Take four (Mega Man 4 review)   tornadocam
Mega Man is back for round 4
Story: 9
The story starts off with a nice intro. It starts off by telling us how Mega Man became the fighting robot he is. It goes on to say how Rock was a lab assistant robot to Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. Dr. Wily took the robots and the tried for world denomination. Rock having a sense of justice allowed Light to convert him into Mega Man. Okay that was a very nice intro. If anybody hasn't played Mega Man games the story gives you a background of how the series started. Okay, back to the story. Mega Man shattered Dr. Wily's plans for world domination three times in the past. However a new scientists named Dr. Cossack  has sent 8 new powerful robot masters. Mega Man heads for the battle again. Okay in the manual it says Dr. Cossack sent Dr. Light a letter. Saying he was tired of seeing Dr. Light get credit and wanted the world to know he was a top robot designer and to conquer the world he has invented 8 robots. Capcom was really getting creative in this story. Players who did not know any better would think that Mega Man is going up against a new enemy. Capcom only makes reference to Wily being in telling about his past plans.  However, the only thing is the manual gives away the spoiler. If anybody has played Mega Man games they know that Dr. Wily writes letters like that. So it was kind of obvious to the regulars who play Mega Man Dr. Wily is still around. However, if a player is new to the series and this is their first game the plot is well written they would not be able to pick up on that. So Mega Man 4 has a good plot.

Graphics: 8
The Graphics in Mega Man 4 are good. Ring Man's space background with planets in the back ground is a nice touch. Dive Man's underwater stage is very good and makes the player think they are in an ocean. Pharaoh man's stage is nice as it looks like a desert. Mega Man 4 introduced the ability for Mega Man to charge his buster shot into a powerful blast. Here is were I think the graphics suffered just a little bit. The charged up buster does not look like it would be powerful. It looks like a more powerful stream and it is green. Mega Man 5's buster was powerful and what you would expect for a charged shot. When the player fires a charged shot it kind of looks like the sprints get a little bit out of whack. Also the rush Jet controls were just a little sluggish. Mega Man 3 had the best Rush Jet controls. But they were still good so that was not too big of a deal.   The sprints of the characters are for the most part pretty solid. I also found that the controls in this game were smooth as they did not feel stiff or anything not including the use of the Rush Jet. There was really only one part were the game lagged and it was were I would suspect a lag to occur. The scrolling stage in the Cossack stage seems like it lagged just a little. However, this was an 8 bit game so I would suspect that. Thus, the graphics in this game were pretty solid overall.

Sound: 8
The sound in this game was pretty good. Pharaoh Man's music, Dive Man's music, The Cossack stages and even Dr. Wily's stages (yes did you expect somebody else) have very memorable music. Thus music in this game may not have been like Mega Man's 7, 5, IV, V or 3 but it is still very good music. I like how a lot of the tracks are upbeat. The way the enemies sound are nice too. Some of the enemies attacks explode when they shoot at you or even after you defeated them so that was a nice touch to the series. The only problem with the sound is the buster charging. When charging the buster it seems like there is a tingle. Some players that would not bother. However, after seeing Mega Man 5's buster and how smooth and powerful it sounded. Mega Man 4's does not sound smooth while charging. Mega Man 4's buster also does not really sound like a charged shot. The charged shot sounds just a little bit better than regular shots. Compared to Mega Man 5 were you had that powerful sound. However, this was the first game that you charge your shots so that probably has a lot to do with it right there. I give the sound in this game a good solid rating take away the buster sound and you have a very good sounding game to play.

Addictiveness and Depth: 9
Mega Man 4 is a fun game to play it is one of my favorites. I often enjoy playing this game. I really think what helps is the stages can be revisited. So if you do not have a special weapon needed to get an item do not worry. You can go back when you have the special weapon. Now I will be honest in other Mega Man games I do like Mega Man 7, 5, V and IV better. But for me this game is up there with Mega Man 3 which in my Mega Man 3 review I said it was a very good game and had  high replay value. Mega Man 4 does not really change. What makes Mega Man 4 so addictive is its depth. The depth in this game is big. You have the 8 robot master stages, the Cossack stages and Dr. Wily. So you have to earn your way to victory which I really like. But that adds depth. Unlike the first two Mega Man games this one is not shot like they were. Mega Man 4 also had new things. First of all there are two adapters in this stage to find and they are well hidden. The fake bad guy was new so that added more levels that were fun. So Mega Man 4 had a lot going on in it, which is what makes this game so fun to play. Mega Man 4 is not a game that one can finish in a short time. It takes time and patience to beat this game.

Difficulty: 8
Mega Man 4 is challenging there are 4 robot masters that are difficult in this game. Pharaoh Man, Dive Man, Bright Man, and Drill man are very difficult and hard to beat in this game. The stages are long and have several obstacles in them. The enemy placement in this game is huge. Mega Man 4 had a lot more enemies compared to the earlier Mega Man games. Enemies just love to shoot at you, knock you into the pits or spikes. Stages that have a lot of enemies that want to do this are: Dive Man and Ring Man's stage. Some of the enemies have small hit boxes on them which if your ridding rush or jumping from one platform to another that can be a problem. Dr. Wily's stages are also very difficult and very hard to beat. Dr. Wily's last boss battle can drive you crazy. However, here is why the difficulty does not get a 9 or a 10. Dr. Cossack's stages are pretty easy. The Cossack bosses are not to hard at all. Last time I played this game I did not in the Cossack levels until the scrolling one, but that was me just not paying attention. The scrolling Cossack stage is really the only hardest Cossack fortress stage. So the Cossack stages keep me from giving this game a 9 or a 10 in difficulty. However, players be warned if this is your first time playing this game be prepared to be challenged because this game is difficult. However, it is the type of difficulty that makes it fun. It really tests your skills unlike the first Mega Man game. The first Mega Man game was difficult because of the glitches in it. As I stated this one like Mega Man 3, 7, V and IV requires skills to master to beat this game.

Overall: 9.1
Okay I will be honest I do like Mega Man 7, 5, V, and IV a little bit better. Mega Man 4 is tied with Mega Man 3 for me. However, this was a great game and it is one of the all time great NES games in my opinion.  I really liked how Capcom was trying something new here by making players thing that they had a new bad guy. Yes, it was obvious Wily was behind it all. But just the thought of a new plot with a twist late in the game was something new. The graphics are very solid. The only problems I had with the graphics were the buster shot and Rush Jet.  However, as I mentioned those were very minor.  The sound of this game really rocked it is just that buster sound could have been better. Mega Man 4 has a lot to offer among gamers and Mega Man players. I also like how you can revisit stages as I mentioned that adds replay value. I remember getting this game a couple of years after it came out. It was on clearance on a store that I got it from. I really had fun with this game. Here it is 2014 and I still enjoy playing this great game. If you want a fun game in the Mega Man series look no further. Would I recommend this game. I can say that I would recommend this game it is a solid game.

The end was not meant to be so here comes number 4.   Azul Fria
OVERVIEW

Rumor once had it that the Mega Man series was going to end at 3 with the seemingly death of Dr. Wily whom you may have remembered got crushed by a block at the end of Mega Man 3. However, things had gone so well that Capcom decided to go on to create Mega Man 4, known in Japan as Rockman 4: Aratanaru Yabou!! which translates to Rockman 4: A New Ambition!! You now have a new scientist to take on and his name is Dr. Cossack and he has created eight new robots for you to take on.

The game's eight bosses are (in order of creation):

Bright Man – He got a light bulb on his head. His attacks are buster shots n' a bright flash of light that freezes you. He also tries to jump on you.
Pharaoh Man – Robot dressed like a true pharaoh. He shoots small Pharaoh Shots and hops around. When he stands still and lifts a finger, he is charging up his Big Pharaoh Shot, which is the size of Megaman.
Drill Man – Has a drill on his head. He likes to burrow a lot. When he goes underground, do not stand still. Move around and he'll pop up hopefully not underneath you. He'll also attack with Drill Bombs that explode on contact with something solid.
Ring Man – His forehead has a small ring. He follows a pattern. He will shoot a Ring Boomerang from the ground and jump to catch it then throw one in the air and charge at you while he catches that Ring Boomerang.
Toad Man – The easiest robot of the bunch with a simple AI. Stay close to him and all he'll do is try to jump on you. Do not give him a chance to use his Rain Flush. It will hit you no matter what. When he raises his hands and shakes his hips, he'll use it.
Dust Man –  Looks like a human vacuum cleaner. Dust Man throws trash at you that splits into 4 then tries to suck you in.
Dive Man – In a manner similar to Dust Man, he looks a human submarine. Dive Man likes to charge a lot and send missiles that home in on you.
Skull Man – What's with the skeleton costume pal? He has the best theme music in this game. He'll shoot normal shots at you then activate his Skull Barrier. When he lets his shield down, he will charge you. At the start of the fight, stand still and he will do the same so you can take a bathroom break before the fight.

Graphics - A+

As usual, the graphics are in tip top shape with even more added features such as the floors in Ring Man's stage that cycles through colors then when step on, they slowly vanish then reappear back in place. Then there is the use of rain inside of Toad Man's stage with some added head wind to go with it for added effect. The same stage also adds the use of a waterfall. Skull Man's stage adds a feature towards the end where it goes from day till dawn and even the fossils in the background and the ones that made the stage are beautifully drawn. Bright Man's stage goes dark when you kill the enemies that look like light bulbs then turn back on when killing the green enemies that light up the stage.

Controls - A

Controls stay the same with an added new feature for Mega Man 4. Mega Man 3 introduced the slide. Mega Man 4 introduced the Charge Shot for the regular gun but it was already introduced in Mega Man 2 in conjunction with the Atomic Fire from Heat Man. You can also utilize a couple other weapons for extra effects. With the Pharaoh Shot you can hold the fire button down to form an overhead shot and release the button to throw it but if you continue to hold down the button, most enemies will die upon touching the overhead orb those who are not defeated in one hit will make it disappear but you can still throw a fully charged Pharaoh Shot upon releasing the fire button. The other weapon with a special use is the Drill Bomb. You can press the fire button while it is in flight to make it explode manually. This tactic will come into play towards the end of the game.

Gameplay - A+

Each robot is weak to another's weapon. The rock-paper-scissors concept is back intact. That means one enemy weakness per boss. In addition to the 8 weapons, you can get three Rush items to use for traveling purposes. Rush Coil (have this from the start) lets you jump to higher places out of reach. Rush Jet (obtained from Drill Man) lets you fly across extremely long pits and spikes and from this game on, Rush can only move forward by himself but you control him vertically. Rush Marine (obtained from Toad Man) is like the Rush Jet but used underwater but it's mostly useless and can only be summoned if in the water or if Rush lands in the water or it'll go back up. You also now have extra adapter items. Balloon Adapter lets you get to places out of reach similar to Item-1 from Mega Man 2. Wire Adapter lets you cling a wire to the ceiling and pull yourself up. This also makes way for a unique Mega Man sprite where he can look up.

Here is a small guide to the weaknesses of the bosses in order to their creation:
Bright Man (weak to Rain Flush)
Pharoah Man (weak to Flash Stopper)
Drill Man (weak to Dive Missile)
Ring Man (weak to Pharaoh Shot)
Toad Man (weak to Drill Bomb)
Dust Man (weak to Ring Boomerang)
Dive Man (weak to Skull Barrier)
Skull Man (weak to Dust Crusher)

Once you do away with all eight robots, for the first time in the Mega Man series you will now fight through two castles (one by the suspected enemy and the other by Dr. Wily when he is revealed to be the true mastermind.) The concept would later on be abandoned after Mega Man 6. The first castle consists of four stages and the second castle has four also. In Cossack Castle, you got to deal with a lot of frustrating jumps and careful climbing. The first Cossack boss is Mothraya who is weak to the Ring Boomerang. This fight you may say is more of a timed one as it has the ability to knock out pieces of the floor and you risk the chance of falling into the pit to your death. The second boss called Square Machine will split into three parts that move at various speeds. You can defeat it using Drill Bombs and Dust Crusher once it becomes one solid piece and hit it in the orb. You'll know if is going to solidify when it slows down. The third boss fight actually consists of two bosses called Cockroach Twins. The hardest part about this fight is staying on top because one wrong step and you will fall to your death in the spike pit. The Pharaoh Shot is the weapon of choice as you can form the orb above and hit the boss then throw another for extra damage. Once you defeat the first one, the other one comes out and goes crazy. Defeat it as before and you are off to face Dr. Cossack. Avoid being directly below him at all costs. He'll grab you and slam you for damage. Avoid his bullets and use the Charge Shot or Dust Crusher to defeat him. After the fight, Protoman will appear with a girl named Kalinka. Kalinka will beg Megaman not to hurt her father anymore because she explains that Wily took her hostage to make Cossack fight you. Cossack will come down and ask you for your forgiveness. Wily enters and reprimands Protoman for his betrayal and vows to break you. Watching to much Rocky IV there, Wily?

So Wily is revealed to be the culprit behind it all. You fight through a whole new castle and in one of those stages you deal with the Yoku blocks. Rush Jet will not be much help this time as you can't control his forward progress, only his vertical progress. The Wire on the other hand can be a bit of help. The first Wily boss is the Metall Daddy. You all remember the Mommy in Mega Man 3 in the revisited Needle Man stage. He falls with Dust Crusher or Ring Boomerang. His stomps can freeze you in place and makes Metalls fall. The second Wily boss is Octopus Furnace who is weak to the Ring Boomerang (that seems to be the obvious choice for the orbs don't it?) It acts like a giant version of the Gachappon. The third stage has the boss refights and a fight against Dr. Wily. Stay next to the machine to avoid it shots and just plug it full of Charge Shots. The next phase is tough. Throw a Drill Bomb and make it explode manually on the orb to damage it. There is a glitch where you can "kill" Wily by using the Rain Flush after defeating his second phase but it leaves you stuck there until you reset the game. The final fight features the first time Wily will vanish in and out of the playing field. Use your Pharaoh Shot once you see where he is because he will flash momentarily before he disappears. That is where he will be for you to blast him with the Pharaoh Shot. Once he is defeated, the lab will explode and you and Wily make an escape as Mega Man rides back to his home with a good ol' honey I'm home jump at the end.

Difficulty - 3

While this game is not eactly too hard, you will run into some frustration in some levels. Getting the Ballon and the Wire are optional but they make things a whole lot easier for you. You can find the Balloon Adapter by hopping over the pit in Pharaoh Man's stage and gathering it from there. You can get the Wire from Dive Man's stage. Kill the second whale and jump into the pit and avoid the spikes as you go down then gather it once you reach the bottom. The hardest part if anything is the second phase of the first Wily fight as some people won't have sense to do the Drill Bomb trick. They don't think they could jump that high but they can. The shots are hard to avoid.
Sound/Music - B

The soundtrack is okay but I've heard better. Skull Man has one of the best soundtracks for the Robot Masters that I've heard and other Robot Masters in the game whose music I liked were Dive Man, Ring Man, and Pharaoh Man. The ending song is also a good song to listen to. The music I was not a fan of were the castle theme. It was not so catchy like the rest of the music in the game.

Replay Value - B

Replayability is not to much keen as it was before except for a few Wily bosses having secondary weaknesses that you want to discover. The password feature no longer keeps track of how many E-Tanks you've obtained.  The game has a lot of depth within it especially with the introduction of two castles in the game which carries on to Mega Man 5 and 6.

Overall - A

Rumor had it that  Mega Man 3 was meant to be the final game before Mega Man 4 was made but if it was then it would have went out with a bang. Dr. Wily seemed to have died at the end but when you go through the list of created robots by Dr. Light ending with Proto Man being Mega Man's brother, you will see Dr. Wily's capsule land in a tree. Mega Man 4 showed that there was no overstauration of the series as it was still an enjoyable game to play.

Mega Man 4 review   Zircron Swift
As the first three classic Mega Man games draw to a close, another three would open up. The initial three have created a foundation for the Blue bomber with amazing music, detailed graphics and hard as nails challenges, with effective and fun controls. Truly how every platformer should be like. To me, Mega Man is the ideal platforming game. Yes, Mario has it's many moments in the sun, and its platforming abilities shown to us as superb, but Mega Man is what perfects that platforming to the nth degree. So with another seven Mega Man classic games down the road, one can only hope that the future of this little boy in blue has games that match what it was before, trying to keep things fresh, excited, challenging and most importantly, maintaining that perfection of platforming that I have grown to love.
Unfortunately, this game fails that. Allow me to explain.
One thing worth mentioning about this game was that it was created in 1991, when the Super Nintendo came out. Capcom could have been working on a Mega Man game for the newly released console, but felt better if they kept with the 8-bit style. I don't know why they did it, but maybe they felt that it was better not to break anything that wasn't broken. This game gave me high hopes to begin with, with a killer cut scene and promising story, ones of which were hopeful to steer away from the old "Dr. Wily did it" plot that has happened three times now. It tells of Dr. Light receiving a letter from a Russian scientist, called Dr. Cossack. He claimed to be the worlds greatest engineer, releases his robot army on the world, and wanted to test his creations against Dr. Lights. The good doctor puts Mega Man up to the test in order to maintain peace. And so the game begins.
Eight new robot masters: Skull Man, Toad Man, Ring Man ,Bright Man. Dust Man, Dive Man, and Drill Man and Pharaoh Man, most of which sound fairly good. The same deal applies here, fight off all eight robot masters, go to Dr. Cossack's castle, and stop him. Normally in a Mega Man game, I like to spend a little time on the level select screen to try and work out the order, and I normally fail, but with these robot masters it's very hard to work it out. I can make a connection with a few, but them I can't make any more afterwards. I suppose Mega Man 3 had a few of these as well, so it's not that big a deal.
As with Mega Man 3, you have the helpful slide ability with you. In addition to that, you can also charge up your plasma cannon to deal more damage. As a bit of a purist, I feel that this kinda makes the game play a little too easy, but at the same time, it does balance out the difficulty a bit for those new Mega Man players. However, that being said, the whole game is disappointingly easy. it is by far the easiest Mega Man game I have played. Getting to the boss room in every level was a doddle with minimal deaths, and defeating most of the robot masters was really easy. Not all of them were easy, but most of them were.
How it normally works is that you fight a robot with your plasma cannon, defeat it, and hope that the next robot master you fight will be weak against the weapon you just acquired. Then you can just work around that with trail and error (or stubborn skill with your plasma cannon) to eat away at the rest of the robot masters. However with this game, charging your plasma cannon to full power does the same damage as that robot masters weakness. So in effect, you always have the power to deal 3 bars of health to the boss, making the point of working out and experimenting with different weapons almost pointless. You could just use your charged plasma cannon for all the bosses to defeat them easily. This makes defeating any boss pretty easy if you have basic skills in a Mega Man game. This annoys me because the charged plasma cannon doesn't balance the difficulty a bit, it makes the whole concept of the game too easy, making it disappointing to me. Bright man and Skull man were pretty much the same, and only Ring man proved the only real challenge, showing you had to dodge his attacks effectively to beat him. The rest didn't have that, they seemed cheap and repetitive.
Another thing I found disappointing was the music. It wasn't as strong as the other three games. Truth be told, some of the music near the end (and the title screen music) was pretty amazing, but the rest seemed weak and not very engaging. The password screen music was annoying and not very well composed, not to mention lazy, and the level select music just didn't do it for me. The robot master levels themes just didn't catch me as good (well, most of them), and overall, the music generally disappointed me.
The last thing that annoyed me was the level design of the entire game. Some of the levels were too short for my liking, while others didn't have tricky enemy placement or hard platforming like the others had. It just had this...simplicity to it. It was too straight forward, and there were not enough quirks in the levels theme to keep me fully satisfied. However, I will praise it's different routes that it holds. Sometimes you can in fact branch off into a different direction, and you can come across either an energy tank, or a special weapon. The special weapons are basically like the items off Mega Man 2, so to speak. One is a cool grappling hook like the one Batman has, and the others are floating balloons you can step on for extra height. It is a nice addition that makes the whole thing not as straight forward as I might make it seem.
However, I will highly praise the graphics. If there ever was perfection in NES graphics, the Mega Man would get the gold in detail. As the NES Mega Man games grew on, the level of detail applied in the graphics would get greater and greater, and the forth game really started to show that. The backgrounds were nicely detailed, and the castle had a neat design to it. There was a nice level of detail in the blocks and all the enemies were nice to look at. The animation though is precisely the same as the first three games. The controls for that matter are exactly the same, as they should be.
Overall I give this game a 7.4/10     I wouldn't call this a bad Mega Man game, because in all fairness, it's not half bad as a platformer. However, as a Mega Man game, I found it hugely disappointing. The bosses were too easy to me by design, and were made that little bit easier with your newly found chargeable cannon, the music was disappointing to me, and the level design seemed cheap and lazy (for the most part). If you want to start Mega Man, then by all means start with this game. It's certainly a nice Mega Man game to start off with that doesn't exceed the intense difficulty the first three offer.

Mega Man 4   The Planned Acc..
Overall: 9.9
Mega Man 4. The name echoes in my brain when I say it. I'll be honest with you guys. I could not beat this game to save my life as a kid, and I still couldn't beat it until after 12 years. Mega Man 4. In my opinion, even above Mega Man 1,2, and 3, I still find Mega Man 4 to be the hardest game of the series. Well- The robot masters, I mean. But this is the game that got me hooked on the Mega Man series. It's a really fun game, and despite its grueling difficulty, it is pretty addicting. And the levels have extremely clever designs. Capcom brings Mega Man back a fourth time, and the game is just as impressing as the first three. They added even more cool tricks that Mega Man can perform than the first three. I'll explain some of those later. Overall, and due to the awesome gameplay, the unique bosses, and the good graphics of the time, but sadly, the gameplay, being so hard only deteriorates the game's addictiveness by a little. So this game gets a 9.9.
Graphics: 8
What can I say? It's Mega Man. The graphics from the first 3 games really haven't changed much. But then again, why fix what isn't broken? Right? Like I said, the game's graphics are just as good as the others, slightly better. The enemies have more patterns that the first game, and the game has a bit more smooth animations, in my opinion. A new ability added to the game, the charge beam, is a great new addition, it makes your original Mega buster just a bit more powerful, making the infamous bosses just that much easier. But it seems the bosses also got upgrades. They seem just as hard or even harder than the previous installments. But anyways, due to it being literally almost identical to the other Mega Man games, and also due to the smooth animations and good graphics, Mega Man 4's graphics get an 8.
Sound: 10
Capcom has always been great with music. Especially in any Mega Man game. This game doesn't change my opinion of their great talent with music. In fact, it makes me love them more. The game's music is amazing. Like for example, one stage, the first stage after you defeat the robot masters, has my favorite Mega Man song in the classic series. Not to mention the last stage song. But those songs are only the start of this game's great music. Try the game out, and see for yourself. The sounds themselves, Mega Man's buster, the jumping sounds, the explosions, everything! The sounds are spot on. And if you've ever played a Mega Man game, and beat a boss, you know how satisfying it sounds when all the music stops and all you hear is the satisfying explosion of the boss. Try it! For the game's unbeatable music, and for the spot-on sounds, the sounds of this game get a 10. Well deserved.
Addictiveness: 8
This game isn't addicting at all. It's not the most addicting game out there, but it's pretty fun. I have spent countless hours trying to beat this game. No, not countless hours. Countless years. 12 years is a pretty long time. Especially for trying to beat one game. I only recently beat this game a few months ago, and I'd beaten nearly 15 Mega Man games before I beat that one. Plus, Mega Man as one game isn't quite as addictive as the whole series put together. Every Mega Man game follows in some chronological order except the Battle Networks and Star Forces. If you play one, you'll probably play more, and more, and more. They're that addicting. You'll want to play Mega Man 4, then 5, then 6, and so on. That's why I say you can't rate this game's addictiveness. It's just impossible. If you play this, you need to play the others because the story is incomplete, so to rate Mega Man (All series') it gets an 8. Please understand.
Story: 7
The story of this game is okay. It's nothing to really get worked up about. Dr. Wily has disappeared and Mega Man, Roll, and Dr. Light are living in peace, until the world is threatened once again by a new enemy, Dr. Cossack. He created another set of 8 robot masters that you have to defeat. You have to beat those robot masters in order to find out the truth!
Those of you who haven't beat the game yet, I won't spoil it for you. Just because I'm nice like that. The story is not a huge part of the game, though, and you know the big story is incomplete without playing every other Mega Man game. But the story plays a less than significant part of this game. The game's more focused on gameplay. But I like it that way. It's what made classic Mega Man more casual and fun. I wouldn't change it. But anyways, for the insignificant story, and the incomplete story, the rating goes down, but for the entire series, that makes the rating go up. I give the game's story a 7. Not bad.
Depth: 5
Being the game's weakest aspect, this game isn't very long at all. Even though I hadn't beaten this game for 12 years, I constantly made it to the last stage of the game. Like I said, this game is pretty short. As are all classic Mega Man games. It's a bit longer than the first three, adding in some additional stages, but even so, the game doesn't seem affected very much by the few stage additions. But the good thing about this game is it will make you want to play the other games, completing the chronological order of the series! The game seemed to take forever to me before I beat it, but now that I've beaten it a good amount of times, I now know just how short the game really is. The game is wicked short, what else can I say? It gets a 5.
Difficulty: 9
If you're looking for a hard game, this is your game. Mega Man 4 is, as I said earlier, the hardest game overall in the series, in my opinion. I never had a harder time with a game than this one. The clever setup of the bosses, and the stages make the game increasingly difficult. Some of the bosses you just have to be extremely good at dodging, or you have to shoot before the boss does. Yeah, it's that hard. Some of the bosses will kill you in no less than 3 hits. So you need to be careful. This game has just as many open pits, spikes, and enemies as before. Mega Man never seizes to amaze me with its difficulty. For being extremely hard, Mega Man 4 gets a 9.
Wrap things up...
Despite Mega Man 4's weak points, it was the first game I've ever played, and I enjoy it still. I highly recommend anyone out there to play it, because it's just extremely fun, and challenging. If I could have started out on a different game, I don't think I would have. Mega Man 4 just stood out to me over the others, and it's been really close to my heart since. I love this game. You really should play this. And any other Mega Man game. It's just a great franchise overall, and it's not a surprise that this game is still being made today. Mega Man is legendary. Good luck playing through this one. It's pretty hard. But overall, over anything, have fun playing!

Review of Mega Man 4.
Graphics - 7
They are mostly good for the NES, but some things can be confusing. This is one of those games where there are some "ok" and "meh" graphics, this one looks good. I can give the graphical rating a good 7.
Sound - 8
This game puts in more soundtracks and sounds in this game, and it is a little better than the graphics, but the sounds, most of them were probably from past mega man games, which were the first 3 games, some were reused in future games, like mega man 5 and 6. I give the sounds a great 8.
Addictiveness - 6
This game is good, but if you ever played the first few games, you might notice that capcom keeps putting slight changes into the parts of the game, and it gets repetitive quick, so I give the addicting rating a ok 6.
Depth - 8
It seems it is almost as long as mega man 3, but mega man 3 "won by a landslide" in depth, making me give the depth a 8.
Difficulty - 9
It is a huge jump in difficulty, but it is nearly as hard as the first level of battletoads when playing that for the first time, Mega Man 4 is very hard, it is so hard, I just could never beat the 2nd stage of Dr. Cossack's castle, which is a huge pain in the butt to beat the first dr Cossack level due to the huge difficulty. I need to give that a 9. :(
Story - 5
The story is like the past game (Which does not tell the story) but it takes place in the year, "A.D. 20XX" in which Dr. Wily again sends out another 8 robot master army to attack mega man, but mega man was now equipped with a more powerful mega buster which if you hold to B button, your blaster will charge up and if you release it at a enemy, it will deal more damage. The story also shows how "Rock", the Mega Man character transforms into a fighting robot by Dr. Light. I give the story a "meh" 5. :S
Overall - 7.8
It is okay, but it does have some huge problems with the difficulty, a ok story, good graphics and sound, huge depth, and the addicting meter is a "meh".
Don't forget to check out my other reviews! :D
Overall Rating: C+
Meh, it is good. But it is hard as "rats biting metal" again just like the battletoads game.

The Blue Bomber Saves The Day!   supersayianbroly
The Blue Bomber comes back again in this fourth installment in the now immortal Mega Man game franchise, this time he is joined by a new friend Eddie who is a small robot that appears about four times in this game giving Mega man a item which will range from energy,  weapon energy, a free life, or the very rare occurrence a energy canister.
This time the Enemy is apparently not Dr. Wiley it is a scientist and master robot designer named Dr. Cossack (I think I spelled that right) Dr. Cossack has created eight powerful robots of his own to take down Mega Man.
You play through like all the others once again collecting the powers of the defeated robots and using them to defeat the others.
There are two hidden powers in this game which are not really that difficult to find once you know where to look, these hidden powers are the Balloon which creates a Balloon for Mega man to stand on but it disappears quite quickly, the other is a wire which can only be shot up it is used to go up and reach higher places.
This game also has in a couple of stages the chance to go in two different directions to reach different areas.
Once you reach Dr. Cossack's stages you travel through them beating his bigger boss robots, finally reaching Dr. Cossack once you beat him Proto Man appears bearing a little girl who tells you to stop hurting her father that he is a good man, she was kidnapped by Dr. Wiley so her father would attack you.
So you set off after Dr. Wiley, this time however the boss robots from Mega Man 3 are nowhere to be seen you just have to fight the eight robots from this game again then it is straight to Wiley right after, once beating him there you have to fight him one more time , but no weapon will harm him except one.
This game goes back to the beginning like part 2 it has a story at the start great move, the music keeps getting better with each game.
The cover now feature's starting with part 3 our actual Blue Bomber, which is a great relief in my opinion.
Once again I must say this is a must have for any collector, these game live on after our child hoods are ended and they are always fun to play and always present a challenge.
Long live The Blue Bomber (Mega Man)

Mega Man 4: A very underrated title.   Mega Mewtwo X
i don’t consider myself MUCH of a mega man fan, I’ve only beat 3 games out of the whole classic series! But I think I’ve played enough of the fourth to give an honest opinion. So here we go! This is my review of mega man 4.
Story (8): This is the first game in the series to have a (as I like to call them) “decoy villains” in this case, Dr. Mikhail Sergeyevich Cossack. A Russian evil scientist with a daughter named Kalinka. He and Kalinka are kidnapped by Dr. Wily, but wily decides to spare him in exchange for defeating mega man. (or captured him for the reason, idk.) So when mega man hears about Dr. Cossacks (wily’s) intentions to take over the world, mega man hurries to stop Cossack! (Wily, lol)
Sound (9): OH DAYUM does the music sound good. Skull man’s being my favorite. Almost every music track in this game sounds good. With a few being about grade-b tracks. However, this IS mega man we’re talking about, so is that so unorthodox?
Graphics (9): The graphics are quite well made. I personally love some of the details in the background. Like the little skulls in the walls of skull man’s stage. Or the piles of trash in dust man’s stage. my most favorite detail being the gears and the lights in Bright man’s stage. ( even if it’s difficult to see where you are going.) The only thing I hate about the graphics are when sprite flickering happens. But that’s a problem with almost every NES game, so it won’t much of a problem.
Depth (6): Depth? HAH! You won’t find any type of depth here. The game can take you about 2-3 hours. And if you’re really good, about 30 minutes to an hour. To put it simply, you go beat 8 robot masters. Go to Cossack’s lair, go beat Cossack, go to WILY’S lair, and finally, go beat wily. That simple. But since you can choose the robot masters in whatever order you want, I’ll bump the depth up to a 6.
Addictiveness (7): I can’t really say that this is an addictive game, it only takes about 30 minutes to 3 hours to beat. But you can set self-challenges for yourself, so that’s something. And you can also try to pull a Roahm Mythril and try to do a perfect run against them all. So I’ll bump it up to a 7 like the last one.
Difficulty (9): By today’s standards, this game is just brutal. If you play a lot of “hand-holding” games and this is your first time playing mega man, then you will most likely get very angry at this game. It has a lot of the things that NES games are riddled with: Knockback, enemies that hit like trucks at times, bottomless pits, spikes, and too much more to talk about. This game will test your patience if this is your first time playing the game. (unless you play mega man a lot.)
Overall (9.3): If you ask me, this game holds up exceptionally well by today’s standards. The game has a lot of fun moments, has a good soundtrack, good graphical capabilities for the time in which it was made, and a decent story to boot. If you still have an NES and you haven’t played this game, go play it! Or you can buy it off the 3ds E-shop for $4.99. IMO, mega man 4 is the best mega man game I’ve played. Thank you for stopping by, this is Mega Mewtwo x: Signing out.

Mega Man 4 - a good game in its own right   geeogree
So it looks like the third time was the charm. Mega Man has defeated Dr. Wily 3 times and the world is now at peace. However, even though Dr. Wily is gone it seems that the world isn’t as safe as Dr. Light and Mega Man once thought. A Russian scientist named Dr. Cossack has appeared with 8 robots of his own and is wreaking havoc on the world! Mega Man must once again suit up to take on Dr. Cossack and defeat his 8 robots to have peace again in the world.
Mega Man 4 was the first game in the NES series to be worse than the previous games. While I don’t think this game is much worse than 2 or 3 I do think it starts the decline in quality in Mega Man games for the NES. One of the biggest complaints about Mega Man 4 is the introduction of the Mega Buster. The Mega Buster is the regular weapon Mega Man has but charged up into a stronger blast. While I thought it was an interesting addition to the game it does modify the game play a fair bit compared to the older Mega Man games. If this changed hadn’t been made but the game was made similarly to Mega Man 3 I wonder if people would complain the game didn’t change enough to improve the game. You can’t win with a series like Mega Man without making someone else unhappy. Still, I think this is a great game and worth playing and I’ll explain why.
Graphics 9/10 – The graphics for Mega Man 4 are just as good as Mega Man 3. At this point if they weren’t I would be very disappointed. Level designs are still unique and interesting to look at. Each has its own style which includes specific monster types to each level. I’ve always liked that about the Mega Man series. The backgrounds are also better to look at than the nearly completely lacking ones for 1 and 2. Overall the graphics didn’t disappoint compared to the previous games which is why my rating stays at a 9.
Sound 7/10 – The music for Mega Man 4 was good overall. The variety was still there and the songs fit the level design and theme pretty well. However, I feel like it took a step back when comparing it to Mega Man 2 or 3 which is unfortunate. To be fair though, those 2 games had some great music. There were a few songs (like the password screen) which are painful to listen to. Then there were others like the Skull theme and the stage select which I think are great. Too many bad and not enough great songs to give it any higher of a rating than 7.
Addictiveness 6/10 – I honestly did not find myself drawn back to this game like I was to others in the series. I know I’ve played this game plenty as a kid but not as much as I played 3. It has the same replay-ability as the previous games in the series in that you need to figure out which bosses are hurt by which power ups. This isn’t as needed though because of the Mega Buster power. Using the Mega Buster you can beat nearly any boss once you have their boss mechanics memorized. While I like that you can beat a boss without absolutely having to have the power up they are weak to I don’t think it should be as easy as it is in Mega Man 4. It was always possible to beat the boss in the previous games without the right power up but you died more often than you beat the boss.
Story 7/10 – I did like that this story didn’t have Dr. Wily in it at first. It was almost like that era of the game was over and now it was someone else’s turn to try and best Mega Man. Unfortunately it turned out to just be Dr. Wily behind the scenes again only revealing himself after you beat Dr. Cossack. Then you had to go beat Dr. Wily all over again. I’m not sure if I would have been happy with Dr. Wily being dead and Dr. Cossack taking over but I don’t really like the kidnapped kid forcing Dr. Cossack to try and defeat Mega Man story. Stuff like that never works. Still, like I said before, at least it wasn’t just Dr. Wily from the start. This had a twist to it even if I didn’t love the twist. Kept the story fresher than if Dr. Wily was the villain from the beginning.
Depth 5/10 - I feel like this game didn’t have that much depth to it. You beat the 8 main robots and then go through a very linear progression through the 2 final castle levels. I do know there are some secrets in the game but I don’t feel like they really add much to the depth of the game. It’s not like a separate path through the game as a whole but only slightly changes how the game progresses. I really wish there were multiple ways to get through each level and possibly a different story line depending on choices you make as you play. I guess that sort of depth is a bit too much for a side-scroller on the NES.
Difficulty 9/10 – Mega Man 4 does not lack for difficulty. Like all Mega Man games death is around every corner. Miss a jump and you die and go back to the start of the level. Boss fights, while easier than Mega Man 2 or 3 were, could end with only a handful of hits against Mega Man if you aren’t careful. Also, some of the levels in Dr. Cossack’s castle can become quite frustrating. It is definitely a game that will challenge a player until the levels become familiar. Like previous games in the series there is little variety in the level once you’ve played it through so replays of the game become much easier.
Overall – 8.0/10 – Mega Man 4 is in no way a bad game. It only gets a bad rap because it is compared to the 2 previous games that were wildly popular and successful. I still recommend this game to anyone who has played other games in the Mega Man series. It does pale in comparison to the earlier games but is still a good game on its own accord.

Mega Man 4!!   chris4303
Overall 9.8-
The fourth installment in the Mega Man series was another GREAT game and added new tricks and surprises while keeping the flavor of the first three MM games. This game is probably the "unsung" game in the Mega Man series. Many people talk about how great the games MM2 and MM3 were(which is TRUE) but they overlook what was yet another fantastic addition to the Mega Man series. The cybernetic suitcase, Fliptop makes his first appearance in this game. He meets you in certain stages and gives you an item such as a 1up or an energy tank. Also, Mega Man now has the Mega Buster which charges up when you hold the B button. A BIG plus indeed.
Graphics 9-
Like its predecessors, Mega Man 4 features EXCELLENT graphics with plenty of color, detail, and animation. Also, the graphics and platforms is Mega Man 4 are BIG which makes Mega Man feel "small" unlike previous MM games. The animation is VERY smooth. The Pharoah Man stage features nice animations with the quicksand and the stars while the Toad Man stage features rain that downpours more as Mega Man progresses. Hey, who said being a hero was easy? All in all, the graphics of Mega Man 4 are as good as or even better than the first three MM games.
Sound 9-
The soundtrack of here is good with some VERY catchy songs. Dr.Cossack's castle contains two excellent themes that fit the stages perfectly! Every stage has great music in MM4. The feel is there too. The Dive Man stage has a lively beat while the Dust Man stage music is nice and soft. The themes are different than the first three Mega Man games which is cool. EVERY Mega Man game has music unlike the other MM games which is a BIG plus. I mean that no music in MM4 sounds the least bit reminiscent of another MM game. Overall, Mega Man 4 has excellent music.
Story 9-
This time around, Dr. Wily isn't the man behind the overthrow of the world; or at least, not at the beginning. Now a new scientist named Dr. Cossack has manufactured eight new robots to challenge the blue bomber. After all eight of them are defeated and Dr. Cossack is reached, we find that there was a motive behind all this - Dr. C's daughter was kidnapped by the ubiquitous Dr. Wily, who forced Dr. C to attack. So, once again, it's back to Dr. W's hideout to destroy his machinery - at least, for another year. Surprisingly, the plot works. It isn't the same thing rehashed like the SMB or Castlevania series - this time there are actually characters besides MM, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily. Another big plus goes to including the origin of Mega Man at the beginning of the game. In fact, I'd say that this plot is the best part of this game.

Mega Man 4 (NES) Review   yaoyao9
Ah, Mega Man 4! When Russians build robots, Mega Man fights for truth, justice, and the American way by smashing them to bits! This was my favorite Mega Man title for years, until I finished MM5. More on that with that review. Anyway, for the 3rd annual sequel for the Mega Man line (which was like the COD of the 1980's), let's see what I have to say.
Graphics: Unfortunately, not a whole lot of improvement on the graphics. They look good and are better than MM3, but my issues with the 2D Robot Masters remain unchanged. The backgrounds are significantly improved, and Skull Man's stage is the pinnacle of that. Otherwise, I don't need to say a lot. It looked better than last year.
Sound: MM4's soundtrack, while lovable to me, is only decent at best. Themes such as the Wily fortress themes are a bit grating on the ears, and don't even get me started on the charge up noise for the Charge Shot gimmick. In fact, I'll talk about it next.
NEW GIMMICKS: MM4 introduced to us the Charge Shot, which admittedly sounds cool, but is rather useless once you realize that it takes time to charge just like the Atomic Fire of MM2 or Pharaoh Shot of MM4, but also comes with a charge up noise that I swear will drive a player insane if he/she listens to it for 5 minutes on end. The shot itself is also quite disappointing, since it is more lengthy than wide, you are not gonna be able to hit a lot of enemies with the thing, since it is barely wider than a standard pellet from your buster. What is good, however, is the fact that they improved the slide! YES! Mega Man can slide infinitely when the forward, down, and turbo A buttons are held down, instead of sliding then taking a hop like in MM3! Speed Run heaven!
Addictiveness: Not a whole lot to say yet again. As with all Mega Man titles, experimenting with your arsenal of toys will be the prime factor to your replaying of each title. The weapon selection in MM4 is generally better than that of MM3, with great weapons like the Ring Boomerang, Pharaoh Shot, and Flash Stopper to boot.
Story: WE GET A CUT SCENE THAT EXPLAINS THE SERIES HISTORY! Other than that, it matters not. Does anyone really care about the story in Mega Man? Ever?
Depth: The two fortresses will keep you company. If you hate them as much as I do, then kiss depth good bye. Other than the 8 Robot Masters, which are a given, there is nothing more to offer... Unless you care for items like the Balloon or Wire, but they aren't really necessary for anything.
Difficulty: MM4 definitely ranked up the difficulty of the Fortress stages, and there seems to be a smooth transition from Robot Master, to Cossack, and finally Wily. Unlike MM3 or MM1, which was too easy (former) or unfairly hard (latter), the MM4 fortresses are certainly a challenge, but not a insane or impossible challenge. You are not going to break a controller any time soon, but you will die a couple of times.
Overall: MM4: GREAT. Play it if you haven't yet. Dr. Cossack may rank up there with TF2's Heavy for most Russian video game character ever. You won't regret the experience.

Use Dust Crusher or the Ring Boomerang (cuts through shield) on Skull Man. Use Dust Crusher and/or Skull Barrier on Dive Man. Information from http://www.mmhp.net/GameHin
Metal Triforce 06-21-12 - 06:32 PM
Use arm cannon on Dust Man.
Metal Triforce 06-21-12 - 06:32 PM
Toad Man, Bright Man, Pharaoh Man, Ring Man, Dust Man, Skull Man, Dive Man, Drill Man.
StriderZero 06-21-12 - 06:29 PM
Does anyone know the weakness order
Rockitall235 06-21-12 - 06:24 PM
Toad Man is the one that I'd recommend to beat first. He's very simple to beat but most of the other bosses are freakin' hard.
