Freedom Planet Review by: Lexatom - 9.4/10

Freedom Planet Review: MERICA!?
Freedom Planet's gameplay might remind you of both Sonic and Mega Man. Freedom Planet was inspired by the original Sonic games. It was released on Steam on July 21, 2014, and was released for Wii U on October 1, 2015. Many critics praised this game and it is known as a must-buy for many people. how good really is this game?

Graphics - 9
Freedom Planet uses graphics reminiscent of the 16-bit era. Each pixel comes together to form many different objects/characters, and they all look absolutely amazing. There's not really much else that can be said about this category besides a small problem I see very rarely. Sometimes some of the enemies look so odd that part of them merges in with the background it seems like. This is a very minor thing that rarely happens and it's hardly noticeable in the first place, so I'll excuse it.

Sound - 10
This game has the best soundtrack I have heard in any game. I'm being serious. I don't exactly know WHY this is, but it is. Just look up any song that plays in the game, and you'll eventually find a song that you'll end up listening to for 30+ minutes. I think my favorite song in the soundtrack is the song that plays when you fight Prince Dail. The music perfectly matches with the scene/character every single time, and I absolutely love it to death.

Addictiveness - 10
Surprisingly, this is one of the few games I come back to no matter how pissed I am at it. Whenever I get really angry at a game, I usually don't touch it for a while. I come back to Freedom Planet in like an hour or two. It's that good. I remember dying at the last level a total of 12 times. I didn't stop, though. I kept going. I actually felt the need to kick this guy's butt.

Story - 10
Before we get through this section, I feel the need to state something. If I summarize the whole story right here, it will be the equivalent of a whole page. So I'm only going to summarize the basics. Lilac (the main character) and Carol (the sidekick) rescue someone named Torque, who crashed their ship in an area near their home. They find out more about what's going on, and eventually the very thing that their world relies on for power and life is stolen from them by Lord Brevon. Things unravel and the plot thickens as the game progresses, and it is very interesting. I want more.

Depth - 8
Here's the section where I think the game is lacking just a bit. It only took me around 134 minutes to beat this game. Then again, I was on Easy mode, but still. There are various collectibles that can be found in each level of the game, as well as various achievements that are unlocked in-game. There are also 3 playable characters with slightly different level routes, although their level route doesn't differ from each other all that much. There's still plenty to do to satisfy me, I just wish there was a bit more.

Difficulty - 8
Most games that are inspired by other classic games tend to be difficult, and this game is no exception. This game has different difficulty modes, but even with Easy, you're going to lose several lives. The bosses are very well-designed and do a great job of making sure you lose at least one life. This game, in my opinion, has the best difficulty rise out of any game. I like games where they get more difficult to closer you are to the end, and this game does that wonderfully.

Overall - 9.4

Freedom Planet isn't my favorite game of all time. However, I think it is better than all of the classic Sonic games. I feel emotionally connected with the characters in this game, which something I love when video games do that. Those people who say Freedom Planet is a must get? They are absolutely right, you must get this game eventually. A sequel is planned for release sometime this year, and I am highly looking forward to it. I wish this review could have been longer, but since it's a sort of short game, there's not a whole lot to talk about. There is just enough to fit all that story and emotion in it, though. Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

Freedom Planet Game Description

Fight your way across the celestial world of Avalice where cats are green, motorcycles drive up walls and monster girls do most of the buttkicking! Freedom Planet is a cartoony, combat-based platform adventure that pits a spunky dragonoid and her friends against an alien attack force.
• As Lilac, you can whip enemies with your hair or use the Dragon Boost to fly through the air at high speed like a comet.
• As Carol, you can bust through foes with a flurry of punches and kicks or summon a motorcycle that lets you ride up walls and ceilings.
• As Milla, you can summon blocks to throw at enemies or reflect their attacks back at them with a psychic shield.

Help Lilac and friends save their world from war in an engaging Adventure mode with fully voiced cutscenes, or skip the fluff and play each stage in order with Classic mode. Do you have what it takes to save Avalice from the wrath of Lord Brevon and his robotic minions?
