Gotta Catch 'em All! Pokemon Gold review   patar4097
Pokémon Gold is the counterpart of Pokémon Silver, and the first game of the second generation of the Pokémon main series. This version of Pokémon includes many of the classic Pokémon from the first generation, and includes 100 new Pokémon to catch, train, and collect.
If you didn’t know, Pokémon is a turn-by-turn RPG. Every Pokémon has different pros and cons, whether it be their element type, or the moves that they learn. And with a total of 251 Pokémon, there are many different ways you can go with your strategy. But really, all you need is a Typhlosion. :P
Graphics  9.5 The graphics in this game are great. The Pokémon sprites are vastly improved from B/R/Y, and the shiny sprites are really nice. And maybe this is just my personal opinion, but the Gold sprites seem to be better than Silver 80% of the time. Really, the only problem with the graphics is that during the battles, the background is just plain white. It just seems bland. You will get used to it, but it just seems unfinished.
However, what I thought was the biggest upgrade from the original Pokémon games, was the new night and day cycle.  In this game, there is a timer to keep track of what time of day it is. At around 6:00, the sky will change to a darker color, making it look like night. It looks so great.
Sound 9
It’s pretty hard for me to rate this, since the nostalgia is so high for this game for me. But either way, this game’s music is amazing.  The music in the gyms, the first route, and the Pokécenters are some of the best songs in Pokémon history.  Then there are some good sounds too, The Pokémon cries, although they don’t say their names like I feel they should, do sound good. Very few of them sound repeated, and those that are were done that way on purpose.  Even the small sounds like the Pokeball shaking sound nice. It seems like Nintendo really pushed the limits of the Game Boy’s music abilities with this game.
Depth / addictiveness 10 With a total of 251 Pokémon, and about 220 that you are able to catch in the game, there is HUGE replay ability in this game. And the fact that you can go back to Kanto, the region from R/B/Y, and collect the 8 gym badges from it, adds even more hours of exploring. However, the Kanto region has changed. It’s not really as detailed, with it being more of an extra, and the biggest thing is that Lavender Town, the creepy town that was rumored make kids suicidal (which is a myth), is now mellowed down.
You can get over 150 hours pretty easily, but if you don’t like  all the extras of catching all the Pokémon, getting to level 100, and things like that, it would be more like 60 hours of playtime. Especially for a Game Boy Color game, this is amazing.
And you will enjoy almost every minute of it. Traveling through the world of Pokémon gets very addicting very quickly.  Although there is the usual grinding that comes from most turn-by-turn RPGs, you will be able to get through this, and continue to enjoy the game.
Story 6.5 Originally looking at a Pokémon game, you don’t see a very complex story. “A kid going on an adventure to become a Pokémon master, and defeat bad guys along the way”, may not be the most interesting or original story, but it’s enough to keep you playing. But looking at it again, I see much more than I ever thought was in a Pokémon game.

So the story, more in depth, is this: You are a kid living in the little village of the New Bark Town. Then Professor Elm calls you over to his lab, to figure out about a weird discovery that Mr. Pokémon has made. This discovery is basically Pokémon eggs. So you get a Pokémon to get to where he is. But some stupid kid, while you are gone, steals a Pokémon, the one that has a type advantage against you. So Prof. Elm finds out that you are good at Pokémon training when you return to the lab, and he sends you out on your Pokémon journey, to try to become the Pokémon champion, and catch as many Pokémon doing so. So as you go trying to collect gym badges, you will find that Team Rocket has returned. They are again trying to again cause havoc by stealing Pokémon, and trying to make a profit off of them. However, this time, they are without their leader. This kind of bugged me, since this leaves the game’s story involving Team Rocket lacking a little.
And through this all, you will meet that trainer that stole a Pokémon, stating that he will become the world’s greatest Pokémon trainer, while not caring about the wimps. He is probably my favorite rival in the Pokémon series, but the fact that he never ends up really being ahead of you, like Gary was being the champion, was a disappointing.
Difficulty 6 As most games in this genre, the game isn’t really hard, if you grind enough. But it you could always try to make it hard for yourself, in order to make the game more about strategy. You could do this by using weaker Pokémon, trying to win with one type of Pokémon, or even trying a Nuzlocke game. And another reason I rated the difficulty higher than most people do, is it’s very hard to find all of the obtainable Pokémon. It seems most people don’t take this into consideration, but the game is still not too hard. It’s pretty rare that you will get stuck, but there are some puzzles that are pretty tough.
Gameplay 9 The gameplay in Pokémon Gold is absolutely amazing. I think this is the best game of its genre in its time, and still can match up to current games. There are also some upgrades from the first generation that may be small, but are great improvements. First off, there are now pockets in the bag, getting rid of the terrible bag from R/B/Y, where every item you own is jumbled up into one big mess. Now, you have a separate place for your TMs and HMs, one for Pokeballs, and one for key items, which are the ones that can’t be thrown away. You can also make it so you can easily use one of these items. This makes it much better when you like using the bike a lot. And another one is when you want to use an HM; you don’t always have to go to the menu. You can now go up to the edge of the water, for instance, and press A, and you will start surfing.
And now the Pokémon can even hold items. Some items can heal them when they are weak, some can make your Pokémon stronger, and some won’t do a thing, such as a potion.
Overall 9.7 This game is phenomenal. Its simplistic gameplay makes it a perfect pick-up-and-play game that absolutely anyone can play. Its great soundtrack will have you humming the tunes, and you will be addicted to it as well. With great graphics, and a story that will at least keep you motivated to continue your journey this game is a must play for all RPG fans, and really anybody who had or has a Game Boy Color.
And if you liked this review, be sure to rate it! And if you didn't, well, then don't rate it. :P

Pokemon Gold   Barathemos
Today I will be making a review for Pokémon Gold, the other game of Pokémon Silver. This game is not much different then Pokémon silver, the only difference it that you can catch Ho-Oh is gold, and Lugia in Silver.  You can also catch Pokémon that are one game only. This is a good game that is pretty good.
Overall: 8.9
This is an OK game. It defiantly has it strong points but it does also have its weak points. The first thing I would like to talk about is the total feeling of the game. After I had my first time playing Pokémon red, blue, yellow, I played Pokémon Gold. Man, Gold was a wonder, it was a great game that had parts to it that were new for a Pokemon game. These things that were upgrades were the things that game this game such a great score. It is a game that was the first one to have color, except for the small amount of color in Pokémon Yellow. That was one of the things that made this such a great game. When you have a good amount of color in a game when it wasn't know to have color in the beginning, it sure does make it a whole lot better. The game is just another Pokémon game in the other facts of the game, it was a great game, like all other Pokémon games, but I would rank it up because of its change in game play.
Graphics: 7
The graphics for this game were good. They were JUST good, they were nothing great. It was just a tiny improvement in the graphics from the first Pokémon games, I think that the whole reason for this is that the people who made the game spent so much time coloring the game. It would have gotten a lower score if it did not have the color in it. The graphics were kind of behind for the time so it can't get a great score. That is why I game it a final score of a 7. Not bad, but not good. Lets move on.
Sound: 9
The sound is not just the music for this game, it is also the route themes and the Pokémon cries. The music for Pokémon battles was good. It was better then the music for the first Pokémon games, but it was not much better. Though the sound for the Pokémon battles are not much better, the sound for the Trainer battles, mostly Gym Leaders, are better. They took a huge jump from Gen 1 to gen 2. The Pokémon cries were also better. They just sounder so much better and the new cries sounded awesome! Overall, the sound for this game was better then the sound for the 1st pokemon game, a lot better, that is why it got a 9 for sound. Time to move on.
Addictiveness: 6
This game is the same as any other Pokémon game. Now, you would say that the game is not as addicting, but I am basing it off of how it was when the game came out. When the game came out, there had only been a few Pokémon games so a lot of people wanted to play this one, so they bought it and they did. Now, because it was so much better then the 1st gen games, the game players wanted to play it until they were perfect, so they could brag that they completed Pokémon Gold. The games Addictiveness factor rose because of the lack of Pokémon games before. This game was the same as any other Pokémon game, mostly, so it doesn't have anything extra then this to this category. This game was pretty Addictive so that is why it got a six, it is hard to score high in this with me. Time to move on.
Story: 10
There is not much to say in this section other then the fact that it is mostly a normal pokemon game that has some extra features, you get to catch more Pokémon, team Rocket is going for the taking over of the world, and you need to defeat all the gym leaders, the elite 4, and the champion. But it is also a normal Pokémon game that has new cities with some strange backgrounds. You have to go exploring these cities to go find out the pasts of them and you have to correct some stuff, catch some new Pokémon and fill your Pokedex. Filling you Pokedex is a lot harder now that they have added a whole lot more Pokémon, that is what annoys me with the whole got to catch them all thing. Well, that is enough ranting so I will move on.
Depth: 10
As any other Pokémon game, there is a lot of things to do. First you have to complete the game. This will take you a lot of time to do because you will have to train all of your pokemon team/teams strong enough to defeat the elite four and the champion. That is just the start and about 1/50th of the game, there is a whole lot more. Now, remember how you have to train your Pokémon to level 100 in order to fully complete the game. You have to start with your level 5 starter that you have to train, it is easy at first but then it gets harder. Now you have to do this with over 200 Pokémon. That is not easy, it will take a LONG time. Just don't get frustrated.
Difficulty: 6
This game is not so hard. But it is SLIGHTLY hard. You are so used to the first Pokémon games which were a breeze, then you get this, and it get a lot harder at one big time. You then have to learn about all the new Pokémon and you will have to learn about the new Pokémon and all about the new regions!  I just have to say that this game is not easy. You don't just pick it up and do it in a day. it takes a whole lot of time. This game is not a too hard one, but is not an easy one, and that is why it gets a 6.
Overall, this is a great game. It was a big dare and a big step forward in the Pokémon game series. It is a great game that you should play if you have not before! I hoped you liked the review!

Pokemon Gold is 16 Years Old   Lexatom
Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver were released as the sequels to Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. Gold and Silver released onto the Game Boy Color in the year 2000, starting the 2nd Generation of the series. Pokemon Gold was the first game I ever played, not just in the Pokemon series, but in gaming as a whole. But how does Pokemon Gold and Silver stand up from a critical viewpoint? Let's find out.
Graphics - 9
The graphics in this game are a huge step up from the graphics in Pokemon Red and Blue. Just look at now compared to last generation!

He doesn't look disgustingly terrifying anymore! I think that every single Pokemon in this game has a great design that represents them well, even Ditto. A new feature was added to the series starting with Pokemon Gold and Silver called Shiny Pokemon. Shiny Pokemon are INCREDIBLY rare. They appear in the wild at random. Basically, Shiny Pokemon are just regular Pokemon with a different color scheme. However, they are still incredibly rare, and if you ever see one, be sure to catch it, as you may never see one again.
Sound - 9
The sounds in this game have gotten an upgrade compared to Pokemon Red and Blue as well. Each Pokemon has gotten a distinct cry, and even the cries from Generation 1 were slightly edited to sound better. The overworld sounds are pretty much the same, though. Besides the remixed Kanto music. Every area in the Kanto region in the game has had a musical remake and I love it. Besides the Lavender Town music, I kind of miss that old, creepy vibe it gave me....
Addictiveness - 10
Like the last generation, these games are highly addicting, especially when you have a family member or a friend to play the games with. The connectivity hasn't changed at all from last Generation, but it's still fun to battle and trade nonetheless. This Generation has much more to offer than last generation, but we'll get into more detail about that in the Depth section of this review.
Story - 8
The story isn't anything all that great, but it works for what it is. Team Rocket is back after 2 year absence, but their former leader, Giovanni, has gone missing. They are trying to look for their former leader using the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City to revive Team Rocket. Again, the story isn't much, unless you go into the lore between the legendary Pokemon of Johto. The legend is as follows -
In Ecruteak City, there used to be 2 towers standing tall. The tower in the northwest corner of the city is home to the Legendary Pokemon, Lugia. The tower standing in the northeast corner of the city is home to the Legendary Pokemon, Ho-oh. One day, a lightning bolt struck the tower that Lugia resides in, and the tower burnt down. Lugia fled to the Whirl Islands and now resides there. 3 Pokemon were inside the burning tower, and those Pokemon were Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon, the 3 evolutions of Eevee from Generation 1. Ho-oh took pity on them, and they were filled with great strength and power, restoring them and turning them into what is known as the 3 Legendary Beasts. Raikou (Jolteon), Entei (Flareon) and Suicune (Vaporeon).
Other than that, the story remains the same until you go to the Kanto Region. Once you collect all the badges in both Johto and Kanto, you have permission to climb Mt. Silver, and at the top you will meet a familiar face...
It's you from Generation 1, although his canon name is Red. This is one of my favorite parts in the game, which really does tell you that these are great sequels.
Depth - 10
Generation 2 has even more things to do than Generation 1 had. Generation 2 adds 100 Pokemon to the list, making the total 251. What's even better? 2 regions to explore, 16 badges in the game, so much! You know the developers tried their best when they had to fit all of that stuff into a Game Boy Color cartridge. (RIP Satoru Iwata). Again, this is a Pokemon game, so go and Catch em' All!
Difficulty - 8
Since this IS a Pokemon game, the difficulty varies depending on which Pokemon you have. I will admit that some of the Gym Leaders gave me trouble, like Whitney and Morty to name some. Lance can sometimes be difficult, and Red is sure to give you a difficult time beating him. Other than that, as long as you have a well thought out team, then you should be able to finish the game, no matter the challenges that you may come across.
Overall - 9.5
Pokemon Gold and Silver marked the beginning of the second Generation of Pokemon, and many prefer the second Generation over the first. However, like me, many people feel that later generations surpass this one. Generation 2 is my second to least favorite Generation, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I just prefer other generations over this one. I hope you enjoyed this review. :)

Pokemon Gold   Redrunelord
The original Pokémon games for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color literally took the video game markets by storm, and have left a significant impression on he populace. As popular as the games were, and as much demand as there was for a continuation, a lot of the demand was to fix the plethora of issues that plagued the original game. Nintendo's answer to the various requests was the second generation: Pokémon Silver, and Pokémon Gold (later accompanied by Pokémon Crystal in the same way Pokémon Yellow did in the first generation).
Now Pokémon Silver and Gold are nearly identical, with the only differences being very minor wild Pokémon placements and a few minor text differences. Thus, if someone has played Pokémon Silver, then they also played this game, so they can judge accordingly. However, if looking for additional information on Silver, then the following information is also applicable. Pokémon Crystal is generally recommended for second generation Pokémon, but if between Silver or Gold, then the differences are minuet.
The first notable upgrade is on the visual level. Overall, they are more colorful than the original trilogy, and a lot of the textures are more detailed in general. Since it did come later, and the coding oriented around the Game Boy Color rather than the original Game Boy (though the coding is largely similar). It is very subjective whether or not the visuals are superior to the first generation, but they are more colorful, and more complete. One thing that has been lost from Pokémon Yellow was that all the towns got the same general hue now, whereas in yellow different areas had different lens colorization, which would have been an interesting option as now there is more of a sense of repetition than yellow. However, animations of attacks are more fluent (for good reason) and the sprites are more colorful, if a bit monotonous. That's this game's biggest problem visually: at times, the visuals are not unique enough for different areas, and as this is the second generation one would expect things to be less so. Otherwise, the visuals can actually rival many Game Boy Advance titles, including "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" as far as detail goes.
On the Auditory level, the music is high calibre for the Game Boy Color. Most of the songs follow similar styles to the first generation, and for good reason. However, what has been improved off was the placement of audio, and how it transitions from area to area. For example, there are a few spots in the game it goes silent before an epic battle, and this more effective than a steady beat the whole time then slightly speeding it up. The audio chosen for each Pokémon, each action, and each area with care, and it shows. However, like all video game soundtracks, it is immensely subjective, and may be a bit too upbeat for some people (with the exception of a few scattered tracks).
The story line picks up approximately three years after the first generation in the Johto Region, which neighbors Kanto, with a new trainer in a small town similar to Pallet town. This is actually a fairly strong way to continue their adventures and keep the original spirit and charm as there could be continuations from kanto. In all Actuality...there are continuations from certain aspects of the Kanto story line, but it is still left relatively vague which means it retains the same advantages and disadvantages the original generation contained: you can build your own story how you want, but people looking for a pre-destined detailed story will be somewhat disappointed. What storyline aspects there are, however, are well put together and should satisfy the average fan.
The core game-play remains primarily the same as earlier games: gain a starter Pokémon, build a team and work your way through the gyms. The concept of capturing Pokémon in the wild, and building a team of Pokémon is still there, the movement between places are still the same, and the style is virtually identical. The single biggest difference between the game play is more to do with layout of the various text-based systems from the first generations and making them more user-friendly. For instance, TMs and HMs now has the number AND the name given on the spot, which is a huge advantage over the previous TM system. As well, the inventory has been improved to have separate "pockets" where different types of items can be stored. This not only helps resolve the clutter from the original inventory, but also immensely helps increase overall storage by several fold. Whereas one would have their home computer cluttered, it is possible to go the entire game without using it once as TMs and special "quest" items will no longer take up the entire inventory. The PC, speaking of which, had some minor improvements as well as there is now a limited visual feedback provided, yet one minor disappointing factor is that there isn't more space considering the influx of new Pokémon.
Yet in many ways that is simply visual enhancements, so what actually impacts the core game play? The first, noticeable difference is that there is now a day/night cycle based on the real world clocks, and actual seven-day weeks. This has a major impact on what Pokémon can be caught (certain ones can only come out at certain times of day as well as in certain areas) and what can be used. For instance, one form of transportation can only be used on two specific days and only once on those days.

The obvious inclusions of a plethora of new Pokémon and techniques are evident as soon as the game starts. The starter Pokémon follows the tradition that was to be set in the first generation and offer a grass, fire and water Pokémon. This is a good tradition because it offers a limited replay value in trying to beat the game with wildly different teams on different difficulty levels (the starter will determine the difficulty based on gym leaders, building the rest of a balanced team, etc). There is a lot more flexibility for building a late-game team, but early in the game is heavily limited (much like in its predecessors). Certain moves has been nerfed or boosted in power based on necessity, such as wrap (which given to a fast Pokémon was overpowered) which has been a welcome change. The biggest change in how the moves and Pokémon are presented is that there is now a way to delete HMs. Yes, a move deleter who will remove HMs free now exists, and immensely helps make the game less frustrating.

In some respects, the game is easier than the first generation counterparts, but it is also harder at the same time. It is easier in that the average levels of trainer’s Pokémon are lower and less base power is necessary. It is harder in the respect that the player much be prepared for a much wider range of potential attacks and strategies, especially on a first play through. Overall, though, it isn’t a hard game to pick up and play but a bit difficult to truly master every single minuet detail.
This game do contain two of the same flaws as it’s predecessors: trading and repetition. Like the previous titles, trading is an absolute necessity to acquire certain Pokémon whether because they are game specific or because they are some of those that requires a trade to reach their final form. This is exceptionally frustrating for people who do not have a friend willing to trade with them frequently or multiple systems and games from the generation. One major upgrade with the trade system, though, is the inclusion of a means to trade with the previous generation. That is right: it is now possible to trade with the older games in the series. How is this possible? Apparently, the developers decided to defenestrate the laws of physics, and create a time machine. The player can trade or battle their “elders” but the catch is no Pokémon or moves that are indigenous to the second generation can be brought into the room. Imagine a HO-OH at the elite four in Pokémon Yellow. Regardless, it is interesting how the developers took the time to make this addition but left the problem for solo gamers.
The other “problem” that still rings true is repetition. The game play stays largely the same throughout, and while there is a lot more to do it does not help quench the repetitive nature of training. The environments, especially early in the game, will blend a lot and it will give off a feeling of saying one is going on an adventure but in reality walks across their garden. This depends on the player’’s definition of an adventure, of course, and the game is legitimately large for what it is. Whether or not it is truly “repetitive” is a matter of opinion, but in many ways it is more of the same. If that’s bad or not depends heavily on the player.
Amidst these words, what is the final verdict? If looking at a second-generation Pokémon game, then crystal is usually the first recommendation closely followed by silver or gold tied dead even. Yet is going to the second generation even worthwhile? If a fan of turn based strategy games and/or other Pokémon games, then yes, it is well worth it. In some ways, it is the dividing line between the old and the new for Pokémon, and is worth looking at just to see the transition between Generations one and three. As a standalone game, it is an excellent single player game, but the full experience will be lost without friends to play with. In the end, one's Pokémon's adventure will only end when the trainer hangs up their poke balls for the last time, and it does not have to end with Pokémon Gold.

" Similar to its counter part Pokemon Silver, the only real difference between the two is which Pokemon appear in either game(for example some Pokemon that appear in Silver will not appear in Gold, vise versa), and the location to which Pokemon are located .Once again, this is something rarely seen in the Pokemon franchise two regions in one game. Gamefreak Inc. really did go above and beyond what was expected of them and managed to improve upon graphics, and features. Some new features introduced in Pokemon Gold version is the day & night feature, pokegear, the telephone.
"So how do the graphics in Pokemon Gold Version compare to graphics seen in earlier Pokemon games, and what has changed?". Well for starters everything is completely descriptive and in full color. Unlike what was seen in previous installments in the Pokemon franchise where the towns and every object in them are all the same color including your character, in Pokemon Gold every object in town has its own distinctive color and is in clean cut animation. The bodies of water move in a wave like motion as if wind is blowing on the water. They now have two types of tree's in Pokemon Gold and you can clearly tell the difference in the two types because of there easily distinctive in their texture and the proportion in there size. The buildings, and scenery are breath taking in realistic looking in design and colorization, I felt as though I could walk right into the towns and felt closer to the Pokemon and the Pokemon battle scenes. The Pokemon sprites have gotten a well needed update and can be easily made out and is in near perfect design color wise and form wise and can be seen in above average detail from every angle.
"What can be expected out of the sound quality in Pokemon Gold?". The soundtrack alternates from town to town, route to route and can be heard rather well, each town has its own music/song or tone to it which really helps shape the mood. Even during a Pokemon battle, the fast pace music has the gamer feeling on edge wondering if they will win or lose. Pokemon battle cries are still unique and distinctive and each Pokemon has there own distinct sound and there's not one Pokemon with the same similar cry. When out on water a certain breezy claim music plays which makes the gamer feel like they are actually in the water.
"How addicting is Pokemon Gold to play, is it something worth a reply(as in would you play it again?,". I for one was highly addicted to Pokemon Gold Version because it was a whole new region(Johto) and not to mention but you could go back to the Kanto region and beat some of its gyms.So with a total of 10 or 12 gyms and both new and old legendary Pokemon, Pokemon Gold Version had me amused for hours upon end craving more. Furthermore I would diffidently play this game again any day simply because it offered a new story with old returning foes and a whole new challenge.
"So with out reveling to much what is the story like in Pokemon Gold Version?". The story is simply phenomenal , complete edge of your seat excitement and fun so enjoy. The story takes place years after what happened in Kanto, your a raising young man or lady and you have just turned 12 today so it's time to set off on your grand adventure/ journey. The Pokemon Professor Elm has asked you to come down to his lab so you can do a small favor to him and upon doing that he gives you your first Pokemon. So your off and set on your grand new adventure in the Johto region where many new and tough challenges await you and your Pokemon, a(n) all new elite four challenge, if you think is going to be another cake walk like what was seen in the Kanto region you are sadly mistaken. In addition you think you have gotten rid off and disbanded the evil origination know only as team rocket by simply defeating there boss once back all those years ago back in Kanto well they are back and better than ever with all new seemingly invincible Pokemon and are rage bent on capturing and enslaving all Pokemon and people in the Johto region.
" How big is Pokemon Gold depth wise,in other words how big is the game, and how much is there to do?". Well Pokemon Gold is a relatively big game, it has over 10 gyms both from the new region of Johto and the old region of Kanto. Pokemon Gold has a decent amount of legendary Pokemon to hunt down and capture, all three legendary dogs(Entie, Suicone, and Riaku), and Ho-oh. The game takes a considerable amount of time to beat with all the little side actions you have the option of doing, you'll be occupied fishing here and there, catching Pokemon in tournaments, or doing so gambling winning coins in the game corner to buy exclusive items, and Pokemon and not to mention batting over 10 gyms and taking on the elite four.
"Just how hard is Pokemon Gold to beat, what's the difficulty like, is it hard or moderately easy?" Well Pokemon Gold Version starts out easy but the difficulty gradually increases over time and before you know it you could find you self out classed and out leveled, so train often. The gyms start to get really tough if you don't have the type advantage and don't be fooled, gym leaders will throw out Pokemon really under leveled and then when they get to their last one it will be high leveled then most of the ones you beat combined. The elite four has really stepped up their game this time around, and the new champion uses a certain type that most trainers might not be so familiar with so train hard and create a well balanced team!In addiction the games A.I doesn't make as many clueless mistakes and will not make it easy on you to over come its own skill.
"Overall how do you feel about Pokemon Gold?"Overall I think Pokemon Gold really improved upon and quite frankly set the standards for Pokemon games to come and goes above and beyond with its features, animations and storyline/plot.Furthermore it's really similar to Pokemon Silver the only real differences in the two is what Pokemon appear, and I in my opinion If I had to choose between Silver or Gold I'd choose Pokemon Silver because I like Lugia better than Ho-oh and I just think the Pokemon that appear in Silver are worth more to have on your team than the ones that appear in Gold. But still overall they are both great games and well worth the viz it costs to play them!

Pokemon Gold Review Score   Jeremy90
This is my first Pokémon game of Generation II of the series. I'm not sure if anyone would prefer Gold, Silver, or even Crystal, but all of them are great games to play! In my opinion, this is probably the best Pokémon games ever created for the Nintendo Game Boy. The graphics are traffic and the sound is good too. This game is addictive to me! I've probably played it about 10 times and I still love this game! I can play it over and over again, but not too much though. I would play it like every week or two. Well that's about it for the addictiveness. Now for the story. The story is the same as the previous versions, but the character is different. It not Ash and Gary is not your rival anymore, but an evil Pokémon thief that stole a Pokémon from Professor Elm and you fight after he calls you about a an unidentified person that stole a Pokémon. The Pokémon League is pretty simple than the other versions all Pokémon range from Level: 40-50. Except for when you fight Blue and Red, they are much tougher! As far as the story goes the games are HUGE! there is a lot to do And all kinds of Pokémon to catch.
Unlike Red, Blue, and Yellow, Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal there are 251 species of Pokémon (there is 151 in the other versions).
You can't get them all unless you trade, but other than that, there are still plenty of Pokémon to catch. If you're not too interested in catching a lot of Pokémon, you can beat this game in matter of hours! But People who are true Pokémon Players can enjoy the game for days. When I play this game, I can beat in a few days. I like to enjoy the game while I play and I usually never get bored from it too much, unless I play it all day. Finally, Pokémon Gold can be difficult at times especially when you take part in the Bug Catching Contest every Tuesday and Thursday. You must catch the strongest Pokémon to get first place! It does have something to do with the level and health. For example, I caught a Scyther at Level: 14 with 48HP ( I think it was 48HP) , and I won the Sun Stone by coming in first place. But, I also kept reseting the game because I had problems with the contest. The hardest thing about the game is the leveling. It is always a good to start early!
After I choose my starter, I train it up to at least level 12. I usually catch a Pidgey and Geodude and train both to around level 15. Unfortunantly, You can't usually keep a lot of Pokémon you catch around the world because of the moves and stats. Also, you can only have six Pokémon with you. You will need at least two water type Pokémon or a one that can learn the new water type HM's that are featured in the game. Lastly, It is VERY important to keep the winners in the end, because it is crucial to go further easier. I always keep the legendary dogs in my party because they have some of the best stats in the game. HO-OH and Lugia are great too! Overall, Pokémon Gold is a 9.5, but a perfect 10 in my opinion because there always a flaw when it comes to Pokémon Gold and the games as well, That concludes my review, and my first. I'm a proud member and  supporter of Vizzed!

Pokemon Gold Version Review   XxEzraxX
I'm sure we all loved the Johto series, even almost as much as we loved the Indigo Plateau series. And Pokémon Gold was the first (alongside Silver that is) game of the new season. If I remember correctly the games came out before the Pokémon Johto Journeys was even aired on American television, but I digress. Gold version was addition to one of the many great Pokémon classics, as soon as it was released it was a big hit. I personally loved the game, it was different than the others in its own unique way.
Lets start with the game play, it was the same as the classics. You know roam around, catch em' all and become the Johto League Champion. However, there was a bit more to it than just that. For example, there was so many more Legendary Pokémon to catch (Raikou, Entai, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh, Mew and Mewtwo [also in Japan only, through a link cable and a cell phone, Celebi]). Another extension to the game was that once you defeated the gym leaders, and elite four you were now allowed to traverse through Kanto. Where it all began, and collect more badges. Although once you get the 8 badges of Kanto, you cannot face the Kanto Regions elite four. However, Prof. Oak will permit you entrance into the dangerous Mt. Silver where you will find rare and strong Pokémon, and the original Champion himself, Red.
Now there couldn't be anything else different about the game, right? Wrong, there is a few other things that are different. Like the bag, and the Pokegear. Your backpack now has more pockets, so now you can carry more items along with you throughout your journey. You now have a pocket for your items, pokeballs, key items and berries (which were added to the games as well. Berries do different things for your Pokemon if you feed it to them or let them hold it). Also, three new features have been added; 1. The Pokegear, this contraption was given to you by your mother and it is a town map, telephone, and radio all in one (pretty convenient huh?) this item is the Pokémon worlds first cell phone. Now you can call Prof. Elm, Bill, your mom and any other Trainer you beat in battle and register numbers with. You will also receive calls from these people, some calls will be a part of the story while others will be either to battle or ask how you are doing. 2. Hold items, a hold item is an item that you can have your Pokémon hold to use during battles (examples; berries, quick claw and leftovers). The item will have a certain use in battle, whether it be healing or restoring a status aliment or even powering up a move. Berries however can only be used once if holding, considering it is a berry (look at it like this if you have your Pokémon hold Berry and it restores health by itself  in the middle of battle, it just ate the berry you gave it so your Pokémon is healed and the berry is gone). 3. Do you remember teaching your Pokémon HM moves, then going to press start to use it outside or battle? Well in this game all you have to do is walk up to where you want to use your HM move and press A, the game will ask you if you want to use "insert HM move name here" and you just simply press yes. A small change, but a huge impact on the game play (can you say time saving?).
Now my rating, I gave this game a 10. These Pokémon games were a big part of my childhood, so a lot of them will get perfect 10s. It was a great game, and no matter how long time passes or what new and updated Pokémon games come out these will always be my picks and I will always play them. Graphics, sound and addictiveness I gave a 10, the graphics and sounds because they were changed and looked and sounded amazing. The overworld looked updated, and the Pokémon sprites were redone and updated. As for the addictiveness, when I got Pokémon G/S/C I never wanted to put them down, I loved them. I was sucked into them from the start, Johto being one of my favorites.
Gamefreak/Nintendo tried something different this time, they actually tried to put a story into the game. That is why instead of just leaving the story blank I gave it a 7, they tried really hard on the story. The story is partially about you trying to find out who the red haired guy is stealing that Pokémon from Prof. Elm's lab (Silver), why Team Rocket is around and finding out more about the legendary dog Pokémon Raikou, Suicune and Entai while still collecting badges and going on to defeat the elite four. Sound like a long and confusing game? Well think again, because it really is not as hard as it sounds and it is not as long as you might think either. It is about as hard as your average Pokémon game so I rated the difficulty a 5, considering (like I said in other Pokémon game reviews) a lot of Pokémon games were not that hard. I also gave the depth a 6 (instead of a 5) because even though it wasn't that long of a game, it was a bit longer than the originals. Only by a tiny bit, and the story was added making it seem more legit as a real problem going on in the world that you have embarked your journey upon.
All in all, Pokémon Gold was a wonderful game. There was a few differences and a few similarities but over all it is still considered a Pokémon classic, not only through my eyes but through the eyes of a lot of Pokémon lovers. I highly recommend this game to all Pokémon fans, I'm sure that a lot of people will get as much enjoyment out of it as I do. Have fun with your Pokémon adventures in the land of Johto everyone.

Pokemon Gold Review   zanderlex

Pokémon Gold, along with Pokémon Silver both came out in the year 2000 and was the last of the Pokémon games to be for the Game Boy. Not that many people know that both Gold and Silver were not meant to be labeled as Game Boy Color games and that Pokémon Crystal had actually been the first Pokémon game for the Game Boy Color.

Why would I do a review of Pokémon Gold, a game that came out 13 years ago, when there are many more games that are newer for me to review? The answer is very simple, the second Generation of Pokémon features some of the best game play in the game’s history, and personally it is my favorite Pokémon title.

I could also go ahead and pick Heart Gold because it is the same game, with new graphics and better game play, but I will not because that game would have never been released if it had not been for the original game, that had taken the world of video games by storm.

The game, just off its success of the previous generation significantly proved that the Pokémon franchise is a force to be reckoned with, and one that will leave a great impression for future generations of gamers to enjoy. That is one of the many reasons as to why this great game needs to receive the great amount of credit that it deserves.

Just like Red and Blue a few years earlier, Gold and Silver are nearly identical aside for just a few minor differences. I personally have never played either Silver or Crystal, therefore I will not compare the differences between Gold and Silver to Crystal, because due to the fact that Crystal is an update to Gold and Silver, Crystal would be better that both, but again, I prefer Gold.

GRAPHICS- New Graphics improve the overall game play and enhance the feel of the game. 9

There have been many upgrades to the game from the first Generation. The first of these changes is the way that the game looks. The games of this generation have just a bit more color than the ones of the previous Generation and because of the added color, the game looks a bit nicer. The color looks nothing like it does today, but again, at the time, the color had been seen as “State of the Art” and had been a stepping stone for all of the future games to be based off of.

The actual images that you see in the game are also more detailed, each tile is a bit sharper, and the detail combined with the color, makes for a brand new way to play the game. The maps look better, the battles and Pokémon look livelier. Every now and then, it may seem as though the colors blend together, but this one issue alone can’t push you away from admitting that the graphics are better than the games of the first Generation.

SOUND- Roughly the same as all the Pokémon games, which means it is awesome. 9

I am willing to bet, that if you were to play the Pokémon video game theme song from any game, at least 23 out of 25 people who listen to it will right away be able to tell that the music comes from Pokémon. That is what the music does to us, once we hear it for the first time; it has a lasting effect on us that will cause us to remember the music for many more years.

My favorite Pokémon music has to be from Emerald, but the music for this game easily takes a close second place and captivates me. All you have to do is listen to the music, you don’t even have to play the game, and you will be transported years back to that time when you first bought a copy of Pokémon Gold and turned it on. That is the kind of effect the music has, the music will bring back all those wonderful memories of your childhood.

On top of all this, let’s not forget that the music has been upgraded since the first Generation. There are more songs, there are different songs depending on where you are and what you are doing, and because of the new capabilities of the Game Boy Color, the music even sounds just a bit clearer and sharper.

ADDICTIVENESS- How one addicting game became more addicting.10

This is a Pokémon game, so what more do I need to say? Users of the first generation amassed well over a hundred hours battling through the games, and then Gold came out and but in basically twice as much stuff into the game to keep you glued to your Game Boy Color for many, many hours. Not only, is it just a Pokémon game, but it is two Pokémon games rolled into one because now you can also venture through the region of Pokémon red and Blue after you beat the games main story. Therefore, there is no reason to put the game down, even once you get the 8 badges and are ready to fight the Elite 4.

STORY. Twice the story. 10

The story is the same as always, you start off in your home town and you go off to meet the professor and then you are given your first Pokémon. Everything after that is just awesome fun. You go and battle, catch Pokémon, and get all 8 gym badges. Gold also allows you to venture into the kanto region once you become the Johto league champion.

DEPTH.   10

There is a ton of depth throughout this game, there is just so much to do with all the new features, and mixed in with the new graphics, the game will be one to remember.

DIFFICULTY 6

Overall, the game is not that difficult, all you have to do is follow all the clues that will randomly be dispersed throughout the game.

OVERALL 9.8

The game is great and deserves a full 9.8/10.

Pokemon Gold   Tjdagameplaya
Back in 1996, 2 games became a hit in Japan... these were Pokemon Red and Green (Blue outside of japan) Oh wait! this is Gold! Well I'm just giving some history on these games. In the year 1997 Nintendo announced Pocket Monsters 2: Gold and Silver, originally for the old Game Boy, the game was vastly different from the one we know today. Differences include simple route designs that resembled the generation 1 games and the lag of color. Different versions of Pokemon (Anime, etc.) showed the new Pokemon like Togepi and Ho-Oh from the infamous Pokemon- I choose you! Episode. The game never came through in 1997. until early 1998 where more info came in, and the game being called the today title Pokemon Gold. However, Yellow was coming to Japan and Red and Blue was coming to North America. Hackers have found early maps and even a skateboard to rival the bikes. Onto the actual review, Pokemon Gold came out in America on October 15th, 2000 and boy wan it awesome! Everybody would agree, the sound is very catchy and the challenge is higher than red and blue due to the new types like dark and steel. The story makes references to Red and Blue and after beating the Elite 4 you can visit Kanto. The game is deep because there's 100 new Pokemon and fighting a certain someone at the end. In closing, Pokemon gold is highly addictive but if you somehow get all 251 Pokemon you probably won't play it again. Well... what are you waiting for!? PLAY IT NOW!!!

Pokemon Gold, My perspective   fusionaceblus
Pokémon Gold is one of the first Pokémon games I have played(other than crystal, which I borrowed from my brother) and is one of the best games on the Game boy color that I have played.
Graphics
For a Game boy color, you can't really expect too much in this department, compared to games today. The text is clear on what it is trying to convey, you can tell which Pokémon you are looking at, or what color he/she is. The graphics are just "average" for a game boy color.
Sound
The sounds of the games can be split to 2 sides: the Pokémon's cries or roars and the music. The Cries can be heard as the Pokémon comes out of the poke ball in battle, and is a little distorted, and is just a little weird to listen to. On the other hand, the music is neat to listen to, and gives a sort of feel the town or route your at.
Addictiveness
The game is always supporting you to get all 251 Pokémon in the game, to train all your Pokémon to get ready for that gym battle The Elite 4, or going against your rival. Sometimes you will be waiting or hurrying along so you could be done before the sun came up or set to evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon, or to catch Pokémon that only appear at night or morning, either way, the game always grabs your attention in many ways.
Story
Pokémon game don't have very original plots or stories, just be the greatest Pokémon master.
Depth
The length of the game is quite longer than the games preceding it, having 2 regions to beat. Its not a game to really rush through, because you might have to train your pokemon to level up, or to catch rare or useful pokemon that would have a type advantage for the next battle you might have.
Difficulty
The game can be difficult, but its never almost impossible to know where you need to go(just ask the town folk!), and some gym battles can be quite hard for the part of the game it's in, but a little training never hurt, right? the only part s that can be difficult is the last battle, battling pokemon at level 70+!
Overall, Pokemon Gold Version is a great game for the Game Boy Color with average graphics, some debatable sounds, addictive, long and a challenging game.

A 90's addiction   Narcissistic
The game itself consists of the player's character roaming the world in order to become a Pokemon master. However, the player gets tied up into all the different plots of other characters. The basis of the game revolves around catching and leveling up different monsters represented by spirits. One must catch them in order to level up and ultimately progress through the story. The monsters level up by battling other monsters and other character's monsters. The monster's "faint" when their "Hit Points" reach "0". By making the other monster "faint" the character's monster gains "experience" if gained enough and leveled up it can "Evolve" into a bettered form of itself. The spirits change and so do the statistics of the monsters. The monsters also have different attributes and playing the game will greater divulge these attributes. The attributes can be exploited by using moves or attacks that the monsters use to knock out other monsters and they learn by either leveling up or evolving. The moves cause effects such as "not very effective","super effective" or "no effect".I remember this game back from when I was ten years old. After playing it's predecessors and loving them it was impossible for me not to find this game attractive. I cant say it is much different than silver other than being able to catch Legendary Ho-oh instead of Legendary Lugia and the story line concerning the Legendarys changes a bit. The graphics were vastly improved over those in Red, Blue, and Yellow. The spirits were better drawn and the attacks were better animated. The storyline was longer than in R/B/Y and it also incorporated some of the storyline of R/B/Y in which the other Pokemon games seemed to have left out. The game is overall very well done and a very good RPG. I would suggest it for a younger child. It would make a great gift for a birth day or Christmas. although it is for the older systems it still is a really good game. As a gamer this game hits on my top ten as all around most entertaining games.

Pokemon Gold REVIEW   metroidhunter72
My last review was on Pokemon Yellow, and in it I talked a lot about Pokemon Gold. I thought it would only fit if I did the next game in the series, so here you go. After I beat Red and Yellow, I discovered the sequel to the games in gamestop, Pokemon Gold. I bought it, and it has turned into my favorite Pokemon game of all time.
Graphics: 9
The graphics are a HUUUGGGE improvement upon the original 3 games. Some of the pokemon used to be really badly sprited and some were even wrong (koffing). Of course, just like Yellow, they improved all of the graphics. Most of the pokemon in this game look like what they do today.
Sound: 9
The music is very memorable. It fits the games theme, which is about folklore and ancient legends, and it even improves upon Kanto's music. I will always remember going in the Ruins of Alph and listening to the Unown song on the radio. Very creepy, but it makes it even more interesting.
Addictiveness: 8
This game was a lot more fun to me than both Red and Yellow. There were so many more places to explore, and so many more pokemon to catch. The fact that there are two regions that both have hidden secrets makes this game have a very high replay value. That means that even after beating it, you can continue playing it without getting extremely bored.
Story: 8
The story takes place a few years after Red and Blue, after team rocket has been defeated. Of course, they never give up, and start to show up again. You have to destroy Team Rocket once and for all, while also trying to become a Pokemon Master.
Depth: 10
This game has many places to go, and has so many more pokemon in it. This makes it have much more depth than the original games, because you have to travel around the world trying to catch pokemon, instead of just 1 region.
Overall: 10
I am giving this a ten because it is my favorite Pokemon game to date. I think it is a huge accomplishment from Nintendo, adding things like Shiny pokemon, a day and night cycle, and traveling across the ocean by boat. I think it deserves a lot more praise than it gets, and many people overlook it. If you haven't played this game before, I definitely suggest giving it a try. Please rate this review, it helps me earn viz. Thanks for reading!

Pokémon Gold Review (Is It Gold or Not)
I think Pokémon Gold Version is awesome Pokémon game , that's why I rated the game as a 10 for a Overall score, Graphic 9, Sound 10, Addictiveness 10, Story 9, Depth 9, Difficulty 6. Basically you already know what happens in the game you have to choose 1 out of 3 starters that Professor Elm give you which is Chikorita , Cyndaquil , Totodile, then you have to defeat all of the gym leader. The gym leaders are Falkner (flying type) , Bugsy (bug type) , Whitney (normal type) , Morty (ghost type) , Chuck (fighting type) , Jasmine (steel type) , Pryce (ice type) and the last gym leader is Clair with her Powerful Dragon type Pokémon , Next is the Elite Four , #1 Will (psychic type) , #2 Koga (poison type) , #3 Bruno (fighting type) , #4 Karen (dark type) and the champion Lance with his Powerful Dragon type Pokémon (not all of his Pokémon are dragon type) and The legendary Pokémon is Ho-oh in Tin Tower . (In Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver its called Bell Tower). Hope you like my post and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
