"Unreleased Idea's that could've shaken one resolve"
Everyone know that one shaking fear, when you have something you see and want so much as a child but then it has to go away...whether it was lost, destroyed, or was just randomly quit during production; we all know that stinging feeling that maybe if this one thing has just come out a few things could be better and one argument could've never held up. The SEGA GENESIS Vs the puny Nintendo Entertainment System which was named for not being as cool as the cutting edge Sega Genesis with it's "new" blast processing capabilities; yet everyone bought into the campaign without giving it much thought...and it seemed as though Nintendo's fame might be kicked out the window. But, was everything said actually true or was it just played out without having even tested the limits of the system? .....*smirks and shakes head* Sadly for those of you out there but this theory could've been so easily crushed with a certain game set to come out before Sonic The Hedgehog's quills got windy for adventure.

This dream would've come through and put a stain on their messaging from their ads; however, this as unbearable for the creators...had to be cancelled...what would happen to this game? What was it like as we sat and wondered looking at our Nintendo Power magazines for any piece of information? Could this one game have changed everything? Let's dive into the world of the unknown and relinquished ideas in gaming! Let's find out our Bio Force Ape. *jumps down tunnel and prepares for long fall*

     __                                                                                            __
     |_|~ Though not all eye catching, does have one interesting detail ~|_|

Looking at this game you probably won't be that impressed especially for 1991 as it's a very basic NES style look when compared to games like Mega Man and/or Kid Icarus which are more detailed in the backgrounds and sprites; but, to be honest the game looks more so like Metal Gear or Zelda II which both don't look that amazing in detail. Since the game was never officially released I can't give details about a whole lot of levels but I can give you 2 level descriptions as nicely as I can for you all.

      |~-___ Sewer System? ___-~|

The first level I would believe to be a Sewer type area with all its scenery as follows: "Covered background with pipelines and bridge channels just surrounding your environment as bee's and madmen from this waste plant try to stop you from your progression, with stone platforms and speed platform being your only mean of transportation through this dank and smelly area!" Though if my intuition is correct that's...quite a strange way to start you off in the game. The next area we'll describe is...
          _____                          ______
         /|/|_/ Mining Tunnels? /_/|/|/|

If you weren't being thrown around in your ape head enough with the first level, scenery, and WWE type fighting styles to this game then prepare to mine deeper inside this wonderful yet strange landscape. Immediately after passing your first destination you're throw into a minecart, flying through mineshafts, before being shot off at the end meeting new foes to tackle and pin to the....granite....of the area. With wooden boxes surround the background and the hard rock flooring feels almost as if this place hadn't been seen for years. Rushing with the air resistance passing through your fur it's one speed area and quite a sight to see when traveling through your adventure. So the graphics have improve and seem to with each passing level.

Based on everything that I could find and seeing how the looks manage throughout the game, I'd say that this deserve a fair 7 out of 10 since the first level kind of does snag it down a bit...but WAIT! There's one other thing I must talk about with graphics and that's the so called "speed" of this system and the game when compared to Sega's "Blast Processing" with Sonic the Hedgehog, funny thing is though...this game actually moves A LOT faster than that game or at the very least equal speed because unlike Sonic you don't need speed sneakers to run fast as when you jump, run in one direction, or just roll around you'll speed up a bunch. So would this have stopped that idea? Maybe so but..eh that's not the point here, moving on.

/_ _ Sound very distinct from what you'd expect (|/)

This games soundtrack is definitely strange when compared to Zelda or Mario as each intro to the 3 songs is exactly the same but then changes immediately following the introduction, I'll try to describe it as best as I can for you with each of the levels. However, before I choose to do that I will say that the sound effects themselves are similar to typical beat em up games from the 80's so don't wait in suspense for ear-tuning beats as you punch that fool at the edge of the level.

           |-/-| Sewer? |-/-|

After having just started the game and been tossed down the top of platform, you're greeted to the powerful and beating music that flows throughout the dirty and strange area. The beat is almost speaking to you as if it's saying: "well....you certainly feel down a long way..yet you sustained no real injuries? You have a long way to go so get back up! Make sure that you don't lose your perspective on where to go haha". Just really beatful yet degrading to the player on how you feel from that first scene.

          *_* Mining Area *_*

Once making it through that mess of a level and being shot into this one the tone of the music changes significantly going from a joking tone at you while pumping you up at the same time this one is more mysterious and making you want to think more about scenarios or tactics to use. The best way that I can feel to describe this one even though I don't want to keep bringing up other games this music reminds me most of the third level in Contra where it's upbeat but the tone make you think like stated above making sure you don't mess up.

        [_] Final Area [|]

At the peak of what you've been reaching for the music starts to pick up in cheerfulness and is more lively compared to the more so downbeat music from before, it's also more calm than earlier as well resembling what you would think in a side scroller water level or space area. The last game I'll use to reference how this music feels...it would have to be the underground levels to Super Mario Bros, dark and creepy with enemies crawling around but still making you push through to the end. Good job here Seta!

That's all I can say for music and sound since there aren't any other themes to this game, but since it was never officially finished/produced it's not really that big of a shock to find that happening. But from what I have heard it's definitely a great and refreshing kind of music for the system, so all in all I'd say the music deserves an 8 out of 10 for effort.

+++__ Unsure and Questionable gameplay __+++

Probably the most difficult thing to judge about this game...how fun is it? Well....for both depth and addictiveness for how long you'll be playing the game definitely isn't high since this only playable prototype has 3 levels....yes I'm not joking it has only 3 levels...but; when you had to quit while in production I guess you can't really fault the creators for this game for that. On note of the actual gameplay it's more of typical linear game where you run from start to finish while pummeling foes in your way which sadly, there aren't that many of them scattered through the 3 maps? Kind of makes this game just a simple run through. Added to that there are no collectibles or anything you need to find along the way meaning that completionists definitely won't find many thing interesting with this game just added to the pain.
The second arguable fact is the controls/features of the game, as stated above, you can go really fast from just walking and when you just you burst off in speed...this makes it hard to jump from platform to platform as you can very easily overshoot a platform or miss it completely because you didn't jump far enough. You have a map you can see by pressing select and moving the D-Pad to see the four quadrants of the entire area...this map isn't that great in guiding you either since you may look at it and think that there's a gap but instead it turns out to be a wall or a place that has no meaning or value to where you need to head. Granted this is an unfinished game but sadly besides the music and a few redeeming factors about the music, this game doesn't have much going for it in terms of fun action and hours of entertainment so the addictiveness only earns a 4 out of 10.

  Story: N/A

You may think that even with a somewhat poor prototype, that you may get some sense of what your goal is in the story but no details were really given about the story upon Bio Force Ape so not much can be said about the game here. I can make on guess of speculation off of the intro that plays from the title screen as follows: "you see a  shady crook or burglar coming and taking 2 people away in a van and pushing ape away, as he then turns into Bio Force Ape". I like to interpret this as: "a burglar/crook captures the scientist (maybe?) and his daughter away leaving his creation (Ape) on the floor, kicking and pounded before leaving with his creator. Enraged! Ape turns into Bio Force Ape from being genetically altered beforehand and swears to bring them back. He also appears to be a fan of boxing or wrestling since he throws enemies and does moves similar to wrestling stunts.

There is No official story however, so I'm regrettably am having to leave this with an N/A mark...sorry fans.

      |= Short intro, No Story, Unfinished dilemma =|

I've explained many many times now that this game wasn't finished and if any section is going to be used for that it's going to have to be the depth as there's not that much to discuss with this game besides theories or speculations on what it could've been compared to what it is now all broken and unfinished..like an unfinished treehouse that you're always promised to have finished at one point in time. With only 3 levels in the game that already strikes you as having your goosebumps attack the ape fur covering your body, what's even more sad about it though is that these levels at most can be finished within 2-3 min making the game if you know what to do only 8-10 min long at most which as you could probably tell definitely would NOT have been worth buying back then. Since most games back then would've at least given you several hours of continuous gameplay and not just minutes. With a lackluster amount of depth, not a ton of music variety, the depth for the sad unknown game can only be given a 3 out of 10

        {Difficulties with controls and features, showing speed isn't everything}

On the main surface of this game it's not really that difficult on what you need to do similar to Mario Bros or River City Ransom; although, with the lackluster amount of enemies it drops the games level of fair difficulty down a lot...but that may lead you to wonder why the difficulty I've listed is still high correct? It's as simple as what this review has blathered on about for a while which is the controlling of Bio Force and the map unreliability. Between jumping from one platform to the next and failing having to climb back all the way there again just for a second chance because you pressed the d-pad and A button a little too hard or you overshot the jump due to what your instincts would tell you to do in a normal game but in the end sadly flunk you in this game. This adds a huge layer of unfair difficulty to the bunch causing me to leave the score at an (Unfair) 7 out of 10.  Just goes to show that speed isn't everything Sega...

That's the mystery behind this elusive game which has been talked about for ages since it's unveil at the hands of Nintendo's magazine, sure we may never know how this game was supposed to turn out and how or homebrew version isn't exactly the best thing for the player either. But, at least we got to see some things about the gameplay and live that experience even to the tiniest of ape bits....just a shame this gem can never be polished and brought to its glory like intended...as it probably could've fixed a lot of these issues given more time and another chance on a different system. Too bad...its family didn't get to see...it's bio force ape.

The only real complaint I have about this game is the jumping. It's broken. That and the fact that the map doesn't always match what's going on in the game.

It's not bad. Some quirks, but hard to complain about a game that was never finished. Sad that it was never released due to being scrapped at the end of the NES lifespan. Would have been awesome!

thus game is actually realy fun
