jump higher   RedHotReviewer
Hello and welcome to my review on Mario Jump. Seems to me that this is a game where you can jump as high as you want. But there are a few risks if you want to jump as high as possible. I will mention about them later on. This is Mario Jump for the NES System.
Story 5/10
Despite what the featured review of Mario Jump says about the story line of this game, this game does have a story line. But it is the same old same old. So there isn't much else to talk about in the story section. Bowser has kidnapped your Princess, Luigi doesn't feature in this story even if you try to use two player mode. Hence the name of the game, Mario Jump.
Gameplay 7/10
The controls for this game is the same for nearly any Mario NES game. Except in this one there is a slight difference. You can hold down the jump button (which is x in this game) and the longer you hold the x button down the higher you jump. There is a glitch where if you jump high enough the timer can either heavily slow down or completely stop. This means you have jumped to high. But you only need to hold down the x button for a short amount of time in this game. Also some of the levels in the game are slightly different. Like 1-1, the first level. You can get to the -1 world in this game without even needing to glitch at all.
Graphics 8/10
The graphics in this game is basically the graphics from the original Super Mario Bros. As this is a really vanilla hack all the levels are basically the same as the original Super Mario Bros. Before the graphics overhaul they had when they made Super Mario Bros All-Stars (which was a graphics update basically.)
Sound 8/10
The sound in this game is basically the same sound from super mario bros so there isn't much else to talk about in the sound section.
Addictiveness 10/10
This game has lots of secrets that are just waiting for you to discover because of how high you can jump on 1-2 you can look like you are wall jumping at the start and you can use the secret jumping hack I mentioned about (even though it isn't much of a secret or a hack.) to go to world -1 as well as finding other cool things as well. Hey, you might come across the secret warp area in the cave level of 4-2 if you jump high enough. The sky is the limit in this game. You will also be able to solve the mystery of what is on the other side of the flag for yourself. I will not spoil it for you. Some people like me have played this for hours of end and enjoy every minute of it.
Depth 7/10
With all the bugs and glitches you can discover in this game I bet you will be playing this game for hours on end. The part of this game that will take the longest is how to get to -1 and go beyond that. I have gotten to -1 but I haven't been able to see a way to get to -2 without editing the ROM.
Difficulty 7/10
I have to rate the difficulty in this game a 7 out of 10 because of the fact that the real and ever present danger of this game isn't the enemies itself. Its the fact you can glitch and crash the game. You can also jump too high as well. You can't moon jump over the hammer bros, can't use the fire thrower or else the game will just crash. I have tested this and the game will crash. There is also another 1-up glitch by jumping on goombas. Figuring out whether you have to land on the goomba from a high or a normal jump distance is the other question.
Overall 8.4/10
I strongly suggest you play this game sometime in your life or your stay on here. Trust me about this, the truth is if you play this game you will not regret it at all. I've played this good and enjoyable games for a few hours now and I'm still loving every minute of it.

Mario Jump Rom   Redrunelord
Limitations can be considered simple challenges to those with great minds: indeed, anyone who sees something limiting would wish to prove it wrong, and overcome it. Perhaps that is a direct effect of the human nature of desiring more, but regardless this will push people to make new and greater things with what is accessible, if not spawning the concept of innovation. Innovation is also what advances humanity (or pushes it back) so it is an immense irony that limitations are the key to advancement.
Nintendo is often considered to have seen the limitations of previous consoles, and to have pushed the industry into creating new concepts. To a degree, these people are correct, and at the forefront of this movement was the Super Mario Brothers. This game is often considered the industry standard for platformers, but it still has limitations (like you can't properly run and shoot fire flowers at the same time). Now, with the relative access to this game now, people look at its limitations and pushes the game forward in as many ways possible, and one of the results was Mario Jump.
Mario Jump is odd in that almost nothing is changed from the original, while adding some innovation. Mario jump's audio and video is, in most if not all manners, identical to the 1985 NES game. The logic of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" likely applies, but there was a single sprite change: Mario. Mario's original color scheme was a primarily red tone, but this hack changes it to a dark blue/light blue configuration. The audio harbors no changes that are noticeable, but again don't fix what isn't broken. If the player liked the original audio and graphics/animations, then they should find these suitable. The level changes some minor aspects, such as altering certain squares, removing/adding a few blocks, but this is hardly noticeable. The story-line is exactly the same as the original: the Princess has been captured, and the player got to rescue them. All in all, a lot of the regular Mario elements remains unchanged and do not require much description.
Indeed, the game is almost entirely unaltered except for how the jump control responds, hence its title of Mario Jump. The game essentially changes this one key aspect and, in the words of iron Maiden, "Say goodbye to gravity, and say goodbye to death. Hello to eternity and live for every breath." Essentially the player can go to infinite heights by holding down the jump button, and can bypass the entire level, or only hold it for a second and jump over the Koopa army. How the player decides to utilize this key difference will change the entire game; opting to simply hold the level and fly over the level will make it essentially impossible to lose, though there are a few pitfalls that could render the level unbeatable, such as overshooting the flag or arriving over where the player fights/dodges Bowser. Nonetheless, it can be more fun playing with Mario's jumping capacity than actually trying to beat the level, and this alone makes the game rise in the ranks. However, this ship does not hold up well in water in one important regard: build quality.
This is a very important aspect of any video game, or indeed any product or item that is used. This game suffers from several issues, but a lot depends how the player uses the altered jump control. Some of these are fairly minor, such as freezing time. If the player jumps in the air, and simply holds the A button, the time will actually freeze as Mario's gravity defying long lost brother soars high above the screen. The player would have to wait for Mario's blue coverall-clad companion to fall, but it is straightforward on the most part. Sometimes the character may be a little hard to control where they lands, but it isn't a problem that can't be fixed with some practice. The jump control do have some real issues, but the biggest would have to be that after an extended jump, the player can't jump again for a brief second. This can, again, be remedied with practice but is extremely frustrating to players just getting into the game, as it can cause a lot of very cheap deaths. The game also crashes under a large number of circumstances, particularly jumping on certain enemies or collecting certain power ups. This can also be frustrating, but in a way it is like an old science experiment where the participant would respond to pain, and change their path of action.
That brief description of the changes and how they alters the game play sounds primarily negative, and it is. Nonetheless, this is a hack that has potential, and could easily provide a lot of fun to someone willing to put up with the initial frustrations and could easily turn this into a very fun game. This depends entirely on the player's patience and what they are willing to put up with. This is definitely a game worth checking out, but be warned that the limitations can cause frustration, but after all...limitations are the goals we seek to achieve, and beating this game is exactly that.

JUMPING MARIO HACK!   ostrich2248
This game is pretty fun, it's a mario hack where you can jump really high into the sky, though this isn;'t your average moonjumping game though.
Graphics: Not much to e said here, it's just the original Mario graphics. Sound: Also not much to be said, the music is just the original, like the graphics. Addictiveness: This game is pretty fun, I am quite likely to play this game, because you can jump from 1-Infinite ft in the air. Story: Still the original mario story, savin' the princess, not much really. Depth; Also not much, just expect this from the original. Difficulty: Pretty hard, I must say, but easier due to the fact you can jump 100000000ft in the air. Overall: I recommend this game to people who like jumping really high, that's all I have to say.

Pretty good.   TeketsuTenshi
My main issues with it are this:
I like the idea of making Mario blue, however when you get the fire flower the color scheme on Mario makes me want to barf, it's not good.
The music is sped up, this is really a minor issue but it annoys me. The cave theme doesn't sound as good when sped up.
I have absolutely no idea how to use the fire flower. I get it and I breathe a spark, I go onto the next level to find they go through the floor and then seem to go away as if they use ammo. Which, I guess you don't really NEED to use it considering you can just jump over everything (by the way, FASTEST WAY TO THE WARP ZONE, EVER!) just kind of annoys me.
Every time you jump really high and then try to land on a goomba (might work for other enemies, haven't really tried) it freezes up. This disappoints me because I was hoping I could jump over obstacles then drop down on my enemies like I'm a ninja, or batman.
Other than that it's a pretty good hack, it just has some minor things that annoy me that could use some work. Even so, it's a pretty good game and I'll be coming back to it to see how far I can get.

A sidegrade to the original.   Jim Profit
The original NES Super Mario Bros lives in most older gamers hearts as one of their first gaming experiences. Back then games were challenging and pretty much needed cheat codes if you were not a hardcore player or just wanted to mess around.
This game isn't bad, but a common mistake would be coming into it thinking the high jump is a built-in cheat, when in fact it's just an alteration to the meta-game. A big alteration, with a lot of smaller ones hidden underneath.
Graphics: 7.
Graphics are actually improved in my opinion. A brighter tone, and Mario's old blue and black suspenders like in the Atari Mario Bros.
Sound: 2.
The sound is strictly worse. Original NES Super Mario Bros had some fantastic sound, and this has butchered it was fast forward screeches.
Story: 1.
It's Mario. No story to speak of, but even less so as there's no real fluff for the high jump. Would have been kind of cool had it been incorporated as a permanent power-up Mario found.
Depth: 7.
While technically no stages have been altered or extended, the high jump does make it a lot easier to seek out warp zones.
Difficulty: 6.
About what I'd list the original Super Mario Bros. While you may be able to just swoop right through levels and all the difficult platforms, it could be a slow and painful time based death when you realize you can't complete it because you went up the blocks of Bowser's castle and now are breaking the fourth wall of walking among the timer and high score tables whilst Bowser is attacking air and you can't go back. I have not attempted to see if this effects the flags as well that if you go over them, then come down, you can't pull the flag down.
I do know many glitches previously existed in the game that I did not experience. No freezes, just gimped combat. The fact is high jump does make goomba stomping a bit more sloppy and prone to killing you. You won't be gathering as many coins, 1Ups, or fire flowers if you're busy just floating the entire time, and in some ways you'll need to float as your jump is less precise than it was as the original Super Mario. It's a monkey's paw of a trade-off and hardly in your favor.
Another thing I noticed was the fire balls have a very limp range. Fire flowers were amazing in the NES, and now you have to be so close to do anything, it'd be safer to just avoid them or goomba stomp them if possible. So fire flower serves no real purpose other then a slightly improved mushroom.
In closing, this game is not "easier" than the original, and I honestly think that was the hacker's intention all along. To just make it different. And show how much gameplay can change with a few alterations. As to which one is better... that's a hard question to answer. They both have their ups and downs in art vs sound, game mechanics. I guess what it really comes down too is do you want a game where the challenge is the hostile environment where everything is out to kill you, or do you want a game where the most dangerous thing is yourself and the hubris of your own high jump?
Whichever you choose, this hack of Mario is something a retro gamer or Mario fan is going to want to play, and I think they'll welcome the change where it's Mario who is his own worst enemy and you have to learn how to work with the power rather than just using it to survive and get past the newest koopa troopa.

Say Goodbye to Gravity - Mario Jump   OshawottRules64
This Rom is one heck of a theoretical ride that pretty much just gives zero thoughts about a little thing we call gravity.. Here in this hack, the only things you'll notice have changed are likely minimal. Mario's blue instead of red, the audio has a faster pacing to it, and the big elephant in the room: Mario says screw you to gravity and flies off! By holding the jump key Mario will ascend to the heavens and make pretty much almost all the levels impossible to fail at. You can skip over pretty much anything with the few exceptions of Bowser rooms, overshooting the flag, and mistiming your descent. Other than that, the game is a complete breeze to beat. This is where the shortcomings arrive, unfortunately. You see, with the fact that you can jump over everything means there's bare bones difficulty in the game and that really bums me out. I would have loved to see some kind of changed level design to be better suited for the jumping mechanic, but it's just Super Mario Brothers with zero G's given. This comes off as rather disappointing to my view. The game is also literally the same story so there's nothing to cover there. The music's faster pacing however is a fresh brew to bring into this world. I like the faster pace to give it a sense of wonder to how the hell Mario just FLIES OFF into the unknown. The classic style is the same as always, and like everyone says, "Don't fix what isn't broke." Truly, this is an interesting Rom to behold, but only for the first time playing. You'll get the gist of it pretty quickly and find it stupidly easy to win the entire game considering almost all of the levels aren't roofed. This comes off as a gigantic problem considering the failure in difficulty, the lack of depth and variety, and the story is pretty much just the same thing except Mario becomes superman for some reason. It was fun the first time, but it got old quickly. I apologize, but I have to give this game a 5.5, as it's only worth the first time playing in my eyes. Don't let my review stop you though. Go ahead and play it as many times as you want.

Mario Jump: Mario On The Moon   giveemagobfull
Hello there, this is giveemagobfull here, reviewing a hack of Super Mario Bros called Mario Jump.
Graphics: 5.. The graphics are just the same as Super Mario Bros, Mario just looks a bit different.
Sound: 5 again.. The sound is the same as well, just with a few pitch shifts here and there.
Addictiveness: 4.. The game is way too easy, seeing as Mario jumps so high, making the re-playability go down by a lot.
Story: 3.. The same as Super Mario... No plot about Mario getting spring shoes... No plot about the Mushroom Kingdom flying into space, making everything floaty....
Depth: 3.. As I said above, the game is way too easy, making it shorter to complete.
Difficulty: 2.. Because of how Mario (or random high-jumper) jumps too high, it makes it WAY too easy.
Overall: 4.5.. Overall, Mario Jump is too easy too complete, so in short, play this game for fun, not for the extremely overused story.
See you next time.
