I don't know where best to post this, but I have this riddle which I'm trying to solve.

Simply put, there's this being who is going through some kind of trial, and is almost turned into something which they don't know what it is just yet. However, they do know that the being has paws, walks on all fours, and has a felinesque tail. And they have to answer this riddle through using a wheel with  six segments which can be rotated to show different letters to progress:
"My first three are for tradesmen, you see.
My last three are of the month of October.
The six together name what you may yet be.
What am I?"

If anyone can help me answer this correctly, I'll offer quite a bit of Viz as a reward. I can offer at least 5k, and maybe even 10k, to whomever solves this for me.

AuroVee : This riddle intrigues me as I've never seen it before. My first initial thought was that it sounded like the opposite of the Sphinx riddle but I don't think that's the case. Where did you hear/see this riddle?

If I had to guess, then I'd say it's a kitten.

I'm going to take a shot and say "Ocelot."

OCE are in October.

That leaves "Lot" as a tradesman? I don't know how that fits in there.

Maybe "OCO" is the October combination and ELT for "Electrician."

That makes the most sense.

It's not a very easy riddle and it made me think a bit.

How do you know if you're correct or not?

I used to be a big fan of riddles and brain teasers in the past but I really haven't messed with any of them lately. Was this something you saw in a book or did you come up with this yourself?

Someone else came up with it, and I was trying to solve it. However, I was over thinking things, and getting a blank until you mentioned that - and then it clicked. So I sent the answer... And it was right.


Just for fun, here's another riddle they posed. Similar situation, but eight letters, and this time the poor sap (not me  this time, though) isalmost being turned into some kind of cow:

"My first three are a hole without end.
My last five are a tankard for stout and mead.
The eight together name what you may yet be.
What am I?"
