and thus ends hockey season, and to be honest, I would have cheered for the Habs had they not taken the Jets out. Sorry, but I'll cheer for any Canadian team in the playoffs as long as they aren't the ones that take out the Jets, the only way that the Canadian teams can get around Bettman's law is if there's a two Canadian team finals, and the last time that happened I wasn't even born yet

Flower got traded from Vegas today. I must say this is the saddest I've felt about any player leaving a team I like. He kind of was the team, the best player in net last year and the team leader for sure. He was the face of the franchise. And they traded him for nothing. Will he probably retire? I guess. But I don't think he would've if VGK had kept him. I don't like the moves vegas has been making recently, starting with trading Cody Glass, but if it wins us a cup then I'll be ok. I doubt Lehner is good enough to replace what MAF could do in net and the way he would lead the team every single game. I won't forget the impact he has made for Vegas, and he'll always be my favorite Golden Knight.

I'm happy that we're keeping Stast for a year (and for him talking Nate Schmidt into taking Winnipeg off his no trade list, I wonder if he ever wants to be a GM when he's done playing hockey) but I hate that we lost Brossy, Poolman and Perreault (losing him REALLY hurt, though granted I kind of knew we were going to lose him this year) basically this means several minors will get promoted. I wish we got Corey Perry though (why? because he swept the Jets in the playoffs while playing for two different teams, seeing him in a Jets jersey would have been the best revenge ever) I'm not that crazy about Comrie being a possible backup for the Jets, unless he's had a Hellebuyck-like turn around (I wasn't crazy about Helle, I thought he was mediocre but then in the 17/18 season he really turned things around)

god I hope no games get cancelled tomorrow, my Jets haven't played since the 19th (and we've had the least amount of players in COVID protocol, just 4 so far Wheels(bad enough that he's had a goal drought but when he finally did score he kind of bent out his knee), Scheif, Copp and Vessa)

Since my last post Comrie has started a handful of times (recently mostly because Helle was out with a non-covid related illness but it was bad enough that he couldn't be around his newborn son, and I gotta hand it to Comrie, he's improved a bit but there's still room for more

man I wish this thread wasn't so dead

To be fair there isn't a LOT to talk about.

I'm cheering for the Flames and they've been playing some of the best hockey I've seen the team play. The Toffoli trade was also pretty good for the team. It's given 3 solid lines for the team to work with now.

I am curious to see what happens at the trade deadline which I think isn't for another month. There is a lot still left that could happen and with Covid restrictions lifting all over the place that might not be a big consideration anymore.

I've been super disappointed in what the Islanders have been doing this season. They started so well and then they just fell apart after like two weeks. I went to one of their first games at their new arena on Nov 21, which was the day after the arena opened and while it was a great experience, they sucked.

I think they went on to lose like 8 games in a row and while they've managed to get back on track, they're still nowhere close to where they could have been and it's very disappointing.

I need to put my picks in here before games actually start.

WSH vs FLA - Florida has got this one. Beast of a team.

Florida in 5.

BOS vs CAR - I want Carolina to win but I don't think it's going to be easy. Carolina isn't as good right now compared to how they started.

Carolina in 7.

TB vs TOR - As good as Toronto has been this year I can't pick them over TB.

Tampa in 6.

PIT vs NYR - Pittsburgh has the experience but I think they're done.

Rangers in 6.

NSH vs COL - Saros is out (as far as I know) so I don't see how Nashville can win.

Colorado in 5.

DAL vs CGY - Calgary has been pretty dominant this year. Dallas is good but I don't think they can beat Calgary this year.

Calgary in 6.

STL vs MIN - this is probably the most even series. With recent injuries it might mean MIN won't be as effective.

STL in 7.

LA vs EDM - LA was a surprise this year for me but it's hard to bet against the team Edmonton put together. If Smith can keep playing they way he is I don't see how they lose.

Edmonton in 6.

Did I get all of these more or less correct?

I picked Florida, Carolina, Tampa and New York in the East and they all won.

West was Colorado, St. Louis, Calgary and Edmonton.

Didn't get the games right but I got the final wins. Not bad this year.

8/8 so far.

I'll put my picks in tomorrow when I've got more time. Still buzzing about that OT win by Calgary. That was awesome.

Man who would have thought that there would be a parade of firings (Winnipeg included) and Tampa Bay would not get a threepeat...and yeah I thought for sure we would have gotten Trotz but it turned out he didn't want to coach this year(to be honest I'm more upset about Roe v Wave being overturned than I am about not getting Trotz), and now it looks like we're getting someone I hadn't heard of....again (even though I already have a nickname for Tocchet....I'd rather have Arniel though since he actually has experience coaching in Winnipeg considering that he used to be on The Jets, not to mention he got the Moose to the Calder final) I wasn't surprised that Adam's dad would get canned

and as for PLD wanting out in about two years, if the Rangers want him.....give back Copp (I'm aware that's not gonna happen but to me our good players are worth equal or better value) Wheeler's on the Trade Board, and let's face it Scheif ain't gonna stay here either, something stinks in the hanger (we dont' call it phonebooth anymore because the arena is now Canada Life Centre...yet another insurance company)

and the Jets have just named Rick Bowness as the new Head Coach (and we may be getting Scott Arniel as an assistant coach, which I consider a good thing like I already had said) I'm relieved that the saga is over, it should not have taken two months and now to wait for the Draft and Free Agent Frenzy

I was very disappointed with how the playoffs turned out. Of course I wanted the Rangers to win and they started off their series SO GOOD before falling apart and it was miserable. But my 2nd most favorite team is the Lightning so after the Rangers lost I started rooting for them and then they had to go and lose.

zanderlex : you kidding? I really wanted Bettman to lose sleep and by that I mean have a two Canadian team Stanley Cup finals, but Toronto ugh, even with Matthews on the team they can't make it past the first round, that's kind of what I hate most about playoffs, you can have the best players on a team and still crash and burn in the playoffs, and this is coming from the fingers of a fan of a team who traded Patrik Laine the same season they swept the Oilers

okay so even better news a player from the Jets 1.0 era is joining the coaching staff, it's been forever since Scott Arniel has worked for True North Sports and Entertainment (he coached the Moose for several years before Columbus came a calling...but that didn't last long he was fired before the Jets first season was even over)

Johnny Gaudreau signed in Columbus.... wtf?

Not sure what Calgary will do to recover from that. Hard to lose your top point player to free agency with next to nothing available to replace him with.

Likely Tkachuk goes during the next season. Can't see him sticking around with the way his contracts have been designed.

Might be for the best long term because I'm not sure if a $10M Gaudreau is actually going to win a championship but it would have been nice to trade him before this so we didn't get nothing out of it.

I can hope it'll turn out like Tavares where the team he goes to has no playoff success for years to come

I'm not satisfied with what I saw with Free Agency yesterday either, I'm especially disappointed that we lost Comrie, why do we keep losing players whose contracts are about to expire when they have a GOOD season? eh whatever Comrie will be back, if I had a Toonie for every time Comrie got waived and ended up back in Winnipeg, the Arizona Coyotes would be playing in Quebec City right now

and yeah for some reason the Jets haven't done much yesterday, I mean yeah we have a new backup goalie and I can't wait to see him in action but I feel like Chevy is half assing it these days

man halfway through the season (and oh btw while we are at it how come there isn't an NHL 2022/2023 season thread?) and I couldn't be happier with the way things are going for the Jets (despite having 7 injured players including an injury most painful for Wheeler), I don't know what Bowness has been doing but it's working (considering that he started the season with COVID), not name a captain, who cares, I'm liking the Jets chances right now

We've kinda just hijacked this thread for the last few years lol, it seems to do its purpose and there don't seem to be enough hockey fans left to warrant making a new thread.

I am a golden knights fan (yes ik ik) and follow them a decent amount, and I know they're doing pretty good (despite injuries, again). But wth is going on with the Bruins. How is a team that good. It's unfortunate since I greatly dislike the Bruins (bc Marchand obv), but you have to give them credit for playing great hockey.

I don't like the Bruins either

I guess is probably doesn't help that there hasn't been any serious NHL news on the same level as Tom Brady signing watch or the Damar Hamlin situation, I mean the only major NHL related news we've had the last little while was the expansions...oh and Trotz watch but we all know how that ended

The playoffs are currently in the Conference Finals part and I'm not so surprised that the Golden Knights are going to the Stanley Cup Finals this year. Though I am more surprised that the Florida Panthers of all teams are going there against them. Amazed that they defied all doubts from the playoffs and did spectacular.
