Kururin Paradise Featured Review

Kururin Paradise Review by: lolid23 - 8.4/10

An underrated video game that needs more love.
Perhaps this is the most underrated video game I will review so far, I think that EVEN Klonoa gets more attention than this game (and Kuru Kuru Kururin, of course), I think that one of the reasons why this game is really unpopular is the fact that it was only released in Japan...and Kuru Kuru Kururin, which came before this game (I think), was only released in Europe and Japan...in any case, This game is enjoyable, if I COULD (yeah, could) give this game a rating with a number, it probably would be a 8.4...to be honest, I don't like the idea of rating a video game with a number or a letter, I don't know why...at all, I think that's because the idea of rating a video game with a number is a bit...dumb to me (in fact, If you've seen my review of Snow Bros, you can see that I haven't given the game an overall rating)...I hope I didn't went a bit too far with that word...anyway, this review is a little special because...this is the first time I review a Japan exclusive video game :D...alright, here's the review!

Story: As I just said, this is the first time I review a japanese video game...that was only released in Japan, I have no idea about what the characters say in this game. The story maybe is something like...''you friends got kidnapped and you have to rescue them''...I don't really know, there are four different villains in the game and...well, if the story really is finding the villains and rescuing your friends, then, I have to say that it's not a great story...anyway, I don't have too much to say about the story, so...next aspect.

Addictiveness: I wouldn't really call this game a hidden gem, but I can't deny that this game is fun to me, the gameplay is simple: guide a flying vehicle (Heririn) through levels without touching the walls or obstacles, if you take damage three times, you lose, to win, just reach the goal at the end of the level. There are levels with more than 1 goal, if you go through the other way, behind a purple door (which can't be opened, unless you get a key first), you can reach the alternate goal, and if you manage to reach it, you unlock a secret route to another level. For the last fun aspect of this game, we have the fun mini-games, you have to win these mini-games in order to rescue another character, and all of the mini-games are REALLY enjoyable! I think that they can be more entertaining than the game itself...oh, I almost forgot, there are also some challenges that involve the normal gameplay of the game, but the difference is that you lose when you take damage two times, not three, unlike the story mode of the game.

Graphics: I don't have too much to say here, the graphics aren't spectacular, this game is not the worst looking Game Boy Advance game ever but...at the same time, it's not the most beautiful one.

Sound: The game contains some japanese voice clips which sound nice, but the effect sounds don't stand out, and the music...The music in this game sounds tends to sound catchy, but I can't say that it's the best music in a GBA (Game Boy Advance) video game, there are many GBA video games that have better music than this game, don't get me wrong, I like the music of this game but...I think that there are many video games with better music.

Depth: clearing every level from the story mode can be kind of fast, but the challenges make the fun last more time, it's not the most complete GBA video game but not the most empty video game either, the game really offers some things to do.

Difficulty: If it wasn't for the the first levels in this game, this number would have been a 10...this is one of those games that doesn't give trouble at first, but...as you continue, the game gets harder and harder, almost every level in this game can be finished in less than 1 minute (literally) but many levels, are so hard that you won't finish them right away, the mini-games that you play when you meet a villain are also hard, there were a few times where I had to STOP PLAYING because of the difficulty, and that's probably the only flaw of this game (probably): the game is too hard for it's own good.

If you are looking for a fun video game and a great challenge, this game is for you, there are video games that are more enjoyable out there, but this game is good enough to distract you for hours.

I cannot believe I've never played this game, I though Kururin (or whatever the blue bird is called...) only had one game on the Game Boy Advance, I guess I was wrong...
