Mortal Kombat?   THErealFRED
Ok so after going and powdering up Super Metroid I kind of well you know decided to switch it up and go and review a ok game to say the least so if you are wondering about what game I am reviewing it is I think its a Mario game oh wait it is Mortal Combat oh sorry its Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance for the Gameboy Advance I have no idea why they put a K in the title and not a C. So without anymore waiting lets get started.
Ok for the first thing that I will be Talking about is the Graphics, well they SUCK ok I know that this is a Gameboy Advance game but I don't care games like A Link to the past looked so much better then this game and I know that this game is a real 3D game and I really cant think of any 3D Gameboy Advance game that I have played but hey it really doesn't look that good and I really don't like how the blood looks just a bunch of square red blocks that got smashed down by a Gameboy Advance....... that's one heavy gameboy Advance, but that its not that pretty oh and if you go to the Krypt and find the "Goth Jax" its just a darker version of him, and because of that and some other graphical stuff like half of the characters models bodies being gone and for all of that I give it only a 4 out of 10 .
Next up is the Sound well I sounds ok its not that bad but hearing HAA and HUUUU all the time really does get just a little bit on my nerves but hey it fits and I will admit that it does sound really realistic for a Gameboy Advance game but it stills does get annoying hearing the same sounds over and over, and then I do some more of this review and over and over AGAIN, oh and one other thing you know how in the original Mortal Kombat trilogy when ever you hit some one like OH I don't know in the finger nail they spew out as much blood as if they were a hemophiliac but anyways you know how when the blood hits the ground there is a SpLaT sound well its not in this game which is weird because well it was in the other games, and I give it another 4 out if 10.
And next is the Addictiveness well the game is not the type of game that I find myself coming back to play this game heck I only played through this game about maybe 7 times but well that's not really that much because of the fact the game is REALLY short and of until really recently I had not played the game through and through ever sense I was about 11 and I'm 15 now so well its been a while so yea this is not a game that I say is a game that I will come back to anytime soon, BUT there is a redeeming factor in this game the Krypt and well it has things you can unlock but well most of them are nothing more then a different skin color for the characters you can play as or characters that you can play as but well its not really that important or fun because they are so EXPENSISE as monkeys but if you get them all you get a surprise guess what it is if you guessed nothing then you are so right. Oh and I give this part a 5 out of 10.
And now its time for the thing that makes a game good a story well....... it really has no story to talk about I can not remember what the story was about but it had something to do with shoa chon I think I spelled it wrong but hey its my review so what ever dude, so well yea hes back and has trying to take over earthrelam once again and its up to you and everyone else from MK 1-3 to stop him for the last time....... until MK8 that is great game you should get it. Oh yea back to this game well that's all I know and for that it gets a HUGE 2 out of 10 about average on my finals in school. Wow this is my shortest paragraph ever.
Now the Depth this game is about as deep as eating a month old gallon of milk it smells bad looks bad and when you reach into it all you found is a bunch of white chunky smelly stuff that someone could make a perverted joke out of, but yea it seems deep but its not theirs no story to give any lore on theirs no back story to the characters and there is no text, dialogue, or cut scenes to give you any reason to go back and look deep into it and yea there is scrolling text in the start of all the Star Wars or how ever you would say multiple wars but yea it was in the star of all the movies/games rocked (Well most of them that is) but yea three's no story to give any depth no characters ever say anything but screams and battle cries and the Fatalities are bout as fun to pull of as it would be to do in real life with your arms tied to your nose its not really interesting NOTHING is interesting in this game oh and three's no training mode and the game can be beat in less than an hour. AND SO FOR ALL OF THAT I GIVE IT A 2 out of 10.
Now Difficulty this game with the exception of the last to fighters is as hard as fighting a banana the first couple fighters wont even attack you the first one wont even move you can get at least four double flawless victories before you get hit at first I thought I was good at this game bur I was well really just fighting a stupid AI but yea this game is not really that high up on the HARDEST GAMES EVER heck this game makes games like Dark Souls and Demon Souls look like getting shot in the knee start crying pee yourself while you wear white pants and have your high school crush watch as it all happens, oh wait those games are that hard NEVERMIND but yea this game is REALLY REALLY RRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYY easy. And for that it only gets a 1 out of 10.
OK lets look back in the past the graphics suck the story sucks its really easy and really boring there is not that much to do in this game and its not as good as its other versions, well that sounds likes every handheld game EVER but yea this really is not a good game to get unless you like handheld game and so to not make this review go on any longer I will give the final score of this game it is a really good score of 4.8 out of 10 . And well that is all folks if you like handhold's pick up Mortal Komat Deadly Alliance if not then get the gamecube version so you'll know the drill rate and comment.

the Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance review   mgharper94
I've played this and this is no doubt one of the best Mortal Kombat games I've played on the GBA system. The graphics are made of sprites for fighters and backgrounds due to hardware limitations but it is a powerful handheld to hold up such a fighting game. the sound is pretty good even scorpion still has his trademark saying, "GET OVER HERE!". The addictiveness of the game is okay, it doesn't really have other modes to play for single player. I don't think that there was a story to the game, except you have to fight your way to either Quan-shi and Shang Tsung. the depth of it though does have some nice features such as costumes, the krypt, and a test your site/might game that may be interesting. the difficulty is like any other fighting game, it gets easy but it gets harder when you go up. In conclusion, you would enjoy this game and in my opinion if I had the actual game, this would definitely be one of the games I'd bring with me for my GBA.

MKDA Review: FailTality   Maki4Ever
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance for the Game boy Advance
Let's see how this goes:
So for the basic plot of the story, Quan Chi is trapped in the Netherrealm, after revealing himself to be the killer of Scorpion's family and his clan, the Shirai Ryu. He escapes by stealing Shinnok's amulet, and teams up with Shang Tsung to revive the "Dragon King" and his army, and Raiden, the Thunder God, has to stop them. However, he must sacrifice his Elder God status to do so and help the others. This game introduces a lot of new characters, alongside previous favorites like Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero (now unmasked for the 2nd time, although his alternate costume contains a mask), and the aformentioned Raiden.
Unfortunately, not all the characters in the console versions are present in the Game Boy version :(
The character roster stands at the ff:
Shang Tsung , the sorcerer who wants to RULE THE WORLD
Quan Chi, the ruler of the underworld aka the Netherrealm
Scorpion, the spectre hellbent on revenge
Raiden, the God of Thunder (Sorry Thor)
Jax, the Special Forces agent with all the muscles
Sub-Zero, the Lin Kuei Grandmaster who's picking new students
Kitana, the princess of Edenia
Kung Lao, the Shaolin monk wanting to avenge the death of his friend
Frost, Sub-Zero's apprentice, and a very arrogant individual
Sonya, the leader of the Special Forces
Kano, the Black Dragon leader
Li Mei, the one of few good people of Outworld
Kenshi, the blind swordsman
All the other characters present in the console versions (except Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, and Scorpion), along with Sektor, Sareena, and Noob, are in Tournament Edition, basically a new version of the same game
The graphics are basically GBA-level graphics. The pixelated characters are not creatively designed, and the backgrounds do not move at all.
The sound is basically just rehashed samples from the console version. You can clearly hear the same sounds from the console version when the fighters are getting hit. It's just basically one set of sounds for men, and another set for the women.
In terms of gameplay, it's actually good. The hit detection is spot on, all the special moves and fighting styles are there, there is blood present. and the Fatalities are present, abelit watered-down versions of it. Like I said, not much variety is is this game apart from being a hand-held port.
There are still some issues with the gameplay. First, the AI is inconsistent, especially in survival mode. The throw mechanics are off, so off that i kept pressing A and S on my keyboard at the same time (these represent the A and B buttons on the GBA for all the vizzed noobs) and it sitll does not work. Finally, some animations are a bit sloppy, especially when the fighters jump.
In terms of depth, it's one again lacking in features, apart from the Survival mode and the Krypt (which has a full supply of alternate costumes)
To sum this all up, I would give it a 6.4/10.
I can say that this game is a complete disappointment for all Mortal Kombat fans, even for a Game Boy Advance Game

Violence on the GBA: Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance   XmanP321
MORTAL KOMBAT: DEADLY ALLIANCE
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was released in North America on the Playstation 2 November 16th, 2002, on Gamecube November 17th, 2002, and on Xbox November 18th, 2002. The game was praised for it's move into a full 3-D world, with free movement, and a new focus on hand to hand combat, or as MK calls it, Kombat.
However, the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox were not the only systems getting a version of the 5th main Mortal Kombat game, as it had been also announced that Nintendo's latest handheld, the Game Boy Advance, would be getting their own port of the game, allowing people to "Finish Him" on the go.
Sure enough, just 2 days after the Xbox release, November 20th, 2002, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance showed up on store shelves for the Game Boy Advance, and it was plenty different from the console versions...
Story - 6
The basic story is the same as the console, but the GBA port won't give you all the info, forcing you to rely on Character Bios (shown by highlighting a character on the select screen and pressing select) to get any story, however, I will be telling you the games story, as shown from the console game's introduction.
After being sent to the Neatherrealm by the ninja specter Scorpion, the sorcerer Quan Chi escapes the realm into Earth realm, where he meets another sorcerer, Shang Tsung, a man who consumes the souls of others, allowing him eternal life. Quan Chi and Shang Tsung team up, and so, the Deadly Alliance is formed.
The two sorcerers decide to kill the only the only two men that could stop them from resurrecting the Dragon King's undefeatable army, the Emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn, and champion on Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang. First, the duo go after Kahn. In a false show of loyalty, they killed the emperor.
Next, they went after Liu Kang, who could not cope with the power of the two, and had his soul stolen by Shang Tsung. The Thunder God, Raiden, knowing that the Deadly Alliance could destroy the world, has recruited Earth realm warriors to stop this new threat. They must stop, this Deadly Alliance.
Graphics - 7
The graphics of MK: DA aren't all that great, but they work well for the system, and you can clearly tell what is what. The characters are all sprites, and they work well with the 3-D world.
The menus do their best to recreate the ones from the console game, and they do a good job. There isn't much to talk about in the graphics section of things, it's pretty average.
Sound - 7
The sound of the GBA port of MK: DA does well with what the game has to work with, nothing sounds out of place, and everything sounds right.
Very little goes wrong with the sound, but nothing ground breaking happens with it too, so it gets a nice average 7.
Addictiveness - 8
Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance has a good amount of replay value, not only is the game just fun, but the kyrpt, while smaller than the console games, has another stuff that you want to try and buy everything in it. Even after you have everything, the GBA game has a "survival" mode, where you fight an endless gauntlet of fighters, only gaining a little health in between fights, until you lose.
This game is a fun ride, and while it ends at some point, it will keep you hooked for a while.
Depth - 7
This game's shop, known as the kyrpt, has much unlockable stuff to buy, including two new characters.
Most of the game's depth comes from the gameplay, each character has two fighting styles, which they can switch at will for new moves to use. Each character also has a few special moves, that can turn the tide when used at the right time.
Finally, each character has one finishing move, that can be performed at the end of a match, where the game tells you to "Finish Him/Her!", and you must do a button combo to perform a finishing move, known as a "Fatality"
Difficulty - 3
Low difficulty is NOT a bad thing, it's a good thing. The controls work great on the GBA, and any hard thing doesn't feel cheap, it feels like you messed up.
All in all, this game is very easy to get into.
OVERALL - 8
This game, while not as good as the console ones, is very good, becoming even popular enough to get a GBA only sequel, called Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition, which was released on August 25th, 2003.
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for the GBA is a great game, and if you fell the need to cause some carnage on the go, MK: DA for the GBA is the game for you!

@SuperCrash64 don't know why, the GBA was a powerful handheld system back then so, I just think that they could have done better.
SuperCrash64 08-02-13 - 02:17 PM
@mgharper, That's because of how butchered the game was, 1) the ai was just badly broken, 2) the controls didn't work very well.
mgharper94 07-27-13 - 04:49 PM
@mrkoolnerd we do indeed have MK advance, you can search it under gba systems and type in mortal kombat. though the game is not really a recommended game to play for a mortal kombat gba game.
