Metal Gear Solid review by AdamBart   AdamBart
It was September third 1998, Hideo Kojima and Konami had released Metal Gear Solid, a continuation to his first two installments of the Metal Gear saga, with Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, With Metal Gear being released on the MSX2 in Japan and a port for the NES in North America. When they both sold well in their respective countries, Kojima thought he was done with the Metal Gear franchise. But fans wanted more, So Konami made an unofficial sequel to Metal Gear called Snake’s Revenge for the Nes, but Kojima and his team were angry that Konami didn’t get permission to make this and because him and his team never worked on it. But it was fairly successful in the U.S. So they made an official sequel called Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX2. Again Hideo Kojima thought he was done with the franchise. But fans wanted even more. So he planned on making a third installment later he would name it Metal Gear Solid marking the transition into three dimensions. The story and voice acting of the game made you care about all the characters and plot points. This story also introduced a nice cast of characters , starting with the protagonist: Solid Snake, a special forces agent who formerly worked under FOXHOUND. Along the way you were introduced to other characters such as Colonel Roy Campbell, your mission informant and the former commander of FOXHOUND. Naomi Hunter your medical informant, Nastasha Romanenko, who gives you information about items and weapons. Master Miller, your former trainer and drill instructor, and Mei Ling, who is in charge of mission data. They are all contacts through your codec radio. After that you even have the characters Meryl Silverburgh who was believed to be the Colonel’s niece but is his daughter, and Hal Emmerich or “Otacon”, the lead developer of a project called Metal Gear Rex  that you meet in the story. The Main villain of the story is Liquid Snake, a physical duplicate of Solid Snake and the leader of the newly turned terrorist unit FOXHOUND, along with Revolver Ocelot, an expert on handguns. Sniper Wolf, a renowned sniper. Vulcan Raven, an Alaskan shaman. Psycho Mantis, a psychic profiler and Decoy Octopus, a master of disguise. Finally Grey Fox, a mysterious cyborg ninja against FOXHOUND but not fighting alongside Snake. The story of Metal Gear Solid was set in Alaska, 2005, six years after the events of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and ten years after the events that happened in the first Metal Gear game. Special forces agent Solid Snake is forced out of retirement and then dispatched by Colonel Roy Campbell to infiltrate the terrorist stronghold on Shadow Moses Island to learn if the terrorists have the ability to launch a nuclear strike, investigate the Metal Gear Rex project and rescue the DARPA chief Donald Anderson and the Armstech President Kenneth Baker. Then Snake has to take out the FOXHOUND members and their leader. The Soundtrack for the game really makes you feel immersed in the whole story and in my personal opinion is one of the greatest soundtracks I’ve ever heard, with 21 amazing tracks this will have you enjoying all the moments in this wonderful game. There was a remake for the Gamecube that was released march ninth of 2004, called Metal gear Solid: The twin Snakes which did well but it will never compare to the greatness of this game.It had improved graphics, but the originals graphics were good for its time. It also had Metal Gear Solid 2’s gameplay mechanics but they weren't needed also the soundtrack was changed. Don’t get me wrong its also a great game, but if you want the better experience, then play the original. Now my personal opinion of the original game, the Story was great and original, the gameplay was good when combined with the area layout it works very well. The music is fantastic, the voice acting is superb, the cutscenes were done well, and the characters were interesting and added to the experience in a good way. I would definitely play this game if I were you. It’s fun, it’s addictive, it's amazing!!!! PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!

Metal Gear Solid PS1 Review   taterii
Metal Gear Solid is a name that means a lot in the world of gaming. It introduced an entire cinematic side of video games that many did not know existed until this game's release. Metal Gear Solid (Which will be referred to as MGS for the remainder of this review) is a stealth action game. It is widely considered to be one of the best games of all time because of its many innovations. The game still plays beautifully today, except for a few aspects that have aged rather poorly. You take upon the role of Solid Snake, a tough as nails war hero who has saved the world from all-out war and destruction two times, in two past metal gear games released prior to this one. Luckily, you do not need to play these earlier releases as the game has an option to brief you on these past events. And speaking of which, let's talk about this game's story.
STORY- 10/10
The most prominent aspect of this game that sets it aside from others is how cinematic it is. While most games have story take a back seat to gameplay, MGS turns this trope on its head by balancing cut scenes with gameplay. The story is among one of the best in gaming, starting out simple and throwing many twists and turns as the game progresses. Our protagonist is Solid Snake, a spy working for the pentagon to help stop a terrorist threat of a nuclear weapons. The game takes place at a secret terrorist base, and it's up to you, as Solid Snake, to infiltrate the base, save a couple hostages, and stop that nuke from launching. But right from the start, it's apparent that it's not that simple. However, player be warned: cut scenes in MGS can often last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Outside of cut scenes, characters will interact through codec, which is a phone that allows Snake to contact characters he's met throughout the game. These codec conversations can be just as long as the cutscenes. But they are well done and serve as a very effective means of character development. You can call characters at any time throughout the game, and these conversations can range anywhere from hilarious to deeply emotional, and everywhere in between. If you are looking for a game with nonstop action, this one is not for you. However, taking the time to watch these cut scenes are very much worth your time, because the dialogue is very well-written, voice acted and overall very entertaining. They make use of very cool zoom-ins, camera angles, and effects that all make for one heck of a cinematic presentation. This is a game where putting down the controller to take in the story is very commonplace. It all leads up to a very intense, memorable conclusion that should be experienced by any gamer.
GAMEPLAY- 7.8/10
MGS is a stealth game. Due to this, most of your time will be spent avoiding or running away from enemies. You are given a map in the upper right corner that maps out the positions and line of sight of your enemies. Sneaking around the environments never gets old and is always an involving experience. If you are caught, you will almost definitely loose the fight. Snake can take on a character one on one, but when you are surrounded by groups of enemies, your chances of surviving are very slim. The tight implementation of these mechanics leads to some very intense encounters. The stealth in this game is top notch.
The aspect of game play that ISN'T top notch, however, is the boss fights. Now, before you grab your pitchforks, let me explain. The Metal Gear series has given us some of the most original and innovative boss battles of all time, and this game is no exception. Each boss encounter is unique and memorable in its own way for the eccentric personalities and one-of-a-kind tactics that are required to defeat them. Bosses like Psycho Mantis, whose fourth-wall breaking tactics were truly revolutionary for the time, still remain fresh to this day. What aren't as fresh are how obviously dated some of these encounters can be. MGS is played from a third-person perspective, which is very useful for the stealth situations, but in boss battles, it becomes cumbersome. You can look through Snake's eyes from a first person view, but cannot fire a weapon. This, to me, seems to be a very obvious design flaw, as many of the game's boss battles require precise aiming of weapons. It's overly difficult to aim from this third person perspective and can be an annoying hindrance when fighting both bosses and enemies. There are certain sections in the game in which you are required to fight and kill groups of enemies, and these sections feel clunky due to the poor fighting mechanics. For a stealth game, perfect fighting mechanics are not necessary, and making it difficult to fight is okay by me. But during a boss battle where we are required to fight, making our aiming options so limited is a glaring issue.
My final quarrel with the gameplay is this: during the final portion of the game (I will be avoiding any story-related spoilers. Promise.) you are in the backseat of a vehicle, commandeering a machine gun. You have to fire this at an enemy, and it's quite difficult to do so. The portion of the game is near impossible without firing from a first-person perspective. By this time, the game has already established the fact that you can't look in first person and aim at the same time.
Except for now.
During this ending section of the game, you CAN aim and shoot at the same time. And nobody in the game ever tells you or even hints at this. You're simply expected to know. Which is, no matter how you slice it, poor game design.
SOUND- 10/10
The soundtrack and effects of this game are nearly perfect. The action-movie-esque score is very intense when it needs to be, and soft and melancholy when the game calls for it as well. The soundtrack often feels like one that was made for a feature film, and appropriately so, given the cinematic nature of the game. There is tons of variety to be found, from epic orchestral scores, delicate piano, opera, and much more. The sound of gusting wind when braving a snowstorm can make you feel a bit cold yourself. The soundtrack will immerse you in the world of MGS, and pushes the Ps1's sound quality to its limit.
Not only the sound, but the voice acting is almost always spot-on, which was quite uncommon for a game released in the 90s. A very surprising amount of emotion is compelled through the story and its characters because of it, which is even more impressive considering the often blocky character models. Even though they aren't fully detailed, the voice work makes them feel human.
GRAPHICS- 10/10
The game's graphics, even more so than its sound, push the capabilities of the Ps1 to their limit. The laboratories look metallic and high-tech, and the game's outdoor, Alaskan sections simply look and feel freezing. The textures are crafted very well, and while they may look a bit blurred by today's standards, they are a true testament to what the Ps1 could do.
OVERALL- 9.5/10
Metal Gear Solid is a game that changed the face of video games and offered up an entire cinematic spectrum that had not been fully uncovered until the release of this game. For that reason alone, I highly recommend this game to anyone. The story is a deep and involving one, and should not be missed. Honestly, every aspect of this game is 10/10, except for a few poorly aged gameplay mechanics. Sneaking around still remains just as fun and involving as it was in 1998. Hideo Kojima created the first of his many masterpieces with this game. Anyone looking for one of the best stealth games around or looking for one of the best video game stories ever absolutely owes it to themselves to give Metal Gear Solid a try.

Metal Gear Solid Review   MinkNyu
Ah, welcome to the world of Metal Gear Solid. I've been wanting to talk about this game for awhile... So why not make a review of it? Out of all the Playstation games this is probably my favorite aside from Final Fantasy VII. Chances are if you had a Playstation back in the day, you've played this game. It's definitely one of the Most Popular, and for a good reason. It's damn good! Well, let's move on the review!
LEVEL 1: STORY
You are Snake, a government agent on a mission to regain control of a secret nuclear weapons base from terrorist hands... That's the basic summary. Look, I know what you might be thinking... "Too generic" or "Sounds horrible" and "Too cliched". I get what you mean.... but there's a reason why this story get's a 10/10. Your first goal in the game is to rescue the Darpa Chief, but through twist and turns the story becomes very much more than that. You can definitely see it's Influence from action movies though. That's not a bad thing though. On the way you'll meet a brilliant cast of characters, both friends and foes. Two major characters Snake meets within his journey are the Love interest for Snake "Meryl", and the Otaku (Nerd), "Otacon". These are both very well devoloped characters and really grow through out the series. A random thing to note is that Meryl is your colonels niece. She's hell-bent on being a Soldier to live up to herself, when she's really not, a bit cliched, but works well. Otacon is a scientist who really helps Snake within the game. There's also the Fox-hound Unit, which contains the main villains including Liquid Snake, Revolver Ocelot, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, and Decoy Octopus. Ahh man there's just too much to cover. With that being said, the MAIN Antagonist IS Liquid Snake, hell-bent on getting Naked Snakes Ashes/Body, and is always complaining about that Solid Snake was the Favorite out of the two, and that he was superior. (Naked Snake, or rather Big-Boss is both of there father.) A bit jealous aren't you Liquid? Welp, I think that's about all I should talk about for this. Honestly, I hope the next subject isn't as splattered as this.
LEVEL 2: Gameplay
If you know anything about this, you know it's a Stealth Game. Anyone who has played this game, can agree that this is the KING OF STEALTH. It really showed how it's done in the Stealth industry. In fact, it has yet to be topped. Unfortunately for this particular MGS game, the controls can feel a bit "wacky". I'm mainly talking about how Snake walks in this. It can occasionally just go over-board. Another very out-dated aspect of this game for New-comers is the Gun system. You can't aim. While you can look in the first person to see what's ahead of you in this game, you can't use the gun while that's happening, and if you're new to the series then this will feel really awkward with it's shooting mechanics. You also have other basic stealth elements like crawling on the ground, and Crouching. Unfortunately you can't move while crouching, but isn't that big of a problem. So... How do the bosses play-out... Well... There too damn good. This game has some of the COOLEST bosses in Video Game history. One very notable boss within the game is "Psycho Mantis". Now if you haven't played this game, I'm not sure if this is considered a spoiler so if so.... Well. Not sure what to do. In the cut-scene right before you fight psycho mantis he claims he can read your mind and etc. He tells you to put the controller on the ground. As you do, it will start shaking. And then he preceeds to probably the most interesting part of the cut-scene. If you have a save file of some certain games he'll wind up reading one of them to you. It's pretty damn cool.
When the actual boss-fight starts, it mind-blows you again! So you're mindlessly trying to hit him, but you can't seem to. You have no Idea what to do. You wind up getting a codec call from colonel cambell and he tells you to plug your controller in the second slot! There for, he can't read your mind. It's pretty sweet!
Through out the game you'll get a nice array of Weapons, and tools. You have your average pistol, and machine gun, but as you progress you wind up getting things like romote controlled rockets! This is best shown in the scene where you use it to blow up the control panel, which leads you to the Gray Fox Battle. (This battle has some pretty hilarious scenes such as Otacon pissing him self and Otacon saying "It's just like one of my japanese animes!")
You have a Radar on the top right of your screen which not only shows you enemy placement, but there field of vision as well! This comes in handy. If you play on hard or Expert though, this totally eliminates the radar. So as I said, if they have a field of sight. If you are caught within that, they will come after you. If you hide for along enough, or fight them off (if you fight them off it'll most likely get you killed), the Alert will ware off. There also some places in the game where enemies can hear you if you walk on a puddle of water, or just on a thin Metal Floor. If you walk in the snow enemies can find your tracks and will start looking for you. This game get's so many things right!
LEVEL 3: Presenation
This is THE GAME that defined Cinimatic story telling within gaming. It definetely raised the bar. With that being said, they game still holds up well today. The character model's are fine, with the face being mainly just a blur, but everything else? This game had phenonmal graphics! And as I said, it still holds up well today. Within my playthroughs I've ran into little, to NO Glitches.
LEVEL 4: MUSIC and SFX
The music is just plain awesome. Need I say more? Not convinced? Listen to the main Metal Gear Solid theme. The Sound Effects are pretty damn awesome as well, home to one of the most Iconic sound effects ever the "!" alert.
FINAL LEVEL: OVERALL THOUGHTS
This game is a must-play. It's a classic. It set the bar high in terms of standards. It's one of the games the defined it's era. If you haven't played it... Play it.
WELL GUYS, I'm sorry. This review probably wasn't the great. That's probably for two reasons... First, I haven't slept in multiple days so I can't focus right, so apologize for crappy grammar, second I haven't done many reviews, and I didn't have as much time as I would of liked to do this review.

Metal Gear Solid: A Solid Game   Crispymasterty
Metal Gear Solid is considered one of the greatest games of all time. This third person strategy game offers a new play style that revolutionized the psx and the gaming industry. The plot to this game involves a group of terrorists trying to take over the world using the nuclear weapon “Metal Gear”. In order to prevent this, the famous “Solid Snake” is sent in by Foxhound, the organization attempting to prevent a nuclear war. This game relies heavily on stealth and patience, which provided a new challenge. This forced players to take their time and think carefully about what they did beforehand, rather than rush through and finish the game in 10 minutes.
The graphics in this game are spectacular. The terrain and enemies are easy to see and it also comes with a portable visual radar that allows snake to monitor his position in accordance to the enemies. The faces are a little blurred, but the detail is still great for a psx game. The movement is smooth and simple, a huge step forward after games like croc and tomb raider. It’s easy to read and understand; Visually Pleasing. Shooting is somewhat difficult, as well as the line of view sometimes, but it becomes easier after playing for a while.
The sound in this game is good, and very important. As with any stealth game, hearing is an important sense to have and use, when sneaking around. The terrain provides certain spots that are louder than others and by walking over them; you run the risk of being heard, and possibly discovered. Sound can also be used to your advantage. By knocking on walls and hiding, you can lure enemies to a specific area where they can be easily dispatched with a silenced weapon-or you can lure them to sneak past if you’re trying to reach a certain location. Loud weapons, hand to hand combat, cameras, and other things will give away your position to the enemies, sounding the alarm. When the alarm sounds, an endless supply of enemies may come, and the only way to escape is to hide for a certain amount of time and get out of their line of view. This game only introduces a few friendly characters; most of the people you’ll run into are terrorists, excluding a few victims you’ll meet and Foxhound communicating by radar. The invoices and people are vocally understandable and keep with the flow of the game.
This game is quite addictive, and provides the player with a real and genuine sense that they are sneaking about a heavily guarded Alaskan base on a secret mission to save the world. It’s very important to save a lot in this game because when you die, you will lose everything you did not have before you last saved. You might be like me; and be used to rushing through super Mario world. Well in this game, I had to learn the hard way that patience make perfect. It might be boring to wait for the slow moving terrorists to walk down a hallway or for cameras to turn in the opposite direction, but it sure beats doing the whole floor over again. I’ll have to rate this 9, because the Psycho Mantis boss is nearly impossible to defeat in this game (In fact, I think it is impossible, but I’m not completely sure).
The story is good and makes sense. It’s easy to follow and comprehend, and by listening to the cut-scenes, it’s easy to understand where you have to go next and what you have to do. If you get stuck, you can always call headquarters and they will give you a clue on what you have to do next (or you could just go online and look it up like a cheater, you big cheater). The people you have radio contact with have many different voice overs, and you can call them during/after almost every event to receive a new message that may not help, but still makes the game more interesting.
The depth in this game is not bad. Unfortunately though, as I’ve said, cannot be fully accomplished unless Psycho Mantis is defeated, and it’s nearly impossible using an emulator. Beyond him, I cannot remember exactly how much longer the game lasts, but the content surely makes it worth the while.
The game is somewhat difficult, although it becomes very simple over time. The more you use stealth, the more likely you’ll receive positive results. In order to progress through this game, you’re going to need to make use of your abilities and equipment in order to evade the enemy and successfully infiltrate the base.
This game deserves a high rating. This classic will forever be the highlight of the psx, and the original masterpiece which ignited the creation of many sequels attempting to recreate a powerful game that could innovate and control the gaming era.

The New Age Of Stealth   daffy_duck1
Metal Gear Solid is a reboot and squeal of Metal Gear 1 and 2:Solid Snake. Based largely around tactical stealth rather than shooting everything Metal Gear Solid helped make the way for a new age of stealth with a very in depth story  emotional and detailed view's on the working of the human mind this game has a lot too offer in many ways. Metal Gear Solid will see you taking control as former Fox-Hound agent Solid Snake now in retirement and living in Alaska is called upon by the American government and one of his few friends Colonel Roy Campbell to stop Fox-Hound from launching a nuclear missile attack within 24 hours or face the possibility of world domination at their hands Solid Snake must run shoot and stay hidden from the enemy at all costs with only a small but effective weapons as well as you're trusty radar to locate enemies and track them whilst investigating how real this new thereat is before it is too late. With a highly intense game play and great soundtrack Metal Gear Solid also has a V.R training mode if you wish to brush up on you're skills you do not have to do this if you do not want too but may be advisable to do a couple of these missions before you start the main game all in all Metal Gear Solid is a very fun game to play and even though the lack of character definition is apparent the story action and challenge of you're stealth abilities will keep bringing you back time after time

The Game Have Start To Move   siksiksikki
Metal Gear Solid, for many gamer's, defined the stealth genre. Picking up from it's immediate predecessors in Metal Gear
and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid had players sneaking around and avoiding fights that would lead to
bigger problems like you were the leader of the Chess Club in High School again. The story, while somewhat confusing in
parts, is much larger than in-game events and sets the stage beautifully for Kojima's later sequels in Sons of Liberty and
Guns of the Patriots. Combined with Hideo's love of intricately small and sometimes absurd details helps craft a game that
will forever live in infamy.
GRAPHICS
Stepping into the hay-day era of Sony's Playstation in 1998, Metal Gear Solid was a masterpiece in graphics during it's time,
despite the consoles issues in rendering. The 3d environments the player will explore whilst traversing the famous Shadow
Moses Island are sure to leave a lasting impression. Even with the central theme, naturally, being a rather unassuming
military base there are still many locations that have etched themselves into my mind and many gamer's alike.
The character models might be a little lacking, sure, but the codec calls can clear up the confusion on a couple characters
at least. And when two characters are meant to look alike for reasons that shall go unnamed for the sake of the uninitiated,
they really do look alike.
SOUND
The music and sound effects in the game are rather standard, and generally what you'd expect from an action game. The
music and ambiance, for the most part, are where the game truly shines. With such memorable tracks as "Encounter" and
the ending theme "The Best Has Yet To Come", the player will be on their toes from start to finish. If the music that assaults
you when the legendary "!" appears above an enemies head isn't enough to get your blood pumping, you may have a problem.
ADDICTIVENESS
While the game is rather straighforward- for the most part- I couldn't really find myself playing this game more than 2-3 times,
personally. Especially after playing some of the later games in the series such as Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which I could
play over and over again in one sitting if it wasn't hazardous to my health. Regardless, for the player that does find this game a holy
grail there are many things to keep the player playing even after the credits roll.
Secret passages, easter eggs, and minor changes can appear to players who become a little more wise once the game is finished-
whether it's the color of the Cyborg Ninja, or the fact that you can have a wolf puppy piss on you for an easy walk through the cave
system (just to name a FEW), Kojima will have you guessing every time you click play.
STORY
My... My god. Where do I even begin? The story, as with every video game with "Hideo Kojima" listed anywhere in sight, is simply
astounding. It's full of twists and turns, and will LIKELY leave you asking more questions than it answered- and you'll love it. A lot
of gamers, myself included, found this to be one of the most interesting parts of the Metal Gear Solid series once you look past the
game play mechanics and enigmatic ludicrous situations.
Taking place after the events of Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land chronicled in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on the
MSX2 and NES systems, Metal Gear Solid puts players once again in the shoes of the ever-badass Solid Snake. His mission? To
find out what exactly is going on behind the scenes of a terrorist takeover of the Nuclear Disposal Facility on Shadow Moses Island
off the coast of Alaska. Snake soon finds out that nothing can be quite that simple, as he learns of the possible existence of yet another
Metal Gear.
DEPTH
The game isn't generally something you'll sit down and take it in just one or two sessions. This isn't your run-of-the-mill shooter storyline
where you really don't care about what's going on, as long as you can play online after you've got the controls down. After sitting down and
playing this game after so long it took me about 8 hours simply to get through HALF the game, and it's even arguable as to whether halfway
through the game is even where I am.
DIFFICULTY
Coming back to this classic PSX game after being spoiled by such modern luxuries as
2 control sticks can be hard. The controls feel a little
strange, and the aiming can be a nightmare which will generally work in the games favor of challenging the player to play the game as if
you were actually trying to be a spy. The lack of a tutorial (unless I simply missed them, which would be just plain silly) for certain IMPORTANT actions can also leave the player confused on certain mechanics until they experiment with them their selves. (Pro tip: Square grabs bad guys, repeatedly pressing square with someone grabbed will break their necks). However, like many games from the playstation days, the wonky controls can sometimes lead to a much more memorable game.
An example that's light on spoilers would be a fight with a certain revolver slinging bad guy. You had to be careful due to hazards in the room and aim your shots accordingly, and pay attention to your surroundings. However, in an attempt to FIX these awkward shooting scenarios, the remake- Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes- allowed for shooting in first person, which made the iconic boss fight almost laughably easy.
OVERALL
If you're a player looking to relive the game that truly brought Metal Gear to the next generation, wanting to play a decent stealth game,
or just someone with an itch for a long and well written story, look no further than Metal Gear Solid. It can be frustrating- in fact, certain parts
are DEFINITELY going to frustrate the ever-loving hell out of you- but once you see the credits rolling and  you hear The Best Has Yet To Come playing through your headphones/earphones/speakers, you'll be left with a feeling of satisfaction that you aren't likely to find in any other game. That's a promise.

The "First" Title in an Influential Series   sunkenship124
Metal Gear Solid is a game that touched me in a way that it most likely touched others. I had never really played stealth games before, but I was interested in the Metal Gear series for a while. This interest led to me buying MGS 1-3 together on my birthday. While it took me awhile to get into MGS 1, I found that not only was the gameplay fun and intense, but that the story was interesting enough to keep playing until the end. I will go in depth as to why this is one of my favorite games of all time.
Graphics-8:
Now, since this is a PS1 game, it has the obvious graphical hiccups when it comes to rendering textures on a 3D plane. This is normal and it's not really an emulation error, but more of a hardware limitation. I'm not actually sure if they were going for a certain style in this game or if it was just the limitations of the console, but I kinda like the no-face thing that everyone has. The game has a bluish tint to it, so characters like Sniper Wolf have green hair instead of blonde hair. Other than that, there isn't much to say about graphics.

Sound-9:
The soundtrack in this game is fantastic, it's got a kinda chilling, techno, orchestra vibe to it and it works well. I heard that Konami originally wanted the music to change dynamically with the game, but due to limitations of the PS1 they couldn't actually pull that off, so they canned it. MGS 2 actually reused this idea and if paid off well. The voice acting is kinda cheesy, but for PS1, it's top-notch. David Hayter has just started doing Solid Snake's voice, so it isn't as refined as it is in later games, but I'll let it slide. The guards say some really dumb things like "What was that noise?" or "Whose footprints are these?". These little things became highly quotable for many people and I can tell why

Addictiveness-7: I gave this a 7 because, while it is a very fun game, there are only two endings. Both of these endings get you different items to use in a new game. These will give you a worse rank, but they're both useful. MGS is well worth playing to completion and again to find all of the easter eggs or get the other ending.
Story-9: The story of Metal Gear Solid involves former agent, Solid Snake, of the now rogue group known as FOX-HOUND. Snake is called back into action to stop them, because they want $1 billion dollars and the remains of the legendary soldier known as Big Boss. You must sneak through a military base off the coast of Alaska known as Shadow Moses Island. The members of FOX-HOUND include; Decoy Octopus, Vulcan Raven, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, Revolver Ocelot and the leader, Liquid Snake. It'a the perfect action movie plot, but in the form of a wonderful video game. You have your action star, interesting side characters and cunning main villain.
Depth-7: On your first playthrough, it should take more than ten hours to complete the game. When you learn more and more about the game, it gets incredibly shorter as you can beat it faster. Most people who master it usually beat it in 3 hours at the least. There isn't much you can do on the side, but it's okay because that would be too distracting.

Difficulty-6: This game can get pretty difficult at times, especially during the Metal Gear REX fight. That boss fight is probably the hardest one it the entire game. Other than that, it's pretty fair with its difficulty. Sneaking can be a bit hard because you can get could something off screen, but that usually isn't the game's fault.

Can I get some T.E.A. please?   alsonic
Hello Vizzed, I know I was away for a long time, but I can explain. I was in school. And playing Metal Gear Solid. Now, really, are we gonna wait for an online PSX rom? No. I bought A PSX for $20 and MGS for $4.99. Now lets review this thing!
Graphics: 8/10 Okay, this is an old game, I get it, but the graphics are pretty good for what they're worth. You can see what the characters look like, and the Codec character pictures are gorgeous.
Sound: 9/10 As you can tell, I really like this games music. All the tracks fit in to what's going on, and the music when you get seen is AMAZING!
Addictiveness: 9/10 Sometimes I can hardly sleep when I saved... that's how much I want to play it sometimes :)
Story: 10/10 Now this story is really confusing, so I'll give you the basic plot. You're Solid Snake a super soldier on a mission to stop FOX-HOUND from detonating a nuclear weapon. Along the way you'll meet Meryl, a soldier wanna-be, Otacon, the chief engineer of Metal Gear, and Liquid Snake, (Spoiler) your brother.
Depth: 9/10 There is a lot to do in this game. You can find a lot of weapons, sneak around in cardboard boxes (<3), and you can even break dance! (There is no scene where Snake break dances, just exploiting the controls.)
Difficulty: N/A You can set your Difficulty. Nuff said.
Overall: 9.5/10 This game is a masterpiece, with amazing graphics, awesome sound, and amazing characters, this game get my rating of 9.5/10! See ya next time for more fabulous reviews. (Hint, I'm TOTALLY not gonna be doing Tomb Raider :P).

Metal Gear Solid:Beginnings of a Legend   dapple94
To many, the Metal Gear Solid that was released for the Playstation in 1998 is the beginning of a legend. A new type of video game, that combined many different elements, such as stealth, action, epic boss battles, anime, and spy movies into one coherent, brilliant opus that spawned several equally successful and exciting sequels.  The game's central character, Solid Snake, has become one of the most iconic in the universe of video gaming.
A little backstory on the history of the Metal Gear franchise. The first Metal Gear, simply titled "Metal Gear," was released for computer in 1987. Lacking the money to afford the technology to build a large, over the top blockbuster shooter game that was so popular in that time, Hideo Kiojima and his team were faced with a problem: How to create a game that only allows a maximum of 3 enemies on the screen just as fun and exciting as a game in which you blast away large quantities of enemies at a time. They found their answer in stealth. By creating a game in which face to face combat was difficult, they paved the way for games like Thief, in which you must use stealth and guerrilla tactics in order to defeat enemies.
Metal Gear Solid was the first three dimensional Metal Gear game, and it had a lot of weight on its shoulders. But it pulled it off in an unexpected and fresh way. Play this game and see for yourself.

Liquid is such a hypocrite..... Metal Gear!!!!   the protoman
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BOYS AND JADSAHSJHA
Okay, calm down, you are only reviewing a game... One of the most awesome, in depth going in-game story's of a game! Tears of joy! OH god, oh god... Okay, I'm calm...
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, the freaks and geeks, trolls and derps are like.... WECLOME! My name is protoman, and yes, I know I am quoting Mulletmike there, thank you very much, eh?
Today, I am going to cover (OH MY GOD!) Metal Gear Solid on the playstation one! So grab some popcorn, put on your best David hayter voice, and let us....
*David voice on*
Commence operation infiltrate Shadow Moses!
(So cool)
Let me start out with the graphics. Sure, they look very blocky, they are pretty hooky, but this is all we had back then. This was all we had. And it was awesome! These graphics were as close to realistic as we had, in fact...
I think metal gear came closest to being the most realistic looking for it's time. For it's time! And I had so much nostalgia having to pick this thing up again! I looked at it, and-
Sorry, I am rambling to much, the games overall look is just.....
HALLELUJA!!!!!!!!!!
*HAYTER VOICE MODE ON*
Moving ON!
*HAYTER VOICE OFF*
Now to the sound.
This is just as awesome as the game itself. The music fits so well! It fits too good! IT IS AWESOME! OH MY GOD! WHAT IS THIS SUDDEN EARGASM I'M HAVING!???!??
Calm down...
I keep telling myself to calm down. WE ALL KNOW IT WILL NEVER WORK!!!! This music is awesome, and to hear that... That theme... when you are surrounded... AWESOME!!! I... I am crying... AGAIN!
Now comes the addictiveness. have you ever looked at a game, and think to yourself "This is the game that made me fall in love with the gaming industry"? If not, then pick this game up, like, right now! It's the omega billionific (That isn't a word), megatrific (Not a word either) Super mega cadingo (That isn't  a word either, but you know what I mean!)!
You are going to want to play it over and over again, trying to infiltrate this base on a different way! MGSV said that it was the first to do it, but there are multiple ways to complete this game either.
Which is awesome.
That is really great. ahhhh.... I love this game so much.
Now, here we are.
The Story. Oh God, this is a true Kojima story. Do you know what a kojima story is? If not, It is an awesome story of conspiracy theories, nuclear deterrence on a high level scale, terrorists having the government by the small testicles, and military groups driven by anger and hatred. Or simply NANOMACHINES. That is a simple Kojima story, if it wasn't for the failure that was mgs4, I could have called this a perfect franchise.
Our characters are:
Solid Snake (OH MY GOD!)
Sniper Wolf, and for some reason she is unharmed after, like, eight bullets to the face... what?!
Meryl, butt wiggle wiggle! What she keeps doing that.
Vulcan raven (Listen to your heart, you will understand!)
Psycho mantis, and he is like: "I want to break the fourth wall! Wait, Crash bandicoot?! SERIOUSLY?!? you play that!!?"
Big Boss (ONLY MENTIONED)
And....
The most arrogant sonuvacrap... The British douche.... The bloody sassy man.....
LIQUID SNAKE!!!
He's going to wine about his genes until you like it!
oh, and metal gear, I guess....
Here is the story:
"Snake, the terrorists kidnapped some dudes and are going to plan a nuclear strike. GET IN THERE!" and so the terrorists happened...
Guys, I simply cannot go into difficulty, and depth. There is just too much to find in this game, and this game is very flippin' hard. However, this game is definitely worth a buy, and if you want one of the greatest sneaking action games, this, my fellow reader, this very embodiment of pure awesomeness that is a game, is for you. Some may argue that Splinter cell is better, but believe me.
The metal gear franchise is the mother of the splinter cell franchise, and the mother of sneaking gaming itself. Pick it up if you can. I simply can't praise this game enough for how awesome it is, especially for a game of the year 2000. I hope you enjoyed this review.
This is Protoman.
Signing off.

Awesome5000: There seems to be another way to defeat Psycho Mantis by destroying the left and right statue. Here's a video of that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHVf_ZvdUkE I'm glad I found this, because I just wanted to start this game. :)
