NOJ94'S REVIEW
This is a fun game that I own and I decided to review it because I'm very familiar with this game.
Summary: Same basic classical Pokémon game ideas; fight bad guys, be a Pokémon master, and of course "gotta catch 'em all!” this is a slightly different story of a kid who lives in a different Pokémon region and with it new Pokémon.
Graphics: I'll be honest when I first bought this game I was amazed by how much better it was then the generation before but that is to be demanded in the first place ( If they made a game boy advance game that looked like the game boy color I would have problems). Let me go into detail about it. First of all, the battle scenes… The Pokémon look a lot cleaner and are a lot prettier...yes...even their backside. They attempted to give that white empty space where the Pokémon, stats, and option bar doesn't cover, they did a little better by adding a spot of the surroundings below each Pokémon so if you are at sea you sea water below you or if you are in a cave you see earth below you. Pokémon still don’t move when making an attack, it would be nice to see a fighting Pokémon pull back it’s fist right before it attacks or when a Pokémon is hit it actually responds to the severity of the hit. I’ve noticed a few cool things here and there, like when you walk by a puddle you can actually see your reflection on it which is a nice touch. I noticed that in Lilycove the waves don’t try to climb up the side of the cliff as water should, instead it seems to appear and disappear under them. Also the world of magical creatures seems to also have magic trees that seem to naturally grow in a perfectly straight rows and growing nearly exactly alike. Also, though they did improve about the backless building phenomena it still doesn’t work perfectly; when I walk behind an obviously tall building I still can only just get under the top of the building.
Sound: None of the songs in my opinion are memorable and will never compete with the classic tunes of the classics but they do indeed give a Pokémon feel to this game. It would have been a sweet feature if they added an option where you could play the old tunes on the game but that may just be me. On occasion when you fly from one place to another the theme is the same. They made it so the music wouldn’t stop abruptly and then start the same song over again from the beginning but I still think it would have been better to have given each flyable area a different soundtrack but don’t take me wrong because they do have several songs and tunes for places. Nintendo still hasn’t allowed Pokémon to have their own voice, I would have loved it if some of them excluding a few (I prefer hearing a roar from a legendary), I want Pikachu to actually go “pik-ach-u!”. Story: Same old story, crazy mother sends a little kid into the world with one little Pokémon on the child but now they also have a lunatic for a father who also supports it. Also this kid manages to disrupt not one group of organized crime but two! Then you supposedly have an extremely talented kid, when realistically you just have knowledge of the game and basic common sense. This is the Pokémon formula: totally unrealistic… but hey, who wants that!
Depth/ Addictiveness: This game has the most things to do of any before it. Now you have an upgraded concept of the cell phone in the GBC games called the “ Pokenav” (short for Pokemon navigator) so now the first battle you have with a normal trainer isn’t final. They grabbed the Pokemon Tower concept from the past and ran away with it creating one of the most entertaining/time consuming pokemon creation ever. The Pokemon frontier gives experienced gamers the difficulty they can’t get from fighting at the Elite Four. Finally, they give you contests where judges decide the winner by performance and appearance. Winning these new additions and the classic gaming experience makes a game sure to make the most bang for your buck. It ain’t perfect but any pokemon fan would be a fool not to buy this game.

Pokemon Emerald Description: Pokemon Emerald is the fifth Pokemon game of the advanced generation, after its predecessors Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, and LeafGreen. It takes place in the world of Hoenn but can also connect with Kanto-based games FireRed and LeafGreen as well. Like Pikachu and Suicune were for Yellow and Crystal respectively, Rayquaza plays a vital role in this game along with the other Legendaries, Groudon and Kyogre. Though similar to the original storyline that occurs in Hoenn, Emerald offers more changes than Yellow and Crystal.In terms of gameplay, there have been several alterations to the game:Legendaries
* Ability to catch Rayquaza before the Elite Four, as well as both Groudon and Kyogre after it.
* Changes to catching the Regis.
* Ability to catch either one of Latios or Latias.Graphics
* New outfits for the characters.
* New Pokemon animations.Features
* Ability to enter the Safari Zone Extension, where you can catch Johto (the world of Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal) Pokemon like Houndour and Miltank.
* The Battle Frontier, an island full of different battle stadiums.
* Ability to get both of the Claw and Root fossils.These are of the changes you might notice at first while playing Pokemon Emerald. However, there are lots of other improvements apart from the new storyline that separates this game from its predecessors.

UNLOCKABLES
[Altering Cave]
You can go to Altering Cave after you beat the Elite Four. It is located on Route 103.
[Battle Frontier]
Once you beat the game, you can go to the Battle Frontier.
[Berry Master's Wife Passwords]
Tell the Berry Master's Wife certain phrases to receive the following berries. You can only tell her one of these each day:
CHALLENGE CONTEST (You will receive a Pamtre Berry)
COOL LATIOS (You will receive a Durin Berry)
GREAT BATTLE (You will receive a Spelon Berry)
OVERWHELMING LATIAS (You will receive a Watmel Berry)
SUPER HUSTLE (You will receive a Belue Berry)
[Catching GSC Pokemon at the Safari Zone]
After you defeated the Elite Four, go to the Upgraded Safari Zone. In the Safari, you can catch some GSC Pokemon such as Houndour, Aipom, Stantler, Mareep, Miltank, and more GSC Pokemon. This Unlockable works only in Pokemon Emerald.
[Fishing Rods]
- Good Rod: Talk to fisherman on route 118
- Old Rod: Talk to fisherman near dewford gym
- Super Rod: In the house north of the space center
[Glass Items]
On Route 113, to the right of Fallobour Town, is house in which a man will make you items if you bring him ash. To collect ash, walk through the ash covered grass. Then bring it to the glass item maker:
- Black Flute: Walk 1,000steps in the ash.
- Blue Flute: Walk 250 steps in the ash.
- Pretty Chair: Walk 6,000 steps in the ash.
- Pretty Desk: Walk 8,000 steps in the ash.
- Red Flute: Walk 500 steps in the ash.
- White Flute: Walk 1,000 steps in the ash.
- Yellow Flute: Walk 500 steps in the ash.
[National Pokedex]
Beat the Elite 4. Proffessor Birch will visit you and give it to you once you leave your house.
[Prizes from Scott]
Talk to Scott in his house in the Battle Frontier, he'll give you certain decorations/berries depending on your accomplishments in the Battle Frontier:
- Gold Shield (Decoration): Win 100 Battles
- Lansat Berry: Obtain all Silver Frontier Symbols
- Silver Shield (Decoration): Win 50 Battles
- Starf Berry: Obtain all Gold Frontier Symbols
[Special Unlockable Pokemon]
There are certain pokemon that can only be caught when you trigger certain events, like castform:
- Beldum: See Steven's house after you beat the Elite four.
- Castform: Take out the rival team at the weather institute.
- Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Tododile: When you complete the 200 Pokemon of Hoenn. Professor Birch will call you on your Pokenav.
- Deoxys: Get the Aurara Ticket, and go to Birth Island
- Groudon: Beat the Elite Four, and go to the land lair.
- Ho-oh/Lugia: Get the Mystic Ticket, and go to Navel Island
- Kyogre: Beat the Elite Four, and go to the sea lair.
- Latios or Latias: After beating the elite four, watch the T.V. downstairs in your house.
- Latios or Latias: Mix records with a Ruby or Sapphire with the Eon ticket, and go to Southern Island.
- Mew: Get the Old Sea Chart, and go to Faraway Island
- Rayquaza: Get Magma and Aqua to get Kyogre and Groudon out of the cave, and go to Sky Pillar.
- Treeko, Torchic, or Mudkip: Help Proffesor Birch escape the wild pokemon
[National Pokedex Diploma]
Capture all 386 pokemon in your pokedex. Then go to the hotel in Lilycove City and talk to the Game Designer.
[Trainer Card Color Upgrades]
As you accomplish more along your journey, your Trainer Card will change colors and rise in rank, depending on completing certain tasks. After completing one task, it will rise in one rank, but there are some tasks that cannot be completed until beating the Elite Four. You must do these tasks:
-Become Pokemon league Champion
-Complete the Hoenn Pokedex
-Collect all the gold symbols in the Battle Frontier
-Win one ribbon in all five of the Master Rank Pokemon Contests.
Unlockables:
- Bronze Rank: Do one of the tasks mentioned above.
- Copper Rank: Do two of the tasks mentioned above.
- Silver Rank: Do three of the tasks mentioned above.
- Gold Rank: Do all four of the tasks mentioned above.
[Training on Hills]
To unlock Trainer Hill, you must beat the Elite Four.
EASTER EGGS
[Getting Latias or Latios]
After you defeat the Elite Four, go to your house and watch the television downstairs. After you watch it, your mom will ask you what color the Pokemon is. If you say Red, you will find Latias. If you say Blue, it will be Latios.
[Getting the other Lati]
To get the other Lati (Latios or Latias), Mix Records with a Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire game that used the Eon Ticket. You can then get to a hidden island via the SS Tidal where you can find the Lati you didn't choose.
[Shiny Pokemon]
Every time you encounter a pokemon you have a 1/8192 chance of the pokemon being a different color, this is called a shiny pokemon
SECRETS
[Battle Steven, the former champion]
After beating the Elite Four, a new part of Meteor Falls opens up. It is in the northwestern corner where you found Iron Tail. A new cave was made and you'll find Steven in it. His Pokemon are in the high 70's.
[Compound Eyes Second effect]
If you have a Pokemon with Compound eyes 1st in your Party it will drw Wild Pokemon that has held Items more often.
[Cut's Out of Battle effect]
Have a Pokemon use CUT to remove grass where wild Pokemon live. It will remove the chance of encountering wild Pokemon. The grass will regrow once you leave the area or enter a building.
[Cute Charm's Second Effect]
If you have a Pokemon with Cute Charm 1st in your Party it will more likely draw Wild Pokemon with the opposite gender of the Pokemon with Cute Charm.
[Faster hatching eggs]
Simply put a pokemon with the ability Flame Body or Magma Armor on your team to cut the amount of steps needed to hatch an egg in half.
[Get the Mental Herb]
In one of the treehouses in Fortree City is a man with a Wingull. Talk to the Wingull, and it will fly off out of the treehouse. When you get to Mossdeep City, you will see a person with a Wingull. Talk to it and it will fly off as well. Then go back to Fortree City and into the treehouse where you talked to the first Wingull. Talk to the man next to the Wingull, and he will give you the Mental Herb, and item which is a hold item that prevents attraction on the Pokemon that is holding it.
[Hustle's Second Effect]
If you have a Pokemon with Hustle 1st in your Party it will draw Wild Pokemon that has a Higher Level than the Pokemon that has Hustle.
[Inherit Pokemon Natures through breeding]
To do this you need an Everstone. To get one, search in Granite Cave for a lone rock on top of a plateau. Once you get an Everstone, let the a Ditto or a female Pokemon that you are breeding hold on to it. Once you receive and hatch the eggs, the offspring will have a 50% chance of inheriting the Nature from the Pokemon holding the Everstone.
[Intimadate and Keen Eye's second ability]
If you put a Pokemon that has intimidate or Keen Eye 1st in your party the chances of wild Pokemon encounter is reduced by 10%.
[Lightningrod's second ability]
If you have a poke'mon with lightningrod as an ability, you will get calls from registered trainers more often.
[Magnet Pull's secondary effect]
If you have a pokemon with the Magnet Pull ability in front of your party, it increases the chances of finding wild steel-type Pokemon. This is very useful for finding rare steel types, such as Mawile.
[Mirage Island]
Mirage Island is an invisble Island located on Route 130. Most of the time it will be invisible but on rare cases, the island will be visible. To find out if the island is there or not, go to Pacifidlog Town and talk to the old man in the bottom right house looking out the window. He will tell you wheter the island is there or not. The cause is unknown so a bit of luck is needed to find it. On the island you will find the rare Leichi Berry that powers up your Pokemon's attack in battle when it gets weak. In the grass, you will only find Wild Wynauts.
[Mystery Gift]
To unlock mystery gift, go to a pokemon mart and press A on the piece of paper on the counter. Then insert the words LINK TOGETHER WITH ALL. Press select to easily find the words. After this the store lady will talk to you and tell you that mystery gift is now unlocked.
[Static's secondary effect]
If you have a pokemon with the Static ability in the front of your party, it increases the chance of finding a wild electric type pokemon. This is EXTREMELY useful for finding rare electric types, like Pikachu in the Safari Zone.
[Suction cups/Sticky hold's second ability]
If a poke'mon in your party has suction cups/sticky hold as an ability, then you will have an easier time fishing for wild pokemon.
[Swarm's second ability]
The Pokemon ability Swarm has 2 effects. It raises Bug-type attacks by 150% when the user is weak, and, new to Emerald, it makes pokemon cry in the background more often. For example, in caves outside of battle, you will hear a Pokemon screech more often.
[Synchronize's second ability]
If you have a pokemon with synchronize as an ability, you will encounter more poke'mon with the same nature as the poke'mon with sychronize. Note that the poke'mon with this ability must be in the front of your party.

okay..i gotta admit this game is splendid and very recommendable for pokemon fans and beginners..although generation 2 stepped up when it came to the storyline because you get to play at the two regions..this game was for me, quite short but was ENJOYABLE...i loved the idea of rayquaza being able to be caught before the last gymleader and of course the experience very commendable and also the very convenient PC system compared to that of generation 2's quite tiring PC system...my only complaints are the absence of some pokemon in the previous generations(ESPECIALLY dratini and larvitar and the previous legendaries)and the switching of bikes which i would have preffered that they put the two features in one bike..all in all..a good game:)

I really enjoyed this game. It was well made i like how you can catch original pokemon and new ones. and i like how they mashed up both off the storylines from ruby and sapphire.i could only imagine actually owning this game on gba and getting to enjoy all of its in game features. like a save that works(i had my game erased 3 times and started over each time lol) but overall a freat game with tons of exciting pokemon to catch.

The Third generation of pokemon is the black sheep of the four generations, but Emerald is a thoughouly enjoyable experiance. The starters all are decent (they only were all decent in DPPt after this), EXP was good, and there were few trouble spots. A must play for pokemon fans, despite what most of the Fan Dumb would have you think.

I Like The 2nd Generation. I Mean, It's Fun. It Was Like Having 2 Games (Kanto & Johto) Put Together! Also, They Really Gave You A Hand With Shiny Pokemon. This game is the best pokemon GBA game,if you start with mudkip than you will have no problem besting the game... except the last gym, i think it's water or ice. But if you have a Swampert than you can pound them with mud shot. the fire gym was so easy!!! i could beat it with my eyes closed hands tide behind my back!!! I would say this is at least a 4 star game.

This game is awsome beacausse it has lots of action packed features but at the starting it was kind of boring but if you think this game is boring try getting farther into it and try to start watching pokemon alot more often

I find it's easier and better to use the in-game save with the rgr plugin. Haven't lost any saved games.

To all those who found shiny The game is broken and finding shiny is based on what time you encounter the pokemon. That is different depending on what save you have

It just deleted a whole's days worth of raising levels! That's crap, it loaded it just fine yesterday and now I'm back to my very first save. :( Anyone have advice as to how to get my real saving time loaded/found?

I'm not sure how you are trying to save, but the easiest way is to use the save-state function built into the emulator. F2 to save F4 to load. You can save/load at any point in the game.
