Live A Live Game Description

In "Live a Live", you control seven main characters and play through seven different stories set in seven different time periods: prehistoric age, medieval Europe, feudal Japan, a futuristic world with robots and weird machines, etc. Those stories appear to have no common points, yet after completing all of them, you'll see they are in fact connected - the worlds of all those characters are threatened by the same ultimate evil force. The combat features many innovations compared to traditional console RPGs: your position on the battle field is important, and certain techniques can be used only from certain positions, and enemy attacks also affect only specific parts of the field. Out of the seven chapters, some have more battle-oriented gameplay, while others are more devoted to puzzle-solving and information-gathering.The game is one of the least known Squaresoft products, and was never released outside of Japan.

Live A Live Review by: Singelli - 9.8/10

Quite a Jewel

This game is absolutely fantastic!  There are basically seven different chapters in which you get to live varying lifestyles depending on the time frame that character is set in.  It's a game in which there aren't many options to deviate from the plot, but surprisingly the game style doesn't seem to be a set back at all.  Complete with basic crafting, battle, and leveling, this game keeps you interested!

While the music gets a little repetitive, it's easy enough to play with the sound muted.

Battle, in my opinion, was a bit too easy and is probably the biggest con of the game.  I didn't find many creatures or bosses to be a challenge, so battling was only done to gain items to craft with.  Even when outnumbered 10 enemies to one character, battle was a cinch and not something to be backed away from.  It's probably the only aspect I would like to see different in the game.

The writers also threw in tons of humor, so the story is fun to keep along with as you play.  I chuckled many times while playing, and those humorous blocks really helped keep me going.

This is definitely a fantastic game and one of my favorites that I've played on this site.  I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a game that's not much of a challenge.

Graphics (9):
The graphics were wonderful.  Clear cut with that zelda/ bomberman/ pokemon feel, while unique enough to really catch your eye.  The drawings are just adorable, and even the animations keep the player intrigued.  The little bits of plot thrown into actual play weren't overwhelmingly invasive, so there was enough time to really get into the game before a short clip played to continue the story line.  I looked forward to the little animations because they were so adorable.  Another thing that I really loved about the graphics were how colorful they were!  The colors were very bright and varied, adding to the aesthetics of the game.

Sound (7):
The music was both clear and catchy.  The only downside to the music was that it did NOT vary much, and became a little drab due to its redundancy.  However, the music did not subtract from the game if removed, so I simply cut it off when it became too repetitive.  The music was as clear as should be expected when compared to other games in the system.

Addictiveness (8):
I would not hesitate to play this game again.  Even though the story does not change, there are little secrets to discover if you like to find such gems.  The game was fun enough and creative enough that I would not mind going through the same places and donig the same things...  at least once.  I probably wouldn't play it over and over again though.

Story (9):
The story is adorable.  The writers loved to throw in humor and knew exactly what would be cute.  As I stated ealier, the story was not intrusive enough, either, to be annoying.  One of my favorite things, however, is how the stories are very subtley connected, allowing you to suspect that the stories are interrelated, without giving that fact away until the end.  Then, you get this big 'ah-ha!' moment when everything is brought together!

Depth (8):
There isn't much depth to the game.  Each character offers its own storyline and style of play, but the leveling and battling is done on very simplistic terms. You don't have to strategize much because of this.  It's basically a 'go around and kill things' type of game.

Difficulty (5):
This is certainly the biggest downfall of the game, and is only redeemed throught he comedic efforts of the characters:  The game is FAR too easy.  This is a game you play for story... not for challenge.  Characters leveled up quickly, you did not have to strategize what battling moves to keep or lose, and even crafting without recipes was pretty easy to figure out.  There weren't very many items that were REQUIRED to be crafted in order to keep playing or progressing through the story, either.

ON ninja level, the ghosts can be killed with the flame circle in one hit. You can grind here forever and never worry about dying. The basement of the storage area is best.

In the ninja period, if some are having trouble with the boss fights, like with the final trap master, use the scroll that casts the storm technique to easily destroy the traps, then, from there, always close to the boss, and keep using shinobi slash.
