my first rpg hongeee
actually, this is not the first Rpg i encounter. back in my childhood times, console system is not something everyone affordable (i was from Malaysia). but i am lucky enough to own a system that play Nes games. not famicom or nintendo entertainment system, lol. its was actually a knock off product. (like polystation if you know what i mean).
so i am quite familiar with 8bit games, without internet or game magazine subscription,i have no idea what is going on in world of gaming. unaware of 16bit system or CD system until in mid 90s,playstation hit the scene. one day i went into game store and saw this... FINAL FANTASY 7 omg..its like watching a movie and the summoning cut scene and this and that wow,its just the best thing i ever saw in gaming at the time.
eventually i able to get myself a second hand playstation like a year later, but too bad i cant get the game cause its not on sale anymore. buy and trade or buying second hand game is not available back then,so i just see what is available and i found this WILD ARMs. a rpg game. what the heck is RPG?? (no idea FF7 was rpg too,i just thought it was a fighting game with many nice cut scene) but i brought it anyway, never ever thought that a game is so much story telling, and last longer than 15 mins lol..
and now the game story... a world called filgaia,is dying after a long war thousand years ago. an alien race came and try to make this planet their new home. three races that exist on falgaia fight them off and drive them to the edge of the world. even they won the war, falgaia was damge greatly by the war and life began wither.
player will gain control of three character, main protagonist a boy who wields a forbidden weapon "ARMS" named Rudy Roughnight. Jack van burace who is a sword master and treasure hunter accompany by hanpan (a mouse creature). and Cecillia van adlehyde,a princess who able to cast powerful magic. starting off with their own story, some how they brought together by a local scientist who needs help after they discover an ancient ruin. after the excavation, the demons from the north (those who fled to the edge of the world) attacked. they have come the a jewel "Tear Drop" that cecillia holds. the demons need it to revive their ruler. and now, these three adventures must go on a journey across filgaia to retrieve the precious jewel, and the adventure begin.
game play; through out the game you will randomly encounter enemies as you running across the world map or dungeon. defeating them will gain exp that will level up character, gella (game money) which you can purchase items/weapons. sometimes they will have weapon/armor/item drops too. you will wandering around the world map, visiting town and village, talking to people and gather information. its just the usual common stuff like other rpgs.
what special about this game is the puzzle solving. each character have different tools to help you with it like rudy has bomb to blast away obstacle.jack able to send his pet, hanpan to get unreachable items and cecilia able to travel back to time. beside that this game offers many side quest. you will spend hours to find hidden items such a rune (summon creature to aid in your fight) hidden abilities for jack, and magic for cecilia. not to mention there are tons of mini story and special weapon and armor.
boss fight is not too difficult. some is pain in the a** but you can over come this by exp farming for 1 or 2 hour. the game also generous with important items like heal and magical items as long you know where to find them. there are many missable items but it wont stop you from completing the game.
overall, its a good classic rpg,its nothing to compare with today games like final fantasy 13 or metal gear series but consider back in late 90s,they done a good job.today,i think this is an under-appreciated game that laying under big games like FF7. i would say for every rpg fan should give this game a try!
