“The Blue Blur’s return to the GBA with some special surprises in store”   sonicthehedgeho..
It’s been one whole year since the heroic hedgehog had joined Nintendo’s latest handheld the GBA (Game Boy Advance) to share with the world his newest adventures in a totally different land. His popularity was back and booming with progression ever since that day but; it was only going to get better as this following year he was going to be thrown into another wacky adventure and this time he’s not holding back on any of his way past cool tricks! However, this attack won’t be as calm as before for the fact that Dr. Robotnik has captured and held captive all of Sonic’s friends from before including a new animal never seen before in the franchise...is this the end for the echidna Knuckles? Will this rose of Amy’s wilt away before she even has the chance of escaping? How will Miles be able to look back to his greatest friend whom gave him his own special name “Tails”? Looks like this hedgehog truly must be a Sonic Boom and break the sound barrier in time in order to reach as well as rescue his friends from the mad doctor once more!............Well what are you waiting for I told you time is running out so LET’S JUICE!
Graphics: 9 out of 10
Normally I would drop the score when a game re-uses the same exact graphics for its characters but I don’t think they could’ve made the graphics any better than they already were, now if you’re to consider other factors of the graphics for this game such as the backgrounds and new movements for the characters (which I’ll talk more into detail about that later in the review) then you’ll see that they actually stand up pretty well allowing you to sort of get a feeling of the environment that you’re playing in. One of the best examples I can give is the Music Plant Stage which if you’ve played any Mario Kart game then you most likely know how colorful Rainbow Road is, then basically picture and area like that but with platform that make musical sounds and piano board in some parts of the level. Another Example could be the Techno Base Zone where basically it’s kind of like being inside a computer chip with its different tones of green and dark atmosphere while trying to maintain your speed before you lose control and fall down into a deep abyss of binary coding (sort of like the matrix) well that last part is just a joke but either way I do enjoy the look of this level quite a lot as it gives off a nice atmosphere so I’d say that the graphic quality of this game deserves an even 9 out of 10.
Sound: 8 out of 10
As you might know from reading my previous review of Sonic Advance, I talked about how Sonic games were being made onto a Nintendo handheld and explained how just because it was on their competitors hardware that It wouldn't’t sound horrid at all but not exactly the best either. I’m kind of torn between which games music I like better the previous game’s music or this game’s soundtrack because both of them are very well placed and fit each scenario nicely, I do feel though after a lot of thought as well as a check of each games music one last time I feel that this game tops the original Sonic Advance just slightly in the music department. With Techno Base’s frantic and chaotic like beat/touch, to Sky Canyon’s peaceful and a touch of ambiance feel, alongside the Boss theme with its darker and more serious tone that its predecessor as it beats your mood up so you feel empowered in order to defeat Robotnik’s machines and save your friends. The sound effects haven’t changed all that much from the previous game though so I can’t say much about them meaning this is where I should end of this section by giving the score for sound....which is an 8 out of 10
Addictiveness: 8 out of 10
If you’ve played the original Sonic Advance then you’ll probably noticed something that they’ve improved drastically from before....that is the speed of the characters in the game, because they didn’t use to go very fast at top speed but this game made it right and you literally blast off once you reach your fasted speed. So much so that you end up having after images shown behind you while you’re running (sort of like Hyper Sonic from Sonic 3 & Knuckles). Although if you think that’s the only thing that they’ve improved on to make this game so much more addictive then crack out your box of brain age to calculate again as this games story *which I’ll be explaining later on* has more depth compared to the first game which just throws you in without any idea of what’s going on. Another interesting change is the Special Stages which have been remade to follow the same basic idea of collecting a certain amount of rings in the allotted amount of time however; the layout is based this time more so on the Sonic 3/& Knuckles Blue Sphere stages but with just a bunch of rings and ring multipliers, personally this is my favorite special stage concept out of all the games in the Advance series. But even with how much I loved the stage itself here’s the crux/hard point of the matter and I’m sure many people will agree with me that actually getting to the special stage has become so very ANNOYING in this game as unlike before where you just had to find a spring in order to enter the area, in this game you must find 7 Special Rings as this game calls them which are located at various places in a level and you must collect ALL of them before you can enter the stage as if you miss even one “well too bad for you then” the game says. Lastly the final thing I’d like to bring up once more for the addictiveness section is the Tiny Chao Garden to which I know you might be thinking “Well, it couldn't’t have changed all that much from before so what’s the point” You’re partially right and partially wrong as yes not a lot has changed from the original Tiny Chao Garden but they did add one new thing to this game’s garden which is a new game to play instead of the Rock, Paper, Scissors like game that you’d play to earn rings to buy things for your chao with a trampoline type game where you must launch Cheese the Chao into the air to collect all the rings in the level before he falls to the ground 3 times otherwise it’s game over.  Other than all of this nothing else can really be said here so let’s move onto the next section by rating this particular section with a 8 out of 10 rating.
Story: 6 out of 10
Sure this game's story may not be as impressive as Adventure 2’s or the game gear Sonic 2’s storyline but it’s still miles better than the previous game's. In this game Dr. Robotnik has come back to take revenge upon Sonic while trying to rule the world and he’s taken many precautions and kidnapped Sonic Friends: “Miles “Tails Prower the fox, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy the love warped Hedgehog” this is unbeknown to our blue peace-loving fur ball at the time. Sonic soon returns to find that his friends alongside the peaceful animals of Leaf Forest, immediately he determines that the mad doctor is at his rotten schemes again and dashes off to rescued his friends while saving the once calm land. Along the way he finds that a young rabbit by the name of Cream has been taken hostage by Robotnik for a reason that he couldn't’t figure out later she thanks him for saving her and as he leaves Cream talks about needing to save her mother....could there be a connection here? Will Sonic be triumphed in his quest to save his friends, will we also learn more about the peculiar new animal friend named Cream the Rabbit you just have to find out by playing the game! It sets a good mood for the player and gets them enticed into the game, however this most definitely isn’t even close to the original Sonic Games on the Genesis or Dreamcast however; it still holds up somewhat well today so to be fair I’d say a low middle of the road 6 out of 10 is acceptable for the story.
Depth: 9 out of 10
Now if you enjoyed Sonic Advance’s number of levels and wish there was more to it then you’ll most likely enjoy this game a lot more that reason as unlike before there are 7 main levels each with 2 acts and a boss stage at the end also with a Final Zone which can be selected after finishing Zone 7, although it doesn’t end there as if you’re able to collect all chaos emeralds with Sonic while having beaten the game with all the other characters (no emeralds) then you’ll be able to reach a Secret Level known as True Area 53 where you can then fight Eggman in the airless confinement of space and receive the true ending. In case you may have forgotten while reading the review this far I mentioned that they kept the Tiny Chao Garden from the first game in the series and how they changed one of the mini-games to a ring collecting game, and to be truthfully honest I seem to enjoy this games garden a lot more. You may also be wondering if there is anything you can unlock through normal means by beating this game or completing certain objectives? Yes, there are actually quite a few things hidden that you can achieve by doing finishing certain goals so here’s basically a list of things you can earn if you do the following objectives: First off the sound test mode (earned by beating the game with 2 characters both having all the emeralds, and 6 additional songs if you beat the True Area Zone with Sonic) Secondly; you can unlock the Boss Mode in time attack (by beating the game with 3 characters all having the emeralds) Finally; you can unlock a certain hedgehog (by having completed the game with all available characters having each emerald). If we are to look at everything we’ve talked about as well as shown so far, then I’d say this game can be quite long if you’re dedicated to unlocking everything and if not then you’re still in for quite a long adventure either way so personally asking me I’d say a 9 out of 10 would be an appropriate score for Sonic Advance 2’s amount of depth.
Difficulty: 9 out of 10
As much as I may like this game I will say it can be face smashingly hard at some times and usually requires your full attention because even though I said that I loved having more speed in this game compared to before, using that same speed at wrong times can lead to your downfall as there are several spots which may require you to grab onto a certain object or bounce off one but if you’re moving too fast you might end up passing it by or undershooting it because you tried to slow down after seeing it...which in turn can cause you to lose a life. The bosses at least to me also seem to be buffed up in difficulty almost requiring you to go and grab rings almost every 10 seconds or so, in case you have a curious mind and would like to know some examples of the difficulty with these so called Area Enemies I’ll give 3 examples of what I mean. I think I will start off with the boss that gave me the most amount of trouble when I first played this game as a child that would be the level boss of Sky Canyon, why is this machine so hard to defeat from the rest well because it may seem easy at first but half-way through the fight it can use 2 moves that can instantly kill you EVEN IF YOU HAVE RINGS! Basically what you want to watch out for is during its second phase is when its hand starts swinging around in a circle or when you’re really close to the machine and it’s about to slap your character. My second pick for the hardest would probably be Egg Utopia’s boss as this fight uses the same anti-gravity scenario that was used in the previous acts of this stage, sure it doesn’t seem that hard right...well the thing that’s hard is you don’t know when he leaves the screen what side he’ll come out on as it could either be the top or bottom. Down to the final example now which is Ice Paradise’s boss which is easy enough at first because you just have to hit the ship while bouncing off a disc and dodging bombs that he’ll drop a bomb about every 3 ½ seconds, just like the others though once he gets hit enough his speed will increase on how fast he drops the bomb as it was increase close only 1 second, so you really have to keep track of the bombs speed while trying to attack the doctor at the same time. This game is probably the hardest in difficulty out of all the advance games but I say it’s still fun to pick up every once in a while you just have to remember to take things carefully while playing though which sadly leaves me to give this game a 9 out of 10 for difficulty.
The truths of this games events have been revealed to you dear fellow gamers, your friends have been kidnapped be the evil doctor in order to take over the land. You of course can’t let any more harm come towards your friends so just like our hedgehog we must dash off to rescue them I mean they are our friend aren’t they so let’s juice and cut it loose. The question is...will you advance forward for the second time? Will Sonic Advance 2 times in a row? Only one way to find out by playing this game, enjoy your adventure young travelers...

Sonic is back for the Advanced, better than ever!   Kevinmonitor
Ah, Sonic. Our blue speedy is here, along with his friends. This has been my favorite franchise ever since, I've been playing lots of it's games on Vizzed. And the Advance series is still something I love, even though we've stepped into the 3D game styles. And the second installment seems promising, it pleased me alot. So, I'm going to review Sonic Advance 2 tonight.
To tell the truth, I've never been so pleased after playing the game. I can spend hours playing this game over and over with all the characters and try to do everything possible in it. SEGA had truly made me proud with the Advance series. There is nothing in this game I'm not happy of. So, let's see why I'm so pleased of this game!
Graphics: 9 : The graphics were perfectly fine and fit for a GBA platformer. It's just like the first game's graphics, but they made some visible changes. And trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Sound: 9 : Every zone in the game always have their own themes, and none of them are bad. Some sound very catchy and make my ears relax, some sound very energetic, like it's telling you to clear this zone as fast as you can. Every theme sounds different, which makes them special. It is truly great, I hope SEGA could develop the music in it's games more nicely.
Story: 9 : Story was OK: Sonic had planned to leave his "Hero" occupation for a little bit. However, as he was on his break, he sees that Eggman is on his way to no good, and planning no nice stuff either. Even worse, he also has a poor rabbit and her Chao held prisoner! These are Cream the Rabbit and Cheese the Chao - Cream's mother is in trouble too, and she must help her. And so, Sonic sets off to rescue the rabbit and her chao and stop Eggman's evil plans! The story includes a new character, which, in my opinion makes it more interesting.
Difficulty: 8 : Sonic Advance 2 is one tough game to beat! Some acts are very challenging and requires skill to beat, while some are pretty much,... complicated or/and confusing, which in my opinion, the Techno Base and Sky Canyon have them. I think that just makes the game better and more interesting and fun to beat. (Cream is a *boss cheater* with her broken Cheese-throwing ability though... Muahahaha.)
Depth: 9 : Though being only the second installment on this three-part series, this game has already offered A WHOLE LOT. Special rings? Special stages? Time attacks? Lots of tricks? A wide sound test list? A total of eight zones, not counting one extra? A goshdarn boss cheater?(you know who right?) A garden where you can raise your own chao? And even a special unlockable character that is not in the game cover? Heck yeah! You can play for hours and hours to enjoy all these!
Addictiveness : 10 : I can't take it if I play this game in only one go. I incredibly love this game, and whenever I have free time I'll sit in front on my computer, making Sonic (or anyone else) run, jump and trick themselves through the platforms, enemies and springs. This game is addictive and also undoubtably my favorite.
Overall : 9 : The Sonic games, especially the Advance series never fail to amuse and interest me, even this game. I love Sonic, the blue speed hedgehog and his loyal friends/lover. I hope Sonic Team and SEGA will continue to make incredible games like this.
Woo, my second review.

Sonic Advance 2   Deadend136
If you use the space bar this game is really easy to get
through. So this game is a part of the Sonic titles and it is actually very fun
to play through. You are able to unlock characters which are: Tails, Cream, and
Knuckles. Personally I love using Cream the most because of her ability which
you can use for every character if you press the B button that is most likely
the “X” key on your keyboard. The music is addicting, the stages are a lot of
fun, graphics are amazing, and the story is just nonexistent in this game. So let’s
begin!
Graphics and Sound- Rate 9
Alright so I gave the graphics and sound a 9 for a couple of
key reasons:

1) Graphics and sound varied throughout the game which is

great and for games in general it is sometimes never like that.

2) Each stage’s music is spot on! I do not usually like

playing through games with soundtracks the game uses but this game is one always listen to. The music in each level is really great and goes with the

game play just so well! So if you are not holding the space bar while playing
this game I would definitely check out the music which varies by stage.

3) Graphics are amazing for game titles on this console and
this title offers different graphics which do get a little repetitive but the
maps are so well put together that it really does not matter.

So Graphics and Sound deserve a 9 because of how well placed

the soundtracks were throughout the game and also how the graphics were almost
perfect considering the console it is on.

Addictiveness- Rate 8
I always find myself going back and playing this game at
least once every couple of weeks. The game is not a very long and drawn out game and the game is not about leveling up characters or unlocking different
abilities which is actually a relief being a hardcore RPG gamer. This game
could be a little difficult depending on which character you are playing as and
the stages you are on for example Sonic and the sky stage really do not mix
very well. So this game is very addictive and again I do play this game every couple
of weeks. (Sometimes just for the music and to play as Cream)

Story and Depth- Rate 3

The story is surprisingly nonexistent. So if you are the

type of gamer who plays games just for the great story this title is not for
you by any means! The depth was low because there are only a small handful of
stages which you need to play through with all 4 characters to fully beat the
game.

Difficulty- Rate 7

What can I say the difficulty was not incredibly hard but

you can be very frustrated if you are using a character which the map does not go well with for a good example would be again, Sonic and the sky stage. The
first 3 different stages (Forest, Volcano, and The Music stage) you could
easily get through with each character by holding the space bar. However, if
you choose to I suggest for boss battles not holding the space bar down until
the boss is beaten.

I hope you all enjoyed my review and I look forward to all
the feedback!

Sonic Advance 2 (Game Boy Advance)   Eddy88
Speed in your Pocket.
The story of the Nintendo and Sega's relationship is quite curious... They began as enemies on the famous "Console war" of the 90's, which featured the Sega Genesis (Megadrive outside of the USA) and the Super Nintendo. (It may sound impossible or stupid... But the discussions between people about which one of both was the best still exist) On those days, they used to attack each other pets or games through commercials (Sega) or the games (Nintendo). Back then, nobody would expect in what would this war end... With both being "Good friends".
That's it... With Sega making the games, and Nintendo putting it's License on them. Due to this we could see something that any kid or teenager would think of in those years: Sonic in a Nintendo console... The Game Boy Advance was one of the many consoles of the company that had the luck of have some games of the Hedgehog. One of these games is Sonic Advance 2, released one year after the great Sonic Advance... Wanna know if this game was great as his predecessor? Well, Keep reading the today's review, then!
Story: A few months after another crushing defeat of Robotnik (or "Eggman" for some) Done with some help of his friends, Sonic decides to take a brief rest of his "Hero" activities, and explore new lands and, maybe, Have some relax time on the same... That's how he gets to this island, whose name is unknown. Our blue Hedgehog decides to stay and spend some days there... One day, while running through the Island's forest, he hears a claim of help. Once getting to where the scream came from, he sees a Giant mechanic hand, holding a young rabbit and his Chao pet, and behind the Hand, he sees Robotnik, controlling the same. After this brief encounter, The madmen escapes with both prisoners under his power. The Hedgehog soon realizes that he's Searching, once again, The Chaos Emeralds. (This time, to power up his latest Space Station: The Egg Utopia) Then, He goes after the madman, to rescue the kidnapped rabbit and chao, and stop him and another of his "world conquer" plans. (6/10)
Graphics: Excellent, Sprites are big and colorful , Every character has it's own animations (Which are not so good, not so bad, these are just in the middle) Backgrounds are okay, simple... But okay... The only bad thing about graphics is that the sprites are the same of the previous Sonic Advance, without any noticeable differences. (8/10)
Sound: As usual on Sonic titles... The music here is excellent, every Zone has a different style of music, which fits pretty well with the same itself. Nothing remarkable on the SFX... It's the same of the previous title. (7/10)
Addictiveness: Quite addictive game in my opinion... If you like Sonic games (or just going fast) this is your game. (7/10)
Depth: If you have played a Sonic game before, you should know what to expect here... If you don't know, I'll tell you: The objective of every Act, is getting to end of the same in the shortest possible time... Not an easy task, since there will be enemies (The badniks) and obstacles (Pits or Spikes). That will attempt to stop you... Luckily, there are items that will help you to accomplish your mission, one of these are the famous Rings, that protect the character from some hazards (The exceptions: Pits and getting crushed). By getting hit when having these, you'll just lose them. But if you're hit without having them, you'll lose a life... If you manage to get 100 of these, you'll gain an Extra Life. There are also Glass containers that carry different items (Such as Rings, a Shield, Invincibility, or the Speed Shoes that give the character a brief speed boost). After finishing the two acts of every zone, a Boss will appear, and if you defeat it, you'll pass to the next zone. There are also, scattered through every act, Special Rings (7 in each act to be exact) once collecting them and after finishing the zone, You'll enter to the Special Zone, in where you'll be able to get the Chaos Emeralds. (The objective on these is getting 300 Rings within 2 minutes.) Before playing the game you can choose the character you want to play with. At the beginning, Sonic is the only available character. But, you can unlock more characters during the game, each of these with different abilities, attacks and Special Moves... Nothing complicated really. (8/10)

Difficulty: Many say that is the hardest game of the "Advance" series... Well, they are right, this game is pretty hard. Reacting can be hard if your character is going at top speed, and Special Rings are pretty hard to find. You'll need to practice a lot if you want to complete the game with all the Emeralds. (9/10)
Final Rating: 8
This one of the best Sonic games out there, even with his high difficulty... Fun to play and pretty entertaining. If you have chance, check it out!

Sonic Advance 2   ross4587
This game personally is pretty decent. It is a significant upgrade in comparison to Sonic Advance in that there are more levels, tougher bosses and a new playable character. Cream the Rabbit is now a playable character, and one advantage is that throughout the game, she will be accompanied by her best friend chao, Cheese, who can take out the bad guys by charging at them. This Game Boy Advance game is one of the earlier Sonic games in this system and pretty much familiarises everyone with the Sonic we all know today. Sonic hasn't changed since. Some story-plots never change, do they? Dr. Eggman again wants to take over the world, and this time he means business, kidnapping Cream's mother is certainly putting out a statement of intent. But first, Sonic has to rescue, or in Knuckles' case defeat, all his friends en route to a final showdown with Eggman. Special stars will have to be collected throughout certain levels, giving a character the chance to claim a Chaos Emerald, which if all are collected, can unlock several different things, including Amy. Complete the game and collect seven emeralds as all of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Cream to unlock the latter. The game can be difficult, as now there are some new moves that a character will have to master, and the bosses can be very hard, especially the Dry Canyon one that Sonic first fights Knuckles, who is once again tricked by Eggman. Sonic can also become his super form at the end, leading to a typical Sonic-style finish.

Sonic Advance 2: Pretty good   tj4bigred
Okay, let me start by saying:
I don't get the crazy Sonic fandom. I own this game and it is a pretty fun game. It's not Mario, Metroid, Final Fantasy, or Pokemon quality, but I'm reviewing it because it does deserve some mention as one of the better Sonic games since it all started.
This game is your typical Sonic game. Run around, collecting rings, killing enemies, avoid spikes, loop de loop, tralala, OOH GIANT RING, twisty thing, battle a fat guy. Got it? It really is fun, but I don't see why it is so appealing to some people. Still if you like Sonic its pretty cool.
Graphics
Pretty much on par with anything else you'd seen on the system. The enemies are cute, and Sonic has got a pretty sneery look on his face throughout the levels which I think is awesome. Levels aren't eyesores, but they aren't mind-blowing to say the least. However it is better than similar platformers around its time and the special stage at the end looks really nice. It earns a 7.
Sound
I love the music to this game. More than most GBA games, and even some DS games. The music is catchy, boss battles have this wonderful, tense music to them, and even the title screen has a great beat. I would play this game over and over to hear the music. Don't get me started on the Music Plant world. 10, deservedly so.
Addictiveness
The boss battles are fun to replay, and earning faster scores in time trials is quite addicting. The Secret Stage is a blast, though. I also do enjoy Music Plant because it sounds awesome. It really is a fun level to replay. Not much more can be said, but I definitely give it a 9.
Story
Collecting emeralds, save the world, eh I don't know. Really not much of a story, so I won't rate it. If you liked the weak attempt at a back-story than that's fine, but I really wasn't in to it. Meh.
Depth
Well, once the game is beat the replayability is almost entirely time trials, and beating high scores, plus one bonus stage. Not great, but there are eight worlds to conquer. Each world has two levels and a boss battle against Mr. Robotnik. Plus you can be Sonic, Tails, Cream, and I think Knuckles and Amy. I give it a 8 at least, but I'm probably being generous.
Difficulty
This game is tough. Honestly one of the tougher platformers I've ever played. Boss battles are fine difficulty-wise, but Sky Canyon is "tear-my-hair-out" tough. It takes some getting used to, but the controls are easy enough, and once mastered is significantly easier. Still, very tough and mastering is no easy feat. 9.
Overall, I think this is a pretty good game. You can really get in to it, and it passes the time. I wish there were more to do, though. Not by any means my favorite GBA game, but I'm lucky to own it, and would suggest it anytime you're in the RGR with nothing to do.

The Best Sonic Game Ever   youssefbouras
Sonic Advance 2, I'm in love with this game it nailed the sonic formula every thing about this game is great.
Okay let's talk about the graphics : This game is so smooth the animation is really great the game run smoothly and the graphics are really good looking.
The game play : Its your typical Sonic game you run at the speed of sound to defeat the evil and this something I really in this game in the other Sonic game you are being punished for going fast but in this game you are being awarded for going fast, It has the elements of a basic platform game, The controls are great, Something that I don't like in this game is the difficulty the game is not that hard some time I can complete a stage just by pressing the left button which not very cool.
Now the music : Something for sure that the Sonic games always have great music which but this is game doesn't have great music it has perfect music .
Overall I give this game 9.5/10 this game is awesome it's not perfect but the thing great about this game that it nailed the Sonic formula.

Sometime within the month of May, 2020 or so, I beat the game again as Cream the Rabbit. I've successfully maxed out the game's point counter and have now unlocked Amy Rose.

As of February, 2020, I now own a physcial copy of this game - I've played through it in its entirety as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Only Cream the Rabbit is left to be done now. I have plans to try to max out the point counter - it is possible to do so.

My problem has been beating the game with all characters; but then the emulator always froze at the starting cutscene of true area 53 when cream's mother was captured and the screen flashes white and stays that way. :(
