Donkey Kong Country: Get those Bananas Back!   janus

Towards the end of the 16-bits era, Nintendo produced some of the best games (visually speaking) that were all a prelude to their upcoming Nintendo 64. Mario’s prelude to the next generation in Super Mario RPG: the Legend of the Seven Stars was wildly successful AND still is judging by the activity that games receives on Vizzed. Donkey Kong, his former archnemesis from Atari, preceded the Italian plumber in this transformation (it would even be followed by two other games). Donkey Kong Country is one of the most well-done platform game of its time.

Graphics: 10/10

No, this game was not made for N64 but for the SNES.

There are absolutely gorgeous. They are still limited by the 16-bit technology and don’t move 360 degrees like Mario RPG did a year later. Nevertheless both Donkey and Diddy Kong are very-well drawn. Their measurements are very realistic and their movement are life-like – Donkey Kong really looks like a gorilla whether he’s walking or running. Even when he’s idle he just pound his chest in… virility? On his side Diddy looks like a regular monkey, although he seems more human-like when he walks and run.

The difference in size (and strength) between the two apes is also well-managed. Donkey can lift a barrel over his head whereas Diddy can barely lift it off the ground. He also has a hard time killing enemies by jumping on them, unlike Donkey. However, Diddy seems to be running a little faster.

Your allies too are very-well drawn. You have an ostrich that runs quickly and can “float” down, a frog that leaps with great confidence, a swordfish that’s you only hope of killing underwater foes and a rhinoceros that will use its horn to destroy anything in sight, be it enemies or rocks leading to secret passages. You can even test them in a bonus round with a code at the intro screen, where you will have the possibility to collect a few lives, or by collecting three tokens during regular game play.

The levels themselves are also nothing like 16-bits consoles ever did before. Even if it’s in 2D (moving left and right or up and down), you can still see the efforts made to make them look like 3D. In the first few levels, for example, you can see some perspectives in the small hills you ape friends jump on to get whatever’s on it. The backgrounds too are magnificent. They are very colorful and appropriate for the environment, be it a jungle, a polar cap, a plant/waste water level or an ancient pyramid. Even your bananas turn 360 degrees and look real, unlike the coins in Mario RPG. There are even very noticeable differences in lighting; underground levels will be noticeably darker than overground levels, making the finding of secret passages more difficult – rock columns can also block your view, a dose of realism unseen before as well.

Your enemies are also well-designed. Like Donkey Kong, you can (by looking very closely) see the hairs from the mammalian enemies like the various groundhogs you find. The reptilians too are well-drawn and come in various forms, small and (mostly) big. Watch out for the larger ones and they are so strong that you can sometimes only destroy them with barrels.

Finally, bosses are HUGE. They are like five times larger than both of you and are fierce. They are repeated (a bald vulture, a groundhog and a bee, among others), but the second version is usually more difficult and the color is also different. When fighting them, you can see part of your stack of bananas… that’s still not quite ripe. King K. Rool’s design – that’s the final boss – was only beaten by subsequent Donkey Kong Country games. In DKC he jumps and throws his crown in an impressive manner that even Mario RPG couldn't’t reach. You can clearly see his scaly skin.

Oh, you can also see a complete map of your world where King K Roll has wreaked havoc, which was also a first. For Super Mario World, for example, you had to press Start and then move the cursor to see the various parts of the world.

Music: 8/10

Producers seem to have put as much effort into the graphics as they did for the music.

Although not as realistic and life-like as Final Fantasy VI, it still has a very good dose of realism. Just the introduction video shows Cranky Kong (an old ape) swinging his Victrola when Donkey Kong just drops with his huge stereo to show his modernity.

Levels all come with a variety of tracks and are appropriate for the level. Overworld levels have a very upbeat “jungle” sound in the first half – although the second would have been more appropriate for caves. The cave theme, though, is probably the best one when it comes to “appropriateness”. It’s slow and mysterious, there is a lot of echo in the track and you and hear the water dripping from the stalactites. Underwater levels also sound mysterious and slow, although they don’t sound as “magical” as they do in Mario, making them less interesting. Ice caves too have a little echo and their beat has a little something I like to associate with ice. Finally, the other memorable track I loved was the one taking place in a plant. It had a modern beat to it reflecting the technology all round you – the opposite of the ice caves (which aren’t realistically slippery like other similar games, though).

Sound effects were also given a lot of attention. You can hear a very distinctive sound for when the Kongs get hurt, although Donkey is more expressive when he triumphs over a boss – he shouts is glee whereas Diddy only throws his cap in the air. When waiting for too long, he just scratches his head whereas Donkey’s chest-beating yields a loud gorilla shout.

Your opponents too make sound and it’s proportional to their size – the huge reptilians sound “larger” than the small groundhogs. There’s even one that laughs at you when you’re unable to kill it when you jump; another has a realistic “deflect” sound when that happens. Bees have a scary buzzing sound (especially in boss form) whereas the vultures have an appropriate shout.

Finally, even your barrels have good sound to them. Steel kegs have a realistic-ish “bouncing” sound since they are indestructible, unlike wooden barrels that do sound like broken planks when they explode upon impact. The TNT barrels’ explosion sound is as realistic as it gets for 16 bits.

Slight caveat: the jumping sound from the rhino, the frog and to ostrich get annoying after a while. But the bonus rooms they uncover sounds like you’ve won the jackpot!

Addictiveness: 9/10

Along with good graphics and music, DKC was a game you just couldn't’t put aside. It mainly stems from two components.

First, it was the first platform game to be timed, at least for 16-bits consoles. In other words you wanted to beat the game as quickly as possible and actually could brag about it – Youtube didn’t always exist you know ;).

In addition, “completing” the game meant finding every single secret passages there were, totally 101 percent. Back before speedruns existed, getting all those passages could only be done by sheer skills, and Nintendo Power tapped in pretty well. I believe the best ones were like 50 to 55 minutes to get to 101 percent.

Finally, there was a two-player option, be it in cooperation or in opposition. I never tried that latter so I can’t talk about it. The other one however was very useful since, again like never before at least on the Super Nintendo – it existed on Sega Genesis since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 1992 – both players could play at the same time, greatly reducing the difficulty level.

Story: N/A

Like most platform games, the storyline is rather slim and can’t really be evaluated. In DKC, your mission is simply to get back the bananas the evil reptilian King K. Roll stole from you. You can see the empty room in the very first level, and you can see it filled up once you complete the game.

Depth: 9/10

This game is HUGE. It’s divided in six levels and a total of 33 levels (plus the boss at the end of each world and the final boss). All of them will keep you busy in many different ways

First, every level has the letters K, O, N and G which, if you can collect them all, give you a life. Collecting 100 bananas will also give you a life – picking a small stack will give you 10, a nice addition compared to similar games. There are also various colored balloons that also give you lives but, like the 1-Up mushrooms in Mario games, they are hard to find. There are also tokens from each animals you can collect; getting three will put you as them in a bonus stage where you must collect as many tokens as possible to get a maximum number of lives.

Second – and that’s the main strength in this game – there are tons of secret passages to be found, all of which add to your total in your quest for the 101 percent total. According to a walkthrough I found there are 67 of them dispersed everything. You know you will have found all secret passages when there’s an exclamation point next to the level’s name – some, like many of the underwater levels, don’t have any so you will see the exclamation point right upon completion.

Finally, the possibility of playing the game through over again once you complete it is always nice, especially when there are so many secret passages that are easy to miss – following bananas can sometimes be a clue as to where they may be. Plus, once you beat the game, you can see Donkey’s banana storage that’s completely full, making it obvious you completed the game – in Mario games you can’t save the game once you beat Bowser.

Difficulty: 6/10

While reasonable, the challenges in DKC are numerous.

As I said previously both Kongs have a noticeable difference in strength and it can be frustrating when you only handle Diddy. He’s weaker and therefore can’t kill them by simply jumping on them. He won’t die, but his bouncing back can easily kill you when a ledge is near.

In later levels, even Donkey can’t kill enemies by jumping on them, nor even by throwing regular barrels at them. You will need the steel keg, the TNT barrel or one of you animal friends to destroy them. Some enemies, while they do die with a barrel, can be very annoying like the bees. You can’t kill them by jumping on them and they sometimes take a lot of space. In the ice cave levels you sometimes have to quickly climb up or down ropes as they just stand there in the air.

Finally, later-level bosses are much more difficult than their earlier-level friends. The vulture gets much higher on the screen, the groundhog jumps much higher and quicker and the bee just buzzes very angrily and stays red (invincible) for a long time after you hit it with a barrel.

But overall, Donkey Kong Country is an excellent game – and I’m usually not fond of platform games. The graphics were astounding for the time, the music has the right groove for all the levels and the difficulty level is reasonable. Plus, you will need to look EVERYWHERE in order to reach the 101 percent mark as most of it comes from the 67 secret passages.

Donkey Kong Country: King of the Jungle   Fireproof
For my 4th birthday, my parents bought me Donkey Kong Country. I remember jumping up and down and fighting to kick off whoever was on the Super Nintendo moments later. Donkey Kong instantly became a gaming icon among my family. This game was brilliant. Who would have thought a side scrolling game with a guerrilla and a chimp could be so fun and so popular? This game has wonderful music, it's very addictive, competitive and it was a great buy at the time. It was well worth having in my collection and well worth the time spent playing.
Overall: 10
When this game was released it was a great buy. It's fun playing single player and much more fun competing with friends. Donkey Kong Country offers a lot of good music and the levels were designed to be awesome. If you've never played this game, I'd suggest you play it right now, you didn't even need to finish this review. Just go play. It's much more fun than it is reading a review about it! If you still aren't convinced, I suggest you find someone to play with. The netplay offered on Vizzed should help find you a partner and it would be fun to try and out-do each other. Overall, the game is great and it's exactly what you need in a SNES game.
Graphics: 8
The graphics were pretty awesome with plenty of room for improvement. I think when Rare created this game, they held back a little too much. It was designed very well and it was very appealing, however, I could see the game itself being kicked up another level or 2 before they even created the sequels and even during the sequels, they could have taken their game to an all greater level. I still don't complain about the animations or graphics that were used because it fit perfectly and made the game very enjoyable. Compared to other games on the console, it didn't do so bad. I'd still hold this game's graphics above many other games and even some on the Nintendo 64.
Sound: 10
Addictive. Personally, I love Fear Factory, Gang-Plank Galleon and Jungle Hijinx. The music in this game is epic. Songs taken from Donkey Kong Country should be the icon for epic more modern gaming. There songs were among the first that actually pulled a game to the edge of their seat and it was even more so when you're younger and you get trapped on the same level many times knowing that you can beat it. Music is easily the top seller in this game and the sound effects were flawless too. I can't think of anything that was annoying about this game in regards to sounds.
Addictiveness: 10
When you pick up that controller to play the game, it wraps ahold of your head and keeps you sitting there. What feels like 5 minutes turns into hours and before you know it, you're battling it out through the 4th area of the island. Like I've said before, it's even better with another friend along side you competing to win the game first or as a team. Playing Donkey Kong Country, you will not want to put down your control until you've won the game or found everything in the game.
Story: 4
So the game doesn't necessarily tell you the story so it's my job to tell you the story I came up with... Once upon a time there was a giant Donkey Kong head shaped island sitting in the middle of no where. For some odd reason King K. Rool was jealous that Donkey Kong's head was exactly like the island so he robbed Donkey Kong of his banana hoard and stored the bananas on his ship and sailed away. Cranky Kong saw the Kremlin menace steal the bananas. Cranky Kong went to sound his alarm but the record was set to lullaby music and soon it earned Donkey Kong's attention. Donkey Kong is young and immature so he jumped down from the trees above and broke the record player and knocked cranky off the tree (by accident of course). To get Donkey Kong's attention, Cranky threw a barrel of TNT at Donkey Kong and it exploded. Cranky explained the situation to Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong went back to his house to find Diddy Kong but Diddy fell asleep in a barrel. That's when Donkey checked for the Banana Hoard beneath his house. Donkey and Diddy Kongs went searching for King K. Rool. Lucky for them, they find that King K. Rool's ship returns to the islands because King K. Rool accidentally lost his crown and had to come back to get it.
Now, isn't that a great story???
Depth: 8
Surprisingly, there was a lot to explore in this game. You have several elements to play against, water, ice, darkness and on top of that, each part of the "world map" is pretty unique. Sometime later into the game, you will travel through a mine and in a few levels you actually ride a mine cart which I thought was cool. On top of that, there's some levels that you jump into a barrel that turns specific enemies "off" so that they don't chase you, which I thought was pretty unique. Lastly, you're able to ride around on other animals like the Rhino, Ostrich, Frog and Shark. Each level keeps the game entertaining. Personally, my favorite level is the one where the snow picks up as you progress and eventually turns into a blizzard.
Difficulty: 7
At first, this game would be kind of difficult to someone who hasn't played it much or at all. After you've played the game, it's not all that difficult. I'd have to say it's at a proper level of difficulty for new and old gamers. It's fun and enjoyable without being too overbearingly hard or way too easy. This game would give you a slight challenge especially if you attempted to find every bonus barrel for the 100%.
Donkey Kong Country is a childhood favorite of mine. I have some great memories from playing this game and it's brought me lots of fun and excitement. I've played it plenty of times and still can't remember where everything is. I like that this game can be a game that family could sit and play together, which I think is ultimately a problem with modern gaming. It's become too much more convenient to play online against strangers world-wide than it is to sit and play with family. The old games of the past were truly great games, but I guess that's why we're all here on Vizzed playing them! Play Donkey Kong Country if you know what's good for ya! :D

Donkey Kong Country - Classic SNES - Pacman's Review   pacman1755
So in this review I am going to make a comeback in the reveiws since I never made a review since August. This is Donkey Kong Country, a pretty good classic Super Nintendo game. It is something nobody expected back then, with DK returning since the arcade games. Let's get to reviewing!
DIFFICULTY 6
The game isn't that bad in the difficulty, but its like any other game, not overly tough, but not too easy either. It gets progressively tougher as you progress. From beginning to end, it gets tougher and tougher. Nothing out of control or in random, its in order. You should be fine until the Gorilla Glacier world. It will get a bit more tough, at least it gets tough for me, since its an ice world.
DEPTH 7
Its not that long of a game, but it isn't too short, its normal.
There is about 6 worlds in the game, 7 if counting the last world, which only contains the final boss:
Kongo Jungle
Monkey Mines
Vine Valley
Gorilla Glacier
Kremkroc Industries, Inc.
Gangplank Galleon
Not too long worlds, but the game does have saves, so you might not beat the game in one sitting, unless you really REALLY want to beat this. In each world there is a boss, and here is a list of their names, and strategy to beat them.
World 1: Very Gnawty
You should beat it pretty easily, just jump on its head 5 times and its dead. As you hit it, it gets more and more angry, and jumps higher and moves faster, so be careful.
World 2: Master Necky
This guy shouldn't be too much of a bother yet, like the last boss, just jump on its head 5 times and its dead. Jump on the tires to hit it, and avoid the nuts that it spits out of its mouth and you should beat it easily.
World 3: Queen B.
This boss is different. Do NOT jump on it, you can't beat it that way, you must hit it with the barrel in the area 5 times to beat it. Every time you hit it, it turns red and flies around the area, so avoid it at all costs, you can't hurt it at this state. When its in its normal colors again, proceed hitting it, and you should beat it easily.
World 4: Really Gnawty
This boss is pretty similar to World 1's boss Very Gnawty, only this time, this guy is tougher. Only one thing, it can jump higher and is much faster than the last boss, so don't underestimate it, but you can beat it like last time, jump on its head 5 times and it should be dead.
World 5: Dumb Drum
This boss you can't hurt. This boss is more of a gauntlet if you look at it right, just beat its wave of enemies, and it should be dead fairly quick, so don't try to jump on it, you will take damage.
World 6: Master Necky Snr.
This guy is another similarity to an earlier boss, world 2's boss Master Necky. You should beat it with 5 jumps on it though, so no trouble, just be careful with it, its faster, and tougher than last time.
World 7: King K. Rool
This is the last boss of the game, and is the toughest boss of the game, you can beat it by jumping on his head ONLY when his CROWN is OFF. You will take damage if his crown is still on him and you jump on him. When you beat him once, "Kredits" will roll, and this is NOT the end of the battle, so be careful when it stops rolling, King K. Rool will get up and will be tougher than the last time, so be careful. Just jump on him a few times, and when he is down again, it will be for good. He will be defeated, and you beat the game.
STORY 3
There isn't really any details on what the story is in the game, just in the manual or the box that comes with the game, I suppose. The main story is King K. Rool and his Kremlings have taken over DK Island and stole DK's bananas, so DK and Diddy Kong are going to go and get them back. That's pretty much it.
ADDICTIVENESS 10
This game will get you hooked pretty quick, its a classic SNES game, and a pretty fun one too. With all the secrets in the game, and all the minigames, that will keep you entertained with the game for quite a while. Definitely got me on that.
SOUND 9
With the sound track and sound FX in this game, it really is good, I really love the sound track on all the stages, especially the underwater theme, that is probably my favorite theme of the game, it really is peaceful. Love it all.
GRAPHICS 8
The design of this game is pretty good for SNES standards, it has good graphics on the snow, rain, and all other stages to make it pretty cool and different. Its not the best, but its something I really like.
OVERALL 9.6
Overall this game is probably one of the great classics of all the RGR and SNES categories. So you can safely say that I definitely recommend playing this game right now. So you can go down to the RGR right now and have a fun time playing this game, trust me, you will have a fun time playing this.
Hope you like it.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES)   StuffAllstar
You like foolishness? Do you like determination? How about apes V's crocodiles? Well if you liked any of those three play this game!
Story- 7
The main antagonist King K. Rool has stolen ALL of YOUR bananas!  Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong go on an adventure to take back all the bananas that K. Rool has stolen. Along the way you meet up with characters such as Funky, Cranky, and  Candy Kong. With the help of your allies you have no choice but to defeat K. Rool and take back what is rightfully yours!
Graphics-7
For a SNES game the graphics are pretty good, not the best, but pretty good. When I first started playing this game though I thought it was HD, hey ya can't blame me I was 8 at the time, and was just plain beautiful. For a SNES instant classic this games graphics are good with really good detail. The background and foreground of every level is beautiful, really makes ya feel like you are in Donkey Kong Country.
Sound-8
Music and Sound FX are brilliant in this game. The music has a good beat and is very addictive to listen to. The Sound FX of this game are hilarious when you kill an enemy or get hit! The ape and chimp DK and..... well... DK  when in a ....*sigh*..... DK Barrel make noise to attract attention but make decently funny noises.
Difficulty-6
This game, like many others, is a platformer and gets progressively gets more difficult and timing becomes very important and just becomes more intense as you progress. Not much to say about it except the difficulty level is just right.
Addictiveness-10
Usually when I
start playing this game I can't stop. Even after I beat it I still keep progressing to ding every secret and just to enjoy the music and all the levels again! That 101% will eventually be in my hands!
Depth- 6
This game has a lot to offer, for example to "100%" this game you must find every secret and beat every level. This game is not easy to "100%" either, I keep saying "100%" because you technically officially beat the game at 101%, you must find EVERY secret. But it really does deserve to be beaten.
Overall-9
This game was made by RARE a good company until they started to.....yea....anyways its a great SNES game and deserves to be played by all gamers new and old!

Donkey Kong Country and the bananas   justinfeena1
In this SNES Classic you're playing the famous monkey Donkey Kong and his little friend Diddy Kong.
Gameplay:
Donkey Kong Country is a typical jump'n'run: your running and jumping through different levels, collect bananas, letters and little statues and you can ride on different animals (like a rhino and an ostrich (posted screenshot)). You also have to fight different enemies like Kremlings and vultures and you can choose with which character you beat them (you can change between DK and Diddy Kong all the time). You can beat these enemies by jumping on them or throwing barrels. But sometimes you cant jump and defeat enemies because you have to swim. In these swim levels (posted schreenshot) you're just able to collect things and you can't do anything against the fishes but passing them. You can collect a lot in this game: you collect 100 bananas and you get an extra life, you can collect 3 statues of one kind and you unlock a bonus level. In the bonus levels it's just about collecting little symbols in a certain timelimit(no enemies). For each 100 you get an extra life (245 symbols = you get 2 extra lives). And in some levels you're getting shot around with barrels.
Graphic/Levels:
Donkey Kong Country looks very good but not much better than for example Aladdin. The levels are well designed and look beautiful. Some of them are truely highlights, like the tree houses and the diamond levels (2 posted screenshots). The levels are easy at the beginning but then some of them get extremely hard, difficult and frustrating (like the snow levels (posted screenshot)).
Sound:
The music of Donkey Kong Country seems to be quite normal at the beginning but the tunes are getting very good in the later levels. There are some nice and harmonic tunes, especially in the underwater levels.
Conclusion:
Donkey Kong Country is a classic and rightfully so. It's a good jump'n'run with some beautiful and hard levels, two sympathetic characters and many things to collect. It's filled with some great ideas, like the ride on different animals and the bonus levels. The only big negative point is the not very interesting story but that's something unimportant.

Donkey Kong Country Review   Bintsy
Donkey Kong Country, wow this game is amazing. I have been playing it ever sense I was probably about 8 on my
super Nintendo. One day I was at my grandmothers house and I saw my cousins playing this game, they let me play
it just for a few minutes and automatically I was hooked! I didn't own a Super Nintendo then so I ended up having
to wait a long time and eventually we found 2 or 3 at different yard sales. I remember before I found vizzed I
was having a lot of problems with my cord that went to my SN... it made it so hard most of the time I missed
hours of game play of DKC. Now that I found vizzed I don't have to worrie about that kind of thing! I can play
whenever and whatever I want!
Graphics : 10 The graphics are quite amazing in my experience with this game. They are colorful and bright and
have a sense of unique texture to it. They don't leave you blind like some games do even though it is a very
bright game they hit the colors just right enough where your not like UGH!!! This color is blinding me. I have
studied gaming graphics for a couple of years now it seems and DKC Is probably in my 1st best graphic games concerning
older styles of games. I don't find a lot of games that are like this game and honestly sometimes I wish I did
because I want new experience's new things, cool things like this.
Sound : 10 The sound is very nice. It keeps me on the edge of my seat just listening to some of the sounds and
music that are with this game. Honestly, I don't think that they could of put any kind of so called 'better'
sound or music in this game. It's very catchy and I really like it.
Addictiveness : 9 Oh man! This game is very addictive. I remember several times when I packed away my super
Nintendo because I got bored with the same games and stuff. Every time I would put it up, a little while later
I would reach for it and hook it all back up and play DKC.. it's one of my all time favorite games. I have probably
one it about 3 times and played just for fun numerous amounts of times. I would spend hours at a time playing
this game it was pretty unreal to most people but hey, can't blame a girl for liking it. It's also in my top
3 of games that gets me so distracted that I forget what I need to do that day when it comes to my responsibilities at
home and stuff. Sometimes I would do things at the last minute and I still do, that's why I need to be careful
because I have a lot of tests coming up, playing this game is going to get me way to distracted. I may never
get any of my work done which wouldn't be good.
Story : 9 The story is very good. To me it basically isn't a story at all in most instances. You just pass each
level like you would on a different game like Super Mario for instance. You have a bunch of levels then you
defeat a boss. Once you do that you move on to the next levels. I really enjoy just this because it gives so
much awesome game play and I am always left at a challenge. I feel like the levels provide story because it's a different
level each time you play, it's never the same type of level unless it's concerning like water or the coloring
of the game. It gives each and every user the opportunity to all experience different even if the whole game is
the same for everyone, some may fly right through it and some may just get stuck on different parts. It's the
whole point though to me. When I first started playing I would get stuck on a particular level but eventually
I would win it and scream YES!!! It took so LONG! Where as some people it would be no problem to. I wouldn't
down rate the story because of this because it's different and I like different.
Depth : 9 The depth of this game is quite decent yet long. Some levels I still just fly right through but some
take a little more than just flying right through them. It's a very detailed game and there is a lot of depth
through out the game play. It gives open minded users yet closed minded users the opportunity to experience something
great!
Difficulty : 5 I put a 5 as my rating for the Difficulty because for some people this game can be impossible
to play especially if you are not good at platform games. To me this game is easy and hard, which is why I love it,
even though I have played the game for so long it has left me with memories and still brings a HUGE challenge
to the table for me which I don't find in many games at all anymore. I like challenge and I like winning but
who could blame me! :D
I would recommend this game to just about anybody. At first, especially if your new at these kinds of games your
going to want to quit and be like meh, I don't want to do this but if you keep trying eventually you will win
that level. I mean I remember when I first played this game I tried some of the levels A BUNCH of times and still
didn't get it. I took a break and relaxed finally and after that I got it and screamed FINALLY! It's the best
feeling that I get and I usually never get that feeling anymore with any games really. This game is full of fun
and serious long time game play so if your looking for something to keep your mind occupied for a long time I would
recommend this game. Honestly I don't think there is anybody I wouldn't tell about this game unless it was like
a non game lover or something then it would be out of the question but let's look at the bright side most people
are game lovers.. sooo I guess that expains what I'm trying to say.
Anyways,

Donkey Kong Country Review   billythekidmons..
Seeing as Vizzed is going insanely slow I had to write my latest review in a note pad and then transfer it over typing so please excuse any errors that there is as far as spelling or grammar. Today I am going to review one of my favorite games of all time: Donkey Kong Country. I am planning on doing a three part series where I review each game and tell you what I think over all about the series as a whole. I also might add a third in which I play Donkey Kong Country Returns and tell you my thoughts on that game. But without further delay we should get to the first game.
Donkey Kong Country was a game that was developed by Nintendo but really Rare made pretty much the whole game. At the time the game was made though the company was still Rare Ware and was one of Nintendo's second party developers. Now the company belongs to Microsoft and pretty much went to the crapper. But that is not important. All you need to know is when Rare was with Nintendo magic was made and this is one of the games full of magic.
Donkey Kong Country is the first game in a fairly long running series but this does not make it the best... The game does have it's flaws and some of them are fairly noticeable now. That is not too say the game has not aged well because ultimately it has! Though the graphics tend to glitch.
I do not know if this is how it was on the original system or if it was just the RGR bugging out but when I played the background and foreground would sometimes screw up, and switch. Though for the time the graphics are wonderful! The "sprites" for Donkey and Diddy look lively and cartoonish. I love the whole art style of the game. The dying animation and everything else really makes this game stand out. The reason I had "sprites" in quotes was because the game is in a pseudo 3D world. The team was experimenting with 3D and polygons and that is what most of the enemies and Donkey and Diddy are.
There are a few problems I have with the game though. One of them good and one of them bad, I know what you are thinking, "A good problem?" Yes a good problem, the game is very fun and addicting. I have played this game over and over again and still have a blast playing through it! The part that makes it fun is the fact that it is hard but not want-to-kill-yourself hard. The hardest level in my opinion is the mine carts. They add a little challenge pretty early in the game. Which is good! The second problem is not so good.
The problem that I do not like is more of a personal problem. I do not like the music that much just because it is a little too grindy on my ears. I usually like bits and bloops but this game just sounds too raw for me... Though I still do like the tunes just not how they are presented. You will probably like the sounds in the game. I do also think that the story could be buffed, but it is Donkey Kong so there is really no complaint. Just because the only story is Donkey Kong's bananas are gone. Big woop.
I would say that anyone should play this game that likes platformers it is something a bit out of the ordinary yet still loads of fun. I give this game a 9.6 out of ten.

A very interesting game to play   IgorBird122
I really enjoy paying Donkey Kong Country, it's a pretty interesting game to play on SNES.
The Graphics:
For the Graphics in this game, it's very outstanding even for a SNES game, and the weather of this game shows some realism in the game which is a nice experience from Sunny weather, to stormy weather, to even snowy weather and the weather changes through the level and it also changing between day/night .
Also, if you look at the plantation in the game, it sure has a whole lot of realism during it's time when it came out in 1994 which is very impressive.
For Donkey and Diddy, they really look well done for the game and have a lot of texture onto them both. Not just those two, but also all the characters and enemies in the game, they all look nicely done.
-------
The Sound/Music:
The Sound and Music of this game is really clear and fits right in with the level you're playing in, the only thing I have a con about regarding the Sound/Music is when you pause it, the music still plays, but other than that, the sound and music of this games isn't really bad.
-------
The Addictiveness:
I have to say that this game is extremely addictive, I can say, with this game, I can play this game everyday all day if I could.
This game can make someone that is playing this game to keep on playing this and come back to the game.
-------
The Story:
They're not much into the story other than Donkey Kong wanted to get his banana hoard back from King K. Rool. With Donkey bringing his side-kick Diddy Kong, this would make the story of getting your bananas very interesting while you're dodging enemies and obstacles along you way to face King K. Rool.
-------
The Depth:
For the depth for the game, this game has quite a bit into it, you can control nether Donkey or Diddy which is nice on who you can use to get through certain areas in the level, also in some levels, they're multiple paths you can choose to get to the end of the level. Not just the multiple levels, but also the bonus games you can get in the levels as well to help you on your way to the end.
-------
The Difficulty:
The Difficulty of the game really depends on the level and how many times you played it. Some levels you can be able to beat at the first time, other times, it'll take you for s little while to get though the level.
For the world Bosses, they're pretty easy if you know on what you're doing, and for King K. Rool, it's hard at first, but once you know on what's your doing, he's a pretty easy boss to defeated.
All the world bosses does have an interesting difficulty, the later the world you travel in, the harder the boss becomes, some bosses are a little tricky when you play at first, but once you get down on their every move, then you know on what to do regarding that boss.
----
All I can say about this game is that this game is very interesting game to try out for yourself. With all the stuff you can experience it this game is really fascinating. If you haven't experience Donkey Kong Country, you should recommend playing this game with all you could possibly do in this game. This have can insure to kill your boredom immediately.
If I have to say, this is one of the best games for the SNES to have in your collection.
With all the ratings for the Graphics, Sound/Music, Addictiveness, Story, Depth, and Difficulty, I would give this game a 9 because of all the things you could possibly do within the game.

Ground breaking   hashimwars
Donkey Kong country (snes)
Graphics:10
This game was touted for its revolutionary graphics, they push the system to its limits and makes it look so good that no other game on this platform can match it, hell it even beats most N64 Games in terms of eye candy.Just to solidify this look at some N64 or PS1 games and you really see how ahead of its time DKC is. One cool fact is that when Nintendo saw the imense graphics the developer Rare had achieved they initially thought they were tricking them, and when Nintendo realized they were legit they immediently granted rare permission to make a donkey Kong game.
Sound:9
Sound is clear and atmospheric, very much up to the standard that Nintendo sets which many developers fail at.Rare however doesn't which you come to expect from rare as they are truly exceptional (Microsoft buyout? I don't remember such a thing...)
However the songs are not as memorable as other soundtracks but really who plays a game for sound?
Addictiveness:10
DKC is one of those games you get immersed in as 30 minutes turn to 3 hours and 1 hour turns into 1000 years....well ok maybe not that extreme but you get the point. If you doubt that then go on play it, I'll see you 10 hours because it has that effect on casual Kirby players to those 1337 MLG PRO players....
Story:7
The game starts with donkey Kong finding out that someone has stole his bananas and must employ the help of dk junior to rescue his bananas. This is DKC major problem in some peoples eyes but you know what? Its not major at all! Super Mario bros story is rescue the princess from a giant turtle reptile thingy.Which one in the franchise you ask? ALL OF THEM! No joke and its still hailed as a masterpiece of its time and if a bad story turns you off then you will have a hard time liking most retro games.
Conclusion (Thank god...)
Overall DKC is one of the killer apps on the SNES and is treated as such.It has 2 good sequels but if your low on viz points than I'd recommend this one as its the one that had the most impact and will get you accustomed to the series. If there are only ten games you check out then you should include this one your list as it features some of the most intuitive and tight game play mechanics that many plat formers have but they don't have the finesse of DKC
Overall I give Donkey Kong Country a  9/10

Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo   luigi25

Donkey Kong Country was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System near the end of 1994. This game would become known for its silicon graphics that gave the game a 3-D effect. Donkey Kong Country started a new trilogy of games for the SNES for the next generation of gamers in the mid 1990s. This was the second to last video game I played as a kid, and I got it as a gift from my mom at Christmas in 1994. The last game I ever played was Primal Rage for the Gameboy. For me, DKC is kind of bittersweet. It's a shame I never played any of the other games until years later in 2014.

I got to play: Donkey Kong Country (SNES), Donkey Kong Land 1 and 2, Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES), Donkey Kong Country (GBC and GBA), and Donkey Kong Country 2 (GBA). This is a series I'm not as familiar with such as: Mario or Sonic. This is the first game in a series of I have not played at all until I started playing them online a few years ago.

Graphics 10/10: The graphics in Donkey Kong Country are like no other game before it. The sprites look like they are 3-Dimensional even though this is a 2-D platformer. As a kid, I remember getting a VHS tape in the mail explaining how Rare designed this game. They explained, in detail how they did the sprites for Donkey Kong and Diddy. Not only that, but Rare also showed how the game looked in action with the graphical effects of the blizzard levels and all. The images appear crystal clear here in this version, and the graphics are the strongest part of this game.

Music 10/10: Most of the music in this first DKC sounds very original and catchy. Now that I think about it, there isn't a bad song in this game. All of it is A quality material! You have so many memorable themes: Aquatic Ambiance, Voices in the Temple, the Jungle theme, the Forest theme, etc. There might be a few that aren't as great, but they don't stick out to me. Most of the tracks that I remember are the ones I just mentioned. Rare made some games that had great music and graphics. They made Battletoads, a game that was badly designed but had some of the best NES music ever. The same applies to Donkey Kong Country. All of it sounds amazing!

Gameplay 10/10: In Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong travel through the levels as a team. The Kong in the front is the one that is in control, and if he takes a hit the other Kong takes his place and goes through the level solo. If you are solo and take a hit from an enemy or other obstacle, you'll lose a life. There are also save points throughout the game called Candy's Save Point, and you can continue your game from here if you get a Game Over. You can also use Funky's Flights to go back to areas of the game you have already been to. This can also be used to go back to the save point and save your game.

If you do happen to lose your partner, you can recover them by breaking a DK barrel. You can also hit star barrels that give you a checkpoint if you lose a life in a level. DKC takes place on Donkey Kong Island, and a map of the Island is shown at the start of the game or when the player finishes an area. Donkey Kong Island is the big map, but there are also maps of the individual areas of this Island. Once a level is completed, a path is made to the next one. This same mechanism occurs when you finish one of the individual worlds of DK Island.

There are other supporting characters in this game that help DK and Diddy. Candy Kong can save your game, Funky Kong can transport you back to levels and worlds you have already been to, and Cranky Kong can give you tips on how to play the game and find some of the bonus areas. These bonus areas are not necessary for completing the game, but they are necessary for 101% completion. I think it is worth trying to find them all, and I love the challenge of doing so. Donkey Kong Country encourages players to explore the levels instead of just playing them in order to finish the game properly.

King K. Rool (who is the villain of DKC) has trapped DK's animal buddies in crates all over the Island. After breaking the crates, you free the animals,  and they can aid you in your quest by giving you an extra hit and defeating enemies that cannot be defeated by DK or Diddy. The animal buddies found in the game are: Rambi, Enguarde, Winky, and Expresso. The addition of the animal buddies makes the gameplay more fun because it makes progression with the game easier than it normally is. These stages are pretty short and length and pretty numerous. They also have their own themes with: jungles, caves, glaciers, underwater levels, factories, mines, etc. This is a game with very interesting concepts and level design!

King K. Rool has sent his Kremling hoard to try to prevent Donkey Kong from getting back his bananas, and this adds to the appeal of this game. The animal buddies along with the help of the other members of the Kong family can aid DK and Diddy in their quest. The bonuses give the game even more of a challenge for players who have already finished the game. With all the extra bonuses, cool stages with nice themes, animal buddies, short levels, and smooth/tight controls, you get a game that has some of the best level design I have ever seen in a video game!

Story 8/10: One day Donkey Kong goes to his cave to find his bananas have been stolen and his buddy Diddy are gone. He finds Diddy trapped in a barrel outside his hut, and the two go off on their adventure to find DK's bananas. They travel all over DK Island battling through crocodiles and other enemies with the help of: Cranky, Funky, and Candy Kong. Eventually, they get to the top of the Island where they see a ship. The pair finally reach the ship called Gangplank Galleon.

On the ship, they are attacked by a giant crocodile named King K. Rool. He has stolen the banana hoard and plans on taking it back to his home on Crocodile Isle. The two Kongs must fight K. Rool in order to stop him from stealing the hoard of bananas. The storyline for this game leaves a little to be desired. The goal of the game is pretty boring, but I like how DK and Diddy get help from the other members of the Kong crew. I really enjoy reading the humorous dialogue from Cranky Kong when the pair go to ask for advice. It isn't the plot as much as it is the characters that make this script work. The story is kind of bland, but all of the characters are well thought out by Rare and Nintendo.

Funky is a trendy, surfer, dude with a jet barrel that can take the Kongs anywhere on Kong island they have already been. Cranky is the same Kong that played the villain for the original Donkey Kong that was in the arcades in the early 1980s. He has unlimited wisdom, but also has something smart to say to the pair, especially DK! Candy is a sexy, female Kong who DK is in love with. She even blows him a kiss when the two go to save their game. Donkey Kong Country is a cool game with lots of character and personality to it. King K. Rool and his Kremlings also have a lot of character. It wasn't until the late '90s, a Saturday morning cartoon was made based off of these games. The plot may be pretty generic, but these characters are just as iconic, if not more iconic, than the ones in Mario or Sonic.

Content 9/10: Donkey Kong Country takes only about 2 or 2 and 1/2 hours to beat. This game doesn't have as much content and levels to it as some of the other games do. It includes a total of 6 worlds: Kongo Jungle, Monkey Mines, Vine Valley, Gorilla Glacier, Kremkroc Industries Inc., and Chimp Caverns. There is also the final battle with King K. Rool that takes place on Gangplank Galleon. There is no Lost World in this DKC game, but players can explore the levels in order to find bonus rooms for 101% completion. I like how the 6 worlds each have their own layout and theme. This was something that would be expanded on more in the next DKC game. For this one, things are pretty plain but not boring.

Difficulty 5/10: When I played this game as a kid, I didn't think it was all that hard. The Super Mario Bros. games for NES were way harder. It is a game with average difficulty. You'll lose a lot of lives, but you'll earn a lot of lives. I never got to see the Game Over screen very much. Even if I did, you always got to continue from Candy's Save Point. The game also gave you many checkpoints, so DKC is a game where players might find themselves dying a lot but can still make progress. Things don't seem to get all that discouraging. Mine Cart Carnage sucks, but beyond that, the game's difficulty drops off a good bit. As long as you are willing to continue, you will beat this game.

Overall 9.4/10: The first Donkey Kong Country game is marvelous for an opening game in a series. Most of the time, first games aren't that good because the company that made it is still experimenting with the series. That is not the case with DKC. The game looks like no other, sounds like no other, and plays like no other! The characters are all cool, and it still provides a lot of extras to players who want more out of their gaming experience. I wished that I had kept an interest in gaming throughout the rest of the '90s, 2000s, and even into the 2010s when I was now in my late 20s and early 30s! I missed out on some great video games, but this wasn't one of the ones I missed out on. I did have the privilege of playing it. However, it was where I was starting to lose interest, but looking back I can't understand why.

Donkey Kong Country   Marcmoney
Overall - 9.8
Donkey Kong Country is one of the greatest games of all times. I would prefer playing it 100%. Donkey Kong Country is one of those games that you just love to play.  It would have adventure, RPG, etc. This is one of the exact games of Super Mario series. Now they have Donkey Kong Country 2, Donkey Kong Country 3, and Donkey Kong Country Returns, which is on the Wii.
Graphics - 8
The graphics are amazing.  It has goo quality and the images makes the game look good.
Sound - 10
The sound is perfect.  It would play those Donkey Kong songs that everyone would love and sometimes remember (cause it would get stuck in their heads).  the sound effects are so cool.  When you jump on an enemy it would make a boinging sound.  The rest of the sound effects are good and some are classical.
Addictiveness - 10
I would play this all the time when I was a kid, I mean ALL THE TIME.  It has multiplayer and competition (which is versing your opponent in beating the game the fastest) and they are just so much fun to play.
Story - 10
The story is quite simple.  King K. Rool steals a mountain of bananas from Donkey Kong and it is up to him and Diddy Kong to go and save them.  King K. Rool should realize that stealing a banana from a monkey can get something up your butt.
Depth - 10
The game has many features.  First of all, you can be Diddy Kong in the game, which is cool.  Another thing is that there are secrets and hidden passages in the game that can be fun to go through.  It is a great adventure game.
Difficulty - 4
The game is not that hard if your good at it.  It starts off very easy so that you can get the hang of it and then it will get difficult, but not too difficulty (I wish they did).  I heard there was a Lost World in DKC 1, but I think that is a myth because I could never figure out where it would be at.
Wrap Things Up...
Donkey Kong Country on the SNES is a great classic game to play.
I would highly recommend playing this. If you have never played this game, i would be shocked because it is known to be the greatest games of mankind.  I have been known to be a great game player at this. Donkey Kong series out of all the games made, this one happens to be the best, including the second one, the third one, and even the Donkey Kong Country Returns. Get this game, it is a fun and awesome game that you would not forget.I have beaten this millions of times and i still do not get bored of it. Donkey Kong Country, get it now. :)

Epic!   cplegogame25
Story:
The story is about D.K and Diddy Kong's banana horde has been stolen by King K. Rool, and it's their job to get it back.
- - -
Gameplay:
The game is a side scrolling platformer, you can play as Diddy or D.K, i like playing as Diddy because he is a lot faster, you can jump with B, run by clicking Y and roll by clicking A, you can also pick up barrels and boxes with A. click X to swap characters. You will be fighting enemies called kritters, some will walk back and forth, some will jump, some will walk and jump. You only have 2 hits but your in luck because there are barrels that say D.K on it so you can back one of the kongs you lost. You can swing on vines and climb up trees to find collectables. The collectables consist of bananas, if you get 100 you get an extra life. A D.K ballon which gives you an extra life, and gold statues that if you collect 3 of the same you play as another animal to collect a ton of bananas. Oh yeah you can also ride animals in this game, the first one is a rhino that charges through enemies and can break through breakable walls, another one is an ostrich which runs really fast and jumps high, and one is a swordfish which you ride underwater, and it works perfectly because swimming under water is perfect, the controls work great and riding on the swordfish, you can atually fight off the enemies. The levels consist of Jungle, Temples, Underground Mines and in the water. The jungle areas are basic platform levels with vines to swing on and annoying wasp enemies, you cant kill the wasp enemies without a barrel. The temples have giant wheels that chase you around and try to squish you, i would use Diddy to run away from them quickly. The Mines are the worst, most of the mine stages suck, some make you ride on a minecart where you need perfect accuracy for jumps. And the other mine levels are dark trying to avoid light changing kritters that are annoying to dodge. The water levels are actually great, the controls underwater aren't swaped, and if you think you're going slow, you can ride the swordfish to get a boost, the only thing i don't like are the octopus enemies which don't die. A long the map screen yyou will find different characters like Cranky Kong, who will give you ints and tips, Candy Kong, who saves your game. And Funky Kong that helps you travel to other map screens. The game can get unfair at some times where enemies pop out of no where and sorta impossible jumps. An easy way to get a good jump is get a running start by rolling and keeping holding it down. You can also launch out of cannons when you go into one, some are automatic. Just don't over shoot or under shoot the cannons.
- - -
Graphics:
The graphics are awesome, it looks like a 2.5D type game, The colors fit the environment that there in, and no graphic errors or anything that i could find.
- - -
Sound/Music:
The music is well orchastrated, with the catchy tune of Kongo Jungle and the calm tune of the underwater stages. The sound effects aren't bad either, except what the Kritters make when they die, it sounds so weird, like a boing got crushed. The monkey sound affects and other animal sound effect are well done.
- - -
Final Verdict:
D.K country was a well recieved game with great graphics, great music, great controls, and great atmosphere. The only downside is that it can be unfair at time with bottomless pits and random spawning enemies.

A True Classic   King-Giga
Donkey Kong Country is part of a legendary trilogy of games for the SNES. Donkey Kong Country is a typical platformer style game with 36-bit graphics, featuring pre rendered sprites with a 3D effect.
DKC features a tag team system, featuring Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong as the main protagonists. Both kongs have their own special abilities and the same basic moves.
Now on with the review !
The graphics get a solid 10 just for the fact they look so well rendered. They’re quite different from other games compared to the Mario series. They have a more 3D rendered look and they just look gorgeous. The game takes full advantage of what the SNES has to offer.
The sound also gets a solid 10. Donkey Kong Country has an impressive musical score and many of the songs are quite catchy. Each level features it’s own music with some themes repeating (Under Water Themes, Boss Battles Etc) I never get tired of hearing the music, and it’s not overly repetitive.
Addictiveness gets an 8. This game can be a little difficult but I always find myself coming back for more all of the time. Even if I do get tired of it I always get a good hankering to play it again.
The Story gets an 8, The story starts out with DK discovering that his banana hoard has been stolen by the kremlins and his buddy, Diddy Kong, Has been kidnapped and stuffed into a barrel. He and Diddy must go on an adventure across the island to recover the bananas and defeat the kremlins along the way. Overall this story is pretty simple and straightforward yet enjoyable.
Depth gets an 8. There are many levels and hubs within this game and they never disappoint ! There are many things to do, Collect Bananas, Animal Buddy mini games, and collecting Kong letters for extra lives. Overall there is a total of 40 levels in the game which will provide you endless hours of frustrating yet exciting entertainment.
Difficulty gets a 7 just for the fact this game can be plain frustrating. With only two health bars aka the kongs and the enemies you face this game can become quite difficult and hard at times. At some points it just becomes too much and I need a break from it. In the earlier levels the game starts off very simple and progresses in difficulty.
Over All Donkey Kong Country is a pretty solid game that people of all ages can enjoy !

The game that began a timeless trilogy   TheScarletSaiyan
In 1994, Rare released a game for the Super Nintendo that would be the first game in a glorious trilogy which stands out as my favorite video game series of all time. Donkey Kong Country impressed and wowed many people with it's astounding graphics (made using Silicon Graphics), smooth game play, great levels, and fun bosses. Yes, the first DKC acted as a great way to kick-start the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, although it honestly is my least favorite game of the 3. That doesn't mean I find the game bad, of course. It's still a great game, and one of the best on the SNES.
In this game, Donkey Kong and his best friend, Diddy Kong, must take on a horde of crocodiles called the Kremlings, who have stolen all of the bananas from Donkey's banana hoard. Donkey and Diddy will have to travel through 6 different worlds on Donkey Kong Island, defeat the toughest of the Kremlings, and then stand up to the Kremling King himself, King K. Rool, to reclaim all of the stolen bananas. On their journey, the Kongs will travel through many different environments, such as jungles, caves, mines, temples, factories, forests, and a few other areas.
The graphics in the game are certainly incredible, as each stage has a very well-designed background, with a special shout-out going to the snow stages. The gray skies and the snow that starts out slow but then turns into a fierce blizzard... nothing short of impressive, really. The amount of attention the developers spent on making the stages look beautiful is certainly noticeable. Also noticeable are the amazing character sprites. Donkey and Diddy are animated very well, and sometimes can do some pretty amusing actions, like when Diddy throws his hat down and stomps on it angrily if he loses on a bonus game, or when Donkey claps his hands and makes happy monkey noises when he defeats a boss. The enemies and bosses are all animated nicely as well, thanks to the wonders of Silicon Graphics.
The variety of game play in each stage of the game is wonderful too. In some stages, you will ride on a mine cart and try to jump over obstacles such as pits, bees, and kremlings riding in mine carts. Some stages have you hop in barrel cannons and shoot from one cannon to the next to get over large pits (these stages are HARD! Your timing has to be dead-on!). And there's even one stage that takes place in a factory where the lights flicker on and off constantly, allowing you to only see the Kongs, so you need to watch your step
Also, you can use animal buddies in this game. In certain stages, you will find a crate containing an animal buddy, and you can ride said buddy up until the end of the stages. There are 5 animal buddies in total, the first being a rhino named Rambi who can jump on enemies or knock them away with his horn. Controls are a bit more slippery with him though, but not too much. Next up is Engarde the swordfish, who you will only find in the underwater stages, but you want to get him, because he can plow through almost any aquatic enemy (not all of them, like the spinning croctopi). There's also Winky the frog, who can bounce high and land on enemies (including those pesky bees!), and Expresso, an admittedly burdensome bird who can fly briefly, but cannot hurt enemies. If you get hit while on an animal, the one you're on will run off, and it could very well run right into a bottomless spit, where it's gone forever. Last but not least, we have Squawks, a parrot who appears in just one stage to light the way as you explore a dark cave.
Speaking of animals, look for animal tokens in the game. These tokens will be shaped like either Rambi, Engarde, Winky, or Expresso, and if you get 3 of one token, you will get to do a bonus with that animal where you run around and collect small golden tokens. Once time runs out, you get 1 extra life for every 100 tokens you got.
While exploring DK Island, you want to keep your eyes peeled for bonus rooms. Sometimes you'll find a hidden barrel that will launch you to a bonus rooms, and other times you will have to use a barrel to break open a wall and reveal a hidden doorway. The bonus rooms give you chances to get plenty of extra lives, which can certainly be helpful. Sometimes you will have to spell out words by hitting letters that spin in the air (make sure to spell properly or you lose), sometimes you have to jump on enemies to collect bananas, and sometimes you have to match certain symbols on barrels, like KONG letters or extra lives.
Speaking of, each stage has 4 letters, and if you collect them all throughout the stage, you can spell KONG and get an extra life! If you run out of lives, it's game over, and you start from where you last saved. That brings me to the subject of the other three Kongs you will find on your journey. Donkey's grouchy grandfather, Cranky (my favorite Kong), is the Donkey Kong from the old Donkey Kong arcade game, and he will lecture you about how games used to be so great when they were just on one screen ("Whisking off maidens and throwing barrels around the place seven
days a week, I was. That's how I got where I am today, you know. Hard
work.")
and also give advice on how to find certain goodies or bonuses. Funky Kong will let you use his airplane to visit any world or stage you're already been to, and Candy Kong lets you save your progress. Each Kong appears once on each world, so make sure to visit them all (you can't listen to Cranky without suppressing an urge to laugh).
And of course, one does not simply talk about DKC without bringing up the musical score. The soundtrack, composed by David Wise, is very ear-catching and has many tunes that will get stuck in your head. The final boss theme, Gangplank Galleon, is one of the best boss themes I have ever heard, with a catchy start followed by an epic transition. The regular boss theme is frantic, yet catchy, the title theme is as catchy as a title theme could ever get, and the theme for the jungle stages is just unforgettable.
The bosses in DKC are memorable, but they are on the easy side, as only one of them could actually be called challenging. Still, fighting the bosses in a cave of bananas while listening to the epic boss theme will have your heart pumping, as you fight creatures like giant beavers, huge angry bees, and a big drum that conjures up many enemies for you to fight.
So, the big question  is, "why is the original DKC your least favorite DKC game?". Well, it is a great game, but the soundtrack to me isn't quite as ear-catching and captivating as the soundtracks for the second and third DKC. Also, the bosses are so simple, and you always fight in a cave of bananas, except for on the last boss. And I honestly think the graphics, while great, really ended up improving in the second and third installments.
So, DKC is an amazing game, despite my slight criticisms. It's the beginning of my favorite video game series of all time, and boy, once you start playing, it isn't easy trying to stop! It's more fun than a barrel of... well, you know.

Donkey Kong Country review for the SNES   G@mehe@d
Donkey Kong Country was released in 1994 for the SNES. It sold 9 million copies and was once a pack in game for the SNES.
GAMEPLAY: The gameplay style is very nice. You can switch between Donkey Kong and the newly introduced Diddy Kong. You can pick up barrels and smash enemies with them or you can attack them by jumping on them or knocking them down. There are plenty of bonus areas that you can find, and apparently Nintendo counted them as levels. I like how you can collect things to earn extra lives, like finding the letters KONG in the levels or you can find 3 golden animals and get an extra life too.
GRAPHICS: The game uses 3D models to represent the characters, and I think Nintendo did that for a reason. To show off that the Super Nintendo's graphical capabilities to the public, because back then 32-bit systems and CD systems were everywhere. Anyway the games 3D models look impressive and are very detailed. I like the lush scenery too, there's very good looking backgrounds that take advantage of parallax scrolling. The intro video at the beginning title was pretty cool. You see Cranky Kong which is an old guy playing the old record player and them suddenly. BOOM Donkey Kong smashes in action and plays his Boom Box super loudly and Cranky Kong get mad and throws a dynamite barrel near Donkey Kong.
SOUND: The sound is great there are great little songs in the levels and the sound effects are top notch.
ADDICTIVENESS: No matter how many times I died. I still kept playing. One time I was stuck on a level for 15 minutes and I still kept playing. That's how addicting this game is. I guarantee that you will be attached to this too.
DEPTH: The game has a lot to offer. 40 levels to play and plenty of secrets. I was in the levels hunting for all the secrets and its very fun. There is a creative boss stage for each section of the island. I spent 1 week on this game. That's how much this game has to offer.
DIFFICULTY: The game is difficult. It's very easy to die and I get very frustrated when I spend a bunch of time trying to beat a level that I know how to beat. People who are really good at video games will like this game the most!
STORY: The story is simple. King. K Krol stole Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong's banana horde. They then go on a quest to defeat King K Krol and retrieve their banana horde.

Welcome to the country   Voldo
Its DK, Donkey Kong. This game is the start of a beautiful franchise, a franchise that skewers FAR away from the arcade games. In this SNES gem of a game, you play the duo of Donkey Kong (the bruiser) and Diddy Kong (the agile) as they battle the nefarious King K. Rool and his army of Kremlings as you reclaim your stolen fortune of bananas (real monkey problems). Rare really knew what they were doing.
GRAPHICS: 10
The graphics are really splendid and they utilize the full capabilities of the SNES. Beautiful landscapes, dark storms, radiant sunsets...etc
SOUND: 10
Phenomenal soundtrack, absolutely wonderful
ADDICTIVENESS: 8
Not really much replay value. No collectables whatsoever
STORY: 9
Simple story of reclaiming stolen....treasures?
DEPTH: 10
Pretty straightforward. Not much in extra content or alternate pathways.
DIFFICULTY: 8
Although, there is a major increase in difficulty halfway through the third area.

Donkey Kong Country is a great game, even though it gets frustrating and this graphics are really good I mean it's just really good fake out 3d that actually looks like 3d, the introduction is so hilarious and a good idea, first we think we got fooled until Donkey Kong appears to show us the REAL fun, and then the title looks like an amazing picture, you are NOT a true gamer if you haven't played this yet, Donkey Kong Country is truly perfect, if you do not get this true amazing stuff of Donkey Kong madness you are stupid, yes I know it's insulting but it's also the truth, it also has great 2-player options like you could press A to let another player play, making Donkey Kong Country the GAME OF THE DECADE!!!!!! Be careful not to get a game over, it is creepy

The start of an amazing series   Patrick Star
Donkey Kong Country was the start of an amazing game series of platformers all though this is the worst game in the series it is still really good and I am going to tell you what is so good about Donkey Kong Country.
Graphics:
The graphics are really good the characters move smoothly and everything looks great with the bright and colorful colors.I think they could have been a little better because the SNES got a huge improvement in the graphic quality and all the games looked just as great most of the time.I also think they could have had the background change in the level because it gets kind of weird walking through a ton of trees with nothing changing about them they are the exact same.I think the graphics deserve a nine though.
Sound:
The sound is really great with how good they get it with the the kongs and all the animals. The music is always amazing and fits the level that you are playing through they even nail the music with the bosses each theme of each boss fits it very well so I am going to give the sound a ten.
Addictiveness:
The game is really addictive because of it being challenging and having such good graphic and sound quality. It lacks collectables but they fixed that in two and three by giving them a ton of them but that is not an excuse for this it didn't draw you in and keep you playing to get secrets as much as it could have but that is a minor issue it is still fun knocking enemies around and listening to the music while you do it because of this minor flaw I give the addictiveness a nine.
Story:
It does not really have much for story but the story is King K rule has stolen all of the Kongs bananas so they will die and you have to get them all back by beating the bosses which have them stored. Since that is all it has for story I give it a seven.
Depth:
It has a lot to offer but nothing to keep you busy after you beat the story you just replay it over and over again because there is nothing to collect or anything which really draws it down.It does take a good amount of time to beat though so I will give it points for that so for the depth it gets an eight.
Difficulty:It does not have clunky controls and it is not that hard because the game overs do not take you back very far so I am going to give the difficulty a nine.
Overall:Overall it is worth your time to play and I think overall it deserves a nine.

Donkey kong country (snes)   Awesome5000
Its come a long way from atari ,and Donkey kong country for the snes has taken the series to a whole new level in this adventurous supernintendo classic that involves donkey kong and diddy kong.Play a 1 player game or 2 player game while your partner tags you or you tag em for cooperative gameplay throughout the levels .Even on 1 player mode you still control both by tagging donkey or diddy whenever desired.Youll come across lots of different types of enemies ,humongous bosses ,as an attack you get to pick up and throw barrels ,roll over enemies,an over head jump like mario, ride on rhinos and automatically attack anyone who opposes you, super jump with the help of a frog, ride on minecarts ,and also swim underwater.  Donkey kong country is one of the best classics for the snes with colorful stages, great soundtrack and also ,you can save your game data at a certain area on the map as you progress.

Donkey Kong Country: Graphic Excellence.   jk2112
This is Donkey Kong at it's best. The graphics are all encompassing and surpassing all else for this system. Everywhere you look there is new and interesting sights to behold. The more you play it the more you notice about the background images and environmental graphics. It is truly a work of art. And the animation is quite amazing as well. Especially for a 16 bit Nintendo. They are really pushing the envelope with this one. And what is surprising is that there are no slow motion glitches, what with the abundance of activity happening simultaneously. In a lot of other video games there are problems with this. Even super Mario world has this problem at times. But not Donkey Kong Country. There are no hesitations in timing that I have noticed.         The sound quality is very clear and absolute. It makes me wonder what this game would actually sound like in surround sound. This would be phenomenal, in my opinion. Especially since the music is so well composed. It sounds like synthesizer music that took a lot of deliberating and creative inspiration in the studio to get it right. Bongo drums, bamboo flute, and various other fascinating sounds are included in the soundtracks.         Furthermore, this game is a very great challenge. And a fun challenge at that. It keeps you on your toes a lot. Jumping from treetops to catch helium balloons before they float away. Bouncing off of the heads of enemies one after another, then having to land on a platform in the middle of the air. So on and so forth. Oh and don't forget about the mine carts. This requires great timing as well. Timing is essential. So yes, this has got to be one of the most well thought out projects of all time. Don't just take my word for it, if you haven't yet tried Donkey Kong Country, give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Jk2112 signing out. God Bless.

Donkey Kong Country Review (SNES)   mgharper94
Hey, hey, hey! I'm bringing another review on another classic retro game and this time for an SNES classic by the name of Donkey Kong Country! This title in particular pushed the boundaries of the SNES of its time so, let's see how it did overall shall we?
10 GRAPHICS: The graphics of this game is SPECTACULAR for the SNES of its time! Every detail, every shadowing, even the characters look and move so smoothly in this title. You can even see King K. Rool's scales on his body and shine!
10 SOUND: The sound in this game is also awesome for its time! The music and sound effects in the game were like from a CD, even the final boss music is phenomenal!
7 ADDICTIVENESS: Well, the game is fun and it's more fun if you have a friend over for a co-op session or a head-to-head competition but if you beat the game, there really isn't much left and so, you'll just be playing the same game over again with the same ending. Not really much with the addictiveness part of the game as far as secrets go.
7 STORY: Well, the story of it is this: you're Donkey Kong who's going to go defeat King K. Rool because he's kidnapped Diddy Kong and has taken your banana hoard. It's not much but it's good to get a game going.
8 DEPTH: As far as how much the game offers, it has a ton of secrets no doubt! In almost every stage, there will be a secret room or a bonus stage offering rewards or an animal buddy for help. It's best to search the walls with a barrel or have your partner ready for action for all those hard to reach places.
8 DIFFICULTY: This game does and will get hard on you as you go along your way to make it to King K. Rool. Every challenge of every stage will have its moments and defeats if you're not careful. It's best to take a safer way rather than a risky way before jumping off a ledge or aiming a manual firing barrel.
So, that's it for this review on another classic game! Overall, this game is a terrific game to play for your SNES! It's got great sound, graphics, and its fun to have a buddy over to play some co-op games! As always I will see you guys around in another review here on Vizzed, happy gaming everyone!

This game is amazing.   grantjking14
Donkey Kong Country was and still is the best game for the SNES ever.
Graphics: The graphics were spectacular for the time period this game was created in. The levels were all well created each with their own special name.
Sound: The sound is awesome. This game has tunes that have been stuck in my head since I was a kid. The sound alone is what inspired me to buy Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii.
Addictiveness: This is one of those games I could and have played over and over again. They are such fun games and the levels are very fun to play.
Story: There wasn't much to the story except King K. Rool stealing DK's bananas and the Kongs chasing after him. I still enjoyed what there was of a story though.
Depth: There wasn't a whole lot you could do but collect bananas, KONG letters and complete the levels. Still an enjoyable game of course.
Difficulty: This game was very difficult at times but most of the time it was a relaxed easy game. This game is one of my favorites of all time and I think everyone should play it.

There's a Reason Why This Game is Legendary!   acam
Ever since its inceptiion, Donkey Kong Country has always been viewed as one of the games that "defined" the SNES console. To me at least, this still reigns true. I'll explain further in this review. Graphics score a 10 because all of the fully-rendered graphics of the game are digitized with the percision, skill, and beauty of a master artist. Sound scores a 10 because all of the sound effects are funny, and the music frankly rocks. Addictiveness scores an 8 due to it pure fun factor and its ability to keep you playing for a long time. Story is 8 because it's short, sweet, and really gives you a reason to keep playing. Depth scores a 10 due vto its multitude of levels and secrets to explore. Difficulty scores a 7 because it can be thrd to survive a game that only gives you too hits per life, especially considering the enemies that you'll face.

Good Game   wytchcraft
Coming from the Super Nintendo, this was a good game.  It is made up of different parts area maps which have multiple levels.  It also offers tips in the form of Cranky Kong.  There are many opportunities to discover hidden areas as well.  The story line is your basic, save the world you love from the evil that threatens it.  Graphics are decent considering the age of the game, the same goes for the sound quality as well.  The most annoying part about the game was having to decide whether you need to use Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong to make a jump.  If you make the wrong decision and use Donkey Kong, you fall to your death causing you to re spawn in the game.  Then there are instances where even when you choose the right Kong to make the jump, something ends up hitting you or some other odd glitch will happen and you, again, fall to your death!  After about the 20th time trying to make a jump, it makes you want to throw your control at your television!  The boss is pretty easy to defeat once you catch on to his pattern, which only takes maybe two or three tries.
Overall, it is a good game to pass the time.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
