Galaga: Destination Earth GBC Game Review

Galaga: Destination Earth Game Review

Hello Everyone It’s ExciteBikeFan14 Again, With a Game Review for Galaga: Destination Earth for The Game Boy Color. Galaga: Destination Earth is a game part of the popular Galaxian arcade series of games from Namco. There was also a PlayStation version of the same game but today it’s all about the Game Boy Color version. So let’s jump into the game.

Game Overview

In Galaga: Destination Earth the objective is very similar to the arcade predecessors. By using your space ship, the objective is to blast all the aliens (or galaga in this case) to go on to the next level. But in this game you’ll have to complete a series of waves in order to get to the next round. The game features a counter showing you how many aliens are in the wave that you need to get rid of. The counter for how many galaga are there is shown at the left of the screen. I thought that is a very good thing instead of trying to count all the galaga that are left on the screen. Also your life count is shown just like in any other video game. When your ship gets blasted by one of the galaga, you’ll lose a life. Lose all of your lives and the game is over. But if you do make a high enough score, you can enter your initials in the game’s in game high score leader board. There is also a chance to earn more lives by earning a specific amount of points. When you get rid of the galaga that are on the screen you’ll earn points and even power ups that will show up in green and fall to the bottom of the screen. Move your space ship to catch the power-up and you’ll upgrade your laser for a limited amount of time. Some of the galaga need to be blasted twice in order to destroy them. There is also a 2 player mode via Game Boy Color Link but both players need the game in each individual system and one link cable in order to play that mode.

Graphics

The Graphics in Galaga: Destination Earth Are Really Impressive on The Game Boy Color, Especially With The Space Backgrounds. The Galaga are either in 1 or 2 colors but it’s perfectly fine. The Graphics Get A 9/10 Rating.

Music & Sound FX

The Music in the game is very great especially the stage clear theme when you blasted all of the galaga off the screen. It makes you feel happy that you cleared the stage and have the courage to clear the next one. This section of the game gets a rating of 10/10.

Replay Value

Since Its Part of the Galaxian series of games, you’ll have that classic feel of Galaxian and Galaga and want to play it again and again. Even if you beat the game you’ll never want to stop experiencing that nostalgic arcade feel. The replay value gets a 10 rating.

Game Story

The Story of the game is to destroy the Galaga race and save earth from total destruction. I thought that it’s an exciting story making this and other space themed games fun to play. The story gets a rating of 10/10

Game Depth

Even though the game only features a single and 2 player mode it still has enough levels plus a high score board to keep you playing. The Depth of the game gets a rating of 3.

Difficulty

The difficulty of the game has the same “easy level” game play controls like the game’s predecessors. Just Move left and right on the D-pad and press A to fire. Some of the stages could get hard at times but with some practice and confidence, you’ll beat the game. The Game Gets A Difficulty of 1.

Final Words

Galaga: Destination Earth is a fresh take on the Galaxian series of arcade games. Even though some of the art on the Game Boy Color version may have limited colors, it still has that nostalgic feel and easy to learn and remember control scheme. The Game overall gets a 10/10 Rating.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more reviews!

It's like they spent so much time making the background look cool they forgot to make a good game lol
Jordanv78 03-21-13 - 07:43 PM
The levels are so short. I mean I played like 6 waves and it was the same two mosters for each wave. Shoot two small groups and you are done lol.
