Pokemon Channel Featured Review

Pokemon Channel Review by: Lexatom - 5.4/10

This is not a video game...
Pokemon Channel...is a game...released for the Nintendo Gamecube on December 1, 2003. And in my opinion, this is the worst Pokemon game of all time. There are few things good about it, in my opinion, as you can tell from the scores I've given it up top. But those few good things are almost ignored because there are a lot more negative things about this "game." Notice how I put quotations around the word 'game'. I did that because this is not really what I or anyone else would call a game. Why is that? Let's find out.

Graphics - 9/10
This is the highest score this game gets. The graphics are actually really good and I like the Pokemon 3D models that they used in this game. They look very clear, more clear than Pokemon Colosseum or XD in my opinion. You can also go to different areas and explore or talk to each of the Pokemon there, although sometimes the background can look a bit...uh..dumb? And the 'Nice Cards' you get have Pokemon on them, kind of like real life Pokemon Cards. Except the poses they decided to use for these Nice Cards are very, very ugly.

Sound - 7/10
I mean, it's a Pokemon game about watching TV. You're not going to expect it to have "game music". And you're right, it has music you would usually find on the TV. I guess it kind of fits, but why does this whole idea of watching TV with Pikachu exist anyway? The music that plays when you're not watching TV but still inside your house is my least favorite track in the game, but I don't like pretty much any of the tracks in this game.

Addictiveness - 3/10
HA. Sorry. I laughed just typing the word addictiveness because, once you get all the shows you can watch on the TV, there's not really any more fun factor to the game, not like it was that fun to begin with. The only reason it's not as fun once you get all the shows on the TV is because the tv shows are the main point of the game. You watch TV. You may want to watch them again, but they get really boring really fast. Also, some of the shows are nothing but filler, and the game makes you watch this boring filler to be able to get another batch of shows the next day. For example, one of the shows is COUNTING SHEEP. I think this game WANTS to make me fall asleep. Who thought that was a good idea!?

Story - 2/10
Don't expect a good story out of a game like this, because there isn't one. Here I'll tell you the spoiler free story. "One day you find a Pikachu on your front porch. It goes inside your house and you watch TV with it." That's the story. And it revolves around this stupid anime short that is honestly, the worst of its kind. It's about the Pichu Bros. wanting to go to a party that they didn't get invited to. I'm not going to say why for spoiler sake, but I don't think anyone cares about spoilers in this game. Just to be safe, though, I'll keep it to myself.

Depth - 4/10
I briefly explained parts of the game's depth in the Addictiveness section in this review. Once you get all the TV shows, it's not really that fun as it was before you had all the shows. The only things left for you to do after you get all the shows is to obtain all the ugly Nice Cards, or buy everything on the shopping channel for your room. Which, still makes the room look kind of empty in my opinion. After that, you basically completed the game unless you have the e-reader cards. But, who uses those in the first place? I don't, that's for sure.

Difficulty - 2/10
Do I really need to explain how hard it is to watch a TV show? No, I'm not going to. But, to get Nice Cards in this game, you usually have to answer quiz questions given by the Pokemon around the area. These questions are usually the easiest things on Earth, but sometimes they can be trick questions. I will admit that I got some of those trick questions wrong, but very rarely. None of those questions were really that hard. Besides, if you get a question wrong, you can take the quiz again whenever you want and however many times you want. There really is no penalty for getting one of the questions wrong other than having to press the 'A' button with your cursor on the Pokemon again to talk to it.

Overall - 5.4/10
Like I said, this "game" has very few good things about it, but it has even more bad things about it. I'm still wondering how anybody thought this was a good idea, and it kind of reminds me of Hey You Pikachu. But still, I find Hey You Pikachu more entertaining than this, even though the microphone had a lot of problems with it. What do you all think about this game? Thanks for reading this review!
