Panic Restaurant (NES) Review.
Culinary Problems.

Ever heard of Taito? No? Well, as usual, let me talk about the company before starting with this... If you know about the history of the Arcades, then you should know something about this company... But if you don't... The company (Known back then as "Taito trading company") started importing and distributing vending machines, later, they manufactured Jukeboxes, and finally... They started producing electro-mechanical arcade games. Then, in the '73. They changed their name to "Taito Corporation" and one of it's designers created the most popular game in the history of the Arcade games, and which also started the "Golden era of the Video Games": Space Invaders... Due to the success of the same, they opened an American division 6 years later... Soon they started producing more and more games. Not only for the Arcades. They also made games for home systems. Such as the NES, SNES and Genesis. This is where the today's game comes, that game is... Panic Restaurant, which was published by Taito, and released for the NES in 1992. Interested? Keep reading this review then...

Story: It seemed to be just another day on Chef Cookie's life... He was going to open his restaurant. The most succeful of the city, by the way... When, a bunch of vegetables came out of the nothing, and knocked him off. Then, the responsible of this action appeared: Ohdove. The Cookie's rival chef... Who, Jealous of the success of his enemy, took over his Restaurant. But, that wasn't all. He somehow gave life to all the food on it and made it his army. Now cookie has to free his restaurant, and stop Ohdove and his "army". Of course, this won't be easy. So, You (Who else?) will have to help him. (7/10)

Graphics: As you can see... This game has amazing graphics. With big and colorful sprites, (especially big, just take a look at some of the bosses, and you'll see) which are also pretty well animated. Cookie's animations are very well done, along with the animations of some enemies. Backgrounds are simple, but really big and full of details at the same time. (Those giant pans...) (8/10).

Sound: Great, The music of the game is mainly composed by "happy" music, having a few exceptions (Such as the boss theme). In fact, the songs have a very good quality... Even the SFX sounds good. A bit annoying... But still good.

Addictiveness: Well, what can I say here? It has a fair amount of addictiveness. Quite addictive, but not much. It's the kind of the game that you would play until finishing with it. (7/10)

Depth: Let's see here...  This is how you control Cookie: By pressing "A", he'll jump, and by pressing "B", he'll use his current weapon. Yeah, his current weapon. Through the stages you can find cookware, which is used as weapons. There are wooden spoons, Pans, a Fork (Used as a pogo), etc. However, if you are hit, you'll lose the weapon... (This doesn't affect one of the weapons: the Eggs) There are 6 stages in total, every one harder than the previous, and with a boss at the end of it.  New enemies will appear on every one of these. If you defeat one an enemy, it will drop a coin. These coins are used at the bonus stages. (A Slot Machine that gives extra lives, Health Points, etc.) Also, there's a hidden bonus room in every stage, Which consists of a mini game... As you see, this game offers a lot. (8/10)

Difficulty: As usual, the difficulty increases at every stage... It increases a lot... So, If I were you, I would practice. (8/10)

Final Rating: 8.5.

One of the best games of the NES, pretty fun and full of variety... What are you waiting for? Go and play it!

Panic Restaurant Game Description

Panic Restaurant is a side-scrolling platform game where you play as chef Cookie. The rival chef Ohdove has taken over his restaurant and it's up to Cookie to reclaim it.It is a fairly basic platform game. You run and jump, and enemies are placed all around to try and stop you. The entire game, backgrounds, enemies and bosses, is food-themed. You encounter things such as sausages, microwave ovens, onions and hamburgers on your way through the restaurant. To your help you always have a frying pan to beat the enemies with, and you can also find other items, such as a spoon, and plates to throw at the enemies. The game contains 6 stages, each in a separate location in the restaurant, such as the kitchen, freezer and basement. At the end of each level you are faced with a boss. In between each level is a bonus game where you play a slot machine to try and win some extra health and lives.

This is a great game. One of those "hidden gems" released at the end of the NES lifespan after people had already shifted their focus on SNES.
