F-Zero's finest moment   gamerforlifefor..
I've got a question for you, what do you get when you combine a futuristic racing game and a heavy metal soundtrack? Do you give up? If so, the answer is F-Zero X! Years after the success of the 1st F-Zero game on the SNES, Nintendo decided that they'd make a new game for the series in 3d on the Nintendo 64. The game was released in 1998 and it got positive reviews from the critics. But I think the better question is, what do I think about F-Zero X? Well I'll tell you what how I feel about the game by making this review.
Graphics: 7/10 As I said earlier, this was the F-Zero series' transition from 2d to 3d. Graphically it could've been better, however the track designs are very nice though. One example of this is the part in Big Blue where you're racing on a pipeline and you can race on top, on the side, and upside down, which I think is very interesting, but the backgrounds of the races could've been better though. If you look at other racing games at the time such as Mario Kart 64 and Crash Team Racing. The tracks in those games had fantastic looking backgrounds for their time, while F-Zero X falters in this aspect. The graphics in this game could've been better, but regardless, F-Zero X is a good looking racing game for it's time, therefore I'm giving the graphics a 7.
Sound: 10/10 F-Zero X has the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a racing game. There's a lot of heavy metal and hard rock music in the game, which really sets the mood of a racing game that's as intense and fast paced as F-Zero X is. There's nothing quite like listening to Dream Chaser and Endless Challenge to get you pumped up while racing on a high speed race track against a large number of opponents standing in your way of victory. Along with the epic soundtrack, the sound effects are also superb. The vehicles sound the way you'd expect a futuristic hovering vehicle to sound. The unbelievable soundtrack and great sound effects are perfect reasons for me to give the sound category a 10!
Addictiveness: 10/10 As far as futuristic racing games go, there are few games that come close to being as addicting and exciting to play as F-Zero X. One reason I feel this way is because of the large amount of racers that you compete against. There are a total of 30 racers including yourself on the track at the same time, and you must find a way to get past this insane amount of drivers to win. This combined with the ingenious track design make F-Zero X one of the most enjoyable racing games I've ever played. The tracks have everything from  loops to tubes and even ramps which can be used to glide in the air to reach another section of the track. All of these aspects give this game massive replayability. Also there's a very unique game mode called death race which I'll talk about later. All of these aspects make F-Zero X a perfect racing game for any gamer looking for some serious excitement. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 10.
Story: N/A Since F-Zero X doesn't have a story, I've decided to leave this category blank.
Depth: 10/10
There are 5 game modes in F-Zero X. The first being GP race: which is where you try to win each race in a cup. There's Jack, Queen, King, and the Joker cup, and the X Cup. Each cup has 6 races to complete (though the X Cup gives you 6 completely random races) and can be played on 4 difficulty modes: Novice, Standard, Expert, and Master. The GP alone will keep you busy for a very long time. Along with GP race, there's Practice: which allows you to race on any track with opponents, Time Attack, which is this game's time trial mode, VS mode: which is this game's multiplayer mode, and then there's death race. In death race, your goal is to annihilate 29 racers as quickly as possible. You have an unlimited amount of laps to work with, so you can either pummel them as quickly as you can, or you can take your time and make sure that you don't do something that will cause you to wreck. Either way, this mode also gives the game even more depth than it already has. In addition to these game modes, there are a total of 24 tracks for you to race on, which only adds to this game's depth. With all of these fantastic tracks and game modes to choose from, you'll be playing F-Zero X for a long time. For that reason, I'm giving the depth a 10.
Difficulty: 9/10 F- Zero is very tough game to master. With all the tracks you need to memorize and all the difficulty modes you need to master, F-Zero X is no walk in the park. You also need to make sure you don't bump the walls very much because the more you bump into walls and other drivers, the more energy you'll drain. If you lose all your energy or fly off the track, your vehicle will crash, and you'll lose the race. F-Zero X takes some serious skill especially when your playing on the game's higher difficulty levels. Because of how tough this game can be, I'm giving the difficulty a 9.
Overall Score: 9.5/10 F-Zero X is one of the best racing games I've ever played. With a fantastic soundtrack that will pump you up for any race, combined with it's incredibly smooth gameplay, it's large amount of races and it's huge amount of depth make F Zero X an epic racing game that all fans of the racing genre should try out, even though the graphics could've been better. Overall I give F Zero X a 9.5. If it weren't for the less than stellar graphics, I would've given the game a perfect score.

In the name of speed   EX Palen
-Tour Guide: Welcome to the 26th century, stranger of the past. As you can see, there are many things that have changed since your time, although we still retain some aspects of your era.
-Me: Yes, I notice. In here, cars have improved into space ships that can go beyond the speed of sound, and it's possible to visit other planets and live in them. The city I know as New York has grown into what is now... Mute City, that's it. I also notice that some things haven't changed, like samurais wielding katanas, but that's not a bad thing, we also have a lot of freaks. It's sad, however, that we haven't changed our mindset and conquer any planet we visit, even if it's for the sake of a GP circuit, like in Silence.
That would be my reaction if I ever entered the world of F-Zero. The next question I would ask would be: why building those circuits when we have Nordschleife, Indianapolis and Monza, just to say some? Well, Indianapolis has been rebuilt in Silence, but it's not the same, you know.
But let's get back to the present. I'm here to review this game, so let's get going.
Graphics... I don't remember where I once read that graphics had to be sacrificed in order to keep the game running with 30 machines racing at the same time. Sincerely, guys, I find little to no differences between this game's graphics and its sequel's, F-Zero GX, graphics. Well, maybe the machines are more stylized and the track's environment is more detailed, but that's to be expected due to the higher technical capacity of the newer console. I don't believe that they sacrificed better graphics, they are already the best ones I've found in N64. The correct comparison would be with WipeOut, the main rival to this series. WipeOut 64 isn't bad on graphics either, but the environment of the tracks isn't the same as here. Pretty justified why graphics earn a 10.
Sound... True, it has the themes for New Yo... I mean Mute City, and Big Blue, but after these, the game shifts towards heavy rock songs. Although they are good, because they have some connection to adrenaline, and therefore, speed, it doesn't cope with the aforementioned themes. Following the comparison with WipeOut, well. let's just say that WipeOut at least tried. Sound gets a 9.
Addictiveness... Well, a great game like this increases the addictiveness by itself. Even so, the variety of cups, machines and game modes allow for a lot of combinations and challenges to beat. Addictiveness receives an 8.
Story... There's nothing to say here, since the only goal of the game is to win all cups in all difficulties, with no plot whatsoever behind them.
Depth... Four cups to beat, with six circuits each, and four difficulties, makes a total of 96 races. Not bad at all. If we add the fifth cup, which generates a random amount of races each time you play it, the total easily gets over 100 races. Multiply it for 30, the number of available machines. OVER 3000 RACES! And we are still in Grand Prix Mode. Practice doesn't mean anything here, the same as VS Battle, but the other two modes do mean something. Time attack  let's you race against the clock in all 24 races, and you have 30 machines to select, meaning that you can make up to... 720 races! And finally, Death Race, which, if made with all 30 machines, means 30 more races to add to the striking total of nearly 4000 races you can do. Any category of motorsport, in real life, hardly surpasses 20 races per season, so that means that, to complete that astronomical number of races, you would need... MORE THAN 2 LIFETIMES DEDICATED TO MOTORSPORT!!!! But let's be honest, you won't select all machines. Everyone has it's own style, and it's nearly impossible to master all styles. Some can't control a machine that slides so much, or that it is slower than a snail. Even then, the number of races is still exaggerated. This is why depth earns a 10.
Difficulty... We can distinguish two categories. The tracks' difficulty and the CPU's. For the tracks, well, they range between fully delimited ovals and tight chicanes with not delimited sections. Big Hand, for example, has a bunch of tight corners with the "straight" section having no boundaries and even ice. Rainbow Road (or San Francisco Road, as I like to call it due to the constant ups and downs) is another example of high speed straights, even jumps, not delimited by boundaries. Mental, but not ridiculous as the CPU's difficulty. I don't mean ridiculous for easy, but because the faster you go, the faster the CPU goes. Yes, guys, the CPU will always catch up, doesn't matter how fast you go, they will go faster than you. Managing the times where the CPU speeds up is the key to victory, aside to keep up regular lap times so the CPU doesn't go ahead for too long. Also, since you only rely on your driving skills, your knowledge of the circuit and your machine, because there are no weapons, it's a complete challenge to constantly beat up a faster machine. This ridiculous point of going faster than you no matter what lowers the rating for difficulty to 9.
Summarizing, a challenging game with very good sound and graphics that sadly hasn't seen another release since 2004. If it was made available for the Virtual Console, a sign of this series' popularity, why don't they release new games? Nintendo, please, stop making strange Pokemon and head back to the way of greatness, F-Zero would be a good starting point.

FZERO X (N64)   xXLoneWolfZz
Solid gameplay, mild storyline and fender-bender style combat is what the F-Zero franchise is made of. F-Zero X fall nowhere short of that expectation.
One of the greatest racers of its time, F-Zero X shows what an N64 is really capable of. Smooth, yet frantic gameplay, along with decent graphics (though at the speeds in the game you wont have much time to indulge in the scenery) and an amazing framerate, keeping in mind the system would have to account for 30 individual racers at lightning fast speeds.
Overall, F-Zero X is an amazing game of it's time, and will not disappoint, either newcomers or returning fans

F-ZERO X   Totts
Strap on your seatbelts and get ready for futuristic racing with Nintendo’s vision of futuristic death racing in F-Zero X on the Nintendo N64 console gaming machine.
This game is a sequel to F-Zero on the Super Nintendo, which in my opinion was an okay but pretty average racer from the early days of the Super Nintendo, thankfully the Nintendo's N64 game is a lot more fun, with 30 cars, twists, loops, jumps and boosts.
The obvious comparison is with Wipeout by Sony -Psygnosis’ foray into the world of futuristic racing. Or should that be Sony - Psygnosis’ foray into the world of getting the homing missiles and blasting people into oblivion. Sure, it’s a lot prettier graphically, but as I sat down with Wipeout 2097 and unlocked everything in 2 hours using a combination of missiles, missiles and more missiles I became bored with it. With F-Zero’s tricky corners, however, you have to be actually (shock horror) good at moving the joystick from left to right, control wise alone therefore this game wipes the floor with Sony’s offering.
Anyway, this is not about Wipeout, it’s about F-Zero. There are four trophies and 3 difficulty levels, all of which have to be completed to unlock all 30 racers, an extra difficulty level, and “The X Cup”, which is randomly generated tracks of ovals or with unworkable corners that eliminate everybody from the course. Providing you don’t crash and run out of energy, you progress to the next race with points and grid position based on your previous race. Whoever has the most point at the end of the six races wins. Simple.
Surprisingly, the multiplayer isn’t bad either. The cars are reduced to 4, and any car eliminated gets control of a slot machine, that can affect the other drivers still in the race. I know they have to reduce the racers due to memory constraints so the slot machine is an interesting feature.
The single player game, however, unlike in Mario Kart, outshines the multiplayer. Thirty cars who jostle and weave past each other vying for the number one spot on some of the most impressive tracks ever seen. It’s supremely fun and you’ll come back to it again and again, but you’ll have to as later difficulty levels are so hard you will have to wear a metallic pair of underpants to stop the arse kicking you’ll repeatedly receive.
That’s a pain though, as it seems that later levels revert to a classic “lets make all other cars faster than you rather than better than you” Nintendo Trick seen in the likes of Mario Kart also, so much so that the only way to win is to brutally run your rival off the track so they get zero points and you get a decent amount.
However, like Mario Kart on the N64, this can be forgiven like any great game. It’s fun, it’s fast, it’s dirty, and well worth playing by anybody who wants a decent futuristic racer.

My best memories/review of the game   benjaminscottsia
F ZERO X is one of my all time favorite game of history for the N(64). The game it's self is one of the greatest games of the ages. I remember when I use to have the game for Nintendo 64 and play it every chance I got. I can't believe how long it's been since I played this game. The ending is the best part to me; getting fame and glory and watching your characters face be shot into the sky and you of all people being named number one for winning the race. The level of difficulty can only be justified by this, the way that the controls are set up for keyboard makes it kind of difficult to achieve maximum wins to losses, due to the fact that some keyboards can't handle more then a few simple keys which makes it difficult to use your attacks, but that is OK because I can handle it. The game goes so in depth with how you win who you can be and the different stage s there are to choose to race upon. This game is very addictive and hard to mild to me. I will keep playing this game for ever, that's how much I love this game. The games sound is not very bad at all it lags a lot thought on start up and when playing the game in general but to me the games music is one of the best I ever heard. The graphics are great considering being on an N(64) it is some of the best graphic play I have experienced; I can't believe how detailed they have got with almost all of the cars/ships. I am very proud how they have made most and many of the race tracks. In general this is the best game I have played. I can remember one time when I was playing this for N(64) I had just got done beating the game and had decided to mess around with who I should use as the playable character and what track to race on. When I was starting to start the race I was racing, in the middle of the race my baby brother had took out the N(64) cartridge and I had forgot to save my data. I tried to hurry up and turn the system back on but by the time I had started up the game to checked what I have won, my baby brother had took out the cartridge again. I got so furious I turned it one more time and check what I one and had realized that I lost all my saved data I was so mad. This was the best memoir of me playing the game and losing my data.

You've got Boost Power!   MitsuriZX
F-Zero X is a game for the strong-hearted,it is a game about competition,a game about rivalry,a game about tight curves and deadly pits.
In this game, there are no second chances. Once you start playing, you will not stop. Your fingers will melt and your brain will overload, this is a game as unforgiving as they come. But the rewards that await you are much more than expected.
30 Racers,a ton of new tracks, and the challenging X-Cup. You'll have to carefully manage your car's perfomance in order to win. Which one is better,Speed or Acceleration? You'll have to decide. But for each track, your decisions will surely not be the same. Falling off a track is a instant disqualification, and you don't want that. Once you make your first lap,you will get access to the incredible Boost, which will increase your chances of winning the race. But be careful, using the incredible Boost will sap your energy bar,and once it's completely empty, your vehicle will crash and blow into pieces. And that's not good. Accuracy and Control are key in this game.
Are you up for the challenge? Gear up and get ready for the most exciting event in the entire universe : The F-Zero Cup!

F-Zero X Is a great game.   Magma_Cube
F-Zero X Is one of the best racing games.though more than need for speed ( nfs ) which is an victory of power. One of the best N64 Themes. My favourite part in the game was the dream chaser.it was fun....i love the F-Zero X series for the N64.It was great and addictive.Half of vizzed Loved it.I play though, this game have loved it.The Mega man series was better for a reason, the character design (flash man, plant man and crash man) Level Designing and game mode *cough gemini man cough*.I belive F-Zero X was awesome As a gaming future.I belive this is the best racing game.Ever.
Graphics : The graphics were making me feel a little disturbed. They got 10 for a simple reason.3D Is our style for the day.And is cool, awesome cant be described.I am feeling not tad at all.
Sounds : The sounds were great, they need some improvement and they'll be fine.I love the Dream Chaser Theme.

F-zero X   arwingstarfight..
Growing up in the days of the Nintendo 64 was truly what I call the golden age of video games and F-Zero X is one of the best games to hit the console, the graphics are okay but at the speed your racer goes at,the graphics can't be looked at for very long. The depth of this game is incredible with 30 race cars, twists and turns, loops, jumping, and pure addictiveness, this game is the best racing game I have ever played and you will want to find yourself in the cockpit of the race car over and over again. The games soundtrack is what I'd like to hear in future video game titles, a heavy metal kind of sound, there isn't much of a story but the game play makes up for it greatly, throw in the addictiveness, the speed, and the depth this game is definitely a game you must play before you die
