The Misadventures of Tron Bonne Review by: tornadocam - 9/10

A Lost Game (Misadventures of Tron Bonne)
Today, I am going to be reviewing, what I call a lost game. The Misadventures of Tron Bonne was a game that was good, but yet it is often forgotten about. So, today I'm going to review and critique this forgotten game.

Story: 9
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, had a very good plot to it. The story starts off like this. Teisel (the family leader), is going to explore an ancient ruin to look for treasure. He also takes along the youngest family member Bon. However, before the Bonnes can enter the ancient ruin they are ambushed by Glyde. Glyde states his business and why he captured them. Glyde, says that because they owe Mr. Loath a lot of money, and  have not paid he was ordered to capture them. Mr. Loath uses Glyde to capture people who owe him debt, as Loath is a shrewd business man. Glyde takes the Bonnes to Mr. Loath. Loath puts the Bonnes to doing hard labor like digging for treasure, except all the treasure goes to Loath. Tron, who was on the family's massive airship discovers that her brothers have been kidnapped. She reads a note and also discovers why her brothers were targeted. Teisel, borrowed over 1 million dollars from Loath to build the massive airship. Tron sets out on an adventure to get the money even if it means pirating.

I really liked the plot. I thought the story introduced the characters very well. I also thought it was great how Capcom told the players, who the bad guys were. Introducing, the characters the way they did showed creativity. I like plots that have a creative feel to them. Moreover, it really seemed like Capcom spent a lot of time developing this story. Thus, I give the story to this game a very good rating of 9 out of 10.

Graphics & Controls : 8
The graphics of this game were overall good. A lot of the missions had very good backgrounds as well as color to them. The mine stage looks like an underground mine. In the fishing stages, the water looks like actual water. I really liked how all the colors and backgrounds come together in this game. Also the weapons had very good graphics to them. The sprints, in this game were also awesome. The towns people look like actual people. The weapons actually look like real weapons, when they are fired. However, there was a few issues with the graphics. There were times were I thought the graphics had static lines in them. It, was very minor but I did see it a few times. I do not know if that was due to my emulator I downloaded to play this game with or what? On the other hand, there was static lines in Mega Man Legends, and I had the original game. So, maybe the earlier play station games had a little bit of static lines in them. Still, the static lines were very minor, and the graphics are for the most part very well done.

The controls in this game were very good as well. Tron has very good controls. Even, when she is piloting a machine; her controls do not change. I thought that was nice, because when the player has to use a machine I was expecting stiffer controls. However, some of the Serve Bots feel a little sluggish especially at the end. But, the sluggishness is not too bad. In fact, it is barely noticeable. In summary, the graphics and controls were very good despite a few minor issues. I give the graphics and controls a good rating of 8 out of 10.

Sound: 9
What can I say, the sound in this game was awesome. A lot of the missions have very good themes. The fishing mission has very relaxing music. The mine mission has low pitched music to fit the stages gloomy atmosphere. Also the sounds the weapons make are nicely done. The bazooka weapon sounds very powerful and the drill weapon sounds like an actual drill. In addition, the voices were nicely done too. It seems like Capcom used different voice actors than they did in Mega Man 8, thank goodness. Loath, sounds like a crooked politician. Glyde, sounds like an arrogant person, which fits his character nicely. Teisel sounds like a drill sergeant when he is giving orders, again fitting his personality. Even, the towns people sound like people, you would hear on the street. There was only one minor thing that I noticed concerning the sound in this game. In the mine stage it sounded like there was a tingle in the theme. Moreover, it also sounded like there was a tingle in the final battle as well. Still, at the end of the day the sound in this game was nicely done. I give the sound a good solid rating of 9 out of 10.

Addictiveness & Depth: 9
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, is a fun game to play. It is often overlooked compared to other games (more on that later). I like to play this game because it is part of the Mega Man series. But, even though it is part of the Mega Man series, it is something different. I think this game is unique in its on way. For me personally, that is what makes it a good game to play over and over again.

The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, has quite a bit of depth to it. There is money to collect, which is nice. Hey, in this economy  you need to save all you can (little humor there). In addition, there are power ups to get, as well as several missions to complete. In addition, the Serve Bots can be powered up by side games. If you are mad at the Serve Bots you can even put them through the torture chamber to get them back on track. Moreover, the game is very long and takes a while to complete. So yeah, there is a lot going on in this game. Thus, I give the game's replay value and depth a good 9 out of 10 rating.

Difficulty: 8
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne can be a difficult game. This game is difficult in many ways. First of all, if you fail to get items in a mission then you cannot go back and get them. Second, if you do not use the money that you earn wisely then you could be out of luck. Third, some of the bosses and enemies in this stage can be tricky. The mine gave me some trouble. The mine has lots of traps and powerful enemies in it. So it is easy to get hit. In addition, some of the missions have a timer on them. If the player fails to beat the clock then you fail that mission. Also, there are no lives in this game if you lose all your health it is game over. Finally, the last boss in this game is very difficult to beat. It requires skills and creativity to defeat. In fact, this game requires a lot of skill and creativity to master; especially when it comes to solving the puzzles needed to complete the missions.

Now, sometimes the game does help you out in completing missions. You can use the money to buy energy drinks in this game. The energy drinks work like energy tanks do in the classical and X Mega Man games. Also the money you earn can be used to buy tougher armor and more powerful weapons. Having powerful weapons really helps when you have to shoot a lot of enemies at once. It, also helps if you have to tackle a larger enemy. So since the game helps you out in those sense it keeps the rating from being a 9 or a 10. Still, this is a hard game that will test your skills and creativity. Thus, I give the difficulty rating a good 8 out of 10.

Overall: 9
Earlier in my review I called this game a lost game. The reason I called it that is simple. A lot of people do not know about this game, which is kind of a shame. I want to think this game came out in 1998 or maybe 1999. The Misadventures of Tron Bonne I think was overshadowed because of a few things. First of all, Capcom tried to sell this as part of the Mega Man series. A lot of players, I feel like did not consider this game, because Mega Man is not in this game despite that it is part of the series. Second, Capcom was in a way, I feel like competing with itself. In 1998 Capcom released several Mega Man titles all at once. Mega Man 8, Mega Man X4, Mega Man Legends and this game. What ended up happening was Mega Man X4 became such a huge hit instead of the other games. So, lot of video game players bought Mega Man X4 and did not bother to take a look at the other games. Third, in the Legends time line this game took place a year before Legends did. The Bonnes had not met Mega Man Trigger yet. So if players brought legends they might have been confused to were this game fit in. Therefore, I think these reasons really hurt this game from being a more popular game.

Now, I have played this game and really liked it. I think it is a shame that this game has been forgotten about. This game had the makings of a gem. The graphics, despite a few minor problems, were very good. The sound was great as well as the depth. The difficulty was what I really like to see in a video game. I like video games that test your skill and creativity. Moreover, Capcom really did a good job introducing the characters in this game. I give this game a good rating of 9 out of 10. I think this is a great game and one deserves to be played. As far as recommending this game. By, all means play this game, and you will discover why this should have been a more popular game. Consider, this game lost and found.
