Knight of the Wind   claytune
Heyo people of Vizzed after my long review of Sonic Forces I really wanted to play a Sonic game I actually liked so I got out the Wii to play the best storybook game Sonic and the Black Knight.
Graphics 8/10 -
While the Wii is underpowered compared to the other consoles of the time the game still looks really nice for the console it's on and I have to praise the ui design like when you click on a level and select ready the cutting effect through the menu is a really neat detail.
Sound 10/10 -
So before we get to me talking about music forever I'll start with the voice cast where I don't have anything negative to say this is Jason's best game as Sonic and the rest of the cast all do great as well! Level themes I don't really have anything to pick out this time but Jun Senoue does a great job at making the music fit for the medieval style the game is going for and it makes the OST really memorable. Now that's out of the way it's time to get into the vocal themes and the only place to start is the main theme Knight of the Wind. It's hard to break it down much even for me this could be Crush 40's best song when it comes to fitting both the tone and plot of the game I mean even in game Sonic is known as the Knight of the Wind it just works perfectly for this game. Fight the Knight is perfect for the King Arthur encounters and Through the Fire is a song I can never forget due to fighting the knight's so often and it being used in Lancelot Returns which is good cause it works great for those fights. With Me is a contender for best final boss theme in the series being done in a way where it's lyrics make it sound like it's being sung by Merlina herself and this might be a lazy way to try and describe it but the whole fight feels insanely epic due to the song. Live Life is a beautiful song that goes perfectly after Sonic teaching Merlina to live life to the fullest and while not being related I do wanna mention the song did save my life as well so I do hold it in pretty high regard.
Addictive 7/10 -
The game being pretty short makes the story fun to replay in a couple hours on a day when you feel like reliving the story but you can also always go for those 5 star rankings. In this game I find it can be quite hard to get said 5 star rankings due to having to be nearly perfect and take no damage.
Story 10/10 -
Sonic get's summoned into the world of King Arthur by Merlina to deal with the evil king himself but soon is told he's immortal and Sonic then has to find a way to deal with the immortal king. He soon pulls the sacred sword Caliburn who can talk and calls Sonic Knave the hedgehog but right as Sonic pulls the sword King Arthur shows up which Sonic was warned that if he defeated him he would forever be the worst of knights slayer of kings and Sonic says he guesses he can't be the hero every time which I just love. After fighting Arthur even with the sacred sword he can't slay the King so Sonic goes to meet the Lady of the Lake to see if she knows anything. Just before making it to her Sonic runs into Lancelot Knight of the Round Table who Sonic easily defeats and then meets the Lady of the Lake. He is then informed he has to do some tests to prove he's a knight which after passing he's told he needs the sacred swords from the each of the Knights of the Round Table to defeat King Arthur which luckily he already has 2 of the 3 needed so he just has to go defeat Percival. After defeating Percival Caliburn recognizes Sonic as the Knight of the Wind and ready to take down King Arthur. After Sonic slays Arthur he disappears like one of the knights of the underworld confusing Sonic but Sonic goes and gives Merlina the Scabbard that made Arthur immortal who reveals the King was an illusion in the first place. She also reveals her plot to make the kingdom immortal so that it never ends so Sonic and the Knights of the Round Table go to set up a barrier around the castle after doing so Sonic meets up with Merlina to ask her why. She tells him the kingdom's fate is to fail and that's why she must create a kingdom that never ends because her sorrow runs deeper than the underworld. She proceeds to beat down Sonic and break Caliburn and when everything seems lost the light of the sacred swords appears and after the Knights of the Round Table throw their swords into Sonic becomes Excalibur Sonic and Caliburn becomes Excalibur. After defeating her Sonic explains while every world has it's end that's why you gotta live life to the fullest and then Caliburn makes everyone realize is the real King Arthur. I skimmed over a lot of stuff but I really think this is one of the best plots in a Sonic game I really like the message at the end of living life to the fullest and Sonic's attitude about things throughout.
Depth 7/10 -
While the story isn't very long you still unlock more missions after the story is over including the only super boss in the Sonic series I'm aware of which I'm sure I'll talk about under difficulty. The game has a lot of different items you can unlock after beating a level where you have to choose which ones to see what they are and hope it's a new item instead of one you already have which I'm sure would take quite a while collect every item in the game. In comparison to Secret Rings you actually feel more in control of Sonic due to the nunchuk being used with the Wii remote which allows a greater number of actions to be performed.
Difficulty 8/10 -
I'm basing this difficulty rating solely off the first time I played the game because with any game the more times you play it the easier it gets but the first time I played this game it destroyed me. It wasn't so bad until Sir Percival but her flames burned me which I think is the point where the game gets hard because King Arthur was so tough when I was younger and didn't have the sword swing timing perfect but with enough patience I did finally beat him. The dragon you end up facing took me a million attempts because of the final section where he does both attacks he had before at once younger me spent hours before finally slaying the dragon. The truest test of your skill comes post game when you unlock Lancelot Returns where one of the game developers must of thought it was stupid Lancelot is supposed to be the strongest Knight of the Round Table yet goes down so easily in the story because in this fight Lancelot is not messing around trying to beat him with 5 stars will push you to your limit. I feel like the difficulty is fair in this game due to the motion controls being responsive and actions you have such as the ability to block or Soul Surge which can be used to target enemies and quickly take them down and if timed right you get some Soul Gauge back allowing you to use the ability more.
Overall 9/10 -
Overall I find this to be an underrated Sonic game that I think a lot of people wrote off back in the day due to Sonic having a sword but if you've not played it and still got a Wii lying around I would recommend trying it out for yourself :)

Sonic and the Black Knight- Review   dazzsheil
Why does everybody hate on this game so much? I mean, It certainly is not the best game ever, but it is a damn fine one. Anyways, personal rant of the Sonic fanbase over, Sonic and the Black Knight was released in March of 2009 (Only just a couple of moths after Sonic Unleashed) to Universal Dismay and many critics panned it for it's Swordplay and control. Here's my opinion on one of the freshest Sonic expeirences since Sonic Adventure 2.
Sonic's progression is, just like 2007's Sonic and the Secret Rings, completely On-Rails, but unlike that game, you can influence Sonic's direction using the analouge stick on the Nunchuk. Sonic can jump if you tap the A Button on the Wiimote and tapping the button again causes Sonic to do his famous Homing Attack, which is kinda pointless in this game because new to Sonic's versatile abilities is Swordplay (Which is odd, as in Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic said he would never wield a weapon, though he probably meant a Gun), which occurs when the player waggles their Wiimote. Sonic's moveset seems limited as all he can really do is lunge, do some horizontal and vertical attacks and an Air Combo. Sonic does learn the Soul Surge, activated by using the B Button. The Soul Surge obliterates enemys quickly but uses up the Soul Gauge.
Graphically speaking, Sonic Team certainly do know what the Wii is capitable of. All of the Textures are brilliant and for once I think the character models aren't just random polygons that are coloured in. The enviroments are varied and vast, even if they are basically straight lines. Something I do like are the Cutscenes, the 3 CGI Cutscenes are AMAZING. Honestly, I wonder how many hour went into these! The rest are all presented like a graphic novel, beautifully hand-drawn and detailed.
The Audio as always never dissapoints. Once again Crush 40 prove that they can kick everybody in their behind when it comes to making video game music, but there's one song NOT Performed by Crush 40 that honestly would give the Sound a 10 all by itself: With Me by All Ends is amazing, probably because it plays during the games Final boss. The Voice-Over is pretty good, Jason Griffith is great as Sonic and Lancelot and Dan Green (YUGI!!!!!) Is pretty good as Sir Gaiwain and Caliburn, Sonic's Sword.
Black Knight has a very good story.

While on the run from the Black Knight and his demonic minions,

Merlina is surrounded by the Black Knight's minions, and, before she is
taken, performs a summoning ritual that brings Sonic to her world.
Sonic defeats the Black Knight's minions before Merlina teleports them
both away in a whirlwind. The Black Knight sends out the three Knights
of the Round Table, who are still loyal to the Black Knight despite his
evil, to find and kill Sonic and Merlina on sight. Merlina explains that
the Black Knight, once King Arthur, is immortal, as he possesses the
scabbard of Excalibur.
After training Sonic in the art of swordsmanship, Merlina explains that
King Arthur was once a wise and just ruler, but became corrupted by the
power of immortality granted by having possession of Excalibur's
scabbard. Sonic acquires Caliburn, a talking sword who is highly
skeptical of Sonic's abilities, and they head off on their quest while
Merlina goes into hiding (Merlina explains that she would be recognized
in town). They first find the blacksmith (Tails' counterpart in the
game) in the Castle Town, in order to sharpen Caliburn's blade. The blacksmith recognizes Caliburn, but cannot remember where he has heard of its name before.

Sonic heads off to see Nimue, the Lady of the Lake (Amy's

counterpart in the game) and previous owner of the scabbard of
Excalibur, to find out how to stop the Black Knight; on his way, he
encounters and defeats Lancelot (Shadow's counterpart in the game), one
of the Knights of The Round Table, and claims his sword. The Lady
reveals that she will only assist Sonic when he becomes a true knight
and presents him with three tests to be completed in three days. After
completing them, Sonic soon encounters a crying child whose village was
abducted by a dragon and decides to help her. Sonic soon encounters and
defeats Gawain (Knuckles' counterpart in the game), and takes his sword
before he can kill himself out of shame with it, asking him if there is
more to being a knight than serving a king. With the townsfolk saved,
Nimue reveals that she was the crying child and was testing Sonic, and
that he can blunt the scabbard's power by retrieving the sacred swords
wielded by the Knights of the Round Table. Afterwards, Sonic meets
Percival (Blaze's counterpart in the game) and defeats her before saving
her from falling from a cliff, an act that finally earns him Caliburn's
respect and the title of "Knight of the Wind". Merlina has seen those
events from her reflecting pool, and arrives to inform Sonic that the
Black Knight is on Faraway Avalon. Sonic and Caliburn pursue and defeat
the Black Knight with the power of the three sacred swords.

Part II

Having fought and defeated him by using the four Sacred Swords

(including Caliburn), Merlina reveals to Sonic and The Knights of the
Round Table that King Arthur was an illusion conjured by her
grandfather, Merlin. She then takes Excalibur's scabbard to become
all-powerful, so she can be the new queen.

Sonic and the Knights of the Round Table are forced to flee and,

with Nimue's help, set off to use the sacred swords to defeat Merlina by
putting up a barrier around the kingdom, which is then revealed that is
too weak. After the four swords form a barrier around the castle, Sonic
confronts Merlina, who explains that she knows the kingdom will soon
come to an end, and wants to make it last forever. Sonic battles her,
but is outmatched; in the process, Caliburn is broken in half, and Sonic
takes a very severe beating. Nimue and the Knights watch Sonic's
efforts, and shout at him to run. Sonic refuses, resolving to stop
Merlina no matter what. Sonic's determination, combined with the power
of the sacred swords, repairs Caliburn, and the duo transform into Excalibur-Sonic and the true Excalibur, respectively, while Merlina transforms into a monstrous creature known as "The Dark Queen".
After a long battle, Sonic and Caliburn manage to defeat Merlina.
Though Merlina continues to lament the fate of the kingdom, Sonic gives
her a flower and tells her that, while all worlds have to end, they
merely need to live life to the fullest in the time that they have;
reminiscing about her grandfather, Merlina takes his advice to her
heart.

Afterwards, Lancelot says that the Knights of the Round Table

will have to disband now that King Arthur is gone, but Caliburn reminds
them that he is the one who chooses the one to be king; thus, Sonic is
the true King Arthur. After the credits roll, Sonic, who has been taken
back to his world, explains his journey to Amy Rose. She then complains
that he is lying and forgot about their date, then proceeds to attack
him with her Piko Piko hammer. The game then shows a book titled King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table change its title to Sonic and the Black Knight, the same process in the previous game, Sonic and the Secret Rings.

The game dosn't really get hard until the very end (with the exception of the Final Boss) where you WILL Throw your Wiimote on the ground from the extreme difficulty.

Overall it's not horrible, it's brilliant!

10/10 :)

A Sonic and the black knight review   theironhide
I'm going to say this right here, right now: Sonic and the black knight is 1 of my favorite sonic games, as well as 1 of my favorite games, of all time. If you are 1 of those people who hates this game with a passion, click of this review, if not then let us begin the review
Graphics: 9 This game looks really good. It has some pretty cool looking enemies during game play, and the landscape is very well detailed. I also really like the CGI cut scenes, I know there are only 3 or 4 of them, but they look just so good, especially the crow in the beginning it's seriously the most realistic looking crow I've ever seen in a video game. You may say that the storybook cut scenes are kind of lazy, but I say it still is an improvement over the last game in the storybook series (secret rings).
Sound: 10 The sound in this game is really good. The sound effects of things like sword clashes and even running sound like Sega put a lot of effort in these little things. And even if you hate the game, (similar to other newer sonic games) there is 1 quality even the haters like about this game: the music is just amazing. Tracks like ' Knight of the wind ' and ' fight the knight ' are ones i will never get out of my head. It also has a few remixes of older Sonic tracks, the most notable 1 being ' It doesn't matter ' from Sonic Adventure which appears in the fan art sections and in 1 of the cut scenes. And then there is the soundtrack playing in the levels themselves: while I'll say that I honestly prefer the level soundtrack of secret rings (maybe that's just because i like rock), I still like the soundtrack in the levels here.
Addictiveness: 10+ Remember the fact that I called this 1 of my favorite games ever, well the game play is the main reason why. This game is really fun to play trough. Sure some of the missions are a little annoying, but you don't have to play these unless you want to. People complain about the mufti player as well. I don't like the mufti player that much either, but I play it for the single player. I've also heard people complaining that this game is easy, well it kind of is, but it is really satisfying to just slice everything apart that comes in your way. Kind of like why people play games like Dynasty Warriors, I play this game because it's so fun to destroy everything in your path. You can also unlock the 3 knights of the round table as playable characters. These being Lancelot (Shadow), Gawain (Knuckles) and Percival (Blaze, which is weird since the real Percival was actually a man). Each of them have minor differences from Sonic and can be upgraded with help of the black smith (Tails) by giving them different blades and you can even give them items that have specific effects (kind of like in a Pokémon game ). Also the boss fights, while being really easy with 1 exception(if you played the game, then you know who I'm talking about), are still pretty fun. I overall just loved playing trough this game, and you really should give it a chance.
Story: 6 Like with most Sonic games, this game doesn't really have the best story. The story basically goes like this: king Arthur has been corrupted and a young wizard named Melina (obvious reference to Merlin in the stories, who ironically enough happens to be her grandfather) is fleeing from him. When the black knight / king finally captures her, Melina summons Sonic who was eating chilly dogs in the meantime, which actually makes that part of the cut scene really funny. Sonic defeats the enemies who surrounded him and Melina without breaking a sweat and then Marline escapes with Sonic and tells him he needs the help of a sacred sword in order to defeat the fallen king. He also has to defeat the 3 knights of the round table before he can defeat the king. There is also a plot twist after the king is defeated which i won't spoil, but since I've already told that the knights of the round table are unlock able characters, you can probably already guess that they have to team up with Sonic. That was a quick summary of the story and while it's not the  strongest point of the game, it's not necessarily bad either. Like with Final Fantasy 7 (look that review up if you haven't already), I consider the story to be just ok.
Depth: 8 If you played out the main game, there is still plenty of stuff you can do if you want to. I have already mentioned the missions and the extra weapons and equipment you can unlock, but there's more to talk about. The game has an item system that allows you to pick from a set of unknown items. How many items you can pick depends on how many points you've obtained. You can collect a lot of items to fill an entire gallery. Not all these items have a true purpose besides that, but there are some funny ones such as a chilly dog and a mask that referenced Big the cat. You can also just try to unlock flags, voice tracks, music and trivia about the Sonic characters, their knight counterparts and even about the real legend of Arthur. Trust me when I say that doing all of that can take quite a long time.
Difficulty: 5 Keep in mind that I am only counting completing the main story here, since 100% completing the game takes forever. I've already said that the game is not very hard. This is mainly because the levels themselves don't have a lot of obstacles (aside from enemies). The bosses, with the exception of the second Lancelot battle, are pretty easy too.But honestly, I don't really care. I love playing through it so much that I barely notice how easy the game actually is.
Sonic and the black knight is my favorite sonic game on the WII (yes fan boys, more so than Sonic colours), as well as 1 of my favorite Sonic games ever (right up there with Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Sonic Generations), as well as 1 of my favorite games in general. This game is overall a great experience with a few flaws, but these are just minor things. Black Knight is a very underrated game which in my opinion definitely deserves a 9.6 out of 10. Sega, keep up the good work.

Finnally an exciting awsome sonic game that keeps you going.Even better you get a sword I was tired of games where it was just run jump run jump finnally a little action.
Graphics: 10 So cool looks almost real especially the lake. My first thought was no freaking way am i seeing things. A sonic game that acually looks amost real never thought i'd see the day.
sound: 10 I like the music that plays especially on the final level in the story line. But I hate the noise the townspeople make that wierd noise annyone know how to turn it off please tell me. It is way too loud the tv was on 3 and it sounded like 40.
addictivness: 10 played for 1 day and a half straight
story: Sonic has mysteriously appeared in the past and becomes a knight. He soon finds the legendary sword caliburn who helps him on his quest to destroy the evil King Aurthor. Along the way he willsee some very familiar looking faces.
depth: 10 There are 10 locations and at least 6 levels or more each. I have had this game for about a year and still haven't done everything. It will Be even bigger and harder trying to get 5 stars on every level.
difficulty: 7 So freakin annoying I hate the mine cart level and boat level I almost always end up dying there its so difficult. But the wierd thing is King arthor was the easiest level.
this game not as much to say as the last i reviewed
