The best Batman game before Arkham... Kyle!
Warning: This review was written by a BFF (Batman Fan Forever) , this review may have extreme fanboy moments... Viewer discrestion is advised...
OK now, so yeah Batman : Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are super awesome (That's why I own them, and if you don't have a copy of either game you better go to the local game store and start living!) but what was the best Batman game before it? Batman Returns answers that question, so there were TONS of other versions on the other consoles but the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) version wins by a long shot. I gave it a 10/10 in because it is a magnificent game and is well rounded, the graphics were great for the SNES, the sound was great, the story was pretty awesome (What's better than playing as an alter ego Billionaire name Bruce Wayne fight crime during Christmas beating clowns to a pulp? Just about nothing!) , the game was very addicting making me come back again and again.... So yeah, I have found a game that shows advancement in graphics for games, features Batman (My favorite DC Comics hero, not superhero. Batman/Bruce Wayne isn't a mutated guy with powers-just a yes-sir-butler, a armored tank, crazy awesome detective skills, and finally martial arts mastery!) , doomed clown goons, and a reason to go through all my Batman comics and watch Batman Begins, The Dark knight (The dark knight should' have been called "The Joker" for god's sake) , and watch The Dark knight Rises on release night in theaters. (Again off subject) So if you're
Just getting into Batman, or a long-time fan like my uncle and me, this game will make you tear up because it's beauty (Fanboy moment).
Sincerely, Kyle Parker Griffith

batman returns (snes) Awesome5000
Batman Returns is a arcade style beat em up game similar to final fight ,which takes place in the blazing cold winter on the streets of gotham city .Fight through the streets ,rooftops ,the circus train ,drive the batmobile and reach up to penguins lair .On your journey you will have to go through all of penguins henchmen, clowns bosses, including catwoman .Punch, kick, throw enemies shoot baterangs, throw back bombs that get thrown at you before they blow,or even hand it to em (if done in time) .Mostly all levels you can walk up ,down ,left and right but some levels will turn into side scrolling like kung fu for nes and can only jump shoot baterangs ,batmans grappling hook or even your bomb special (kicks and punches disable for those levels) batman returns for the snes follows the movie pretty well and is another good job by konami .

Best Batman game until the Arkham series! BestGamer24
Batman returns for the SNES,the best Batman game until the Ark ham series. Let's take a look at one of the best beat them up games ever made.
Graphics - 9: Pretty good for SNES. The game is very well detailed for the environment to the characters. The game on different stages provides really cool looking lighting effects like when a building catches on fire, it looks like you're in an area lit up entirely by fire, there's a section of the game where you're fighting in some abandoned building and it's really dark.
Sound - 7: Sounds are good, I liked them, but I'm not sure about anyone else. The sound effects are pretty average for a SNES game, no weird glitches or just off sounding effects.
Addictiveness - 9: This game is really addictive, you can spend a while playing this, not much else to say.
Story - 9: The story follows the movie quite well, from the Cat woman boss fight, to The Penguin. There are also a couple of levels that aren't related to the movie, but it's still great.
Depth - 4: The game is divided into 7 stages, which takes about 5 - 10 minutes to beat each stage. It takes about one hour to beat the game. A few stages are Bat-mobile stages, the rest are on foot. The games not long at all, but in 1992, games weren't long at all.
Difficulty - 6: The game can get hard at some points. Bosses in the game are pretty cheap. An early fight with Cat woman gives you little room to move around and Cat woman's fast moves can slice up the slow Batman in a flash. One nice touch is that you get to see an expanded ending depending on which difficulty you beat the game at--I was able to get to the final Penguin boss on the highest difficulty mode, but couldn't defeat him.
Overall - 9: I like this game! It's very fun, addictive, and challenging. If you like beat-them-ups, Batman Returns is worth finding--and, over 10 years later, it still remains one of the best Batman games (not saying much, considering the competition).

BATMAN RETURNS punkrock85
Frigid winter winds swept over an already chilled Gotham City.
Random street crimes were running at an all-time high, despite the
holidays. Down below, in the city's frozen sewers, Oswald Cobblepot,
known as The Penguin, planned more mayhem and schemed the take over of
the frightened metropolis. His loyal army of missile-packing Penguin
Commandos and the bizarre Red Triangle Circus Gang are energized by the
evil genius of the web-footed orphan. A desperate call to Batman goes
up.
Or so says the description of this game... Batman Returns. To begin with, this is one of the best games that was ever put on the SNES. A perfect 10. As a fan of Batman I was presently surprised to see this on here. I have a lot of Batman comics and love the movie this is based on as well. As a Batman game it excels. As a movie adaptation it does pretty good too. Graphics are some of the best the SNES has ever seen. The sounds of the game are minimal with Batman themed music and standard beat em up sounds. It is highly addictive as you will find yourself wanting to play this game more and more. The story is great, ripped right out of the movie. A decent adaptation that sees Batman fighting thugs from the Red Triangle gang, Catwoman and Penguin. It takes a while to play as there are 7 stages. The game can also be difficult as shooting the bat-grapple is tricky and fighting the last 2 bosses can be frustrating.
Overall, this is a very good game. A very fun and addictive beat em up and is great for Batman fans. PLAY THIS NOW!
