Boom Shaka Laka   Chubby5544
NBA Jam tournament edition really brings the saying "Boom Shaka Laka" to life. With so much improvements it leads to this game to be one of the best arcade games to go to the home console. (Especially the Super Nintendo)
First lets talk about the graphics. I gave this  game a 9 in this category because of the brightened and more accurate colors of the Team's Logos, Team uniforms, and arenas. Sadly some of the jersey colors like the Chicago Bulls red still seem to light or too dark. However the addition of posters around the arena add to the realism to this title. So with these improvement this games graphics rank up at the top for this systems game line up.
Next lets talk about the addictiveness. With the Head to Head, Team Game, and Tournament game modes already there is so much to do but then when you add the secret players and secret teams to unlock that means their even more ways to play the game. But with only 28 teams it won't  take 20+ hours to beat which is why I gave the addictiveness of this game a 7.
Thirdly lets talk about the story. Yes I know a basketball game having a story line really doesn't make scene does it. But NBA Jam Tournament Edition really pulls it off. The Tournament mode is basically a short story with a Super ending. I mean an ending where you face secret or super foes that make it challenging to beat the game really makes a story complete. That's why I gave the story mode a 5 out of 10

Fourthly lets talk about the depth of the game. With its long tournament mode were you must play against and beat 40+ teams just to unlock about 60 new players its going to take some time. Compared to other sports games on this system like Tecmo Super Bowl with its 3 Seasons mode this game will definitely  take a while (about 10+ hours or longer) it definitely has a lot of depth.
Finally lets talk about the difficulty. Even on easy difficulty you will most likely not be able to  beat a team one hundred to nothing. Now with the difficulty setting in the option menu you can change how are the game will be. However even with this in mind the teams you play against in any of the game modes will just keep getting harder and harder as they try and finely end your winning streak. Yet this increase in difficulty will happen in a slow and steady fashion giving this game a difficulty of 5 to 7.
With its many improvements and advancements in the sports genre NBA JAM Tournament Edition deserves to belong in your Super Nintendo game collection with an overall rating of 9.5 out of 10,

NBA Jam: TE Review   acam

                NBA Jam: TE Review

It has been a long time since I have done a review, but I will try my best.

First thing’s first: a little bit of background. NBA Jam: Tournament Edition came out in 1995 as an update/sequel to the arcade smash (and a game of which I have already reviewed in its GB form), NBA Jam. Now on to the actual review…

The graphics score a 9 due to its impressive array of tweaks and improvements from NBA Jam. For example, the home team’s (player 1’s team) uniforms are now primarily white, regardless of the team’s colors. The courts are revamped, too. They now display the team’s colors, and have the NBA Jam: TE logo at center court (as opposed to NBA Jam’s generic court).  Lastly, considering the limitations of the SNES, the players and courts look great.

The sound gets an 8 because… well, everything sounds okay. The ball bouncing is the most common sound that you will hear. Thankfully, the other sounds are there as well. The scoring and dunk sounds are both there, obviously carried over from the previous game. My biggest gripe in this area is the reused quips from the unknown announcer (some guy that did play-by-play for the Bulls back then, as I have learned), which I still find tacky and boring.

The depth gets a 7 due to a slightly increased amount of it. New features include a “Special Features” menu which provides access to some interesting amenities such as Tournament Mode, Hot spots, etc. Also included is a practice mode, to hone one’s skill. You can enter you name to save your record as usual. For the above reasons, addictiveness gets a 10.

I end this review with a recommendation to the reader to play this game, not only for the reasons elaborated on above, but because it is one of (in my opinion) the best SNES games out there.

HE'S ON FIRE!   Harley3651
Nba Jam Tournament Edition was released to home consoles back in 1994 just one year after the original NBA Jam. It was both published and developed by Midway Games for both the arcades and home markets.
Tournament Edition brings more player attributes and more player substitutions. New for Tournament Edition is, well, Tournament Mode. Tournament Mode is a feature that, when turned off, turns off computer assistance and on-court hot spots that allowed for bonus points or special slam dunks.
Graphics 6: The graphics don't really hold up that well today due to the game using digitized sprites. Oh don't get me wrong the players are easy to distinguish but due to them all being digitized it looks really dated today.
Sound 5: Sound is really hit or miss. The sound effects themselves from the ball hitting the court to the grunts the players make when being pushed down all sound great. The missed part of the games sound come from the music. The game does have music but only in the menus, options, and team match ups. There is no music being played at all in game during play.
Addictive 10: The game, despite it being over 20 years old, is still a lot of fun to play. I had a real tough time putting the game down to write my review. I highly recommend it.
Story 0: What story? Its an arcade-style basketball game. pick your favorite from a list of 20+ and have fun.
Depth 3: Its not real in depth. The game is real easy to pick up and play. The controls are real easy and simple to use.
Difficulty 5: The games difficulty is in the middle. Not to hard, but not to easy either. I'm not really into sports or sport based video games and even I found the game easy enough to get into.
Rating 5.8: I rated the game 5.8 Its not to hard or easy. But the lack of music during gameplay and the digitized sprites really bring down what is otherwise a fun and enjoyable game.

To get an extended roster without beating all of the teams, go to the title screen and press START, Y, UP, DOWN, B, LEFT, A, RIGHT, DOWN, START. When it asks you to enter your initials, select YES and enter the initials "JAM".
