Star Wars: Republic Commando Featured Review

Star Wars: Republic Commando Review by: darthyoda - 9/10

Republic Commandos, FIGHT!
This is one of the earliest Tactical Shooters I have ever heard of. It came out 2005 and was developed and published by LucasArts! (The creators of all Star Wars and Indiana Jones related games.) This one has great replay value, if you can get the multiplayer to work, this could be much better. (I haven't really checked into it that much.) You have a WIDE variety of guns to use. 5 or 6 different grenades, and several ways to complete each mission. The songs, the story, the feel, is all Star Wars, so just lay back, and enjoy this short glimpse into a Galaxy Far, Far away.

Side Note, before I start: You are part of a 4 man Elite Commando Squad, this entire game is about you and is from your perspective.

Disclaimer: This game will be in your life until you shut your Computer off! If you don't wish to be continually playing this game, DON'T GET IT!

Graphics: The graphics are really good, especially for a 2005 game. The game rivals some of the newer games that came out in the last few years. Compared to other Star Wars games, I would say that it has better graphics than Star Wars Battlefront II. The game has good design, especially detailed in your enemies. I don't see my Three companions that much, as I usually  lead them into the battle, I don't hang back. But when I do see them, they have great detail. I find that all of the functions are great. Your visor has three modes, Tactical, Normal, Low Light. I prefer the Tactical. The visor also wipes off the oil from the droids, if you melee them, and the "blood" from the Trandosians or Geonosians. (The blood is green which isn't really realistic, but it's Star Wars, come on folks.) I will get on with the review now! (I think you get the point.)
The game has some of the best I've seen in a Star Wars game (I haven't tried the Force Unleashed) so I give it a 9/10.

Sound: As with any other Star Wars game, it has some of the best music ever made. I really love John Williams' songs! But, they did add some songs, which I don't find in the 6 Star Wars movies, which is also nice! The guns have great sound, and I even find that they are better than the guns in Star Wars Battlefront. (Which will be a major comparison throughout the review.) The Sonic Grenades, the Thermal Detonators and other types of grenades have awesome sound too!  The voice acting is good, but some of the lines get a little old. (For instance) "Hold your guts for a minute while I rip out theirs." I know this might not sound too bad, but after hearing it countless times, it get old really fast. But it is something that shouldn't happen too often, if you don't get "Incapacitated" which in this game means that you have been killed, but you can still be revived by a Teammate nearby. (This makes the game more fun, because as long as someone on your team is alive, you still can fight through the level.) But that is enough here.
The game has great sounds, with Star Wars Soundtracks, Voice Acting and many other things I give ita 10/10.

Addictiveness: The game is really hard to stop. It seems like a game I could play all day long. (And into the night hours too!) This is very uncommon for me. I love games, but this one seems to take the cake. It's replay value is really amazing. I shared it with a friend, and he is just as excited about it! This game is one of the most addicting game in my 50 game collection on Steam (Of the games I have played it is one of the most addicting.) I wouldn't say it has a non-linear style game play, but it is still fun to play. I will go into more detail in the next few categories.
I find this game VERY addictive. I give it a 10/10.

Story: At first it seems like it has little story, but actually it has a good one. After three levels it seems to reveal itself more. It isn't you typical game story, where you only have the main characters in the story. It's more like, we completed this mission, and this is another one. But that doesn't make it lame. In fact, they (LucasArts) did a great job at it. The story starts out with your training, which gives a greater perspective on the start of a clone. I won't really go into detail, because I may be taking the movies into the story too much. (Even though you really don't have a great part in that part of the story.)
The game doesn't have the greatest story, but it's not bad for a FPS game. I give it an 8/10.

Gameplay/ Controls: The game handles smoothly, but I found the melee and use button were not in the right spot. But I changed it to the customary place. This is minor. The rest of the controls are normal, but can you really expect them to have the standard down, if the game was before many of the popular FPS games? This is about all I have to say here, so I will give it my rating now.
The game handles really smooth, and the odd controls are excusable, and therefore I give it a 10/10.

Depth: The game, as far as I know, doesn't have much more than single player and multiplayer, but I haven't really explored much more than the game story itself. As far as the story mode itself, the game doesn't have a linear feel, but it actually is. But this is common in shooters, which is what one should expect even from a Tactical shooter... I feel as though you can beat each level in a different way, but still you can't make a flanking maneuver (I haven't really tried, 'cause it's not my style. I love the game, but it's because of the music, the story, the addictive qualities...
I give depth a 7/10.

Difficulty: The game has it's hard moments. I wouldn't call it hard all the time, but because some of the parts are really hard, I give it a higher rating. The hardest part comes when you die, and the team dies right after or before you. This makes it a "restart at last checkpoint..." Which isn't bad, because you learn new stuff. If you tell your team to clear the area, focus fire on this target, cancel this order, take the turret and fire on the enemies, etc the game gets much easier! The difficulty really depends on how good your team is used. This makes the rating hard to place. I think that that is all I have to say, so I will give the last rating, and the summary!
This game seems hard to rate here, but nonetheless, I will give it a rating. I give it an 8/10.

Overall: Maybe the ratings are off, but I really LOVE this game. I wouldn't rate it at any other rating. This game is just awesome! If you don't have it, which I will assume you don't because it's not that popular, you won't know what I am talking about. This has to be one of the most underrated games I have played. (Second to Mirror's Edge...) But, enough of this, I give it a 9/10. This rating should be higher, but because the story only pulled a 7, it gets a lower rating then it should.
