After a roughly 3 year break (Or more) from Skyrim, I'm back playing the Steam version. When I first got the Steam version, I played for like an hour in April 2014 and gave up, since I already played a lot on console before.

Now I want to give the Steam version a full run through and want to try out mods.

If you play Skyrim, which ones are the best, coolest, and most helpful? And where do you even get them from/how do you install them?

I personally like the HD/HQ mods.
Just cuz the game is a few years old, doesn't have to look like it.

To install them, I use Nexus.

Vanelan : It took my a good 30 minutes to install NMM. So many problems, had to keep uninstalling, and ended up having to just run it as an admin.

However, now that I got that up, I can't believe how easy it is. Literally click download on a mod, and it's practically in the game already.

Can I run the normal Skyrim game or do I have to run the SKSE version all the time?

Vanelan :

Thanks!

I had no idea that actually getting the mods and downloading/installing to game was the hard part.

Afterwards I had to manually check which ones work with each other one and do a ton of testing.

At one point, I used a mod that whenever I tried to do the thing that mod does, the game crashed. Wasn't bad, but the crash caused my controller to malfunction and couldn't be read anymore. Had to restart computer, which for some reason uninstalled Skyrim completley.

But at least the controller started working.

Got back on the game and tested out different combinations of mods on/off and the two "attack" buttons and draw weapon button stopped working, but only in Skyrim. So i had to change which mods load yet again and delete a bunch of Save Files.

THEN I actually had to make a long document. Copied a bunch of save files, and had to designate each file for different mod combinations. One for regular gameplay, a few others for different "experimental/fun games" And had to list out things like whether or not I can have the controller in for each file, and which mods to avoid with each file.

Whole process took 9 hours, a bunch of reinstalls/downloads/restarts, and about 4 hours of gameplay lost due to deleting saves.

My favorite mod type is the ones that add hunger, thirst, and a need for sleep. I found one that removes the requirements with Vampirism.

Next to that, I like these two I found that I always use together. One makes it so gold has a weight. The other adds bank notes in different denominations. The result is turning the gold into notes to decrease the weight.

There's also one mod that makes anyone who isn't a guard run for shelter when a dragon attacks.

The mod was called Banks of Skyrim, though it is no longer available and I don't know where you can find it. I lost it when my old PC fried, so I can't help with that. It's a shame. I like adding realism for RP purposes so that was a nice one.

I haven't tried Skyrim on Steam, I have my doubts that my computer can handle it, but have tried my hand at modding other games. One of which was FF7, modding the advent children theme into the game. While on my search I did see a pretty cool FF7 mod for Skyrim that turns your main character into Cloud from Advent Children. If that's your cup of tea, I thought I'd mention it.
