Eggs of Steel - Charlie's Eggcellent Adventure Review by: AwesomeTrinket - 6.8/10

Review: Playstation Game - Eggs of Steel (Don't Fall!)

I’m finally back in action, baby! Today, we’re going to be reviewing a game I actually forgot existed, had I not suddenly found the disc for it! Once the nostalgia stopped overflowing into my brain, I began to play the game.

This game was a big chunk of my childhood gaming memories. In fact, I bet I wouldn’t even have been a gamer, had it not been for this game, since I played it so much. However, I’ll still try and give an unbiased opinion about this game.

Graphics – 5

Even for the time, the graphics are kind of meh. This game takes place in a factory, which, obviously, is going to have rusted gears and more. This means there’s going to be a lot of brown in the foreground and the background.

The colors are a little bland, because, as I said, there’s a lot of brown in the game. However, that doesn’t mean there are other colors in the game. For example, Charlie himself is a mixture of yellow, red, and white.

Another thing that relates to graphics is the cutscenes. Yes, there are cutscenes in this game, and, according to the North American box art, up to half an hour of cutscenes are in this game!

As a little five year old girl who was impressed by the littlest things, the cutscene graphics were beautiful to me. But now that I’m older and only impressed by the things that really are impressive, I can just say that – OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS TERRIFYING I LIKEDTHIS AS A KID?!

Yeah, while the graphics for the actual gameplay is decent, the cutscene graphics are kind of unsettling. I would have given the graphics a 7, but because I’m a little unnerved due to the cutscenes, I’m going to have to knock a few points off.

Sound – 6

The music is actually pretty nice to listen to. The main tune is this jazz song that’s very soothing to listen to. Of course, that doesn’t mean that that’s the only song in the entire game.

There is one level, I think it’s called “Slippin’ and Slidin’” or something to the effect of that. It appears to take place in an empty factory room, but blocks are constantly falling down!

The music for this round is perfect. It’s quiet and chilling, giving you tingles going up your spine. It’s probably one of the best songs that I’ve heard in the game so far. It’s almost Undertale quality!

There’s also sound effects and voice acting. There are only a few sound effects, which includes walking, fans, getting coins and more, so I’m not going to talk about it and instead focus on the voice acting.

So, as far as I can tell at this moment, there are only three voice actors; one for Charlie, one for his arch nemesis, BFB (Which I think stands for Bon Fire Blaze or something) and the final one for this female robot that I still don’t know the name of, I think it’s Rusty or something.

The actors themselves are pretty good, but some of the lines are a little cheesy. Also, BFB’s laugh is HILARIOUS. I don’t know if that’s what they were going for, maybe they wanted him to have a creepy laugh, but if they did, they failed miserably.

Addictiveness – 10

The addictiveness for this game sort of ties in with Depth, as there’s more to do in this game than you’d expect! The game is huge, with over 12 bosses to beat and 43 levels to explore!

Of course, I haven’t even completed the whole game yet, I’m still just on maybe level 3 or so. I’ve already defeated of BFB’s robot minibosses that he tries to use to destroy me and I’m looking for reset switch number two.

Story – 7

The story is certainly original, that’s for sure. I’ve never seen a story that takes place in a factory before.

To sum it up, Charlie is the night watchman of the Momfactory (At least, that’s what I think it’s called) but he’s kind of lazy. Being a lover of donuts, he’d rather scoff a couple dozen boxes of them in his face than actually do any work, but I don’t blame the guy. I’d be like him if I had donuts available for me to eat 24/7 during my shift.

While reaching for donuts one night, he accidentally flips a switch, which turns the factory on! No worries, all he has to do is flip the four reset switches, which requires him to get the four keys to unlock each switch. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, you’re wrong.

His arch nemesis, BFB, who I still have no idea why he hates Charlie, tries to stop him in his journey by sending out his evil robot minions that you have to defeat in order to advance in the game!

Depth – 5

This game, as I said in addictiveness, is huge. The main goal of the game is to find all the reset switches, which you can eventually do by punching out all of the timeclocks in that round, where you’ll have to face off against a boss before you can get the reset switch for that round.

You can also collect coins during the rounds. If you collect any of the green coins, you can go for a minigame called Donutopia, where you have to jump through spinning huge donuts in order to get coins.

Difficulty – 8

This game is actually pretty hard. You’re always high up on platforms and ledges, and, being an egg, if you fall off one of the ledges you’ll easily shatter and lose a life. However, that’s not the only way you can die.

You can also die from getting hit too much, like in all games, but you can also get fried from overheating in the factory. Yes, that can happen, and people probably do die from overheating in factories, especially in summer months.

If you see the thermometer at the bottom of the screen rise, you might want to look for a fan in order to cool yourself, unless you want to lose one of your lives, in which case, I won’t judge you, so go right ahead and do that.

Overall – 6.8

If I didn’t have this game as part of my childhood I’d try it out. And when I found out about what it’s like, I’d play it every now and then, not to the point where I break the disc, just when I’m bored and have nothing better to do.

Anyway, hope you guys have a great summer, make sure to stay hydrated, frequently find fans in real life if you’re also working as the night watchman in a factory like Charlie, and don’t flip any switches by accident. AwesomeTrinket signing off for the day.

Eggs of Steel - Charlie's Eggcellent Adventure Game Description

In Eggs of Steel, the player takes control of Charlie the Egg, a night watchman at the MOM Steel Factory. However while on break, the machines start up and it is up to Charlie to stop it by hitting the reset button hidden on the other end of the factory, but to do this Charlies must face hazardous obstacles and bad guys trying to stop him.The gameplay is in the style of a 3D platformer with 360 degree capability, jumping onto ledges, climbing pipes and avoid flying obstacles such as girders. Also Charlie will encounter bad guys along the way that he can take out with his "Egg Roll" and use his trusty wrench to trap and take out the baddies. There are 43 levels and 12 different bosses along with power-ups such as donuts that will increase Charlie's health. The story is told through thirty minutes of full screen animation and music composing of jazz, salsa and even Polynesian.
