The Legend of Zelda - Oracle of Ages Review by: Snowchu - 9.1/10

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

What is this review about, you say? A game called Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, reviewed by Snowdeath, which is me! The game is an installation to the GBA, from the Legend of Zelda series. Read on if you want to see my review.

First, information about the game… Oracle of Ages is a duo game, along with Oracle of Seasons, both released at the same time. Think this way… It’s similar to Pokémon games, Ruby to Sapphire, Black to White, Silver to Gold, etc. There’s nothing drastically different in both games, so don’t worry. Per usual, I will review this game as a GBA game, not to compare it to different consoles.

Graphics – 6

I see 6 as the low average score, and that is what I give to this game. It can give the game a certain kind of charm, but not enough for me to give it a higher score. The graphics itself are average. The colours are almost horrible, yet it makes Oracle of Ages its own charm, with old-dated looks, which some people loves to see in some type of games, and this is one of them.

SoundBLANK

(I’m completely deaf, so I cannot rate sounds in games.)

Addictiveness – 9

I swear Oracle of Ages just sucks you in even from the start to the end. Like almost all Legend of Zelda games, they have a certain quality that makes you just love them, no matter what. The gameplay literally keeps you playing, even when you get bored, and suddenly, you’re interested because a new objective starts up, or a dramatic boss fight randomly happens, and that list goes on.

Story – 8

It was really well thought out and played, even though Oracle of Ages wasn’t even on par with the other Legend of Zelda games. Oracle of Ages has its own world of mysteriousness and manipulations, which made me, give the storyline a great score.

Depth – 9

In the start, it was simplistic, and as usual, gradually got harder as the game progressed, but I find it to be slightly easy but also hard to be successful in Oracle of Ages. It was, however, extremely fun for me to try to navigate myself through the 8 essences and dungeons, defeat the mini-bosses and bosses, without having to rage-quit once!

Difficulty – 8

The controls are simple, and easy to get used to, and you’ll quickly master them in time, but I find the fact you have to press A and use up and down just to pick up a pot, unlike other Legend of Zelda games, where you can just pick them up anytime and break it easily. However, I’ve noticed that when you move, your hero character (Link) moves smoothly, like there’s no panels to stand in exactly each time you use the moving arrows. It’s a great thing to have in games, therefore the 8.

Overall – 9.1

Overall, Oracle of Ages is simply a game you must play to get that first-hand experience of this kind of games. It has a great storyline, okay graphics, but best of them all, low rage meter. This is actually my first game I didn’t have to quit on a boss for a bit, then come back, and quit on a later stage. I’m greatly impressed by this adept game. I didn’t expect it to have such a beautiful and smooth storyline and it did well for a distant land sub-story in the Legend of Zelda series.

In all, my experience playing this game was great. Addicting, enjoyable, and definitely fun in one game is a great combo, if you ask me. In case if you were wondering, I would definitely re-play this game sometime in the soon future, for ages

the second boss can be tricky, but if you stand on top of the right ladder you can throw bombs in his head without having to stand on the spinning blocks, then you just have to get used to the right timing so the bomb lands on the red face
