we use a shared wifi connection where i live which means the bandwidth usage is split between me, my aunt, and my uncle depending on when they're using the internet. having twitch streaming on multiple tabs is just going to lead to trouble for me plus it will likely lead to things lagging as well.

so, is there any way i could disable the constant streaming?

Twitch has a feature for hearing the video, good for podcast if they want to use that feature. it uses little data and kinda works on mobile.

what? no, i'm asking how to stop it on this site, not how to access twitch by other means.

i don't own any mobile devices so that's of no use to me.to have multiple tabs up for this site (1 for browsing the retro games room, 1 for whichever game i'm playing, and maybe another for the forums) then that's multiple instances of twitch streaming which leads to a huge drain on my internet connection and a spike in resource usage for my laptop thus making the whole computer start lagging.

heck, on youtube, their idiotic auto quality adjust thing for videos typically thinks my connection is so slow that it tries loading videos in 144p (or was it 140p?). so my connection can't handle streaming videos much, let alone multiple instances of streaming.

having access to streaming videos and stuff like that is great but keep it optional. not autoplay across most of the website.

even on this forum thread there is a twitch video player that tries to start streaming the moment the page finishes loading. there should be a way to disable that if you don't want to stream things like that.

You can do that with AdBlock Plus (though more people use uBlock these days and I'm not sure the method of doing it with that).

So, add AdBlock Plus, click the icon in the top right of your browser window, select Block Element, then right click the embedded Twitch stream(s) to block them from loading on this site.

ok, ty for that. um...

ok, pretty simple with uBlock.

you just click on the icon at the top then the element picker mode thing (looks like the color picker tool's icon in MSPaint.) > click the element you want then click the red "Add" button on the menu that comes up.

...you wouldn't believe the amount of...stuff this plugin setup blocks on some websites. like, go to an article on a mainstream media website like say...wallstreet journal and watch Disconnects number of blocked request go past 100 fairly quickly. uBlock will block a ton of stuff too and the cookies...well, they'll just auto delete as they come up unless you whitelist the site in question. and it's not just ads that get blocked. social media related stuff, google stuff...a whole lot of different garbage.

still, thanks for letting me know i could just use the element blocker function for that.
