There are two systems that are commonly used to sniff out a new game industry product release before it officially occurs these days: for game systems, the patent filings are often the go to source (as you might recall we established the Switch's portability, built in screen, and Television tethering via patent), and for games themselves we turn to the tell all trophy lists. And while the latter hasn't exactly happened for Crash Team Racing, it has been noted that the trophy list for Crash 3 in the N. Sane Trilogy contains blatant references to the commercials that aired for CTR prior to it's launch back in the day.

And here are the commercials referenced in Crash 3's trophy list, namely "Buckle Up, Boys, Buckle up!", "Is There a Problem, Granny?!" and "Boo-yah, Grandma! Boo-yah!"


Commercials like this are what made me want a PlayStation so badly as a kid.

So yes, it looks as though we may have a remaster of CTR on PS4 soon to sit alongside the other Crash remasters, which by the way, are scheduled for release at the end of this month ー June 30th to be exact.

Now while this Crash Team Racing remaster isn't official, it's worth noting that Activision has promised a special Crash Bandicoot announcement at E3, and with the N. Sane Trilogy so close upon us, it certainly doesn't seem likely that it'll pertain to that. This could be anything, but a CTR remaster is certainly not out of the question. Also convenient is that the trophy lists that contain this possible hint were released only a few days before E3... Coincidence? Possibly, but we can hope it isn't. However, there is a chance that this is a mere Easter Egg, so don't take it as a given. I would say don't get your hopes up too high, but how could you not?

Please let it happen PLEASE! It has to happen it would sell well if CTR becomes remastered and be on the PS4. I'm going to keep an eye out for any news for it to happen....

"How could you not?" is exactly right. I mean they're about to release the Crash Trilogy in a few weeks here. Why wouldn't / couldn't they also release Crash Team Racing? To me, it wouldn't make any sense not to. Its almost as if its expected. If this doesn't happen, it wouldn't understand why.

As a matter of fact, they should start on the remasters of the Spyro games as well! In my childhood, Crash and Spyro went hand in hand. Its only right ... that has to happen! As soon as I think Crash, I also think Spyro.

But maybe that is just me dreaming ...

Oh yeah, please, let it happen. I'm almost falling for MK8, this would definitely get me away from the Switch and stick to Sony.

First it's going to be the main three games, then we could get this happening... If they announce a remaster of Crash Bash, I won't be able to control myself anymore.

If these rumours (and my personal desire) come true, I'm not going to regret saving up for whatever may come across lol

If they did that, I would buy that game in a heartbeat. It was easily my favorite PS1 game as a kid, and is still in my opinion one of the best games on the system.

MattyIce : If this is indeed a tease for a planned rerelease, or even a testing of the waters, it shows that they may have finally realized what they're sitting on with the Crash IP. I hope they decide to just revive the series altogether, assuming they can do it justice. It would be so awesome to have a quality 3D platformer series again. Especially one as iconic and beloved as Crash.

As for Spyro, I wouldn't mind giving that a look too. I've only really played one, but it was good. I wonder what it would feel like with modernized controls, graphics and audio?


EX Palen : Finally! Someone else who really appreciates and hopes for a Crash Bash remaster or revival! I loved that game, man. It would definitely be a welcome addition to my PS4 collection. Of course so would Crash Team Racing or Crash Nitro Kart.


gamerforlifeforever : I've only played it's sequel, but that was an amazing game. I'm a huge fan of the kart racing genre, and both of those games seemed to really capture it's essence perfectly and turn the fun dial up just a little more. I hope this becomes a reality, man.

There's no word yet on a CTR remaster - the main one was about Coco being playable, from what I remember. Then again, I would like to see CTR and CNK remastered. Especially CNK - which was Mario Kart 8 before Mario Kart 8 was a thing.

AuroVee : I'm on the opposite boat: I'd prefer CTR over CNK if we had to pick just one.

Not sure why, but I enjoyed more the tracks there than in the new game. Probably because the newer game didn't excel at originality, with all tracks sharing traits. I liked better how in CTR each track was unique.

If they remaster CTR, why not could we see some of the improvements that CNK introduced. I'm thinking more on the ! Crates, which triggered different traps and played some strategic role in the races they were available. I don't see them introducing things from Crash Tag Team Racing, though the minigames would be very welcome, specially bowling.

Yeah, I have to agree. Or, better yet, they should combine the two in a way. I mean, I know why they gave each world's tracks in CNK the same theme...
