Donkey Kong take 3(DKC 3 review   tornadocam
Every body's favorite Gorilla family the Kongs is back for a new action paced adventured
Plot: 8
Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong go into the Northern Hemisphere on a fishing trip and vacation. Now, before I go any further the Hemisphere in this game is temperate zones that have all 4 seasons. Sorry I study Meteorology so this has been your weather lesson for the day. Okay, back to the story. However, Donkey and Diddy do not return. Dixie Kong decides to go looking for them. Among the way she meets. Wrinkly Kong who says that the boys passed by. She then makes her way to Funky Kong and he brings out Kiddy Kong. The two use one of Funky's boats to cross the sea. To their surprise they find crocodile tracks. Dixie and Kiddy recognize them as Kremlings. In the Northern Hemisphere they find the Kremling crew who seem to have a new leader named KAOS. The plot in this game was decent. Rare wanted to give the players a sense that their was a new bad guy ruling the Kremlings. However, Rare does not give away the rest of the plot until the end of the game, though they do give you clues, were the player discovers the shocking truth. I really like how Rare was trying to introduce a new story line. However, the plot suffers from one thing. If anybody has played the previous Donkey Kong games you know were there is Kremlings; King Rool is nearby. To new players the plot would have done its job by confusing the players on thinking there was a new bad guy. However, to people familiar with the Donkey Kong series knows that King Rool is behind it all. So, while the plot is good and it does do its purpose it was still obvious to regular players on who was really the mastermind. Thus, since the game even gives you clues on who is really the mastermind of the disappearance of the good guys. I feel like the best I can give the plot is good 8 out of 10. I guess having played Donkey Kong games is what made me think of who the bad guy really was. On the other hand, Had I not played Donkey Kong games before I would have thought a new threat had emerged.

Graphics: 9
The graphics have not really changed from the previous Donkey Kong games. The backgrounds are still very good. I like how the snow falls in the winter stages it really brings a nice touch. Plus for a guy into Meteorology that is a bonus for me. I also like how the lakes in this game look so clear like they are actual real lakes. I like to think that the lakes in this game is how lakes are supposed to be in real life. Lakes are supposed to have life in them and be clear, so the graphics in this game really shine. I also like how colorful this game is from the mountains, forest and the underwater levels its a nice touch.  The controls in this game are pretty good. The only thing I have is sometimes Kiddy seems a little bit sluggish at times. It seems like when the player makes Kiddy jump or do the roll double jump he just feels sluggish. Maybe I got used to the good controls of the second game. Kiddy being sluggish makes me wonder if this game was not just a little bit rushed. Dixie has very good controls. I find the sprints of the enemies are just like the past two Donkey Kong games very out standing. There is no major lags in this game. The fast paced stages is were I though a lag might occur but it didn't. So overall the graphics in this game are like its precursors they are very outstanding. The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect 10 is the sluggishness of Kiddy just brings this one down just a bit from Donkey Kong Country 2. Still the graphics and controls are very good and thus I give them a solid 9 out of 10.

Sound: 10
Donkey Kong 3 really shines in the sound. The enemies groaning and moaning whenever you knock them out is still funny. That has carried over from the second game. Also the sound the Kongs make when they get hit is still nice. I even think it is funny how when Kiddy gets knocked out he goes into a tantrum. But for me Donkey Kong 3 had some of the best music of the three Donkey Kong games. I find the music to be very relaxing. I really like he forest stage's theme it is so relaxing and makes me think I am in the Mountains, which is home to me. Sometimes the music is so good. I just stand there and let the music play for a few seconds. I also like the snow theme music. Donkey Kong 3 does not have a bad music theme in it. Donkey Kong 2 had awesome music so I thought it would be hard to top that game's soundtrack. I was proven wrong in Donkey Kong 3. The music is better than Donkey Kong 2 and even the first game. In summary, Donkey Kong Country 3 rocked on sound and music. Thus it is the perfect soundtrack.

Addicctivness: 9
Donkey Kong 3 is a very fun game to play. I often play this one a lot. I just think it has good sound and a lot going on in this game. The only other Donkey Kong game I play more than this one is Donkey Kong Country 2. The second game is just special. However, this one is really fun. For me its just the different climate zones in this game that makes it so addictive. The only thing is I wish Rare would have given Donkey Kong 3 more Kremlings. The second game had a lot of Kremlings and I thought that was cool. But overall a very fun game to play and enjoy.

Depth: 10
Donkey Kong three has a lot of depth into it. There are several things to look for in this game. First of all a carry over from the second game is the Hero Coins. The coins some of them are well hidden. However unlike the second game you have to earn them this time around. Second, you have to find caves in this game that contain banana birds. Note you have to get the puzzle right to release the bird and there is a lot of them. Also you have the Brother Bears some of them require items that you will need to find as well as buy to proceed to get more items. Plus there is the bonus coins to complete. To get a good rating in this game the player needs to release all the birds by solving the cave puzzles. Players will need to find and complete all bonus levels. Also, get all hero coins and finally, buy items from the bears and help them out. This game has a lot of things going on in it. Games that have a lot of depth add to the replay value. Some levels also require revisiting to get all the items. This game takes a long time to beat. Thankfully you can save your game. Donkey Kong 2 had a lot of depth in it so this one ranks up there with it. Rare really knew what it was doing when it was making the Donkey Kong series. The company also knew what they were doing by making the last two games in the Super Nintendo Donkey Kong series great. The depth in this game gets a high rating.

Difficulty: 9
Well Donkey Kong Country 2 was very difficult especially the end boss. I can remember losing a lot of lives in that game. Donkey Kong Country 3 is still very hard to beat. I find that having to get all the bonus levels in this game adds to the difficulty. It is so easy to miss a bonus level in the stages. Rare made it hard by hiding a lot of them requiring the player to investigate every area. In addition, the bonus levels are hard to complete. Second remember how I said how you had to earn the Hero Koins this time. There is a Kremling that guards them the only way you get the coin is if you defeat him. Most of the time he is easy to beat. However, though sometimes in the later levels of this game the player has to get creative to defeat him. The cave levels are not too bad but in the latter levels the puzzles get longer and faster. Also having to go on quest to help the bears out adds difficulty because you often have to revisit stages that may have been a pain. The bosses in this game can be tricky the first two are pretty easy. However, in later levels they are very tough to beat. King Rool (yes did you expect anybody else) is hard to beat. I still lost some lives trying to beat him and the other bosses. But the thing is he is a little toned down in this game. King Rool is still tough to beat do not get me wrong. But unlike the last game were he was firing everything out of his gun he leaves himself open for attacks this time. Due to King Rool being toned down just a hair I think this game is slightly and its a very slightly less difficult than Donkey Kong Country 2. However, a good rule of thumb is make sure you have plenty of lives it is still easy to mess up.

Overall : 9.3
I did not mention this before but Donkey Kong Country 3 has a science theme. There is the different climates, the mechanical theme, even King Rool is dressed like a scientists this time around. A lot of the stages have electricity in them. It reminded me of Science in the 18th and 19th maybe mid 20th century science. I am a scientists so I loved the science theme. I thought it was very nicely done. But its just not the science game that makes this game a great game. The music is what makes this game shine. All the stuff to look for in this game if you are going to get a 100 % or better just adds replay value. I really like games that add depth and are challenging. Because when I beat them it feels like a rewarding accomplishment. In addition, Donkey Kong Country 3 really rivals Donkey Kong country 2 in greatness. I have also noticed as I played through all three games they all seem to have a different theme. The first game had a military theme, the second a pirate theme, and as I stated a science theme for the third addition. Now, I mentioned it earlier that Kiddy Kong seems to be a little sluggish and I wondered if the game might have been slightly rushed. For those that do not know this game came out I want to think 1997. The SNES was staring to lose its stance as the top game counsel due to the new Nintendo 64 and Sony Play Station. Donkey Kong Country 3, Mega Man X3 and Kirby's Dream Land 3 were the last big hits for the SNES. So with that being said Rare was probably in a hurry to get this game out before the SNES started losing its top spot. I also feel like maybe that is why King Rool may have been toned down just a little bit. Those are the only two negatives I can think of in this game. I remember buying this game in 1998 so about a year after it came out. I really liked this game and had fun with. I can remember playing this game as much as I played the other Donkey Kong games. Now I am for the most part a Mega Man player so I did not really compare Donkey Kong to Mega Man or even Mario because that would not be fair. Looking back though the three games series I played the most on the SNES, is Mega Man (includes the X games), Mario and Donkey Kong. I think this game is a very great game. If you are looking for a great game than you have found one.

Donkey Kong Country 3   Marcmoney
Donkey Kong Country 3...one of the biggest and popular games of mankind. A few years ago, i was playing Donkey Kong Country 1 for so long and i had an image of what seems to be Donkey Kong Country 2. I looked it up and i bought the game and it was something i remembered in that time period. When i played Donkey Kong Country 2 for a while, i looked up things for the fun of it and found Donkey Kong Country 3. I was so confused and i checked it out and looked up information on it and i realized that it is a real game. I thought it was someone making a hacked game or something. I have it now and i played it many times.
The gameplay is great. It is very different out of Donkey Kong Country 1 and Donkey Kong Country 2. When i was playing Donkey Kong Country 3, i was surprised of how you start out. You can move anywhere in the map, that was the coolest thing of all and riding in boats. Funky Kong and Cranky Kong were still in the game. Although, new things on the map seemed a whole lot different. There were secret hideouts and houses that i found and went into and every house i went in was a bear after a bear. I did not know what this meant, but until i figured out what they did, i figured it was just to get the completion percentage game up; to get items and trading off items from a bear to a bear to a bear.
Now, the gameplay in every level is amazing. The characters and the enemies were very better looking. I would imagine seeing the same creatures from Donkey Kong Country 1 and Donkey Kong Country 2, but i was wrong.
I found out another thing that shocked me. I realized that the rhino is not in the game anymore. :S In fact, it was replaced, by an elephant. I did not know what the name was, but it sure was a little confusing. The elephant surprised me of what it can do. It can suck the barrels from a distance and throw it on enemies or roll it. :) I was surely amazed at that.
From playing Donkey Kong Country 3, i learned that this is twice as better than Donkey Kong Country 1 and Donkey Kong Country 2. Getting this would be a good thing because it is very fun. You have to try Donkey Kong Country 1 first and then Donkey Kong Country 2 to understand a pinch of information of what Donkey Kong Country 3 is like.
Another thing is the bosses. It was so amazing of what the bosses were. One was a waterfall, one was a snowman, one was King K. Rool, obviously. Come to think of it, this is how Donkey Kong Country 3 started:
King K. Rool gets revenge on Donkey Kong by capturing him AND Diddy Kong. Dixie Kong was the only person left, until she had a little help from Kiddy Kong. Kiddy Kong was just like Donkey Kong, except he looked like a baby. They made a great team to save Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.
I say Dixie Kong is the best character out of all four of them because of her hair making her glide through the level.
To sum everything up, the best part of this game is WINNING!!! :D Get this game, it is awesome!! :)

The DKC trilogy ends with one of the best games ever made!   TheScarletSaiyan
There is no doubt in my mind: the Donkey Kong Country trilogy on the Super Nintendo is by far the besst threesome of video games ever made. The original Donkey Kong Country, released in 1994, is an extremely nostalgic game for me, and one of my favorite SNES games of all time. Donkey Kong Country 2, released in 1995, is my favorite video game of all time, and then we have the third one. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, released in 1996, concludes the SNES trilogy by giving gamers all of the things that made the first two games so great: jaw-dropping graphics, superb gameplay, unique level-design, and of course, one of the best game soundtracks ever created.
The story line for DKC3 is similar to DKC2. K. Rool, having been defeated twice by the Kongs, is gunning for revenge once again, and this time both Donkey and Diddy Kong have been captured by the Kremling king, who now has a mad scientist persona and is calling himself Baron K.Roolenstein. What's more, K. Roolenstein has created a robot called KAOS, which has enough power to take over the world! So it's up to Diddy's girlfriend, Dixie, and her toddler cousin, Kiddy, to travel to the Northern Kremisphere and reach the castle where K. Roolenstein dwells.
Dixie and Kiddy, the game's two playable characters, are both very easy to control. Just like in the first two games, you can run, jump, dash/roll, and duck, and like in DKC2, you can use Dixie's helicopter spin along with the team throw technique. However, there are a few new things you can do in this game. For starters, the team throw technique has been altered. Kiddy is a lot larger than Dixie, so if you use the team throw while controlling Kiddy, you can throw Dixie far to get items in the air or reach high ledges. And while controlling Dixie, you can't throw Kiddy very high, but his weight can be used to break cracked parts of the floor, revealing hidden passageways, items, or bonuses. Kiddy can also skip on water, which you can do by rolling off a ledge into water, then hitting the B button as you hit the water. This can be hard to master at first, but once you get the timing down, you'll find it useful on more than one occasion.
And as the Kongs are on their adventure, they can get help from various animal buddies. Sadly, Rambi the rhino is gone, along with Rattly the snake, but Engarde the swordfish and Squitter the spider have returned from the previous DKC games to lend you a hand, along with the trusty parrot Squawks, who now comes in two different types. The green Squawks can fly and shoot eggs at enemies, while the purple squawks cannot fly, but can instead pick up barrels and drop them on enemies. There are also two new animal buddies that will assist you along the way: Ellie, an elephant who can suck in barrels that are close to her with her trunk and can suck up and squirt water (though she runs off every time she sees a mouse enemy), and Parry, a small bird that will follow you around for a short time. Keep Parry alive long enough, and he will turn into an extra-life balloon, or sometimes a bonus barrel.
Speaking of, keep your eyes open for bonus barrels! Once again, you need to find those things if you want to beat the game, as each bonus barrel leads to a certain challenge. You will either have to find the bonus coin, collect 15 green bananas, collect stars, or defeat all the enemies. There are 85 bonus coins in total, and if you collect enough, you can unlock stages in the lost world, known as Krematoa. But first you'll have to find Krematoa, because it's hidden underwater!
Speaking of, the overworld in this game is much different from in the first two games. Instead of just pressing a button on the map to move from one world to the next, in DKC3, in order to get to each world, you have to travel across water using a boat, which you get at the beginning of the game from Funky Kong, who now has a boat rental shop open in the overworld. At first, you just have a crappy motor boat, and you can't get past the rocks and waterfalls that keep you from exploring other worlds. However, as you beat each world, you will sometimes get items from the bosses that Funky can use to make better boats, and soon rocks and waterfalls won't be a problem at all.
During your travels, you will come across some of the other Kongs you have seen in previous titles. Wrinkly Kong has retired from teaching at Kong Kollege, and now spends her time inside a cave, working out, napping, and even playing Super Mario 64! Wrinkly appears on every world of the game, and will allow you to save your game, free of charge, unlike in DKC2. Swanky appears in each world too, and hosts a series of games where you play against Cranky Kong and have to throw ping pong balls at targets a certain number of times. Of course, old Cranky is still the memorable, grouchy geezer we all know and love.
But the Kongs are not the only helpful faces you will find in the Northern Kremisphere. In the overworld, and in each of the worlds, you will find the Brothers Bear, a group of friendly bears who you can converse with in various ways. Sometimes, you can trade items with the bears, and sometimes the bears will help you reach certain areas or give you advice, but the main thing that the bears do is provide banana birds. Whether it be from trading items, beating a stage in a certain time limit, or destroying nasty machines, you need to be sure you do whatever is necessary to get banana birds from the bears, as they will be needed to complete the game 103 percent  and unlock the true ending.
You will also need to get all of the bonus coins, unlock Krematoa, pay Boomer Bear bonus coins to open up the lost world stages, beat each lost world stage, and collect every single DK coin and banana bird. Each stage in the game has one DK coin, and there will be an enemy called Koin using the DK coin as a shield. You will need to hit the Koin with a steel barrel in order to collect the DK coin, but make sure to attack from behind, or the Koin will block the barrel with his shield. Sometimes you have to stop and think a bit about how to hit a Koin and get the golden treasure he wields.
So yes, once again, there is an emphasis on collecting stuff in this game, but that isn't a bad thing at all. It means that you will be spending a lot of time searching each stage, and the challenge of getting 103 percent completion will mean hours of tough, yet fun, gameplay. To add to the fun, the stages are designed very well, with some extremely unique gameplay. In one stage, you climb up a rope that has been set on fire and is quickly burning. There is another stage where you swim through the sewers in purplish water that reverses your controls (left is right, right is level). And of course, there's the stage everyone remembers, where you climb up trees while being chased by a gigantic SAW! There's even one stage where you are being stalked by enemy crosshairs, and have to avoid fireballs that are constantly shot at you, while playing as Squitter and dodging some pesky bees.
The bosses in the game are all fun to fight as well, and are very well-designed. The first boss is a belching barrel who you defeat by throwing insects into his mouth, causing him to burp and slide back until he ends up falling into a pit. One of the later bosses in the game is a snowman named Bleak, who you take on in an epic snowball fight, with Bleak resorting to shooting basketball-sized snowballs out of his hat in many patterns.
Of course, one cannot talk about DKC3 without mentioning the graphics or the music. Firstly, this game is just gorgeous, with some of the best graphics I have ever seen. Every stage has a very intricate background, and some stages, like the mill stages and the cliff stages, have backgrounds that look surprisingly realistic, especially for SNES standards. The sprites are top-notch too, as all of the enemies, and particularly the bosses, look great. As for the music, DKC3 has one of the best soundtracks on the SNES. Eveline Fischer composed the music for this game, and she really did a great job with the soundtrack. The music for the water stages is eerie, chilling, and unsettling, the music for the cliff stages has a wonderful guitar section, and the boss theme sounds imposing and threatening. Each song wonderfully fits the situation, just as video game music should.
Bottom line: play. this. game. DKC3 is tough, no doubt about it, as some stages will really test your skill and patience, such as one stage where lightning strikes constantly, threatening to make fried monkeys. Another stage has you climb trees while dodging some very angry and annoying birds called swoopys. But despite the high difficulty, DKC3 is a blast to play, with sublime controls, fantastic stage design, awesome bosses, a glorious soundtrack, and tantalizing graphics. The DKC trilogy holds a special place in my heart, with DKC3 in particular probably being my second favorite game on the SNES. Overall, this is my second favorite game in the trilogy, and because it's the first DKC game I played, it is extremely nostalgic. If you don't have the whole DKC trilogy, you need to get it, even if it means buying an SNES!

Donkey Kong Country 3 Review   TheFadedWarrior
Hey, yo, what do ya know. It's another review from me today! This time I am going to be writing my review on "Donkey Kong Country 3 - Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!", which is, obviously, the 3rd and last (not including DKC Returns) game in the Donkey Kong Country series. Surprisingly, this is only the second review for this game. I hope you read my review and enjoy reading it.
Graphics
Alright, we're gonna start off with the graphics. This is another Super Nintendo Entertainment System game that has great graphics for the console it's on. The game's graphics are not to pixelated, which is nice. You can see good detail in everything you look at, from the Kong Family's fur to the backgrounds. The 3D elements in the game also look great. The animation also looks pretty good too, with a lot of frames so it doesn't look all creepy or whatever. For a final note, the palettes are wide, each containing both dull and bright colors. I give the graphics an 8.
Sound
The sound in this game is really good, too. The sound quality is great, and each music piece perfectly describes the level that it's in. In my opinion, Rare Ltd. made some of the best video game music of its time, especially in the Banjo-Kazooie series and the Donkey Kong Country series. There are many differences in the GBA version's and the SNES version's tunes. There are even some songs that are completely different in one version compared to the other. Here is the full original soundtrack and here is my favorite song. I give the sound another 8.
Gameplay/Addictiveness
The gameplay in this game is great. The game is, as you probably already know, a platformer. You play as some type of primate (not a donkey, most likely an ape), and you have a partner you can switch to any time by pressing select. You can play as Dixie Kong, a female primate that looks like a chimpanzee (which is actually a primate). Her special ability is her ability to use her long hair to slowfall through the air. The other character you can play as is Kiddie Kong, a male primate in his early years. His special ability is his strength, which allows him to throw Dixie Kong at enemies and at ledges. There is a wide variety of enemies to fight. I love playing this game!
With the gameplay being so great, the game is also pretty addictive. It's long (we'll talk more about that in the depth) and keeps calling you back for more. The gameplay and addictiveness deserve an impressive 9.
Story
There's a trio of brothers known as the K. Rools (a play on a misspelling of cruel) that keep capturing Donkey Kong. This time, Baron K. Roolenstein (who actually may not be a brother), an evil scientist that is designed after Frankenstein, has also captured Diddy Kong, rather than just capturing Donkey Kong. Dixie sets out with her cousin Kiddie to rescue them. This game's story is kind of like a story you would expect from a Mario game, but a little more interesting. There are 7 worlds that Dixie and Kiddie have to trial through to save their brothers/cousins: Lake Orangatanga, Kremwood Forest, Cottontop Cove, Mekanos, K3, Razor Ridge, and KAOS Kore. I give the story a 7.
Depth
Like I just barely said at the end of the story section, there are 7 main worlds. There is also 1 secret world, similar to the Lost World in Donkey Kong Country 2. This secret world is Krematoa, which is a pun on the real-life island Krakatoa. There are 5 regular levels and 1 boss level in each world. Razor Ridge actually has 2 boss levels, and the final boss level has 2 bosses in 1 level. It should take a couple days (maybe about 1 week) to complete if you're as good as me and you play for, maybe, 2 hours each day. I give the depth an 8.
Difficulty
Most of the game is about average difficulty, maybe a little easy actually. There's a few really frustrating levels scattered around here and there (Ripsaw Rage, Lightning Lookout, etc.). Most of the bosses are really difficult, though. I understand that bosses are bosses and they are supposed to be difficult, but they are still pretty tough for bosses. I give the difficulty a 6.
Overall
Overall, Donkey Kong Country 3 - Dixie Kong's Double Trouble is a great game for platformers. The graphics are excellent for its era and the music is really good. This game is really fun, and will keep you playing for hours on end. The story is pretty good, the game is pretty long, and it provides just a little challenge, perfect for beginner platformers. If you have not yet gotten the chance to play the last game in the "Country" series, you should definitely find time to plat this game. Overall, I give this game an impressive 8.5.
Thank you for reading another one of my reviews. Feel free to criticize me, as I learn from critics.
