Ninja Gaiden Review   Zircron Swift
Man, I just love this game. It's the ninja game I've dreamed about playing. It has everything, fast paced action, wall jumping, different attacks involving fire and spin attacks in the air....it's awesome, unlike some other ninja games I played (cough Shinobi cough). This game was something special when it came out, with it's tight game play and pretty amazing graphics, it was a very challenging yet enjoyable game to play. So lets look into this ninja classic.
The story is, hey wait a moment, somethings happening! It's almost as if the game is being played by itself, yet with different graphics and angels that aren't in the game. It's a scene of some kind, yet it cuts in the game....I think I'll call it a cut scene. Today, cut scenes are very common, almost in every game. They're there to bring some of the story to life and move us forward in the game. But back then, they were very rare. In fact, this game was probably the only one of it's time to have such a cut scene this epic. Even it's in 8 bit and the sounds are limited and they don't have voice acting, but you can't help but feel something when seeing the opening cut scene to the first level when the music plays. Oh yeah, the story....
Well, we see two ninjas having a duel in the night, and one loses. Then Ryu (this is an entirely different Ryu to Street Fighter), finds a letter from his Dad saying that he went to a life or death battle and he might not return. If he is not to return, then Ryu must take the Dragon Sword to America and talk to Walter Smith. Nice name, Walter Smith. So Ryu wants revenge for his Farther and sets out to America. This has a pretty deep story line for a NES game. it's detailed, it's got mystery, it's got that blood lust you feel when playing that revenge often seeks in your body, yeah, it's a good story.
When I first started playing this game, I was a little giddy for some reason. I spent a little time running back and forth, getting to grips with the controls. I attacked, jumped and attacked, I ran and attack, I did it all. Then I went to play the game. The first stage isn't that hard. It's challenging first time gamers, but gives them the knowledge they need for future levels. This includes wall jumping, a feature all ninja games should have. Even Mario games have wall jumping! Yet Shinobi was unable to include this feature in their games....This game also lets you hit candles or side posts to give you power-ups. These require points, which can be obtained through the same method. You can throw fire, have a 360 degree sword attack, and even throw the fabled shuriken.
The music is pretty amazing. They play epic pieces for epic levels, they play soft and sweet music for soft and sweet parts. The music, however, lacks the epicness that makes the music a 9 instead of a 10. Megaman 2 owns this epicness, but it is better than Ninja Gaiden by a shy or two. The graphics have that culture wonder to it. It explores different parts of the world through out the game, in which it captures it in 8-bit beautifully, while making the layout bright or gloomy when need be. Although sometimes I feel like they didn't put as much work into the boss sprites. They seem lazy and just mashed together for the most part.
The game as a lot to offer with fresh level design. Some parts just feel so...Ninja like, like having to wall jump down a wall, then jump off it to a platform not far....genius! And sometimes, it takes an entirely different route to things, such as moving from right to left, instead of the normal left to right. This feels weird, let right at the same time. You feel like your exploring more of the area around you. Some parts of the level make it a lot harder than it need to be, though. I was really pleased to find a way to wall jump on just one wall. Made me feel like a real ninja, plus it's helpful for getting out of sticky situations.
This game isn't hard. It's far from hard. Hard is when you are challenged, but there is a possibility you can do it. Castlevania is hard. This game is so far from hard it makes an entirely different level of difficulty on it's own accord. This game is insane! Sure, the first four stages are hard, they are enjoyable, but when you get to stage five, then you start to see this games true colours. The level design gets devilish, the enemies are placed incontinently, and the walls....the walls are so annoying! You jump to get over an enemy, but you cling to the wall, ruining your perfect plan of jumping over the enemy. So you have to improvise, and jump off and attack them, but then you get hit by that enemy and fall into a pit. Rinse, lather, repeat. That is the story of stage five. The story of stage six? 6-1 is ok, but 6-2 is an entirely different matter altogether. It's mean, it's devilish, and you'll spend most of your time here. I could never get passed it. Besides, even if I did get passed it, then I would need to get through another stage, then a three stage boss, in which death would bring me back to 6-1 again. I'll never defeat this game without some cheat code.
Overall, I give this game a 8.9/10        This classic game brings intense platforming at it's best. It's stunning graphics and well set up music makes a great experience, but the real experience lies in playing as a Ninja that can wall jump and can control his jumps in mid-air. If only we had more ninja games like this, only a tad easier, or maybe a little bit easier, or maybe something possible! Maybe the true game lies in the difficulty, if it were too easy, it wouldn't feel so epic, but if it were too hard, then.....hey wait a minute! This game is too hard, and would like to see some relief in the difficulty near the end.

Ninja Gaiden - Fast paced and Super Hard   Sephirothxxxxxx..
Today I'm going to review Ninja Gaiden for NES. This game is a perfect example of how to do difficult, high octane side-scrolling action on the NES. Developed by Tecmo and released in 1988 in Japan and 1989 in North America, Ninja Gaiden made a massive gaming innovation by being one of the first games to ever use cutscenes. While it had its great points like interesting story and nice graphics, Ninja Gaiden also proved to be very hard and sometimes unforgiving. Read along as I rate the aspects of the game and, if you haven't played it yet, convince you to try it for yourself!
Graphics-9- The graphics in this game are very well done, and this shows the best in the cutscenes. The developers did a great job of making detailed sprites and environments that have done well at standing the test of time. There's rarely a time in Ninja Gaiden that you will see an enemy that looks similar to another, completely different one. There is lots of variation, and it looks great. The cutscenes are the most detailed aspect of the game. They are smoothly animated, very well done, and when I see them I can't help but think of "Fist of the North Star".
Sound-10- The sound in this game is phenomenal. Everything about it- the music, sound affects, everything - is great. The levels each have a great theme that perfectly fits their design. The developers took special attention to detail when adding sound effects. Your character will make a landing sound upon landing, every weapon makes a noise when swung or fired, etc. If I'm not mistaken, there is a sound effect for nearly every, if not 100% every, thing in this game.
Addictiveness-10- This game deserves that entire "10" rating when it comes to addictiveness.  There's always something to kill on the screen, and the levels are splashed with point bags and power-ups. Top it off with wall-jumping and high speed hacking and slashing and you've got a recipe for a successful side-scroller.
Story-7- The story in this game is interesting. Here's the basics: your father, Ken, has recently been killed in a duel and before he leaves  for this duel he leaves a letter behind for your character, Ryu Hayabusa. The letter tells Ryu to find an archaeologist named Walter. Ryu finds him, learns of 2 very important items that hold the potential to end the world, and sets out to find them. Along the way you will meet some significant characters and find yourself in numerous events all while trying to a) avenge your father and b) keep these 2 items from falling into the wrong hands. The story may sound cliché in this review, but it is in fact an interesting story that is told very well through the cutscenes in a way that no game could tell a story in the same way before it. If you haven't noticed yet, I place big emphasis on these cutscenes. They do their job very well and I have found them to be unique.
Depth-7- I rated the depth with a "7" because, despite being a side-scroller, there is a lot to do. There is a slew of enemies, which succeeds in making the game longer, and on top of that the game has a grand total of 20 lengthy levels and 8 bosses that only become harder and harder as you progress. However, I feel this game could have been even better if they had implemented a 2-player mode and a second story, similar to "second quest" in The Legend of Zelda.
Difficulty-8- The only thing that keeps this game from being a solid "10" is the fact that it isn't as hard as its NES sequels: Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 (2 is harder than the first one, and 3 is drastically harder than the 1st and second.). The first level is a normal difficulty level that can prove to be a breeze even for new players. After that, though, it starts to take a hairpin turn into Difficulty Avenue. Only when you beat this game can you truly be a "big boy now". It only gets harder and harder from the start, and you will need some serious patience if you want to brave this game. Thankfully, the developers gave us a saving grace by giving you infinite continues. I won't try to spoil anything by talking about bosses and such. You will just have to play for yourself.
Well here we are at the end. I'll be honest, I tried to not sound bias when I did this review. I will be honest, I never played this game as a kid. At the time of making this review, I am only 16 years old. When you live in the age where "graphics mean everything" you don't always come across someone with such a passion for these gems as I have. That hopefully proves that I am not blinded by the rose-tinted goggles of nostalgia - I really do feel the way I do about this game. I hope you enjoyed reading this review as much as I did making it. The game is serious fun to play, but I'm not responsible if you break your keyboard, or in my case, the controller. Now if you will excuse me, I have some gaming to do. *Runs into the basement and turns on his NES.*

Ninja Gaiden Review   THEKILLERJUNKER
So you think you’ve mastered them all aye? You’ve beat the likes of Castlevania, Battletoads, Contra, Ghosts n’ Goblins, and countless others in the NES library and you are set before you the final challenge: NINJA GAIDEN. Since its release, this game has been noted as one of the most unfair, unforgiving, and downright difficult games ever made. Despite its ridiculous difficulty, it’s one of the best titles for the NES and a must have for anyone who likes platformers. Along with its difficulty, the game had eye popping visuals, great music, and addictive gameplay. It had it all. So let’s get started. Such a huge game and so little time.
Graphics - 9
One of the game’s biggest highlights at the time was its revolutionary cutscenes. Very few games had cutscenes at all let alone cutscenes this good. The game uses elements of action, film noire, and even anime. The characters all look great although the game’s antagonist ,Jaquio, looks a little odd. Not only are the cutscenes superb but the stages, enemies, and bosses which you see are also well done. The stages are all different and none show any resemblance to each other whatsoever. The enemies are also pretty cool and fit the game’s theme rather well. But by far, the best looking game sprites are the bosses. Each have their own unique look and grow more and more difficult as you traverse through the game. With all that this game has going, I give it a solid 9/10 in the graphics department.
Sound - 8
Along with good graphics comes the game’s sound. And for what it is, the music and overall sound is also well done. Rather than be annoying and repetitive like most games for the NES, Ninja Gaiden’s soundtrack is among one of the best in the NES along with games like Silver Surfer and Castlevania. Each stage has it’s own theme although some stages do repeat older level themes. The sound effects are also satisfying to listen. Slashing enemies are so enjoyable and hearing bosses explode into balls of flames is a bittersweet feeling. A nice touch that TECMO added is that whenever Ryu lands on a platform or clings to a wall, you hear a distinct thud. Never does a theme or sound feel out of place during the game. With that said, I give this game an 8/10 for its sound.
Addictiveness - 8
Like most games for the NES, Ninja Gaiden is very addictive and will leave you coming back for more. Of course it wards off potential gamers with its difficulty but on the contrary, the difficulty is the reason why many gamers come back and play. You get frustrated at dying constantly to the point where enjoyment doesn’t matter anymore. What matters is that you can sleep tonight knowing that you were able to make it farther in a level or beat that once impossible boss than you did the previous session. You try to meet the game’s demands…. only to get punished some more. It’s a cycle: you die and rather than just giving up, you persevere regardless of whether you get better or not. Being able to say “I BEAT NINJA GAIDEN ON NES!” is already enough to make most gamers stick around. And it’s not like you get a limited amount of continues and have to start from the beginning once you lose all three lives. The game has unlimited continues and always starts at the beginning of the level you died in so there’s no excuse for you to shut off your NES. Finally, after enough patience, countless game overs, and many sleepless nights, you find your hard work finally paying off as you enter new levels, face new bosses, and slowly master the game mechanics. Needless to say, this game deserves a nice 8/10 for it’s addictiveness.
Story - 7
Alright. So the story is that 2 ninjas set out for a duel one night. One ninja would end up victorious while the other died as a result. We cut to the son of the man who died in the duel, Ryu Hayabusa as he reads a letter from his father Ken (Yes Ryu and Ken, obvious Streetfighter reference. Moving on). In the letter, Ken instructs Ryu to leave the big city and find his lifelong friend, an archeologist named Walter Smith. Unfortunately, after fending off a massive demon at a seedy bar, Ryu ends up knocked unconscious by a CIA agent named Irene Lew. When he wakes from his sleep, she gives him a bizarre statue and tells him to keep it with him at all times. When he questions her, she ignores him and vanishes without a trace. Ryu continues his journey until he finally contacts Walter Smith. At Walter’s house, he tells Ryu that the statue he possesses is one of two twin statues that, when united with one another, awaken an all powerful demon that will bring chaos and destruction to the world. As they discuss about the possibilities of such a vision, a ninja comes, steals the statue Irene gave to Ryu and sets off. Ryu runs after the ninja and when he returns with the statue he finds Walter dying after an encounter with a demon. Before he can do anything, CIA agents come and abduct Ryu. At CIA headquarters, they instruct Ryu that a demon sorceror named Jaquio is after the demon statues and that he is the only one who can stand a chance against Jaquio and his demon army. Ryu, determined as ever, sets off after Jaquio. Now THAT’S what you call a plot. None of this “save the princess” garbage. No wonder I never skip the cutscenes (other than they look really good). I give this story a 7/10 for its unique premise.
Depth - 8
This game has a lot to offer other than fast paced gameplay, stunning visuals, and impressive sound. For starters, you get all these secondary weapons and upgrades as you venture from level to level. Depending on your enemies and bosses, some weapons do more damage than others. You have a variety of weapons to choose from. Shuriken, Windmill shuriken, Fire jutsu, and countless others. Not only do you have all these secondary weapons, but you also have a wide variety of common enemies to slay. There’s your common thugs who walk slower than molasses, your fast moving four legged monstrosities, your aerial projectiles, and countless other varieties of enemies. Because of this, and the curiosity to see the rest of story, you are far from bored and feel as if you really are out on an adventure in search for the demon statues and for the final battle against Jaquio. Because of this, I give this game a solid 8/10.
Difficulty - 10
Along being one of the first games to have cutscenes, Ninja Gaiden has been remembered by gamers for its relentless difficulty and unforgiving standards. It is without a doubt one of the most difficult games on the NES. It may also be one of the most difficult games ever made. The reason behind all this attention? Two flaws. Two flaws that work against the game’s enjoyability and can sometimes make your experience a chore rather than a pleasure. Now you may say “Two flaws? Pfft. That’s bull! Two flaws can’t upscale the difficulty of a game.” But just you wait and see how these flaws go beyond your wildest nightmares. Here we go. Flaw #1: If you kill any enemy at the very edge of the screen, they will respawn INFINITELY. This is a serious issue as you end up losing ammunition for your secondary weapons trying to kill these respawning enemies. Not to mention, it throws your concentration away as you try to kill this enemy while 3 or 4 others are trying to hit you. Which brings us to Flaw #2: If an enemy hits you, you jump back. Ninja Gaiden seems to suffer from Castlevania syndrome where you end up falling back after contact with an enemy or projectile. And this happens in the worst scenarios as well. Trust me when I say that you will die a lot more by enemies hitting you causing you to fall into a pit rather than by taking too many hits. It doesn’t matter where you happen to be. If you end up hit by an enemy it seems that you will gravitate to the nearest pit and die. These flaws severely handicap the player to the point where it’s almost physically impossible to complete some of the later stages. Because of the these flaws, I give this game a whole 10/10 for its difficulty.
Overall - 8.3/10
Despite being known for its relentless difficulty and unfair standards, Ninja Gaiden is considered by many to be one of the best games for the NES. And to be honest, it’s not hard to realize why. Ninja Gaiden was such a success that it spawned two more sequels for the NES: Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. The sequels continued with cutscene elements and relentless difficulty. Overall Ninja Gaiden was a significant title for the NES at the time as it helped pioneer the use of cutscenes in a game. It’s also a game that leaves a lasting impression as one of the most enjoyable and downright difficult games ever made for a console. My overall score is an 8.3 out of 10. This game is a must have for any NES collector seeking for a good challenge. If you want a game that frustrates you to try new lengths and tricks than this is for you. Hope you get the chance to try it out yourself and see what you think about it.

The Start of a Hard and Difficult Game   Redxsparrow
   Tecmo is the creator of this fine game. Tecmo was a Japanese video game company that was founded in 1967. The company was formerly known as Tehkan and first started off selling cleaning equipments. During 1981, Tekhan released an arcade game titled Pleaids (known as Centuri in America). This game was known as the first arcade game. The company also released games such as World Cup and Bomb Jack. In 1986, they changed their name to what is known today, Tecmo.
   In December, 1988, Tecmo corporation produced an NES game known as Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden is a platform game. The story of this game starts off with Ryu receiving a letter from his father saying that he will go into a duel with an unknown warrior. When his father did not return from the duel, Ryu went to America and seek a guy named Walter Smith. When he was there, the CIA agents kidnapped him and gave him a statue of a beast. Eventually, Ryu met Walter and he questioned him about why he has a statue. Walter explained that his father had the other statue and when they both joined, an evil demon will awake.
   During the conversation, a guy breaks in and stole the statue. Ryu chased for the statue and retrieves it. When he came back, Walter has been killed and moments later, Ryu is captured again by three armed men. Ryu was taken to a questioned room, where he was addressed by a man named Foster, the director of the CIA. He explained to Ryu that they have been spying the activities of a creature or someone named Jaquio. Foster ordered Ryu to go eliminate the creature in the jungle of Brazil. While he reached the mountains in Brazil, he found Jaquio. Jaquio was killed during the fight, but the demon was awaken. Ryu was able defeat the demon leaving it as an awesome battle. This is the story of Ninja Gaiden.
   Ninja Gaiden is filled with an awesome story, fantastic scenes, epic music, and a challenging atmosphere. The story is awesome because the main player is a ninja going to America and Brazil to kill a demon and leaves with an ending that you will never forget. The story was well thought out.
   Ninja Gaiden was the first video game to have cut scenes. The scenes were memorable and nobody back then had seen anything like it. Throughout the scenes he would normally say "What the.......?!" ,making it attractive to the player. The music is so epic because it follows the rhythm of the story and the cut scenes.
   The game is really challenging. The complication of the game is filled with enemies trying to kill you. This makes it hard for the player to control and to add on to the challenge, once Ryu kills an enemy it responds back and the player would waste its ninjitsu powers. There are so much pits in this game that you would most likely to fall in. A common complaint about this game is when Ryu gets hit by an enemy, he  falls back. This complaint is the same as Castlevania when Simon gets hit, he falls back.
   Ninja Gaiden is one of the best game in the NES library. The designer of the game, Shuichi Sakurazaki, really put so much effort into this game. As it says on the boxart "The Fight of Your Life," it really is a big fight of your entire life.

A fun game not for beginners   bubblemanftw
Ninja Gaiden is the 1st game in the NES trilogy. It was made in 1989 by Tecmo, who also made Tecmo Super Bowl.

I like the sound effects a lot and the music, in my opinion, is the best in the NES library. Awesome beats, epic melody, nice use of the instruments and stage 4-2 is one of my favorite video game themes of all time.
Addictiveness
Fun slashing and throwing weapons at people especially with the awesome sound effects. Being able to jump wall to wall is unique and fun. The addictiveness score would be higher if the game was not so hard.
Story
The story starts when Ryu Hayabusa, the coolest ninja ever, goes to America so he can kill people to avenge his father's death. This beginning story makes it more fun and satisfying killing people (Or making them disappear.....)
Depth
This is one of the first games, if not, the first game to offer cutscenes. The game is a little long for a NES game with 22 stages (including bosses) but after beating it, there is nothing else to do in the game. There is only one difficulty. It did offer other weapons to collect though.
Difficulty
This is one of the hardest NES games worth playing. Enemies are fast and hard to hit, ammo for your weapons are scarce, the sword you start of with is short in range, there are lots pits, and you fly back when you get hit, increasing your chance of falling into pits (this is a even bigger problem than Castlevania). This game contains one of the hardest stages in video game history: stage 6-2. Also, in act 6, if you die in the final three bosses (stages 6-4, 6-5, and 6-6) they send you back to stage
6-1, making you do the incredibly hard stage 6-2 again. The bosses are very tough too.
Overall
One of the greatest NES games in my opinion. This game is very overlooked because of the difficulty. Sadly, beginners cannot share much of this game's greatness because of the difficulty too.

"Two ninjas face each other,they run and clash their sword in mid-air...they fall to the ground and one dies...his name....was Ken Hyabusa" That is how you open a game right there.THATS What hooks you onto Ninja Gaiden.
GRAPHICS: Best Looking NES Game to Date. Excellent animations and carefully choreographed cutscenes.Ninja Gaiden III Is the only game to come close to the originals look.
SOUND: All you need to know is that the Act 4-2 song kicks-ass. This game has some of the NES'S Greatest tunes.
ADDICTIVENESS: Tight and excellent game play makes this one of the greatest games ever created by a human being.So fun!
STORY: Ninja Gaiden has a kick-ass story. Ryu Hyabusa comes to the United States to avenge his fathers death.THAT Alone should make you feel the heat.
DEPTH: Not a very long game but theres so much stuff you can mess around with. Reason why it will take you so long isssssssssssss......
DIFFICULTY: This. Ninja Gaiden games will always chew you up no matter what. Act 6-2 in particular will take you an eternity to beat.
OVERALL: Despite being difficult as ASSSSSSSSS Ninja Gaiden still maintains a HUGE Fun factor and cannot be overlooked just for excruciating difficulty. I Give Ninja Gaiden a 10/10

A "Suicide Game"   ThunderGaming
First, allow me to elaborate on that title. A "Suicide Game" is a game that is so rage-quit-inducing that it reaches a point when you want to kill yourself. Ninja Gaiden is an example. You play as Ryu Harabusa on a quest to slaughter all the bad guys. I'm not talking about why you're doing it because this game has the best storyline and cut-scenes on the grey box - not counting sequels.
This game has a great sound-track. I was bopping my head to these songs when I wasn't dying. I did that a lot. The game also has a great amount of polish. Each individual sprite looks well-designed and the colors never fail to impress. It runs at a constant pace with no noticeable slowdown or flickering like many games on the grey box did. *Cough* Megaman 1-6 *Cough*
The game also has a good pace even though jumping is problematic, due to your inability to change direction. This can get you killed - something you get used to after your 8th game over. I did have fun with it, even if it did make me want to jab pigeons in my eyes and sing "Baby" for twenty minutes before I bleed to death.
Overall, this is a very fun game and will put a smile on your face every time you get past a difficult obstacle - only to send something more difficult your way. Play it if you haven't already, especially if you need something to get you to shove that knife in your chest.

Time to review another video game, this time, it will be...
Ninja Gaiden! :S
How to play: You play as a ninja named Ryu (not the Street Fighter Ryu character) who is bound to find out who somehow killed his dad. Ryu, the ninja gets very mad and sets out to find out who did it, who would it be? You get 3 lives, there isn't a possible to way to find a 1-up unless you are lucky enough to find some very hidden 1-up places. When you lose all of your lives, it is Game Over, and to continue, you just have to press the start button. I am not kidding, it is just like Astanyax on the NES, it is the same thing, you press the start button on the game over screen. Every time you lose a life, you lose half of your ammo that you had, and your weapon you had goes "Bye bye". If you Game Over, you lose ALL of your ammo. You can get many weapons and powerups that can help you on your quest. You have infinite continues, but there is NO stage select code, not even Game Genie has a helpful code, or a password system. Unfortuantly, there is a password system, but only on the japanese version of the game. ;_; NINTENDO OF AMERICA, what have you done to the difficulty!? >: >_<

It is average for the NES, but then they add 2.5D (?) floors and walls, you can only move 2D, so what was the point of putting in 2.5D floors and walls? I don't know, you will have to find out. What was so surprising was the cutscenes, this was probably the first ever video game to have cutscenes. Anyways, the graphics are rated as a 8.
Sounds - 7
Nintendo tried as good as they could with the sounds due to the NES having like OVER 9000 limits on everything in the system. But alas, some music is good, although the NES had a lot of limits, it was nice to hear music that seemed good. I rate the sounds a 7.
Addictiveness - 6
You will find this game annoying due to it's difficulty, but you might end up getting to the point where you probably will never play the game again. So I give the addictiveness a 6.
Story - 6
The story seemed kind of nice, it says that Ryu, the ninja finds out that his dad had died from a unknown solution, it is up to the ninja to help track down who tried to and killed his dad. Seemed kind of nice. Ninjas are crazy mad, which fits with the story. I give the story a 6.
Depth - 7 (this part contains roman numbers)
Counting every possible stage shown here, I will check how many sections there in total, act I has 2 sections, Act II has 3 sections, Act III, IV, and V have maybe 4 sections, and then Act VII has 5 sections, so that is around 22 sections counting every boss. Also, there are 6 Acts! Wow! O_O I give the depth a 7.
Difficulty - 10
I finally get to talk about the difficulty! What makes the game nearly impossible to beat? Well, I will explain every reason that "I" know of:
• Tough pits, there are a lot when you get to Act II and higher, but that is one reason.
• Getting knocked back, that I'd exactly like every castlevania game, every time you get hit, you fly back, so if you are near a pit and it happens, depending on either what side the opponent hits you in, or where you face before you get hit, you can end up flying back into a pit, that is reason 2.
• Insane levels / portions, thank god there is individual sections, so if you would Game Over like on the second section of the act, you will restart on section 2 of the act that you played. Reason 3.
• Reason #4, hard bosses. Each boss has a random pattern, but the patterns take so long to get used to and you won't know what attack that the boss does.
• The 5th and final reason, control. If you try to move the opposite direction that you are facing when you are jumping, you go backwards slowly, maybe slower than the Slowpoke pokemon, I don't know.
Overall - 5
I will let this game off the hook, but it is really hard, although the game has good sounds and music, everything else is maybe "downhill". If you ever find this game, play at your OWN risk! If you play this game, you may start going into a possible rage / ragequit.

Ninja Gaiden "I" (NES)   Monchete
So, Ninja Gaiden for the NES is the first of a trilogy of sidescrolling action. The game has a very fast and dynamic gameplay, but most of his fame is because how difficult this game was. In fact, this was one of (if not) the most difficult games on the NES. So I'm going to review this gem:
Graphics 10: For NES standards, this is a cool-looking game. Not only because of the environment you try to overcome, but because this was one of the first games to introduce cutscenes which were something amazing at that time because they were pretty detailed and remember; these cutscenes were made on a 8-bit console. So yeah, most of the 10 comes from these amazing cutscenes
Sound 10: The music goes pretty well with the gameplay; it is fast and frenetic. For example the first level's music is amazing (maybe because you might stay there for a long time) and the sound effects are not creaky, in fact, they feel realistic. In conclusion, its soundtrack is pretty great, although it is pretty overlooked
Addictiveness 10: Trust me when I say that you will be likely to replay this game a lot of times, mostly because you want to get past through all the stages in order to continue playing or just for having some fun with his previous mentioned fast paced gameplay which trust me; you have to play to believe it
Story 9: Most of the time, a game's story doesn't really bothers me because I want to smash things, but this game has a pretty good story, in which Ryu Hayabusa has to travel to America to avenge his father, then he finds out that the one who did it wants to revive a demon called Jachio (sorry if I mispelled). It's a pretty standard story but still doesn't feel stupid and pointless.
Depth 9: Although it seems like a pretty straight-forward game, you have a lot to discover; weapons, bosses and some great challenge which encourages replayability a lot, even more than you would think. Also, you can try to win the game in a lot of ways like with no weapons or something like that
Difficulty 9: This is one of the biggest points of the game and the one which defines the entire franchise; it is freaking hard. The game's frenetic gameplay, the great amount of enemies on screen and the fact that Ryu usually falls to his death when hit makes this a really hard game in which you will die more than once, I ensure this. But the reason I do not give it a 10 is because sometimes it feels cheap, mostly because the enemies will infinitely respawn if they are on the edge of the screen which makes some jumps a pin in the ass, for example, the stage 6-2, in which there is a point where you need to jump to another platform but there is an infinitely respawning eagle which blocks your jump. So you need to kill the eagle but while you try to jump but it is easier said than done because at the time you jump, it will respawn, leading you to death. And speaking of world 6, there is a very troll thing which could lead to some people to stop playing the game and some people would ragequit when they encounter this: So, you are trying to defeat Jachio, which is the final boss and yes, it is a three phase boss which obviously, it is very hard. But this is the least of your problems because if you die to this boss (which you will do), you think: "Oh, so it brings me back to 6-3 or the beginning so I can try it" but nope, it brings you BACK TO THE LEVEL 6-1 so you not only need to beat all the three levels, but also 6-2 and his unfair leap of death. Luckily, if you beat one of Jachio's forms, he will stay in said form the next time you get there, so that is a good point. In conclusion, not for heart-sensibles.
Overall 9,8: If you are a good player, go ahead, this is a good challenge for you, but if you aren't very good at sidescrollers, you would probably get your butt handed

Hey guys its me VGMX bringing you a Vizzed VideoGame Review today's review will be on Ninja Gaiden and you may be asking yourself "I thought he already did this review!"
Well guess what I decided to re-post this in the better style which I call "improvement"
And I think I have more experience this time but who am I to brag? I am going to have to have your opinion... Plus I didn't like the way I did my Ninja Gaiden review after reading it I think I was pretty bored... And guess what I got this son of a gun game from eBay and guess what? I actually got to Act 6-2 and guess what? ITS IMPOSSIBLE! I EVEN HAD TO USE MY GAME GENIE TO BEAT THE ENTIRE GAME! Anyways... Lets start this...
Graphics: 8
For the NES the graphics are colurful though this game is horribly outdated the graphics don't matter much unless you know what it is I mean A26 games looked choppy but are still fun to play same goes for this game
Sound: 10
Tecmo really showed us good music and sound I even hum the Act 5-1 Theme every time I am bored the sounds are good too but again I have nothing to say other than that I can hum Act 5-1 Theme

50/50 because I only play this game when I am pissed off and bored what makes it addicting is that music and sounds and other stuff the downside is that the game can make you piss off and ragequit when I played this sucker I never gave up until I played this all night and decided to call it for today because I was tired

It goes something like this... Ryu's father fights another ninja who then Ryu's father is killed later Ryu recieves a letter from his dad before his death the letter tells Ryu to go to America to see an archeologist Walter Smith before reaching Walter's place Ryu is shot by a woman who gives Ryu a wierd demon statue so he then finally reaches Walter's place and then Walter explains that Ryu's father, Ken Hayabusa and Walter where protecting two demon statues (same that Ryu got from the woman that shot Ryu) that if combined during an eclipse a demon that was defeated by Shinobi and awakes every 700 years would revive (I will leave the rest to you) Overall the story is pretty creative I have only one problem you know back then there was two Ryu one from Ninja Gaiden and one from Street Fighter wouldn't it been confusing? And to get it more messed up they had to name Ryu's father, Ken Hayabusa... Yeah...
Depth: 10
This game has a lot to offer and it takes forever to beat it! What this game offers is power-ups, unlimited continues, and last but not least one of the first cut scenes in videogame history. Common today sure, but back then no one saw anything like it!
The power-ups in this game are Shruikens, Ninja Stars, Fire Power, a Spinning Attack like Sonic, and a Fire Wheel which is like the Invicibility Star. I love all of the power-ups and are pretty useful at times and since this game is hard you will have a marathon for sure
Difficulty: 10
The only problem with this game is that it is extremely difficult! Like I said in the beginning of the review the farthest I reached is Act 6-2 and I had to use my Game Genie to beat it. What makes it hard is the exaggeration of difficulty for example, if you get hit you get knocked back much like Simon Belmont and if you are near a hole you are likely to fall to oblivion and most of the enemies can drain your health and the worst enemies are the Hunchbacks, the Birds, the Ninjas with Jetpacks and I can talk about some more but those are the main 3 I hate! Also some platforms that are so small and short like freaking Short Shorts! Have a freaking enemy on it! But I then accidently discovered a Wall Climbing Glitch in the game which fixed the problem... Kind of, but wait the worst is yet to come! Its that damn flaw that makes enemies that are on the edge of the screen to re-spawn! Not only is it a pain in the rear end to kill something you killed already its also pain when you are in a tight situation, but there is a bright side! You can rack up points! Nice... Does that mean I am getting a Videogame Guisness World Record? Anyways... This game still remains one of the hardest games on the NES Library this game was so hard that it even got 2 sequels for the NES and others for the modern consoles and in the last days I played Ninja Gaiden I haven't even beat the entire game, but I will soon enough...
Overall: 8.7
Despite its atrocious difficulty this game is still fun to play and addictive, though the series I think are gone or dead by now... We can still enjoy what Tecmo has done other than to piss off with this masterpiece, but in the end if you keep trying you will be able to beat it and that is why people like ProtonJon beat the gaiden.

Ninja Gaiden....a trilogy I've waited long enough to review, now I'm starting. I will be reviewing Ninja Gaiden II and III after this. This game is a very special NES game, and it was probably the game to blow the minds of all the children in the 80's. Ninja Gaiden was released in 1989, developed by Tecmo, and it set a lot of standards. This game was a hit, and there was even a port on the SNES titled Ninja Gaiden trilogy. It contained Ninja Gaiden I, II, and III all in one neat little package. And I can finally review this game. This game was even referenced in the 1989 film, The Wizard. Back then, no one knew how to pronounce Gaiden. It was like Street Fighter. No one knew how to pronounce Ryu. In the movie, the old Chinese man that the three kids meet corrects them. "No! Ninja Gaiden!" A lot pronounced it GAY-DEN. But officially, it's GUY-DEN, in case you were wondering. Now, I know I'm probably boring you by going on about the history, so I'll just conclude this. Ladies and gents, here is my review for Review  Ninja Gaiden.
Story: 8/10
Okay, woah. The story of this game is VERY impressive. It's not just a bad guy kidnapping a princess, and the hero has to rescue her, no this is entirely different. This story is interesting and connecting because there's actual cutscenes in this game. There's dialogue, characters, and there's character sprites too. Every kid in the 80's wanted to find out what would happen next. After you beat a level, there's a cutscene, and thankfully, they're a good length. It was mind blowing for NES standards. The only thing I hated was that there's people carrying guns in the cutscenes. The main character even gets shot in the first. (SPOILER). When I was eight, I was paranoid that my mother would return the game if she found out about this. The main character even says throughout the trilogy, "What the.....?" He was obviously ending that sentence with the mother of curse words. It's very easy to comprehend the story because of the well-designed cutscenes. The story is about a ninja named Ryu and a father named Ken that...wait, wait, wait. Ken and Ryu? As in the two characters from Street Fighter? Yeah, this story is basically a bunch of ninja incarnations, by the way. Anyways, Ken was murdered in a duel, but before the duel, Ken sent Ryu a letter saying he should meet an archaeologist known as Walter. When Ryu finds Walter, he is told about two items that are connected to the end of the world coming up in the future. Ryu meets these characters that will either try to send him to his fate, or helping him on his quest, which is trying to avenge his father and also keeping the items from the organization of villains. I haven't exactly told the story very well, but the cutscenes will explain a lot to you. It is fun to experience the cool cutscenes the game presents to you. After the first cutscene, you'll already be put in suspense trying to figure out what happens next and keeping yourself from looking up an internet guide or asking a friend who knew all the tricks to the trade to spoil it if you can't beat a certain level. I'm interested that they could do this in 1989, and the story is top notch, so I'm rating the story line an 8/10.

Okay, I know what you're thinking. You're all like, "omfg, too hi rating 4 nes gme, use flames to burn." Well, hear me out for the probably 75% of you that have never played anything of Ninja Gaiden. This game may only have seven levels, but they're a pretty good length, so it feels like you're playing Super Mario Brothers twice in one session, if you know what I mean. This game also has a lot of unique weapons. First of all, you have your sword, which isn't effective in most situations, and it has pretty short range, but I THINK you can get a sword upgrade from an item container, but at the same time I think that's only in Ninja Gaiden III. The weapons you can get in this game come from hitting an item container with your sword (They look different in each level, but it'll be obvious of what the item container is). When you do that, an item will come out. These items can only be used if you're climbing a wall, and you do a LOT of that in all three games. You can get stuff like Ninja stars, flames, discs, flame shields, all of that. They all do have limited use though. you have ammunition in this game. But if you use it once, a certain amount will be used like four or eight. It's kinda stupid, yes, but these items can be used in a lot of situations, especially in Ninja Gaiden III. It would be even better if you could also use them on the ground, but alas. And about climbing, which needs to be executed a lot, especially in level two, this technique is used for a lot of platforming, and you have to be really precise. To grasp onto a wall, you simply just jump on to it. Sometimes, when you're on a wall, you can't do much defending yourself. I like to think of it as the stairs in the Castlevania NES trilogy. And let me mention that this series has the mos annoying enemies. The bosses are relentlessly easy, but the enemies concern me. And sometimes when you're climbing, you get knocked into a bottomless pit. There's knockback EVERYWHERE! THIS IS CASTLEVANIA (Hmph, at least this game has no Pitfalls). By the way, this series is pretty difficult. More on that later. Anyways, I'd say this game offers a lot in depth. In one level, up to four enemies can be introduced to you, so there's a big library of enemies in this game, in case you couldn't tell.  There's about 20-30 in this game. All of them are unique, but some of them just run around doing nothing. To the depth side, since this game has actual cutscenes that are, not to mention, clear, this game won't require a manual to understand what's going on, assuming, you still have the manual, or you play NES games on an emulator. I'm starting to wish Contra had cutscenes, even though it's a 1986 port. Without cutscenes, Ninja Gaiden wouldn't be Ninja Gaiden. It would be one of those NES games, and there's a lot of them, where you think you're going around killing random bosses and people for no apparent reason, but then you buy the game on eBay, check out the manual, and you say, " omg, didnt no dat. so coolio". Ninja Gaiden not only makes for a clear story with interesting cutscenes, but also has a lot of depth to offer for a standard NES game. Overall, this game offers a lot of depth to it.
Difficulty: 8/10
Okay, I'm sure everyone who has played this game knows that this series is known for its difficulty. It's not the level design, but the annoying enemies, much less enemy placement. Sometimes, you're given enough room to breathe and to strike enemies with ease. The second half of level two pulls no punches. In the beginning, it's not so bad. You have cleaver-wielding guys that swing their cleavers SO slowly, and they have short range and slow speed, and Elvis impersonators that have guns. But in level two, you got enemies guarding the ledge. Sometimes, they just stand idol and don't move. You have to time your jumps and sword swings, or you fall to your death or run out of health. Yeah, this game has a health meter. The amount of damage Ryu takes depends on the enemy itself. Bosses take away a few degrees of health, and boxers only take away one. The health meter certainly makes the game a lot more forgiving. If there was no health meter, it would be Gradius and Contra all over again. Okay, speaking of the health meter, in that scene from The Wizard, why does the girl say that Jimmy hasn't taken a hit yet, when he was playing Ninja Gaiden on an arcade machine, when he's clearly missing three degrees of his life meter? She must have no idea what's going on in the game. Jimmy was even in level one, so he took three hits, but I'm getting a little off topic here...when a sequel is released, the game seems to achieve more difficulty. Ninja Gaiden II got a little more annoying, barely beat it, and I never came close to beating Ninja Gaiden III. The sequels seem to have more annoying obstacles than their predecessor. That doesn't mean Ninja Gaiden I is easy though. Ninja Gaiden is a REALLY tough game, and I could never pass level two until, I was eleven years old. It took me three years to finally beat the game, starting from when I was eight. Yeah, that's right. If all the enemies in the game were deleted, it would be kind of sad if you died once during a play-through. Enemies are your main obstacle, getting past them will require quick thinking or incredible luck. This is why Game Genie was invented, people. This is definitely a game where you'll go through moments where you have a really close call. And when I played this game, I never knew Game Genie EXISTED. So that made things a little harder for myself. Your eyes do not deceive you, when I finally beat the game, I died 376 times. I have gotten better by only 150 deaths, but still, so since a Game Over requires three deaths, then that's about 70 Game Overs. The game was VERY frustrating. But honestly, don't be surprised if you find yourself cheating or just getting frustrated. This game is pretty brutal, and did I mention the enemy placement? Did I? Well that's a BIG flaw in the three games. The enemy placement. Enemies guarding ledges, enemies guarding walls, enemies re-spawning out of nowhere or surprise attacking you, it's like Castlevania or Mega Man. I know people who have done a no- death run while speed-running the game, and I'm questioning the amount of practice they've done to achieve that feat. Well, I think you get that Ninja Gaiden is a hard game, but is it still good? Yes. Difficult? Yes, but something tells me if you sample the game, you'll somewhat actually like the difficulty of this game. I know this sounds ridiculous, but the difficulty plays a role in this game's replay-ability, because of overall, fun obstacles in the game, and being on the edge of your seat for the cutscenes.

Graphics and sound don't matter in a video game, but BOY does this game have good graphics. They improved the graphics in the SNES port and in the Ninja Gaiden sequels, but let alone Ninja Gaiden I has impressive. Some of the enemy sprites aren't very distinguishable, but the sprites during the cutscenes are great, especially for Ryu, I love the settings in both cutscenes and levels, and this game just seems to have a lot to offer when it comes to good graphics. How do I even describe them? Yes, it sounds like I'm describing Super Metroid, but for an NES game, this game looks beautiful. Which, now that I think about it, doesn't say THAT much, because this is a later NES port, 1989 to be exact, but let alone, this game has good graphics, and you'll find that the graphics are actually something that will encourage you to keep playing. For an example, I've never felt that way with the Atari 2600, but maybe that's because those game are just horrible. Ninja Gaiden's graphics is like this. Picture yourself this boy/girl in the 80's wanting to pick up a copy of the game. "Dad/Mom, can I buy this game?" "Hm. The box looks like it's a graphic game, put it back." Oh, it's GRAPHIC all right. The GRAPHIC(s) in this game are truly amazing. Thank you, parents in 80's. Ninja Gaiden, in my book has 8/10 graphics. You're probably thinking I'm just gushing over generic 8-bit graphics, but the atmospheres of this game, you have NOT seen yet.
Sound: 7/10
Musically speaking, I do actually enjoy some of these pieces. I like the sound effects, but let's talk about the soundtrack. I am impressed. Every level and cutscene has a catchy tune, and the themes in levels keep you pumped up for the challenges ahead. I do like how this game has an actual variate, unlike most NES ports. The soundtrack makes me enjoy the game even more, and I can't say much about the sound, but it is great, none of the less. The music makes you think, this is some intensity. And I do agree this game is intense. It doesn't help that this game is difficult, but the music is pretty cool. Sounds like I'm running a marathon! But, in seriousness, this game's music and sound effects are interesting. It's like a Konami game almost, but better. The developers must have though it out well, and I'm glad they did. This isn't my favorite soundtrack in the series though, the sequel to this game wins that award, but when it comes to this game, this soundtrack is one of my favorite game soundtracks.
Replay-ability: 8/10
Despite this game having a large degree of challenge to it, it doesn't mean this game is actually a bad game. The challenge adds a bit of fun to the adventure, and the level design and the fact that you're bashing baddies makes the game really fun to me. I wish this game was two players, of which the two play simultaneously. Not only would the game be less difficult, but it would also make the game more addicting. The idea of the game makes this game addicting, and it's a bonus that there's cutscenes to make the game more addicting. The game would still be addicting without them, but these cutscenes are amazing. They definitely make the game shine out. Graphics and sound don't matter, but I honestly think that they add to this game's addicting factor, or whatever you want to call it. This is usually something that occurs in video games mostly Retro games to be frank, and this is one of them. But I will agree that what makes this game mostly addicting has got to be playing through the levels. I just might play this game when this review is done, in fact. (I hope you do too) I think this is the biggest reason of why I like this game so much, and I will never stop playing this game! It is too addicting to put down. Whatever made me think this game wasn't addicting back then is just behind me right now. It's probably the difficulty, but now I have learned the difficulty plays a role in what makes this game fun, overall. It's not the platforming, but killing enemies and dodging them to continue your quest.
Overall: 8.5/10
Overall, I'm rating this game an 8.5/10. It has a few flaws, but this game is very addicting, has great sound and graphics, this game looks beautiful, there's CUTSCENES, and the difficulty and level design make the game worth playing. I can definitely classify this as a great game. One of my favorite NES, much less video games. I didn't just play this game. I experienced it, and that's because of the game's visuals, and it just stands out to me. That's probably because I'm into games like Contra though. Should I recommend this to a casual player? Yeah, no way. I recommend this to those who strive for challenge, and that's what this game will give. I should have probably said this earlier, but maybe I made it obvious.  I highly recommend you try out the series, and I will be reviewing the next two games in the series as well, and I will need to practice for them to learn the story again and see what the other two games are like, but I do remember the sequels being as good as Ninja Gaiden I. If you're new to the series, start with this one though. It's less difficult than Ninja Gaiden II, but I think Ninja Gaiden II is better, but I'll let you decide on that one. This has been Ninja Gaiden for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Ninja Gaiden, probably THE single hardest game to ever be produced by Tecmo                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  
Lets start out with the God awful graphics.
This Picture ^ says it all, there is almost no way to tell which platforms are really there, most of them you fall straight through. Yeah good job Tecmo, ever think to fix that? No probably not, they didn't even take the time to make half of their shadows right, jeez if you're going to put shadows in the game, why make them look pathetic? Great job.
Addictiveness? The only reason I want to keep playing it is to come up with reasons to hate it! This game is so difficult, of course you're going to play it again, its super hard, and an actual challenge. Compared to any other NES games, this one is Mama Monster Mecha Death! Yes, if you have the misfortune to play this reckless ridiculousness, yeah you'll play it again, hopefully you can beat the first level.
Well they did something good the story, a well thought out, brilliant story. Also may I note, that this is the first game ever to have any cut scenes? Awesome! For once, a good story from the nes, and its not only of great quality, but it is fairly long as well.
Oh yeah, this game offers a whole lot to do, you know what, here I'll list the activities of Ninja Gaiden. No, I'll 1 up that, I'll make a to do list for the whole game!

This game takes a very long time to beat, because there are no continues... that's right NO CONTINUES! That's one of the main reasons why this game is such a load of doody!
Difficulty.... Now you've done it Gaiden. Here comes the boom buddy, I'll tell you about difficulty HAHA yes I will. There is almost no way to beat the game with no continues. You have to start from square 1 every time you fall off of a cliff, or miss a ledge? Oh yeah thank the poor graphics. Don't even think about forgetting the knock-back feature. Oh yes, every time our little ninja takes a hit, he goes flying backwards, or what ever way a hole or cliff is located, just so you lose!!! And the worst part is that it is nearly impossible to avoid being hit because there are always things flying all over the map!
The controls are fairly easy, however irritating, especially since they don't give you any tutorial or anything about the controls, they don't teach you how to double jump, jump from wall to wall, or climb ladders, the game is hard okay? IT IS HARD!

 I assume that video wasn't taken in time trial mode? Otherwise, you would have submitted a tile here of 24 min 10s. I thought I saw a save state used on your video on level 5-2. Am I wrong on that?

 Then when I restarted the room, the hammerbro person kept knocking me in the hole until I got a game over. He's tough to get past without a powerup.

 rcarter: I got to stage 2-2 I believe it was. At the end of the first room there's that ladder you have to climb down to get to next room. Apparently you HAVE to use the ladder! I did not know that.

 It is possible to fight the lag but that’s too mentally demanding especially when you’re finishing up your degree and have a girlfriend like mine o_O. Too bad, I was really excited about this one until I remembered my lag issues.

 I wish I could but the lag I get is pretty unpredictable with NES video recording. It's not a big deal for games like Donkey Kong 3 but for platformers like Mega Man and now Ninja Gaiden it’s extremely difficult to judge every jump.
