Great RACING GAME!! jaws123
I own this game on my Nintendo 64 at home so that's how i know about this game. It seems not many people know this game is here. Part of the purpose of the review is to encourage people to play this awesome game. So here it goes...
GRAPHICS: 9/10
I have experienced no glitches in this game. The graphics are really good for Nintendo 64. The graphics work well with the intense speed of the game. All the animations are clear and writing is legible. Good Graphics.
SOUND: 10/10
While intense racing it's really nice to here the sounds of your pod racer. When you bump the sides there is a crashing noise and your character riding the pod racer yells. You can taunt the other racer by double tapping the R button. That is cool because the language depends on what character you have, it's different for each. The sounds of the engine running revving is very captivating. The sounds really help make the experience better.
ADDICTIVENESS: 10/10
I really enjoyed playing this game as a young kid. It was my favorite game along with zelda ocarina of time. I was truly addicted. Whats more addicting then racing at 500-700 mph around corners with other racers? When you beat a map you get a new character to race with. Each character's pod racer has different stats with their speed, acceleration and such. You can buy parts from the shop which is surprisingly very addictive.
STORY: 1/10
Unfortunately, i had to rate the story a zero. There really isn't any story. But that can't take away from the overall rating because a racing game really doesn't need a story. Different maps and planets to beat is enough for me.
DEPTH: 4
I really wish there were more maps. There is a lot of maps but even after beating all of them i wanted more. There is a lot of play time involved. I'd say about 7 hours if you are a skilled racer. Not that that's a lot compared to games like zelda.
DIFFICULTY: 9/10
On your first time this game gets tough. The AI is really good. There is always a certain pod racer that will always win for each map if you don't beat them. When you select the map there is a picture of the map favorite, that is the racer that will get first if you don't beat him. This game can get VERY frustrating. I have had times when i through the remote and quit playing for the rest of day when it was the last lap and i would make a mistake and crash.
OVERALL: 8.8/10
Overall great game. The sounds really help keep you going and pull you into the experience. You can't help but spend all the money you earn racing on parts to make your favorite character the ultimate racer. Don't play this game if you can't handle losing a lot. You will most likely lose a bunch on your first time. I recommend this game to everyone. YA its that good!

One of my favorite games for N64 thing1
This is one of the first games
I ever beat, and I did it on a real Nintendo 64, back when I was ten and eleven
years old. It took me awhile to do so, but it was well worth it. I really
enjoyed playing the game on my special edition controller with my rumble pack.
I will attempt to do a proper review.
So here it goes.
I am giving the graphics an eight (8).
I give this game an 8 in
graphics because the graphics are phenomenal for the games time. The
green fog on one track on one of the last... Grand Pres, or Series, which ever
you prefer, is epically awesome. And then you got the dirt, the looks of the
menu, the scrap shop. It is all amazing. The reason I am not giving it a ten, or
even a nine, is because of a few reasons: the first one being the city looks.
The "crowd", so to speak, is not the best. Granted, the actual people
in the crowd did not even show up until I believe NBA 2K6. And another reason
being it looks sort of pixilated in some areas.
I am giving the sound a respectable six
(6).
My reasoning for this is
that the sound quality is sketchy at times. There is not an option for music
during game play, which really disappointed me, and still does.
However, the reason it is getting a six is because it does have some title
screen sounds, and during actual game play, you can hear the voices of the
characters. The sound is good, but the quality is not as great. My
rating might be a little higher if there was actually some music during game
play.
I am giving the addictiveness of this
game a bold eight (8).
My reasoning for this
being is that I love racing games. If I actually enjoy the game, then it is
safe to say that the game is at least half-way respectable. I like that you can
go back and improve your stats, instead of having to restart the entire thing,
and then you can also change characters and pods without being forced to finish
the series. That definitely adds towards the replay value and, ultimately
resulting in addictiveness. However, the reason it is not getting a full ten
(10) in addictiveness is that at times, you cannot go skip one race in a single
Grand Pre. You have to beat that race in order to move on. And that frustrated
me.
I am going to give this game a nice nine
(9) for story.
For a racing game that’s
not a street racing game where you can drive around the city, this game
actually has some story to it. The farther you go along, the more people you
can use, and the better the parts are that you can buy for your pod racer. You
have to win in order to earn money, in order for you to buy parts for your pod
racers. Had it not been a racing game, it would have received a much lower
score. But for an old school racing game, the story line is pretty decent.
For this game, I am going to give it a ten (10) in the department of depth.
The game is no easy task
to complete all way, in terms of getting all the characters and pods and parts without
cheat codes and hacks. The game offers a lot. It offers great game play,
addictiveness is pretty good. I know there is not much of a story line for this
game, and I had some trouble beating a certain race. I would play the game for
maybe an hour a day every day during the summer one year. The one track that I
mentioned above, dealing with the green... took me almost one hundred tries
just to get the darned banner to go on to the next track for that Series. It
has some great characteristics, and it will take a while to beat it entirely.
For this game, I am giving the
difficulty a seven (7).
If you know how to play
racing games, then only a few tracks should frustrate you. If you are trying to
start doing racing games with this one... that is a bad idea. Try something
like Cruising USA or Maybe Mario Kart 64. Some of the tracks are pretty
easy, while others are very hard. So to combine the novice video game racers
and expert racers such as myself I think a seven (7) would fit best.
All in all, I am going to give this
game a nine point six (9.6) for overall. I loved this game, and it is still one
of my favorite Nintendo 64 games of all times, right up there with Mario Kart
64 and Super Mario 64, among a few others.
If you have any questions on how or why
I rated the way I did, please feel free to comment on this thread. Thank YouNote: edited for grammar at 10:04 A.M on 4/11/2012

The Only Good Thing to Come Out of the Prequels... kabenon007
Podracing will long be known as the best thing that came out the three Star Wars prequels, and this game captures the feel conveyed in that short sequence in the movie and stretches it to encompass an entire game, filled with Star Warsie goodness.
That was my favorite part of this game, the atmosphere. The selection menus, the markets where you buy parts, though simple menus, are drenched in Star Wars flavor. Pit droids walk by, you're in a cantina, whatever. What could have been simple menu selections becomes something more thanks to the attention of the developers in putting Star Wars flavor into every aspect of this game.
And it is a large game. There are so many courses to race (though some feel like retreads of previous tracks) but each one is a blast to race through. The tracks are never just simple dirt courses; no no these tracks go underwater, across chasms, which lends itself to the epic feel that Star Wars necessitates. And the sheer speed in which you zip around these tracks is enthralling as well. You have to hand it to the developers, they really capture the nail-biting, nausea-inducing speed characteristic of the movie race.
In addition there are a wide variety of Pods to choose from, and they all look wonderful. Performance is different between the Pods, but that can be changed by purchasing parts for your Pod, to increase its speed or handling for example.
My biggest complaint that I have is in the physics of the Pods themselves. In the movie, we see them crash up against each other and careen out of control. They have weight, they have a presence. In the game, you can run into another Pod and it's almost as if you go right through them. You can't run them off the course or into an obstacle. I don't know if the developers missed that aspect of the programming or what. You do take damage when you run into another Pod, but it is inconsequential and then you pass right on through. The repair function, used in such situations to repair damage done to your Pod, is a welcome, if superfluous, addition. Welcome because it adds to the realism (realism in Star Wars?) and makes you feel like you have to care for your Pod mid-race, but superfluous because more often than not, you would sacrifice more speed repairing your Pod than if you were to blow yourself up. I would say to myself, well the right engine is pretty damage. I'll just run into this wall here and respawn. It's quicker than the repair option. There's something wrong with that.
Another point of contention: the speeds in the game are so great that when you come up to pass someone, more often than not you whip past them so fast you can't even see them. There is no neck and neck racing in this game, with your opponent next to you to the end of the race. You are either alone in front, alone in the middle, or alone in the back. This is partially because the actual Pods themselves aren't very big on the screen, but it is also because, for the most part, your speed is either so much greater or so much less (because you've crashed) that opponents are mere blurs on your screen. It takes away from the competitiveness of the game when you can't clearly see your opponents.
However, this game does take the best/only good thing out of the Phantom Menace and brings it a fresh coat of paint and some cool decals, while offering up a very different take on the racing genre.

Childhood Memories oFULLMETALNOOBo
I very much loved this game when I was a kid, and I very much love it now. Me and my friends used to play this all the time. I believe this game came with the N64 that I got, and I immediately fell in love with it. The graphics were good at the time, and the game play was smooth. The sound was great. I normally played with it turned way up :) As for addictiveness....man, countless hours went into this game between me and my buddies. The story is similar to every racing game, somewhat nonexistent. But hey, who played it for the story anyways? It was a racing game. Even without much of a story, it managed to maintain pretty good depth. There were plenty of unlockable racers and lots to do. Unlocking them all was quite difficult and that's where my difficulty rating comes from. I highly recommend this game to everyone, not just fans of racing games.

NOJ94'S REVIEW noj94
This game was probably the very first video-game I ever played which I believe I was about 6 years-old.
Summary: Basically this is a game for the Star Wars fans who wondered what it was like to be behind the engines of a podracer cruising through the most untamed terrain imaginable whether it be in the desert, in the air, or underground. This game has no storyline.
Game play: This is your average racer game which a Star Wars twist to it. You first come in and select a podracer of your choice including Anakin's. Each podracer have their own strength's and weaknesses, some that a bar rating won't be able to tell you. Some have better handling, while others have engines the size of boulders, some are more tightly compact making it easier to maneuver. Your first level starts off with a shortened version of the Tatooine race seen in Star Wars Episode 1. The further in the game you go the more podracers you earn, the better parts you get, and the more intense the levels. Before the game begins you can choose what the earnings are (normal, 1st place winner heavy, or winner takes all). There's no other style of race besides circuit so don't expect any '1st to the end wins' type of game at any point. Controls are fairly simple A is to go, B is to brake, with the ability to turn your podracer on it's side to get through tight spots. It gets fairly difficult to use the keyboard after awhile, turning slight turns with a constant tapping of the key will cripple you near the end of the game.
Graphics: Reasonable, considering what time period the game was created. Explosives are terrible though, you always spin the same direction the same way when you lose control and are just about ready to crash. Paths aren't very curvy and frequently are a series of short straight paths pointed at a different direction. Some things are pretty cool though; there's one level where you go in a glass tunnel underwater and you get to see a sea monster floating nearby.
Sound: Pretty good, after each race you hear Watto singing 'Cantina Band Music' from the original movie but though it's fun the first few times it gets old. Podracers have their own indistinct sound but they all get old because they don't change a lot throughout the race. When people pass each other each player has a few lines they say when either passing or being passed... Anakin calling people slime-o after the tenth time is pretty dumb.
Overall: Definitely worth your time and even more so if you don't use the keyboard which will cripple even the most experienced gamers. Doesn't have a storyline which may annoy a few people but frankly it's fine without it. Get used to hearing the same noises over and over again quickly or risk losing sanity.

Star Wars Racer Review epiclordsam
I think it is an okay game but the layout wasn't so good as it could be confusing at some parts (not on purpose).
Personally I would choose to avoid this game as Nintendo could have done better as in Mario Kart 64 it was easier to control and it seemed overall a good game. The vehicles were okay but the handling was terrible.
The difficulty of this game is hard as your vehicle will come off the track allot if you are not used to how it moves.
I am not really a fan of Star Wars myself so that is probably why I hate it so in conclusion to my review, I say it's a rubbish game and you should avoid it!
Thank you for listening.

star wars episode 1 angryvideogamen..
Star wars episode 1 is a star wars racing game that takes place when Anakin Skywalker races on Tatooine. This game offers a lot more than the movie race however, in this game there is a whole universe of different tracks and racers but doesn't give you that star wars feeling of blowing up tie fighters into thin space. All in all, the game is a pretty decent racing game that is set in the star wars realm and if it wasn't star wars, then it would just be an ordinary futuristic racing game. Although the story isn't good, its still a cool game, in fact if you want the story, you'll either have to watch the movie in order to get an idea for a story for this game or you can just read the title which basically summarizes the whole game.
