I think Square really dropped the ball a couple places here.   endings
Squaresoft made Final Fantasy VII. It garnered a ton of attention, got people who didn't even play rpgs to try it, and wet the appetite for the follow up. The game came out, and I bought it launch day, all those years ago. I forgot about this game until Janus reviewed it and I started looking at other posts here on VIzzed.
A funny thing happened. I noticed a distinct lack of lower grades for FFVIII. I'm the odd man out here, as this is a game I didn't like. Its not my least liked Final Fantasy game, but its really close.  I think this game needs to be taken to task on some things.
Now, this review is like comparing Pixar movies. Some people will love one, and there might be a few that people are kinda "EH" on, but on the whole what the company does is very good and respected. And here I represent the Devil's Advocate for this game. This is a Squaresoft game, and they know this field so well, this is not a horrible rpg game. Its a lackluster Final Fantasy game in my opinion, though. It fails in key areas to me, and I just can't see past that to give it a great score.
Some key elements of Final Fantasy return, of course there is a Cid. There isn't an airship per se, but you do get to fly something in the air. The limit breaks and summons return. The summons are now GF, Guardian Force, and they now can have a minigame where you push a button while the long cutscene play to deal extra damage.
The big changes are:
There is no money in this game from killing monsters - you are paid a stipend from SeeD, as an employee.
The monsters are near about your level at all time. There is no point to go back to earlier areas to grind, unless you want spells unique to that monster.
There is no magic spells. Huh?? Well the monsters have them, you have to get them from the monsters. Read about it later. I can feel my blood pressure going up just thinking about it, but its too early.
Graphics: 9
Make no mistake, Square noticed people LOVED their cg from FFVII - and they added more in this game. In fact, sometimes the summons took 3 times as long as previous (thats good .. or bad, as they are unskippable). The biggest change was they took away the Super Deform look they've used forever and popeye arms of FFVII and made it realistic. Real human bodied characters at last! This game looks gorgeous for when it was released.
There is one key scene I remember. Towards the end, you scuffle with an enemy soldier on a suspended line WHILE A whole detailed battle goes on in the background. Its short but it blew me away.
Although to shine a bit of a negative light on why it didn't get a 10, I don't really like the character designs. Zell, Quistis and Selphie in particular. Zell is dressed like he's ready for Blitzball, wild hair and the only one rocking shorts, but hes 2 games too early. Quistis herself is a nice character, but her color palette and teacher look are very dull. Selphie.. is wearing her kid sister's clothes and acts like shes a clumsy ditz. Get to work Selphie, fighting to be done.
Sound: 7
Sound is subjective. I'm sure many people love the soundtrack. This one I wasn't so sold on. Give me Liberi Fatali or Ultimecia's Castle any day. Love em.  But other than that, I couldn't find many tracks I could say I loved, and thats unusual for me considering Square's track record for soundtracks. The looming mystery of Find your way is nice, but Balamb Garden, the music that plays at your mercenary academy, is halfway to lullaby. This isn't bedtime music! The battle music to me wasn't as catchy as past versions. Laguna's battle music I did like a lot. However you seldom control him for long. The signature "All Eyes On Me", no thanks.
Maybe there's beauty in this beholder I don't get. I have tried listening to the music again, but nothing other than what I mentioned grabs me. It might be the new, more modern setting for the world (space travel), or just something I cannot get into. Your mileage may vary.
Addictiveness: 3
Square had the radical idea for this version to not give you spells to learn, but spells to take. You have to steal - or draw them from the monsters or bosses, would give you a certain one. And you could cast those- or stack them onto your character like armor - and it would give you special abilities based on how many copies you have.
This was so tedious and stupid to me, I almost quit playing it several times. You end up playing the longest battles of attrition with so many encounters -it felt like bad padding to the game. Case in point. You want a fire spell. Oh look, this dog creature has it. Draw a bunch of them for one character. Now your 2nd. Now your 3rd. Might have taken awhile to get them all the way to 100 copies. Now you equip it to your stat, so you get a big boost. You can't use them as spells (even though they are), because using them diminishes the value. So you end up getting a whole separate stack just to be able to use in fights! Thats just one spell, imagine how many more to get.
NOW REPEAT THIS FOR EVERY NEW AREA. As spells become more powerful, you are constantly switching out weaker ones and getting enough copies for three players. All so you can be at peak performance so when a boss comes, you can hold them off while you drain THEM of spells too. Its just a vicious cycle.
You also have the fact the characters aren't very likable. This to me is the last cast of Final Fantasy I'd want to be stuck in a liferaft with. You have Squall, so emo its painful to watch, so unsocial he has "..." for most of his lines, but then you see the other characters and start to see why. We have Zell, who just talks about hot dogs all day like some kind of freak, and Irvine, a concrete jungle cowboy you need for one specific moment, he is hyped up right before you get him - and then he pretty much shows how he can't help you. Fun! Nearly every one of them is just ... uughh, even poor Quistis, who like Irvine just sort of fades off from relevance in the story the further you go on. Rinoa is the only shining spot, the only one to me who felt like a real FF character, and sadly she isn't one of the starting people. You have to slog through the game to get to her. And thats what this game felt like, a giant endurance test.
Story: 4
There's... something going on here. I wish I could tell you what, or that I cared. You starts as Squall, an agent of SeeD, a world-wide mercenary program. Squall has a bitter rivalry with colleague Seifer, a guy who also has a scar on his nose. A country breaks out into war with another, and your group gets all shuffled around, then some kind of sorceress is thought to be behind things. Weird rich alien guy lives under your school? Something about space? Love? Then time-travel? Its just.. honestly, its hot mess. I am leaving so much out, including boring segments with a strange guy named Laguna whom you play as for brief segments, and when it was all over, I was like, why did I play as him? Was he really that important?
Depth: 8
The combining of spells and mastering of GF will keep you busy for hours. Its super detailed and considering it affects your performance and stats, very important to learn. There is a strangely addictive card game also, although at first it seems daunting. You don't get a lot of equipment to fool around with, its all in the junction your GF and spell abilities. Every level up is done at 1000xp, and sometimes, you have to think strategically if you want to go up a level, because that means the monsters go up with you. If you are quite comfortable killing the bosses around you now, you might want to hold off on grinding. A lot of secret GF and things to uncover!
Difficulty: 7
Given you have some control over what level the monsters are, this game could be easy, it could be hard. You using weak spells while they blast you with Fireaga all bad. The limit breaks try to balance out somewhat,, and Squalls and Rinoas are obscenely powerful. So is Irvine's if you get the right stuff. The spell hoarding is instrumental to making the way easy for you, and the sooner you adapt to the draw system, the better off you'll be. The fact some spells are so rare you only get them from one-time bosses is a letdown. Hope you don't regret letting the boss almost kill you to draw Carbunkle!
Overall: 6.8
A serviceable rpg. But thats not what I expect from a Square game. To me, if this was a Pixar game, its the Cars 2, a game with a plot so muddled and inconsistently plotted, I doubt wikipedia could make it clear. The draw system is a nightmare of a time-sink, and the bane of this game for me. And the characters, they may be the most realistic yet up to this point in the series history, but never have I had the misfortunate of watching such a ragtag, unfun cast (save for Rinoa). Fortunately for me, Square changes the universe for every version of Final Fantasy, so I never had to come here again.

Final Fantasy VIII   legacyme3
I'll make this briefing brief. When I first purchased the game, it was on the merits of every Final Fantasy that preceded and followed it. I heard all the worst things about this game, from complaints about the story, complaints about the linearity, complaints about the game play... you very rarely heard many positive things about this in the circles I frequented.
But I'm not a sheep, and I don't believe in casting judgement until I've played, and finished the game. I dreaded the game going into it at first, but my perception greatly changed by the end of the game, and I want to take this time to say that I'm glad I took the time to play this through on a completionist playthrough. I no doubt missed something, but I think I got the idea.
Graphics - 8
I'm going to be frank. This is probably the second or third least graphically stunning game in the series under NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. The graphics are very grainy, and they haven't aged very well, although they have aged considerably better than it's prior, Final Fantasy 7. At first, they can be a little strange to look at, but you easily ignore this once you get more in-depth into the game. So why an 8? The FMV sequences are masterfully done, none more so than the ending sequence, which actually made me feel glad I had the tenacity to buckle up and finish it.
Sound - 9
There are a lot of reasons to like Final Fantasy 8's range in audio. There are some beautiful tracks in the game, including my personal favorite from the game, The Extreme, which plays in the final battle. Of course, I wouldn't reccommend clicking the link unless you really want to spoil the final boss, as it is her theme. Beyond that though, the quality of the audio is rather high, and it's easily one of my favorite Final Fantasies in regards to sound. They could have done better, but with the limitations of the format at the time, I'll excuse it. Again, some of the best bits are during the FMV sequences.
Addictiveness - 9
This is the game I want more than any other to be remade in an HD format. Forget Final Fantasy 7. Forget Final Fantasy 10. The gameplay is so much different from in 7, despite being the next game in the series. The drawing system sucks at first, but once you learn to refine magic, it's like drawing only exists to bring in the GF's (summons) to your side. And trust me, drawing from every enemy to see if they have something you want or need is actually a pretty good idea. If you don't draw, you can't get the most powerful GF in the game, Eden, which is gotten from one of the superbosses. There's also one more thing that really sets this game apart from past and future Final Fantasies in that grinding for levels is generally a bad idea, as the enemies scale with you, and can make the game more difficult if you don't junction properly.
Story - 10
The best part of the game without a doubt. It's no secret I'm a huge fan of in-depth story telling that the Final Fantasy series brings, and this isn't just no exception... this is quite possibly my favorite FF story. (I haven't played 9 yet... so that's subject to change.) I get where it can get confusing, and I honestly don't expect people to like it as much as I do, but I think it's a mistake to dismiss this game for having a more confusing story than most games in the series. Essentially, you are Squall. You are a SeeD, and your mission is to basically kill the sorceress. Along the way you meet an electric cast of characters ranging from the cocky Zell Dincht, the lecture filled Quistis Trepe, and the spunky Selphie Tilmitt, to the tail chasing Irvinne Kinneas, and the youthful spirited Rinoa Heartilly. These people and others help lead Squall on a journey where he not only learns about them, but about himself. Ultimately, there's nothing more I can say without spoiling an amazing story. Play it yourself.
Depth - 6
I wasn't terribly impressed with the variety of side quests in the game, but I did rather enjoy the optional GF caverns/quests. It's really hit or miss for generally unappealing rewards, so I only reccommend looking for vase pieces if you are an OCD nut who needs 100%. Otherwise, you should probably just stick to the story, and enjoy that instead. The game can range in length depending on your playstyle. I put in a hefty amount of time, but also did a large portion of things you can do in the game.
Difficulty - 4
I give this a 4, only because I think I might have found the easiest way to beat the game by complete accident. Nonetheless, I'm told there are a handful of difficult boss battles, but I didn't really have many problems. About the only times I did were my battle with the final boss (and you will too unless you are prepared.) and the battle with a super boss that contains the strongest GF in the game. It's a pretty balanced game however, and generally, you'll have about as difficult time on disc 3 as you do on disc 4.
Overall - 9.1
I love this game. To say it's one of my top 10 favorites at present (as well as being the highest rated Final Fantasy) should prove it's calliber as one of the true classics on the psone. I also want to take this time to note again, that coming in, I dreaded playing it. The fact that turned into pure love for the game shows I'm either getting soft, or that this was one of the best games I've ever played. There are few games these days I'm willing to give anything above a 9 to, and this is one of them. Kudos to everyone who worked on this masterpiece.

It's different but alright   andy1234
Final Fantasy VIII is much different from any other Final Fantasy Game. The controls are different from Final Fantasy VII. In Final Fantasy VIII The X button is to select a command, instead of the Circle button. The Circle button Opens up the Menu, instead of the Triangle button. The Triangle button is The cancel button instead of the X button. Other than the controls, the game is alright, but pretty challenging. If you are up for the challenge then you should definitely play this.
I am going to give the graphics a 10 out of 10. The game was released in 1999 and it looks really nice. The animations also look nice. over the past year I have only been playing older games, so I can't really complain about the graphics in this game.
The sound will also receive a score of 10 out of 10. The music in this game is very catchy and sometimes I hum to it when I am playing, or even when I am not playing it. There are several soundtracks in this game which I really like.
The Addictiveness gets a 5 out of 10. The new battle system is pretty confusing and might make you give up later on and not want to finish this game. If you understand the battle system then you may want to play it over and over again.
The Story will be scored a 6 out of 10.The story is good, but it does not feel like a normal Final Fantasy Game, But some people like that. It really depends on you, but this is just my opinion, so please respect that.
The Depth of this game deserves a 9 out of 10. This was the longest Final Fantasy game at that time and there is a lot to do. There are several ways to challenge yourself.
I am scoring the difficulty a 7 out of 10. Usually for Role Playing Games I would rate the difficulty a 5 out of 10, but not this one, and the main reason is the enemies get stronger as you level up, so level grinding does not help. Instead of MP, you will have to stockpile magic, which makes the battles more time consuming. There is also something called Triple Triad, which is pretty confusing. Another contributor to the difficulty is the complex battle system
Overall this game gets an 8 out of 10. This game is alright, but it doesn't feel like a normal Final Fantasy game to me. If you can handle this game then it will keep you busy, when you don't have anything else to do. If you can handle The enemies leveling up with you and stockpiling magic, then you should play it. This is a good game if you are looking for a challenge, since most Final Fantasy games in the main series are pretty easy. This game is really not that bad and if you want to play it you definitely should try it out.

Final Fantasy VIII: Still my all-time favourite   janus
September 9, 1999. This was the only day in my life when I bought a video game right at the release date. I hadn't read a single review nor played a single preview of Final Fantasy VIII. Other than the Squaresoft trademark and the Final Fantasy brand, I had no idea was I was getting into. Fortunately, this was money very, very well-spent.
Graphics: 10/10
Final Fantasys have this habit to always improve the graphs from the previous episode. VIII did it wonderfully compared to VII with human-shaped characters on the overworld map and in villages rather than, to quote another review, pixelized Lego blocks. The CGI movies, at least back in 1999, almost looked alive. I'm still in awe with the opening CGI with the waves and the fight between Squall and Seifer
The world map has smooth graphs with rounded mountains rather than mountain-colored cones. Esthar, a futuristic city you encounter later in the game, is HUGE, even on the world map. You can actually walk its modern streets on the world map.
Finally, battle graphs are also an incredible improvement from VII. The "victory dance" is more elaborate for every character, you can see their faces and details (Squall's scar) and their movements are much more fluid. Summon monsters (Guardian Force) have much smoother and shorter animations - at least for the weaker ones; Eden' CGI lasts about one minute. Finally, monsters are very-well drawn and their attacks look very realistic; you can almost feel choked by Malboro's bad breath.
Sound: 10/10
Had it been possible, I would have put more than 10 to music. To this day, Final Fantasy VIII is still my all-time favorite soundtrack. I stated earlier that I'm still in awe with the opening movie; it wouldn't be half as impressive without the music accompanying it, Liberi Fatali, which boasts a realistic orchestration coupled with live-sounding voices. Speaking of voices, there is even a real singer (Faye Wong) performing Eyes on Me. Finally, the end CGI has a pretty epic track with very realistic orchestration that translates the varying mood very well.
The realism is present in many tracks like Slideshow Part I and II (the better one), where one of the character is playing in a 1920s-style movie. You can hear the antique camera in Part I, and Part II has a lively ragtime style. Ami also has realistic piano music and the mood is right to tell Squall (hidden) joy to get back together with his friends. The piano intro to The Extreme (the last part of the final battle) is smooth and relaxing (before it explodes), as is The Successor.
Even the more electronic tracks are awesome. The Man with the Machine Gun (Laguna's battle theme) sounds better than the regular battle theme, and Mod de Chocobo has a 1960's style that almost make you see hippies dancing to it.
Addictiveness: 10/10
Once you learn to love Final Fantasy VIII, you can never get enough of it. Triple Triad, a card game, is one of the most addictive sidequests there is. Although some of the rules (ESPECIALLY "random", where you can't choose your cards) can be frustrating, mastering the game is fairly easy. There are tons or rare cards which you can later "refine" into rare objects.
Trying to get al the GF's is also addicting. One of them, Doomtrain, will keep you busy if you don't consult FAQs, as the clues to get it are very well hidden. Others like Eden are hidden deep inside sidequests that require lots of brain to resolve.
Story: 6/10
OK, I admit that Final Fantasy VIII is not a perfect game and story is its main weakness
The game starts normally, with Squall finishing his training at the SeeD Academy of Balamb. After fighting Ifrit the Guardian Force, he embarks on a mission to deliver Dollet from the forces of the Galbadia Army. It didn't succeed well, as they were able to redeploy a gigantic telecommunication dish. Nevertheless, he succeeded in becoming a SeeD.
His first mission is to help the Timber Owls kidnap Delling, the Galbadia President. Unfortunately, they catch his double and nearly die trying to kill him. Soon afterwards, they learn the purpose of the Dollet antenna: the real President wanted to introduce a peace offer with the Owls. He nominates Edea the Sorceress for the talks, but little did he know that she had other goals in mind...
It is at that point that the story gets confusing. Sure, your goal is to kill the sorceress, but who she is and why she acts the way she does doesn't get explained until the third disk.
The same thing goes for the link between Laguna and the main party. You start getting some clues in the second disk, but the true link is only discovered in the 3rd disk. If anything, Laguna's story is rather distracting and doesn't bring much to the main story.
Depth: 8/10
Despite a confusing storyline that goes left and right, it is nevertheless very detailed, and not just because it goes over the span of four disks. Squall's story is revealed in details, and so is his relationship with other characters. Laguna's story is also well-detailed, and you learn how he ends up in the position he's in when the party finally meets him. You even get to learn Edea's story.
Difficulty: 4/10
This rating only applies to those who master the junction system. Once you do, you can make your characters immune to most elemental and status-inducing spells, along with making them invincible by boosting their stats to 255 with the proper junctions. Also,
all characters gain a level after 1000 experience points. Furthermore, if you manage to defeat Diablo, he has the ability to make you avoid random fights. Finally, if your precision is right, you can destroy any boss with a Squall at 255 strength and always on Aura (which prompts his special attack).
If not, it would at least be a 7. Drawing this magic for monsters (of draw points) is very, very time consuming. Plus, some GFs can only be obtained that way, so if you miss them, tough luck. Even when you can refine magic to higher-level magic, you'll have to draw and "run in circles" for hours before getting enough magic to be refined. The first two encounters with the Sorceress are very difficult as the AI is very  intelligent - if you cast wall, he will cast dispel.
In conclusion, Final Fantasy VIII is a must-try for any RPG geek out there. Despite a sometimes confusing story line, it has everything else to hook you up: epic music, nice graphs and addictive sidequests

Guns, Blades, Gunblades   gevudan
When I first played this game on the PlayStation 1, all those years ago, I was captivated by the realism the game gave off. Skip forward about eight years and when I gave it a replay the terrible graphics gave me a headache. But there was one thing that this game had that I've not seen in many games and that was the gun blade. Squall's signature weapon was what drew me back into the game, the ability to increase the power of your regular attacks by pressing the R1 button immersed me into the game. For me this is the reason why this game beat out both final fantasy 7 and 9. Granted, Final Fantasy 7 had the buster sword, but how weird the characters looked threw me off. Anyways, be mindful that this review might be a little biased due to my gun blade favoritism.
Graphics:9
The graphics of Final Fantasy 8 really drew me in over any other of the final fantasy series I have played(7,9,10,11, maybe 3(remake version for sure)). I mean compared to FF 7, where the characters had square blocks for arms, FF 8 looks a lot more realistic. Now it's nothing compared to today's graphics, you'll probably get a headache from playing the game if you're not used to it. However, it was good for its time. Which is why I gave it a 9.
Sound: 7
I'm not really a good judge of sound. Going to be honest here. My criteria for judging the sound basically revolves around; is the background music annoying, does the music suit the mood, are the sound effects clear and not a mess. Generally I felt that it was pretty good, but not being well versed at judging this sort of thing, I can't bring myself to give it too high a score.
Addictiveness:4
I really do like this game, however it's not addicting. The themes are interesting and the story is good, the gun blade is great. But none of those things are enough to pull you back for a replay. It's a good game to get through and beat, but the grind sucks. The game has this function where you have to gather magic, you can't just cast magic with mp. Meaning limits to how many times you can cast your favorite spell, meaning you have to grind just to be able to cast your favorite spell. Not fun at all. There is this card mini-game that is pretty good to play, but if you're looking for fun mini games, FF7, chocobo racing, or FF9's card game is better.
Story:6
I really liked the story in the beginning, two gun blade users are in a rivalry with each other and it seems that Seifer is your biggest enemy. You Squall Leonhart, or really whatever you choose to call him, I named him Bob once, yeah. You're a student in an Academy that trains professional soldiers called SEED's. And to me it was very easy to immerse myself into the story as a person seeking to become a seed, trying to pass the examinations, and yes there are exams that determine your seed rank, which determines your stipend. But this all becomes kind of irrelevant as you progress through the story. The story was pretty confusing to me, the love triangle, the plots by the witch, how the headmaster knew the witch, what exactly did Laguna(a gun wielding character you play for a bit in flashbacks) have to do with the main story, etc.
Depth: 7
There's a lot to do in the game, not anything groundbreaking but quite decent. Aside from the main story you can play this card mini game that's sort of fun to play, collecting rare monster cards and such. You can wander around the Academy, drive in a car, ride a train, and play various minigames located throughout the story. It's nothing special though, compared to FF7's chocobo raising and races or FF9's mini games.
Difficulty: 5
It's hard initially to figure out how the game works. However there are in game tutorials, which were rather annoying to me when I replayed it. The difficulty is simply put in saving(always remember to) and grinding. Which is why it's got a difficulty of 5, if you hate grinding, hate killing the same monster or having to fight the same monster to try to get that spell you've been looking for. I mean it takes hours of grinding sometimes to get 99 of a spell that you want like double. It's annoying, because you have to cast absorb or whatever you call it, every turn. But if you can get over that, the game's pretty easy.

Final Fantasy VIII or 8   deggle
okay final fantasy 8 i really loved this game so i'm putting all my memories and my loves and hates of the game enjoy.
Graphics 8 Loved the Graphics in this game because they were so upgraded from the last game in the series i was so surprised to see such a awesome looking change. the cut-scenes were really fun to watch as the characters looked exactly how normal humans would. but the world map was really grand cause every thing had a nice 3D look to it. But one thing i didn't care for on the map was the glitching that occured sometimes as half your character's body would go away as that did mark a point of the graphics they are still a great thing this game has to offer.
Addictiveness 9 this game i really enjoyed playing through and it was so fun i kept stopping midgaming because i didn't want it to end so i kept doing that until i beat the game with like 100 hours which is sad in my case for me but i was like duh i can play this again and have all the fun happen in the same cool fashion. one of the great things i really enjoyed was trying to find all of the GFs and fighting every boss. As well as getting everyone's final weapon
Depth 9 the game has lot's of things to do before ya beat it it does offer a lot to us and that's what kept me going in the game. and also with its core romance in it. and all of the fun missions it let's you do in the game
Difficulty 7 Well this game was sort of easy to begin with but it does seem like it's easy but instead this game's leveling and monster fights are all a lie because lot's of monster will destroy you in seconds. and reasons may vary cause levels don't really mean anything in this game unless you have Hp+200 or Attk+10 every level.
Sound 9 the music was a big part of this game mainly cause it did portray that moment in the game that you were playing which made it really great and made the game more bearable then it was.
Story 9 the story starts with a loner named Squall Leonheart who is dueling with his rival Seifer in Balamb Garden their school. after their fight all of the cadets in the school are called out on a mission but before that happens Squall needs to finish his exam for the mission so his teacher/friend Quistis helps him with it they need to go to this cave and get the GF (fun fact GF means Guardian Force) named Ifrit so they go into the cave get Ifrit and Squall passes the exam. so then he is paired up with Seifer and a hyper guy named Zell. when they get where they need to go Seifer disobeys the rules and ditches Squall and Zell but a messenger from another Garden Named Selphie helps them and beats the enemy there. and hope ya'll like this
Overall score time 8+9+9+9+9+7=51/6=8.7

Another great Final Fantasy RPG   rb1295
Final Fantasy VIII, one of many RPG in the Final Fantasy series. Like most of the other games in the Final Fantasy series, this game doesn't follow a previously introduced story, but rather has its own completely original story. The large range of things to do in the game, along with the large variety of ways to play, and large story, This Game can be seen as one of the better games in the Final Fantasy series.
Compared to other games that game that came out for this the PlayStation, before this one came out, the graphics were good. It is easy for one to find many unique animations that are really well done, and are fitting for what they were used for. With many different animations, going along with the many different backgrounds and characters, the game becomes more exciting and entertaining to play.
Many different sound effects and unique background music, these different sound are a major aspect in setting the mood and making the game all the more entertaining to play. By using the right sound effects at the right time, and the right background music when needed, the game easily pulls players, both new and old, into the game.
Along with all the different aspects of the game, this is also very addicting. By incorporating a unique and interesting story, with a variety of sound effects and background music, and good graphics, players can easily get addicted to this game, and enjoy themselves playing for extended amounts of time.
A long and complex story that originally covered a span of 4 PlayStation disks. Some people might think that it would just be too long, but once you start playing, the story starts to pull the player into the game, making them enjoy the many different concepts that are put into one story, but still follow the same story.
Along with the lengthy and complex story, there are also a few things that a player can do that are also enjoyable. These different things allow the player to feel like the game isn't just pushing you through the story, but lets them feel more relaxed, and enjoy playing the game at their own pace. By doing this, if the player gets stuck, bored, or just wants to do something else, there are multiple different things they can do.
Most of the controls are straightforward, but some are a little harder to get the hang of. Once a player gets the hang of the controls, there are many more things that they will be able to do. On the other hand, while the controls are rather simple, at some places in the game, it gets to be harder for the player to continue. Even if the player is having issues at one part in the game, there are also other things they can do until they are able to continue that are also entertaining.
Overall, Final Fantasy VIII is a great game that has many different aspects that only help make it better. Even though this game might not be for everyone, those who enjoy RPGs, will find this to be a great game to play. This game is a great addition to the Final Fantasy series of games.

also once you have Rankok cature island (sand) battles offer 20-60ap per fight they will run if you cant defeat them in time easy way to max-out-GF endgame stuff but Ulcma tower is last really but i rather be @ my best when i start last story.
Hunter33 06-19-16 - 02:16 AM
there are also once you have Rankok (ship) there are 2 islands that have hidden draw points (high lvl) monsters too you can draw infinate times warning thou the encounter rate is 99.5% with draw points so expect to battle alot w/o the e-none (diablo).
Hunter33 06-19-16 - 02:10 AM
the box with letter shows what spells been junctioned when theres a box with a green star you have mastered it or it has 100% effect to the element or spell, just fyi the are 2 islands that offer 5000-9999xp once you have the Rankok ^^ its a secret. ha!
Hunter33 06-19-16 - 02:05 AM
yeah the story is MEH, issues its still FF i will always be loyal to Square-Enix and the FF-Series, keep them coming its worth it. wish vizzed would add an cheat menu or gameshark codes to the VGR its help the grind & help us that beat FF8 w/o it^^
Hunter33 06-19-16 - 02:00 AM
there are places start of game and though out certin places offer high ap & as story progress instead of running off to cont story exp in the area items/AP i own the bradygames book for FF8 ^^ helpful.
Hunter33 06-19-16 - 01:56 AM
its not like a pc/ps3 so n game they cant fix it via updates lol still i really like the game besides its flaws draw system is rough takes a long time yes if your lvl.20 (main char) your mnsters will be that lvl so no real grinding only for the spells. ^^
Mynamescox44 04-26-16 - 11:57 PM
Despite the Junction system, I love this game so much. It's the Final Fantasy that brought me into the franchise.
Hunter33 03-01-16 - 12:34 AM

Some say that the psx games take too long to load, and thats true but remember ,once loaded ,its just a one time thing. The next time you play the same game again ,it'll load really quicker.
Chesuf 12-09-14 - 02:23 PM
I wish people would learn that you have to get the PSX Item from the item store for 25,000 vizzed before you can play PSX games.
