Donkey Kong Country 2 Review   linkmaster99
Well here I am with a review that is actually worth my while. I am going to submit a review on a game I used to own on the game boy advance. I know you hear me say I own a lot of games on the game boy advance, but that is because it is the game system I really grew up with. Well Donkey Kong Country 2 is where Diddy Kong, and Dixie Kong embark on a rambunctious journey. Donkey Kong has been kidnapped by King K Rool, and it is up to the 2 chimps to save him they set off to various islands, and places to go until they meet their fate. Well let me begin my review for this game.
Graphics: 8
Plain and simple this game isn't all that on the looks. To tell you the truth it is actually quite not formidable for the looks. The graphics are good, but I wouldn't just say good. I would say not to shabby. The quality on this game isn't all that good either, and that is because you can really see squares on here like when you see small blocks moving everywhere etc. Well not everywhere but in certain places. Anyways I didn't let the graphics bug me much because after all it is still a pretty fun game.
Sound: 10
To me the sound on this game wasn't half bad. I would give it a perfect score because it really shows me what I am supposed to be listening to. Do understand me, well for each level the sound on there suits that level, and no other song could. That is what I mean by that. I still enjoyed listening to most stuff on this game though. It was great, and it wasn't bad for a old game either so I just continued on playing it that is a logical excuse to keep playing right :D.
Addictiveness: 4
Most parts on this game was addictive but I wouldn't just jump the gun with it though. I only enjoyed a couple of levels on this game so in my opinion I really would give my rating a 4. I don't know what most of you though about this game, but I did understand it well, and they could have improved it, and made it better. I still like it though never the less because, it was a really fun game to play. I really enjoyed taking my time with it, and eventually I beat it. It was fun :).
Story: 5
I guess you could say that the story was pretty good considering he fact that it had some action in it. They showed some crocodiles with swords. I could say I highly enjoyed it. It wasn't the best, but I liked what I saw so far. I also liked the end credits. Well I recognize those as a part of the story to. They had some classical music to it, and they told us everything we seen in the game so far. It was quite enjoyable if you ask me.
Depth: 6
I would honestly say that this game wouldn't have been very long, but I don't see a game over till it is completely over so to me that means side quest to. Well I did beat it, and I did it in no time at all, but the thing that was bugging me was that I had a side quest to tend to, and that took a bunch of time to do. The funny thing is I never finished it either. I need to find all the DK coins in the game. I have to say it was quite complicated, but I managed to get over 50 before I lost the game :P.
Difficulty: 7
During the game I did find this game rather challenging on certain areas, and certain bosses. It was rather difficult, and it took me a while till I managed to beat it. Some places are just wow in a game, but anyone should expect it in any game. All games you will need to take at least 5 times to do a part. Things are not all ways just that easy, but like I said before you will manage. I found that amazing :).
Overall: 9.2
I wrote all of that to prepare for my final decision on this game. I really enjoyed it, and would like to take the trail again. I will, and I will enjoy every last bit of it to. I am happy to play games I haven't seen, or played in ages(Just a expression). I liked it, I had fun reviewing it, and I will be taking some time out to play this again. I actually have memories of this game, and I am happy to remember them as well. Either way though everything I said will still be the same :). I love this game, and I am ready for another legacy on it. Let's just hope that I still got it in me though :P.
I had some fun telling you interesting facts about this game. I also have something to say. If you start this game I highly recommend you pick team because the girl you have on your team is very useful, and could help you out a lot. Well either ways it goes if you are still reading you should not be you should be going out, and spending some viz for this awesome game here. Best of luck to all you ;).

Shiver me Timbers   tornadocam
Shiver me timbers walk the plank matey arrgggh. Okay no do not walk the plank. I'm going to be reviewing and critiquing Donkey Kong Country II for Game Boy Advance. DC II for the GBA is a remake of the original version which was made for the Super Nintendo. I will be comparing the remake to the original. So here we go with the review.
Story: 9
The story for DC II is good and was not changed from the original game. Donkey Kong is on an island beach still celebrating his victory over King K. Rool in the first game. Cranky Kong quickly comments how lazy Donkey Kong has become and how back in his day he did not get to take a vacation. Meanwhile, King K Rool under his new pirate gimmick Kaptain K Rool tells his army to bring Donkey Kong to him. While Donkey Kong is asleep the Kremlings ambush and kidnap Donkey Kong. K Rool leaves the Kongs a note stating if they want Donkey Kong back they are to hand over all of Donkey's bananas. The Kongs are in shock and Diddy Kong quickly says he will go rescue Donkey Kong. Dixie, who is Diddy's girlfriend says she will go with him. The couple sets out to rescue Donkey Kong. However they have to take on the Kremlings on their turf.

I really liked it how Rare, the makers of this game, did not change anything from the original. I thought the story in the original game was amazing and creative. I love the Pirate theme that was done nicely. The only thing is the story gives the bad guy away. It would have been more creative had Rare not revealed K. Rool until the middle of the game. But I guess they did not want to use a fake bad guy like they did in the DK III. So I give the plot a very solid rating of 9 out of 10.
Graphics and Controls: 9
The graphics in DK II for GBA was nicely done and remade nicely. The backgrounds maintained their color as they did in the original game. Also the stages are the same which was nice. Sometimes with remakes the graphics change. The sprites were also nicely done. The only thing is sometimes it seems like the graphics are not as sharp as they were in the SNES. The SNES had very enhanced graphics so it would have been hard to top that. They are a few times in the GBA version were it seems fuzzy. I want to think that is because its on the GBA and not the SNES.
The Controls were very good. The original game had some of the smoothest controls compared to other video games. Only a few Mega Man games had smoother controls than DK II for SNES. In fact, the SNES version had controls that are even better than modern games. I was concerned that the controls might be stiff due to this being on the GBA. I was proven wrong and the controls were very smooth. Also the remake did not have any noticeable lags in it. I was surprised because I was expecting a few lags. Thus, at the end of the day I give the controls and graphics a solid 9 out of 10.
Sound: 10
The sound in DK II for GBA remained unchanged from the original. Rare kept the same sounds from the SNES version. I do not know why Rare had to change the sounds in DK Country III for the GBA, but that is for another review. I got the GBA version after I got the DK III GBA version. After hearing how the sound of DK III was changed from the original game; I just knew they soundtrack in this game would be different. To my surprise it was the same as the original game. The music is just awesome the themes fit their stages nicely. I also like it how the enemies still moan and groan as they are being knocked out. It is also nice how when a Kong is hit they make sounds too. Since the sound track was left unchanged I give it the same rating a did in the original game which was a 10 out of 10.
Replay Value (addictiveness) 9
The replay value in the original version was amazing. I did not want to stop playing the original version. The replay in this version is about the same. DK II for GBA is an awesome game. The plot is good, the graphics are good, and the sound is amazing. Plus the GBA version has a high amount of depth as some things have been added compared to the original version. It makes one not want to put this game down. Of all the DK remakes for the GBA I play this one the most. I give the replay value a 9 out of 10.
Depth: 10
DK II for the SNES had a huge amount depth to it It would be hard to top the original's amount of depth. The remake tops the original in the amount of depth. The depth really shines in the remake. Extra items have been added compared to the original game. There are more coins and more bonus levels to find as well as complete in this game. Also they are more side quests in this game. The original had a lot of bonus levels and a lot of coins to collect. But this version has a lot more. One will need to spend a lot of time to get all bonus levels and all items. It is also so easy to miss a bonus level so stages will need to be revisited. There has even been a secret game added in this area that players get to play if they get enough golden feathers.
This game has so much depth even more than the original version. I really liked that. I like how Rare added more items to collect, more bonus levels to find, and more side games to complete. Depth in video games do not get much better than these.
Difficulty:9
The original version was a difficult game in many ways. The remake also shines on difficulty compared to the original. In the original game it was enemy placement, stage obstacles and trying to find the bonus levels that made the original difficult. This one maintains the same feel. However, they have added more bosses and more levels in this game compared to the original. Also the bosses are more difficult in this game due to the smaller screen. The smaller screen makes bosses' attacks harder to doge. It is also hard to see enemies coming at you or sneaking up on you. The thing that makes this game more difficult is the side games and extra bonus levels to find. The side games are difficult as they are timed. Also finding the bonus levels and items will sometimes take revisiting stages. It will also take time to find all the items. In addition, getting to the bonus levels is not easy as some of them take creativity and skills to reach as well as complete. I also would like to point out a lot of cheat codes the original game had has been done away with. so be prepared to be challenged.
I really like games that offer a challenge like this game does. I was challenged when I played the original version. I was shocked how the difficulty is harder in this game. However, I like games that test your skills and creativity. It makes the game more special when it is challenging. The game does try to help you out as you can get hints from visiting certain Kong members. The hints will tell you how to defeat bosses and were items are located. That kind of helps and keeps the difficulty from being a perfect 10 out of 10. Still this game is difficult and as such I give it a 9 out of 10.
Overall Rating: 9.2
I remember getting the original version for the SNES around 1996. I had a blast playing the SNES version. The original version was very good. I got the GBA version I want to think in 2004 or 2005. I had fun playing this version. I really though the makers of this game did a good job remaking it. I liked how the depth and difficulty was upped in this game. I also liked it how they did not change the soundtrack of this game like they did in DK III for GBA. I got DK III for GBA before I got DK II for GBA. As I mentioned earlier Rare changed DK III's soundtrack. So I was relieved that DK II for GBA's soundtrack was the same as the original game. I enjoyed playing this version when I got it and I still enjoy playing it today. I also liked the pirate theme it just makes the game more cooler. I was glad they kept the same theme as the original. Arggh Shiver me Timbers!!!!!
Now, this game was good but it did have a few minor issues. One of the issues was the graphics looked a little fuzzy at times. I knew it would have been hard to top the original's version graphics, but sometimes the graphics in this version seemed fuzzy. I guess the graphics looked a little fuzzy at times because this is a Game Boy version and not the Super Nintendo version. Also the small screen can make seeing things a little bit tougher. It is harder to see enemies trying to attack you as well as finding bonus levels. So the small screen can be a problem sometimes. But again that is due to this being a Game Boy game.
If you missed out on playing the SNES version than this is a good game to pick up. If you are like me and got to play the SNES version when it first came out, than this game is still a good remake. I have played both versions. Both are very good. I give the original a higher edge, because it is just so special. The original would be very hard to top. I want to think I gave the Original rating a 9.6 or something close to that. However, this is very close to the original minus the issues I mentioned above. Would I recommend this game? By all means I would recommend this game. I would also recommend you play the original version as well though. As I stated I like to play both versions and I recommend both. The minor issues bring the rating down some but not by much. I give the Game Boy Advanced Version a solid rating of 9.2. So play both versions of Donkey Kong Country II you will not be disappointed. I hope you enjoy this game like I did and I also hope you have fun playing it.
Happy Gaming and Blessings in Christ  and Shalom
