Mega Man and Sonic are two video game icons. Both are often ranked in the top 5 of most popular video game franchises. So what would happen if Mega Man invaded Sonic the Hedgehog territory. Well this game tries to do that. This is a hack of Mega Man except it takes place in the Sonic Hedgehog's world.

story: 8

The Story is different than most Mega Man games. The story is not revealed until the middle to late part in the game. Most Mega Man games the story is known at the beginning of the game. Most Sonic games I have played are the same way. Basically, Dr. Wily has teamed with Dr Robotnik (also known as Dr. Eggman) and kidnapped Sonic and Tails. The two scientists notify Mega Man. The goal is to lure Mega Man into a trap and take him out then take out Sonic and Tails. To make matters worse Dr. Wily has created doc-robots and a virus to stop Mega Man in his tracks. Mega Man must stop the virus, stop Wily and get Sonic and Tails back.

Okay, now this is an interesting story and it is a unique perspective. I love having Mega Man and Sonic combine. It sounds like the maker or makers of this game was aiming at that. I mainly like the plot but I feel like something is missing here. Like why did Robotnik contact Wily why is he teaming up with him? Also having the plot revealed later in the game just seems odd. Maybe it is because I am old school and like the story at the start of the game. Overall though I think it was a very good attempt so I will give it an 8 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls: 8

I really like how the stage layouts have been changed. A lot of the stage layouts resemble Mega Man 2 and 3 stages. Also some sonic stages are also included. I really like the mixture that was very creative. I also like the stage colors seem to go very well. I can tell it took time and development to make the graphics. There were not that many lags in the game. Overall the graphics are very neatly done

Now the controls are not as smooth as most Mega Man games are infamous for. They are also not as smooth as some sonic games I have played. Sometimes it seems like the controls are a little sluggish at times. Other times it feels like they change speeds. It is not a huge problem but they could have been better.

I like the backgrounds, layouts and colors that certainly bumps up the rating. The controls bring it down and that is what keeps it from getting a 9 or 10. Still, I give it an 8 out of 10.

Sound: 9

The game really shines in the sound department. A lot of the tracks are from Mega Man 2 and 3. But what was interesting was they were a few tunes I recognized from the sonic games. I liked how a variety and mixture was good of the two iconic franchises. I was also glad that they did not really change the themes to Sonic and Mega Man games too much. I also like the sounds the enemies make. The sound in this game is nicely done so I give it a 9 out of 10.

Replay Value: 8

When I first saw this game. I though well this game looks like it could be interesting combining Mega Man and Sonic. So I figured I would give this game a try. Lets just say I'm glad I did as the game is a good game. It has a lot going for it. It offers something new to both Sonic and Mega Man fans. If you like both characters than this is a bonus game for you. I really had fun playing this game. This is a game that you will play again and again. I really enjoyed playing it. I give it an 8 out of 10.

Depth: 9

Like Most Mega Man and Sonic games Hedgehog Trap has a lot of depth to it. They are a lot of secrets in each stage. Also a lot of the stages have branching paths so explore them all if you can. Also they are secret items to unlock in the game as well. A lot of the stages are decent in length. Also I should when you think you have gotten through all the stages new stages show up. So yeah, this is a game that you are not going to be done with in a few minutes. This game took a while. I really like games that have a lot of depth. I also like how this hack kept the tradition of Mega Man and Sonic Games. Both franchises are known for their depth. In addition, both franchises are known for secret areas, secret items, power ups, and branching paths. I give the depth a 9 out of 10.

Difficulty: 6

The game says this is an easier version of the game. I will have to see if their is another version of Hedgehog trap. This was the first hack that showed up I hadn't really taken time to play until today. Still, for this to be an easy game it is certainly not a cake walk and it is not too difficult either.

I actually died a few times playing this game despite it saying its an easier version. They are quite a few pits and death spikes in this game. So changes are you will land in a pit or on spikes. The enemy placement is not too bad compared to other Sonic as well as Mega Man games. The main difficulty is the bosses. Some of the Robot Masters move very fast and have very fast attacks. This can make dodging them difficult. The times I died in the game were not so much in the level it was mainly the bosses that got me. A few can also easily dodge you attacks. I like bosses like that because it tests your skill, creativity, and reflexes.

Now, while the bosses may be difficult the game does a lot to help you out too. Lives are plentiful in this game. Do not worry about dying to much in this game because chances are you can pick up an extra life. They are scattered in the stages and enemies tend to drop them a lot. Also just about every stage has an energy tank in it. So if a boss is giving you trouble pick up an e-tank not hard to find. Also some of the weapons do a lot of damage even to bosses. So use your special weapons to make it easier.

I give the difficulty a 6 out of 10. The pits, spikes and bosses bump up the difficulty somewhat despite this being an easy game. On the other hand the game helps you out too by giving you power ups, energy tanks, and extra lives. In general despite the game claiming its easy it is not very easy it still has its challenges. However, its not one of those games that are going to stress you out in terms of difficulty. I think the difficulty is a bit over the middle of the road but not unbearable like some of the Sonic and Mega Man games are. Thus, I think a 6 out of 10 sounds about right.

Overall: 8.4

I like both video game franchises and icons. I can remember growing up in the 80's and early 90's when both characters came out. In fact I played Sonic and Mega Man games quite a bit as well as Mario Games. But this game is not about Mario its about Sonic and Mega Man. Since I grew up playing both Mega Man and Sonic games. I was highly interested when I came across this hack. I thought this could be good combining the two franchises or it could be bad. Thankfully, after playing this game a lot today. I'm glad I did the game has a lot going on for it.

I will start with the positives. The game was a fun game to play and one I will play again. I really liked how they made the stages to resemble Mega Man and Sonic that was creativity and neatly done. Some of the stages were also a mix of both games again nicely done. That took time to make I am sure of it. It really shows that the maker or makers were really trying to created a balanced blend of both worlds. I also like the stage layouts they seem to fit the stages very well. I also liked for the soundtrack the makers used both Mega Man and Sonic games. If your going to combine the two games it makes sense to use soundtracks from both games. This is what Hedgehog trap does. Moreover, the game keeps a lot of the tradition of Mega Man and sonic games in terms of depth.

Now for the negatives. These negatives are minor and should not stop anyone from trying this game. In fact some gamers will not even be bothered by the negatives. I think the story had a good plot to it and it was a great attempt to bring the two worlds together. However, as I stated it felt like something was just missing. Like why did Dr. Robotnik team with Dr. Wily did they plan it they are endless possibilities here. A starter could have been revealing Wily and Robotnik were friends and both came up with a plan to deal with the heroes. Its not a big problem and yes I know it is a video game. It just seems like something is missing here. Also having the plot revealed later in the game just seems odd to me. I am an old school gamer so I like the plots to be revealed at the start. Now if there is going to be a plot twist like some of the Mega Man games have that is okay too. Maybe the makers were trying to keep some suspense. Also the controls could have been better. They are not terrible and mostly good. It is just as I explained they can be sluggish or change speeds at times. So that was a little bit of a negative.

Overall, I give the game a solid 8.4 rating. The game despite its few negatives is a fun game and worth playing. If you like both characters you will enjoy this game. This game offers something different for both Sonic and Mega Man fans. Also this game is fun for the entire family. This is a good game to introduce somebody to Mega Man or even Sonic too. While one might die a few times in this game. It is certainly not going to make you stressed out or anything. So I highly recommend this game it is a good one to play.

Blessings in Christ and happy gaming. I hope you have fun playing this game as I did and hope you enjoy it as well.
