adorableness on a cartridge   arwingstarfight..
When I was growing up in the suburbs of sydney, I was often babysat by an old friend of my mother and her teenage daughter, named Kimberly took me to her room to introduce me to a game that she would later give to me as a parting gift when I was returning to the state of Queensland and for 18 years and counting, I still have it in my possession today, I have held onto Kirby's dreamland for as long as I can remember. I was so young back then, but I remember it well and I always look back on it with fond remembrance. Today I will be reviewing Kirby's dream land and I want to dedicate this review to Kimberly, without her i never would have been a fan of Nintendo. So thank you Kimberly where ever you are. As always, I will begin with the story.
The Story: the story line in this game boy classic is very simplistic and easy to understand, King Dedede (or triple D as his henchman Esgargoon calls him a few times in the anime, kirby right back at ya ) has stolen dreamland's food all for himself, if nothing is done, the inhabitants of this peaceful world will starve but there is one inhabitant that King Dedede didn't count on throwing the proverbial wrench into his plans.
And his name is Kirby, who has the ability to inhale enemies into his mouth and spit them back at other enemies as a highly useful star projectile Kirby can also inflate his body so he can fly (bear in mind the concept of copying enemies abilities like bomb Kirby or sword Kirby do not make an appearance in this game as it was not thought of yet) Kirby makes his way through clouds and islands and makes his way to mount dedede to save his fellow dream landers from starvation and bring the greedy stuffed penguin down a few pegs, there isn't really that much to tell as far as Kirby's dream lands story is concerned but a simplistic story for a simplistic game makes a video game so easy to understand that a toddler could understand it and that's all I have to say for the video games plot, its not too bad and its not too long.
The graphics: being a game boy game, the graphics are monochromatic and simple but put it on a game boy colour or a game boy advance the whole graphical system gets a colourful overhaul but even before that i still loved this game and I still do now. the graphics, like the rest of this game boy classic are pretty simple and good to look at, the character and inanimate objects have lovely animation as they move like the bomb kids skipping as he gets ready to throw a bomb at the little puffball that Kirby is or the dancing of Kirby and his friends that he rescues after defeating the boss of each level. so there really isn't much more to say here, moving on shall we?
The sound: the sound is simple too but its just incredible to listen to. A few of Nintendo biggest music hits came from this game including the background music for Green Greens the boss music and of course the debut of the theme music for king dedede which is by far my favorite Kirby piece of music ever and it always will be. Period. The sound kirby makes when he's sucking in enemies is always going to be part of any player who plays this game. Sometimes I wonder if kirby is just going after the food for himself given his incredible appetite but I'm getting off track here.
A games soundtrack like this comes once in a blue moon. Its music and sound effects will always be there at the back of the mind of any video gamer who plays it, I know that it did for me, I can tell you that. Sometimes I would go to my old primary school as a young boy and hum some of those tracks like green greens and King dededes theme but enough about that its time to move on. the next topic will be the addictiveness. Lets go.
The addictiveness: as simple as this game is, it certainly makes up for it in addictiveness. As a child I could never put it down. one of the key elements that was a downer for the addicting part of the game, well that would be the short length of the game you could beat it in an hour maybe less. So that was a bit of a small disappointment for me but that was probably the only disappointment. If you could get around that slight little hiccup in this game, you will find yourself playing it again from time to time  but I digress so now  we move onto another topic about this game, the depth and its not much but there's still a bit that's in there
The depth: you know because this game doesn't have much being simplistic style in every category i have reviewed for this game, I don't think I can get my usual over 2000 words into this review. but the depth is quite small and again simplistic. but when you beat the main game you can see King Dedede throwing a temper tantrum. Heh the little diaper baby. while he's doing that, you are given instructions to press a certain combination of buttons on the title screen and when done correctly you will unlock a second game that's slightly harder but not by much (e.g some enemies are replaced by those sea urchin looking guys) but as usual this category will be as short and simple as the game itself. so now I will move on to the next category, the difficulty.
The difficulty: I'm not gonna waste much time on this one this game is one of the easiest games you will ever play even a 2 year old could finish it i have nothing more to say on it
and so I close another review my only regret is that its a lot shorter than my other reviews sorry guys I'll see you next game for now, Arwing starfighter signing off

Kirby's Dream Land review   Zircron Swift
Going way back to the first Kirby game in the series, Kirby's Dream Land featured a grey blob of some sorts to suck up enemies and spit them out. As it was on the Game Boy, no-one knew the true colour of Kirby. In fact, normally the game came out on the NES, and a similar game would come out on the Game Boy about a year later. Here, Kirby made his enterence on the Game Boy. He didn't get his trademark pink colour and copying abilites until his next game Kirby's Adventure, so it seems this game has some simple game play. Well, lets have a look.
You are greeted with a simple title screen with some music as you watch several Kirby's  walk on the screen. Even back then, multiple of Kirby's seemed to be on Nintendo's mind. The story is that King Dedede has stolen all the food in Dream Land for some midnight snack, and I guess you have to save all the food. How can one just "steal" all the food in an entire country if it's just for a midnight snack. Does he have a button that says "be a jerk", and every time he presses it, something different happens? I don't know. Shouldn't his people like......try and dethrone him if he's doing things like this? But I digress.
There are five levels, each area is a different place in Dream Land. As you venture though the game, you can suck up enemeies, and then spit them out as a star as a sort of attack. How the enemy becomes a star inside Kirby's mouth, I do not know. You can't fly when you have an enemy in your gob, so be careful. If no enemies are around, you can fly and in turn, you automatically suck up some air, in which you can use that as an attack. How enemies die by being breathed on, I do not know. Maybe Kirby is that powerful. So if I walk into them, that'll kill them as well, right *walks into an enemy and takes some damage*.....I thought wrong....But this attack is useful for those cute flying heads. Trying to suck them up will turn them into demonic beasts and will chace after you. They scared me by the element of surprise = (
The game allows you to enter some doors if you come across them, and in them might be some power-ups that will heal you. This can range from coffee to a tomato with a M on it. At some stage, you'll find a floating star in a level in which you can grab hold of. This will take you to the next part of the level. You'll often come across some guy in a bobble hat with no visable arms throwing bombs at you. You just defeat them and carry on. They're small time compared to what's up ahead. Every level features a boss. This can range to a tree with a face to a cloud with an eye.
The game has a fair bit to offer the player, even after you complete the game. Apon completion, you are given a code for a harder game. This just features less health, as far as I'm concerned. The enemy placements are the same and there seem to be the same amount of enemies. I  might not have been paying attention....Anyway, after you complete that harder version, what next? You'll have to complete it and find out! It's a farily short game, so you should do it wth out any problems, even though the game doesn't feature a saving ability.
The graphics are pretty good. I like how they used both sharp (such as the background) and smooth graphics (such as Whispy Woods) to create something pretty decent to look at. The animations in the sprites seems a little jagged, but that adds to the charm. They made 75% of everything really cute! For it's time, they sure did capture what was cute, and what could be scary......*Shivers*......Oh no, it's not spikes this time. I meant the scarfys. They really creep me out. To me, they are as bad as spikes. The music is a mixed bag to me. Some of it is catchy, while some of it is annoying. The boss music one one of the things they did right, setting the tone of battle rather nicely. The first level's music has to be a classic, though.
The difficulty is a tad easy to begin with. I found the first level a breeze, and I wasn't even trying. Later on, however, I did die a few times because the first level threw me off on the difficulty. After that, the game seemed overall normal, with the last two levels generally being more of a pain than the first three. The "increased" difficuly version is more of a challenge to me. Having less health makes me pay more attention to not getting hit all the time (even if you only have three bars to begin wth). Even though the game didn't support saving, it still held a score, which is odd, as every time you turn off the game, the score would reset itself. I wonder what their thinking was behind that? And why couldn't they add the save feature in the first place?
Overall, I give this game 7.7/10         The game was the first in the series, so you can't blame it much for that. What they did create was a fun side-scrolling game featuing a bunch of cute little things. The music (well, a little more than half of it) was quite well done and the graphics were fairly good to look at for a Game Boy game. The game play is rather simplified due to no powers being absorbed when you suck them up, but as it's the first game in the series, you know they'll add it to all future games. Even though the game play was pretty simple, it was the kind of simple that rivaled Mario, only a step further with flying. It's quite fun to pick up and play, with some good replay vaule.

The First Kirby Game   luigi25

The first Kirby game was Kirby's Dreamland released for the Gameboy in 1992. It is another platform game similar to Mario and Sonic. The gameplay is slightly different in the way that Kirby can inhale enemies and spit them at other enemies. He can also fly over certain areas which makes the game more interesting and fun than a lot of others. Although, this is a very short game without much content except for the Extra Game. The graphics for Kirby's Dreamland were also extraordinary considering this was an 8-bit Gameboy. I got to borrow this game from a couple of kids in my neighborhood sometime not long after it was released.

It had to be around the time I started 4th grade, and I had just gotten the Gameboy along with Tetris and Super Mario Land that summer for my 9th birthday. I enjoyed Kirby's Dreamland quite a lot, but I never had time to sit down and finish it. I did come close, and I liked how easy the gameplay was over Super Mario Land. The question is: do I still consider this game to be as good as it was back then?

Graphics 9/10: Even though the game is in black and white, Kirby's Dreamland still looks amazing. Everything including the sprites and backgrounds are full of detail. There was a lot of effort put into making this game look like no other game that had been previously released on the system. Several of these same sprites would appear again later that year in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Both games look fantastic on the black and white Gameboy, but Kirby's Dreamland was the one that got things going. The only downside is that the game is in black and white unless you play it on a Super Gameboy.

Music 10/10: Kirby's Dreamland also has some classic 8-bit Gameboy music. The track for the first stage would be played again and again throughout the Kirby series. King Dedede's theme is also very memorable. These two tracks are my favorite, but all the songs in this game are good. The soundtrack has a lot of variety, and all of it is good if not great. There isn't one dull or boring sounding song in the whole game. Just like with Super Mario Land, Kirby's Dreamland has some of the most memorable 8-bit Gameboy songs ever.

Gameplay 10/10: In Kirby's Dreamland, there is no time limit, you can take multiple hits, and even fly over certain parts of the game. As mentioned above, Kirby inhales his enemies and spits them at each other. In this game, he cannot copy their abilities like he can in the other Kirby games, but this still provides a great way to progress through the levels and fight the bosses. The way Kirby can fly over bottomless pits makes it easier to get to where you are trying to go. You can also play this game as long as you want because there are unlimited continues. I didn't like how there were no bonus levels or items to collect, but the mechanics of this game make it one worth playing.

Even though Kirby's Dreamland only has about 20 mins. worth of content, (unless you count the impossible to beat Extra Game) all of it is very original. All 5 levels offer different backgrounds and themes. The stages all look different and have their own boss for Kirby to fight. Kirby's Dreamland may be short, but the stages are still pretty creative with their own themes and bosses. It is a game that is easy to play but still offers some challenge to it. I never was able to defeat King Dedede when I played the game as a kid, and this was as far as I got.

Although now, I can beat Kirby's Dreamland pretty easily. Pressing the Up button makes Kirby float, and I like how he can swallow enemies and spit them at other enemies. This is similar to what Yoshi did in Super Mario World but probably better. In later Kirby games, Kirby could even copy the enemies' abilities after he swallowed them. The gameplay in this Kirby game is still pretty satisfying. The stages have variety and are fun to play, and the same goes for the mechanics of this game. It is simple and straightforward without being too easy.

Story 3/10: The story of Kirby's Dreamland is that King Dedede has stolen the food from the inhabitants of Dreamland. Kirby must get back the food and save Dreamland from King Dedede. That's really all there is to the plot of Kirby's Dreamland. It isn't very impressive and is one of the game's weaker points. It was pretty obvious that Nintendo was still experimenting with the characters and hadn't developed things very well yet. The storyline is always a problem in a lot of the first games in a series. These plots and characters aren't thought out very well to begin with. Although, in Kirby's Dreamland there is almost no storyline.

Content 2/10: Kirby's Dreamland consists of only 5 levels! They are: Green Greens, Castle Lololo, The Float Islands, The Bubbly Clouds, and Mt. Dedede. In Mt. Dedede (the game's final stage), Kirby has to fight all the game's bosses again until he can finally fight King Dedede himself and beat the game. The main part of Kirby's Dreamland just consists of these 5 levels which usually takes an average of about 15 to 20 mins. to complete for experienced players.

For me, this is the only part of the game worth playing, and I usually like to end it here without playing the frustrating Extra Game. That game is worthless and just amounts to re-playing the normal game with a ridiculous amount of difficulty! This is another downside to Kirby's Dreamland, and it really hurts the game. You don't have much content or storyline to this first game. It still isn't a bad game, but there isn't much to it.

Difficulty 3/10: Kirby's Dreamland was designed to be a pretty simple game. It is easy to pick up and learn the controls and mechanics. The gameplay is pretty smooth compared to a lot of other games on the Gameboy. Kirby can float over bottomless pits, and he can also use this ability to avoid enemy attacks. The bosses are pretty challenging, but once you learn their pattern, they're not that hard. Kirby's Dreamland has the right amount of challenge and difficulty. If I would have had more time with it when I was 9 years old, I would have beaten it. King Dedede was the hardest part, but he was the final boss which makes sense.

Overall 6.8/10: The first Kirby game isn't all that great of a game overall. It is a game that is lacking in plot and depth/content. The graphics are cool and so is the soundtrack, and it is a very fun game to play. It is easy but not too easy. Kirby's Dreamland never gets repetitive or dull, but it feels like it is over before it even begins! That is the most disappointing part of this game. Later on, Kirby's Adventure would be released on the NES, and that game did a lot more to develop the series better. This game was a start but is probably my least favorite.

Kirby's Dream Land   mlb789
There comes a time where the older games define what the series is to become.  Kirby's Dream Land defines exactly that.  While this game, unlike other Kirby games, encourages the tactical gaming approach the game offers a base for the next Kirby games to come.  Even you cannot swallow your enemies and steal their power the game is still very fun and exciting to play.  You start off as this little white blob that has the power that would make the strongest vacuum cleaner jealous of Kirby's power.  It's almost like Kirby is a little black hole that has come to save the world from the evil that lurks within the world.  With this amazing power, you have the ability to take an object or enemy, hold them in your mouth, and shoot them at another enemy to get the Kirby equivalent of a "double kill".  The levels of the game are very well made and formed especially when you get to the final boss level.  When you get to this level, you have to fight the four bosses again to get to the "final" boss.  This certain boss is by far the most tactically annoying, most painful boss I have ever faced in any game in a long time.  You have to find out his pattern, time your moves perfectly, and take down his absolutely huge amount of health (I believe you have to hit him at least 12 times to defeat him).  After you beat the final boss, the credits begin to roll and you seem to have beaten the game, unless you paid attention to the fact that after the main game there is a bonus game for you to take part in.  This bonus game thus adds much needed depth to the game.

Graphics 7:  The graphics in this game are about what you would expect from the first game in the series, but rises above some in the graphics department, thus receiving what some may call a "generous" seven.  If Hal Laboratory and Nintendo had focused a little more on the graphics, the score may have gone up a little more.

Sound 6:  In this game, the sound seems to be a little above average, but does not have any of those tunes that you remember forever like in The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon series.  Even though the electronics were not the best back then, there could have been a little better sound in the game.

Addictiveness 9:  This game is one of those games where I could almost never stop playing.  The only reasons I would stop my progress is if; a) I was being forced to do something by an adult or b) I had to go to bed or risk insomnia.  This game is very much one of the most addicting games on the Game Boy platform.  At first, you want to beat the first boss and then some amount of time passes and you are freaking out about having to re-beat the bosses again without any health restorations possible.

Story 9:  Some of you may say that there is not a story in this game, but I disagree.  It seems like the whole time you know that you will have to face this big boss in the end and that the little bosses are just warm-ups for the big bosses, when WHAM, they come back and try to block you from progressing further into the game.  Not only does this game also set up who Kirby is to be, it also sets up another character as an antagonist for the games to later come.

Depth 10:  Not only does this game contain the main story and a total of 9 boss fights over 5 (4 main plus stage with all bosses) levels, there is also a bonus game that comes with the game.  If you are talking in terms of depth, this game is very deep.

Difficulty 7:  This game is tough, but not extremely tough.  Even though you have to think tactically and decide when and where to move and hit things, there are points in the game where you will think this game is the easiest game ever (more notably in the first main level) and figure the game is a shoo-over.  Then the final boss hits you and you spend a long time on how to beat this monster with what seems like infinite health.

Overall, I will give this game a solid eight.  This game is one of the more tactically challenging games I have ever played, which made me rate it high.  If you like the idea of having to play a tactical game and challenge yourself, you should try out this game.

The first installment of this cute charming series.   RedHotToddy
Ah Kirby, who doesn't know Kirby? This pink marshmallow like creature has been around for about 20 years! And so because of that, I am going to review Kirby's very first adventure, Kirby's dream land for the original game boy! Does this adventure still hold up like It did back then? Let's find out!
Story-7/10
The main story behind this game is not explained in the game itself, But here It is, Kirby is relaxing one day in his beloved home dream land, But then one day his long time rival king dedede has decided to steal all of the food that remains in the dream land, It is now up to Kirby to save the day!
Gameplay-8/10
Kirby's dream land is a platformer, and a very out of the ordinary one as well, Well that is because the main character himself Kirby has the ability to swallow enemies and copy their abilities! Well in this game he doesn't, But in the next games he will, This was the first in the series, so there is always room for improvement! But anyways, In each level you control Kirby as you adventure through more then 5 big levels, defeating enemies and collecting a bunch of items as well.  At the end of each level you must fight a boss, now the bosses in Kirby games are quite challenging and will require alot of skill and strategy to defeat, but in the end they are pretty easy! If you are low on health, then collecting any of the food scattered in each level will replenish half of your life, Once you have now more health points, you lose a life, Lose all of your lives and It is game over, you will have the option to continue automatically, unlike games like sonic the hedgehog where you will have to collect a certain amount of rings in a special stage in order to earn a continue. Besides, 1-ups in the shape of Kirby an be found in all levels, anyways, that is the gameplay.
Graphics-7/10
As depicted on the box of the game, Kirby is rather white then pink in the later titles, Heck the original game boy itself Is black white itself, But anyways, the graphics in this game are really good for an original game boy game, all levels you will be exploring in the game are happy, bright, and so Kirby-like! As for the actual character sprites, they are really good as well! Kirby looks Ok, His enemies look Ok, King dedede looks ok, and so on! I know that the original game boy wasn't the most powerful system, It was still pretty awesome!
Sound-7/10
One thing that the Kirby games have been known for ever since day one, The soundtrack, all Kirby songs sound very bright, happy, cheerful, and always seem to fit the mood of each respective level! As for the sound effects, they are pretty good as well, You have Kirby's famous mouth open sound, you have his float sound effects, you have the sounds that his powers make, and so on. Never once has the music in Kirby games ever annoyed me!
Addictiveness-7/10
Kirby games always and I saw ALWAYS have that certain charm that will make you want to come back to them alot, And this is one of many, I remember always playing the game whenever I had to, and when I did, I just felt so much better then usual!
Depth-7/10
The game is pretty short itself, But It does have some stuff to come back to! The game itself is about 7 levels long, so it will probably take you 1-2 hours to beat the whole game. The other Kirby games have stuff like minigames, treasures, etc. But this was the first game, so there was room for improvement!
Difficulty-5/10
One of the game's low points, the difficulty level, As much as I was praising the game, The game is just somewhat too easy! I remembered dashing through the whole game with about 20 lives left, never having any problems at all! But at least the sequels are much more through in the difficulty curves.
Overall-9.2/10
This game is a must buy for Game boy owners! Nuff said, the game is so good that Kirby has been around for about 20 years! Let's just hope this guy the best in the future!

Kirbys Dream Land Review :)   G@mehe@d
Kirby's Dream Land, was released in August 1992 on the Game Boy and by 1995 sold 1.3 million copies.
You start out as a white circle, with arms and legs. I'm not kidding Kirby was actually white and grey. Look on the box, click 3D box art and you'll see a colorless Kirby. Anyway, in this game Kirby does not have his copy abilities which isn't that bad. In fact I find it easier to play when I'm not thinking about what weapon I want to get next.
The graphics for the game. Are very simple, there's really nothing special about them. There are some cut scenes for each level showing something unfortunate happen to Kirby.
The sound is great. The music is memorable and the sound effects don't sound weird like many 8-bit games. The sound, sounds like an NES game maybe even better.
Kirby's Dream Land, is very addicting and will keep you entertained for as long as the game lasts. Maybe you'll want to play again and beat your high score. I'm even thinking about giving myself time trials.
The story is simple. King Dedede steals all the food from the dream land inhabitants of dream land. Kirby a white and grey blob. Goes to bring the food back to Dream Land and he also goes to stop dedede from continuing his evil scheme.
This game doesn't have much to offer. There's only 5 levels :(. However there is a surprise in the end of the game. You'll find out once you beat the game.
Kirby's Dream Land is a great game for beginner gamers, because it's not very hard. The difficulty does pick up, but very slowly.
Overall- 8.9

A mediocre Kirby Game (Kirby's dreamland Review)   tornadocam
Kirby's Dreamland was the first Kirby game to hit the market. The game was released in 1992 or 1993 for Game Boy. Here is my take and review on Kirby's first game.
Story: 5
The story in Kirby's Dreamland was hilarious and kind of lame for a plot at the same time. King Dedede, king of Dreamland or so he thinks, wants to have a midnight snack. The king steals I kid you not all the food from the citizens of Dreamland. Kirby a resident decides he will go retrieve the food and save the day. Okay this is were the plot kind of gets lame. The main bad guy in this game steals food. Really, does a plot to the first Kirby game have to be this lame. Most villains in games try to take over the world such as Dr. Wily or Sigma do in the Mega Man games. Other games like Mario Bowser kidnaps Peach to hold her as a ransom while he takes over the Mushroom Kingdom. Even King Rool in the Donkey Kong games steals food but he does it to torture the Kongs and he wants to take over Donkey Kong Island. Here the main bad guy steals food. What was Hal Labs thinking by having the bad guy steal food just so he can have his midnight snack. This is why I think the plot suffers it does not have creativity. Hall could have had King Dedede not only still the food but try to take over Dreamland or something else. I gave the plot a middle rating because it is kind of funny that the main villain is stealing food to get his snack. Hey gotta have that midnight snack.
Graphics: 6
Okay the Graphics in this game were decent considering it is a Game Boy game. Some of the backgrounds do sparkle which is very nice. The stars in the backgrounds also shows that this game had potential. However, sometimes the graphics just seem to lag at times. The sprints were not the best in this game. The sprints of the enemies at times looked like they were out of whack. They were not as clear as they were in Kirby's Adventure or future Kirby Games. I do not know if that is because this was a Game Boy game or if the game was rushed. Also I noticed that sometimes it seemed like there was lagging in the game. I  noticed a few lags in the boss battles and some of the stages had a lag. The controls in this game were eh not the greatest but not as bad. Sometimes Kirby seems a sluggish especially in boss fights or during long levels. Other times the controls feel okay. I was kind of disappointed in the Graphics. I did not expect the graphics to blow me away but I was not expecting them to be flawed either. I have played game boy games that had very good graphics. So I was hoping this game would be well rounded but it was not I hate to say.  The background of the stages is what keeps this rating a middle of the road ratting. I really wanted to rate this game higher. In summary, the graphics were not horrible but not sharp or real good either.
Sound. 7
The sounds of this game were overall decent though they did have their problems. I really liked the beach theme and the garden theme in this game those were very nice. They also fit the worlds theme very nicely. Another good sound is when Kirby gets a power up and the tempo of the music speeds up that was a nice touch. I also think the sound when Kirby dies is funny. In fact, the sound of Kirby dying has become a staple in future Kirby games. However, the sounds of this game do have their problems. Sometimes it seems like other world's themes in this game tingle. Moreover, it sounds like sometimes the tempo gets out of rhythm too. The later worlds and the boss battles had this problem.  For some people tingling and out of rhythm do not bother people when it comes to music or sound. However I do not like tingling and I like music to have good rhythm to it. Also when Kirby gets hit by an enemy that sounds short of scratchy. I remember playing Kirby's Adventure and whenever Kirby got hit it was smooth. This game not so much. I do not know if this game was just rushed. I do not think it is because of the Game Boy I have played very good games on that system and the sounds were very good. In conclusion, I give the sound of this game a decent rating. The beach and garden world's theme in this game as well as Kirby's death sound really bump the rating up. The issues, the tingling, scratchiness, and out of rhythm tempo is what keeps this rating from being higher.
Addictiveness: 5
The replay value of this game is not as good as other Kirby games. Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Dreamland 2, Dreamland 3, and the Amazing Mirror all had high replay value. Compared to them I find myself playing this one the least. The other Kirby games are so much better and more fun to play. A few times I have gone back to this one simply because it was the first game. Moreover, it is nice to see were the whole series started. On the other hand, this game was not as fun compared to the others. I kind of had the feeling after I beat this one I wanted to go play the other Kirby games. So It was hard for me to rate this but I think a middle of the rating is about right.
Depth: 5
Here again is were Kirby's Dreamland suffers. The depth in this game was kind of low. The worlds are not that very long so its a short game to play through. There are no power ups in this game the player can take from enemies. The other Kirby games had a lot of special powers. Another thing is the worlds are not broken into stages and as stated they are very short. I was hoping this game would have been like the other Kirby games. When I first played this game I thought it would be like Kirby's adventure have lots of weapons and lots of stages. I was once again disappointed. Now, with the negatives being said time for a few positives. This game does have items to collect so that kind of helps the rating out a bit. So I give the depth of this game a middle rating.
Difficulty: 8
Kirby's dreamland really shines on how difficult the game is. Unlike other Kirby games now special powers are gained from eating enemies. That lack of ability makes fighting the bosses a pain. In future Kirby games they were hard but since you could have a special power you at least had a chance. Not in this game, it is so easy to get killed in the boss fights. The bosses have special abilities but Kirby does not. Also another thing that makes this game tough to beat is the enemy placement. A lot of times enemies hit sneak up on you hitting you behind. Other times enemies will gang up on you thus draining your health. Also, it is bad for enemies to drop down out of the sky without warning. Also the power ups they give you in this game do not last long. I remember dying quite a bit in this game especially when fighting the bosses. I like games that challenge your skill to beat. But this one does that but it is aggravating at the same time. So, Hal Labs made sure you would have a hard time beating this game.
Overall: 6.2
Okay here is the deal. I got this game at a discount long after it had come out. I had played the other Kirby games before I played this one. I was hoping this game would be like them. I didn't expect it to be sharp for one reason. The reason being first games in a series can be out of whack or really good. Mega Man one was a game that was out of whack but it was the first game. Mario Brothers one had its flaws. Then there are games like Donkey Kong Country that are very good. I was hoping this game would be good. This game does have some good points to it. The difficulty is good and part of the graphics are good. However, this game was flawed quite a bit. I am not saying this is a horrible game because it is not. On the other hand it is not a super good game either. I find this game to be Mediocre at best. It is nice to play this game just to see how far Kirby games have come. But as far as recommending this game its iffy. If you want a game to learn how Kirby works, and the special weapons. Than go play Kirby's Adventure as that game had very good controls and all the special weapons that have become staples in the series. If you want to just see how far the games have come than play this game. I play it a few times. But in conclusion I would recommend Kirby's Adventure over this one. Thankfully, Hall Labs learned from this game and made improvements in future games.

A Retro Review from RetroKid   retrokid12
Kirby's Dreamland. Where this fun franchise by Hal Laboratory started. For some series, they don't make very good first impressions, but Hal made an excellent first impression with Kirby. Now that we've had a brief history lesson, let's get started!
Graphics: 9
Of course, graphics back in the '90s weren't the best to some people, but I for one love myself a good classic game with classic graphics.
Sound: 10
Just like I love classic graphics, I love classic ol' chiptune. Some songs are happy and upbeat, some are just relaxing, and some are exciting. Also, the sound effects are great and aren't painful to listen to. I could listen to this game all day!
Addictiveness: 8
This game truly is addicting. I've played through it about three times, and I'm still ready for more. You see, ggames like this want you to keep playing through to get the highest score possible.
Story: 7
Okay, so a certain selfish little penguin named King Dedede, steals all the food in a place called Dreamland. Of course, someones gotta stand up to him! Adorable little white(pink in later games) puffball hops, floats, and inhales his way to beat 4 bosses to get to that non-flying bird tyrant and teach him a lesson! So, not bad, original, but not the best story I've ever heard.
Depth: 4
The only low rating I'll ever give this game. The game is short. Only 5 levels, one of which just being a boss. There are a few powerups that you can inhale and spit out, and one you use to fight one of the bosses. The most side things you can do are optional doors you can go through for health, but that's about it.
Difficulty: 3
This game is pretty easy. I usually play through only dying once. But it is still very fun.
Final Verdict: 9
Savory Gameboy graphics, sweet sound that is easy on the ears, quite deliciously addictiveness, a tasty story, depth is a little bitter, and the difficulty won't burn your tongue, so have a good time playing this one!

Kirby's Dream Land Cheat Codes

Configuration mode:
Press Down + Select + B at the title screen. Options for the number of lives, sound test, and other selections will be accessible.

Hard mode:
Press Up + Select + A at the title screen. A special game with additional enemies and a new ending will begin.

Bonus game:
Hold Up + A + Select when the word "Start" appears at the title screen.

Hint: See Rick the Hamster:
Enable the "Hard mode" code and begin the game. When you get to the King DeDeDe level (level 5), you should see various doors with pictures on them. There are four different levels that you must complete before you can fight King DeDeDe. When you complete the first level by defeating the Boss at the end, it will seem as if the game freezes before you get back to the room. Press Up. Do this again with the second level, except this time pressing Right. Keep doing this in a clockwise order (in order from level one to level four: Up, Right, Down, Left) until you have completed all of the levels except for the King DeDeDe battle. When you defeat King DeDeDe and get to the screen where the different Kirbys are surrounding the main Kirby on a podium, you should see Rick the Hamster in the crowd of Kirbys.

it actually not debug, cause you don't change the level, just your beginning lives and health, plus you access sound test in there. P.S it is down, X, and backspace to be more descriptive to keyboards
