Mega Man Gracefully Done in 16-bit   Crazy Li
Overview:
Before learning of Wily Wars, I had played all the original NES Mega Man games to differing degrees. My favorites were the first few, especially 2 and 3. However, as much as I liked the series, I primarily grew up on the Genesis, spending countless hours on Sonic. Perhaps I'm a bit biased towards the console. How amazed I was to find a Genesis adaptation to the great Mega Man series. It seemed like something right up my alley. With this game, you get all of the greatness of the original three Mega Man games rolled into one package with a couple of extras.
Graphics:
I always felt the original MM graphics were pretty darn good for a NES game. The designs were creative enough while still being clear and distinct in sprite form. The Genesis remake of these games obviously up-scales and shades the sprites to be nice and 16-bit. It's clearly a graphical improvement over the NES versions, though not on par with the best graphics available for the Genesis that can be found in games specifically made to be 16-bit from the get-go. I don't fault the game for this, since it's more or less an up-scaled port rather than a fresh game for the system. I would have liked more effort in some of the sprites (namely Proto Man), but it was mostly taking the NES sprites and adding shading for the most part. Only Mega Man himself received any real attention.
Sound:
How can you not love Mega Man music? The tunes were so catchy and well-composed that even in 8-bit quality, they're addictive to listen to. Taking advantage of a higher music quality just makes them all the better. The sound effects are decent enough. Some may be slightly off, but for the most part it just sounds like a higher quality version of the original.
Gameplay:
This is what it really comes down to in a platformer. We know Mega Man games play well on the NES, but what about the Genesis. Not all ports are graceful (ever play the GG port?). This one seems to perfectly replicate the physics of the original games. Believe me, I ran tests accessing things like MM's jump height, his rate of ascent/descent, shot speed, etc... both versions really feel the same. Capcom did an excellent job in replicating the engine. Another big plus for this game in my book is that the ratio between Mega Man himself and the rest of the screen is comparable to the NES games. Mega Man 7 for the SNES is another example of MM going 16-bit, but in my mind, it does not make the transition nearly as well. MM's sprite is far too large in that game, making it more difficult to see what's coming and react to it properly. It loses the feel of the original games which I think is something that retains better in Wily Wars.
Story:
Well... Mega Man technically DOES have a story... but very little of it ever gets conveyed in the first three games, so I had to rate this one fairly low.
Content:
Considering this is three whole games in one and there are bonus bosses at the completion of all three, I'd say this game offers a lot to do for a player.
Difficulty:
This game isn't really hard if you've already played and become familiar with the originals. To a newcomer, it can be quite a challenge, though. Being very used to playing Genesis games, I found Wily Wars to be far easier than the NES versions of the games, but I've had people who grew up on the NES tell me the reverse. There is also the notable difference of bosses gaining invincibility (flashing) frames after being hit much like Mega Man himself has. In the NES versions, you could fire three blasts at once into a boss and do more damage. In this game, doing the same will get the subsequent shots ignored. That may take some getting used to if you're a shot-spammer. Still, it includes Mega Man 2, which is probably the easiest game in the entire series, so it can't be THAT hard.
Final Words:
I feel like this was a great compilation and feel it was a great shame it never reached the US outside of the Sega Channel. Perhaps the US market would have given Capcom the extra sales they were seeking to make a sequel to this for 4-6. It feels like something is missing now that the rest of the NES games were never done in this style.

Greatest Genesis game never to come to the west.   Azul Fria
OVERVIEW

Mega Man Wily Wars also known as Rockman Mega World in Japan is a re-release of the first three Mega Man/Rockman games for the Sega Genesis complete with a few changes here and there to take advantage of the superior 16-bit technology of the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. Once you have completed all three games in any order you choose, then you get a bonus game called Wily Tower where you take on three extra bosses and a brand new set of levels. I am covering the Rockman Mega World version of this game as the PAL version is utter puke due to the lower frame rate and god awful soundtrack.
DIFFICULTY/GAMEPLAY - A-

I decided to add difficulty to the Gameplay area for this game because it is important and I knocked down the grade a little bit because of it. Now I bet some of ya'll are wondering why I gave the difficulty a 7. As much as I hate to do so, it is totally justifiable if you are playing this game after you have played the first three games on the NES. First off let's begin with the hit detection. There are a lot of things that you are going to get hit with that you would not have done so in the NES and on the same token, there are some shots you would normally connect with, that will often miss in this game too. Let's take the Quick Man boss fight from Mega Man 2 for example. In the NES version, you could be a step higher than him and still hit him with your normal shots but in Wily Wars, the shots will sail over his head and thus make this fight even tougher if you decided to take on him first. Going against Heat Man's stage also in Mega Man 2 without getting Item-2 (obtained from Airman) is also a bad idea as the Yoku blocks appear out of sync and make this level unplayable near the end of the level when you got to use the Yoku blocks to get past the lava pit and the deep pit that follows.Fortunately, the boss fight is a bit easier to deal with this time around as you can always start the fight by running towards Heat Man and his opening shots will always sell over you for a free hit as opposed to the NES version's difficulty in avoiding the first volley of shots. Remember that is still easier to get hit by his flaming charge even though you jumped over it. The sentiment also applies to the Hari Hari (porcupine) enemies you often see in Needle Man's stage (in Mega Man 3) when they roll.

Another aspect that has been made both easier and harder, depending on where you are in the game, is the threshold of floor contact you have when you land. There are cases where in the NES, you would fail to stick the landing on a platform and fall down the side of it. Here, you can be a few pixels off of where you are trying to land and still stick the landing. Although this sounds easier on paper, it can also harm you as well as you may end up failing to fall down when you want to walk off a ledge and go into the other direction as you fall. That is a killer in Quick Man's stage if you are brazen enough to take on his stage first instead of acquiring the Time Stopper from Flash Man first. The damage values have gone up a little bit in some games as in Mega Man 2 final boss. The alien boss has insane contact damage that takes away 75% of your energy. However, not all changes were made to be harder. Some of the easier changes was to Ice Man's stage in Mega Man 1 where underwater physics were given to the water areas that were not present in the NES version. The Top Spin from Top Man's stage is safer to use now against bosses as well as enemies who are immune to it. The way Top Spin worked was if the enemy did not die in one hit, the enemy was immune to it and you would take damage. However, if you fought a boss who was vulnerable to it, you would always end up trading hits if they still had energy left. On top of that, the use of Top Spin would drain rapidly against immune and vulnerable non 1-hit kill enemies. Now when you use it, it will pass through the enemy sometimes with no damage done to you and you could also harm bosses without trading hits if careful. The Rock Monster from Mega Man 1 has somewhat lower difficulty because the bits move slow but the pattern has changed a bit so call it a neutral change.

GRAPHICS - S

The graphics got a wonderful upgrade. Mega Man, the bosses, all the stage enemies are modernized for its time but the main winning selling point of the graphics category is all of the stages got a major overhaul. A lot of them are excellent but some I am not to fond of like Gemini Man's stage from Mega Man 3 which adds an unnecessary jade to the changing crystal colors, they should have been left alone. The stage I do like the most is Fireman's stage from Mega Man 1 where the background sways back and forth as one would expect if you are inside sweltering heat. The user interface was added in Wily Wars to give a good graphical look at the weapons you currently have in your possession. My only gripe here is the Magnet Beam. It used to come out as one quick firing platform beam to help you get across faster but now it comes out much slower as its all broken up into bits.

CONTROLS - A-

As much as I hate to take off points for this, there is more to controls than just moving around and jumping and shooting. There is also a matter of response too. Let's talk about shooting. In the NES, you could gun down most enemies before they had a chance to react.

Note: This does not apply to Mega Man 1 NES as all enemies had after hit invincibility without the pause trick.

In this game, you can barely get off shots quick enough to defeat some enemies fairly quick like the aforementioned Hari Hari as well as the Hammer Joes. In fact, your shot are slow enough were if you are given a burst of speed, you can keep up with the bullet on the screen. The other aspects are still intact as you have the choice to choose what controls what in this game. A is used for window, B is shot and C is jump. Since I use the PS4 controller to play it on the emulator, I assign Shot to A, Jump to B, and Window to C since its a staple for modern games these days to put shooting button on the left and jumping on the lower center button.
SOUND/MUSIC - A (JP)/C- (PAL)
I love the remixed versions of the Japanese version's music and it is very catchy. The PAL version's music is enough to drive me insane because it sounds totally off key. I know it's because of lower framerate but it still comes up short with me. The Wily Tower music is even catchier. One of the tracks reminds me of a song by the music group, DeBarge.

REPLAYABILITY - S

Three games in one plus an added bonus game is definitely worth playing over and over again because when you get to the Wily Tower, you get to use a lot of experimentation throughout the levels to see what to use and what not to use each time you play as you are given the choice to choose which 8 weapons and 3 assists you want to use.

OVERALL - A+ (JP)/C+ (PAL)

It is a shame that this never got a cartridge release in the States and ended up being relegated to being playable exclusively on the long defunct Sega Channel along with Alien Soldier and Pulseman. Those would have been totally awesome to play in the West. It is possible to import but the PAL version is too slow for my tastes.

MM Wily Wars YouTube   EmeraldHurricane
Me and my bro (R3TR0) have a youtube channel called AngryGamingHQ. I am currently doing a walkthrough of the Wily Wars but I cant do Wily Tower because the emulator rom doesnt actually save in-game besides save and load states. I am  currently playing Mega Man 3 in the walkthrough and I actually think I did quite good in Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 2 unless it's when I raged quite a lot in some of the videos. But anyway, I'm going to stop talking about my channel and go into the details of the actual game.
My overall rating is a 9 out of 10 because the game has a lot to offer although it would be a 10 if you could play the Wily Tower. It is long because you have to play through all the levels of the 1st 3 games in the series, even though I think there should be levels from 4, 5 and 6 because I play through the game at a moderate speed (not too fast because i'm not one of those gamers who beats the game in like a day). Also I think there should be all the stuff from Mega Man 6 in the other games (energy tanks, rush items and adapters, slide, charge buster, item 1, 2, 3, etc.)
The graphics are amazing because they are obviously 16 bit with lots of shades and although Proto Man hasn't really changed much, his sprites are remade so they look kind of like SNES graphics. The animation is better aswell because in the NES games, most characters only had average 3 frames for movement but in this game, they have quite a decent amount! Mega Man's graphics were pretty impressive because at least he has more than 3 frames for movement.
The remixes of the boss themes and level themes are really good, especially in Top Man's stage! The sound effects are also remade with better quality and they sound more realistic. The sound is actually better than other Genesis games aswell but I still don't think it's better than Sonic 1, 2, 3 or any of the other Genesis games in the series.
I think this is the most addicting Genesis game I've played because I enjoy filming walkthroughs and I like the bosses too! Even though some of the Wily bosses and hazards in the levels are annoying, tis is still a really addictive game to play! It's even better than Mega Man 7 but not as good as Mega Man: Powered Up or Maverick Hunter X.
There isn't really much of a story to the game, but according to the description, Dr Wily gets his older robots from the past to the present, and that means the evil Cutman, Gutsman and the other bosses from the original Mega Man games!
This game has a lot to offer including Wily Tower because the graphics and sounds are better and there are new levels in Wily Tower, where you can equip weapons and other things from Mega Man 1, 2 and 3 all at once so you could have Rolling Cutter aswell as the annoying Metal Blades because almost every boss is weak to them. You can also have Rush Coil along with Item-3 or Mega Block aka Platform Arm or Mega Bridge.
It is sometimes hard like Mega Man games always are, but some bosses are harder (definitely Wily Machine 2 aka Wily UFO). At the same time this is also good because it gives players a challenge to beat and once you do it, you can enjoy the rest of the game!
WRAP THINGS UP!
Mega Man - The Wily Wars is an impressive game, even without the Wily Tower and it includes original characters such as Proto Man or Dr Light!

Megaman The Wiley Wars= SMILE   golgo 14
The Blue bomber's first 3 games (which in my opinion are the best of the NES games) were available quite some time ago exclusively on the Sega Channel  in the US and release for the Mega Drive in Japan. I was very exited to play all of them again especially with a new 16-bit coat of paint for the first time here on Vizzed. and I came away feeling warm and fuzzy( though not without a few reservations.).
Megaman games to me are the pinnacle of 8-bit action platforming with expertly developed precision jumps, razor sharp controls and truly the best music NES could hope for and experiencing it all over again feels great..but not perfect:( You see the sprites have been redrawn and Megaman appears to be bigger(though not as big in Megaman 7) making the timing of a lot of the jumps feel a bit off.Since the original level design was designed  to accommodate a smaller character Wiley Wars seems a little claustrophobic (especially on Flash Man's stage). Though not a deal breaker, to me this is noticeable and takes some time to adjust. The soundtrack has been upgraded nicely and every stage has that remarkable catchy melody that never leaves you:) To me Wiley Wars feels like a REALLY GOOD cover band to one of my favorite bands of all time and I walked away from this game with a smile:)Recommended

Megaman 3 in 1   Treyevers
Megaman Wily wars combines Megaman 1, Megaman 2, and Megaman 3 all together and makes them even HARDER. basicly, it is a harder version of the ones before it. If you are a beginner platformer player I would most likely lead you towards this Game. When i mean HARD i mean HARD as in like Cutsman killing you when your at full HP and you get him about half way down with a megabuster! so don't go after cutsman until later.... I hope everyone has fun playing this game, and enjoy it just the same!
==================
Why I Rated What I Did
==================
Difficulty: I rate 10 Because I died within a single minute when i fought Cutman!
Depth: 10 Because it adds 3 games into one!
Story: 10 Because its about Dr.Wily Taking Over Dr.Light's Robots other than Rock, so Rock a.k.a Megaman Sets off to defeat the Robot Masters and stop wily's evil plan.
Addictiveness: ever since megaman 1 came out I loved it, i mean seriously, in a futuristic world of the year 20XX WITH robots!! Instant 10!
Sound: I personally LOVE cutman's theme and all the others, perfect for the game's worlds, 10!
Graphics: 10 Because it puts together 3 games that were all made with tiny sprites, being able to be made in a single minute (done it mysel XP) so thats an instant 10 for classiness and originalness!
Overall: 10 For all the Above
YES, i know i gave straight 10s, trust me the game is TOTALLY worth it!

mega man x 3 = AWSOME   lukexander33
Mega man has been taken to a whole new level with a hard 16 bit game known as mega man the wily wars. This game combines mega man 1 2 and even 3 meaning not just 8 bosses you have to fight 24 bosses and the wily stages! This game would take about a few days if your a speed runner it might take a few hours but there isn't anything different about the 3 mega man games but the 16 bit graphics. I hope you all play this game and enjoy it because it might take you a while to beat it.

I think there should be a disclaimer in the description stating that this version of the game won't save your progress and you can't unlock Wily Tower legitimately.

They fixed the foot holder glitch for this remake...then they doubled up the number of foot holders and the flying penguins spawn a lot faster than before. Ice Man is damn near impossible to dodge now because of shoddy hit detection Good job Sega.
