This marks the start of my amazing top 10 series called furretmojo.com

Note- This is more of a venting thread than anything lol, don't hate me or others for having a different opinion. not meant to be taken too seriously

Okay so I'm replaying through Moon and I've come to realize that there are some things that are making it near impossible for me to enjoy the game. I didn't notice them too much during my first time playing through the game because I was more focused on the region, but I just can't be bothered right now.

Here is a list of the 10 things I hate the most in pokemon  (pretty much all Sun/Moon stuff is at the top due to recency-bias):

1. LILLIE  (SUN/MOON). She is worthless, trash, annoying, she's in every damn cutscene in the game, she won't shut her mouth about Nebby (who we'll get to later lol), she has the single most cringy moment in pokemon when she "enters her Z-powered form", and she somehow thinks telling Nebby to get in the bag is more important than preventing the bad guys from releasing ultra beasts and whatnot. If it weren't for Lillie, Sun/Moon would be 10 times more enjoyable.

2. ROTOM DEX (SUN/MOON). Okay this came very close to the #1 spot. I hate this feature and I think it's the absolute worst touch screen feature in the entire series. It just won't shut up. Every time I talk with someone, it starts talking to me in the slowest text speed imaginable and I can't skip it. If you try to skip it by opening the rotom dex menu, it will basically give you the finger and completely restart the conversation. It also blinks every 7 seconds or so, and it is so annoying and distracting. I honestly didn't even notice the blinking until midway through the game but after I did, I can't unsee it. I also don't like how it basically points out where you have to go. The sense of adventuring is completely gone thanks to the big fat red flag on the map. And every time I go somewhere else in the 3D region, it tells me to stop what I'm doing and to go to where the flag is at. And this all wouldn't be so bad if you could just turn it off. But you can't, so I now cover up the touch screen whenever I play the game.

3. GRENINJA (X/Y). This piece of trash needs to rot in hell. I guess this is kind of me being a hipster but I started to despise Greninja after the excessive love and fanbase it got immediately after its release. Hell this ugly frog makes Charizard look underrated. It even got the #1 most popular pokemon in Japan award, which is complete BS and because of that the pokemon company has been milking it ever since (greninja in smash, ash-greninja (aka the reason why XY series was bad lol), etc.). Not to mention how stupidly overpowered it is due to its hidden ability.

4. RIVALS (anything post Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, sans B2W2). Gary was amazing. Silver was amazing. May/Brendan were ehhhhhhhhh. Barry was even worse. And it only went downhill from there. The rivals got laughably weak, way too positive and happy-go-lucky, and, worst of all, they keep. interrupting. you. Every 9 steps you take, one of your dumbass rivals will stop you to show you some irrelevant item like the adventure rules, or to visit some irrelevant place like that haunted house. What happened to the cocky and mean rivals who were challenging in battle and didn't care about you. Shoutout to Hugh from B2W2 for actually being decent. His Purrloin obsession was kind of irritating but other than that he was alright. Shoutout to Hau for taking the #1 spot for dumbest rival away from Tierno. Heck the guy picked the starter that is weak against yours. That should tell you enough info.

5. FAILING TO RUN FROM A WILD POKEMON (all games). Sometimes when I forget to use a repel, I run into a wild encounter. Fair enough. The wild encounter is low leveled and won't give me any good experience points, so I run away. Sounds normal right? But why is it that whenever I try and run from something, I get the "couldn't escape" message. This actually drives me nuts. I don't want anything to do with the level 4 bidoof, yet somehow I am unable to escape from it. This not being able to escape crap can last for 10 turns in a row. I don't care that is has to do with your speed stats, just let me freaking leave. Even worse when you try to run and the stupid weedle poisons you or the gastly curses you so you lose a ton of health.

#6 ACCURACY HAX (all games). Let me list some of my most despised moves in the game. Sand attack, Double Team, Minimize, Smokescreen, Mud Slap. Notice a trend? I despise the use of accuracy lowering or evasion boosting attacks. Nothing frustrates me more temporarily than continuously missing my moves and wasting my time. Also can I point out that the opponent is always cheating. 1 Double Team = +6 evasion when used
by the opponent, and 6 sand attacks = +6 accuracy when used on the opponent. I don't care what anyone says, they're cheating. Looking at you, Glacia's sheer cold Walrein >>

#7 GETTING CRITTED (all games). Yet another example of the opponent cheating. Say you have 100 HP. The opponent damages you for 35%. You're now on 65/100. Meanwhile you get the opponent down to 4/100. Easy enough right? One more Surf and they're dea- "A CRITICAL HIT LOL U SUCK" => Squirtle fainted.
Yeah that summed that up pretty well. There is no way it's just a 5% or 6% chance to get critted. I swear it happens every 3 turns. Also can I point out that the only time you ever get a critical hit is when the opponent is in the red and it doesn't matter. Or when you try to weaken something to catch it and accidentally kill it. The AI is cheating I swear.

#8 CATCHING LEGENDARIES (all games). What's the first thing they teach you as a trainer? To catch a pokemon, lower its HP to the red and put it to sleep or paralyze it. Yeah f*** that. Good luck catching this 1 HP sleeping Rayquaza with your 50 ultra balls, because you need at least 300 of them. I swear it's just ridiculous how some legendaries take like 40 minutes to catch. Especially the extra powerful ones like Mewtwo or Rayquaza. Watching them struggle to death is always so sad.

#9 EASY GYM LEADERS (BW and onwards). Gym leaders have become pushovers. What happened to the Mistys, Sabrinas and Whitneys? Like just look at some of the latest gym leaders. Black and White started promising with its first gym, and Lenora was decently challenging for a normal type gym, but anyone starting from Burgh was extremely easy. It got even worse in X and Y, where you had challenging gym leaders like Ramos and Wulfric (lol). Now it's literally just this; walk in => beat trainers => OHKO all of gym leader's pokemon => you got badge. But I've accepted the fact that pokemon will just continue getting easier and easier. For some reason the pokemon company and gamefreak think that they need to make the games easier for kids. Meanwhile most of the older pokemon fans managed the beat the earlier games (which were much harder) when they were like 6. And when they finally had a way of fixing this issue with the challenge mode in B2W2, they completely dumped that feature instead of improving it. Good job guys.

#10 ANNOYING FANBASE (internet). Can't have this list without this entry. The fanbase has gone from ehhhh to absolute s***. I honestly tried to get back into the anime during the XY series, but I was greeted with s*** like Ash-Greninja and Serena x Ash, which I later found out is called "Amourshipping". When I looked up what other people thought of the anime, all I saw was people sucking the sacks of Greninja and calling Serena (who has 0% character) the "best pokegirl". Then whenever I did come across someone sharing my opinion, they got bombarded to hell by angry shouting 11 year old fans with usernames like "Supergreninja777" and "Lucario_R34, which just further proves my point. Also massive shoutout to Pokemon Go for being a trash game that brought a whole new batch of annoying and dumb fans. And honestly anyone who says they're a pokemon fan because they play Pokemon Go can just leave.

Do you agree with my list?! What things do you hate about Pokemon?

I agree with some of this and disagree with other points.

Agree with:

1. Making Things "Kid Friendly"

Finally someone brings up the gym leaders. I've strayed away from Pokemon slowly but surely and one of the main reasons is how the games keep getting easier and the gym leaders are a prime example of that. The final gym leader of X/Y had 3 Pokemon and the Elite Four only had 4. These are touted as the ultimate challenge in the game and they don't even have a full team, what?! Even using rules to handicap yourself through nuzlockes and such which you could do to bring challenge no longer makes the game difficult. Rotom Dex is another thing I agree with it, but I think this has been a problem for a while now, the whole way gamefreak has been dumbing down the games and completely removing any sense of discovery and difficulty by handholding and this is the culmination of that change.

Rivals are another thing I agree with. Gary and Silver didn't have the most detailed arcs but the thing that made them so good was that they kept you wanting to show them up. Somehow having a rival that actually entices you to get better is a bad thing, anything that could even lead to the slightest bit of frustration because you can't just spam a move to win needs to be gotten rid off, kids need their safespace. This is the direction Gamefreak has been going with the games starting with Gen 6 and I hate it. On a sidenote I did think the rivals in BW were decent. They weren't challenging but they actually had thought out personalities and character development and were even used to tackle some serious subject matter. I prefer the old approach of the 1st and 2nd generation games but I did still appreciate that they at least tried to make them interesting.

2. The Fanbase

My god the Pokemon franchise have some of the most gullible fans. These are people who will complain about things like Call of Duty and Battlefield being the same thing every year and then play Pokemon, arguably the most prime example of a franchise that takes next to no risks with its formula, even Sun/Moon is mostly just the same thing replacing gym leaders with trial captains in stead which really is not that different. I'm not saying this applies to all fans or that you're not allowed to like Pokemon or Call of Duty, the fact that I'm ranting here is testament to how much I used to adore this franchise and I still play some fanmade stuff. Just have some self awareness please. Don't blindly eat up everything Gamefreak and Nintendo does, be able to at least recognize criticisms people have of the game.

Disagree with:

1. The Game Being Unfair

I disagree with the points you made about accuracy and critical hits. I get the feeling it only seems that way because you're more likely to remember the bad experiences than the good. As far as I'm aware the probability is the same for the player and the AI, there's no reason for why it wouldn't be. I can also see the good things about having these mechanics in the game, it makes the game less by the numbers and can add some excitement by turning around a match. I'm sure everyone who has been playing for a while has had at least one battle they thought they were going to lose but that was completely turned around by a critical hit making for some of the best memories to look back on.

I also completely disagree about legendaries. They are supposed to be hard to catch, I mean the base premise in the game "catch em all" with how ridiculously easy most Pokemon are to catch and how easy the games have been getting in general through things like the exp share applying to your whole team and making gym leaders easier having some challenge is a good thing. Especially for Pokemon which are portrayed as the most powerful in the games, basically living gods in many cases. There was nothing more satisfying for me than catching that Lugia after so many attempts. If anything I feel they've made them too easy to catch by increasing the catch rates on a lot of legendaries. starting with Gen 5. Now roaming legendaries I could see your point with because their pattern is completely random, thus it is more frustrating than difficult.

Not gonna comment on the anime because I haven't really followed it since D/P.

I didn't play anything beyond Sapphire and Colosseum, except Emerald which was one of my first tries as a newbie here, and looking at this list I'm glad I just keep up to date with the news instead of playing.

Out of the things from your list that I've experienced (#5, #6, #7 and #8), I agree with them all. Failing to run was awful as hell, not just when you're out of repels but when you're nearly out of moves, but for someone like me who has never become accustomed to items those Escape Ropes came in very handy during routes. The Accuracy Hax is also a pain, I used them on Pokemon of higher level but never for other purposes, and when used by the opponent they were the worst. And Critical Hits... What can I say that you didn't already.

While I agree with Legendaries, I must also defend GameFreak on this. After all, the most powerful and unique of Pokemon in the game must be hard to catch for their status. However, they may be excessively hard considering that Ultra Balls only double the catch rate. Not even Kyogre with the special Diving Balls, which were X3.5 the catch rate, was an easy catch, which goes on to tell how much of a pain they are. The games need a more powerful Ball, twice or thrice that of an Ultra Ball to deal with Legendaries and hard-catches, but I don't think Legendaries need a reduction on their easiness to be captured simply because they're not the only ones with such catch rates.

The fanbase is very annoying, but I still have to find a non-annoying fanbase for anything. There's always at least one sector which is against things you're totally down for and vice-versa, which is basically the source of 99% of the discussions the fanbase has (I was tempted to use the word "encounters" instead of "discussions" for being more fitting, but it would be a horrible pun). I'm tired of people calling out to others as to why this is better or worse, you cannot simply state an opinion whether you like something or not without disrespecting anybody without being bashed at? Oh, you're right, you cannot: the fanbase is too young or dumb or both to understand that question.

I can't say anything for the rest of things because I haven't experienced them, but seeing how much we've agreed so far I'm inclined to think I'd be the same just as you. I'll be sure to check more of your top 10s, and let's just hope that USUM won't make you update this list lol

You basically said "anything after BW and sometimes including BW sucks"

And you'd be right. The mechanics in those games are all incredibly annoying, because it's super slow and has terrible characters. Not to mention you can basically 1-shot everything with a starter and beat the game no problem. It doesn't actually make you want to catch them all, now does it?

The difference between WatchMojo and FurretMojo is WatchMojo only makes their top 10s for quantity, but FurretMojo made his top 10 with quality.

Also, being someone who doesn't play Pokemon, this isn't the list to go-to if people continue to pester me to play it lmao.

I agree with you on all but two points.

You dared blaspheme the sacred Rotomdex and Lillie.

We must fight now.

But besides that, you pretty much nailed my complaints too.

Zlinqx: Yeah I'm aware that the chances are the same, it just feels that way to me. I guess it's something I say to make me feel better about getting annoyed at a video game due to something that's out of my control It's not something that makes me want to rip my hairs out.

EX Palen : I get that the legends must be hard to catch but I don't like how
I'm not doing anything wrong. It's 100% luck and I have no control over it. And then the game teases you by making it shake 3 times before the capture fails. At the end of the day it's not something I despise because most legends are optional and I can try to catch them whenever I'm prepared for it, and the reward is worth it. I'm just not a fan of sitting there for 40 minutes spamming the A button or trying all the different cheat codes like mashing B or shaking your DS when you throw the pokeball.

yoshirulez! : Yeah that's basically what I've concluded. I think X and Y are the worst games of the series, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were way overhyped and just felt empty to me, and Sun/Moon went down a ton for me on a replay. Probably because half the fun of Sun/Moon was exploring the first real 3D region.

xxAriaxx : <3 I try. Keep in mind that pretty much everything on this list comes from the last couple generations. I would never recommend you to start playing these games, but if you ever somehow feel like trying the games out, please play one of the classics. Fire Red/ Leaf Green is probably the best way to start because the graphics are acceptable and you still play through the original region. The games can be fun if you just take your time and enjoy them at your own pace. Never let other people overhype them for you or push you into playing them because that will completely ruin the experience.

A user of this : Fight me bby.

I can accept that someone else might like Lillie (I'll never change my opinion on her though ) but can you explain to me why you think the Rotomdex is great? For the first time in pokemon I can actually only see the negatives here.

I honestly only agree with half of the things on your list

The ones I agree with:

#9 EASY GYM LEADERS (BW onwards) - That would actually be my clear #1 choice. After the 4th gen, there's only been one truly difficult battle in the series, and it wasn't even a gym battle (Ghetsis BW). Gamefreak needs to implement a hard mode in future games that can be accessed from the beginning, unlike Black and White 2 where you needed to transfer a key just to gain access to hard mode...

#4 Rivals - Besides Hugh and Gladion, I completely agree with you regarding the rivals after gen 3.

#10 The Fanbase - I think the same could be said for a lot of video game fanbases out there (Sonic, Undertale, FNAF, etc.)

#1 Lillie - That whole Z-Power cutscene was so cringy, but I still prefer her over Hau. Literally anyone's better than him.

#3 Greninja - While Greninja was one probably my favorite Pokemon from gen 6 (I felt that gen 6's lineup was pretty lame), The crazy amount of popularity it has gained still baffles me to this day. If I made a list on this it would either be #10 or a dishonorable mention.

Now for the ones I disagree with

# 5 Failing to run away from a wild Pokemon - I haven't had issues with running away from wild Pokemon like you have. Pokemon that are higher leveled and have a high speed stat don't fail to run away.

# 2 Rotom Dex - While I think there should be an option to turn off the Rotom Dex, I personally would still keep it on if Game Freak decided to continue using it in future games. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. The only change I'd make though is that Rotom should automatically have it's Pokedex entry added if they bring it back.

#8 Legendaries - Honestly, I'd argue that legendaries are a lot easier to catch now than back in gen 4 and before. Even in Omega Ruby, I had no problems catching Groudon, Rayquaza, or any other legendary not named Deoxys (I ended up using my master ball on it).

#6 accuracy hax - I second what Zlinqx said. Also there are moves with perfect accuracy for a reason.

#7 - getting critted - again, I second what Zlinqx said, but I'd like to add that crits haven't been unfair since gen 1 when you could just spam slash with a high speed Pokemon.

I agree with a few points on your list:

1. Lillie

I found her to be quite annoying in my first playthrough of the game, everything scares her and all she ever seems to care about is Nebby. Forget the fact that their are Ultra Beasts coming through a hole in the sky, as long as Nebby is zipped up in her pokeball themed golf club bag, that's all that matters.

4. Rivals

Yeah, I have to admit it the rivals are getting weaker and more obnoxious with each generation. I hardly even remember the rivals in X/Y (perhaps, that's because they're incredibly bland and unmemorable?), but I can't deny that Hau is the most annoying rival in any pokemon game. In almost every cut-scene he's always jumping up and down over silly stuff like malasada or the pokefinder...just chill out dude...I think he chooses the starter that's weak to yours not because he's stupid (it's still a strong possibility), but because of how much easier the games are becoming. Soon enough, you'll be able to trade pokemiles for exp...it's ridiculous.

Then there's also the fact that the games are becoming too easy, It's worth mentioning that the battle menu now tells you which moves are super effective or not very effective against the pokemon you are battling. I think this is a bit much, it would be different if you could turn this feature on or off depending on how seasoned a player you are, but there's no way to do that, so we're stuck with it. As bad as it is in Sun and Moon, I think it was even worse in X/Y, it was way too easy to level up your pokemon an absolutely steamroll all of the gym leaders. I remember having a team of level 80+ pokemon before challenging the Elite Four--I didn't even break a sweat. And as you said, I think it will only continue to get easier with each new game.

As for catching legendaries, it's never been much of an issue for me with the exception of trying to catch Kyogre in Alpha Sapphire. I remember having to soft reset my game three times either because I ran out of ultra/net/dive balls, or because Kyogre decided to struggle kill itself.
