Sonic advance review!   SacredShadow
Hey guys, it's Razor-987 here with another review, and today I will be reviewing Sonic advance which is a great game released in 2002 for the gameboy advance, and I must say that this game really makes sonic and the gang look better than ever before like they did on the genesis! I had a great time playing this game and I am sure that you will too if you give it a try and we will see how it compares with prior sonic games, so without further a do,let's get on to the review shall we?
Gameplay:
As always, I want to take care of the game play first and for most because it is one of the most important aspects in the game. So basically, Sonic and his friends go through various zones in the game to prevent Eggman from getting the 7 chaos emeralds and taking over the South Island. You can play as 4 characters, either from Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy who all have their own unique moves which are basically the same as they were in Sonic 3. The gameplay is also pretty much the same as always, you jump on some enemies, collect rings, beat up the boss at the end of each level and free the animals afterwards. So there isn't really anything that different about the gameplay other than the fact that you can choose which of the 4 characters you want to play the game through and then see the alternate endings for each one. I think they really could of changed the gameplay a bit more from the same casino and water levels and all the other ones we have really grown to love. I just think they could've changed it up a bit more, but that is just me, you may not feel the same way though. Now enough of my babbling and onto the review for good!
Graphics: 9
I am not going to lie, the graphics in this game are pretty good, even though they are slightly smaller than when they were on the genesis, sonic and all the sprites as well as the background of every level are vibrantly colorful and very detailed. Another plus to this game's graphics are that they look more smooth and flow better since they are less pixilated looking than before. Aside from that I think the graphics of this game are great and are no exception to the great graphics that all sonic games have. The only gripe I would have is that if you are actually playing it on a gameboy advance, it looks pretty dark and you really have to strain to see it very well, so I personally think sonic games are meant to be played on a bigger screen. But if you are on vizzed, you have nothing to worry about. Overall the graphics of this game are pretty good and they make sonic look better than ever before. Just starting off in the Neo Green Zone, you are introduced to this cool tropical beach like background and then advance into an area that looks a lot like the emerald green zone that we are all familiar with. I would definitely say that the graphics area strong point in this game along with the sound as well, it takes a different and unique approach with the graphics and for the most part, I am pretty satisfied with it.
Sound: 8
This is probably the strong point of this game, anyone who is a fan of sonic could probably hum off a sonic tune with ease if they wanted to. As for the sound in this game, they have really come a long way and the sounds of simple things in sonic games like jumping off of a spring for example sounds a lot better and a lot less cheesy than before. Other simple noises like when you are going against eggman in one of his contraptions, you can here the impact and the damage and sputtering being dealt to his machine and you can also hear it falling apart. Little things like this that would normally go unnoticed all add up to make this game's sound and overall enjoyment much better and more appealing to play. Another thing in this game is that you can actually hear the character's dialog when they are speaking pretty clearly as well. As far as music goes, it is nice in it's own right, but it just isn't as memorable as the catchy original sonic tunes that we are used to hearing. The music also alternates in mod between each sage like in the casino night zone it is more upbeat and joyful which matches the actual setting of the stage itself and it really captures what it might actually sound like, thus it is more realistic in the mood that is being set in each stage. Nevertheless though I scored the sound/ music an 8 overall, I think it is pretty good and it certainly matches up to the standards of sound and music in prior sonic games.
Addictiveness: 7
This game is fairly addicting like most sega genesis games are, however this game has one major flaw that contributes to the reason why I didn't give it a higher score in this criteria, and that is the bonus stages. There aren't any in this game and that is a pretty big aspect of the original sonic games, so it is a bit of a disappointment that this game doesn't have them. Nevertheless though, would I consider this to be a game you pick up and play everyday? Maybe not, I would say that this game is nice to play every once in a while for fun, but maybe not as much as an addicting game like super smash bros brawl for example. There are 6 major zones that you traverse through in this game and you can play as 1 of 4 characters, either Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy, so if you get bored of playing one character, you can choose to play someone else. Once you complete the game with one of those characters you will receive a game ending which is different for all of them. I think that is a pretty cool and unique part to this game. Another cool thing is that you can take care of and raise a chao in this game which is pretty cool, but it is only 1 this time as compared to being able to raise multiple chao in sonic advance 2. So overall I scored the game a 7 out of 10 for addictiveness which isn't too bad considering that this game does have its mix of pros and cons when compared to other sonic games.
Story: 4
There isn't really much tot he story or plot in this game, it is basically the same thing as it was before, Eggman looks for the 7 chaos emeralds to commence his plan to take over the world, but he will have to put up with sonic and his friends who plan to put a stop to his plans for good. That is basically all it is as far as the story goes in this game, it is relatively simple and kind of repetitive, I really think they should've taken more time on the game if it meant that they would change the plot up a bit. I think it is kind of a waste that it turned out being almost exactly the same as before with the exception of a few minor details here and there. I would've expected something different, new and exciting from a new sonic game, so this is a little disappointing that the plot is still pretty much the same. So because of that, I ended up rating the story a 4 out of 10, I really hate to score it so low, but it could've been double what it is now if they had changed or twisted it up a bit to make it more exciting and unique, nevertheless it gets a 4, I wish I could of scored it better, but that is all I can give it since the storyline barely changed at all.
Depth: 7
On the other hand of this game however, it does offer a decent amount of content and stuff to do, you can play as each of the 4 characters, either sonic, knuckles, tails or Amy and you can see the ending that follows with each one of them respectively. Then of course, as I mentioned earlier, you can raise your own chao in the chao garden which is a nice plus to add to the game. You can also buy things for it and accessorize it however you want, but in order to do so you will have to earn rings to buy those accessories, you can do so by either running through a stage or getting them from one or two simple mini games. Overall I think this game offers a decent amount of stuff for you to do and to keep you busy, it isn't a game that you should beat in 5 minutes, but on the other hand it is enough to keep you busy for a day or 2 depending on how fast you play through it. So overall, I scored it a 7 out of 10 because there is enough to keep you occupied for a decent amount of time, from the fun, unique and colorful stages to the mini games, to raising your own chao, there are quite a few options in this game to keep you busy!
Difficulty: 6
I wouldn't say that this game is overwhelmingly difficult, compared to other sonic games, this one really isn't that much harder in my opinion. However, I will say that it is important for you to be cautious of your surroundings because you could end up being so focused on quickly finishing the stage that you could pass an important platform or area that leads you to the next and you will have to go back to find it. So while speed is important, it isn't everything, you have to keep an eye out for these sort of things so you won't end up making a mistake that will cost you valuable time. Control wise it is really simple and it shouldn't give you any trouble, they are also very responsive which is another important key factor as far as controls go. The bosses aren't that hard either to be honest, there are maybe a few tough bosses in this game that are tough, but not enough to the point where it should discourage you from playing any further. If this is your first time playing then I would expect you to find it a little tricky at first but that is normal, just keep on playing through it and you will pick up on it eventually. Altogether though I think it is just the right level of difficulty to where it challenges you enough. Those are the kinds of games I like because they are more memorable and they really test you more and in the end you get more out of it than you would if it was super easy and un challenging.. So overall I scored this game's difficulty a 6 out of 10.
Overall: 9.2
All in all I think this game was pretty good and I must say that of all the cool things about this game that I really enjoyed, I really liked the graphics and music in this game, and they were a unique twist on the classic feeling that we get from the original sonic graphics and tunes, but every once in a while I think a twist on a game is a good thing and can really make you grow to like and appreciate the game even more, at least for me in this case. I had a great time playing this game and I am sure you will too. This is definitely the game for you sonic fans out there! I hope you can enjoy it just as much as I did! It is worth your time to come and try this game out because you might just like it...
So what did you think of my review? Please feel free to comment and provide constructive criticism on it as well so that I can become a better reviewer. Hope you liked it, thanks for reading!

sonic on gameboy say whatttttt????   Yargishner
As a kid I didn't have the Internet (or this was around the time I originally got it but it was very very slow) and I didn't understand or pay any attention to the stock market or the video game business. So I never knew about Segas downfall at the time, so it was a even bigger shock as a kid to see Sonic on a Nintendo platform. I still to this day remember going into a toys r us and seeing this and having to look twice and well it pretty much blown my 10 year old brain at the time. However with that being said does this game hold up to the genesis originals or does it fall behind read on to find out.
Graphics 8/10- I think this game looks really good, matter of fact I would say it even outdoes the DS games rush and rush adventure. The game is colorful and the sprites are probably the best you will ever see in a sonic game even better then the genesis titles. However the 2 sequels look so much smoother then this one and I feel like there could be a slight choppiness to the game but maybe that's just me.
Sound 9/10- Not much to really be said here other than the typical sonic noises although the game does have better sound quality then most other gba games. I would also like to point out the soundtrack in this game is pretty good. I can't say its my favorite soundtrack in the 2d sonic games but its decent.
Addictiveness/gameplay 9.5/10- The gameplay of sonic advance really shines and in some ways this and its sequels is surprisingly better than the genesis games. Of coarse it is a sonic game so expect a lot of running to be stopped by a spike pit or a enemy but the levels here seem a bit more relaxed then any of the other sonic games. Sonic advance consists of 7 zones with 2 acts each at the end of the 2nd act Dr. Eggman (aka Robotnik) appears and you have to fight him. What's different in this game is the fact that you are able to select 4 different characters at the beginning of the game sonic, tails, and knuckles return along with Amy making her 2d playable debut. (she was in sonic CD but not playable). Sonic plays just like he always does he runs the fastest out of any of the other characters and has the best spindash. Tails runs slower but he can fly short distances probably the best character to use to find the emeralds. Knuckles can punch, glide and climb walls so he is also a great character to use to find the emeralds. Amy on the other hand uses a hammer and is the slowest character in the game and instead of jumping into a ball she has a hammer attack playing with her kinda gives it more of a sonic 1 feeling as there's no spindash but she is really hard to play with
???I would say the game is very addictive as even if you fail you will want to continue. Of coarse once you beat the game you have to find all the chaos emeralds which is pretty time consuming. Probably what most people would find addictive in this game is the chao garden. Basically you take care of a chao (basically a pet) and make him as happy as possible. Although I can't say I'm a big fan of this mode a lot of people are and it is a nice break in the action of the main mode.
story- Again not much can be said here the story is your typical sonic game. Eggman stole the chaos emeralds and its up to Sonic and friends to stop him. Basically when Sega made this they didn't focus to much on the story and instead pretty much focused on bringing sonic back to its roots. Which is fine I don't play Sonic games for the story and whenever the have cut scenes I usually skip them anyway.
Depth/Difficulty 8/10- Sonic Advance is actually on of the easier sonic games to blast threw. The entire game could be beaten in about 2 and a half hours or so in a typical normal play threw. As a kid I did find it hard to get threw the game though but I managed. As a adult the game is a cake walk. However the chaos emeralds are really hard to even find even today, let alone beat the bonus game to collect them so it takes some amount of skill. In other words there is a lot of gameplay to have had here even if the main game is a little short.
overall 9.5- I think this and the other sonic advance games is on of the best sonic games out there and right up there with the genesis trilogy which is surprising since I didn't think it would be good at the time but was shocked. This is back when Sega defiantly had there hearts into the games the made and the sonic advance series (along with battle and pinball party) was on of the last good Sega games for quite a good while up tell recently since they have kind of been making a comeback at least with sonic anyway. Definitely a game you need to own whatever your playing it on vizzed or an actual gameboy this is on of the best games on the system.
positives
+ great tribute to the originals
+levels are very fun some are creative
+on of the most fun gba games out there
+nice graphics and soundtrack
negatives
-game can be short if your just going threw the levels
-you may not even realize chaos emeralds are even in the game tell after you beat it unless you stumble across it
-most zones are obviously copied over from the genesis games with new levels

Sonic on Nintendo's handheld   evilcon09
Welcome to my review of sonic advance for the gba. I believe sonic has no need for an introduction. But i'll go over the basics Sonic started of as a Sega mega drive/Genesis game which quickly increased his and Sega's popularity with quite a few games under his belt ranging for master system games to dreamcast. The devs of the game are the same folks who would ports of sonic games on handhelds and 8-bit versions of the series. Since the dreamcast failed Sega would have to do 3rd party to keep themselves afloat So this marks one of the few sonic games for nintendo before coming to xbox and playstation with heroes.
Story: its pretty much Dr Eggman/Robotnik trying to take over the world again. With sonic and friends Going to foil his plans as usual. Nothing ground breaking.
Gameplay The game has 2 modes a chao garden where players can raise chao and build up their stats on which can be imported into the gamecube port of sonic adventure. And the main campaign it's self with 4 characters to play as Sonic, Tails who can fly with his two tails, Knuckles The echidna Who can climb up walls and glide, Finally Sonic's self proclaimed girlfriend Amy Rose Who's essentially the hard mode due to her using her hammer to attack foes unlike the other 3 who can roll or jump on foes to defeat them. The game isn't very much in depth with the only thing that will keep players busy is the chao garden with players can raise their chao and earn rings from mini games A matching game, Rock paper scissors, And the only matter with the Main story mode with finding hidden springs that leads to the special zones with going down in a pipe and collecting the rings needed to gain the chaos emeralds. On which Only is useable for the true final boss only. Since super sonic isn't playable on any of the stages alone.
Graphics and sound: The game looks amazing for the gba with gorgeous Visuals that captures the zones perfectly. Form the typical green hill like to the X-ZONE As well the true final boss with the earth while chasing eggman and beating him once in for sometime (Not for all unless you want sonic to kill eggman at some point which would end the story) WIth my favorite in visuals wise is the Egg Rocket zone. With the transitions from the sunset sky to the the space. The sound is pretty good for the system It fits with the zones quite well with again EGG-Rocket capturing that feel of time is running out with the usual fear of drowning but with getting left behind. OK i admit i talked quite a bit about the Egg Rocket zone since its my favorite zone in the entire game. Any the only issue i have the graphics is when it comes to the special zones usually in the way players to aline sonic or the others to gather the necessary amount of rings to the checkpoint and the Chaos emerald and the bombs as well losing like 10 rings per hit. With this making the special zone a little harder than you expect.
Difficulty: It only gains a half score due to the special stages being hard with the precision lining of the character and the rings as well blindly finding the springs that leads to the special stages. And i already gave a very brief and straight to the point as amy for her can't spin dash or jumping on foes to kill them unlike everyone. She uses her Piko Piko Hammer to attack the foes. But since everyone goes through the same exact levels so there's some short cuts on levels depends on who is being played. with each of the characters abilities as i mentioned on the gameplay. And i'll save the super sonic fight for you guys since i have to avoid spoilers.
Well as a guy who is in love with sonic as a kid and remains loyal to him through the hardest of times. Its good to say that This game is a must have for anyone who also enjoys sonic or platformers entirely
Well I'll see you guys on the next review Happy gaming everyone

“Sega’s newest Sonic Game has been released, but on a Nintendo Gameboy Advance?   sonicthehedgeho..
SEGA!!! Who hasn’t heard this wonderful chime before during their years of gaming?  This company is by far known for one main reason, which is the fact that they were considered to be Nintendo’s ultimate rival during the late 80’s to the early 2000’s. As every time Nintendo progressed forward in the gaming market with a new revolutionary console, Sega was also in the creation of another gaming system to battle against their considered rival company and it seemed that this would be a phase with no end in sight. But....sometime after Sonic Adventure 2’s release to the Dreamcast the company’s profit started falling drastically to the point where they had thought their company end was in plain sight and In the darkest time despair of Sega’s initial downfall, Nintendo decided to reach out a helping hand to the same exact company that they had been competing with for so many years, with this offer being greatly accepted a new series of Sonic games were in full rotation onto the newest handheld system known as the Game Boy Advance with the title: Sonic Advance...will this game actually live up to the older Sonic games or even the most recent ones? Only one way to find out which is to advance down to the review below!
Graphics: 9 out of 10
If you’re unfamiliar with this trilogy of Sonic games let me enlighten you, basically the Sonic Advance games go back to the 16 bit roots of this hedgehog’s games with features added in from games like Sonic Adventure 2 with its rail grinding movements. So this game isn’t going to look as great as recent games that had come out in the previous year/years, however the sprite for Sonic does resemble his look from adventure 2 with his green eyes and body shape. Either way I believe that the graphics compliment the scenery as well as the gameplay nicely for example: The Neo Green Hill Zone which starts off which starts off with a nice tropical beach like area to relax and ease you into the game with a nice upbeat tune playing in the background while you begin to head into the somewhat similar look to the Green Hill Zone we love from the original game on the genesis, however that’s just the look as the layout has most definitely changed. All the way to levels such as the Egg Rocket Zone where you must hurry to a certain part of the stage in a certain amount of time otherwise it will take off without your hedgehog hide, also I’m not sure if it’s just me but it also looks like there is a sunset during your race through this frantic level...either way I’d say the graphics are above average but not incredible so I guess a 9 out of 10 would be a perfect score for the games graphics.
Sound: 9 out of 10
So now that Sonic has been put onto a Nintendo handheld I guess the greatness of this series music has been demolished into ruins, am I right...WRONG! This games music is spectacular for the GBA but does that mean that it’s on par with the Genesis games music, so sorry but no I don’t think so however; does that mean that it’s my least favorite in the entire hedgehog’s series? Well as Hades from Kid Icarus would say: “Sorry my dear pitty pat but things aren’t that simple, like how your assumptions are” Basically what I mean is that I like the music but it is without any doubt NOT my favorite throughout all the Sonic games released. Just as a reminder I said above in the graphics department that I enjoyed Neo Green Hill Zone’s upbeat and tropical like music, if there was one game I could compared this to it’d be like picturing Super Mario Sunshine’s music and having that play in Sonic Advance. Another example of a song I enjoy from this games soundtrack is the acts of the stage Angel Island Zone since it gives you a sense of exhilaration as if you’re just walking across the sky covered with clouds, is this my favorite game for sound out of this trilogy...ehh close but no dice as my favorite music actually comes from Sonic Advance 3 but that’s a story for another time so I’d say the sound
is pretty good and deserving of a 9 out of 10.
Addictiveness: 8 out of 10
Quite sadly however even though this game does have its great points here and there the addictiveness isn't quite as high compared to other features of this game, I’d say it’s nice to pick up maybe every couple months or so. Just like the previous games you do get to select between different characters to play as including: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy however; their gameplay doesn't change that much compared to the adventure games though so that is one downside like I mentioned earlier. You have 6 normal zones to progress through before you get to the final zone of the game which is almost the same amount as Sonic 3 on the Genesis (however this game only has 2 acts while Sonic 3 had 3 acts) so that’s decent enough, although if you collect all 7 chaos emeralds from the special stages in the game then you can travel to an alternate area called the Moon Zone where as you would expect you fight on the Moon as Super Sonic against Robotnik in a final showdown and receive the true ending. One thing I’m glad that they did keep inside this game is a kind of similar version of the Chao Garden from SA & SA2 the only thing that makes it less addictive as before is that fact that you can only take care of one chao at a time...the good news is that if you have SADX or SA2 Battle then you can transfer your chao from those games onto Sonic Advance’s Tiny Chao Garden with a Nintendo Link Cable. The final thing I would like to talk about for this section is the Special Stages as I actually do find them to be quite fun and interesting, why is that well because the stage is new and innovative than ever because it takes a chance by sort of mixing Sonic 2’s special stages with new features as just like in Sonic 2 for the Genesis you must collect a certain amount of rings before you can gain the emerald. In addition to this stage you also have new moves by pressing A or B...the A button will move you forward while changing your pose to being more horizontal in order to get through small gaps, on the other hand the B button will make Sonic do a spin with his board that he travels on and what you must do is whenever you see a flashing spot in the stage you have to press B button at the right time to be awarded more rings. I think that’s enough rambling on here though so time to give the score for the addictiveness which is a solid 8 out of 10 in my opinion.
Story: 3 out of 10
This is where the line starts to hit us really hard for the fact that this story and I should say if it even really has much of a story is really short and not detailed at all in the game or game box/description. I tried digging really deep to find any other information that could help me try to explain the story, but to no avail as I couldn't find much more information at all so I figured it might be best if I described it like this: Everything was peaceful on the lands across Neo Green Hill Zone until the mad scientist Dr. Robotnik (Eggman) has come back seeking the 7 Chaos Emeralds in order to harness their power in order to take over the entire world, but if the Doctor thinks his plans are going to go smoothly then he’d better be prepared for his rival Sonic the Hedgehog alongside his trio of friends Amy Rose, Miles “Tails” Prower, and Knuckles the Echidna who've all come together to foil his plans...so basically it’s about the same story as the Genesis games but with some minor details thrown in. It doesn’t lead up to having a great story like you would expect from a new sonic game and just seems like wasted potential by not creating a different plot, so sadly the story only gets a 3 out of 10 for it seems very lacking in my eyes.
Depth: 8 out of 10
While this game does lose points in some areas about the game, it kind of makes up for them with other perks such as the music & extra features. I already mentioned that this game has a Tiny Chao Garden that you can play at any time while playing by exiting to the menu screen and selecting the garden from the main menu, even though you can only have one chao in your garden at any given time I actually sort of find that to be a good thing for the fact that if you want to focus on leveling one certain chao of yours then you can do it in this garden. If you also want to earn some rings to buy things for your Chao and don’t feel like playing through stages for rings then they have 2 mini games you can play, one of them is really just like a (Rock, Paper, Scissors) type game where you have to hit the correct symbol with your piece in order to knock it away and earn rings however; the second game is more so like a memory game where you have to match together corresponding cards in order to win as much rings as possible. During your adventure through this game you’ll travel through many different environments ranging from tropical beaches to lands covered with winter’s cold chill and even through an engineering fortress as you try and reach the rotten Robuttnik’s position. One last thing I would like to say is if you enjoy the older sonic games where Tails was with you while playing Sonic then I have good news for you because there is actually a secret that will let you play as Tails, what you’re going to want to do is go into the character select screen and enter the following buttons: up, right, down, right, L, right, R, right, finally press A...afterwards select a course then you should’ve have a computer tails follow you just like in Sonic 2. Putting all this information together I’d say that an 8 out of 10 seems pretty fair for the depth of Sonic Advance.
Difficulty: 7 out of 10
Out of all the Sonic Advance games I’d probably say that this one is the hardest in terms of level layout mostly for the fact that if you go too fast you could either end up missing a platform causing you to go back through a certain part of the level again or you end up falling off the map and losing a life in the process. Besides this fact I’d say that this game is pretty solid in its difficulty level as for the most part there aren’t really any cheap deaths, the bosses aren’t mind crushing, and the controls handle perfectly with the handheld so if you didn’t jump in time then all fault lies with you the gamer and not the game itself sort of like other games such as: Super Mario World, Metroid, Sonic & Knuckles and tons of other games. There was really only one boss I had a hard time with and that was the boss at the end of Level 5 Act 2 which is basically a robot version or Knuckles created by Eggman he seems pretty easy at first by just repelling your move away from himself but if you attack him enough times he’ll start to break down and will very often begin to shoot missiles towards you which are basically heat-seeking which can be difficult to avoid especially on your first playthrough. Nothing else that I can really think to say here so let’s give the difficulty rating to which I believe earns an average level of 7 out of 10.
By accepting that helping hand in the beginning it seems one of the world’s greatest gaming icons has been spared the fate of obscurity and was able to be revived to the gaming world once more anew. All though it was a huge shock to many gamers that this game was on a Nintendo handheld, this was just the beginning of Sonic’s adventures on the GBA and it seemed like the only way Sega could continue to keep the blue blur running...was to Advance!

Sonic to the GBA!   drago
Sonic Advance, a game very similar to the classic games but with it's own ideas. New things that won't make classic fans cry. I can't really put my finger on it but Sonic Team did a good job of keeping the old but still having new. The graphics, game play, more characters. It works well. This game seems more like Sonic Team knew what they were doing but wanted to see what the fans felt. In my opinion the Sequel to this game is better. Doesn't mean this is terrible, no but what I'm saying is Sonic Team put in what the people wanted in the 2nd that this didn't have. For me, this game is super fun and every character is unique without being too different. Especially Amy... She's kinda like hard mode.
The graphics in this game could pass for a pixel art DS game. Seriously, they are REALLY good. Each and every platform is really detailed and so are the characters. The animations are smooth and some even have a sort of 3D effect to them. Even backgrounds are super detailed!
I give it an 8!
Despite the music in this game not being that memorable for me they fit really well in with the level they are put in. The levels are creative and so is the music. The first stage sounds like a jungle coast or something, and the second sounds like you're a spy infiltrating a secret base! They really fit well but could be improved if they were a bit better. I give it an 8!
To be honest, when I beat this game when I was younger I didn't REALLY come back to it. I kinda played it a bit but not properly. I didn't find this with Sonic Advance 2 though. That's partly why I like it better. I'm sure other people probably prefer this one but I never really find myself playing this game often. I'd say this is a 6.
There is a bit to do in this game. If you have a Gamecube you can use the Tiny Chao Garden and make chaos. I don't actually have Sonic Adventures or anything really but I have seen this happen. You can hatch eggs in this Tiny Chao garden, One chao at a time mind you, and send them over to the Gamecube. If you have everything for this, try it out. There are quite a few stages in this game and going for 100% is HARD. I'll explain on that later. By the way here's a cheat code... At the Character Select do
↑ On Sonic, ↓ On Tails, L on Knuckles and R on Amy. In that order. Select Sonic and you should hear a Ring sound. Play and you'll see something cool. I'll give Depth a 6.
As I said, this game is hard to 100%. Really hard. The main game isn't hard at all but 100%... Oh ho ho! The special stages have to be found. They are really hard to get to as well! If you do manage to get in you'll realise the controls are weird and don't work so good. I'm not sure on this Vizzed emulator but I know on GBA sp the controls are horrible. You are falling down a half pipe collecting rings. Because of the small resolution it's hard to even see the ring until it hits your face! I'll give difficulty a 5.
To me, Sonic Advance is a game FAR from perfect but it's not bad. It was a step forward for Sonic Team and it shows in the games that came after this. I recommend you play this game for yourself because you may not share my opinion. It's good in it's own right and REALLY imaginative. It doesn't do generic level design or bosses. I give Sonic Advance a 7.5.

Sonic Advance Review   Lexatom
Ah, Sonic Advance. The first game that Sega released on a Nintendo console.  I can imagine, this is how people reacted when they first heard of this news. "Wut dat's nut Sonik where's Sonik!?" However, if you just take the time to actually play through this game, you will see that it's quite enjoyable.  Some even go so far as to compare this to the original Sonic games on the Sega Genesis. So, without further ado, let's get started.
Graphics: 9
For one of the earliest Game Boy Advanced games, being released in 2001, these graphics were outstanding back then for a handheld. Sadly, the graphics haven't aged well compared to today's standards. But, that's to be expected, right? Sometimes, I look at Sonic running around, and I can't help but feel like I see a pixel or two fly off of him. But, maybe it's just me.
Sound: 8
This section is similar to the Graphics section above. The music in this game was amazing back in the day, but it hasn't aged very well, in my opinion.  Again, maybe it's just me, but I think the music gets jumbled up a bit sometimes.
Addictiveness: 9
This game is EXTREMELY addictive. I remember when I was 4 years old, and I was playing this on every single road trip my family went on. Even though I only used Tails because I thought he was the best, it was still very addicting. If you start playing this game, beware, it will eat you up.
Story: 6
I've never really been to fond of the story in Sonic Advance.  The story is as follows.  Doctor Eggman obtains a Chaos Emerald and threatens to rule the world with it, so Sonic and friends go off to stop him. That's pretty much it. Nothing more. You see, I like my stories to be a bit more complicated sometimes. But, hey, if it works, it works.
Depth: 5
The depth of this game may seem a bit low. You only have 4 characters and each with about 7 zones. This may seem like a lot, but usually you breeze through all of the acts in this game.  Even 4 year old me was able to do it. Even so, this is still a sort of lengthy game, due to the collecting of the Chaos Emeralds.
Difficulty: 7
Depending on which character you're playing as, the difficulty differs. Ha, you see what I did there?  The four main characters you can play as are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. Sonic is usually the average difficulty, good for intermediate players. I see Tails as the beginner's choice, because I only played as Tails when I was a kid. Knuckles can also be paired up with Tails' difficulty, but to a slightly higher level. Now, Amy is definitely for hardcore players. She has no spin jump, and the only way to damage enemies is to use her hammer.
Overall: 8
Despite all the flaws this game may seem to have, it still is a great game to play.  Sure, it may not have aged well, but that doesn't mean the game sucks. I would definitely recommend this game to any Sonic fan, or gamer in general. And, with that, I end my review.

Sonic Advance Review   Zircron Swift
Sonic Advance for the GBA.....wait, what am I saying? The GBA is a Nintendo console, while Sonic is a Sega character. Surely their console war since the 8-bits hasn't ceased yet, has it? Well, this might be due to the fall of the underrated Dreamcast and the release and popularity of the PS2 at the time, but that's antother story. The story today is a Sonic game that is rather enjoyable. One look at the over and the screen shots on the back made Sonic so epic, I had to get this game. If only his arrogance wasn't in his recent games, but I digress.
Well, the story seems to be rather simple. Eggman is searching for the seven Chaos Emeralds, and it's better if you find them before Eggman. Meh. You get to pick one of four characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and.....Amy...? Ok, I guess that't ok, seeing as they let a big purple cat as a playerable character in Sonic Adventure that allowed you to fish. Each character has a different ability they can use to their advantage. Sonic is super fast, of course, tales can fly for a certain amount of time to reach greater hieghts, kuckles can glide for as long as their is open air, and Amy can....jump without spinning and can swing her hammer. She also jumps lower.
You have to run through six different zones with two acts and a boss at the end of every second act. Each one is Eggman in his Egg-Capsule, with a range of several different ways in trying to kill you. You collect rings, these act as your life, in a way. Get hit and you lose all your rings, wth a chance to pick up what you dropped. If you get hit without any rings, then you die. You can also break open these television screens to gain power-ups, such as shoes that make him run faster or invincibility for a short period of time. The level design is pretty sweet. the first zones allow you to run at high speeds, but the second zone requires some more diligent platforming skills.
Somewhere hidden well in the level, there is a super-spring of some kind that will launch you so far in the air that you will free-fall for a while. Use this time to collect as many rings as you can, and if you collect enough, you'll be rewarded with a Choas Emerald. Find these can be as easy as a poptart, or as devilish as finding poptarts themselves. You only get one shot, so if you fail, you can either die, or restart the level. I do believe pressinf A, B Start and Select at the same time will bring you back to the main menu screen on a GBA (called a soft-reset), and this helps a lot in case I failed this bonus stage.
The graphics are really pleasing to the eye. The attention to detail in the characters, the background and the level itself is pretty amazing. The colours are very bright and colourful, and are far from boring. The way they created Sonic makes him look really awesome, which is odd, as I'm normally put off by his arrogants to appreciate the character itse;f (which in all fairness is epic to the core). Maybe it's due to the fact that he doesn't talk in this one....
The controls are very fluid, although they might take a little getting used to at first,The music is really catchy. The title screen music is nice and welcoming, while the character select music has a nice beat that normally puts me off. The level music suits the mood rather well and the boss music is rather threatening, leaving you to defeat Eggman alone. The levels seem to offer a bundle of secrets to those who seek it. New paths and hidden power-ups wait you if you feel adventerous. You might even come across them if you user certain characters. The game offers some challenge to new players, and also offers a greater challenge to those who seek it. It's in the options menu if you feel the game is too easy.
But there is one thing that makes this game sticks out to me more than anything is the Chao Garden. This allows you to raise an adorable chao in a garden, simply put. You collect rings from the game to buy food to help it grow, and if you save up enough, a Rubber Duckie, a musical intrument, and even a T.V. If your ever ger bored of the main game, you can collect rings via two mini-games, which might include you to throw red and green balls at the celling to clear them up or playing a game of rock-paper-scissors in a fast paced timing game, both of which are super-addictive to play and are rather fun.
You can buy a new egg, as well. The colour is completely random as far as I'm concerned. The chao might say something that you can only say AWWWWW! ^^ to, like "one day, I will take over the world" or something like that. He might try and swim. If he doesn't have the required level to swim, he might struggle, so help him out, will ya? You can upload everything from that game onto Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 for the GameCube, but that won't help much on Vizzed, sorry. I remember when I used to spend hours at a time feeding chao on both gaming systems, slowly working my way to get my three chaos Chao, I became a master at raising Chao (or so I thought).
Overall, I give this game a 9.2/10       With superb graphics, great music, awesome controls and overall enjoyablity, this is one of the finest 2D sonic games I have ever player......ok, it's the only 2D Sonic game I've player, and never really planned on playing another one. But it's a superb game, and any sonic fan will enjoy this game to a million bits, so long as the hard core fans get out over him being on a Nintendo console.

Sonic Advance   supersonic1998
10 :)
Sonic Advance is totally awesome. It's one of the best Sonic games from 2000-2010. I've already beaten it, but since it has 4 characters, Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles, you can beat it 4 TIMES. Playing the game with any character is fun but when you play as Tails, it's easier since he can fly almost everywhere. It has everything you've come to expect out of an older Sonic game and then some. The only thing that kinda bothers me is that some of the levels are difficult, even for me and I kinda consider myself pretty good with Sonic games. Sonic Advance has excellent, catchy music, great gameplay, and awesome secondary moves. I like how in this game, not only is there spin-dash, but there's also the cool secondary moves. Tails uses an attack where he spins and his tails hit an object, Sonic spins, and I haven't checked out Knux or Amy yet, but I bet they're cool. Now, for people who've beaten Sonic 1 (1991), you'll notice that some of the original music is in there (just go to Sound Test. It even has Amy dancing like in Knuckles Chaotix on the 32X when the cheat code is activated).:):) The level design is great with noice graphics (for the GBA anyways). This game is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO addicting (if you're into Sonic games like I am). One can literally sit down and play this for hours, even after you've beaten it. The story is basically the same as the original story: Eggman is trying to take over the world, Sonic and friends have to save the world from him, you gotta collect the Chaos Emeralds, yatta yatta yatta, etc etc, blah blah blah, you get my drift. Another problem is how short the game is, but that's a problem SEGA's had since Sonic 1, so I'm not gonna go in depth on thata one(because Sonic runs sooo fast and clears stages in like less than 5 mins. a pop, the game goes quick). One of the really good things about Sonic Advance is the controls. It never really takes much to figure out how to play Sonic games like Sonic 1-3, and it doen't take much in Sonic Advance. Another thing I like is the Tiny Chao Garden where you can feed and raise a Chao. If you are a Sonic fan who has a GBA, the RGR, or a GBA emulator, this is a MUST HAVE. If you, for some reason or another, own neiter of these items, download/buy one. NOW. If you've got an emulator(not the RGR) you'll have to find a place to download Sonic Advance. But its easier just to get the RGR and play it here. Supersonic1998, signing off.

"Fastest Hedgehog around faster than the speed of sound Sonic's number one. Sonic's on the run.Sonic gotta go fast! Gotta go faster faster fa-fa-fa faster!". Sonic advanced easily one of the most memorable and best Sonic games I've ever played. Although the story line is lacking and doesn't give much of a back story or reason to play from the beginning, this game is still enjoyable and entertaining. In Sonic advanced you are given the opportunity to play as four Sonic characters Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Amy( although I played through the entire game as Sonic). Now going back to the story, there was no given back story you just select your character and dive right into the world of Sonic, running around going insane speeds and collecting rings and beating up on egg man and his crazy contraptions.
The graphics seen and experienced in Sonic Advanced are excellent in detail and portrayed in amazing detail in both stage design and character design. The stages are creative and animators did a good job on utilizing colors seen in stages to set the mood for the stage  and appeal to the stages overall theme. Sonic and Egg man (and I'm assuming the rest of the playable characters) facial and body animation is well detailed and can easily be made out what character is who.
The sound that can be heard in Sonic Advanced is pretty clear in sound quality and can be heard nicely. The sound alternates throughout and sets the mood for the stages, like for example on the casino/Vegas themed stage the music is  fast paced and joyful and makes the player feel like they are actually Sonic running around in a joyful casino Vegas stage. The characters do talk and there voice and dialog can be heard clearly. When you attack objects like Egg man's machines you can hear the damage being dealt like a machinery malfunction sound kinda like a crash boom sound and that also can heard clearly.
I was addicted to Sonic Advanced for a little while there simply because the stages got wilder i& fun in theme and more exciting as the game went on and what also contributed to me being addicted to the game was the fact that Egg man's machines got more complex and better as the game went on and more challenging to beat and out maneuver.  I'm pretty likely to replay Sonic advanced though because I enjoyed the level creativity and design.
The story in Sonic Advanced was a little lacking and it didn't provide a back story line/plot at the beginning of the game, you just selected your player and jumped right into the world of Sonic. In the game you play through many unique and creative stages none to are alike and you battle Egg man ever two stages you beat and for each stage Egg man's machines get stranger and wackier as the game goes.

The depth in Sonic Advanced, well the game is pretty long with alot of stages that are of decent length and takes a moderate amount of time to beat each stage. Boss battles are also long and it takes time to figure out a way to maneuver pass and deal damage to Egg man's machines. Sonic Advanced allows players the chance to take on Egg man as any of the four main characters in the Sonic franchise Sonic, Knuckles, Amy and Tails and each one has there own unique attack moves and abilities.
Sonic Advanced was fairly difficult to beat, Egg man machines where very complex and finding gaps in there defenses is difficult because he is on offense while you try to defend your self and find gaps in his defenses. Although the boss battles are difficult, running trough the stages were basically a cake walk.
Overall Sonic Advanced is a game I would recommend to anyone that is a fan of the Sonic franchise. The graphics are simply stunning in quality and stage designs are enjoyable and provide plenty of entertainment.

Sonic at his roots.   RedHotToddy
In 1991,Sega released the Sega genesis. At the time of it's launch, there were a lot of great games, and one of those games was sonic the hedgehog. The story of a blue hedgehog named sonic who must stop the evil dr ivo robotnik from turning all of the animals into robots. This game truly defined "Blast processing" A unique feature that the genesis rival the super Nintendo did have. Then came a saying called "Sega does what nintendon't.Then eleven years later, sonic got his first title on the game boy advance. But was this game as fast paced
as the original titles for the sega genesis?
Story-6/10
Ok I'm going to be honest,I do not actually know the plot of this game. The game just opens up with eggman and then they show the playable characters then we get on with the game...WAT? How are we supposed to now the story of this game? Oh well...
Gameplay-8/10
Sonic advance plays like all of the genesis titles, except now you get to play as tails, knuckles, and amy. Then you get into the game,if you haven't noticed, you will need rings in order to survive in the game, these can be obtained from the ground or in boxes. Each of the characters have their own abilities, sonic can do a little attack if you press A in the air, tails can fly, knuckles can glide onto walls, and Amy can use her hammer. Most of the enemies surprisingly return from the genesis titles, the crab guy,the monkey, etc.Well theres all I can say about the gameplay.
Graphics-9/10
Considering this game was released in 2002(One year after the GBA was released)It looks really good! But the same sprites are used for all 3 advance games! Also super Mario bros z.And the backgrounds look OK.
Sound-8/10
Sega is known for their catchy music i:e super monkey ball, and this game is a huge example.Such places as the beach or the glaciers have
quite catchy music, and like always we get awesome sfx,i:e the ring sound we all know and love,or the box effect. It's up there with super monkey ball as Sega's catchiest songs.
Addictiveness-8/10
Like all genesis games, sonic advance is quite addicting, except there are no bonus stages,a major aspect of the original games. At least this game has one thing that made all the other games shine,BLAST PROCESSING!
Depth-7/10
Don't think your gonna finish this game and never play it again, there is some replay value, there's a time attack mode where you can beat your best time or a tiny chao garden where you can care for your own chao or even a vs mode.So there is some depth to sonic advance.
Difficulty-4/10
Ok I admit it,sonic advance is not that hard of a game actually, the only hard part of the game is some of the boss fights,i mean i needed a walkthrough of the boss in the ice world! But now you know why i rated the difficulty a four.
Overall-7.4/10
In my opinion, sonic advance is a great way to bring sonic back to his roots,it's got flair, charm, blast processing everything. Oh well bye!

Sonic Advance: The Gameboy Advance Game of Greatness   SonicFan2013
Hello everyone! I saw your replies from the last review for Sonic & Knuckles. After reading them, I wanted to show what I can truly do on this one for Sonic Advance. I start by telling you the basics. You can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy as they try to stop Dr.Eggman from ruling South Island. This game came out in 2001. This game is also the first Sonic Game created for a Nintendo console. This game has a few modes. The story, Time Attack, and The Tiny Chao Garden. The overall rating for me is a 8.5. I really like this game, but there is some things that I don't like that I will say later. Now time to start on the graphics.
Graphics: 10! The graphics were great. I loved them. It was so better than Super Mario Advance Graphics. The graphics was the best graphics in a Gameboy Advance game I played.
Sound: 10! The sound was great! It had some awesome music. It even redid some music from older games like Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2. So, this music is one of the reasons why this game is great.
Addictiveness: 6. I would say that sometimes that I would come play again, but I would not play this over and over again like this is the best game ever.
Story: 8. The story is very simple. Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy to stop Eggman from taking over South Island.
Depth: 6. The game is not that big. And isn't that long. It is pretty short.
Difficulty: 5. This game is half easy, Half hard. Act 2 of the zone before the final zone was one of the levels I got stuck on. I gotten so frustrated on that one. I really got mad at the game because of that one level. But after a while, I finally finished the level and the whole game.
That is the review. But I want to give you another thing I don't like about the game. It is the Tiny Chao Garden. That mode is boring! I just really like the story so much better. Thanks for reading and watch out for my next review!

The game is not so bad. There's. but there's more stuff that keeps it interesting than Amy beating Those badniks so the badniks don't see the light of day! the graphics are okay, but the game play.. needs some easy stuff. Difficulty 6 for me. it retains the original story, just with a SLIGHT twist. examples. Gravity Based Areas, Depths of secrets, sonic surviving the cold, cold, COLD water. but the bosses are just a little hard.
But there's just a big problem, sonic Does not get alot of games like this, but he sure seems happy 'bout sonic generations! NOVEMBER!! 1ST!!!!
Anyways, the end!

This is a fun game it is better than 2 but not as fun as 3.ok story is the same as always on sonic games some evil villain(in this case Dr. Egg man)is doing some evil thing.in most sonic games you can only play 1 character(usually sonic)but in this 1 there are a few.this is a hard game like the sonic games are but that is what makes it fun if it's easy no one would play it right so I hope people add their own thoughts to this post I hope this is good for my first review good-bye

Of all the Sonic Advance games with Amy Rose, in this one, she's just the worst when it comes to attacking - and she CANNOT roll up into a ball like the others can.

I managed to 100% this game on REAL hardware with all 4 Main characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy). Easier than Sonic Advance 2 in terms of my not needing Lavel Maps or guidance to get through it and the Special Stages.
