Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers! Dragoon26
Sometimes, some crimes, go slipping through the cracks... like you not having played this game. Back in the Golden Age of the late 80's and early 90's, two great things were taking place at once. One was Capcom, the other was "Disney Afternoon" cartoons.
Capcom had a massive hit with Megaman. They also had other great games during their NES careers. Yo-Noid, Little Nemo the Dream Master and Bionic Commando being amongst my favorites.
Disney Afternoon was a 2 hour, 4 show block of awesome. Shows came and went and your favorite line up most likely depends on your age, but mine was Duck Tales, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin then Darkwing Duck.
These two teamed up to make all 4 of these games (plus others) and the rest as they say, is history.
This review will focus on Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers or as my review will call it... CDRR.
Story - You start off the game trying to find your neighbor Mindy's lost pet. Gadget goes off ahead to look for clues and is captured by Fat Cat, who of course set up the whole thing. So your real goal through out the 11 levels is to rescue Gadget and eventually stop Fat Cat.
7/10 Gameplay - Chip and Dale can work alone, or together at once (Way more fun with 2 people). You attack by throwing anything you can pick up; Apples, boxes, concrete blocks? You can also defend by hiding in boxes you hold. The whole game you will be picking something up and throwing it at something, but it works.
8/10Depth - The two player aspect is the main depth in CDRR, not much besides that. You don't have to play every level to get to Fat Cat's Casino, but you can choose to play every level if you wanted to. A bonus game is after the levels but it lasts roughly 5 seconds. It's your classic NES game.
5/10Graphics - You can tell who the characters and bosses are with no problems. The enemies look pretty decent and although some boards may feel similar, none are the same. The game also has cut scenes to help it out here but overall just average.
7/10Sound - Capcom always had catchy 8-Bit tunes. This one isn't lacking in quality either.... just quantity. You have your CDRR Theme at the beginning and end. Then a few songs for the levels that jump back and forth. Fat Cat's Casino has its own music and the song is sweet. It's like a reward for making it to the end! Lack of variety knocks the overall score down slightly.
8/10Addictiveness - Very. Especially if you have 2 players. It's a fast paced game with lots of things to collect while trying to find life and extra guys. It is a rather short game, I probably beat it once or twice a year.
9/10Difficulty - Once you get the hang out it, the game doesn't seem that difficult. However, two spots near the end of the game will challenge even veteran gamers. For that it gets a bump up.
8/10

RESCUE RANGERS AWAY!!!! Azul Fria
OVERVIEW
The even Fat Cat is on the loose and he and his henchmen are out to cause some trouble. It is up to the dynamic duo of chipmunks, Chip and Dale to put an end to his dastardly plans and restore the piece. Along with their sidekicks, Monterey Jack, Gadget, and Zipper you go through a total of 11 levels of platforming action mayhem.
GRAPHICS - A+
The graphics are colorful and features a lot of identifiable things that stand out that tells you if they are harmful or not for the most part. A given example are the cacti and the nails that spell out danger just by looking at them. The pencils may look sharp but they do not hurt you if you touch the tip of them. Some other good use of graphics are the flowing water in Section B and the blowing fans in Section J. The cutscenes are also well detailed but the very best graphic you will notice is how detailed they made Dale's shirt. They did a very good job on that. The big bosses have tons of great detail most notably the Fat Cat fight where they manage to capture all of his whiskers.
GAMEPLAY - A+
There are 11 levels total to play. Some of these levels are not even necessary to play. In fact the only ones that need to be played are all except Sections A, C, and E. Each level has its own set of gimmicks from having electrical wires in section 0, a toy store section in section D, a big upward climb in sections E, F, and J, and a boiling pot section of doom in section B. Not all sections have bosses. You merely beat the level by reaching a certain checkpoint. Each boss has a set pattern you can exploit in order to defeat them quicker although the section D boss is hard to dodge all of its falling ball attacks. In all, each boss will be defeated in five hits.
SOUND/MUSIC - A
I definitely enjoy the music in this one. Each of the tracks matches the level you are playing in. The best one I like the most is the Section B music where it has that 1940s swing music feel where you can do one of those jitterbug dances where you got your hand on your hip and wagging for finger and spinning around slowly. Other songs that are good to listen to is Section J and Section E (which shares its song with another section I can't remember). When it is all said and done, completing a level will play a tune that will make you feel all high and mighty.
REPLAYABILITY - B
This is a good game to play with a 2nd player. When one player dies, they will come in on a balloon, and be invincible for a set amount of time. This allows the other player to advance the game a little further undaunted. You can also pick up the other player and carry them with you to get through sections faster if you are playing with someone less experience or going for speed run strats. There are also those other extra levels you can try out too that you may have skipped the first time around.
OVERALL - A
All and all, this game gets my seal of approval for a good game to try out. So much stuff to try out and it is not a easy walk in the park as the game will let on to be. Beware of section J (the last level) those hat throwing lizards and the plunger shooting wizards are tough to handle but do not let that discourage you. Once you get past them then Fat Cat is free if you are careful.
