Scooby-Doo! - Mystery Mayhem Review by: cooldragon1990 - 9/10

Scooby Dooby Doo!!!
Most GBA games based on TV Shows, Movies, or whatever Pop Culture out there are usually known for not being the best out there. Maybe they water down the experience or take out important stuff, or cash grab propaganda. I never played the console version of this game, I played this one. I was taken aback by how enjoyable this game was for me. I played other Scooby games and they were just too hard for my childlike mind to handle.

Not this one though. I was able to beat it quite easily, and enjoyed the journey. Other people might not give this a favorable score but for me personally, it was a very enjoyable if slightly frustrating at times experience. Later in life, I found out that there were console versions and I don't have knowledge of them. I am sure they are superior, but let's focus on the handhold version.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Graphics: I am fond of the graphics. They are cute. Others might say they are too pixelly or compressed, but I myself thought they did a good job in the graphics department. For me there is no case of "What Am I Looking at" syndrome or any case of suspending disbelief at what I am looking at.

Sound: They made the esthetic a valid Scooby experience, including a heavily compressed, short laugh track. For a handheld that's amazing. Music blurs in the background and is only really annoying if you get lost or stuck on where to go or what to do. If you know precisely where you are or what to do then it sorta relaxes you and makes fantastic white noise.

Addictiveness: I played this game a lot. For me, there is a lot to come back to. Where one sees a once and done sorta experience, I can come back to it. But this is just cause I played Resident Evil 4 17 times. For me, there is no such thing as once and done. Give me a few months and I can replay anything.

Story: The gang travel to various places, expecting a normal experience with ghosts. However, they find that it isn't just a dude in a costume. This time there are real ghosts. Sure a dude makes trouble for them, but the ghosts are real! This is a heavily shortened version of the story but you get the idea. It's like a show. Each episode/season has an overarching plotline with not all of the revelations revealed.

Depth: The game offers a decent length campaign. It isn't too long or too short, but I am sure if someone put their mind to it, they could probably speedrun it. Not me though, I like to take my time.

Difficulty: Like I said before, this game has it's moments of difficulty. The first level is part stealth cause you have to avoid ghosts. Once you get an item to help you combat ghosts, future levels aren't quite as annoying. You can only use that item in certain situations, but it is significantly easier after the tutorial and you get a certain "book" It isn't too hard, but some areas can be a bit annoying. Scooby and Shaggy each take one hit before they are scared. If they get hit three times, they lose a health. This makes it a bit annoying to avoid certain ghosts or fight, but by making ingredients to a delicious sandwich (their words) then you can get one life.

Final Thoughts: I personally found this game to be very enjoyable. For me, it's that rare licensed game that is quality. There might be people to disagree or tell me to play the Gamecube/PS2 version, but I don't have experience with them, and I like the simplistic nature of this game. If you love Scooby Doo, or just want an enjoyable game, pick this one up. It's that rare licensed game that isn't too shabby.
