, the title will make sense in a minute, just wait.
Graphics
This is one area where this game really shines. It just looks spectacular. Everything from the sprites to the levels to the backgrounds, everything just looks amazing. While I actually prefer Sonic 2's sprite design a little more, these still look really good. Besides, I like the rest of the art just fine, especially the levels. The art really stands out and it definitely feels like it tells you where you are, be it an ice land or a carnival, the art just fits. The animations during cutscenes (yes, there are cutscenes in this one) are pretty good and get the point across really well. The game just looks great, especially for the Genesis, but like I always say, great graphics don't always mean a great game.
Sound
The soundtrack...is just awesome! Every track definitely make me feel like I'm playing a Sonic game. From Angel Island to Launch Base, this is just a great soundtrack that needs to be heard. One fun fact about this game is that Michael Jackson helped with the soundtrack, even though the co-worker who confirmed this has never played the game and doesn't know which tracks of his -if any- were put in the game. That won't stop me from guessing which ones are his though. I personally think that the most likely candidate is the mini-boss theme (listen for yourself). But even if MJ didn't write any of the songs in this game, it would still be considered amazing in my book. Enough drooling over the music though, let's move on.
Addictiveness
This game is the first Sonic game on the Genesis to have a save feature, so now you can save your progress. (You could do this in Sonic CD as well, but I completely forgot about it) This is a great addition to the game because you can come back any time after you get the Chaos Emeralds and breeze through every level. I also sometimes like to start the game completely fresh and sometimes use the "No Save" feature to make it feel like another one of the classics. There are also many secret paths to discover and every time I play this game, I end up taking another path, I really like this kind of level design, it gets people to come back again and again. The game is very addicting and fun, making this a perfect fit in the classic Sonic series.
Story
Now, if you'll remember the "Graphics" portion of this review, I said there were cutscenes. Well, this is why. This game's story is actually told in game. Well, everything except why Sonic is there, which I am about to explain. So at the end of Sonic 2, it appeared that they had gotten rid of the Death Egg, but Dr. Eggman managed to crash land on Angel Island, which the manual call the Floating Island, which can float in the air using the power of the Emeralds. Eggman manages to trick Knuckles into thinking that Sonic is the one who wants to steal the Emeralds. Eggman takes the Emeralds and the island falls into the sea. Sonic and Tails go to investigate what happened when Knuckles ambushes Sonic, who had transformed into Super Sonic shortly before arriving, and takes Sonic's Emeralds. From here, I think the story is pretty much self-explanatory. All in all, it's a very well told story especially on this system.
Depth
This game definitely has a lot to explore and discover, just like all the Genesis Sonic games. This aspect is what really contributes to the addictiveness of the game. The only downside is that there are only 6 levels in the entire game; Angel Island Zone, Hydrocity (or Hydro City) Zone, Marble Garden Zone (not to be confused with Marble Zone), Carnival Night Zone (a.k.a. Stupid Barrels Zone), Ice Cap Zone, and Launch Base Zone. Each Zone has 2 Acts now, which was introduced in Sonic 2. Also, in each Zone are hidden giant rings which are your key to Special Stages. There's even a 2-player mode where you and a friend can race each other in 5 different stages. There's really a lot this game has to offer so it's definitely worth trying to explore everything.
Difficulty
Once again, I honestly don't have a lot to say here because it's pretty much the same as any other classic Sonic game because the more you play it the easier it gets. It may be a little difficult at first, but after a while, it's almost a breeze. The part of this game that I consider remotely difficult any more is Special Stages. I honestly don't really like the "Blue Sphere" Special Stages as much as Sonic 2's. It takes quite a bit of memorization, but after playing these a few times, you should get it. Well, that's it for this, moving on.
Gameplay/Controls
The controls for this game are pretty much the same as the others. The D-pad moves you left or right, or let's you look up and down. All the buttons jump and pressing down while running makes you roll. Holding down and repeatedly mashing the buttons will let you spin dash, giving you burst of speed. One move added in this game is the Insta-Shield, you perform this simply by pressing a button after jumping. Speaking of shields, there are 3 types in this game, Water, which lets you breathe underwater and use a bounce attack, Fire, protecting you from fire (Duh) and giving you a mid-air dash ability, and my personal favorite, Lightning, which not only protects you from electricity, but also melts ice around certain enemies, gives you a double jump, and ATTRACTS RINGS. You activate the bounce/dash/double-jump by pressing jump twice with that particular shield. The game plays smoothly and you feel like you're in control of what happens. The Gameplay and controls are very good, some of the best in the series.
Overall, it's definitely a fun game that every Sonic fan should play at least once. With a great story, great gameplay, a music written by Michael Jackson (I hope anyway), I give this game a 9.3 out of 10. (Well, really 9.25, but I had to round up for obvious reasons) Join me next time for Sonic & Knuckles!

Sonic and tails stop dr robotnik for the third time!   RedHotToddy
Now to be honest with you guys, when a movie or video game franchise finally reaches it's third installment, things can go either two or so ways, It can go the Indiana Jones three way and become quite possibly the best installment of the franchise, OR it can go the teenage mutant ninja turtles three route AND become the worst of the entire franchise, Well It is no surprise that Sonic the hedgehog has finally reached his third installment in his series, and I have yet to see what this one will be like! But anyways, this is Sonic the hedgehog three for the Sega genesis.
Story-7/10
The main plot of this game goes a little more or way deeper then the previous two installments, but here It is, It has been a year or so since you stopped Dr robotnik's mechanical death egg in Sonic the hedgehog two, HOORAY, HOORAY, HOORAY! But just when you though it was all over, Just wait till you see what has happened next, The game opens up with Sonic and tails flying to a mysterious Island call the floating island, Sonic then super sonics his way there, and right when he gets there, He is immediately stopped by this Red fellow named Knuckles the echidna Who has become one of the more prominent characters in the series and a long time buddy of Sonic AND tail, but anyways, Meanwhile, we then discover that Dr robotnik's death egg has crash landed on the island! He then detects sight of a mysterious emerald on the island, He lastly discovers that he can find the power of the emeralds and thus bring the Death egg back to life all in once piece! Knuckles then agrees to aid Sonic and tails on their journey, and so It begins, Can Sonic and tails bring down the doctor for the third time? Or will they end up falling to their death? Let's find out shall we?
Gameplay-8/10
Main gameplay in Sonic the hedgehog three has somewhat changed for the better, I mean, There are alot of new things to do and such in the game! And here is what is up, Well first, this game actually uses a save feature! Which means that you can save your game data and pick up from where you last left off, Second, The game offers various modes of play, Just sonic, just tails, or you can play as Sonic AND tails! Toejam and earl anyone? So anyways, in Sonc the hedgehog three, you take the role of Sonic and tails ONCE again, as you run, jump, and dash your way through more then 6 various worlds and levels! Along the way, Sonic and tails will be defeating robotnik and his evil baddies in each world! The controls are pretty simple, You use the D-pad to move, you press A B and C to jump, and well, that is pretty much all! The level design in this game has quite changed! First game was 2 platforming levels and a boss at the end, Second game was one platforming level and one boss level, and thankfully the level structure this time around has gone back to normal! It is just two platforming levels, and then comes the boss! In each level, there are these giant rings that will take you a big 3D special stage! Here you control sonic and tails as you guide them through this big 3D level collecting all the blue circles and avoiding the red ones, If you hit any red ones, It is all over. The game also introduces two new types of levels to the mix as well, You get a couple of snowboarding levels where you ride a sled down the snowy hill, And there is also one stage where you control Super sonic and roar through the night sky! Anyways, Everything here besides that still feels really fresh and innovative, and that is for the best! At the end of each world, Sonic and tails will have to fight a big and huge boss that will take alot of strategy and thinking to beat. Anyways, that Is all pretty much it for the gameplay!
Graphics-9/10
This game was released in 1994, and for what it is worth, It looks really darn good! Actually, It looks like without a doubt the best looking sonic game on the genesis! When you boot up the game, you are greeted with a big fancy and colorful title screen with Sonic doing the wink finger at you, and that looks pretty good. But if there is one thing I just love about this game, It has GOT to be all the levels! The levels this time around arrange from glaciers, jungles, underwater temples, and so on! Now for the actual character sprites, they look pretty okay as well, Sonic and tails look all brand new and refurbished, and That is a plus, But the main cast of characters in this game has vaguely changed for the better! We now have Sonic, tails, knuckles the echidna, and last but not least, Dr robotnik! The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It shows your rings, lives, score, and that is It.
Sound-8/10
Out of all the sonic games I have reviewed on the genesis so far, You got to really hand it to Sega, as they have made Sonic the hedgehog three's soundtrack without a doubt one of the catchiest soundtracks in a while! I mean. What IS a sonic game without some funky and cool music to go with it? Nothing! But anyways, each level after the last has cute, charming, happy, bright, and just overall awesome music to go with it! Be it the underwater temples of HYDROcity, the big starry casino of Carnival night zone, Or the final hour feel of the launch base! Now for the sound effects, they are your typical fare as well, Not that it is a bad thing, I mean some old things are great you know! But anyways, for the sound effects, you get some typical stuff like the rings, the jump, the shield, and so on. And they are all very cartoony and awesome sound effects in general. Now while the music in each level can get really repetitive sometimes, It is no problem!
Addictiveness-8/10
This game was pretty darn fun back in 1994, and my opinions on it still haven't melted away just yet! The things that make sonic's adventures so darn addictive is just all the speed, action, and fun there is to it! As I have addressed before, Sonic is such a cool character to control! He is agile, fast, and cool! No wonder why we all love him! But anyways, another thing that makes this game fun is collecting all the various extras! As with the previous two installments, there are tons of things to collect, Chaos emeralds, extra lives, etc. And speaking of lives, I always end this game with over 20 of them! Yeah, It seems they give out lives like candy in this game.
Depth-8/10
This is the third installment of the series, so of course this game has to offer the most out of all other ones before it! But anyways, this one offers quite alot to do! And here is what is up with this game, Well to start off, the game offers over six big worlds each with three levels, so get ready for a long 2-3 hour quest! Hmm...the game also offers over seven or so chaos emeralds to collect by completing those special stages! Collect all of them and you can turn into Super sonic at ANY time! One last thing, the game once again offers that two-player mode from Sonic the hedgehog two, you know, the one where you and a friend can race each other through any of the game's levels? Yeah, this game does It better though, more levels and characters! I remembered playing this mode and It didn't disappoint one bit!
Difficulty-7/10
Now to be completely fair with you guys, this one in my opinion is actually one of the more harder sonic games I have played on the genesis! Here are some reasons why, some of the levels in this game are way too big and so you can easily get lost! (Marble zone Act 2, I will destroy you!) But oh well, the game is supposed to be challenging you know! That is why us gamers play video games! To be entertained, to be challenged, and so on! But if you are good, then this game won't give you THAT much of a hard time.
Overall-10/10
You must buy this game now! It is without a doubt the best Sonic game for the genesis! I mean, it has everything you loved from the first two games, but just made really really better! I gave this game a 10 because It is fun, challenging, cute, charming, and I ran out of compliments! But anyways, just buy this amazing game! You won't be disappointed guys! So anyways, this has been RedHotToddy's 115th review! So see you guys later or tomorrow in my 116th review!

Sonic The Hedgehog 3   classgame
So how popular was Sonic The Hedgehog 3? enough to get the Happy Meal treatment when it did come out

Though granted around this time the SatAM Sonic was a thing but I'm too young to remember it (I'm old enough to remember when Teletoon aired Sonic Underground (There is also a hack game called the S Factor where you play as one of the characters in that show (it's not on this site though) which I'm shocked they did, why don't they just incorporate Sleet and Dingo while we're at it) So anyway here we are taking about Sonic The Hedgehog 3, a rather ground breaking entry in the Sonic franchise. How Groundbreaking? We can save our games! We Can go back to other rounds after we finish the game so we can try to collect the emeralds we missed or we get that taunting Try again screen with Botnik and Knuckles
Gameplay and Story: Robotnik's death egg has crashed on an Island and manipulates it's only inhabitant....oh WELCOME TO THE FRANCHISE KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA! (oh by the way, an interesting note to bring up, Knuckles made it into Sonic Underground....Tails DIDN'T....why? though Knuckles was on the show for like 4 episodes) Robotnik manipulates Knuckles into thinking that Sonic and Tails are the bad guys and are after the master emerald (which by the way we never see) and wouldn't you know it Sonic and Tails have tracked down Robotnik, but our heroes get ambushed by Knuckles, the Chaos Emeralds are stolen (you know I'm starting to think the Chaos Emerald trilogy in SU was made as some kind of love letter to the games) and now they have to get them back
Graphics: They are kind of the same as the previous 2 entries, but man the second part of round 2, probably my favourite of the bunch, but man am I supposed to be in a dangerous Hydro plant type place or am I in some kind of water park. Round 4 kind of reminded me of that Casino round in Sonic 2 minus the slots. The Arctic region was something new seeing Sonic snowboard, and the possibility of getting frozen.
Soundtrack: You know when I was a couple of years into playing this game, thought that the first Boss music sounded a little bit like Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror. and no wonder we later found out like years after Jackson's death that he did INDEED contribute to the soundtrack at one point, then guess what hit the fan for Jackson. If the developers were trying to hide it, they didn't do a good job.
Addictive: Well it definitely kept me coming back considering that I got this game along with the console and multiple other games (which I will review) it took me until the Spring of 2003 to master the game
Depth: This was the first sonic game to NOT also get a SMS release, but it's probably for the best. This game is extremely different than it's predecessors, the items are no longer in computer monitors and rather than just that blue glowing Shield, we get THREE different shields, we get a fiery one, good for plowing through barricaded areas but useless once we hit water, we have a bubble shield, good for bouncing, excellent for if you are under water (I could have used those in the previous two games) and especially useful in level 2 of round 4 when we have to push that stupid whatever that rotating thing was down enough so I can have space to squeeze down there and finish the round, that thing was a total time waster. And of course the electro magnetic Shield useful to attract coins, good for high jumping as well (but not in round 4 act 2) but also useless when you hit the water, there are bonus rounds, you jump into a floating ring to play a bonus round to retrieve the chaos emeralds, the only enemies in this level are the red spheres. There is also the checkpoint bonuses where this time you jump to a gumball machine to try and get a shield, get coins, reset the red springboards(which you can only use once hence the rep gumball) and once you hit the springboards are gone the round is over...oh I almost forgot during the ice levels there's another new obstacle in the game there are Robotnik cards, don't touch them you will lose your rings, if you have no rings and you touch one, you lose a life.
Difficulty: I had difficulty with it at first, I was stuck on Angel Island for a long time but even once I got to the Hydro city I hit a brick wall there, (I still remember when I did get somewhere in that part of the game, it was the first weekend of December 2001, and still trying to process the news of the death of George Harrison, probably the first celebrity death that hurt) and it seems every part of the game has a part of the game where you end up being stuck until you can figure it out (like 4x2). Like I had said already, I didn't master this game until 2003.
Overall: This game definitely brought something new to the table, new character, new shields, etc. I've been able to finish this game several times I wish I could say the same for the others. I give it a perfect score

Sonic the hedgehog 3 review   SacredShadow
Hey guys, its Razor-987 with another review here! Today I will be reviewing sonic the hedgehog 3 which is perhaps one of my top absolute favorite sonic games out there. This is the 3rd game in the awesome series and it was released in 1994 for the sega genesis console. The awesome part about this game is that knuckles is in it in the beginning! Not to mention all of the little improvements put into this game to make it one of the best in the series. So without further delay, let's get on to the review!
Gameplay:
Before I really jump into the game, I want to first go into the gampleay briefly. First off the gameplay hasn't really changed that much, it is still the same high paced action and the arcade feel you get from this game. I think that if you have enjoyed the first 2 sonic games, you certainly won't be disappointed with this one! Overall the gameplay is still pretty much the same and you are still beating up badniks and grabbing coins and then facing off against Eggman at the end of each level. Some of the levels are pretty long though which is why they have a 10 minute time limit. But I think that is a plus because the longer the levels, the more you can truly enjoy the game. One of my favorite thing about this game is the awesome save feature, because once you have beaten all of the levels you can go back to them and get the emeralds to become super sonic which I think is pretty handy for that purpose. Another cool feature that will massively help you out in the game are the shields, there are 3, the bubble, the electric and the fire shields. They can all deflect bullets coming towards you and they can save you from one attack. They are all pretty self explanatory as to what they do, but I will go over them anyway, the fire shield protects you from fire, the electric one draws rings towards you and the water shield helps you breath underwater which is useful since sonic can't swim. So these are pretty much the basics in this game and also some of the new features introduced. Now on to the review this time!
Graphics: 9
I have always thought the graphics of sonic games were really nice, they are a lot like the ones in sonic the hedgehog 2, but there are a lot of little changes as well, one of the ones I've noticed was that annoying little purple outline around some of the characters that was in sonic 2, well it isn't in this game anymore, and the characters are also a darker shade as well. The background environment for each of the zones look more vibrant and colorful then ever before and it all flows together quite nicely. I just thing the stage graphics are phenomenally improved from before and they are just mindblowingly detailed. There is a lot of animation and bright colors, but it goes with the speed of the game well. I also thought that I would point out some of the shields that sonic has, they look really nice and detailed as well. , like the fire, water and lightning shield for example. Overall I think the graphics are a huge step up from what they were in Sonic 2, they are much more colorful, bright and vibrant and they are really enjoyable to catch a glimpse of when you aren't running at the speed of sound. So because of that, i scored the graphics a 9 because it is just a huge improvement from before and all these little changes and modifications only make the graphics that much more enjoyable to look at and appreciate.
Sound: 9
I will say that each time that I think the music for a sonic game is good, the next game's music always trumps the last and this game is no exception to that, just when I thought that the music for sonic 2 was good, this one's music is better! This game has some of the most amazing music, especially the carnival night zone in my opinion, it is really addicting and catchy at the same time which is why I like it so much. I don't think that there is a single piece of music in this game that is bad quality, I just hope that they can keep this awesome quality and get even better as it keeps on moving forward the more titles they make in this awesome series of games. The sounds are also realistic, like when the water bounces off of the shield and makes a bloop sound or the buzzing sound of the lightning shield when you are jumping, it may not seem like much, but all these little extra things add up to make the game more memorable and enjoyable. They may go unnoticed, but they all really contribute to the greatness of this game, I also scored the sound a 9 out of 10, it is just really good and it is only bound to get better with every title they release.
Addictiveness: 8
I really enjoyed every bit of this game and I find it to be just as enjoyable as the previous games that came before it. Mostly because this game is just really easy to pick up on and play, it isn't complicated and the controls aren't confusing, and it doesn't require you to practice with the controls to really get the hang of it. The mechanics of this game are simple yet fluent which leads me to my next point, previous controls for past sonic games were rather awkwardly positioned and it felt weird to control, and this game offers an easier and more polished version of those controls. This game just offers so much to it and it has really shown some change from its predecessors for the better. I try to not play this game too much because eventually the addictiveness or replay value will fade away if you play it too much and it will eventually get boring and old, but I will say that I absolutely enjoy every level of this game, so it is worth the time to pick up and play because you will really notice the improvements from previous games which will make it all the more enjoyable to play. Overall i find the game to be pretty addicting in general, it's sonic for crying out loud, so because of that I scored the addictiveness factor of this game an 8.
Story: 6
Okay, so the plot for this game is rather simple, like most sonic games are. So as you may already know, Knuckles is introduced in this game and you find out that his home has been disrupted by the crash landing of Dr. Eggman's death egg landing which went completely wrong. This all happens after you complete sonic 2 of course. And then knuckles faces off against you because he is brainwashed by Dr. Eggman who has made him believe that you are out to take the chaos emeralds away, including the master emerald in which knuckles protects and watches over. Knuckles will appear after every level to try and stop your progress, but after defeating Dr Eggman, he becomes part of your team and then from there, it is basically the same, you chase after Eggman through each of levels and then you battle him at the end. Nothing really new or unheard of before. The story isn't really complicated and wit sonic games it never really has been since a lot of the times it just picks up from where it left off and then carries on to defeating Dr. Eggman and the end of every level. So for that, the story hasn't changed too drastically because you are pretty much doing the same thing as you have always done, so I scored the story a 5 because there is a plot in this game, but it is a rather simple one at that, so I gave it a neutral score. If it was anymore complicated though, the vibe would be different from what we are used to from prior sonic games. So not much changes other than knuckles joining you in your mission. I will point out that the storyline may be a bit confusing because sonic lands on this floating island and knuckles attacks him every chance he possibly can because he has been brainwashed by Dr. Eggman who tricked him into thinking that sonic was the bad guy who wanted to take his emeralds. The bottom line is that Dr Eggman plans to kill knuckles off so that he can have the emeralds all to himself. How greedy and selfish right? And then from there it just gets kind of confusing, at least for me because knuckles catches Eggman with the last emerald and then there is no dialog, so I really don't know what is even supposed to happen, so I just found the plot of this game a little confusing to follow which is why I gave it a 6 overall.
Depth: 6
There is a decent amount of stuff to do in this game. Compared to prior games, it may not seem as long as you would normally expect it to be, but nevertheless, there are 6 zones in this game along with the 7 stages in which you can gain access of the chaos emeralds. One thing I wasn't really to excited about were the lack of zones, because there's only 6 in this game while in sonic 2, there were 11, so it may be a bit of a disappointment, but i don't think it is worth throwing a hissy fit over.I will point out that some of the zones feel like you have been there before, like the hydrocity zone and the carnival night zone that bounces you around to no end. It really seems like a lot of the zones are pretty much the same as before. And also with the addition of the shields from lightning and water shields, it really makes the game a lot easier and less challenging compared to sonic 1 and 2. So, chances are you are going to beat this game faster than you would the first 2. Overall, it isn't the longest of the sonic games in my opinion and is shouldn't take you as long to beat. I did feel like something was missing from this game however because you never find out about the showdown between knuckles and sonic, you don't know what comes next. It kind of just left you hanging a bit. So because there is a decent bit of stuff to do, I scored the overall depth of this game a 6, mostly because it is made to be a lot easier than the other 2 because of the shields you can use in this game which will prevent you from dying nearly half as much as before.
Difficulty: 5
As I mentioned before, this game isn't that hard, this game took me about a week, if that to actually beat, so it shouldn't really take you that much longer to beat either. You shouldn't really have too much trouble handling enemies in each of the stages, thanks to the shields, they save you from dying a lot, which really takes a good chunk of the challenging part out of this game. I breezed through this game pretty easily and when you compare it to the other sonic games, it really isn't any more difficult, if anything it is easier than sonic 1 and 2. So that is why I scored it a 5 for difficult, it isn't that hard and I guarantee you will be able to beat this game in little to no time at all. Now to cover the controls of this game...
Controls:
One thing I really liked about this game were the change in the controls, I think that is a big plus to what they were before, it felt awkward and different before and it was a bit hard to control and with this game it is really simple and the controls overall feel a lot more polished and refined. To sum it up in a few words, they are crisp, responsive and very simple and they really just built up upon the controls they had before and just really fixed it up. There are special abilities and powers in this game which you can activate imply by double jumping (by pressing the jump button in midair of course) with this, tails can fly for a short amount of time and sonic can perform his spin and slice attack and also an attack for each of the special shields you can access in this game. Pretty cool right? So the controls in this game are very simple and polished off from before, and if I were to rate them, they would get an easy 10, but they aren't a part of the criteria....
Overall: 9.4
Overall I enjoyed this game greatly and I think there are several great improvements to this game that weren't in prior sonic games like the shields and the more polished controls. I will say that the graphics and sound of this game are superb to the previous sonic games and I think the best out of the 3. They are just amazing and I think you will really enjoy the game on just that alone, so with all of this added in this game, I think it is definitely worth your time to play this game, especially if you are into fast paced sonic games and have played the other 2 before. This is the game for you! I really hope you can get as much fun out of it as I did. Have fun!
So, what did you think of my review? Please feel free to comment and provide constructive feedback so that I can become a better reviewer. Thanks for reading, hope you liked it!

Sonic 3 review. Sega Genesis/mega drive   SuperCrash64
Alright Continuing from Sonic 2  and 1 which were great classics at the time. Sonic Team Really kicked it up to the next level . As you people can  all remember Sonic 1 was about Speedy fast action and of course blast processing. Sonic 2 was different but you had all those basic things. The biggest Change was The inclusion of Miles tails Prower. Which was going to Be Sonic's side kick or partner in the series. Of course They would have a few more games. Enter The Sonic 3 review.
Plot This time the plot was different Instead of just destroying Egg man or Robot ink, Knuckles joins as an enemy at first. So you still Basically Go through a whole bunch of levels including the hated water levels. And Defeat Egg man or Robot ink  And Free all forest animals  from getting turned into robots or From being robots.  But with the exception of Knuckles
Graphics These Graphics are very nicely done again Sonic team really knows how to do their stuff. Anyways Sprites look great And very true to the Past games I really like the sprites although they have gotten through a few changes in their coding or design. Stages Also Look good for The genesis Considering it could only display 64 colors at once.I really like the flame effects. And All stages They Really Make Doctor Robot ink/Egg man Look like a Boss you don't want to mess with . Graphics gets a 10 they look really good and nice
Sound you have all your familiar sounds meaning you ill hear Crashing banging Jumping Effects from the Previous games which adds a great sense of Similarity if you had played Sonic 1 and 2 of course. Soundtrack Not only is it good sounding. I was actually Shocked when I had  found out That Michael Jackson Did the Composing Soundtrack of This game. I was like oh my god no wonder the soundtrack was good. Anyways the Soundtrack Has a great sense and Sonic Style to it I really like the job Michael Jackson did on composing this. Sound gets a 10 Theres no other reason I can explain why the Sounds in this game is just perfect . And really well done composed
Addictiveness  I'm not sure if this is Part 1 To The Continuation of Sonic and Knuckles game . But This game is still addicting and fun for The Fast Pased action and challenge of the game  only thing that is a pain is the water levels but its natural. Addictiveness gets a 8
Story Explained in Plot  I Will rate it a 6. Because its the same storyline as Sonic 1 and 2 just with knuckles getting in the way in some parts.
Depth.   Theres a whole lot of levels details and stuff waiting to be Seen and  Walked Through. The most Part is the Challenge of The levels I will get into how difficult the levels are in a bit. Anyways this game has About 8 or 10 levels if I can recall with a bunch of acts and the final bosses. Depth gets a 10 its just as long lasting as the previous 2 sonic games
Difficulty 7. They added a lot More water levels which makes this game a lot more difficult. I would say boss difficulty got raised quite a bit as well. The controls work perfect and are very responsive just as they originally were.
Overall This is a good part 1 I think. I will Rate this a 9.6 good graphics awesome music composed by a dearly missed man A bit more challenging than the other sonic games.

Greatest of all time? Or another "eh"?   KurisuKaname
Alright so it's time for me to hopefully not review anything negatively! Can I hold out? My reviews of Somari and Sonic 3D Blast weren't amazing, but maybe I found my smile this time around! Here we are with ONE HALF of my favorite Sonic Game of all time. This is Sonic 3, part of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles Saga. This saga is basically Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles together, as they were originally supposed to be one game. But without further ado, let's get to the game at hand. Sonic The Hedgehog 3!
Graphics:
This game is a pretty good upgrade to Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The sprites have been all redone just to smooth everything out, and for the Sega Genesis I really think they did will with what they wanted Sonic 3 to be and how they were gonna do it. Nothing feels like a missed moment, visually. From the moment you fly to Angel Island, to it catching on fire, all the way to the final battle with Dr. Robotnik. Plus the special stages even do things with Sonic that are pretty impressive, even if it is just a checkerboard background with some spheres on it. All of this said, I score The Graphics a 7/10.
Sound:
The sound is pretty good, from the moment you start up, to the moment you fight the final boss, it feels pretty good. A lot of the music, as a matter of fact, is reportedly composed by Michael Jackson, and honestly... Who could not enjoy the Final Boss theme? It's just amazingly epic! I think they hit the nail on the head with this one. 8/10.
Addictiveness:
I would play this again, I've played it many times over the years and I'm sure you will too! There's not much to say about the addictiveness of the game, maybe I'm just on a Nostalgia Rush, but honestly, I rate The Addictiveness 7/10.
Story:
Alright so they kinda tried with the story this time around, even if the game is basically in half. Sonic and Tails are flying along after Sonic 2, when they see a Floating Island, falling from the sky. Sonic goes Super Sonic to investigate, when he gets knocked out by Knuckles The Echidna, a debuting character who was told by Dr. Robotnik that Sonic and Tails were setting out to steal the Master Emerald. a gem that has the power to keep The Floating Island...well...afloat! Knuckles then proceeds to take the Chaos Emeralds and hide them, leading you to have to collect The Chaos Emeralds and beat Dr. Robotnik again, with Knuckles The Echidna roadblocking you at every turn! The story's not amazing but I feel that they tried with this one, therefore I'll give it a 5/10.
Depth:
Okay so here's what we got for depth. Platform, fight enemies, fight Robotnik, and get the Chaos Emeralds, simple, usual Sonic Stuff, you can also play as Tails, which does basically nothing to the levels, all it does is let you fly and swim. Not much depth at all, so I'd have to rate this a 5/10.
Difficulty:
Okay so...the game isn't that hard honestly. It's just...blah. I don't find myself struggling to do much at all, the game is pretty good difficulty-wise for beginners and veterans alike, but it's still a step down compared to the later stages of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. (CURSE THAT DEATH EGG ROBOT!!!). Overall, the game controls really nice, and the difficulty is pretty much just right for everyone. I'd have to rate this a 5/10. In a good way.
Overall:
Maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia but I can't help myself, the game, at least to me, is pretty amazing, while it's in half basically (Which sucks) I can still honestly rate it about 9.1/10. That's my final rating, with everything given before.
Now I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read my opinions on Sonic The Hedgehog 3, and I would like to wish you a good day/night. I hope to see you in the future.

Sonic 3 review   IgorBird122
The last game in the classic Sonic Trilogy, Sonic 3. We see our Hedgehog hero Sonic returns with his sidekick Tails and what's new, we now see Knuckles come into the series.
The Graphics:
Although the graphics in this game isn't as good as the first two games, but still, the graphics on this game is pretty good. It does have that elemental touch to each of the levels which makes the level really great, plus some of the effects are really awesome.
I give this an 8 out of 10
------
The Sound/Music:
The Music in this game is all well done and even some of them are really addicting to listen to, like some of the bosss musics is all great.
For the sound effects, nothing much changed from the first 2 games, although a few sound effects were added into the game, like
I give this a perfect 10 out of 10
------
The Addictiveness:
The addiction level is great with this game, even know I haven't played this game as much as the other 2 games, but it feel like I should of and since I started playing this game, I just don't want to stop playing this game because it's that fun. A lot of interesting things that makes me want to keep on playing more and more.
I give this a 9 out of 10
------
The Story:
The Story takes place after the events of Sonic 2, once he have defeated Dr. Robotnik again, Sonic happens to gain some chaos emeralds to make him super, but then when he entered Angle Island, but then got intercepted by Knuckles who happens to stolen Sonic's chaos emeralds and Sonic goes after Knuckles to get the emeralds back, while at the same time, you try and stop Dr. Robotnik again.
I give this a 9 out of 10.
------
The Depth:
Just like in previous Sonic games, you got a bunch of levels to beat, to beat and you got a lot of newer enemies to encounter. You have a total of 6 Zones, and instead of being 2 separate acts, you got 2 acts that are merged into one level which is nice touch. In each of the acts, you have a giant ring you know from the 1st Sonic game, but this is in secret locations in the levels. This games does have a lot of interesting content.
I give this a 9 out of 10
------
The Difficulty:
Pretty much like I mentioned before, if you haven't played this game before, this gave can be very difficult, but the more you play onto this game, the easier it becomes, and the boss is very difficult to defeat but once you know what you're doing, the levels can be easy to pass.
I give this an 8 out of 10.
------
Overall:
Overall, this game is wonderful, the storyline with the game is great and the other things that made this game great and everything, Even know I haven't played a lot on this game, I would still recommend this game if you haven't played this game before, especially after you played the first 2 Sonic games.
Overall, I give this game a 9 out of 10

Sonic The Hedgehog 3   gamefreak0814
Overall - 10
This game was one of my favorites when I was a kid and it still is. Though if you've played this game for as long as I have you should be able to go Super Sonic at least by the third stage, Marble Gardens. Overall, I loved this game and it was my chance to get away from family when I was younger.
Graphics - 10
The graphics on this game were better than most. The 3-D in the chaos emerald stages were cool. This is one of the few games that don't strain my eyes after 3 hours...That or I just don't care. The graphics are excellent for the Sega Genesis.
Sound - 9
The songs for this game are like Mario in a way. After a while you start humming to them, but after a while it gets tiresome to hear the beep beep beep every time you get a blue sphere. So it's not bad, but it's not the best. It's right up there though.
Addictiveness - 10
This game was fun when I was little and still is. I've played this game like a million times and I'll probably play it a million more times before I pass. This is definately a game you should play!
Story - 7
The story is a little cloudy to me. Knuckles steals the emeralds from you as you approach an unknown island in the middle of the ocean. First off, why are you going there? I've read the manual and you might as well explain what happened rather than a **** of a Knuckles takes your emeralds when you can easily stop him. WTF!?
Depth - 7
The game didn't seem to have much story to it and it wasn't very long either. I'd beat the game in at least an hour or two each time.
Difficulty - 7
This game isn't very hard, but it's not easy. You can't tell what you're going to run into next until you do. Then you're dead or you lose all your hard earned rings. It's definately easier than most Sonic games now. Play it!

sonic the hedgehog 3 review   sonic23
whats up guys I'm back with another review of sonic the hedgehog 3 for the Sega genesis. This game is my childhood I loved playing this game ok let's get back on topic this game takes place after the events of sonic the hedgehog 2 ( although it should take place after sonic cd because sonic cd came out before sonic 3 but after sonic 2) so after sonic and tails destroy the death egg they see this strange island appear called angel island so sonic and tails go to check it out and when they get up there they meet this strange person who is known as knuckles now knuckles thinks that sonic wants to destroy angel island so he tries to stop him and knuckles takes the chaos emeralds so its up to you to get them back in stand alone sonic 3 there are only six zones angel island, hydrocity, marble garden, carnival night, ice cap and launch base zone so you have a lot of chances to get all seven chaos emeralds and when you get seven you unlock super sonic ok enough bio let's talk about the graphics, sound, addictiveness, story ( although I think I went into the story) depth and difficulty graphics 9 the graphics look outstanding there's so much going on in the background which I love about games sound 8 the sound is great but it could have been better   the sound is just the same from sonic 1 and 2 addictiveness 9 sonic 3 is a game that I would play over and over again that's how awesome the game is. Story 9 I think I went in detail about that already so moving on depth 9 this game has a lot and I mean a lot of hidden pathways there are so many pathways that when I played this I had no idea where I was going. Difficulty  5 the difficulty is not that hard so overall sonic the hedgehog 3 gets a 9.5/10 hope you guys like my review later

Hard times, Happiest days of my life   becerra95
Is this considered a trilogy or a tetralogy? I mean it’s two games but it was meant for one. I’ll say it’s a trilogy but here’s the story.
Another genesis classic that if the first two haven’t been putting this game on the map, this one certainly will. I own the second half of the game for a long time now and thought to myself “hey why not get the first half of the game?” Mind you this was back in 2013 and I bought the game. It felt so complete playing the two and it instantly made an impact of the experience. I was first introduced to the game by a windows cd compilation disc back in 2006, which I played a lot until the game cracked and became unplayable. Since then I owned the physical copies, digital copies through Xbox, pfft it was even on sonic origins but there’s issues to address there which is why I’m not touching that version. Either way here’s part one of the trilogy. The blue hedgehog is back again in this installment of Sonic The Hedgehog 3!
Story: 9
(From the manual.) After the events of Sonic almost destroying the death egg on Sonic 2, Dr. Robotnik crashed into Angel Island and noticed how it’s floating in the sky. He learned that the chaos emeralds are holding the island afloat, so he devised a plan to steal the emeralds and trick the guardian of the emeralds, Knuckles the Echidna, to tackle Sonic and Tails saying they’re the enemies of the island, trying to steal the emeralds. It’s up to the two to stop Robotnik from obtaining the emeralds and use them to fix his ship. Will they succeed or will knuckles stop the two and Robotnik finally win against his nemesis?
The story builds up after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and it’s basically the same story as before. Only difference is that it’s a much more larger scale and with “cutscenes” during gameplay it actually makes the game more progressive than previous titles.
For a Sega Genesis game. It’s a solid 9 out of 10. Overused probably, but it’s not broken yet.
Graphics: 9
The graphics are an upgrade to the previous title. More pseudo 3D effects. The paralax scrolling looks beautiful and backgrounds look more lively than before. Character models have a bit of a redesign (Sonic and Tails) and with the introduction of Knuckles the Echidna he looks good as a second antagonist. The fluidity is seamless Sonic Team did a wonderful job to make this one of the best Genesis titles in terms of graphics. One little nitpick is that I had to get used to Sonic’s redesign, especially his super sonic form with hair that’s a bit too long but that’s minor. Overall the graphics department, it’s a solid 9 out of 10
Sound: 9
The sound is pretty good. You can hear a bit of scratchy audio that Sega is notorious for, and some sound effects and music gets cut off or overlapped by other sounds. I mean they did well to make it work but that’s what I noticed when playing the game. Though why a high rating? It’s so easy, the music itself. The soundtrack is one of the best I heard from the sonic series. Angel Island to Hydrocity and my personal favorite Carnival Nights. What makes this so much better is that the music changes each zone. A remixed version or something along the lines and I was amazed how much it changes the whole experience. From the burning forest using a more action paced Angel Island song to a more quiet version of Ice cap zone for act 2… this is simply astonishing and made me appreciate the game with how much work Sega did. The special stage music is so upbeat and energetic when collecting blue dots for the chaos emerald and bonus stages music is a good too. One more nitpicking and this is a good one. One Angel Island Act 1, after the first mini boss appearance after he destroys the forest to a blaze of fire, you immediately find a large ring if (you know where to find them) after completing that special stage the music changes to act 2 music but you’re still in act 1. I don’t know whether it’s a developer’s oversight or a glitch but that’s something I noticed and I don’t know if anyone else did.
Overall a 9 out of 10.
Depth :  7
The game lacks depth to a degree. Yes you can play as sonic, tails, or both. What’s neat is a second player can control tails and help you out with your adventure. There is multiplayer but it’s racing like before. They expanded the levels and give you more variety though it’s not much in content. Again the chaos emeralds come in play as the main objective as collecting them will turn you into super sonic. To collect them is to find large rings to hoop in and they’ll transport you into a special stage where you walk over blue balls to turn them red and if you get all of them you obtain a chaos emerald. Enclosing the perimeter with red dots with blue dots in the middles causes them to turn into rings which can help you get a continue if needed. Bonus stages are a welcome addition to the game. Featuring three bonuses, they’re there to basically give extra rings, power ups and one ups. Nothing too special but neat. I would say about branching paths to explore the levels more and see areas you’ve never been before, but I feel like it’s best to talk about that on a different review on an upcoming game.
Overall it’s a 7 out of 10
Addictive: 8
The game is pretty fun and keeps you on your toes with the story telling. The gameplay is fantastic and choosing weather as Sonic, Tails, or both can give a nice refresh of the gameplay. Sure there’s another character but that’s under certain circumstances which shall be reveal next time. The exploration part of the game is pretty cool and helps branch out to different paths, albeit end up at the same end destination. There’s not much to say about this rather than for being a platformer, you can get good uses of playing for hours, especially if you’re speed running.
And 8 out of 10 for generosity.
Difficulty: 7
The game isn’t that difficult. It gives you extra lives after 100 rings. Bonus stages are generous. Special stages, although some are a challenge, overall gives you continues if collecting 50 rings if I recall. Maybe it’s 100 but yeah the way the game is designed is pretty much player friendly. With the save system implemented in the game it makes it easier to finish the game without restarting to the beginning. I think the most infamous example of it being hard is the Carnival Night zone 2 cylinder. That’s where most people get stuck at but if you know what to do, it’s pretty simple and you will feel kinda dumb about it.
A 7 out of 10
The game is pretty good overall, one of the best sonic games I’ve played in the Sega Genesis, and I’ve played sonic spinball so you know how well my tastes are. Some audio issues and some quirks here and there but the storytelling, the gameplay, the mechanics is what makes this game one of the best sellers of its time. What is interesting is that this game is incomplete. It was meant to be a bigger game but was split into two due to various reasons (McDonald’s) and to add the second cartridge with lock on technology you get the full experience of the game, though that’ll be a separate review. This is my rating for the game and the rating for the review

I am back with another review sonic the hedgehog 3.                                                                                                                                                                   so sonic the hedgehog 3 is a super fun game sonic 3 lets you play as sonic or Tails or even better sonic and Tails.                                               Graphics 10 I have to say this I LOVE the graphics  the graphics are so amazing and the animations are awesome as well.                                  Sound 10 i love the tracks that they put on on here they so fantastic once you start listing to the music you cant stop,                                                 Addictiveness 8 now the game is not that long so it is not that addictive i mean the game is still fun just need's to be longer.                                    Story 10 the story is awesome there are so many routs to take to get to the end and sonic has a new power in this game it is the insta shield.     Depth 8 the game is kinda big but not that big it does offer a lot new areas to go to and harder bosses to fight.                                                          Difficulty 8 the game i kinda hard but the but bosses are just a pain to beat.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3,Good or bad?   Shard_Flame132
This game is pretty good. Its got a new special stage,A new character,And it has more depth.
Knuckles The Echidna is a good addition. I just hate it that Robotnik tricked him!
Knuckles IS a tough cookie,Huh?
But not a problem for Super Sonic. Still though...
This game gets a 9.4. Its really good,And it recommend it for people who need something to do,Or for the good platformers.
It is a really good game.
I hope all people reading this will play it! It isn't the BEST Sega game...But its not the worst either.
Sega is a good company,And i hope they continue the great legacy they call
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!

Sonic 3-4th best from sega   dumlink23
Graphics-10
i gave it a ten because i looked at it as if i was looking at the game from the year it was made and the grahics for a 16 bit game were just amazing!

Sound-8
8 because the level select code for this involves  listening, also the music is best from the classic sonic series!
Addictiveness-10
You will probably be coming back to this game more then sonic 2 because of the secrets u can find in some levels
Story-7
its a 7 because this is sonic 3 with sonic and knuckles combined with it.
Depth-7
its  seven because it has a lower number of levels than sonic 2 and the final boss didnt have a good ending but they made sonic 3 and knuckles for that!
Difficulty-8
its a kinda hard game at the special stages and this game has aot of puzzles and surviving..kinda
Overall-9.8
if it was sonic 3 and knuckles then it would probably be a 10 i hope u like this game i loved it

I love this game   frizzed
So I guess I'm remaking this review because my grammar was horrific in 2014. (not that I'm skilled in English now or anything)
Sonic 3 holds some warm memories as it was one of my first introduction to platformers. However, the game and the sonic series itself has become dull to me through the years so I've fallen away from it. I will still confirm however that I still love the level designs, the game's art style, and the physics as much as I had back then so for everyone who suffered through my original review you get the idea. Finally, I recommend anyone who hasn't played Sonic The Hedgehog 3 to go give it a try.
(btw once you run out of gameplay value regularly toy around in level select and the multiplayer stages because there is a way to trick the game into shuffling levels into random designs)

I loved that game so much. It really pushed the graphical and musical capacities of the Genesis to its limits. And you coulod play 2 players in cooperation!

I have to agree with bombchu, this is by far the easiest game to get all the emeralds in. Although you could make an argument for the original Sonic the Hedgehog based on the fact that you only have to get six emeralds for that game. But Sonic 3 is still e
