Fighting Hero Featured Review

Fighting Hero Review by: NovemberJoy - 0.1/10

There's nothing heroic about this game, but it sure is a FIGHT!
Technically, Street Fighter is a mediocre game on its own. But what happens when pirates take the game and try to make their own ripoff of Street Fighter? You get Fighting Hero. How does the game fare? Look and see...

The graphics look lazy and uninspired, and Leon(a ripoff of Ryu) barely looks like a human being - he's too bright and shiny, like some kind of android or robot. Also, the fighters look NOTHING like their arcade counterparts. In fact, I'd say they didn't even try...which is probably a good thing.

The music and sound isn't too great. The music is somewhat annoying, the sound effects aren't especially good on the ear, but that's not why it got a 3. The 3 was because of the music that plays when you get a game over - you have to see it to believe it. And you can't skip it, either.

The gameplay, of course, makes or breaks the game. In this case, it breaks the game, and you'll probably wish it would literally break the game.

There's two different game modes - a 1-player mode and a 2-player mode. Of course, you probably won't be able to find another person who will sit through an entire match of this game with you.

When you select the 1-player mode, you are taken to a stage-select screen, where you choose which stage you want to play by attacking one of the clay pots in the air. Of course, you have to jump to hit them, and here's where the biggest problem with the game lies. The controls are so broken and awkward that it's basically almost impossible to break one of these clay pots, so imagine trying to fight an enemy like this.

In all actuality, to attack in mid-air, you have to jump straight up(you can't attack in mid-air if you jump towards the left or right),  but you have to have pressed the button for which attack you wanted to do and then have jumped straight up into the air, because the buttons won't respond while you're in mid-air. Again, I reiterate, imagine fighting an enemy with these controls.

There is more to explain about the controls, of course. If you try to attack, you have to press the button just right to do the attack you want. If you don't press it hard enough, it won't perform the full attack, and if you press it too hard, it won't attack until you lift your finger from the button.

After you hit one of the clay pots, if you don't shut it off in disgust from the broken controls, you'll go to one of four different levels:Asia, Europe, Africa, or Australia. Each one has a different enemy to fight - and here's where another problem comes up. All of the enemies are much more powerful than you, and don't have the limitations of the controls. While the special moves from Street Fighter are still in the game, I dare you to actually perform them during a fight. If you can actually do this, you get a seal of approval from me.

So, I decide to go to Asia, and I end up in a desert fighting a guy named Billy who looks like Osama Bin Laden dressed up in blue robes. He wields a boomerang and a...stick, and can actually attack while jumping to the side. In other words, the AI is cheating. Joy.

It's hard to beat the guy, though his stick is shorter-range than your kicks, mainly because of (what else?)the controls. I forgot to mention this, but Leon moves like he's paralyzed, while the enemies can just walk at a normal pace, which is about two or three times faster than Leon's slow movement. With such disabilities, you'd think he shouldn't even be fighting! So, either you can jump about ten feet, or move on the ground(I'm not even going to call it walking) at the speed of an old man in a wheelchair.

I notice something while fighting Billy, and that's the fact that my attacks are doing next to no damage to him, while he can take away a chunk of my life bar with just one hit! The problem there is that your attacks vary in power - and I was using the weakest ones, which are the normal and ducking punches and kicks.

What made the battle even harder is that the collision detection is horrible. You can't hit an enemy if you're too close - yet the enemies never seem to have this problem. The slow movement just makes it that much worse.

As for the more powerful attacks, they include the jumping attacks, which I already explained how ineffective they are, and strong attacks. To actually perform a strong attack, you have to hold down either the punch button or the kick button for a second, and release it to perform a more powerful version of said attack. The problem is that you can't move about while holding the button, since the game can't comprehend more than one button being pushed at a time. It's obvious how this is a problem, right?

Due to all of this, it's almost impossible to win even one round, much less make much real progress. Knowing my entire arsenal of moves helped, but it was still really difficult. I mostly exploited the stupid AI to get Billy stuck in a rut of jumping towards me, and getting knocked back by a roundhouse kick.

I actually managed to beat Billy, and instead of being taken back to the stage select screen with Billy's stage removed, the game just decided to pit me against the most powerful character in the game besides the final boss:Alex. He can literally kill you in three seconds, due to his cheap high-damage body slam attack. I can't imagine actually trying to beat this game...

The other two enemies I neglected to mention are Vic, who has a somersault attack and looks like Mr. Clean, and Masa the ninja, who constantly teleports away from you and throws shuriken at you.

All in all, this is a really horrible fighting game, and probably the only fighting game I've found that's worse than Slaughter Sport. Yes, I'm serious, Slaughter Sport is better than this garbage. Then again, both games are garbage - Slaughter Sport at least has somewhat manageable controls and a partially fair difficulty curve. This game has nothing.

=Mediocre graphics
-Seriously, what's with shiny Leon?
-Horrific controls
-Unfair balance
-Cheap, yet stupid AI
-Annoying music
