Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth Review by: sonicthehedgeho.. - 10/10

"The events and life of the prosecutor in Red"
The courtroom, a solid place of battle between both the defense and prosecution...when many people see this event evidently they look at the defense in a good way and down on the so called demon prosecutors. However each story has it's own tale and sometimes they become twisted into nothing but cowardly lies, as we never do know the true struggle of being on the other side of the bench. We've learned certain events of this mysterious man known to us as Miles Edgeworth, but there's still more to learn especially with the pains and regrets that may come with choosing the same profession. It's time for us to return to our office and find the truth and bring cold hard justice to this worlds eyes with nothing less but the sheer truth and not lies brought down by the corruption of the legal world! *Hears Gun load* As you can obviously see what I mean by these actions, but there's one thing this enemy and you viewers must know...which is the fact that I won't allow murder nor deceit to be found in my review. *Door Shuts*

Graphics: 9 out of 10

Now while the graphics aren't the best you could ever see on this system they certainly have made high quality improvements over the past 4 games to be released on this handheld, for example the backgrounds look more detailed with better resolutions in my eyes at least. As the prosecutor to this review I'll be showing pieces of evidence or in better terms a few places that support my words, for example if you look at the courtroom in Case 4 you can see that the bench doesn't look as pixelated as it did before alongside the fact that you can easily see almost all the areas in the courtroom (defense, prosecution, judges, viewing gallery). For another good place let's talk about the Amusement Park area from the 3rd Case wherein you can tell how nicely they did with each separate theme ranging form the dust and older style buildings Wild West to a Erie and dark Haunted House theme with plenty of mysteries hidden in each of them. Moving on let's talk about the characters themselves now, which this may be strange for some fans of the series since you never really see Edgeworth or Gumshoe face first like you would in the Phoenix Wright & Apollo Justice Games but instead they're in a side by side perspective where you either see them at a right angle or left angle depending on which side of the screen they're on.

Many people would think this makes it looks bad but actually you get a better detail of the characters this way and at the time this was the best graphically wise in the series for about 2 years, also another perspective you'll see in this game is a sort of 3rd person view but you're moving around a sort of 2-D plane. It's really hard to explain in writing but if you see snapshots of the game you'll understand what I mean, anyway this is stretching out way too long so I'll end it off here with my score being a 9 out of 10.

Sound: 10 out of 10

Just like Sonic, Zelda, or Kirby the music in this series is pitch perfect and even sometimes goes above and beyond our expectations especially when this game came out to store shelves in 2009 as unlike the other 4 games in the series the music tone in this game isn't as well gamish sounding (although it does still have a few beats like that inside) it's mostly comprised like what you would hear in an orchestral CD making it sound just pure success at some points in the game whether it be proving a contradiction, solving a puzzle or gaining new information from your thoughts, to even just talking to a certain character for testimony for a particular reason. If you don't trust my words then you can look at this evidence that can be quite decisive when taking a closer inspection on it, so to add to this I shall present 3 solid facts to prove my case to be true.

First off we have the logic theme found within the game in which you'll have a nice somber piano melody playing in the background while you continue to put piece by piece each fact into the right place. Secondly we have the theme used in the 4th case of this game named "Guardians of the Law" which is basically used as the Courtroom/Courthouse theme in the game as this is the only case in the game to feature yourself in a courtroom as every other case has you following a different location each time, anyway this is probably my favorite court theme out of all the games (even Dual Destines and PW VS PL) since it has such a mysterious but yet gratifying tone to it as well knowing that this is where the fruit if truth comes into fruition. Lastly the final them I'd wish to talk about is the Yatagarsu theme introduced believe it or not inside the very first case of the game when you find a strange black card with raven wings imprinted on it, this theme plays whenever a certain figured is talked about during the games story (this figure of course being the Yatagarsu) and it has again a very chilling and surprising theme as well as this is played mostly when a huge secret is revealed. The sound effects themselves haven't changed all that much since the original trilogy on the DS so not much can be said here unless you count the new characters voices and speech's "Not so fast!" and "Eureka!" so sadly I can't say much here so I'll leave my score of a perfect 10 out of 10 for it's excellent job in the sound department.

Addictiveness: 8 out of 10

This point is either where this game makes it for you or breaks it for you as like I've stated several times both in the sound and graphics part of this review, this isn't the typical courtroom/lounge and adventure type Ace Attorney game as this game takes a different perspective by having you in a different view of the character walking around through various environments and finding evidence for a crime that has been or will soon be committed while using a new addition to this series called Logic (no, not where you yourself have to think about what do to :/ ) where your character Edgeworth will recall all of the evidence/clues he has discovered and put two pieces together in order to create one new vital piece of information so it can rid away any contradictions that may be found during a crime scene investigation. Also as stated above you only get to play in a courtroom setting once the entire game however the way you play this stage is about 90% exactly the same as the rest of the game so don't get your hopes up too high thinking you'll go back into the normal format of the PW/AJ (Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice)
games.

Does all of this really make the game bad though? No not in my eyes it doesn't as it gives a refreshing and new experiences to an already great series, something I wish I could see in more games today but that's besides the point...I greatly admire this games charm where you can actually physically move around a certain room instead of just moving a cursor somewhere and clicking the object as it gives more of a realistic feel of searching for something important plus for the most part you still do get to question people AS IF you were inside the courtroom although; this does get more tough since you don't have as much authority outside that place of law. In all honesty the point of view that this game takes place in is actually one of my favorites in the series do to the facts stated above so in a evidential nutshell I'd say if you enjoy new features and a different game setting to the series then you'll greatly enjoy this game on the other side of the bench though you may dislike this game if you only enjoy the courtroom type battle theme that the series started off with. Finally one main reason why I enjoy this game so much is that there are 0 cases that I don't enjoy playing unlike the PW and AJ games where there was always 1 distinct case which I didn't have as much fun playing compared to other cases throughout the game so this is another reason why I find the game addictive. All of this just being personal opinion taking into account other games on this system and the games vast difference in gameplay I'd say Ace Attorney Investigations earns an 8 out of 10 for this section.

Story: 10+ out of 10

We've all seen the side of the defense attorney by now, trying to prove our client innocent by believing in the true innocence to the very end not letting any prosecutor try and stop up with any of their mean spirited words of lies. But the truth is we haven't seen the story for the other side of this chess piece either, we've never seen the true pain and troubles that prosecutors must face in order to find their own truth behind a case and all the burdens they  must behind them as well and this fact can be most well present in our very well known man in red Miles Edgeworth. We've seen his past and the agonizing pain he's had to go through in previous cases alongside Phoenix, and we know that not every prosecutor is shown to only care about winning their case and getting a guilty verdict. It's only been a month or so since our helpful friend returned from overseas after helping Wright in a case dealing with a certain girl from demon possession and Miles is ready to get some relaxing set in place...but; it seems fate didn't want to show him any compassion as he was thrown into a whirlwind of cases both ones that brought him deep into his past or just ones occurring simultaneously from his return. But one things for sure, he's not going to let anyone get away with murder or lose this case and he will expose the truth behind the Yatagarsu whom has been appearing after 7 years it's time to put this case *takes stance* to and end! This is certainly a very interesting story into the series and takes a dramatic turn into very dark mysteries and memories however, before I leave this off I need to explain on thing that confuses alot of people and it's when this game takes place and what order the cases go in.

Even though this is the 5th game released in the series it's actually the 4th game in the timeline taking place around a month after the final case in Trials and Tribulations and proof of this can be seen as this games date was set in March 12 2019 while Apollo Justice on the case begin in the year 2026 quite a leap in years if I may say so myself. Another piece of definitive evidence to this is the fact that Wright make a cameo in both Miles Edgeworth Games you'll see him in case 3 of the first game on a boat with Maya and Pearl as you will see he's still wearing his attorney's outfit and in Gyakuten Kenji 2 on Case 5 you can see Wright and Maya (presumably in Mia's Body) looking up at the Wright and Co. Law office again he still adorns his attorney clothes and the fact that this game starts off only 10 days after the final case (March 25th 2019) from the first game. Also the cases in this game go in the order 4, 2, 3, 1, and then finally 5 as you'll find out why later in the game from paying attention to this very interesting story! So all in all I think the story earns a perfect and are 10+ out of 10!

Depth: 9 out of 10

If I had to compare how long this game is to the others it'd probably be Trials and Tribulations since it has just about the same amount of features compared side by side  (T&T = Psych/Psycho-Locks & confrontations, AAIME = Logic, and confrontations) another similarity is the amount of case as each both have 5 individual cases as well so if you can expect this game to either be the same length as Trials and Tribulations or a little bit longer due to the Logic feature added into this game which may cause you some issues if you're not great at piecing various evidence together. Does this game have alot to offer though I'd say yes as it offers some backstory of Miles after he grew up and became a prosecutor under Manfred Von Karma and a brand new bunch of characters like Shi-Long Lang a member of a certain Police Force he's traveled across the world from his native country of Zheng Fa and for reasons you'll find out later he bears a personal grudge against...Edgeworth? As for returning characters you have of course the same old Gumshoe the instant noodle freak and clumsy detective for Miles Edgeworth, and Ema Skye from the very first Ace Attorney game and she's still the same science enthusiast and cheery girl from before only a little more grown up (she also has a DSi :o). So if you're looking for a good ace attorney game and want a nice change of pace then pick up your badge and leave the prosecution office since this has alot to offer which leave me with a 9 out of 10 for score!

Difficulty: 8 out of 10

As we've seen before in this series many times over, the games difficulty is fair but can be tough at certain points if you're not that great at connecting contradictions to a persons testimony or just logically deducing important facts that your character has remembered over the case. Because of this the game really doesn't have that much of a difficulty setting but it is safe to say that their is a learning curve that you'll go through when playing this game and its predecessors as well. The only reason I've rated this one space higher than a 7 is because at certain points in the game you have certain facts in the logic space that it may be hard on which 2 pieces you think you may have to connect and each time you mess up it gives you a penalty (all be it a tiny one) it could still hurt you later on if you have troubles during evidence presentation or questioning testimonies wherein the penalty is either average or high depending on the individual for example a person of lower stature AKA Larry Butts won't cause as much damage as let's say Franziska von Karma or the Judge, even the situation your in at the moment such as not having much time left before the suspect is allowed to leave can also raise this scale. Other than that there isn't much else to talk about with the games difficulty so time to end this off with my score which is an 8 out of 10.

You've now been given an inside look on what it feels like to be in the life of a prosecutors shoes, hopefully this will show you that not everything is peachy on either side. We've now seen the career and this life through Miles Edgeworth's eyes and it's up to us to bring forth the justice the is just waiting to be released behind those many walls of lies and deceit of murderers that lurk around every corner in this age. Even though we are taught that it's our profound duty to find all defendants guilty by any means, I no longer follow that teaching and I don't believe that's all that we prosecutors are but instead we continue to find only the sheer truth by any means possible. That's why I continue to stand in this court of law and only though I've been away from this court of vizzed I can already feel the fight raging from within me, it's time for the truth to be known!
