F-Zero   becerra95
(All games I review I have a real copy I own or owned to play, even my 1st review { Dr.R Mean Bean Machine } for a few questioning 2 player mode, enjoy my review) This game is one of the best games (in nmy opinion) I evered played. Here's my Review
Gameplay: This game is set in the future where cars are ceased to existence by the use of hovercars. Player can choose one of four cars (yellow one being the most accelerated and pink being the fastest. Blue is more accelaration and green is more speed.) Player then race in laps to try to win the race. The storyline is... You have to win the three Grand Prix (Pree not Prix I just realized by sound)
Game modes: Grand Prix has 3 levels each containing different Race courses. You must be in a specific place each lap during the Grand Prix, finishing in the top 3 to advance to next course.
Exercise mode helps pratice race some laps on a few courses and you can race with or without a rival.
Records shows the time and stuff in your progress
Diffulculty: It depends on the track, Grand Prix League and car your using
My opinions: The game is good but has problems. Most important THINGS NEEDED: Saving, 2 Players, Unlockable Tracks! This game needs to save the records so it can give me a bit of competition here. 2 players might of been great to make a game last longer play wise. I want to play more tracks than the ones given in Pratice mode (I know I said Exercise mode before I realized). "Why not just keep them in Grand Prix" or "Oops, we realized to make these tracks unlockables" Nintendo might of probably said when the game was released. These 3 things would have been great if added onto the game (especially unlockable tracks).
I like the damage (death if explosion by no more energy or out of course) option in the game and the repair strip on the side near the starting line and speed boost after each lap with the option of storing 3 speed boosts max. Music is great, but annoying after long period of time. Controls are easy to play. Use of ramps was excellent to gain boosts up in air for a bit (until you land losing a bit of speed, not much)
Bottom Line: This game is a good favorite of mine and gats a respectable 8.7 out of 10

F-ZERO (Super NES)- Review   dazzsheil
The year was......1988. SEGA had just Unleashed their Mega Drive onto the world and was dominating the market with such titles as Altered Beast and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. It took Nintendo 2 full years to release the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Because a Super Something is automatically better than everything else in the world) and along with it came 4 games: Super Mario World, Pilotwings, SimCity and F-ZERO. It was a VERY solid launch line-up, each game showing what the SNES was capable of. Starting off my SNES Launch title marathon of reviews, we blast off to 2526 to F-ZERO!
The control was unlike anything done by anyone at that point for a racing game. B accelerated your machine and Y was the brake. When you had enough "S" power you could do a boost with the X button. The speed was just obliterating at the time, only being rivaled by Sonic the Hedgehog. F-ZERO uses a live-based system, run out of lives and you're out of the tournament. You also have a "Power" bar which is essentially a life bar, run out of that and you lose a life. It's simple yet fun and it really keeps you on the edge.
The graphics were only equalled by Pilotwings, as they both used Mode-7 scaling technology which basically allowed the background to rotate at it's own speed whilst the foreground rotated at a faster speed giving a 3D effect. F-ZERO Needed graphics like this, as a traditional top-down view just wasn't enough at the time. It needed something new and F-ZERO's POV was the standard of all racing games to come. The actual environments and characters were pretty solid for 1990, everything was detailed and crisp.
The sound was just perfect. Mute City and Big Blue are definetly the standout's of the entire soundtrack. The soundtrack is one of the most memorable on the SNES and it was the perfect starter to the systems life.
I'm more than likely to play F-ZERO again, just not over other titles. Once you've beaten all 3 cups there's not a whole lot left to do. I'd still pop it back in any day though if I was bored.
F-ZERO's story is basically non-exsistant in this first installment. Basically it's the annual F-Zero Grand-Prix and you're one of four racers trying to become champion. Nintendo has yet to say where F-ZERO fits into the series timeline, but I'd say it's first (Followed by X and AX/GX) VERY basic stuff and not important to the game itself.
F-ZERO is not a very deep game at all. You have three tournaments and 3 difficulties, therefore nine different options to choose from when it comes to tournament mode. There's also practice which is your basic time trail type of stuff.
Well, that's F-ZERO for you. Probably my favourite SNES Launch title even better than the mighty Super Mario World. I think it will go down in the-eventual- Video Game Hall of Fame. Anyways, next time, we're becoming the Mayor in SimCity which is probably my least favourite of the four games. See you next time folks, and happy gaming!

The year is 2100   grantjking14
I usually don't like racing games but the fact that my favorite Smash Bros. character is in it makes me immediately love it. In this game you are in the late future and the world is pretty much focused on F-zero races. There are four "cars" to choose from. These cars each have different stats. Some are faster but some have better acceleration. Your goal is to win the grand prix. This game is fun but I would recommend F-zero X more just because of its multiple car races and many cars to choose from. The graphics are better but this game will always be the original.

The future of Racing?   gamer-dad-79
F-Zero is a futuristic racing game. There are four different vehicles you can choose from, each with different top speeds, handling, and acceleration. The "cars" hover above the road and are propelled by rocket engines. Each lap you complete, you gain an "S" with is basically a NoS boost. Ramming into other racers and bumping the wall depletes your health bar, which can be replenished in a "pit stop" area. The graphics are average for a super Nintendo game. The sound can get annoying after a while, especially the high pitch "squeal" of the jet engines. This game can be pretty addicting, but in my opinion its only because you travel at speeds higher than 400 km/h. There is really no in game story line, just win the races. There are several different leagues of different difficulties you can progress through, but the overall depth is what you would expect from a racing game. The difficulty varies from super easy to dang near impossible. The replay value of this game is moderate.

F-Zero - one of the best SNES racing games!   geeogree
F-Zero was released for the SNES in North America in 1991 and is by far one of the best racing games for the SNES. It is a futuristic racing game taking place hundreds of years in the future. The only thing F-Zero really lacked when it was made was a 2-player mode which would have made the game even more fun to play. Not sure what the limitation was on that but it is too bad it was never included. That would have made F-Zero the best racing game for the SNES for sure.
Graphics 8/10 – this game looks great. The 4 cars you can pilot are all uniquely designed and operate in their own ways. The levels are also all very unique with only similarly named levels looking the same. The visuals do a great job of creating the hectic, fast-paced racing action that you expect to get from a game like this. The background moves as the track changes direction and the sides of the track whip by so quickly that you can’t focus on any of the edge parts for more than a split second. And remember that this was released in 1991 so it was pretty revolutionary with what it could do graphically. Still, I feel there was room for more detail in this game but it was still really well done.
Sound 9/10 – this is a place where F-Zero really excels. The soundtrack for this game was great. Every track has high paced and exciting to listen to but like the graphics, only similarly named tracks had similar sounding music for them. From beginning to end the music for this game excels. I can not think of a track that doesn’t deliver. Red Canyon, Port Town, Silence, Mute City and Big Blue come to mind as some of the best ones.
The sound effects are also quite good. I like the sound when you hit the energized barrier around the outside of the track and the sound of the healing machine that comes and fixes your vehicle when you go into the healing strip. It all sounds very futuristic as you would expect. The explosions and bumping into other vehicles also sound great. Sound for this game was just done well. Really can’t complain about much.
Addictiveness 9/10 – this game is so much fun to play. I’ve played it dozens and dozens of times. Just trying to beat each league at first is a challenge without increasing the difficulty at all. Having the ability to learn the tracks on an easy difficulty makes doing the hard difficulty levels more manageable later on.
The other great aspect to this game is playing certain races over and over and trying to beat the best time. That is probably something I did the most often. That was about the only way you could compete with your friends. The time trial mode allowed you to play the same track over and over and seeing if you could beat your friends’ best time was fun. Especially if you allowed “distractions”. This game is fun in a way that brings you back for more over and over.
Story n/a – it is a racing game. There is no story to it. There does not need to be one.
Depth 6/10 – unfortunately there are not more tracks for this game because it would be even more memorable if there were. There are 15 tracks over 3 leagues and each league can be done at 4 different difficulty levels so there are lots ways to play the game. However, in the end it is still the same 15 tracks to play. Even with 4 cars (which I find only 1 is really worth using) it does not make the game deep enough even then.
Difficulty 7/10 – to beat the game is not the most difficult thing to do. I can probably sit down right now and beat all 3 leagues on the easiest difficulty setting right now without much trouble at all. I doubt I could do that on any of the leagues on the hardest difficulty though. With as much range on the difficulty setting as you have it is impossible to rate this game fairly as the beginner setting would be easy for anyone and the hardest setting would challenge someone who has played the game 100 times. I figured 7 was a good compromise because the game provides that compromise in its difficulty.
Overall 7.8/10 – Do not let that rating fool you. This is a great game. I could have easily put the difficulty higher and gotten a higher rating but that wouldn’t be fair. The graphics and music for this game are great, especially the music. And the game is FUN!
The 2 things that are drawbacks are no 2 player mode and only 15 tracks. If the game had more tracks it would definitely have been even more fun but really, without a 2 player mode this will never be the amazing game it could have been. This is a great game that could have been one of the all time best on the SNES with just a few tweaks to it.

i mean that f zero x is just about the music, and that is not a bad thing. i do prefer X for that reason. i am just stating the fact for no particular reason
alsander124 03-15-12 - 04:44 PM
i find that this game is more a traditional racer than in fzero x, in this there is more remembering tracks and strategising your turns, f zero is just about the music
