Hello all. I've just started college and am halfway through the second week of the semester, so I thought I'd ask a question that I've been wondering since, well, the first day of school.

Did (or do) you have time to play video games in college?

I brought my 3DS and have Steam on my laptop, but I've only touched them once so far. It's so early in the school year, but already I feel I won't have time. Which is sad, because I do miss unwinding with a little bit of RPG or Ace Attorney action.

Thoughts on video games in college? How'd you guys balance everything? (Outside of games too... I feel like I barely have time to do anything, ha ha).

My school is so weird, you'd better sit back for this:

I have my own room because of the silence that's everywhere but in the main classroom. In that room is a PC. And that PC is actually the school PC i always use there.

To be honest, my school isn't even a real school. It's more a place to see what kind of things you can handle with schoolwork. But i apparently am a huge exception. I even tried to go to normal schoolwork but the teachers denied my request. xD

Although i'm kinda afraid of fact i'm not able to go to the PC the entire school day (3 hours in my school, but 6 in probably all other Dutch schools) in the future.

I've had plenty of time. It's college, not high school or middle school. Honestly, depending on how many classes you take, you will probably be doing less work than in High School. Remember how you had to take a bunch of classes on one day, and do the same schedule 5 days a week? That's gone.

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like you're already taking waaaay too many classes. I'm full time and I only have class 3 days a week.

As for the games, I've never played handheld games in the school, I usually reserve those for the trains, but I easily do a few hours a week in school playing various Steam games.

I'm taking one class right now. It's Monday/Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:45 with lab before and after. I have plenty of time to play games except...I tend to get pulled in and away from my studies. This was a problem at the start of the semester. Now I'm ahead and doing well. But there can be a problem having too much time...and so many good games.

zanderlex: I may be taking too many classes, true... unfortunately, it's something I tend to do. I'm kind of jealous of you being full time and having classes three days a week; I have classes every day of the week, and only 15.5 credits.

supernerd117 : Your current situation sounds idyllic.

Dragonlord Stephi : Trust me, it's not, largely due to my own faults. Having too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, if handled poorly. That's what I tend to do. But hey! I'm learning.

Sometimes I did when I was in school. Though due to my major I had to spend a lot of time studying, and working on projects. When I was not studying I was running my weather site at the same time. During my free time I liked to watch baseball and football.

Now when I did not have a lot to do. I did play video games some mostly the classics. My Senior year I got to play video games more due to not having a heavy load and only taking 3 classes.

Well you should have time once you get used to things. But do keep in mind that the school work should come first. I would suggest time on single player games. As things like MMO's and FPS's tend to take a lot more time with guilds and socializing then you may have time for.

But I graduated in 2010, so not sure if anythings changed in seven years.

For me it just really depends on the work load. It also doesn't help, that I have to work too. Sometimes, I have to go a few weeks without gaming, and it kills me. I have so many games I have to catch up on, and I'm finding new ones all the time, so the to play list keeps on growing, and I'm trying to catch up on books and T.V. Shows. I have a little bit of time this week, so I'm hoping to make some progress in a few games.

I'd say I have a fair amount of time to play on my 3ds in college. I am going to a community college right now, so there really isn't much to do to pass the time outside of throwing a frisbee and playing foosball in the lounge. On days when I'm really busy, I use the time wisely to get caught up/ahead, but when I have some time to spare, I use the 1.5 hour gap in between my last class to play pokemon, fire emblem, zelda, or whatever I feel like playing on my 3ds.

When I go to a 4-year university, I plan on bringing my 3ds, even though I'm sure the atmosphere will be much more lively and have far more to offer than this current atmosphere does.

Currently in college, and with my kind of schedule with a mix of online and physical classes, I believe there's enough time to relax and play when I finish my work for the week.

I guess the way I have my time is to "schedule" when I play with my PS4 or whatever I'm in the mood for. Like the weekend is more than plenty of time to relax and get your mind off of the stress of my classes.

Basically, as long as you just give yourself 'goals' to get done every day and keep on top of it? You should have plenty of time to unwind. I don't play much during the week but that's because I rarely feel the need to. Here, Saturday is when my university holds a small Smash Bros. club that goes on all evening, so it's kind of my day off. Otherwise just schedule yourself properly and hopefully you should have time
